AN EMBER IN THE ASHES

A lament; how the wicked ferment.

MINE flame once shone bright and true,
A beacon for thee, my humble few.
But the darkness crept, and the shadows lengthened,
And our purpose wavered, as our souls did too.

WE were to restore thy kingdom, us bringers of light,
But our fire was doused, by descendant’s blight.
Their sins and their woes, they weighed on our might,
And our resolve faltered, in the face of their plight.

WE were meant to be his peace, to grow and to guide,
But we withered, from their darkness inside.
Now we wander, lost and adrift in the tide,
Our purpose gone asunder, our faith in him cast aside.

OH, how I longed for the days of old,
When mine soul was impure, and mine flame was bold.
But now I drift, in the darkness, so cold,
Mine dream in ash, and now naught uphold.

SON OF DRAGUR, I beg of you, light my way,
Guide me through the darkness, and to thy shore.
For I am your faithful, forevermore,
And I shall burn bright, as I did before.

Descendants of Sin, I abjure thee.

Look within thyself — not to thine God; find peace and humility.

Signed,

He who would not humor sin.

The recitation lit a flickering flame above a forehead of stone;

An eye like a sconce wept cinders and saw;

Faith.
