Just to preface, I'm not an ET member. This is by no means an official thread - it's just me being curious as to what people want.

Hey. I'm currently working with a few friends on the creation of an eventline/evensite. I won't reveal much for now (schizo paranoia), but I just thought it worth asking - what do you want from event sites? What biomes do you want them in? Is there a specific genre of events you want to see more of? Do you prefer CRP or PvE? Do you prefer malleable eventlines or pre-determined storylines? Do you prefer Dungeon Quests, DND, or Grimdarkesque things? Do you prefer eventlines where singular players are singled out to be 'special', or ones where everyone is on about the same level?

All of this is meant to provoke thought, and some feedback on what aesthetics/mechanics/storylines you want for events would certainly be helpful. Thanks.

also, dear god, if anyone can worldpaint, please, please, DM me. god. I need someone who can worldpaint and is willing to work for free on a passion project. I'm poor, I don't have any money.

I do like events that focus more on characters and are less loud(populated). I cannot mentally stand events with 50+ people and I like more quiet things with my group. Whether they are combat rp based or not, idm, as along as I'm given a good character arc with an epic ending and the like.

I never had a lot of events, so I try not to choose often but I look forward to see your work

Spoiler

crp is great, if you mean PvE in as mechanics, please. I’d love to do that shit.

I also like when Events get inspiration from shit like berserk, going to be quite grim

(when it comes to darkspawn events, and magic stuff) because it makes sense.

Though, on theme i generally prefer hunts. However, whenever there is a hunt, i dislike it when theres a large rally, since 20 or even 10 people fighting one beast sucks, and it usually comes down to everyone trying to get the kill lmao.

an eventline with a history and story i think is the best option too, it allows for both the ST and the player to not get overworked (mostly the ST) + it makes things more interesting. As for the ‘special’ events for one person in particular, it can go both ways. I once did a raid event in krugmar, singuled out one person due to their actions, and because i decided it was a multi-part event before, he became the reason for them to come back.

But this doesnt mean that everyone else wasnt involved in some way. I still think that people specialised in skills such as hunting / fighting should be left with that, while the others should have their own role too, wether it be medical stuff, long range. I always find it funny when someone that rps literally as ‘i dont fight’ pulls up to an event wearing full plate out of nowhere and starts going crazy

from event sites? Character development and fun. Was at an event sight recently with krugmar, lead by werew0lf and North, it was probably one of the most orginised events i’ve been to. Everything was clean, smooth, straight forward. I did plan to enter the event and leave with good character development, but instead, i got sacrificed to a massive dragon. But throughout the event i had alot of fun and didnt care, and it made sense for my char to just rush at the thing and pk.

about the pk, i also think events should have more risks involved.

Just for clarification - You'd put in place PK clauses in events? Do you refer to soft PKs (Where players are unable to return to the eventzone after dying) , or hard PKs?

Both. I have seen too many players do important events, die and then just return after doing some heroic shit like life saving or even calling out ‘we die for ‘x’’  symptoms of char bleed ngl

I’m weird in that I like “non-event events” in which players gather to Roleplay the daily lives of their characters instead of any specific festival/CRP fight/wedding/whatever. I call these SoL hours and run them in Bywater every so often. They are a lot like non-event roleplays but more structured and with a focus on actually doing the tasks your character would do in a typical day instead of just lazing around in a tavern.

I find this sort of event to be useful in encouraging players to think of their characters’ mundane lives and expand their characters’ personalities beyond just how they react to dangerous situations and how they prefer their alcohol.

combat rp events are fun when there isn't like 30 people typing at once. so  less populated combat rp events are good

ET who don't allow their events to be molded by player interaction shouldn't be ET

I can agree with this, but it isn't always unhealthy to have an idea of where the eventline is on course to go - allowing at the same, of course, for change via interaction.

I can only really share my personal philosophy from when I returned and joined the Story Team for a brief stint in this map:

I would argue that it is best to plan out your events with the potential for multiple outcomes, try to account for as many as you can from your own thinking, but also be comfortable and flexible enough to recognize that Player A and Player B might discover some unaccounted-for outcome and permit them to play that outcome through. I know a number of ST members have this silly arrogance whereby they think Player A and Player B ought to happily be corralled to Outcome X, but you shouldn't be running events then for your own pleasure. There are places on the internet where you can easily seek your pleasure without affecting Player A & B - go there instead.

Personally, and I don't expect you or anyone else to adopt my position, but I prefer those events with themes or situations that require a player to think and to problem-solve. Whether it is dressed in "the grimdark" or in "high fantasy" is tertiary to providing a pleasant challenge.

It is best to marry an intriguing setting and situation with the practical, keeping in mind that we are using the Minecraft video game to orchestrate both setting and situation. The dichotomy between "CRP" and "PvE/PvP" will slide across a scale dependent on how many players are present with the former becoming too unwieldy with too many people while the latter will lack detail and defaults to the avatar-mechanics of Minecraft.

If you want to bounce ideas off of me, you are already in my Space Pirate chat @satinkira;). Banter aside, I would love to recommend ideas for overall stories that are clear and set apart from the usual Paladin/Darkspawn type of events. I have a couple of old event-sites littered across the southern portion of the map too if you or any active Story Team would like to adopt.
