Smol 771 Popular Post Share Posted May 21, 2023 A Guide To The Under-Dark 478 E.S 17th Tov and Yermey ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ Chapter I Exploring the Uncharted ‘The Caverns’ The world has undergone a profound transformation, unrecognisable to those familiar with our age. It stands as a mere remnant of its former self, bearing no resemblance to the world we once knew and cherished. The illuminating beacon that once guided our every step has been extinguished, replaced by an engulfing darkness that shrouds our path. The once-familiar landscapes that offered solace and security have vanished, leaving behind an unfamiliar void. It is uncertain whether we reside beneath the very ground we once tread or have been transported to an alternate realm, but one thing remains clear: the place we once called home is lost to us. ‘Low Town’ A shanty town is in between the warped and crimson fungal forests. It rests upon the water and its construction uses the local materials. Though it seems to have been completely abandoned, someone already has set up a mushroom shop within the upper parts. The town is situated on a bed of geothermal activity, with bubbles rising from the water, meaning in the cold caves one may find warmth here. ‘Warped Citadel’ Above Low Town sits the Warped Citadel. A small city of ornate architecture, atop a base of dark stone. Its light and cleanliness draw all to it and thus has become bustling with many surviving folks from Almaris. The Warped Citadel gains its name from the blue vines and fungus that grow around it, providing some much-needed brightness in contrast to the dark cave walls. ‘Stonehelm Keep’ Behind the Citadel lay the ruins of an abandoned keep. Bright purple sharps of rock create a menacing environment around it, as the keep itself is deeply embedded into the stone. The architecture of Stonehelm Keep indicates an advanced level of technical skill. One may only wonder what caused it to fall. ‘Stonehelm’s Gate’ A large, looming gate stands behind the Keep of Stonehelm. No one guards it, but it is utterly immovable and unscalable. It is unknown what is behind it. ‘The Waters of Morgana’ The river surrounding the underground area has been dubbed Morgana, for its beauty and danger. It is a freshwater lake but highly unclean. Water from the upper caves flows into it, but it is unknown where it drains to. ‘The Oynx Banks’ Banks of dark and glossy stone roll into the waters of Lake Morgana. They are devoid of life , save for a few abandoned ships used by the Mori Quessir, but who knows that life dwells under the water? ‘The Deephold of Tal'Yrro’ The Urguani expeditionary force had discovered an ancient dwarven stronghold, with white walls and imagery of Dwarven smithing. It seems to be an abandoned facility for making golems. It is unknown what ancient dwarven secrets lie in this place. ‘The Dark Anvil’ A foul-smelling and dark cave is located underground. Within it are ancient and ruined machines, and in the centre a large anvil of dark stone. The exterior has been marked by the dwarves claiming it a shrine to one of their gods. However, it seems a cultist group of various peoples have taken to worshipping it. Visitors are advised to be cautious. Chapter II The Flora Crimson Stalks In the untamed forests, thrive the Crimson Stalks, extraordinary vines that twist and coil with a captivating blend of elegance and danger. These majestic tendrils wind through the foliage, displaying their vibrant crimson hue as a testament to their inherent strength and allure. Adorned with sharp thorns, akin to perilous hooks, these vines demand respect and caution from those who dare to handle them. The Crimson Stalks possess remarkable flexibility, making them invaluable for crafting an array of useful tools. Their supple nature allows for the creation of intricately woven nets, sturdy and resilient enough to ensnare even the most elusive creatures. These exceptional nets, fashioned with skill and precision, serve as reliable means of capturing and restraining quarry, withstanding their struggles and ensuring they remain securely confined. Red Buds The Red Buds emerge as magnificent mushrooms with colossal red hats. Towering proudly, they possess an ethereal allure that captivates all who lay eyes upon them. Their stems are fibrous like wood, albeit weaker and lighter, and their caps are edible if prepared properly. They need to be rinsed and cleaned for a sufficient amount of time, or else they will taste bitter. When cooked until brown, they have a delicious taste of tender meat. Though the long-term risks of eating any of the flora are unknown. Fructus Solis This extraordinary blossom emanates an aura of unknown energy, casting a vibrant, crimson glow akin to a small sun that illuminates the surrounding landscapes and beckons curious souls to its presence. Blood Branches The Fructus Solis grow upon the red trees, which have been named Blood Branches. Its wood seems light, but useful enough to use as timber as evident in its predominant use in Low Town. Sea Pickles Sea pickles can be seen along the shores of the underground lake. Their use and edibility need to be investigated. Witch’s Fingers Seaweed was seen growing in the depths of Lake Morgana; its leaves have the appearance of green gnarled fingers like that of a witch. It is theorised that it can be dried into food or other products. More investigation needs to be done by the head of Agriculture. Blue Pods With the blue fungal forests lie cyan and bright mushrooms of gigantic size. They appear similar in appearance to those of the red forests, but somehow warped. This is not only in appearance too but in flavour as well. As the Red Buds taste meat when prepared, the Blue Pods taste fruit, in particular a mix of pineapple, apple, and banana. Azure Vines The Azure veins possess many of the physical properties of the Crimson Stalks, except for spikes they possess an extremely sticky mucus all over them. KNIGHT KILLER Simple, brown and small mushrooms can be found in clutches around the caves. Amateur herbalists may confuse them for common Penny Bun mushrooms. But they are not, if ingested they may be lethal if not spat out immediately. If they are removed quickly they will still cause intense vomiting and bleeding in the stomach. Chapter III The Fauna Demon Carp A large red and scaly fish can be seen swimming in the waters of Morgana. Its scales are red, eyes are yellow and two small black horns grow atop its head. But the most important part is that it both looks and tastes like a carp, although with a slightly bitter aftertaste Skull Shrieker A fat and powerful bird with ebony black feathers and talons coloured like onyx. Though its most striking feature is its bone-white beak and feathers around its face, giving it the appearance of a skull. Its shriek is irritating to the ears, but on the bright side, its meat tastes like fowl. _RoyalCrafter_ 3181 Share Posted May 21, 2023 The Master of Agriculture sat cooking for the Queen some tasty Red Buds, while recovering from a near death experience having tasted Knight Killer. Their expedition was a worthwhile risk. Spoiler

ThatFunkyBunch 2029 Share Posted May 21, 2023 A shamanic Maehr has no idea about guides. For she needs them not. Dark armor rattles as she drops down from a mushroom stock and onto the form of an adolescent Lurker. Screaming out in zealot glee, as her thin blade makes purchase. +1
