[!] A painting done from the boat Vesta currently traveled on.

Southern winds blowing across a ruined city once again inhabited.

Vesta has been tired for too long. She can’t remember the last time she slept well enough through the night, not including the nights where her body collapsed from exhaustion rather than sleep. Getting on her armor kept proving to be a struggle, and only half of it was her metallic arm. She’s made peace with what’s to come, knowing full well others haven’t.

The battle rages around her, the clashing storm of steel and blood and gore surrounding her. At the center,

It’s peaceful. That’s a first for her. Battles weren’t always like this. She’s seen enough to understand that fact. Her bow had served her well while the battle raged. As had her rapier. She would continue to fight knowing it bought time for the others to continue to retreat. She pressed forward, still wanting to keep that peace that currently surrounded her. She would fight for all those she loved. She fought to not live as she had before. Perhaps in this next life she would be able to be happy.

Her arrows keep flying even when her fingers hurt to draw back the string. The Morri kept surrounding her. Would this be her last stand?

She had forgotten what it was like to actually suffocate. She had been surrounded when the others were calling for a retreat. She thought she heard the others but by the time she had turned to start her retreat, they were already on her. Some of the legionnaires stab through the weak points of her armor, and quickly overwhelm her, burying her under a mound of spiders scampering towards the others. The last few things she saw were the familiar armors get away. At least it wouldn’t have been for nothing she thought.

The darkness used to be a comfort, now it was just a reminder.

She didn’t expect to make it to the others. Covered in the dried mud, blood, and other viscera she crawled her way to the sounds of others in the cave system. She could feel the infection coursing through her body with each step. They took her to see medics and to get her wounds treated, but the damage was already done. While wallowing in the pain and waiting for the medicine to do what it could, her mind was released of the strict control she had on it. There were things she did manage to say but felt she would never be able to express her gratitude correctly. There were other things she said that she knew she regretted saying but she would also regret if she never said it.

The sea air helped her now that she could walk around on her own.

She stood at the dock looking out to the sea, her pack in one hand as the other rested on her rapier. She was finally getting to leave, starting her new journey of penance and discovery, and be just Vesta. With a final wave to those who had gathered to see her off, she stepped onto the boat. She still looked tired, but for the first time in a long while, she let a rare smile out towards the horizon.

“Where to miss?”

“Anywhere, so long as I see another sunrise.”

Spoiler

Welp, it's time Vesta takes a long journey elsewhere and find some peace. In the mean time I am considering her shelved unless something drags her back. It's been a wild ride playing her and don't worry: eventually she'll turn back up.

Vesta's twin stood on the dock for a while. A long while. Even as the sails of her ship dipped below the horizon, he stood there. As another member of his kin left, he stood there.

Two left

All those sleepless nights inside the small, cottage home in the Heartlands of Almaris came flooding back to him. And even as the sun began to dip below the horizon, Casimir Vilac couldn't help but wonder if he would truly see his sister again. He knew why she left. Hell, he let her leave but he couldn't let go.
As he made his way back to the small encampment on the shores of Failor, he collapsed in the newly constructed home for his family.
"Find yourself Ves. Wherever you end up, find yourself and come home."

Upon the beaches of Failor, the Adunic Monarch looks out as the sun began to set over the sea, watching as the waves danced shades of gold and orange. Far away heading out towards that Great Sea, a lone ship departs. Uriel reclines back 'gainst the driftwood he leaned against and took a long draw from the pipe 'tween his lips.

"God bless you, young Vesta, may your feet find their way, here, or wherever you find your peace."

"There are some wounds that time does not mend. Some things that are best left unsaid..."

Albéric mused as he heard of Vesta's departure. The one-armed hedge knight sat in the undergrowth, adding more wood to his campfire.

"Farewell, Vesta of Vilachia. I hope you find the peace you long sought in distant lands."

Alara Camian, usually quite icy in demeanor and unemotive, showed a rare hint of sadness upon hearing of Vesta's departure. "Unfortunate indeed that the Mori got in the way of my lessons with her... But I will hope that she is sufficiently armed with what I was able to impart. May the Spirits guide her well."
