As you all know, Rilath stepped down in September and I replaced him as Mod Admin for a second chance at leading the team. I had relatively stable activity during the first few months of that, but as my final semester at university ramped up, I was distracted maintaining my IRL priorities. Now that I don’t have a 7-course workload and have landed future employment, I have a stable schedule. I can finally give the care and attention to the server & team they both rightfully deserve. At the beginning of the year, I wanted to shake up Moderation. I sent this message to Moderation, and selected current members and prospective applicants to be the leaders of our new team. To cultivate an environment where people can thrive in mutual respect, creative dignity, and heartwarming hospitality. We must provide systems where players can independently and easily settle differences, not only coexist but thrive in mutual company, and which abandon elitism in favor of initiative and positivity. I have a plan for a fundamentally restructured team from the bottom up. __Today__ is the official start date of the new Moderation team. Here's my plan. For Myself - Adopt proactive leadership, be a liaison into the admin world - Empower moderators to make lasting low-effort high-impact changes with meaningful duties - Be there consistently for each member in my team - Implement and wrap up moderation projects, leave none in limbo - Make time to chill in VC, especially during general work For Moderators - Commit fully to the mission statement, work yourself out of a job. - Take ownership over the state of community culture and sentiment - Initiative-first mindset. Actively seek ways to improve the server, player experience, and community relations - Reject bureaucratic paperwork and forms, find ways to eliminate barriers to playing the damn game We are in this together. There is no "moderator plus". No managers or seniority. Each moderator on the team has an equal vote in the direction we want to take this server. And starting today, we will vote with our work and our actions — not our words. Finally, I'm making a bet today that is either blissfully stupid or utterly brilliant. It may totally collapse on me and I will take full responsibility for it. But, I believe the Moderation team can be an astounding, awe-inspiring team for this community. With a smaller team, I feel that our unnecessary, high effort low output busy-work has been eliminated. As it currently stands, we have 9 members on the team. This is lower than what my ideal time size is (11-13), but as I type this we are actively looking for new members to join us. At that, below is our modreq data since March. Spoiler This is a list of the topics we are currently discussing. CRP Rules - Analyzing our current rules, and adjusting them to make the system simple. Lead by: @Spoopy_Duck Internal Conflict (completed) - Adding new aspects to the system and redefining the rules. Lead by: @Masouri Mod Handbook - Updating our mod handbook. Lead by: @itdontmatta & @Fireheart Petty Theft and Heists - Analyzing our current rules, and adjusting them to make the system simple. Lead by: @itdontmatta, @frankdh, @Spoopy_Duck, and @The60th Chat Sanitization - Bettering our filter system. Lead by: @Fireheart, @Spoopy_Duck, and @frankdh Forum Rules - Redoing our rules, and making them consistent with our mission statement. Lead by: @Spoopy_Duck Forum Permissions - Self explanatory Lead by: @itdontmatta Misc Rules - Proposal of various rules, including adjusting our trap, build, and redstone / door / key rules. Lead by: @The60th Romance RP - How we can tackle escalation of Romance RP better, and discussing its place on our server. Lead by: @Mod Team Mod Forum Guide - Reworking our internal guide for handling forum warnings and rule enforcement. Lead by: @Fireheart, @Spoopy_Duck, @Ibn Khaldun I also want to take a moment for some honorable mentions to current and previous moderators. Spoiler @Masouri Huge props for taking initiative in trying to fix the mess that is conflict. One of the most level-headed and mission-driven team members that was on our team. @The60th Thank you for helping me with the day-to-day activities of the team while I was stressed. I appreciate you also analyzing our modreqs and seeing what you could automate to lower the amount of tickets that came in. @Mio You were a mod for 520 days, and you were @GMRO#2. Couldn't have gotten this far without you bro. @Fireheart From one madmin to another, thank you for holding me accountable this year. I appreciate you reminding me to take care of certain issues. @Mod Team #1 team no cap. Thanks for bearing with me during my last semester. Lastly, if you want to be involved in future discussions surrounding some of the projects that we are currently working on, including potential war rules - join our Mod Team discord at this link! If you want to be even more involved, we now have three specializations on the team that you can choose to focus on if you apply, including: server moderation, forum moderation, and conflict moderation. We are currently looking for more people who would rather lurk the forums than log in-game (forum janitors), as well as moderators who seek to fill all three specializations. The first step toward creating a safer environment is making FTB against the rules, and even a bannable offense. Full stop. People will message "Switch over to Discord?" moments after fading a scene and create a perfect festering ground for all kinds of degeneracy to occur. The truth of the matter is FTB is not needed to create a rich story. If a pregnancy must happen IC, players can easily arrange that OOC. If there is a romantic relationship between two characters, it is already implied that they are intimate with each other in some way or another. It might sound like a drastic measure but I assure you it will greatly reduce the chances for predators to prey on people. Nooblius 5794 Share Posted May 30, 2023 The line to be drawn, in my opinion, is as simple as if you would feel that the Roleplay is uncomfortable if it was between a 18yo and a 14yo OOCly then it shouldn't be on the server because that's often enough the situation. Another way of wording that is against Intimate Romance RP. Anything more than a peck on the cheek should be disallowed, and even intimate conversations I think ought be put to scrutiny. Relationships are obviously a big part of Character Roleplay, but you don't need to delve into many details to get the aesthetic/narrative of a Relationship.
