Countering/blocking Kicks

Many people seem to think that doing kicks is a powerful attack. Well, it can be if your doing it correctly and the correct kind of kick. Round-house kicks, front kicks, hurricane kicks, and rear kicks can be -dangerous- for your character.

The Round House kick - This is often perceived to be powerful and it is if you manage to pull it off. However, it can be declared a very dangerous attack to yourself.

Dangerous parts to the Roundhouse Kick being sent anywhere from the navel to head:

- If you were to miss the target when your putting force in, which you most likely are otherwise you wouldn't be doing it, you would go completely off balance. During this time, your opponent can RPly legit step in and use his sword to try to stab you or slice at your side.

- Lets say you had a weapon and you didn't want to dodge. Very simple. Bring your sword up with the sharp edge pointed at their leg. They will try to stop their foot but realistically if your putting any kind of power into your kick and you've actually done a Roundhouse in real life against a person or punching bag in boxing, you would know how hard that is. If you were to stop yourself before you hit that person, or blade, your body would be completely off balance once again. When you try to bring your foot back to your stance, the person with the sword could easily come in and use his blade.

- What if you had a shield? Well if you just stood there to take the blow like an idiot then of course you would stumble backwards or lose your footing most likely. What do you do with a shield though against a Roundhouse kick which a lot of nimble acrobatic people use? Step forward with your shield to ram him in his roundhouse attempt. This works extremely well if he's trying to do a spin before kicking. He will be knocked off balance because you would be moving in and from there you can use your blade if you have one. If you managed to knock him to the ground, even better.

Rear Kick - Extremely powerful if you strike the navel which would send any opponent doubling over, to the stomach as it would be painful, or do the solar plexus which would wind them while being painful.

Dangers about a Rear Kick if your opponent is kicking the groin area or higher:

- Its not instant. Usually, when performing this, your leg your kicking with would be behind your other leg. If you miss, you won't be off balance unless your driving into kick to make it extremely powerful (Spartan Kick). If you were driving into it,  there are two options. One, side step to the side so the kick would go past you. If you do this you can use your blade to slice at their leg or horizontal slice at their stomach so they can't do any fancy rolls forward without running into your blade. Two only works if you have a shield. With this shield, step forward and try to ram into his kick because it will stop it before his momentum builds, throw him off balance and possibly to the ground, and leave you with an opening to strike.

- If he is driving in or isn't, attempt to grab his leg when it comes in after sidestepping or stepping back out of his range to grab his foot. With this, you can either pull him forward which if he is driving in would make him do a split, completely throw away his balance, leave him open for attack, and so on. You can only do this if you don't have any weapons. The second is sidestepping, grabbing his leg, then pushing into his leg into him which would basically make him hop backwards. That or you could always, if he is kicking high, grab his leg then just keep him hopping around like a bunny. People don't actually realize in any way, shape, or form how weak that leg out there really is when it is caught unless they have done it in real life. When you grab his leg, he will be immediately off balance which thus helps in his weakness and inability to really do anything.

KEEP IN MIND THIS IS MOSTLY FOR IF YOUR ENEMY DOESN'T HAVE A WEAPON IN HAND AT THE TIME OF YOUR COUNTER!

Front kicks - These are the best form of kicks in my opinion to use in any fight. They can hurt and have the minimal risks if used correctly.

Dangers of Front Kicks to the navel or higher:

- The Front kick weakness's are the same as a rear kick except the front kick is faster as it is your leg being used in front. The problem is its weaker and you can thrown off balance easier if they know the above ways to stop your kick.

Best way of using the front kick:

Like any attack if you've done actual martial arts or fighting in real life, you eventually find out ways to counter it. The best way to use the front kick though is to do a fast snap kick to the knee or shin as it has minimal risks while being painful. Kicks to the knee will slow your opponent down or even cripple him (not in a literal sense). The kicks to the shin would just make it painful to walk and slow his foot movement (dodging).

Hurricane Kicks - We aren't in any f*cking anime. Yes, IF they hit they /can/ be strong. However why in the f*cking world would you use it? Shields can shove you off balance. Stepping into your kick while your kicking will send you off balance. You can also be stabbed/killed during this time as well! There are a trillion weaknesses to this kick and if you use it anywhere to a person above the groin, you can quite easily be countered. Many people who use a hurricane kick to strike anywhere above the navel is an absolute fool who wants to die.

There is a problem. While /you/ may know this, that these kicks can send you off balance and whatever else, your opponent may not. Some things though, like shield ramming, most people would know would send you off balance.
