I was born to a high elf mother but the father I know is a wood elf. My parents are tree farmers, living in a very simple house surrounded by farmland. My mother was originally raised by a Mali’thill family but fled Okarn’thilln because of her failed allegiance to her people. Her parents were both followers of Kalenz Uradir and forced his preachings upon my mother. Despite her strict upbringing, she was never able to agree with the Mali’aheral ideals. Although her outlook on the world was offensive to her fellow elves, she tried her best to stay quiet about her true feelings. Her parents arranged her marriage at age 23, and when her husband forced her to have a child with him, she knew she could not take it any longer. She left her family and ran away into the wilderness. She had never really traveled, as her parents were intent on training her to act properly before she goes out into the world to represent her family’s name, so everything she came across was new to her. After living out in the wilds for two days off the little food she brought with her, she crossed paths with a slightly younger wood elf. At first, he almost ignored her, but then realized she wasn’t washed and had no home. He offered to take her back to his shack. The other wood elves were quite shocked to see him bring home a high elf. The village leader was very upset by this. He was worried that the high elf would cause harm to his people and mistreat them. Though she seemed different than other high elves, he began weekly check-ups with her to ensure that she was abiding by the laws. She did not break any rules and always sought to help the other villagers with their daily tasks. My mother quickly fell in love with the wood elf who rescued her and he would teach her about his culture. She would explain to him why she ran away and what her family is like. Nine months after her arrival, she gave birth to me: a high elf. My mother and “father” got married. They would not tell me the truth about my real father until I was 18 years old. As I grew up, I was taught the values and beliefs of the Mali’ame. But I felt out of place. I never felt truly connected to my brothers in the village. I have always had a very strong sense of justice. When I was 18, my parents sat me down one night and explained the story of my origin. I can’t quite remember what I felt when I heard that the man I loved my whole life and called “Papa” wasn’t my father. The only thing I do know from then is that I did not want to speak to my parents for months. They had betrayed me and lied to me for my entire life. After being able to process the shock, I started to realize that the odd feeling that I didn’t belong to the tribe finally made sense. Knowing that I was not weird but just born from different blood, I was able to forgive my parents. I understood that they meant no harm and were just trying to raise me in the way of the wood elves. Despite their parenting, I was always extremely interested in joining the high elves as a guard but gathered that this was impossible because of my parents. So, I decided to create my own opportunity. With the hunting training I received from my father, I was able to make money by offering special services to others. These services range from simply tracking/hunting someone, to spying and gathering information. For a higher price, I also assassinate for those who do not wish to face punishment. I have had this business for 3 years now, but it’s been very slow. Maybe I need to make some better connections with people in high places? From what I’ve heard, they have several vendettas…
