Richard Sharpe, born in the poorest of circumstances, his mother a ***** and his father a tramp leaving the boy and his mother before Richard could learn to know this disappointment of a man. At the age of seven Richards mother past away and he was taken in by an orphanage. Life was hard here, but not as hard as on the slums of Helena. Thieving and fighting for a place in the underworld of society Richard got into a drunken brawl with a soldier of the Holy Orenian Empire . Managing to escape the claws of justice, Richards only escape from a lifetime in prison was to enlist. Richards skill and traits gained in avoiding the law all throughout his childhood gave him a remarkable advantage over his fellow comrades. He learned to trust on the skillful and have little regard for the weak. He gained a friend, Pat who called Richard ‘****’. Wherever **** went Pat followed and both fought many a battle together in the War of the Two Emperors. Both getting through remarkably unscathed apart from that one scar on ****'s left cheek, which Pat said made him more handsome so nothing to complain about. Both **** and Pat fell in love and married but a disease struck the camp and Sharpe's wife died. The scar of the loss deeper than the one on his cheek and as fate seemed more fortunate with Pat, from deep down Sharpe began to resent Pat's happiness with his still living wife. After the war Pat and Sharpe went their own ways, both had seen enough bloodshed for a lifetime and wanted rest and quiet. A time of peace and satisfaction, is what Richard needs...
