Al’ran was born to a poor family of the name Kirvis in the forests or Curon. The second child and first son of his parents, he was born a sickly and weak little thing, with an odd tuft of fiery red hair on the back of his brown-haired head. His elder sister was lost to the plague when he was just 12, and it devastated the poor boy, as she was the closest to him of his family, and one of his only true friends, the other being his cousin, Ei’bou. In his despair, he threw himself into his father’s livelihood of a lumberman, building up his weak body and becoming surprisingly strong for his physique, which never quite changed from it’s lean, pale complexion. As he grew in strength, so the red hair spread over his head and around his body, until the color of his hair was nothing but flaming red and orange. At age 24, while off working with his father, a mis-felled tree landed upon him and his father, Bel’rin Kirvis, shattering his father’s leg and maiming Al’ran’s left arm, tearing off his finger. He rushed his father home, screaming in agony from the white hot pain, but to no avail Bel’rin died two days later in the night, having bled out internally from a key artery being punctured by a bone fragment. In a rage over his inability to save his father, Al’ran forsook the Church of Canon that his father believed in so strongly, unable to believe that the Creator would ever allow such a thing to happen to him. All he had left to him by his Bel’rin was a small silver chain, worn around the neck. It was bizarrely heavy, as if it were made of lead, but partook of a strength ten times that of iron. Broken by the death of his father, Al’ran abandoned his home, seeking solace in adventure and mercenary work. After lying to his mother that he would return in a few days, he left for Oren.
