Often during those long journeys, his father would tell him stories of the past. But one story stuck dearly to Filimon, that which his great-grandfather who lived during the the time of the Fifth Empire of Oren, was a great diplomat who served the empire and even fought and survived the Siege of Dunland, but lost all his possessions and status once the empire collapsed. Even if those stories were likely exaggerated and maybe not true at all, they inspired Filimon to seek a better life and take the path of his great-grandfather.
His time spent travelling, allowed him to see the ugly side of history, whenever a war was wagered, he had to flee, seek trade somewhere else. All this bloody nonsense left him with a bitter taste for war, especially during the The War of Two Emperors, where he watched his father being on the brink of losing his life, being mistaken for an Orenian spy, sent there only to rebel the folk. “War should not be fought with swords, but with tongues. History favors the smartest, not the strongest” he thought. So at 35, packed his finest clothes, combed his grey hair withered already by time and went towards Helena, with only one desire in mind, to find work as a diplomat in the Mezarin Palace.
