Lyonel was born to two human parents, Thorald and Krista, on the streets of Sutica. His parents, both originally street performers, became merchants under Trade Prince Mika Goldhand’s expansion of Sutica’s markets. They experienced mild success, and Lyonel’s childhood in a city of different races and beliefs helped to establish a love of others and a prominent education in the arts of non-magical healing and plague control. Being an only child also helped to improve the special bond he had with his parents and friends, who appreciated Lyonel’s desire to help others. His parents also instilled in him a devout appreciation for canonism, and it wasn’t entirely uncommon to see Lyonel preaching to his friends of his religion (even if it may have earned him a black eye every now and again). Deciding to retire early from their merchant trade, Thorald/Krista/Lyonel traveled and settled in a small farming village outside of Ves, where they worked as laborers and farmers performing odd jobs. Although he missed the bustling life of Sutica and its people, Lyonel remained optimistic and used his healing talents wherever they could possibly be needed. As all was seemingly going well, however, tragedy struck Lyonel when his mother died during a farming accident involving a waterwheel. Lyonel couldn’t bear to stay alongside the blood-stained soil and the village where his mother died, and therefore decided to leave the village, believing his talents could be better elevated elsewhere. Now outside the city of Haense, Lyonel embarks on seeking healing work and a possible mentor to improve his plague doctor career.
