First, a bit about Kethael’s family tree and his homeland. Kethael grew up in house Aleanray, a large noble family. The aristocratic nobles valued power, family ties, and of utmost importance, honoring the houses traditions and staying true to house Aleanray no matter the cost. Arcby is now ruled over by what once used to be known as house Dryearzea, the rivaling family to house Aleanray, and now the royal family. The 2 families have been known to quarrel constantly throughout history, and the main reason for this is an important event that has changed history and kept house Areanray living in constant envy for the Dryearzea’s political and social status. Amaryl Dryearzea, once known as Amaryl Aleanray, was Kethael’s great aunt, who became a Dryearzea after marrying Saedrim Dryearzea, the leader of the family. Saedrim eventually was assassinated by some commoners, so Amaryl was left as the leader. Not long after the lord of Arcby at the time grew very sick, and was without an heir, so he passed the crown onto Amaryl. Throughout her reign of Arcby, she strived to bring power back to the people and weaken nobility and the wealthy, however she was also assassinated, suspected to be at the hand of her son, Haro Dryearzea for the throne. Now, Haro and his Wife, Yaaera, rule over Arcby to this day. Kethael grew up feeling different. He simply did not reflect the key values of house Aleanray, and felt that their conservative nature left them arrogant and cold. His family was aware of his “weakness”, and he often was forgotten or criticized for his hesitation. Kethael grew more and more impatient with his family's ways, and repeatedly helped the house owned slaves as best he could. The son of Haro Dryearzea, and the usurper to his throne, was Casvan Dryearzea, and he was a good friend of Kethael’s. Both Kethael and Casvan knew that he would have to leave eventually, and Casvan planned to help him as best he could when he did. Over the course of his life, Kethael takes notes. These notes were about his family, and his plots to ultimately leave it all behind some day. For a long time Kethael rests, inviting thoughts of escape, longing for the moment he breaks away. The days go on, he aids the slaves, inspects the families property, observes house Aleanray’s structures, and repeats. Time passes, and his bitterness towards house Aleanray only grows as he goes on. Finally, Kethael’s family finds out about his plots to abandon the house, and action must be taken to end his conspiracies. Kethael has remained dormant for too long, and it is time for his final reckoning. Kethael catches wind of his house’s plans to confront him through his slave connections, and knows it is time to flee. All of his planning, the years spent envisioning just how he would escape, lead up to this moment. Kethael executes his plan in perfection, picking locks, sneaking past guards, the works, all with Casvan’s help. He breaks the law, knowing full well his parents will do the same, as they had been for the past 100s of years. The Dryearzea royal family has access to all government owned ships, so Casvan steals one for Kethael. Casvan understands the risks associated with stealing the ship, but knows that keeping Kethael safe is his top priority, and he is willing to take the fall for him. Kethael ends up sailing to Sutica, leaving his old life as a wealthy noble in exchange for freedom and justice. He waits for the day his family catches up with him, and spends his time preparing. For any further clarification, Kethael spent all of his stolen wealth to end up in Sutica, and has nothing left. He is no longer a noble. He prefers to stick to the shadows and keeps his last name to himself.
