It is no secret that many challenges have tested our mettle: the specter of unrest and discord looms in certain quarters, and it is incumbent upon us to address these matters. Even so, the indomitable Haeseni spirit shall always persist, even in tumultuous times such as these; thus, I proceed with this publication. I. On Kingdom-wide Affairs II. On Courtly Appointments ON KINGDOM-WIDE AFFAIRS A fierce snowstorm has swept through the land, covering Valdev in a thick blanket of snow. The citizens of Haense have since faced harsh winter conditions, with freezing temperatures and limited visibility due to the heavy snowfall. In response to this crisis, the Queen has implemented Operation Nikirala to address the challenges posed by the snowstorm. Citizens are advised to don multiple layers of fur and seek refuge within the Palace, amongst other measures detailed in the following missive. The Hospital of St. Amyas seeks to bolster its ranks of healers and medics in light of the recent blizzard that has befallen Haense. This recruitment drive seeks to gather individuals who wish to learn the art of healing wounds and varying ailments. Aspiring medics are invited to present themselves at the hospital, where they shall be assessed for their proficiency in the healing arts. The Kingdom recently celebrated its sesquicentennial independence, marking a grand 150 years of independent rule, spanning three whole Saint's years. In honor of this momentous occasion, a grand ball and market festival were held, gracing the capital with splendid merriment and jubilation. ON COURTLY AFFAIRS Despite the tumultuous circumstances posed by this harrowing snowstorm, the Esrova Prikaz Court has continued to flourish. The latest appointments within Her Majesty’s Court include the esteemed Firress Laurissa Kort, who has been bestowed with the title of Mistress of the Abstract in Lord Haus Weiss-Vuiler’s stead. The beloved Lord Haus served dutifully under the Queens Sofia and Amaya for many years and has earned his well-deserved retirement. We thank him for his service within the Royal Courts, for he paved a considerable path in his studies of the Abstract. Joining the ranks of the Esrova Servantry are Firr Iosif and Firress Danika. The Queen and her councilors are certainly delighted to have them and believe the Palace grounds shall flourish under their care! THE HISTORY OF HAESENI INDEPENDENCE For many years, Hanseti-Ruska stood as a vassal beneath the Holy Orenian Empire. Its status as a Kingdom, granted by the Empire, was first held by King Petyr I, and such vassalage would remain until King Josef I’s reign. While The Edict of Separation1 was officially issued by Holy Orenian Empress Anne I on the 11th of the Amber Cold, 1786, tensions between Haense and the Empire had been high for many years. The Haeseni and Orenian peoples often felt they had grown distant due to vast cultural differences between the two groups. On the day of the declaration, King Josef I was summoned to meet with Empress Anne I and Emperor John II. Due to the strain between Haense and the Empire, Josef was particularly cautious and had several of his knights and trusted councilors accompany him to the meeting. Among this entourage was Lord Palatine Konstantin Wick, Lord Treasurer Edvard Amador, Queen-Mother Viktoria of Metterden, and Lord Justicar Lauritz Christiansen. There, it was announced by the Empress and Emperor that while they were displeased with Haense’s reluctance to integrate into the Empire, they were willing to relinquish control over the Kingdom and allow it to become its own governing body. Since then, the Dual Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska has flourished as an independent entity for over one hundred and fifty years, ushering in a golden age of prosperity for the Haeseni peoples. The Kingdom has stood the test of time and, by the grace of Godani, shall continue to thrive forevermore. 1] The Edict of Separation THE REVELRY OF CROWS The 11th of Jula ag Piov [September 21st, 6pm EST] In the heart of the Haeseni capital, the town square shall be transformed into a bastion of knowledge and tradition. All attendees are encouraged to peruse the history booths, where ancient tomes unfold the tales of our realm's history. Thereafter, the wisdom of all shall be put to the test via trivia questions that delve into our rich past, challenging the knowledge and wit of all in attendance. Amidst the bustling square, carts and stalls brimming with the flavors and craftsmanship of Haense shall line the streets as far as the eye can see. It is there that a variety of traditional Haeseni dishes and artisan crafts will be offered for sale. This grand celebration of our heritage and unity, officially dubbed ‘The Revelry of Crows,’ shall continue with a Carrion Black drinking contest, wherein taverneers will congregate to partake in this Haeseni tradition. As guests relish in drink and song, the Brotherhood of Saint Karl will parade down the streets, presenting the penultimate display of national pride that will conclude this momentous event. THE EVE OF MEMORIUM The 10th of Vzmey ag Hyff [September 22nd, 5.30pm EST] During the second month of the festivities, a deeply meaningful tradition will take place at the Haeseni Memorial Ball upon the evening termed ‘The Eve of Memorium.’ This unique event is a time when the people of Hanseti-Ruska come together to pay their respects to those who have passed on. The highlight of the evening is the ‘Last Drink of Death.’ As attendees gather in their historical attire, dressed to resemble figures from the kingdom's rich past, a solemn toast offered by the Queen will be given. Each guest pours half the contents of their glass onto the floor, symbolizing their shared remembrance for those who are no longer among them. Following the pouring of libations, a prayer is offered, invoking blessings upon the departed souls. At the conclusion of this prayer, the attendees shall raise their glasses and partake in the remainder of their drink. THE AUTUMNAL SOLSTICE FESTIVAL OF GORM & ST. HENRIK ISSUED BY THE ON THIS 6TH DAY OF WZUVAR AG BYVCA OF 495 E.S. ✧──────────────⊱🜂⊰──────────────✧ THE AUTUMNAL SOLSTICE IS a momentous occasion for the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska as it shepherds the changing of seasons and the upcoming bounty of the fields. Whilst the vibrant green of the summer fades into the warm hues of gold and red indicative of Haeseni autumn, the people shall bear witness to the diligent toil of the Kingdom's farmers and laborers as the harvest reaches its pinnacle. Finally shall the fields yield their precious crops and the orchards bear the fruits of their labor. The mythological figure Gorm, the mysterious three-eyed crow, is historically intertwined with the symbolism of the autumn harvest. This figure was often invoked by the ancient Haeseni peoples who sought a plentiful growing season. It was once believed that the Karovic, our ancestors, were derived from the very being of Gorm, and thus, his connection to the land and the harvest remains a significant aspect of Haeseni culture. In addition to the legend of Gorm, the Haeseni also look to St. Henrik, a venerable figure who once performed the miracle of making a barren wheatfield flourish. His divine intervention, too, marks the importance of the harvest in Haeseni tradition and is revered during the solstice to remind us of the blessings once bestowed upon the Kingdom. Bearing in mind such cultural significance, it is with great joy that Her Royal Majesty, Queen Amaya Milena has chosen to officially institute this Haeseni holiday – formally dubbed Khovalafest – to commemorate the autumnal solstice, followed by a celebration of the traditional Barovifest to celebrate the subsequent harvest that shall occur later in the coming Saint’s weeks. The first Khovalafest indeed holds great significance, as it coincides with the 15th anniversary of our King and Queen’s marriage. Such a milestone marks a golden age for the Kingdom as their enduring leadership has ensured a bountiful harvest for all. ✧──────────────⊱🜂⊰──────────────✧ I THE ROYAL CAPITAL OF VALDEV shall host the festival, wherein the populace will partake in numerous traditional games and activities proffered by the courtiers of the Esrova Prikaz Court. Bobbing for apples, apple-picking, and corn-doll weaving will take place within the square, followed by the sacred tradition of blessing the obtained harvest. WHEN WHEAT IS FIRST harvested from the fields, each attendee shall craft their own wyznik, (Common: harvest wreath) made of the wheat stalks to symbolize the wealth of the harvest. The particular blooms that flourish during autumn (sunflowers, pansies, and daisies) may be woven into each wreath. These wreaths shall be blessed by a Canonist priest, then presented before the Queen. Thereafter, a bonfire shall be lit, and a dance around it will ensue to celebrate the good tidings that God’s blessed harvest has since brought. July 2023 The tradition of Player Appreciations is integral to the Haeseni community and the positivity/encouragement we try to foster amongst the members within. A CELEBRATION OF THE BROTHERHOOD OF SAINT KARL ISSUED BY THE ON THIS 8TH DAY OF TOV AG YERMEY OF 492 E.S. ✧──────────────⊱🜂⊰──────────────✧ AS DUSK DESCENDS UPON the North, all denizens of the realm are hereby invited to partake in a celebration within the Haeseni capital of Valdev to honor the Brotherhood of Saint Karl. In homage to the valorous Brotherhood, there shall be contests of brawn and tests of strength scattered about the square, each designed to test the mettle and prowess of our soldiers - archery, caber toss, sword duels, etcetera. Every flagon within the realm shall be raised, and the drinking games shall commence in the Bard n’ Bottle tavern thereafter. On this day, merriment shall flow as freely as the rivers that encircle our beloved capital. Let this be a celebration marked by the clang of swords and the triumphant roars of victory, for the valor and dedication of the Brotherhood are the very pillars upon which our beloved Kingdom stands.
