Cerus was born in the Golden City of Ves to a family of low wealth. His parents were named Stella and Maxus Ilari. Shortly after his birth however, Stella died due to post birth complications, leaving Maxus alone to raise Cerus. Despite the long hours put into working the mines Maxus was barely able to provide enough money for the family. Cerus was impacted not just in the lack of food on the table, but was ostracized by the wealthier kids in his neighborhood. Cerus grew to resent them, as he hated how they relish in luxury while looking at him with disdain. This mentality would subconsciously be applied to all wealthy families in the city. There were others who shared his woes. Cerus was able to make friends with the other poor children, as well as the orphans who had escaped their housing units. They all understood each other, and would play pranks on wealthy individuals like stealing their trousers off a clothes line or remove the hinges of their doors. These acts would earn the hostility of the local guard who had dubbed them as a guild of thieves. Being apart of the guild brought join to Cerus, but this was short lived until the fateful day when his Father did not come back from work in the mine. Cerus would find out that there had been a mine cave in, and that Maxus was one of the unlucky souls to not make it out alive. The blow the world had dealt him was like nothing ever before. He cursed the wealthy families and their unfair joyfulness, as his disdain grew into a hatred. Knowing that he would be sent to an orphanage, Cerus ran away and joined back with his other family in the guild. There he spent the remainder of his childhood, where he trained his skills in stealing and stealth, as was the only way to find food for his now bounty wanted guild. Cerus would find relative peace for the next few years as well as making his best and most cherished friend who simply went by the name of Lain. Lain was the most wanted out of anyone else in the guild, earning his reputation for violent assassination tasks, including the murder of wealthy businessman Svend Sellis. Lain was discovered in the act however, and became one of the most wanted men in the city. Cerus and Lain shared much of their time together, and as veteran members of the guild, would be sent out on the more dangerous missions. This would inevitably lead to the day of their final mission together. On a foggy night, Cerus and Lain were tasked a simple but dangerous mission: Trailing and stealing the solid gold eagle pendant off of one of the wealthiest business men in the city, Fredrik Rainer. The pendant was of incredible value, and would be able to support the guild financially for several months. The mission did not go as planned however, as one of Fredrik’s personal guards managed to catch Lain off gaurd as his chest was impaled with a broadsword. Cerus erupted in pure rage, as he mercilessly struck both Fredrik and the guard with his dagger, killing them both. His anguish was not so easily quelled however, as he ran off from the crime scene and hid inside an abandoned building, where he cried himself to sleep. As Cerus slept, he underwent a mental transformation. Unable to deal with the mental trauma a second time, his mind blocked out all memories of Lain’s death. Every time they resurged, Cerus would block them out again and again until his mind had become completely entangled. Cerus woke up a different man, not knowing about the previous night, Cerus, believing he was the wanted assassin Lain, got up to commence his day as normal. The name “Cerus” seemed familiar to him, but he disregarded it, as he did not know anyone by that name, or of any guild that he was associated with. The one thing he still remembers however, was his hatred towards the evilness that is the wealth of the city, and how nice it felt to slice the neck of a noble. Lain believes in justice for less fortunate children, and is planning killing on riding the world of evil by killing the Nobles of Ves, as they must be the source of this evil.
