Here's the question, batman. Did spoon-feeding turn the heroes incompetent? Did pandering create a dark age?

“Darkspawn” no longer has meaning or punch
-
Grouping magic along good/evil is valuable and is not the reason “darkspawn” has no oomph. Darkspawn just doesn’t really mean anything and just implies “you’re not from the light.” If the server leaned fully into the light vs dark aesthetic it would be evocative (maybe even getting the people going), but since lots of lore does not reinforce bad guys being BORN FROM THE DARK AND HIDDEN FROM LIGHT, calling someone “darkspawn” loses any punch it could have had. Instead it becomes a simple buzzword with nothing for the mind to latch onto other than “necrodrazifrostieghoulmysticbloodmage”. (I understand that all dark magics have edgy grimdark background lore that explains why the existence of the lore is a massively destabilizing affront to the fabric of reality). It’s simply a bad catchall.
Evildoer (or better yet, villain) and it’s derivatives are more hard-hitting in my mind because you are accusing someone of literally enacting evil (which dark magic pieces lean into far more than causing darkness). Even if it’s cheesy and moustache-twirly it says something concrete.

i made a tier list maker for your favourite CAs and MAs https://tiermaker.com/create/lotc-ca-ma-tierlist-16856586
give hot takes

Does there exist any manner of lore for MA/CAs that's basically "We allow the ST to sometimes just mess with our blorpos (Characters) for the fun of it at any time without reasoning"?
Like the equivalent of Prophesy posts in a way, but perhaps with some tangible effects added on it.

Here is an example of this mechanic applied into a MArt. Even though I’m the perfect ET who can do no wrong, and my cadre of lackeys are almost as competent as me (/j), I think this kind of thing I BAD. Giving a shitter ET with one week on the job a license to **** with one specific group is a recipe for targeted bullying.

genuine question: even after having a TA, i'm not sure how to go about asking/requesting/wanting/getting an MA or CA that I particularly want. obviously asking OOC is a big no-no, but the way some people act, it's like im meant to pretend i dont want it. what is the proper etiquette to trying to get an MA/CA that you want?
it's quite discouraging for new players when they show up somewhere, wanting to make their character into a mage or otherwise and are called a magic beggar for the rest of their lotc experience. be friendly for the love of god. it shows that they actually took the time to look into the lore for what they thought could be fun. of course i dont mean the people who are rude and abysmal rpers, but, the friendly people who just never learned what 'magic begging' means-
Teaching magic oftentimes sucks. It becomes easier- just like with running a small group- to say, "You're not playing by my rules, so I won't engage with you. You're not here from RP, you're here from OOC motivation." But that's not an excuse for bad teaching. Support systems like magic-schools and knowledge communities go a long ways towards making it a better experience for teachers and students together.
