Lucas was born to a fairly affluent family, but not to the extent of nobility or what most considered wealthy. He was showered with culture: art, literature, theatre, and philosophy. He developed a fine taste for these things, especially for philosophy. However, that is where his love for his childhood ends. He was forced into combat training, social situations that felt fake to him, specific mannerisms that to him just became a bore, and he was made to listen to extensive sermon and prayer (through the Church of Canon), even though he was unsure of where he stood religiously. As soon as he was able to, he left to make his own life, his own way. Eventually, he came across a small city, and lived their making a relatively meager wage for his advising and writing. He got a small abode and split rent with a highlander named Miles who had come to the city for similar reasons, to be free to make his own living. The highlander was the epitome of idealism. The two had a shaky relationship, Lucas being more of a realist, and seeing Miles' idealism as annoying and counterproductive. He saw the younger man as naive. Miles eventually got sick, at the young age of 35. At this point, Lucas was around the age of 38. They had lived together and had become friends through the ~15 years they'd lived together. In Miles' deathbead, Lucas became plagued with guilt and cynicism. He rejected that Miles' may be going to a better place. The memories of Miles' idealistic notions weighed on Lucas as Miles died. He took it as a sign of Miles' ignorance, and decided it was best if he lived alone. Lucas has, to this point, mostly stayed on his own. He was already an introvert to begin with, and it only took Miles' death, one who would have wanted Lucas to see more of the world, to instead give Lucas the excuse to be alone. But Lucas realized this. He was the one to be naive all along. Perhaps it was time to stop pretending, and to finally see the world before it was his time to die. He had made excuses all of his life to be a sour old man, using the smallest of sorrows and molding them into the deepest of woes. How could he have let himself live such a melancholy existence? Is there really time to change who he is? -- He carries a pocket watch given to him by his family before he departed. It's as old as he is. -- He wears a single monocle, for reading. -- If he comes across a High Elf, he is likely to stare. He hates their pompousness, but likes their reservation and love for the arts. There is no in-between to the mix of love and hate he feels for them when compared to other races.
