He was raised as a relatively poor orc. His father always pushed him to become strong in order to protect and feed them. And so he did. He fought very very hard to feed his family, which also included a little brother and a little sister. When he did not come back with food or had not completely obeyed his father, he would get punished and were not to return unless he completely obeyed. This one time he was out in the wilds and had to get food for his family, as his dad had also been crippled by war. It was very late already and he that is also why he ran through the forests to find anything to eat. Unfortunately for him he did not pay good attention and fell down into a canyon. He ofcourse survived the fall due to his skills in martial arts which also made him be able to catch himself very well. Down at the bottom, with his left arm broken, he was being stared at by 3 wolves. They started attacking him at it resulted in a fierce fight. Eventually due to the brute force Barzhul won and brought one of the wolves home, from which he still wears the coat to this day.
