Gwyl was born in the Free State of Sutica, as the only child of an Adunian man and a Heartlander woman that decided to settle there after years of travelling. His father was a thief for the Master Thieves Guild before he broke their code, changed his name and cut any ties to them. He later was involved in smaller crime organizations and shady people at the southern parts of Almaris, he was a tall cold-gazed man with gray eyes, he would drag Gwyl with him from a young age trying to induct him into a similar lifestyle, a lifestyle of risk, bitterness and pain, all for a chance of a reward that would be higher than those stakes. At the age of 12, he was even forced to witness a man lose his right hand once by his own father, as if he was to be taught that failure would be his undoing. His mother, a beauty with fiery red hair, was the opposite to all that, she taught him the most simple yet precious things in life, such as love, compassion and to treat everyone as an equal. She would take him through the marketplace and help her carry their purchases back home, or even take him to long walks from time to time, telling him multiple children stories and fables or tales of magical creatures like the golems, an enormous stone in the shape of a man, given life by the mysterious nature of magic, as she would say.
One day, as they were returning from such a walk late in the night, they were both jumped by two crooks, ugly looking men with sharp knives at the ready, threatening them for their belongings. His mother, standing in front of Gwyl, refused and they shoved her away attempting to kidnap him, but she quickly got hold of a rock stood as fast as she could and struck one of them on the back of the head and the other instinctively thrust his knife into her neck, killing her almost instantly. Mere moments later a hooded figure darted from a nearby alley, drawing his blade with the one hand while with the other he made a small gesture as if he was casting a spell and he began slicing like the wind, faster than the eye can catch, getting rid of the two men before they could even react, spilling their guts on the streets, he then lowered his hood to reveal it was no other than Gwyl’s own father, he was shocked and quickly began tending to Gwyl’s mother but it was way too late for her. The whole ordeal would ultimately undone the lessons his mother taught him, especially after it was revealed that those men were enemies of his father and tried to weaken him by striking at his own family.
As the years passed by his father would continue to train Gwyl so he can protect himself when he himself couldn’t protect him anymore and by each day he’d become quieter and quieter, until one day he wouldn’t speak at all, traumatized by his own failures, he’d stay home almost all day long, a man imprisoned in his own body, tormented by his own mind. At the age of 18 Gwyl would finally leave the cruel place he was raised in, ready to make his own path in life, he left without uttering a single goodbye to his father, knowing that he wouldn’t get a response. He took a ship off those islands thinking that he left his past behind, a small part of him, carrying his mothers values, showing glimpses of optimism and hope for a new beginning even, but in reality the trauma he bares is too much and thus his past will always follow him.
