Fredman Buckley was born an ordinary halfling in a small farming settlement to the south of the Holy Oren Empire. He was the only son of Ada and Robin Buckley, and grew up with his older sister Bell. There was nothing spectacular about this village but it was pleasant enough for a halfling of Almaris. The most notable incident from this period was the fire that broke out in his burrow and damaged much of the interior, forcing the Buckley family to move in with their nearby relatives the Tunnon family.
Soon after coming of age, Fredman began to want something more than just to be a farmer as his parents and all his ancestors had been. He had heard of the great cities of humans and longed to one day live in one of them, but his family would never approve of him leaving as it would be an affront to Knox. The last straw came when a human merchant by the name of Sullius Geyer stopped in the village on his way back to Providence and told tales of the great capital city. Fredman decided that he would stow himself away in the merchant’s wagon and eventually reach the city that he had long dreamt about. Luckily for him, the plan went off without a hitch and he arrived in the city to begin his new life.
He has adjusted well to city life in the 13 years that have passed since then. He loves watching the tall folk go about their lives while his bare feet shuffle along the streets on his way to whichever odd job he’ll be working that day. He spends his nights in the taverns and inns of the city alongside the humans, making fast friends with several of them. Because he has picked up much of the human way of life, some say that Fredman is now more human than halfling but some halfling habits are hard to kick.
