Born to a family of poor, former nobles on the outskirts of the Holy Oren Empire; Jarvan received at least a basic level of education, but proved to be quite a curious and gifted child, enough to eventually be taken in by a local scholar as an apprentice. He did not excel in the martial arts that his father attempted to teach him, but he still found himself regularly at the end of a sword or rapier, as his strong views and pride often got him into honor duels and conflicts with other scholars and sages, many of which he failed to beat and his shirt still hides many scars because of it. Still, after years of study: his mentor managed to teach him history, biology, geography and many other things that Jarvan would eventually ignore in favour of his personal interests, most notably: the true nature of the Void. He had always been one to go against his kinsmen, but one that got him into worst trouble the most often; was his curiosity about the Void and the Creator, and many of his fights and scars are the result of him asking too many questions or asking the wrong questions, that were interpreted as heresy or dangerous. His mentor and the people around denied him the chance to learn more about the Void, which only fed his curiosity, as he wished to know what they were hiding. Researching the works of the Wandering Wizard and trying to get answers to questions, that he felt no one else was asking, he eventually went to his local priest to push for answers about the Void, the Creator, Aenguls, Daemons and all things that he believed no one else dared to question. He treated the Void like a creature, a place, a power all at the same time, and most notably: he questioned whether the Creator or the Void was the true god of everything. The ensuing argument and fight between them carried on for hours, and Jarvan was getting more and more ludicrous with his questions, asking things like; how does the Void work? Does it exist? Are we in the Void? Questions that he very much knew the priest did not have an answer to. And as the priest kept telling him that he didn't understand what he was talking about and that those questions would be answered within the Scrolls, Jarvan did the unthinkable, and as the priest told him to go and turned his back: Jarvan struck him down in frenzy and frustration. Realizing what he had done, he was very quick to flee the land and run as far into the wilds as he could. Asking himself, the Creator and even the Void why he did it and what he would do next. After days of travelling in the wilderness, struggling to survive; he finally made his mind and answered his own questions: the Void is above the Creator. The Void is the true power, light and darkness. And he would be the one to uncover its secrets.
