You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

As I step into the tattered tent, I feel a sense of discomfort. The swampy air, the dim surroundings, and the stench of rotting wood and moss all remind me of the ghettos of my youth. Nevertheless, I am intrigued by the old hag's words. How could she have been expecting me? I take a seat on the cushion and study the old hag. Her appearance is unsettling, but I sense a power within her that cannot be ignored. "Well, my name is John the Jeweler," I begin, "and I'm just passing through this town on my travels. I'm a jeweler by trade and I've been seeking out new opportunities for my craft." The old hag studies me for a moment longer before nodding her head slowly. "Ah, yes, John the Jeweler," she says, "I've heard of your skill with precious stones and metals. But you're not just here for business, are you?" I swallow hard, unsure of how much I should reveal to this stranger. But her knowing gaze compels me to speak the truth. "No, I'm not just here for business," I admit, "I'm on a personal quest to find a rare and precious gemstone. It's said to have healing properties and I believe it could save the life of someone dear to me." The old hag nods again, her eyes gleaming with understanding. "I see," she says, "well, you've come to the right place. This town may be dingy, but it holds many secrets. I can help you in your quest, but be warned, the journey will not be easy." I nod, grateful for her offer of assistance. It seems that fate has led me to this strange and mystical place, and I am determined to find the gemstone and save the life of my loved one.
