Colony Name: Eadn [Eden]
First Planet Type: Small, 2 continents, 60% water
History: (Assuming it's a bit of a custom nation.) In the year 2077, the House of Saud and House of Al Nahyan married combining the nations of the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Not soon after that, the Royal House of Jordan agreed to form a Union with the new Islamic Kingdom. Under this new kingdom, capitalism was encouraged as beautiful cities sprung up throughout the desert. Cities like Dubai and Jeddah inspired mankind as buildings reached toward new heights with the first mile-high building being completed in Dubai in 2081. Upon hearing of the oncoming disaster, the Saud-Al Nahyan house, underneath Sultan Khalifa Saud-Al Nahyan, commissioned it's greatest engineers and scientists to build the ultimate ark - a paradise to survive in space. The problem with such a design... the Saud-Al Nahyan ark carried only 60,000 instead of the typical 100,000~, the global average. The selection process for this ship was rather simple: Wealth and intelligence determined admission to the spacecraft. 5 years prior to the launch of the arks off the planet, the government issued a test in all schools which measured IQ and practical skills - especially knowledge of engineering, agriculture, and the Islamic faith.
This test provided for the first 18,000 passengers on the ship. Those who scored the best would get on board, and these students could not be older than 21. After that, the remaining 42,000 were selected based upon profession. A large number of engineers were selected, several chemists and biologists were selected (including a large campaign to bring Islamic scientists and engineers who did not live in the Saud-Al Nahyan Arabic state to join them on the journey through money incentives and the promise of the best technology money could by). Aside from that, all young members of the Royal Houses were placed on board the ship. Interestingly, the Kingdom also invested a heavy amount of money in acquiring physical copies of many histories from all parts of the world, as well as artifacts to put on the ship. There was great debate as to the removal of the Kaaba from Mecca and placement onto the ship with the debate raging well into the final year prior to exodus. Ultimately, it was decided that Allah meant for the Kaaba to be on Earth and removing it would be disrespectful. Those who remained on Earth would be able to be close to the Kaaba and pray to Mecca, rather to the stars, in their final days.
