THERE CAN BE NO GREAT NATION WITHOUT ITS HEROES. The birth of modern chivalry is Imperial, dated to the birth of the Order of the Lion in that First Empire that has so ascended to myth. The histories tell of our Exalted ancestor granting their great generals lands as large as kingdoms, their favored soldiers stout keeps in the riverlands and tall towers in the mountains. Thus began the age of the nobility, and a vision beyond the Bakery-Queen of Salvus and the Nomad-King of Seventis.

This age has persisted nearly four centuries, and in that time we have seen its true sin; that in hoping to preserve the greatness of family names, just as many truly worthy individuals have been stoppered before they could begin, their legends stifled in the crib. The Commonwealth was founded upon ideals beyond the name of a House and its past territories, claimed in the present by hedonists and locusts. In this tome is honored the river-knights past and present, those that have built for themselves a legacy and for Our nation a greater future.

Thus Our deliverance thereafter is the legacy of the Founders of the Republic.

Returned to Oren at the head of a band of errant knights and retainers, leading the suppression of the Mardonlands as a Harvest general. Founder and signatory to the first Constitution of the Commonwealth. Built Castle Moere as tensions grew with the Alstionites before making treaty in 1892. Granted expanded powers and the Archduchy of the Petra by edict of the Secound Round Table, 1893. Died from festering wounds, 1894. Called Fairweather for the ease of victory by his side.

Firstborn of Victor Clement Halcourt de Vanderfell, cousin to Evangeline, the Baroness of Artois, and Laurens, the Baron of Artois. Knighting ceremony conducted by Maude Fredericka as Countess of Mardon. Chief writer of the founding Constitution of the Commonwealth. Appointed to the First Round Table. Chanzle of the Commonwealth. Second Grand Master of the Order of the Petrine Laurel. Resigned due to conflict of interest when Acreman in-laws began posturing against the Kingdom of Balian, and was granted the holdfast and village of Brasca for his service, named after a bridge constructed by his wife Yvaine's family. Called the Bridgebuilder for his aptitude in diplomacy and mustering disparate groups into a unified force of will and in honor of the symbology of Brasca Bridge.

Loyalist commander in the Petran Civil War and part of the Band of Nineteen. Called Pie-Eyed for the roundness of his sole eye upon return from battle and from his journeys as though in a mystic trance, and his near-miraculous ability to retain his depth perception and swing at the right moment.

Appointed to the Second Round Table. Was granted the keep of Montalt for his service. Married Dame Maude of Mardon. Head of the household guard of Renilde Helena, Archduchess of the Petra. Famously good with money, raised thousands of mina for the Commonwealth coffers. Appointed to the Second Round Table. Designed the village of Summerhall and plans for the development of the outer reaches of the valley. Died protecting the Archduke, 1892. His surviving sister was granted the holdfast and village of Summerhall for his service. Called the Gallant for his boldness in battle, and for giving his life for the Commonwealth.

In the aftermath of the Harvest Revolution, was raised personally as ward to Paul Salvian as ‘Matilda of Mardon’, hidden to avoid the massacre of the nobility in the era. Was rehabilitated to the County of Mardon following the formation of the Commonwealth. Signatory to the first Constitution of the Commonwealth.  Knighting ceremony conducted by Paul Salvian as Archduke of the Petra immediately upon allowing landed nobility to enter the Order. Married Sir Paul of Montalt. Loyalist soldier in the Petran Civil War and part of the Band of Nineteen. Called the Missed for having been passed over in the Royalist succession, and then taken by and the first to be raised as a Petran.
