  4. The night was quiet, soft and calm upon that pale autumn eve. The winds whispered along the dwarven hills, the elven woodlands sleeping amongst the wavering trees. All was still, the moonlit veil reflecting the stars above upon the deep waters below, waves lapping against the shores in a wordless anticipation for what was to come. And high atop a white spire, amidst the white marble columns and walls of basalt stone, there convened an octuplet of wisemen consigned to the enactment of a potent liturgy. Each set themselves amidst the gilded ring, deep within the marble hall, the veil pulled ever-thin as each of them attuned themselves to the immensity of the unknown. Now, a great and hollow rift began to bud amidst the gilded frame, revealing a window to the eldritch nothingness that consumed all things. The howling of wind was heard, and then what was like the crack of a whip or crash of lightning against the hollow air, the great fissure beginning to expand outwards in a crescendo of pale, yet radiant arcane light. The air grew colder, the fissure expanding to each of the furthest reaches of the ring, as each of the magi began to slowly lift from the stone earth, hovering above as if held up by invisible strings. Another crack amidst the air, and a great beam of amaranthine light jetted upwards into the sky illuminating the nighttime veil as nature itself went silent. Then, the light faded, receding into the white spire from whence it came, leaving the realm plunged into quiet darkness yet again. Something archaic had been wrought upon the earth. But whether foul or fair, not tongue can yet tell...

Nada. But I think best way around the issue is to save the originals and make copies. Put the copies in the bookshelves incase they poof one day.

To add on to @WestCarolina's comment, if you need to put some books out that are Copy of a Copy(or really important like ST signed books) you can put the in a lectern instead.

  6. I'll give some of my own thoughts here (not the STs), because frankly I don't believe that firearms should be possible on LOTC. I'm not going to argue that it breaks immersion or disrupts the theme, because LOTC has become it's own niche at this point and there's no use in hiding behind "It's a medieval fantasy server" anymore. My qualms with firearms doesn't come down to the lore or the mechanics behind it, rather, how the playerbase has treated, not only the prospect of guns, but other lores in the past - not to mention how horrendously said playerbase has responded to staff and other members of the community just doing their job. But my own personal qualms aside, I do not believe LOTC is at all capable of using this lore responsibly and with good intention. Let's take a look at cannons, for example: ST allowed players to create cannons and bring back some semblance of firearms into the world of LOTC. We had hoped that players would responsibly treat the lore and not abuse it in order to preserve the general goodwill of the server. Alas, such was not the case, and instead we had certain members of the community derive a ship that had fifty cannons on it - to count! This mentality of pushing lore to its utmost limits is among the largest barriers between even hoping to get firearms approved. I'm not pinning this issue on any single player or playerbase by any means. This is a server-wide issue that should be addressed if anyone wishes to push the lore beyond what already is. If you want guns, prove that you are competent enough to handle what you already have, and then maybe, just maybe, the boundaries can be relocated. But considering players struggle to even roleplay crossbows right, I cannot possibly imagine the idea of guns being roleplayed, because even as "reskined crossbows", we all know that's not how people will treat it.
  7. Question: what's the purpose of rewriting this if the current lore already stands as valid and does not have any glaring problems?
  8. I hate lore. I hate magic. I hate this server. @Witchlore
  9. Will fix this for greater clarity. It's typically until the end of the encounter unless they are aroused otherwise, though once the encounter has ended it's typically up to the victim to decide. Agreed, though this should hopefully address some of the other issues until the full rewrite or a larger amendment can be submitted for the piece.
  10. Amendment to Necromancy The following amendments seek to modify the current necromancy lore to be more viable and sustainable to roleplay. As the lore was passed under the Flamboyant era, many of its mechanics were harshly restricted due to the criteria at the time. While a rewrite for necromancy may be necessary to fully rectify the issues at hand, this piece will hopefully tide over some of the more glaring issues regarding the lore. For one, the matter of active engagement in conflict is addressed through the craving amendment, incentivizing necromancers to actively drain mortals in order to survive. Secondly, Darkening has also been amended to allow for aesthetic and combative clarity that was not touched on in the original lore post. Slotting Necromancy becomes a four slot magic as opposed to a five-slot magic, allowing characters more variation in their abilities, aesthetics, and their casting. Necromancers will be able to take on any Arcane or Miscellaneous magics such as fire evocation, conjuration, kani, etc., though are unable to harbor connections to deities or practice magics requiring a pure soul. Additionally, upon becoming an Archlich, necromancy becomes a three-slot magic as opposed to a four-slot, in alignment with their Arcane Affinity ability. Craving Necromancers, bearing a fissure devoid of lifeforce within them, must continuously sate their ravenous hunger for raw life-essence. This requires that the necromancer actively drain mortals in order to sustain themselves beyond the scope of mortality, as otherwise they will become gaunt, weak, and lethargic should they not consume the lifeforce of a mortal within the span of one IRL week. At this stage they will suffer from persistent illness, mental deficiency, lack of concentration, and other such afflictions. Should they go yet another week without draining a mortal, they will be rendered at the strength of an enfeeble old man, having much of their mind subdued in favor of a vicious hunger for any lifeforce. Each mortal possesses two units of lifeforce on average, and will be rendered unconscious upon fully draining one unit. Upon draining two total units, the individual will shrivel up as if dried and will perish. Attempting to drain lifeforce from another necromancer to sate one’s own hunger will result in the victim necromancer losing their own sating lifeforce. Darkening Darkening is a wicked, albeit primary instrument of Necromancy which embodies the occult desire to consume, a tool of heretical sects and malignant guilds handed down from ages passed. This vile testimony to the dark remains a staple of the necromancer’s power, permitting them to tear lifeforce from the living and sew it among the dead.
  11. Truth be told, I think that's more so an RP issue than one to be addressed in OOC. While it's good to promote inclusion and acceptance of all individuals no matter their sexuality or preference, all we can really do as a community is strive to uphold that precedent of acceptance regardless of how others might try to degrade it. On the matter of transgender characters, there are not really means of actually transitioning in roleplay, however, that does not necessarily mean that transgender characters are disallowed or out of the question. For example, take @MissAnneDrey's character who actively is gender dysphoric and reasonably plays the consequences of being such in the time period. I would go so far as to encourage more of such characters existing, as it creates a far more unique and expressive narrative where one must actively foster their personality in secret rather than be outed and accused. If a person wants to play a transgender character, go for it! All I'm saying is that one should be mindful of the current roleplay climate of the server. RP should remain RP, and the more OOC restriction that is brought in, the more and more such conflict will be drawn into OOC. Simply my two cents.
  12. Happy Memorial Day, LOTC! With Lore Games finally over and the world once again populated with all assortment of magic and mystery, many have been taking another look at the lore accepted under the tumultuous administration of Flamboyant and questioned whether or not they should be reworked to accommodate for more roleplay-friendly interactions with both the magic itself and regular players. Among the largest of these, at least in my view, is that of Necromancy, which has undergone several large revamps since its introduction in Aegis. It has been a rather unstable topic of debate and has many glaring flaws which have not yet been addressed. This is something I intend to amend, seeing as the current community has stagnated and thus left an opportunity to carry out a more solidified and engaging rewrite that both addressed past problems and adds content that can be enjoyed by more than a handful of people. With this also comes the matter of undead, whether they be ghouls, liches, or darkstalkers, as well as interactions with mundane players. One of the largest problems with old undead, from what I’ve gleaned, was the inability to do anything more than murderhobo and ascend the ranks, before inevitably falling stagnant after boredom due to either lack of promotion or failure to capitalize on success. Though I have a few ideas as to the amending of these issues, I also highly encourage your own thoughts and ideas to be presented. I’m certain there are many players who may be skeptical of the magic’s success as a whole, which is fair considering its rather volatile streak of activity and inactivity. It has died out numerous times in the past, in part due to poor leadership, poor lore, or both. However, the magic holds rather dear to me and to many communities on the server, and I do believe it is possible to fix it. Therefore, I’m asking the players, whether new or old, means by which this may be done. I confess that I am not as old as many other players who encountered necromancy back in its heyday, which is why your responses are so crucial. This is not something endorsed by ST, but it is something that I myself hope to receive feedback and validation from my fellow ST members. Do keep in mind that with this, necromancy may or may not be what it once was. The system may be changed drastically depending on the responses given, though I am confident that such a system will be for the better should it embody proper critique. Ideally, this will be the one rewrite to finally solidify necromancy in LOTC cannon indefinitely, or at least for a good while. If you do not feel comfortable responding on the forums, you’re more than welcome to PM me via discord (pundimonium#9142). If you have other thoughts, I would be more than happy to hear them. All I ask is that your responses be thoughtful and give reasoning. Quality responses with valid reasoning will be more highly prioritized as opposed to less thoughtful responses.
  13. While there are currently no self-teach spell-books available, I would suggest seeking out an evocation self-teach altar which exists in game and making an /sreq to interact with it. These can be found in various parts of the map and will often indicate that you must contact the ST to interact with it. Let me know if you have any questions!

  15. Regardless of the other qualms with transfiguration, my biggest gripe is the fact that you require an entire two slots of magic to allow Voidal Magic any permanent effect on the world around it. Without transfiguration, the most you can do with Voidal Magic is flavor cantrips and DnD spell slinging, making it a rather bland magic otherwise with minimal potential for interaction. I personally think it would be ideal to open up Voidal enchantment, though not transfiguration as a whole, to the general player base. Not saying they need to have the ability to make large enchantments, but I think it would be much more beneficial for them to perform flavor enchantment without need for yet another few magic slots of dedication. Just my take.
  16. Fantastic work, genuinely. I have only joined rather recently in the grand lifespan of the server and was not present for much of its early history. However, seeing this video has really enkindled a sense of nostalgia I never really had. Its made me to realize how much we've really grown so much as a community, which itself speaks quite highly of our playerbase. Though we have our arguments, our ups and downs, I genuinely believe that the formation this server has received is unlike that of any other. Thank you for this opportunity to glimpse into what once was. It's certainly inspired me to take on the future of this server more eagerly. (Also between PotC and LotR, you chose some amazing soundtracks :))

  18. 1. If you don't have an available vessel or pygmy upon consuming the Juliet potion, then it is a PK. Obviously, if you are a non-Tawkin user who is forced to drink the potion, you would not have to PK. 2. If you willingly learn the knowledge but choose not to apply it, it is still a PK. Someone obviously can't shout it and you and PK you because you "heard of it".
  19. Forgot to post my results. Ironic, I'm a Toxposter.
  20. LOTC Magic Political Compass Test This is something I did for fun, though also with some sense of seriousness in mind. In particular, this survey was inspired by @Jentos's post (you can find it here) where he offered some incite and aroused some criticism as to the issues with a lot of magic on LOTC. While this is hardly as serious or thought-provoking, it does give a bit of insight as to some of the players' beliefs on the state of magic and lore on the server. Keep in mind that if you want to accurately reflect your own opinions, the questions should be answered with truthfulness, though I do ask that you take this with some degree of seniority as I am interested in seeing the community's overall views on the matter. This particular compass has been modified from the original, replacing each end of the spectrum with different directions which are expanded upon briefly below: Toxposter: The modified Libertarian end, generally encouraging more openness with magic and freeformity. Toxposters often advocate for more flavorful and diverse applications of magic and lore as opposed to more practical. They rarely believe in cliques and are oftentimes charged with poorly teaching magic as a result of giving it to a new player right off the bat. Philpost: The modified Authoritarian end, generally holding the belief of restricting magic to cliques and ensuring more quality over quantity. Philposters are prone to encouraging more niche and narrative-based applications as opposed to a variety of incoherent themes. They are of the mind; "If it isn't broken, don't fix it", and are less inclined to report incidents of abuse unless it directly insults them. Edgelord: The modified Economic Right end, composed primarily of dark mages and villains, or otherwise antagonistic characters. Edgelords can be anything from chaotic evil sorcerers and lichee to cunning and crafty vampires who have woven their way into the courts. They often take on the villain role because they believe that villainy is necessary for a good story and wish to fulfill that role. Wholesome: The modified Economic Left end, composed primarily of more wholesome and slice-of-life roleplayers, along with the occasional protagonist holy mage. They are oftentimes Suticans or Housemages who would prefer a quiet roleplay session under the moon with their elven fiancé than exploring an abandoned crypt or ruined fortress. Again, this is done for the sake of fun and nothing more. Please do not use this as a means to poke fun at any members of the community. If you do have legitimate points regarding the state of magic or lore on LOTC, I suggest you take such to a more appropriate post as they may get lost quickly in here. Finally, I encourage players to share their results on the test below as well! Now without further ado, good luck! Here is the link: https://www.compasshub.xyz/quizzes/351/responses/new (also credit to @Sri and @IsaaKcfor the idea)
