Reading the above, is super grating and really fucks up the flow of your writing. Also try to 'tell' your readers less and 'show' them more. Telling readers what your character is wearing is boring and knowing the colour or material of a character's clothing isn't necessary to further your narrative or develop your character. Try to only briefly describe what a character is wearing or 'show' what they are wearing by how the character or clothing interacts or is affected by the environment. Just my two cents from reading your writing.

((I do not mind this critique. I just made that when I was incredibly tired.))

  2. Hello! I'm Kevin (otherwise known as TheDragonsRoost) and I read your post, seeing a lot about your roleplay experience here. I hope to talk to you on Discord and be friends with you!
I mainly roleplay as Karren Myrsta (High Elf), Kayen (High Elf),and Sorelis Daevear (Dark Elf) on my main acc.

  3. Spoiler

    Born of Death,

    Shaken by Tragedy,

    Forged by Phoenix Fire,

    Time had begun.

Karren had woken up from his two year slumber and in his disarray, he had found his leather book that he had created long ago to research the magic of Balance and with it, he began to crack down on the mathematical barriers to the Energy Source. While he did so, he had moved out of his house in the High Elf District and moved into the main district of the Dominion of Malin, though Karren had wondered about what that man said about missing Time.

Thus began more and more research with very little sleep and eating...

That's... Really not the best way of looking at things. Each staff team has their own focus and different duties than the others, meaning your experience with one team rarely will assist you much with another team. Even with teams that are more connected you should join because you're interested in the work they do. That's typically what team leaders look for, members motivated properly because those players often work harder and stay on the team longer than someone just wanting a boost into another team.

If it is GM that you're most interested in you actually don't need any staff experience to become one. As long as you feel you've got enough experience with the server and know the rules well enough I'd say just fill out a GM application.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind being a Lore Librarian, Et Actor, and/or a GM if I get the chance. Sorry for the short reply, but I have only been up for an hour and I still feel a little fatigue.

Although I'm sure it'd be awesome to have you as an LT member, I'm not sure if you're experienced enough with the server, 2-3 months on the server and already applying for the LT team is a big mistake in my opinion. Maybe ET or FM would do, but not LT for sure.

I've applied for ET Actor and I'm just trying to get into the various teams to gain some staff experience before heading into Game Moderator.

How long have you played on LotC?

             Since July 16th, 2018

How many hours per day/week are you available?

3-5 on weekdays, 5-6 on the weekends.

Have you worked on the Lord of the Craft Wiki, or any wiki before?

I have created my own wiki pages for my own roleplay server "World of Agoroth" before, though I have no issue with learning more and wiki editing/writing.

Do you have a solid grasp on the existing lore of our server? Do you believe you'd be able to summarize these pieces in a concise manner?

For the two plus months I've played on Lord of the Craft, I feel like I'm gaining traction on the lore of the server and how it all works, though again, I'm open to learning more. The only lore I've gotten a decent grip on is the Evocation magic of Voidal (mostly electrical evocation) and the Elven race lore.

The most concise manner, I'd have to say, is that electrical evocation works just like how you would creating and conducting electrical energy (electricity) through one's body like a insolated copper wire with the use of Voidal Energy (or Mana). You can move the energy in a given direction and with enough applied focus, you can send either a small spark or a blast of lethal energy through someone's body. The caster (conductor, in other words) is left with the physical strength being siphoned away and also have to deal with the recoiling effects of using voidal magic, such as Exhaustion. Basically, electrical evocation (or any magic user in general) runs just like an engine in a car would when not properly taken care of.

Another concise manner, I'd assume, is that the Elven race is cursed by Iblees to be infertile past a certain age (roughly 500 years of age), but also blessed with a long life by the angels. They, though being "immortal," can also go insane by one thousand years of age and die, however there have also been exceptions to such a rule when it comes to those who have lived beyond the thousand year mark. There are the Mali'fenn (Snow Elves), Mali'ker (Dark Elves), Mali'thill (High Elves), and Mali'ame (Wood Elves) as the subtype of elven characters that can be played.

Do you have any creative writing experience?

This is not really a hard to question as I have a lot of creative writing experience!

I'm currently writing "Fractured Worlds" by Blaze Hellfire, which is a dark fantasy/ alternate reality fiction book in the "Lord of Creation" book series. I also have been writing a lot of creative writing such as poems, songs, and other book series like "The Draconian Chapters," "The GodSlayer," and other such books. I'm also looking to expand my creative writing abilities on Lord of the Craft as a Lore Librarian as well as ET Actor so that I can produce more higher quality roleplay and published works.

  8. Waking in a strange Realm is always shocking, but to Karren Mrysta, he was met with the complex thing in the world.

He woke in a strange field of wheat on an endless plain, stretching from horizon to horizon where Time had little meaning. He was dressed in garb that seemed to be completely white as if it represented his purity of the soul and he felt like these plains had meant a lot to him as if the field of wheat meant the potential he had as a person instead of just a High Elf. With this, he did not understand what has happening until he began to notice someone else in the field of wheat with him.

A man walks up to Karren, seemingly around the same age as Karren, wearing robes of a vibrant astral blue color with a golden trim in his cloak. He also has a black tunic with black pants and he also wears hard leather boots, however it seemed to Karren that this man looked like a High Elf, though not really. Karren wasn't sure who this stranger was, but he did have a familiar feel to him as if somewhere in Karren's mind, he knew him. Perhaps he had read about him from someplace?

"Hello, Karren Myrsta," the stranger said to Karren. "Welcome to the Far Glade."

Karren was speechless, but he would remain speechless for a time as the dream would seemingly take a long time before it would allow him to speak. What seemed like a half-hour of silence, Karren found his voice and spoke up. "Why am I here?"

"Because there are mysteries that need solving, Karren. The Primal Schools of magic aren't to be tested, but however, in my Realm, I can tell you the only thing that your missing." the stranger told Karren. "You're missing Time."

With that, Karren suddenly woken up and the world took a moment to snap into view as he felt like he slept so hard that he slept for two years...

  9. "Hopefully we will all live to see the morn once the Prince is gone. These forces sound alarmingly vague, but I will do what I can to learn more about these forces..." a elven man in a hood would say as he pondered over the note while also looking over the world of Atlas from where September's tree is... "Before the Dark encloses over all of Atlas."

    You're motivated… that's a big +1 in itself.

    Some well meant critique:

    The Crown Event
It is indeed a fascinating idea, clearly inspired by Aesopians great events. Yet, we do not need Idea-machines on the team. We can come up with such ourselves, or often use lore that is already available to us. In your Event 'concept' there is not much specified. It is creative, yes!, but does it suit to a large scale event?
    Ask that yourself.

    Elder Made Event

Trees, No trees! I must admit, making something appear and seeing how players react to it in a more or less random environment is very exciting, yet many players will not except such. Often times such events have no longevity, or any substance. Players could just be working to get rid of it, or see it as a quick measure to get loot. Still, the idea of maintaining weekly rewarding events is not too farfetched, and a strong point in your app!

    Dungeon Events

This is a tough one! A random event set in a dungeon environment is destined to fail. It will simply be too much of a burden for you as an event actor alone. You did not mention teamwork or perhaps having the support of others players in the event. Simply loading it with puzzles andor jumpquests will result in it being a one-shot sort of thing, where players, and most definitely you will lose motivation. But don't fret, you might not know these complications at first… now you know!

    The other Events
All trough out your application, your creative writing skills shines trough. It also seems that you like planning ahead, perhaps scheduling an event for each day of the week! This is very much a good start, and probably what every Event Actor should strive to achieve. Still, I think more RP can help you figure out what players truly like. Try to lay your focus on roleplay and actually read trough the lore. I'm sure with your writing skills and the great compendium of lore LotC has you will make a superb staff member. For the next app, try to keep it simple and plain, yet intriguing and roleplay driven.

Heads up and Good Luck on your next application!

I'm glad that you enjoyed reading my events through my app and really love my creative writing abilities (not to mention my willingness to plan ahead for each day of the week), but mostly the concepts are samples in the original post, though the main thing I'm interested in doing as an ET Actor is make new storylines and questlines alongside with World Events to make it all interesting.

In my signature, it says that I'm the author of my own fantasy book series "Lord of Creation" and the first book in the series "Fractured Worlds" and this is meant as no joke. I've read fantasy books since I was in elementary school, reading the Fablehaven series, Talon Series, Young Elite Series, Harry Potter Series, and many dystopian books such like the Unwind series by Neal Shusterman. All of this has inspired me to write alternate reality fantasy books with magic, Gods, Demons, Angels and the such. Lord of the Craft is no different in the way it has inspired me to keep writing and forge ahead with making new ideas and concepts to the ever-expanding world of Atlas and the ever-expanding character dynamic of the world.

I feel like my skills as an author would greatly benefit the ET as I do endlessly strive to create stories of suspense, action, and full of emotional-evoking situations. As I also said, I wouldn't be working alone in my events and my stories that I'd help to create. I would always have the ET Actors and the ET Builders to talk to and see what everyone can and cant do as I feel like working as a team is what makes the story come alive.

So, cheers for the +1 and I honestly hope that I can be accepted as an ET Actor so that I may work alongside you all and help make my mark on the world of Atlas!

  11. A notice was swiftly delivered by a white owl to the Silver Council and to all of the Silver City...

    "To Whom It May Concern,
Upon hearing of the news of the intent of Arelion and his wife resigning, I announce my wishes that they cease this resignation as I believe them to be capable leaders of the Silver City. I may no longer be a citizen of Okarn'thilln, but I keep my focus on the people I care about. This includes Arelion and Vanya Laurir'ante.

I shall make my way to the Silver City in the next few elven days as I wish to make the trip once more to my homeland and see the fruits of their endless labor for the People of Okarn'thilln.
    Sincerely,
    Karren Mrysta."

  12. Congratulations Malgonious and Treatycole for becoming ET Actors and those mentioned for ET Builder! I myself have applied for ET Actor and I hope that with my creative writing ability, I can make new storylines, questlines, World Events, and even Random Events for the playerbase to enjoy. I also hope to work with you guys in ET with these projects as I wish to be a part of a team rather than a team leader.

Anyways, congratulations and I hope to see these Event Zones in action!

  13. Time. It is the endlessly complex force of all of Creation that cannot ever be killed or destroyed.

But somehow, it can be manipulated.

Karren Myrsta had met his biggest fan of the club called the "Grand Undying," a mysterious club that centers around Karren Mrysta and his research into Balance Magic, a magic that transcends the magics of Voidal, Deity, and Dark, in the Dominion Square. Somehow, this biggest fan of his seemed to be knowledgeable of his past and what Karren would not realize was that this encounter would trigger a loop in Time where his biggest fan and himself were trapped in. Not even Balance Magic could manipulate this loop, but this had prompted Karren to delve back into his research into Balance Magic and keep trying to obtain this magic, but however that alone has come with dark costs.

Once Balance Magic was released into Atlas by Karren Mrysta, he would not realize that researching such a powerful force of magic would place a curse upon his bloodline that would last all the way until the End of Time. For every firstborn child of his bloodline, they would slowly become a Balance Elemental and cannot revert back into Descendant form for extended periods of time.

The Myrsta Bloodline would be cursed once Balance Magic was released. Starting with Karren Myrsta's own firstborn and the curse would not manifest until the child themselves achieved the highest possible tier in Balance Magic.

    Balance is Forever.

    ---

"Sir, the boy's timeline has fluctuated!" a strange voice would say out into the depths of the Transcended Realms.

A man in black robes and silvery hair with Emerald Green eyes would come walking towards the sound of the voice. He would seem to be extremely powerful, too powerful for the world of Atlas. He'd begin to speak with a neutral tone to the strange voice "How did it fluctuate?"

"A strange wood elf spoke to him. It seemed to accelerate his timetable for researching the magic of Balance by at least a few elven weeks." the strange voice would reply. "Should we allow this change?"

"Let it stay. If the Prince causes any more damage to Atlas, the boy will need the magic. Especially if it can grant him the ability to forge godslaying weapons." the black-robed man would say and then the scene would fade to black.....

I will reiterate my support for thedragonsroost. He has provided everything you'd want in an event with his outlines. Suspense, tension, action. (Even awesomeness!). He even uses pre-established lore instead of using the dreaded ET lore! He is passionate and will become one of the best ET ever, I am sure!

    Grimreaper98

I'm glad that you are willing to give me such positive support, GrimReaper. I sincerely hope to make my mark as an ET Actor with storylines, quests and even repeatable minigames in roleplay for everyone to enjoy.

  15. A Note for the ET:

The events I have on my application are not the only things I'd do as an ET Actor. As a writer for young adult fantasy, I have a lot more ideas in store so the events "The Autumn Crown," "Elder-made," and "The Book of Fate" are not my only ideas. A lot of people who'd view this application are going to be -1'ing me due to my playtime alone, but the reasoning for why I'd apply for staff so soon is because I am inspired by the playerbase of LotC and even feel encouraged to try and apply for Event Team, Game Mod, Application Team and the various other teams.

As such, I'll be writing out three more conceptual events for my application.

    The Dungeon - Random Event

For thousands of years, many people have built their cities and their keeps atop the ruins of the past. However, legends tell of a dungeon laden with riches in its various chambers. A group of intrepid adventurers, with the help of a scholar, find a book that details where the dungeon is and what lays inside from the Great Library of Dragur and go in search of this dungeon. However, many secrets lie within the dungeon and it can turn perilous if not prepared. Monsters, Dragons, and ancient warriors lie within the dungeon that serve as the protectors of the riches of the dungeon. Legends also foretell that even if you made it past the protectors, you would have to solve puzzles of intricate, but yet simple, design. What lay inside the dungeon may prove to be valuable and fun for all. The choice is yours if you and your friends wish to brave The Dungeon.

    - This event is meant to be a group minigame that lasts every week with fun prizes for the people who complete it.

    - No requirements in order to play.

    - Random prizes for those who go in and complete the dungeon to partial or full completion.

    - Not much combat involved.

    - Can have any amount of players in one team to go into the Dungeon. (1+ people)

The World Festival - Random Event

Everyone loves to enjoy festivals to let go of the problems of the outside world. Rides, games, shops, and even fun little halflings to run around and spread the kindness and silliness to all people. Under the direction of the mysterious Ringmaster, many of the Atlas' residents can come and enjoy the fun festivities. Towards the end of the Elven Year, the World Festival will hold snowman building, snowball fights, and everything related to the cold winter season!

    - This event is a minigame-orientated random event that can be played every elven month.

    - Fun prizes for all people to enjoy from the various games.

    - This event is based off of DaddyHayley's own "Festival of Recollection." Original idea goes to her.

    - All people are welcome! No one is excluded!

The War of Gods - Questline/World Event

September rages. A people united. The gods have awoken.

Dangerous foes have begun to stir in their slumber with godlike powers that seem to be even more powerful than September, able to cast powerful spells of Voidal and Dark magics thought impossible. Only one force in Atlas can stop these foes from ever waking up and that is the Descendant forces of Atlas. Masterful magics, siege weapons, and high powered weaponry have a place in the Descendant forces, but there is one weapon that can truly help the Descendant forces. Well, more or less an armory, full of god-killing weapons. Ranging from swords to magical weaponry, all of them are enchanted with powerful enchantments that can harm godlike entities.

(This world event has a questline attached to it to make it a bit more enjoyable to the playerbase. The overall goal of the questline is to obtain the weapons and learn more and more about the gods that have begun to wake. Some will even support the Descendant forces, but not all of them.)

    - Meant to be played by all people.

    - Gives an exciting storyline.

    - Adds more interaction between the various groups of magic as well as gives the nonmagic users an equal playing field with the godslaying weapons.

    - No requirements to play.

    - Includes Dungeon RP, Combat RP, PvP, and something for the lorehounds of LotC to gawk at.

    - It's pretty much an "All Hands on Deck" type of World Event.

Essentially, all of my ideas are meant to be played by multiple people and even the entire playerbase though most of them go through the old "Good vs. Evil" recurring theme. I'm not going to be all "you should accept me because I'm this and what I can do," but rather show that I have the writing skill adequate enough to at least be considered for ET Actor. I do hope that I am accepted as an ET Actor, but at the same time, I have to wait and see how it all plays out.

  16. 4 hours ago, Narthok said:

@TheDragonsRoostits good that you have a love for writing but you should take a moment to review your work for cliches and common tropes. Furthermore compare the quality of your writing to more prominent writers on the server like Stigwig or Piov. Your events to me seem firstly incredibly cliche. Furthermore they seem very focused on a singular protagonist rather than having a very broad appeal and allowing many players to engage. Consider that all your events do not need to be conflict and can be oriented more towards random organic events of instances. @Malgonious does a fair job of this. Rather than make these massive story arcs that are going to alienate huge swathes of the playerbase you should consider more scaled down events with the intention of interesting productive rp that helps players develop their characters. Also people on this server absolute despise high fantasy events involving holy warriors and Aenguls because they are always done terribly and do little more than stroke the egos of very small select cliques. You should take some more time developing your narrative skills and perhaps spend a bit more time on the server before running the ET gauntlet.

    -1

I do not disagree with the fact that my events (that are proposed in this application) are incredibly flawed and cliché as they were not created with much thought and were in fact created as mere samples. I do not disagree as well with the point you've said here @Narthok concerning events that involve holy warriors and Aenguls, but as an ET Actor, I plan to deviate from the storyline where holy warriors and Aenguls are concerned and focus on the magic itself and the people who use it. Your basic Good vs. Evil recurring theme is where most of my work lay for questlines, World Events and such.
Also, I wouldn't just write my own events. I'd actually work with the other ET Actors (like Aseopian) and the ET Builders to create events that centers on all players.

  17. 1 hour ago, Mavromino said:

Honestly man I don't think you're ready for ET, at least with the events you propose here. So The Autumn Crown event doesn't make much sense, how does he obtain the crown? "Balance of nature" isn't a good enough explanation of what it does because technically the descendants can be seen as something that upsets nature's balance so would it attack Descendants who do a lot of terraforming and the like?

Elder-made also suffers from issues. First of all what is the tree and why does it just appear in the middle of a city one day? How does it create the games? We don't really have sentient trees unless you count Ents but even then they would have to walk.

Finally,  The Book of  Fate is probably the most flawed and easiest to critique. First off it's way too overpowered as it theoretically can do anything also if someone says "I want The Dominion to never have existed" the ET can't really enforce that. Also this issue runs through all three events and it's how do they all damn work?

    Overall a -1 from me.

I mean I dont mind the critique from this as they are rough concepts of what I'd do as an ET Actor. I appreciate that your honest about these conceptual ideas (even if these wont come to light) and I'm still going forward on a positive note since I'm hoping to try my best to write up a good event.

Please make sure to put the Lord of Creation into your events it would be soooooo cool!

Most likely the Lord of Creation won't be in Atlas as he is portrayed from my books though don't worry as I have ideas aplenty for Questlines, Events, and World Events for LotC and its playerbase. All I ask is for patience while things start to get sorted.

Why should we accept you onto the Team?

As a Young Adult Fantasy writer, I can create stories based in a fantasy setting not to mention make modern magic stories with a blend of fantasy creatures. If I am accepted, I hope to bring some of my creative ideas to life on Lord of the Craft and to its playerbase.

What kind of events do you aspire to create?:

High Fantasy - Knights, Clerics, and magic.

    What makes a good event?

A good event has a decent balance between the Storyline, how enjoyable it is, and how it can unite a people.

Create three in-depth event scenarios. I’m not looking for some prelude or whimsical idea here -- we want an indicator as to your talent and potential to be on the ET. You don’t need to write a word-for-word script, but we want a solid structure and plan as to how you’d organize and carry out an event:

The Autumn Crown - World Event

As the wars raged on between the Descendants and the forces of September, a lone adventurer obtains a mystical artifact known simply as the Autumn Crown. Unaware of its potential, this adventurer shows it to the Descendant forces who then recognize it as an artifact that can be used by a Druid of a high enough caliber to maintain the balance of nature. Upon learning of the Autumn Crown, the forces of September begin to rally to fight for the crown, reigniting the War for Atlas. The player gets to decide how the story goes and which way the fate of Atlas may lie.

    Elder-made - Random Event

A massive tree pops up in the middle of the territory of the Mother Grove and the Dominion of Malin, seemingly erupting out of nowhere. Upon discovery of this giant tree, it doesn't seem be a soul tree like that of a Treelord, but more older than that. It would seem to carry a great deal of knowledge of ages long since past and in turn, creates games every elven week for the descendants to play and learn new things. The player always gets the choice to play the game to full completion, to not play at all, or play it to partial completion. If the player chooses to play, they can receive random rewards for how they completed the weekly game.

The Book of Fate - Quest Series

We are all bound by Fate and our courses are set, but what if there was a mystical object that allowed you to change your own fate or the fate of an entire kingdom? Scattered throughout Atlas lie pages that are told to wield great mystical power over the course of fate for either the wielder or for those around them. Legend has it that these pages also make up the Book of Fate, an ancient book that contains the power to change the course of Time for the world itself. From stopping the Prince from ever waking up to unleashing unspeakable horrors upon the land, the Book of Fate can do it all...except it can only be used once. Once the player finds all the pages and recreates the Book of Fate, they only have one chance to save the world or destroy the Book forever. The choice is up to them.
