  5. The History of Everal, The First City of the Elves By Leyu’Maehr A long time ago the First Race crossed one of the Great Oceans of Aegis to arrive on a beach. This beach was bestowed with a magical power from a long gone time. It let all plant grow abundantly there and in the surrounding areas. The sand there made glass as hard as steel and that which would never break. So when the Frist Race, later known as Elves, planted their magical seeds… Great towering trees grew in their place. Ordinary fire could not scorch these trees, spreading its seeds wherever they went, creating an Empire dwarf all others previously known. The Elves lived inside the trunks of these towering trees, singing to them to help them grow. Then on day many centuries later, an astronomical storm swept across the land, felling the magical trees where they stood. Lightning stroke the exposed Earth, melting the ground and forming pools of lava. Great fire, fuelled by the dark energies of the storm, burnt all of the remaining trees. Only a few kilometres remained. This is where the Elves sheltered during the storm. They named this area Evaral, meaning ‘protected’ in their lost language. They tried to spread the seeds of the magical trees once more, but the Earth still remembered the horrors of the storm and wouldn’t let them grow. And when this area became overpopulated, the Elves started to reach for the sky! The trees grew until they touched the highest planes of the atmosphere and all was at peace once again. The Elves built walls of enchanted wood around Evaral, to protect the city from new predators and spirits that rose with the storm. And then a terrible thing happened. Some of the Elves dissented from this way of life, as wonderful as it was. They became greedy and wanted more land, ores, and resources. One by one the Dissenters left Evaral; preferring the new forests beyond its border. They spread out far across the land, struggling to cope with their new homes. Eventually even they settled down and formed small villages, under no ruler. Some even evolved into other races, forgetting what they left behind. By this time only a few families remained in Evaral, and they did not know what to do. They missed the kinship of the other Elves, so they decided to leave too. But before they left each family took with them a seed from the first tree, which happened to reside in Evaral. This tree was very old and wrought with homes and its spirit was sad too, for it missed the Elves that left. It shed its bark to help the remaining Elves in their journeys, forming impenetrable armour to help the remaining Elves in their journeys. This armour now resides in the Tomb of Evaral, as the First Tree’s spirit reclaimed it. And then none were left in the Evaral. However over the centuries the seed still could grow, but the land never accepted them. Until one day many centuries later, it came in the hands of a young Druid. The great city of Evaral’s location is hidden from the world, but many believe it is still out there. Perhaps one day, a great hero will stumble upon it. And bring it to power once again.
  6. The Ancient Elves By Aedan Once upon a time, long before the beginning of written history, the lands of the wilderness were inhabited by a single race: The Ancient Elves. This race was the first to love in the lands of Aegis. They built incredible structures in the lands of the Niben bay, and its surroundings. The Niben bay was a large body of water lying in the Niben Basin, largely east of the city of Hawkhaven. It lies across the Niben River, splitting it into two parts, and so is technically a lake rather than a bay. The Niben was once occupied by their capital: Garlas Malathar, also known as Nirn Weye vas Cyrod: The White Gold City. This city was, according to the ancient books, the biggest capital in Aegis. The city was filled with complex tunnels and districts with different ambience. They say you could feel one with the city, it was filled with statues of nature, exotic birds and wonderful animals… including Dragons… The Ancient Elves learned how to befriend a Dragon, instead of taming them like most races did. They knew that friendship was stronger than any force in the world. These Dragons shared their knowledge with them, they showed them the basics of energy manipulation that are still used now-a-days. They soon found how to store energy in crystals and use them for many things. They used them to power their entire civilization, giving power and light to their cities. One day, a new Dragonlord took power of the empire. His name was Akron. He was foolish and always wished to have more power. He hated other races and considered them inferior. He soon tried to power stronger crystals for war. The Dragons refused and prevented him from doing so. Akron then called upon the forces of Iblees to drain the dragons’ power. The dragons, foreseeing their end, created the varla stone and powered it with The Dragonfires, sealing the gates to The Nether, and killing themselves… Some dragons remained as statues, petrified, and waiting to be awakened. They will wake up when the right time comes. After the beginning of the First Era, Akron began to damage nature and attempted to enslave other races. This marked the beginning of the Great War which lasted decades. Akron was finally defeated. To the fall of their Empire, humans took the power of the crystals. Their power turned them blind and foolish. They began to kill all survivors of the Ancient Elves and burned their cities to the ground. Some of the managed to escape and survived. Many kings tried to restore their old glory but failed. Without the power of the Dragonfires, they weren’t able to do such thing. They say that if you look closely to the sunrise, you can still see the ruins of Garlas Malathar, waiting to be discovered, and raised once again…
  7. Ruins of Anthos Vol. I - Northern Anthos By Kaelin Maheriel Foreword This new land of Anthos brings us many new wonders and mysteries, perhaps foremost of all being the presence of ruins - irrefutable evidence of one or more ancient civilizations. Despite their mystery, ruins are not an uncommon sight to the well-versed traveller or scholar. Lost Asulon bore ruins throughout its lands - misplaced statues and aqueducts near the Cloud Sanctuary, sandstone ruins in the deserts, ancient Mori’Quessir cave carvings in Malinor and of course the prolific ruins on Adyton island to name but a few. However, aside from these traces, there was little to suggest what caused the downfall of these cultures. Now that we find ourselves in a new land, we are again confronted with unexplained echoes of lost cultures. What caused their downfall? What was the purpose of these structures? Who created them? These are all questions that we are unlikely to ever have a definitive answer to. However, perhaps with time and effort spent on researching and excavating these ruins we can shine what little light we can on the ruins of Anthos. Ruins of Malinor The forests and cliffs of the north hold many treasures beside those of the natural kind. South-West of Malinor, following the path through the hills and glens, can be found a valley of trees with height only rivalled by the mighty boughs of Leumalin and Malinor. Game abounds in these woods, and the sight of these lands causes the wood-elf side of my psyche to sing with glee. However, should you walk these trails at night, one would find their gaze attracted to the roots of the mighty trees. Among the sunken hollows of these pines lie hidden alcoves of carved stone, with small worm-like tunnels in the walls glowing with the ruddy light. Any attempts to determine the source of these lights is made impossible by the presence of metal bars that block the observer’s gaze down the snaking tunnels. What was the purpose of these hollows? Hard to say. Perhaps they were nothing more than points of rest for weary travellers of some bygone empire, but their complexity and detail suggests that they were part of something larger. We must also consider the possibility that these hollows have existed long before the trees that dominate them, and that this forested valley could hide an ancient city. Piles of similarly carved, ancient rubble would seem support this theory, but detailed research and excavation would be needed to yield tangible results. Another, perhaps more pressing point on interest in this valley is the presence of what appears to be an abandoned camp, made from cloth and lumber. The presence of what appears to be a sawmill and numerous tree stumps raise the likelihood that this was a lumber-camp. What is startling about this find is that it could not have been more than a few years old, yet it predates our arrival on Anthos. This potentially ground-breaking discovery could have profound implications for our time here. Is Anthos still inhabited? And if so, by what? The wooden camp bared no resemblance to the ruins of the land and is unlikely to belong to the same culture, but the fact that it was here before us raises many questions. Of course, another theory to consider is that this camp was made by the scouts sent ahead of our exodus to prepare the way. But the positioning of the camp away from any race it could have belonged to is troubling; although clearly positioned near the lands of the Mali it bears resemblance to Valah, Bortu or even Uruk architecture. This mystery is among the most pressing that need to be solved. AMMENDMENT: The ancient lumber camp has since been commandeered by my Mali’ker brethren for use as a town. While I welcome the independence this has brought, many areas of the site have been damaged beyond repair, including the removal of several ornate towers and dwellings. By following the Malinor River to its mouth in the West and looking to the southern cliffs when a southern tributary stream reaches the mouth, a well lit cave can be seen. Inside this cave one is confronted by a series of carved stone brick columns, each with a large glowstone cube set into them. The northern entrance is partially blocked by a fallen column, but it is easily traversible. The cave is well lit by glowing columns, revealing it’s inner architecture. To the south lies a downward passage completely submerged in water and blocked by ruined masonry. My attempts to move some of the fallen rubble out of the way were to no avail, and I doubt that anything beside a full excavation effort could reveal this lost tunnel. To the east is another passage, open but hewn from the rock in a way that suggests that it was left unfinished; no glowstone lamps or pillars light this section of the cave or support it from cave-ins. Aside this eastern passage lies a chamber that is blocked by rubble. After a few hours of hard work I managed to create a workable way in, revealing a rubble-strewn rectangular chamber dominated by a rectangular stone slab. Whether this slab is some kind of altar or a tombstone is unknown. Coming back to the main atrium, a series of rough stairs with brick steps can be seen heading upward towards the light of a cave leading to the open sky, but unfortunately these steps are eroded and unreachable from the atrium. After traversing the outer cliffs I managed to reach the upper cave and found a small series of cliff caverns. Each one bears a glowstone cube similar to the ones in the atrium’s pillars, but set in a haphazard manner. Perhaps this area was next to be embellished before its builders fled? Whatever the truth of this ruin, it is my firm belief that it should be given priority in excavation. Who knows what secrets this place could reveal about those who came before us? There are many other points of interest in the Malinor Valley. By following the Malinor River, many features of culture’s past can be seen, including an exquisite fountain statue on the northern bank that continues to spout water from its hand. Who or what this statue represents is unknown, but the beauteous carvings and obsidian facial features of the ancient visage further add to the sense of mystery. Further from the bank but still on the northern side is a stone circle made from several interlocking arches, thin and made of whitestone covered in moss. Within the circle is a swampy depression that exudes a mysterious green fog, making it hard to distinguish swamp grass from green water. Oddly, another stone circle lies on the south bank, but in a far different style. While the northern circle is made of thin, nondescript arches, the southern circle is made of carved menhirs made of ornate stone blocks and wooden slats. Perhaps more surprising is a roaring fire at the centre of the southern circle, which either suggests that it is maintained by magical means, or that it is maintained by living beings... An Ancient Cloud Temple Perhaps the most fascinating ruin in all of Northern Anthos is a ruin that can only be compared to the spectacular ruined temple of the Mallowlyn Woodlands in Asulon; a massive ruin within the lands of the Anthos Cloud Temple. Upon entering the Cloud Temple lands from the northern gate - a gate which just so happens to lead to the wooded valley I spoke of earlier - heading east will take you to an old wooden bridge that leads to a beautiful ruined courtyard, with water features and a cross-mosaic. Perhaps more stunning is the view above; ruined halls snake their way up the cliff to a massive - and completely intact - ancient tower. Unfortunately, the logical entrance to such a complex, a large circular door, is blocked by rubble. However, upon further searching, a set of stairs snakes up through the ruined masonry and onto a stone bridge that leads to the a tunnel that snakes up to the upper hall. These tunnels remarkably bear the same glowstone cubes that can be seen in the cave colonnade in Malinor. Perhaps they were created by the same civilization? Reaching the hall reveals a beautiful vista to the observer, showing the entirety of the stunning complex below. Sadly, this is where the adventurer’s journey ends; a set of implacable iron doors block the war to the tower itself. No matter how much force I applied to the doors they remained unmoved. Not letting this deter me, I scaled the side of the mountain to peer through the cracks of the tower. Although my view was brief it was wonderous. A marvelous glowstone chandelier runs down the centre of the tower, shining light onto well preserved steps and engraved alcoves. Redstone lamps can also be seen along the walls, creating an air of mystique and ritual. With that in mind I wonder what was the purpose of this place? An ancient fortress? The abode of some ancient mage? Perhaps a temple similar to the one that we have built in the valley below? These are questions that will be in our minds should future scholars decide to investigate this fascinating edifice. Ruins in the Ice Of all the places in Anthos, the frozen lands behind the great Northern ice cliffs are the only ones yet to be explored. Attempts to pick through these ice walls with conventional tools meet with no avail, leaving nothing but scratches. However, due to its glass like transparency, travellers are sometimes able to catch glimpses of the world beyond the ice walls. When gazing through the ice near the Teuton castle in northern Oren one can see an elaborate stone totem, carved with eldritch symbols and baring three menacing skulls. Although offering only a small glimpse into the true North, this sight brings many new questions for us. Who built this totem? The use of skulls in architecture has never been seen in any other Anthosian ruins; such crude symbols are usually signs of a tribal civilization such as the Uruks, and not the advanced culture suggested by the stones seen in Malinor and southern Anthos. Totems such as these are also primarily a warning - indeed the Uruks employ a similar practice to deter trespassers from entering their lands. Are these totems a warning? And if so, were they intended to be seen by travellers peering through the ice. Are we the intended targets of such a warning, or some ancient foe of ages past? Perhaps the apparent tribal culture that the totem suggests was warding off the civilized folk of the south? However, if we are the targets, that brings the possibility that such a culture could exist in seclusion beyond the ice. The thought of an intact and undiscovered culture is certainly enticing, however unlikely. Although this theory may sound outlandish to some, further evidence can be found on a plateau near the ice wall in northern Malinor. On a rocky outcrop overlooking the valley of Oren, hidden behind a hill, lies a ring of carved ruins similar to the stones of the ice totem. Perhaps more disturbing is the sight of a smouldering fire pit and hide tents, with the frosted ground strewn with bones and blood. This chilling scene appears to be some kind of hunting camp, or - if my theory of the ice wall being some kind of isolating barrier is true - a camp for scouts to watch for intruders. As a hunter for nigh on three centuries, the scent of fire still clinging to the embers told told me that it had only been mere weeks since the pit had been lit. If this is true, and this ruin is some kind of scout camp, it’s inhabitants may have fled when we made our presence known in the valley’s below it; perhaps to warn some other tribe on the other side of the ice. Whatever the truth of the matter, this evidence is certainly disturbing. Natural Beauty Although I had promised myself to keep this text on point I find myself unable to prevent myself from describing the wonders of the Spider Cave. Although not specifically a ruin, I find it to be a most profound example of a breed of natural beauty not seen since the now-lost caverns of Menorcress in Asulon. It’s entrance does, however, bear the carved stones seen in other Anthosian ruins. Upon exiting Leumalin from the gate to the Western Docks if one hugs the cliff wall they will find a gaping and glowing cave. Upon entering, one would be greeted by two sights; course black pebbles on the cave floor and and a thick covering of spiderweb on the cave ceiling. Despite any natural reaction of fear one might have from this evidence of a spider infestation, none of my visits have managed to show any sign of current habitation. Past this initial cave can be seen a quite remarkable sight. The cave opens on the lip of a massive cave, covered in mushrooms and vines of all descriptions, but perhaps most striking are the massive luminous mushrooms, headed with sweeping translucent caps that bow towards a beautiful subterranean lake. I would urge any druid or scholar who reads this to visit this sight, as it represents an unique environment quite unlike anything I have seen outside the labyrinthine caverns of Menorcress. AMMENDMENT: Do not travel to this cave without heavy guard! A spider broodmother seriously injured a druid when I led an expedition to the cave and her brood is still in residence. Take extreme caution! Epilogue In my next volumes I shall explore and describe the prolific ruins of the satellite landmass known to most as ‘The Wilds’, a lawless and dangerous region that is host to what have been said to be the most complete and extensive ruins in Anthos, as well as the ruins of Southern Anthos. Until that time, I offer these observations of a simple traveller to the purview of Malinor’s scholars to do as they please. Penned by Kaelin Mahariel, traveller and amateur explorer. 8. The Eldest Brother: A History of Malinor Volume I: The First Sky by Ebs Telrunya, Former Fourth Prince of Malinor ((VonEbs)) Malinor as we know it began after the Collapse, an obscure event which lead to the collapse of any civilization that may have existed before 1300. When one of the symptoms of the Collapse, the erasing of the collective memory of all who survived the Collapse, wore off, High Prince Native banded together what was left of a wood elven colony, as well as the dark elves and high elves in the region surrounding Laurelin. He set about consolidating his position in Laurelin, assisting many elves in setting up lives in the capital. Very few elves are left from this time almost all having gone missing at some point during Aegis, so accounts of the early days are secondhand at best, many times having been passed from pointed ear to pointed ear until reaching the writer. By most accounts, Native picked an array of Princes to help him govern the growing elven population, some notable ones being Prince Toren the Farmer, Prince Flefal the Engineer, Princess Arianna, and Prince Lafthi the Diplomat. The mining paradise of Ravenhold was founded, home to such notable elves as Khel Oussana, Haelphon Adecchio, and future Prince Ebs Telrunya. After the initial years in Laurelin, most of the High Council, including High Prince Native, were barely ever seen in Laurelin, and the Malinor suffered. The Gauntlet, an obstacle course that offered a large minas reward, was opened rarely, and almost every elf immediately entered the Wardens or the Druidic Order upon entry into Malinor. The only functioning part of Malinor's government were indeed the Wardens, the elite defenders of the forests of Malinor. Lead at first by the ruthless Blackthorn, they protected the forests while the High Council squandered away the Princedom. Native's only notable action during this time was nearly destroying Ravenhold when he caused the mine to collapse. When Kal'Bryst was destroyed during the onset of the Undead invasion, the High Council's reaction was nonexistent. During the great northern wars, in which the humans struggled for survival against the undead invaders, the elves hid in the south, with very few participating in the defense of Alstion. The Wardens instead focused on removing Wrath from Wrath's Clutch, an Undead citadel in the South that threatened to cut off Alras and Al'Khazar from Laurelin and Kal'Urguan. Countless wardens and other elves perished in attacks on Wrath's Clutch, which was repeatedly assaulted so that prisoners being held there, most notably Princess Indelwehn, could be freed. No matter how many time the walls were breached, the forces of the United Aegis Coalition (UAC) could not dislodge Wrath until very late in the war. Indelwehn became notable for leading the wardens in the defense of Sanjezel, leading the to the signing of the Malin-Krug pact, a long-lasting defensive treaty between the Holy Princedom and Krugmar, which was signed by Princess Indelwehn and Wargoth Mogroka'Gorkil. Malinor had a token presence in the Verge, its official settlement, overseen by Princess Lirinya, lacking utility and security. More enterprising elves and a few humans united under Viscount Ebs, who founded the city of Fionn, which flourished for a time, until all but the mentally unstable abandoned the Verge during the massive slime and spider invasion. At this time, Laurelin abandoned its old Council Chambers to allow the Mages Guild to have a place to set up away from the unstable north. For a time, Malinor had a High Princess, Sorious, the wife of Native. After her death, the High Council passed a law stating that being the spouse of a Prince does not inherently make you a Prince. Native later fell in love with the owner of the Treetop Inn, which flourished in the trees North of Malinor. The owner, Lirinya, quickly rose to prominence in Malinor, gaining the title of Princess quite quickly. Her down to earth nature and her humbleness disguised that she was Undead. Gaining trust from a besmitten Native, she betrayed Malinor, destroying Ravenhold during the rule of High Princess Indelwehn. With the appointments of Princess Indelwehn and Prince Mylas, a new generation of Elven leaders took the helm of the nation, Ebs, a high elf, and Sythra, a dark elf, convinced High Prince Native to disband the corrupted Wardens, who were being used by the cruel Prince Quazar as an aggressive force, sparking conflict with the other nations. The Vanguard was formed, with Sythra in command. With the appointment of Prince Ebs as High Prince Native's final act, the High Council, guided by the still mostly absent Princes Toren and Lafthi elected High Princess Indelwehn to the highest position in Mainor. They then added then Treelord Haelphon and Sythra to the Council, and removed the Archdruids from the Council, as in that time, the druids grove was a pit of filth and crime, all but sanctioned, and most certainly indulged in by Respiren and Dusk. This was a Golden Age for the elves, as their international power and influence waxed to a point where it could have been argued, after the fall of Al'Khazar, that Malinor was the stablest and most powerful state in Aegis. Unknown at the time of her election was a deep taint hidden in the heart of Indelwehn, installed during one of her stays in Wrath's Clutch. Her second husband, Bircalin, and her friends watched in horror as she changed. It is still not clear if she was aware she was tainted, however, she broke the Malin-Krug pact, refusing to aid Krugmar in their war against Urguan and Oren, and made a series of disastrous mistakes. She attempted to have prince Ebs assassinated for questioning her, however he barely survived, and after a year recovering in Hanseti, he returned when Indelwehn was charged with the murder of a small child. The High Council attempted to cover up her crimes, but realized she had to go, and voted unanimously to remove her, revealing to the public only that she had resigned. In a near tie, Haelphon was elected High Prince, with Sythra losing by one vote. By this point, Prince Mylas had been killed during an Undead attack, and his body had been laid to rest outside the Sister City, a suburb of Laurelin. At this time, the High Council met in the Sister City, as it was too easy to Undead spies to listen in on proceedings in Laurelin. Malinor established good relations with the Kingdom of Renatus after it emerged from the Phoenix Rebellion, but the final days in Aegis were characterized by fear among the High Council. After the falls of both Al'Khazar and Alras, refugees flocked to Malinor. Prince Ebs set up the Alrasian refugee camp East of Laurelin, but the Alrasian officers and Vanguard struggled to keep order in the once peaceful city of Laurelin. During a magical experiment by the druids and mages, Arkelos, and Undead, destroyed the Gauntlet, spreading miasma around Laurelin. As elves prepared to flee the city, the druids managed to restore the air, however the damage was staggering. The High Council, despite the pleading of a few members, refused to build additional fortifications around Laurelin, instead opting to give Deltaro Black, an elf who thought he was much more competent that he actually was, permission to remodel the front entrance to make it more"naturey." Laurelin did not stand a chance in the final battle, and as the dragons leveled the once proud jewel of Laurelin, the elves fled for the Verge, man of which were openly weeping, where they were met by the chaotic conditions, as the elven government has fallen apart. Treelord Alan managed to build an elven ship, but the travel conditions were horrid, and many elves were lost in the voyage. And so the elves set out for Asulon, to brave a strange new world full of dangers they could not have possibly conceived as they left Laurelin. --Ebs Telrunya, Former Fourth Prince of Malinor
  9. Journey of the Elder Seed: Normandor Chronicled by Ithri, High Commander of the Normandor Sentinel, High Council sourced by Prince Bravepaw, Chieftain of Normandor, Prince of Malinor (Bravepaw) transcribed by Elorna Avern, Head Scribe of Malinor This is the story of how the Great Elder Tree of Normandor formed. For generations, a powerful dynasty of Elves held the seed. However this was no ordinary seed, this was an Elder Seed. It is said that of all the great trees in Aegis, only the Elder Seeds could produce the finest and most magical entities. These seeds were tainted by both light and dark magic and would yearn to reside in the heavens but also in the void. The last known holder of this seed was Bravepaw, now chief of Normandor, founder of the Elder Tree. Having little understanding of the seed's power, the gods truly had guided him to unleashing its full potential. Over the long elvish years and with the considerable gaps between generations, the purpose for the seed had been somewhat lost. All that survived was the tradition to pass the seed on to the new eldest son with the simple words, “Light conquers evil, consumes darkness, embraces life and takes root even in the most darkened of places.” Bravepaw had indeed always been baffled by these words, but wore the seed around his neck, instilling in him the protection and guidance of his ancestors. On his father’s deathbed, Bravepaw was told, “When the Void surrounds you, look to our greatest source of light,” with those words passing him into the beyond. The Elder Seed became incredibly sentimental to Bravepaw, he clutched it in remembrance of his father and his fathers before him; it guided him and comforted him, leading him to the beyond. Seasons passed, Bravepaw grew mature and wise. He became very close to his elvish companion Genriel, and formed a strong pact with two elves named Orlanden and Travathian. They eventually came to settle south of Laurelin, in a place called Valenwood. For a while Bravepaw found peace there, but the seed would always distract him and push him, he was never truly at home. Following a peace treaty struck between the Elves and the Orcs, the four companions were given the opportunity to run an Elvish Outpost and have much autonomy. Bravepaw accepted this position in order to expand the frontier of the Elvish power. He always remained suspicious and vigilant of the new Orcish landlords. A price of 50,000 minas was put on the land, Bravepaw set about to gather the necessary funds, the Orcs giving him one week to do so. However, the Orcs in their treachery, arrived earlier than this to collect it. They wanted a reason to ransack the place and remove the Elvish presence. On arrival, Bravepaw had managed to raise the necessary amount and offered it willingly. The Orcs, defeated in their dim-witted plan, turned it down and retreated, attempting to salvage what they would call Orcish pride. Bravepaw decided to take a hunting party to gather food for the outpost. He left two younger elves to pay the orcs on their return. Supplies were running low and this hunt would be critical to their survival. Fate it would seem has a wicked sense of irony. The Orcs were watching; they watched Bravepaw lead his people into the wilds to hunt. They watched the two elves that were left behind and they watched the sun dip behind the mountains until it was day no more. That night the Orcs charged the outpost, slaughtering the two elves, taking the money and setting the place on fire. The outpost had no hope and was scorched from the very surface of Aegis. When Bravepaw returned with his companions, they were met with smouldering ruins, the air thick with smoke, the ground covered in ash. The orcs there told Bravepaw this was the action taken for not paying. Bravepaw used his elvish wisdom to try and reason with them, he had given the opportunity of payment and even left the money. “Cunsidda it compens...compen..compensation”. The Orc growled; looking very pleased with himself for mustering the necessary vocabulary. Bravepaw felt a rage build inside of him; he wanted to strike these foul orcs down now where they stood. He reached for his bow, but something stopped him. He felt the seed beating, beating as if it were his own heart. It calmed him, it filled him with warmth, a vision flew into his head, the void, an island, a distant land, unlike anywhere he had seen in Aegis. Was this to be his home, was his father calling him or was this the magic of the seed driving him insane? He pondered on this for a moment. An orc seeing that his hand had reached for his bow, lunged forward, piercing his dagger into Bravepaw’s chest. His companions gasped, reaching for their swords, fearing the worst. However, Bravepaw had not been harmed. The Dagger struck the seed and the seed had erupted. The orcish metal dissolved into nothing, corruption spread through the body of the Orc, he squirmed and screamed as he turned into Ash, a breeze rolled past, taking with it the orcish ash. The Elder Seed had awoken! The rest of the Orcs seeing the raw power of whatever this was rushed away, leaving Bravepaw and his companions in awe of the events that had just transpired. The Elder Seed was glowing now, it had been given its sacrifice, the glow of the Seed was pulling them, leading them, guiding them. The group would follow its light, to the very end of Aegis if they needed to. They made a pact that day, to never rest until they had found the home the seed was leading them to. The group played their part in the evil times to come, the rise of the Undead and the Torment of Iblees. But this, like many things, is a different story. The companions boarded an Elven Ship on the shores of the verge. The seed had brought them here, evil had driven them here. Throughout all they had suffered the seed still shone bright. It was drawing them across the perilous ocean; it was calling them to Asulon. On reaching the shores of this new land the seed seemed to glow brighter than ever. They knew after all these years, they were close. Bravepaw and his companions were loyal to the Elves. They stayed with them to protect their people until the Elves stopped in what later would become Malinor and where the Elvish City of Elandriel was founded. For a while the seed dimmed, they stood at the foot of the tree the Elves of Elandriel named the Mother Tree, Bravepaw buried the seed here, not understanding what he should do. They remained there for Many elven weeks, a busy bustling city sprung up around them as the Elves settled into their new home and an Elven prince oversaw the creation of a new Elven safe haven. Bravepaw never left the site where he planted the seed at the foot of the Mother Tree. Until one fateful night he awoke. A blinding light erupted from where he planted the seed. The light sent sparks far to the south and he heard a distant explosion. Bravepaw ripped the Seed from the earth. To his amazement, it had sprouted! (The mages of Normandor believe this to be a simple explanation: The seed had simply forgotten how to be a tree. The mother tree reminded it of this, however this will be explained in another Chronicle.) Bravepaw woke his companions and they ran in the direction of the sparks. The Elder Seed glowing brighter than ever before emitting a single melodic tone the closer they got to the site the sparks had landed. They came to the sea; across they saw a shoreline, the top smouldering, glistening in the darkness, surely the site of the explosion. They swam across the shore, they were close now, and they knew it. They came to the top of the smouldering mass and stared down into the abyss. There a temple lay, surrounded by the darkness of the Void. (The mages of Normandor believe this to have been the site of a Mori ritual and sacrifice to the Void.) Darkness filled their hearts, evil filled their minds; they all dropped to the floor, and the Void was consuming their very souls. As Bravepaw’s mind became dark, his vision blurred and his warmth removed, he clutched the seed tight. In his head he heard the saying of his family he had always kept true, “Light conquers evil, consumes darkness, embraces life and takes root even in the most darkened of places.” Bravepaw’s mind cleared, he saw... the impossible.. the ghost of his father.. and his dying words, “When the void surrounds you look to our greatest source of light,” Bravepaw’s mind cleared, only for an instant, he knew what he must do. He mustered the last of his strength, and casted the Elder Seed into the depths of the Void. Darkness filled him. Bravepaw and his companions were but lifeless corpses on the fringes of this foul temple and her Void. As they lay there, something never seen before happened. Shoots, roots, branches, leaves and vines sprouted from the all consuming darkness of the void. Several of the vines carried Bravepaw and his companions upwards, beneath them a tree like no other was growing. The Elder Tree had been born in Asulon! If you remember, “The seeds were tainted by both dark and light magic and would yearn to be in the heavens, but also in the Void.” It had found it’s perfect home; its roots sprawled into and filled the Void, while its branches and trunk reached out for the heavens beyond the clouds. This was truly the perfect site for the Elder Seed, and this is how the first and only Elder Tree came to Asulon. Bravepaw and his companions awoke, gasping for air. They were astonished; they had awoken to find themselves on top of the world. Beneath them the Elder Tree creaked in the Asulonian winds and the leaves roared. It is not known how long the tree took to sprout, but Bravepaw and his companions were sustained by its light and had been released from the clutches of the Void. They began to climb down its branches and used her vines as ladders. When they reached the foot of the tree, they looked at each other... they had been given their home. Travathian looked to his companions, “Normandor... Above sacred land.” The Elder Tree was visible from much of Malinor. Many journeyed to its shores, drawn by its light. Bravepaw, Genriel, Orlanden, and Travathian appointed themselves as Chiefs and Chiefesses of all of Normandor, founders, protectors, and rulers. They created the first High Council of Normandor to oversee its development. High Magister Kyrenn, High Commander Ithil, and High Lord Thrase now sit on the council and oversee many different aspects of its development. They work with the chiefs to ensure harmony and prosperity across all of Normandor and the Elder Tree. The inside of the Elder Tree and indeed the very top became space for many homes and buildings and is home to some of the finest Elven Architecture in the lands. On one fateful day the High Prince of the Elven Lands of Malinor decided to journey to Normandor. He had heard the many tales of its beauty and tranquility. He had been busy securing the future of Malinor and it was not until now he found the time to observe the Elder Tree in all her glory. On arriving at the bridge and meeting Bravepaw, he could not believe his eyes. This truly was the place of elven might and power. Its beauty and nature overwhelmed him. He consulted the High Elven Council and talked to the Princess of Malinor. In his wisdom he decreed that the Elder Tree City of Normandor was to become Capital of All Malinor. The City of Elves, a bastion of Elvish power, home to the High Council Chambers and would house Malinor’s central government. The citizens of Normandor rejoiced and celebrated. Bravepaw was appointed Prince of Malinor and joined the other Princes and Princesses in the Malinorian Government. His loyal companions and rulers of Normandor were declared as Lords and Lady of the Elven Realm. The Elder Tree, reborn, revitalised and rejoiced. Over the years as the Elder Tree has grown, its roots plunging ever deeper into the Void and its branches ever further into the heavens the tree’s arcane aura has expanded significantly. Many mages have been drawn to this raw arcane infusion and believe tremendous power can be drawn from it. This ultimately led to the establishment of a Normandorian college of Mages; the activities in which will be continued in a separate Chronicle. All this leads us to the current day, as Normandor still stands strong, Long may she bring peace stability and Light to the Elves of Malinor.
  10. The High Prince of Malinor and the Story of Laurelin As written by an anonymous Druid A powerful Arch Druid from one of Malinor's eldest cities in the first age came to Aegis to help the Monks of The cloud Temple and a few surviving families at the coming of the Second Age. An aspirational wood-elf referred to as "Native" was among a surviving colony of wood-elves during this time and he sought to use his knowledge of creating homes within treetops to protect those who were hoped to return to their soulstones at the Aegis Temple after the great war. The wood-elf sought the Druid, and found him near the cobblestone spires to the west of the Aegis Temple. They set off on foot to a mountain gorge he had come across that would act as a natural barrier to potential foe's. Once they arrived, the Druid wandered around in the valley reaching into a pouch on his hip every so often and scratching his head before dropping a seed. He showed Native the seeds within the pouch and they had tiny, intricate vines woven around them - with a shine very similar to glow stone. Whilst Native's guild of builders were creating the city’s wall and pathways, the old druid continued to walk along and casually drop the seeds in areas with his gnarled crook in-hand. In a matter of moments, trees begun to grow exponentially! It seemed as though the tree's grew faster the taller they got and soon the canopy raised hundreds of feet above them. A wonderful sight, the leaves sprung out of the branches with a burst of the similar glowstone glow. Bits of dust swirled down from the tree tops and faded away as they neared the forest floor. There was still however, a large clearing in the center of the grove. "This of course is for the Mother Tree" The druid exclaimed. He then grabbed a bit of parchment from his satchel and looked over at me reassuringly. The Arch Druid walked to the center of the clearing, and began to cast a powerful spell upon one of the seeds. Leaves suddenly whirled around him for a short moment and fell to the ground. The tree's trunk sprouted around him, and he was no longer in view. Native was rather frightened when he saw this, hoping the druid hadn't casted the spell incorrectly. As The Mother Tree grew to its final height, he saw a small opening halfway up the tree. Low and behold, the Arch Druid stood in the opening proclaiming "This is where a stone altar shall lay". Once the rest of the smaller tree's were done growing, The builders guild & Native climbed up the trees with packs of wooden planks and began setting down the first few platforms. In time, Laurelin had become one of the Finest Cities of Malinor and to think it had all begun with just a pouch of seeds and a pinch of Druid Magic.
  11. Accounts of the Attack of Haelun’or As written by Amras Yavelty As I arrive from my most recent travels I’m confronted with the destroyed gate of our blessed city in Haelun’or. The gates were pulled and bent by some colossal force which until this day is still unconfirmed. The only Mali’Aheral who witnessed such explosion were Vulnir and Dyonne which encountered the recently destroyed gate after hearing, what they described to be, an explosion. To no surprise the forces who perpetrated such act headed to Malinor where both Vulnir and myself saw the great creatures standing around 11 feet tall and a dreadful and horrifying appearance. As Vulnir and me hurried back to our beloved city we were relieved to see both Kalenz, a powerful master of telekinesis and our golem Aeon which wielded a mighty battle hammer for good measure. Kalenz quickly ordered all the adult Mali’aheral to take up weapons and march to Malinor to aid in what was left of the battle. I quickly went into my residence and blew the dust from my bow and gathered as many arrows as I could find, hoping they were still sharp enough to hurt such creatures that awaited us in Malinor. As the small company of Vulnir, Safrill, Aeon, Kalenz, and myself arrived at the main gates of Malinor we could only see what was left of a great struggle between the Malinor guard and the two terrible creatures. To our content no Mali’aheral blood was to be spilled as one of the creatures had been slain and the other ran its way to the North followed by what was left of the Malinor defense. As we headed back to our cihi and the bright of day gave way to the sacred night a strange presence was felt. As we approached the gates my mind seemed to be filled by an unfamiliar thought, a dark and soft voice crept through my head and seemed to be powered by the cool breeze of that night. Kalenz shouted “Get ready Mali’aheral for that being is not far.” Indeed we could see shadows lurking in the forest. Vulnir, Safrill, and myself headed to the towers while Aeon stood below and Kalenz just behind him. We kept watch all night but nothing could be seen. Day arrived and we still felt uneasy. We drank and ate as Kalenz deduced this creature could come again at night. Night approached and once again we took our positions now with the help of another archer, Ceruberr. We kept the children safe inside the walls and prepared for an imminent attack. Suddenly the voice appeared in our heads again. This time I managed to get some composure and write down its words as I heard them in fear: “Blessed are those who walk in the Light… Sanctified are those who can walk with their shadow… For their path shall not stray, their step shall not falter… Never journeying alone…… In the brightness or dark.” As these words were uttered a dark figure began approaching and Safrill gave the word to aim at the being. Aeon lowered his hammer and Kalenz concentrated what seemed to be some energy in his hands. I have never seen Kalenz use his abilities, I just knew he was a mage because I was told. The creature approached and Kalenz began to move one of the logs that was resting on the ground probably to hurl it at the figure, yet the being was smart enough to use its dark powers to levitate to a height similar to the wall. I was the first to fire, but the arrow seemed to have no effect or perhaps I missed, but so did every arrow released that night. The being was dark as the night sky absent of stars and its shape was hard to decipher but as Kalenz emitted a light using his own powers the creature retreated. It was then that we realized its weakness was light. The night was beginning to fade and the morning light covered Haelun’or in safety.
  12. The Haelun’or Schism, Volume III As written by Lucion Sullas [[Mithradites]] The importance of the events that occurred during the Schism can not be treated lightly. The after-effects, though, were seemingly mundane. With the immediate disappearance of Nelecar, the whole city simply fell to the leadership of what council was left, although Ellir obviously having significant influence over proceedings. A detrimental effect of the schism was the slow dissolution of what remained of the armed forces (then referred to as the "Legion"). The size and ability of the soldiery was slowly whittled away, until only a few diligent guardsmen remained. Further affected was the concept of violence in general--the methods of the Okarir'sil no longer popular with any citizen. The lacking of these two elements may explain why the mali'aheral nation has been a haven of peace for decade upon decade. One is sure, however, that the reader is curious of the fate these two political rivals succumbed to. Nelecar's disappearance did not last long, as he hid in the lowest levels of the city--murdering numerous citizens over the course of multiple years. However, after nearly four decades of being hidden, the ragged Okarir'sil found his way into the city, and stood in the square, confronting frightened, and confused citizenry. His madness had overtaken himself, and, as a final act, he took his own life--broken, thin, alone, and forgotten by history. Ellir'siol, who strived all her life to keep all those whom she loved safe, lost her entire family. She herself turned bitter, and strayed away from the citizenry in her cold, lonely tower above the Eternal College. Eventually, she herself disappeared--almost as if fading away with the end of her political career. Let this short history be a message of the dangers that are inherent within the extremes of political rivalry, and extremist thinking. Should one desire to take a message from these volumes, then allow this humble writer to give you a final, resolute statement. Rashness is rewarded only with destruction, and demagoguery is rewarded only with loss.
  13. The Haelun’or Schism, Volume II As written by Lucion Sullas [[Mithradites]] Now that one has learned of the two figures involved in this debacle, let us discuss the event itself. Should you not have read the previous volume, most of what shall be written will be nothing but a confusing morass of information. One suggests you perform the logical action, and return to the previous volume prior to reading this one. Nelecar's afore-mentioned zest for banishment had been mostly tolerated by the council, aside from considerable opposition from Ellir'siol. However, one event sparked a final, fatal banishment. The husband of Ellir'siol, Talias, the second-in-command of the military under Nelecar, was exposed, along with other individuals (Whom shall not be identified, due to a number still living and present within the nation), as attempting to subvert, and remove Nelecar from his position via aggressive action. Upon learning of this, Nelecar immediately called for the banishment of all those involved. Ellir'siol, understandably, attempted to argue Nelecar out of doing so, but only managed to stall his pronouncement with the help of other council members. When the decision was made public, Ellir'siol showed her true colours. In a move to directly parody the acts of Nelecar, she "banished" the entire population of the city, and majority of the citizenry followed her out of Haelun'or--those won over by her popular and public dislike of the Okarir'sil. Piling upon boats, they left the Emerald Isle to the town of Ceru--a cliffside village and quasi-colony that bordered the Kingdom of Renatus. Here, they settled for a time, and waited. Here Ellir engaged in disgraceful, demagogic, rabble-rousing, and appealed to illogical emotional thinking to further solidify and justify her actions. This went on for many months, while Nelecar and his few loyal supporters remained within Haelun'or--slowly losing confidence in their actions. After months had passed, and her ravenous support had died down, Ellir returned to the city--deeming her point had been made. However, it was noticeably absent of Nelecar. His supporters remained, and were thankfully not pursued by the "victors". The prologue and effects of this event will be discussed in the final installment of this series.
  14. The Haelun’or Schism, Volume I As written by Lucion Sullas [[Mithradites]] The history of Asulon is known to be rich with wars, political usurpations, monstrous drakes, and the rise and fall of nations. However, one history that eludes most modern, non-mali'aheral scholars is the secret history of the elhaelun'or, and its many trials and tribulations. One such excerpt (to take from a vast swathe) is the Haelun'or Schizm--a short, and unusual, period of instability and disunity in the motherland. In this three volume series, one will discuss the turbulent period for the benefit of future citizens. The ehaelun'or of Asulon was, in this period, ruled by the echillan'thilln--the Silver Council. Much like its Malinorian contemporary, members were chosen by those whom were deemed worthy by the current council members--the okariran. Two of these counsellors would begin a chain of events eventually causing the one, and only, demagogic political usurpation in mali'aheral history. Their names were Ellir'siol, the Okarir'layun (Master of beauty), and Nelecar, the Okarir'sil (Master of the Sword). From the very inception of the two working together, friction between their personalities was evident. Nelecar was a soldier with a great, and admirable, dedication to the purity of his kin. His efficient, though admittedly extreme, methods of protection allowed for a distinctly effective military force that has yet to be seen again within the walls of the mali'aheral. Ellir'siol was an artist, and an architect. Her mesmerising design of the Haelun’or residential district was one of the finest examples of classical, revivalist mali'aheral architecture available, and is still emulated to this day.Touting overtures of peace, wisdom, and forethought, she strove only for what can be perceived as "the greater good" in regards to the motherland. Despite their own good intentions, there were many obvious faults in their actions throughout their years in the service of the cihi'thilln. Nelecar was not a forgiving mali. When a single, minor wrong was committed, he would often act harshly towards the perpetrator. One such case involved an insolent mali'aheral who refused the Okarir’s demands, and was summarily locked in a cell for nearly a month as punishment. His liberal use of banishment to punish wrongdoers was also a harshly debated affair, and was the main issue of the coming schism. Ellir'siol, however, was by contrast far too forgiving of wrongdoers. She often pressed for impure mali'aheral to be re-integrated to society, and those whose ideals were not congruent with Larihei's vision were protected by her delicate, and clever political machinations. Retrospectively, conflict should have been predicted. This is but a tale of two mali’aheral incapable of compromise, and such shall be shown in the second volume.
