  1. [!] You find a letter in your aviary mailbox! Farm Draft Notice You have been selected to partake in the honorable work of ploughing the public wheat field for this year’s planting. The winter has come and gone, and now we must prepare for next year if our granary is to remain full of grain! Report to the Town Hall nine days from now (and no sooner!) and we can begin work! -Mimosa Applefoot-Nimblefoot. ((7 PM EST, today on Wednesday the 5th of April, 2023. Located in Bywater, the home of the halflings on Almaris))
  2. [!] All registered Bywater Adventurers and other interested parties receive a letter in their aviary mailbox! A Chill, Ordinary Gathering ~A chill time in the tavern, perfectly ordinary~ Although there are rumors that the world is ending, and although we've faced many cult problems, we've yet to gather together the ol' Adventurers to face these threats! Let's us gather together as Adventurers and comrades once again to talk about and organize against these new threats! Of course, nothing bad will actually be happening (I promise!), so no need to get too worried! It'll be just a perfectly ordinary Adventurer meetup with nothing going awry whatsoever! ~Mimosa Applefoot, Mayor of Bywater. ((6 PM EST, Tomorrow on Sunday the 2nd of April, 4/2/2023. Located in Bywater, the home of the halflings on Almaris. Directions: ))
  3. [!] Another notice is pinned to the Bywater Notice Tree "Loo lads! Let's go make some fancy soaps so we can keep the village smelling nice! I'll provide the wood ash!" -Mimosa Applefoot" ((7 pm est, tomorrow on Thursday the 30th of March, 3/30/2023))
  4. [!] A simple note is pinned to the notice tree of Bywater “T’is time to harvest the fields! All of our ploughing, planting, and weeding labors have led up to this moment! Grab your scythe and make Bywater proud!” ((8 pm est, today on Monday the 27th of March, 2023))
  5. [!] Yet more halfling propaganda enters your aviary mailbox The Cult Fails Again! ~Victory with little bloodshed! A lovely thing to be had~ Once again, the iblees-worshipping cultists tried to kidnap, loot, and destroy us innocent halflings of Bywater! Once again, they have failed! Three big-folk cultists in black armor rode into the shire, seeking to catch us off guard. However, when the other halflings and adventurers came back to the Village Hall, two of the cultists ran for the hillside, abandoning the third to his fate! In a display of cowardice, the last cultist grabbed a nearby halfling to serve as a hostage to negociate his freedom (poor Alculf!). He was cornered, beaten back, and his captive freed with no casualties to speak of! Once defeated, he groveled and begged for our mercy. He was revealed to be but a child, nay older than fifteen to sixteen or so, wearing a warrior's armor (such a shame that the cultists resort to Child Soldiers!). He broke down into tears and begged for forgiveness. This forgiveness was granted to him by the all-merciful halfling state. Although he threatened to kill poor ol' Alculf, he is now sorry (or so he claims) for what he's done. He wrote this apology to us: If he is found in Bywater again, we will not be so merciful! Knox rewards those who keep promises! ~Mimosa Applefoot, Mayor of Bywater.
  6. [!] Halfling propaganda finds its way into your aviary mailbox THE CULT FAILS! ~The entrance tunnel that the kidnappers hid in now lies vacant of evildoers~ Today, let it be known that the Iblees-worshipping cult of kidnappers and scoundrels have been thwarted! They tried to attack us, but, seeing our superior numbers and the great skill of our friendly big-folk adventurers, they tucked their tails between their legs and RAN all the way to the safety of the monk lands where we could no longer find them. Those who prey on the weak are themselves even weaker! Bywater stands strong! ~Mimosa Applefoot-Nimblefoot, Mayor of Bywater.
  7. [!] You find a letter in your aviary mailbox Shovel Training! ~The shogging logs and training dummies of Bloomerville, a village from a time long past~ With the recent threats of KIDNAPPING and IBLEESIAN CULTISTS in Bywater, we must defend ourselves as best we can! These foul bigguns wish to scour our shire, rip up all of our burrows and fields, and replace them with casinos, shops, and the evils of industry! Next Pumpkin Day will be spent solely on training our shovel combat skills and preparing traps and other defenses to protect Bywater from these evildoers! Halfling ingenuity shall prevail! Knox bless Bywater! -Mimosa Applefoot-Nimblefoot, Mayor of Bywater. ((Event Tomorrow, 8 PM EST, Thursday the 23rd of March, 3/23/2023. Located in Bywater, the home of the halflings on Almaris.))
  8. OOC: Hello there! This is an event designed to simulate a single day of halfling life as best as possible. Everybody starts at the beginning of the hour, having just woken up. Their characters then go about their day as they would IRP, eventually falling back to sleep at the end of the hour, which ends the event. Working, eating, talking, and other things your character typically does in a day can and should be roleplayed. There will be a single roleplay prompt happening during the hour to promote interaction, but attending it isn’t mandatory. Feel free to do as you wish. The intention isn’t to attract a large quantity of halflings into one location at a time, but rather to create as much immersion as possible. SoL Event Checklist (Optional): -Wake up ( ) -Eat something ( ) -Do some task ( ) -Interact with someone ( ) -Eat another thing ( ) -Go to sleep ( ) RP: [!] A notice is pinned to the Honeyhill Noticeboard, sketched with charcoal on thick, poorly pressed paper "T'is time to weed the fields again! They have grown over anew and must be cut down if we are to have a successful harvest! -Mimosa Applefoot, Mayor of Bywater" ((6 PM EST tomorrow, Sunday March 19th of 2023, in Bywater, the home of the halflings))

"Anyone else care to bake some bread? Ain't much work to do this summer besides feeding the animals and weeding the fields, so we ought to have plenty of time! -Mimosa Applefoot, Mayor of Bywater" ((7 PM EST tomorrow, Wednesday March 15th of 2023, in Bywater, the home of the halflings))
  10. [!] A note is pinned to the Bywater Quest Board TO VANQUISH EVIL! ~Brave adventurers gather in the tavern!~ EVIL still lurks in Bywater, hidden from sight, yet still working its ill-doings on the good hard-working halfmen and halfwomen of the village! It is time to put an end to this! We shall strike forth and destroy evil once and for all! This is an A+ rank quest, significant pipeweed rewards will be given out to the surviving adventurers! Leave no stone unturned! ~Mimosa Applefoot, Quest Office Officer, Mayor of Bywater. ((Event at 6 PM EST, Saturday the 11th of March, 2023, located within Bywater, the home of the halflings on Almaris. Directions to Bywater: ))
  11. [!] A note is pinned to the Bywater Notice Tree!! Village Schedule: Spring has sprung upon Bywater! Let us enjoy this season to its fullest! Snow's Maiden ~To those who came before us~ On this day, we will plough over the ol' wheat fields to make way for future planting! ((6 PM EST, Wednesday the 8th of March, 2023)) Malin's Welcome After commissioning some crafted goods from the Forest Dwarves of Heffrum many years back, 'tis finally time to head on over and trade for them! These new tools ought to serve us well! ((3 PM EST, Thursday the 9th of March, 2023, in Heffrum)) The First Seed ~The tools of the trade~ On this day, we plant seeds into the field and harrow them over with our new tools to make for the best harvest yet! ((6 PM EST, Friday the 10th of March, 2023)) The Grand Harvest ~A gathering of Adventurers~ The Grand Anti-Evil Adventurer Expedition sets forth at this time, ready to vanquish all evil gremlins, owl-people, and other baddies from Bywater! ((Also 6 PM EST, Saturday the 11th of March, 2023)) Sun's Smile ~Folks both strange and simple in the tavern~ Cloth-making, to end the Pumpkin Week with the village's most relaxing profession. ((6 PM EST (sensing a theme yet?), Sunday the 12th of March, 2023)) ~Mimosa Applefoot, lawfully elected Mayor of Bywater, notable halfling.
  12. [!] All around the lands of the Cloud Temple, you can sense that something greater once existed. The aqueducts by the lake and the ruined gate of the Northern Pass are not creations from this era, as any scholar of modern halfling culture could tell you. These monoliths of stone that now stand rotting in the wind and rain are but a faint memory of what came before, and of what great civilization must have built them. [!] As you come across the gate, you find a message carved onto it. Graffiti, perhaps. It reads: "What -nce w-s shall be a-ain" What a strange message.
  13. [!] Something peculiar is pinned to the Quest Board Find all the Birds! I will give THREE HUNDRED POTATOES to whomever can find all of these songbirds in our village first! ~Chickadees~ These beautiful birds are plentiful and their iconic "fee-bee" call is a treat for every ear! ~Black Crows~ These nasty little things LOVE to steal crops. Maybe you should go and shoo them away from the fields, or else they'll keep on eating all of the harvest! ~White-Throated Sparrows~ Almost as iconic as the chickadees, these birds love the colder, more forested parts of Bywater. ~Mourning Doves~ Although technically called Mourning Doves, they might as well be called Morning Doves, as I hear their calls every morning when I step outside of my burrow. Far more pleasant of an alarm than a rooster! ~Seagulls~ Annoying! I despise these "birds" that act more like demons with wings! Be careful of them when you are near the docks! ~Pigeons~ You can find these birds hanging out on the paths. They are used to being around halflings and big folks and thus hard to scare away. Wee-Tech keeps telling me these birds are somehow the same or similar to Doves. I do not believe it for a moment, as doves are far more majestic than these clumsy animals. ~Barn Owls~ They live in the barn. Not much else to be said. Best of luck! ~Mimosa Applefoot, Mayor of Bywater
  14. [!] A message is nailed to the Bywater Notice Tree Brewin'! ~Trading for Wool!~ We have a tavern here in Bywater, yet we hardly have enough fresh booze to stock it, what with all of the recent banditry and thievery stealing our alcohol reserves! If we just brew a little bit more, we'll have something to sate ourselves besides imaginary ale and non-real cider! Gather in the bar next Pumpkin Day. We've got work to do. ~Mimosa Applefoot ((Event 9 PM EST, Tomorrow (Tuesday) on February 20th, 2023 (2/21/2023). Located within Bywater, the home of the halflings on Almaris.))
  15. [!] Letters are spread around Almaris JUSTICE SHALL COME ~Capturing one of the Cultists (see below for better description of their appearance)~ ((skin blanked out b/c you should be a true gamer and use my ms paint drawing instead and not metagame based on a skin from a screenshot)) Recently, one of the Darkspawn-loving cultists returned to Bywater, complaining that our missive ruined their ability to settle any place else and that multiple darkspawn-hunting groups have been after them. Knowing this, as an act of mercy, us halflings of Bywater hereby offer a FAIR AND HONEST TRIAL to the cultist coven. The terms are simple. Come to trial and ye shall be offered a chance to make your case, argue your innocence, and make your pleas. Refuse to come to trial and ye shall be HUNTED BY ADVENTURERS AND DRIVEN INTO THE UNCIVILIZED WILDERNESS where unrepentant cultists belong. The following groups are called to observe the trial: ~The Druids of the Vale, who originally drove these cultists from their lands~ ~The Shamans of Krugmar, whose knowledge of darkspawn will serve the trial well~ ~The Paladins of Almaris, for similar reasons~ ~The halflings of Bywater, who will provide the jails and courtroom for the trial~ ~Adventurers and friendly bigguns who can keep the peace~ ~The Cultists themselves, who are to stand trial~ ~Any lawyers and legal experts of Almaris who wish to serve on the prosecution or defense~ In the event that ye cannae provide a lawyer of your own, us halflings can offer you a public defender. The trial is to take place next Pumpkin Day. Be there! ~Mimosa Applefoot, Mayor of Bywater. ((EVENT 1 PM EST TOMORROW, SUNDAY THE 19th OF FEBRUARY, 2023. Not guaranteed to occur, keep that in mind)) [!] An additional sheet of paper is attached: TO YE DARKSPAWN HUNTERS: In the event all of the cultists do not come to trial, use the below descriptions to find them and bring them to justice! SUSPECT 1: An elven man with grey pupils and fair skin colour. He usually wears a grey shirt with a green sash and darker grey pants. He was recently apprehended in Bywater yet escaped from jail due to poor jail security. I don't know much of his personality besides that he doesn't burn when aurum is thrown at him. He will try to run away from you if you ever see him. SUSPECT 2: An elven woman with pinkish purple hair equally colorful clothing, and darker skin tone. She is frequently barefoot. I've forgotten their eye color, t'was probably a bright color of some sort. She is missing a hand due to fights with Necromancers (I think it was? Or was it snakes?), probably over dominance or something. She has some old religious trauma or something. You could probably convert her back to the way of the light with enough effort. As it stands, she has some strange psychological complex which convinces her that her soul is damned no matter what and that she is beyond saving. This is a lie that the others tell to her and that she tells herself. SUSPECT 3: The blue-skinned horned devil is so iconic as to not need a drawing. He is a 'cursed child' or whatever, as the druids say. It has nothing to do with him being a darkspawn; he is cursed to look like a devil due to his unfortunate birth, yet he chose to walk the path of darkness later in life. This is the darkspawn to which the cultists pledge their souls out of fear of the afterlife. He is beyond saving. SUSPECT ???: There's probably more. I don't remember all of them. I will let you monster-hunters know if any of the suspects clears their name through the FAIR and JUST Bywater court system. ~Mimosa Applefoot, Mayor of Bywater.
  16. [!] The Following document would be mounted to the various sign posts and notice boards of the Realm. Hearken ye, hearken ye! It is with a heavy heart and the righteous fury of Knox, that I, Cyris, Shire-King of Bywater, must perforce declare war on the darkspawn of Almaris. The Iblees cultists who have fled our lands and sought refuge in the darkest corners of the realm shall not be allowed to continue their vile practices unchallenged. Thusly I do summon forth the Knights of Knox, and those with courage among our kin, to take up arms and defend our fair realm from the taint of darkness. Every able-bodied halfling of Bywater shall if they so desire, lay claim to a shovel forged from the finest Slayersteel, a noble weapon bequeathed unto us by our newfound allies, the Druids of the Vale. With these shovels in hand, we shall smite our foes and send them back to the very depths of Arugula's sea from whence they came. Let it be known that, as your king, I do not undertake these actions lightly, but we must safeguard our people and our way of life. We do not wish to stand alone in this quest, thus the Kingdom of Bywater beckons upon its neighbors to join this crusade against the darkness. Together, we shall exhibit to the darkspawn the might of our combined forces and banish them back to the shadows. May Knox bless Bywater and her allies with his cunning and wit, and may we emerge victorious in this righteous struggle. Let the foxes of the Shire roam free, and the frogs of Frogtopia sing with joy, for we fight for their liberty and the liberty of all decent folk. Signed, His Majesty, King Cyris I, Thain of Bywater, Liberator of Frogtopia, Father of Foxes, and Protector of the Realm.
  17. [!] A new paper hangs from the Bywater Quest-Board Investigations Earlier today, a frog hopped towards me and whispered in my ear of the coming danger to Bywater. We all are well aware of the cultists who abused our hospitality to hide among us, yet not one of us knows what strange things these people were hiding. They have left our village, yet their cottage remains. I am commissioning a group of adventurers to search the cottage and find anything off about it. This is a level B quest, suitable for beginner adventurers. May Knox save us all! ~Mayor of Bywater, head secretary of the Quest Office Mimosa Applefoot. ((8 PM EST, Tomorrow on Thursday the 16th of February, 2/16/2023. Located within Bywater, the home of the halflings on Almaris. Directions to Bywater: ))

  20. There is still more land to clear and put to good use. To anyone willing to pitch in some labor, I'll offer them a garden plot to grow vegetables, spices, herbs, and whatever else comes to mind. Knox bless the shire! ~Mimosa Applefoot ((Event 8 PM EST, Tomorrow on Tuesday the 14th of February, 2023. Located within Bywater, the home of the halflings on Almaris. Directions to Bywater: ))

Located within Bywater, the home of the halflings on Almaris. Directions: ))

((5 PM EST, Saturday the 11th of February, 2/11/2023)) ~Sun's Smile~ ~Bywater's newest big-folk resident~ Village Build-A-Thon! Make cottages for new biggun residents, expand your burrow, turn fields into farms, you name it! ((4 PM EST, Sunday the 12th of February, 2/12/2023)) Knox save Bywater! Knox save the wee! ~Mimosa Applefoot, Mayor of Bywater
  24. Mimosa Applefoot, Mayor of Bywater, stands on the roads of Bywater. She looks over Zidanna's observatory, the Cingedoz trading cart, and the Aurora Residence. Behind her lies the the Bywater Jungle, where brave Adventurers, big-folk and halfling alike, slew the Fire-Breathing Terror-Lizard that once threatened the village. She lies down against the grass, a quill in her hand, and begins to write: "My Fellow Halflings. It has been a long and arduous few years. There are forces at work that seek to destroy us; to drown us against the waters, burn us against the flames, and corrupt our hearts and souls. There are many who support us. Kind big-folks, be they small like us, or tall and green, or somewhere inbetween, come to Bywater to defeat Evil and defend us. Against all the odds, we have prevailed. Our vision, our dream, our future of a peaceful shire where we can till the soil and reap its fruits has shown through. Not all is as it used to be, however. We are no longer a state merely of halflings, but of adventurers, of farmers, and of friends. We are not isolated any longer, and there are others on Almaris who share in our vision. With this in mind, I make a few key changes to the village: FIRST: Bywater is a village by and for halflings, but we need others to truly thrive! Like-minded big folks are to be welcomed and given homes in the far corners of Bywater (Where ol' Bogwartz now stands vacant) so they may trade with us and help keep us safe. At the same time, city-halflings must be brought to Bywater at an ever-increasing rate to fill all vacant burrows with life! SECOND: The Quest Office is to be expanded, and Adventurers from all over Almaris brought into Bywater to further protect us, obtaining glory and wealth for themselves in the process (as all adventurers ought to!). THIRD: Keeping with our old Republican Traditions that date back to Dunshire, the Second Election of Bywater will begin shortly! I will be running for my third term as Mayor, and others are welcome to run against me or for the position of Sheriff! We have proven ourselves, and now we are to reap the fruits of our success! -Mayor Mimosa Applefoot" And surely enough, as the sun rose over Bywater, a new feeling comes across the village. Not one of worry, or of fear, but of hope. The hope of a good life not just for one's self, but for all. OOC: Bywater has gone through a lot since it's formation. We were threatened with eviction at the hands of the staff over only hitting 0.8% activity, yet we have pulled through and now must look to the future. We have active leadership as well as daily events. These will continue (obviously), but with renewed vigor. Unlike many LOTC communities, Bywater (and by proxy the halflings) is open to events and building by many people, not just our leadership. It is an ideal environment to grow comfortable with building and planning your own narratives on the server. On top of this, there are some other benefits to playing a halfling and/or living in Bywater: -No Taxes (ever!) -You can build your own burrow (or cottage, or observatory, or anything really, we don't mind) -Publicly provided and shared building materials via the Storage Burrow. No need to grind everything yourself (contributing is still encouraged!) -An overall fun and friendly atmosphere If you've ever wanted to make a halfling or live with halflings, now is the time to do so! Here is a link to the Halfling Skin Archive (I WILL LITERALLY PAY FOR YOUR SKIN COMMISSION IF NONE OF THESE SKINS SUIT YOU): https://sites.google.com/view/skinarchive/home/halfling-skins?authuser=0 Here is a link to the Halfling Guide (Made by yours truly): And, last but certainly not least, a link to the Halfling Discord: https://discord.gg/uXsA9wq Here's how you get to Bywater in the first place:
  25. [!] A notice is put up on the Bywater noticeboard FIRE BREATHING LIZARD! ~The horrifying lizard strikes at the innocent!~ TERROR! FEAR! DESTRUCTION! The FIRE-BREATHING LIZARD of the Bywater Jungles MUST be stopped, AT ALL COSTS! This is a tier A+ Quest! Only some expenses will be spared when outfitting adventurers to deal with this threat! ALL ADVENTURERS, ASSEMBLE! ~Mimosa Applefoot, local halfling and Mayor of Bywater ((6 PM EST, TODAY on Sunday the 5th of February, 2/5/2023. Located within Bywater, the home of the halflings on Almaris. Directions to Bywater: ))
