  4. The Legend of the Werehare (art by suviridian at deviantart) by Breasal Nimblefoot Chapter 1 The Beast Lurks Once upon a time, long ago in the days of yore, there was a humble village of Halflings called Flowerburgh. There, the Halflings lived their lives peacefully in their close-knit community, isolated from the rest of the world. There were many great families that had influence over the village, these were the Bronzeberries, Strongbrands, Littlehills, Riverfeet and the Flinthills. Every great family had their specialty within the village. The Bronzeberries were notable for their crafts, be it woodcarving or metalsmithing, while the Littlehills were significant farmers and herbalists. The Riverfeet were known fishermen and merchants, in contrast to the Strongbrands who were excellent hunters and had many members in the Shirewatch. Last, but certainly not least, were the Flinthills; the greatest family of the village were many of their ancestors held the position of Thain. Here we find a notable lad called Liam Flinthill, somewhat short in stature for a Halfling with blonde hair and a clean-shaved face, he is the troublemaker of his family. Not wanting to partake in the village’s politics, he seeks for a peaceful life working in the fields and messing around in the tavern. As Liam finishes his breakfast and packs his lunch, on his way to the fields he is joined by Gardenia Littlehill, a fine lass of fair and red complexion. “Good mornin’ Liam, how’s that noggin of yars afta’ last nigh’? Ya drank like there was nae tomorrow” she cheerfully asked. “I’m fine Gar, I slept like a log when I got tae my burrow. Are ya ready for today’s field work?” he replied with a smile on his face. “Sure am! I hope Dill comes tae help us since he said he’s skippin’ huntin’ today” she exclaimed hopping along the way. As the two made their way to the fields, there they were greeted by Iris Littlehill. “Mornin’ folks, ready tae join us removin’ the weeds?” she asked the pair. As the two hummed in agreement, Dill Strongbrand arrived quickly in the scene “Ah... ah... ah... sorry for bein’ late” he said out of breath. “Ah... gimme a momen’... oof aight I’m ‘ere for the harvest” he said as he gathered his energy. “We’re nae doin’ any harvestin’ today silly, that’s for tomorrow, today we’re removin’ weeds!” Gardenia explained to him. After the trio took their sickles from the field equipment shed, they joined Iris and the rest of the farmers. As the hours passed the farmers removed the weeds from the crops and soil, by the afternoon they were all finished and tired from a hard day’s work. “So, are ya goin’ tae the tavern again Liam?” Gardenia asked as Liam was a quite known drinker. “Nae, I’ll pass this time, I’m goin’ tae my burrow tae sleep an’ wash myself. I’ll stay a’ home tonight.” Liam answered as he was spend from all the field work. Soon the trio had made their ways to their burrows, Gardenia and Dill went to the tavern later on, whilst Liam did exactly as he said. Spending the night reading a book by the fireplace. As Liam was reading the grandfather clock struck thrice, half-alseep he opened his eyes to see what was that noise he heard. “Huh wha- oh it’s just the clock” he said to himself as he got up from the club chair “Lord it’s midnight already? Welp, guess it’s time for bed then” he exclaimed with a yawn at the end. As he was getting ready to head downstairs, a red flash caught the corner of his eye. He stopped and looked at the window, where a small shining red dot was visible. Slowly approaching the window with caution he got closer and closer, to the point where his face was but a few inches away from touching the glass. There in the dark, the dot was still visible and as Liam gazed at it from afar, an outline from the dot was beginning to appear; that of a large humanoid creature. It’s head suddenly moved, and the creature was gazing back at Liam with its shining red eyes. Liam felt a life-threatening fear building up, and when he took a step back the creature ran swiftly into the darkness. Shocked by what he saw, he went to his bathroom to wash his face. After some time, Liam came to the conclusion that his mind was playing tricks or that it was some kind of prank. There, lying on his bed Liam fell asleep after ten minutes had passed. He dreamt of open grasslands, as far as the eye could see, then suddenly the sky turned black and the smell of ash and death reeked. Liam sprang up from his bed “Huh!? Oh, ‘twas just a nightmare” he said to himself after calming down. As Liam was making his way to the fields for the harvest, he saw almost the entire village gathered, shocked by something. When Liam climbed a nearby boulder he saw why the people were shocked; all of the fields were barren, every crop was either missing or half-eaten.
  5. [!] A missive written in wax-crayon was distributed to the various leaders of the world's nations. Disaster has struck! In our attempts at diplomacy we have created three separate web of pacts, because of this the spiders we call friendship are all separated and lonely. THIS CANNOT STAND! Thusly and semi-immediately at our earliest convenience I am assembling the leaders of every realm, except Yong Ping **** you guys, to meet up in my lovely Shire. It is here we shall discuss the future of Bravos and the formation of a group dedicated to upholding peace in the realm, the League Of Super Best Friends. The leader of each realm, and/or one representative are invited to attend the first quad-yearly LSBF meeting to write up the terms of our alliance so that the lonely spiders can all live on one big happy web together and world peace for us non-spider folk. Catering! Packed Lunches will be provided, however no vegan options are available so it is recommended that the Vale brings their own. Seating is already prepared for each of you, so if you don't attend, you are taking money out of the pockets of my carpenters. Those who bring their own chairs will be ousted. Location! The first quadranual League Of Super Best Friends meeting will be taking place infront of the ruined Harrenite Castle in Dúnfarthing as pictured below, where we shall discuss the matter of the League in greater depth and officialize the friendship between all Realms, ending war forever . 9. ~◆:*:◇:*:◆:*:◇:*:◆~ The Peregrin Family ~◆:*:◇:*:◆:*:◇:*:◆◆:*:◇:*:◆:*:◇:*:◆◆:*:◇:*:◆:*:◇:*:◆◆:*:◇:*:◆:*:◇:*:◆~ One of the oldest Halfling families, the Peregrins, were founded by Kenwise and Lobelia Peregrin in the realm of Anthos. The two halflings were completely devoted to properness, raising their only child, Andwise Peregrin, up to be religiously devoted to proper ideals. The family lived together in happiness for some time before tragedy struck; Kenwise and Lobelia went missing as the people of the time raced from the land towards the safety of Athera, where Andwise spent time recovering from his losses. With the help of Fumble Willowbottom, Andwise became one of the land’s finest tinkers, wasting the time away in his laboratory working on all sorts of odds and ins. He soon became mayor of the village of Willow Hollow and with his wife Berylla gave birth to a group of triplets. However; after some time the Peregrins disappeared from the village and Halfling life at large, their absence continued for years with no sign of where the once prosperous family had gone. Like all things though, this was not to last and in the last days of Arcas Iris Peregrin, the great granddaughter of Andwise, returned to the village and soon began to make her mark. Adopting many of the orphans that the war had brought the family was soon a large part of everyday village life. Their influence grew as Onelia Peregrin, another of Andwise’s granddaughters, joined as well. They found the Halflings in a sorry state, the war having run them from their homes and they were taking refuge in a biggun fort called Fort Hope. There she soon took to work, building a new village within the confines of the walls with the help of Filibert Applefoot and helping to push the ideals of Halfling properness once again. As time went on nearly every member of the family would eventually hold office for some period of time, Iris becoming Thain and her children after her. Their influence growing once more. However, with Iris’ death the family’s union shattered and they faded from the spotlight. After nearly a century in the middle of Halfling culture the family simply existed, while still present the never really did much of note after this. This is starting to change with the move to Aevos the family has started to reunite once more, making their way back into the comings and goings of everyday life. They can now be found tinkering away in their burrow, helping the Halflings expand their understanding of the world around them. Dolly, Iris' grandaughter, now holds many positions within the village such as High Pumplar of the Knoxist Church as well as the head druid of the Harvest Grove. ~◆:*:◇:*:◆:*:◇:*:◆~ Cultures and Traditions ~◆:*:◇:*:◆:*:◇:*:◆◆:*:◇:*:◆:*:◇:*:◆~ The Peregrins are avid believers in the importance of halfling tradition and proper teachings, being known to sometimes go too far in their pursuit for achieving it. However, this is driven by love and care for the protection of Halflings as a race and their belief that they hold a special place in the world. There is very little else they take seriously, unless you consider drinking and tinkering. Many of the family members fall into what could only be described as chaotic good, being wild little creatures who love to party and make others happy, very rarely missing out on the opportunity to partake in shogging or pumpkin raids. Andwise had been a very gifted shogger himself, bringing many titles home to the Peregrin family. As well as their strong belief in the ideals of properness many Peregrins find themselves becoming druids or shamans, the family harboring a strong love of nature and trying to protect it at every step. This love of nature combined with their inherent curiosity about the world around them have lead to many in the family focusing their pursuits on the study of the world around them, becoming fantastic biologists or zoologists. They strive to keep the village and those within it in line with the natural balance of the world they live in. Peregrins also have raised and used Housemartins as their bird of choice for generations. The small size of them making them preferable for the small size of the wee-folk. Though in recent generations apes have become of significant importance to the family, especially Gibbons and Gorillas. ~◆:*:◇:*:◆:*:◇:*:◆~ Religion ~◆:*:◇:*:◆:◆:*:◇:*:◆~ The Peregrins are a very pious family, worshipping Knox as the one true god of the Halflings and rebuking anyone who may say otherwise. They have been devoted to him since his discovery and try to spread his ideals wherever they go. While every Peregrin, for the most part, has held Knox in the highest respect, this has not stopped many Peregrins from becoming druids or shamans. Worship of the spirits and/or the Aspects is deeply ingrained within the family. ~◆:*:◇:*:◆:*:◇:*:◆~ Appearance ~◆:*:◇:*:◆:◆:*:◇:*:◆~ The Peregrins are small, even for Halfling standards, rarely reaching over 2’10. The family also has an affinity for green and brown shades, those colors being the most prevalent in Peregrin wardrobes. While tinkering, however, many Peregrins can be found wearing shades of gray or black, as to avoid oil stains on neat white clothing. Many can also be found sporting a pair of the patent Peregrin protective goggles (PPPG) used in their various experiments and inventions. They may also tend to be on the paler side, spending much time inside working on their various creations. This may not stand true for every Peregrin, depending on their tendency to wander the family gardens or partake in outdoor shogging tournaments. A large number of Peregrins sport a head full of curly orange hair, much like Andwise, but some may be born with blonde or light brown locks due to Berylla’s bloodline. Dark hair colors are very uncommon within this family, but are not entirely unheard of, as the family has been known to take in lone halflings. As for eye color, due to being from a long unfettered line of halfling blood, the Peregrins are more prone to heterochromia than most. More often than not, Peregrin children are born with one eye blue and one eye green. ~◆:*:◇:*:◆:*:◇:*:◆~ Family Recipes ~◆:*:◇:*:◆:*:◇:*:◆◆:*:◇:*:◆:*:◇:*:◆~ The Peregrins are very famous for their recipe for a fine lamb dinner that is often adorned with gravy or pineapples, depending on the season. They are also known for making their famous Peregrin Lemonade which is occasionally spiked with alcohol, but not always. Finally they are known for baking a rare dish of mashed potatoes that is mixed with a top secret alchemical ingredient and then topped with a thin layer of bacon pieces. ~◆:*:◇:*:◆:*:◇:*:◆~ Family Members ~◆:*:◇:*:◆:*:◇:*:◆◆:*:◇:*:◆:*:◇:*:◆~ Alive Dolly Peregrin - TakeMeT0TheFae Griff Peregrin - MonkeNotic Uncle Peregrin - Func_Soap Dead Kenwise Peregrin Lobelia Peregrin Andwise Peregrin Berylla Peregrin Rupert Peregrin Milly Peregrin Iris Peregrin Mirabelle Peregrin Onelia Peregrin Sorrel R. 'fisheh business' t'ey usualleh ge' up to..." - A halfling, probably, when asked about the Trill Family. The Trills are an unorthodox family of Halflings branching off from Eldon Trill Sr, first of his name. Eldon was an adventurous lad from birth, and his rambunctious lifestyle caused many Halflings to fall under his lineage. The Trills are a mixed bag, hailing from all over with traces of different Halfling families mixed in, so you never really know what to expect when you meet one for the first time. This document will help you understand the background of the Trill's, their appearance, their tendencies and their beliefs. ~ Appearance ~ Since first generation Trills spread over different relationships, the descendants of Eldon Trill Sr can be quite different. Generally, they all have a shade of light brown curly hair, green eyes and fair skin- but do not count on this to identify a Trill. Similarly, the other physical genetics like height will be different among all Trill's- but they are usually a medium height for a Halfling. ~ Tendencies ~ Adventure calls a Trill like steam toots from a teapot. A Trill will be the first to run into a rat cave, running shortly out after being spooked by their own shadow. Their adventurous nature is short-felt at their usual tendencies to be easily spooked. You can surely find a Trill hiding in their burrow during Knox-o-ween or curled up in a ball in a hot air balloon. A Trill's burrow may not seem the tidiest at first but everything is placed for a reason. Under carpets and in the walls, secret doors lead to rooms where the Trill's undergo their ancestors traditions to please Arugula. Not only this but a way to escape, the Trill's are no stranger to having someone knocking down their door. ~ Beliefs ~ Arugula has been part of the Trill's 'rituals' ever since Eldon Jr settled in Honeyhill. The worshiping of Arugula at that time was looked down on by some Halflings, so they worked in secret. This tradition has been passed down through the generations, whilst now performing rituals to please Arugula is more ordinary. A Trill always makes sure to go above and beyond for Arugula, their ancestors drilled it into them that they must please Arugula to keep all Halflings safe. ~ Lineage ~ Eldon Trill Sr (Played) - Presumed Dead Eldon Trill Jr (Played) - Presumed Dead Rosaline 'Rose' Trill (Played) - Presumed Dead Elyse Trill (Played) - Presumed Dead Tito Trill (Played) - Alive family echo ~ Contact ~ If you'd like to play a Trill, contact rushork#7231 on discord.

  19. Halfling Crossbow This weapon is much smaller than the basic Hand Drawn Crossbow but still technically falls under the same category because it can be drawn by hand without the need for mechanical assistance. The Halfling Crossbow is usually about the length of an average man’s forearm, though there is a great variety of sizes in this subcategory of Crossbows. The bow portion is often 2/3 that length when strung. It was originally created to be a one handed ranged weapon that could be concealed. Due to the simple design, many versions were created including some very light draw weight crossbows that are toys for children. The unique feature that sets this class of crossbow apart from the rest is a bolt retention device and a release mechanism that utilizes a spring to hold the string in place before firing. This allows the crossbow to be stored loaded for quick deployment and use. Another feature is a guard or cover for the release mechanism to prevent accidental discharge when the crossbow is stored loaded. The over all design varies based on the craftsman who makes it but some come with a shortened stock having a downward turned handle portion at the back that incorporates a release mechanism. Others have the stock straight and thin all the way back so it sits flat against the body under the user’s garbs. Smaller ones have been mounted onto gauntlets or bracers but those have such weak draw weight they are hardly useful. Halfling Crossbow -2 emotes to use. One to draw the weapon from concealment and one to aim and shoot. -Can be reloaded and shot in another 2 emotes. - 5-50lb draw weight. There are 3 classes of Halfling Crossbows. Toy, Lite, and Standard. Toy draw weight: 5-15lbs Can not cause any harm. Lite draw weight: 16-30lbs Can only penetrate light clothing and cause non-lethal injuries though if it hits soft tissue, eyes or throat may be life threatening. Standard draw weight: 31-50lbs Can penetrate multiple layers of clothing and at the highest draw weight can pierce leather. - Materials for the stock are most often wood but can be made from other equally sturdy material if so desired. The bow for Toy and Light class can be made from a strong and flexible wood or metal but the Standard class must be made from metal. - The mechanism used to hold and release the string must include a spring to help prevent accidental release when stored loaded. - 15 block range. - Usable on horseback. Red Lines - The design of the Crossbow is up to the craftsman. These are not mass produced items and therefore left open to creativity. The only features they must have is a bolt retention device (spring, wooden flap, ect.) so that it can be stored loaded, a trigger guard or something of the sort and a spring in the release mechanism that prevents it from discharging wile stored. - Halfling Crossbows can not penetrate armor of any kind. - The Crossbow must have listed in the description the length of bolt it uses as there is no standard bolt size for these unique Crossbows. The bolt size is allowed to vary depending on the designer. Use a named crossbow for the final product. - To use a Halfling Crossbow you must have the proper size bolts in your inventory. They require 8 sticks, 8 feathers, and 1 ingot of Iron for 8 bolts. They then must be named with a description specifying their length. Use named arrows for the final product. - This weapon is for crp and rp only because PvP use would be more powerful than the rp version. - At the end of the description the craftsman must put a standard list of attributes using this format for ease of use in rp. Class: [toy, lite, standard] [draw weight], bolt: [length of bolt in cm] Purpose (OOC) My inspiration for this device was the Derringer pistol. It is a small two shot pistol that the wealthy and well to do gamblers carried on themselves discreetly. It gave them comfort knowing they had a way to defend themselves if necessary without the need to carry the usual heavier armament. This is not a pistol, it is a heavily nerfed crossbow. The idea was for nobility and those with means to be able to carry them because they will be costly to buy and the bolts must all be custom made. They could also be used by bandits or ne’er-do-wells. 21. A Halfling's Life [!] A portrait of Aech, expression devoid of laughter or mischief. Tick, tock. Tick, tock. Tick, tock. The grandfather clock upon a certain halfling’s wall tick, tick, ticked through the minutes. An amber eyed figure of just two feet gazing upon it’s glass face. Tick, tock. Tick, tock. Tick, tock. How infuriating. Aech thought to themselves. How long have I been here, staring at the time go by? How long has time been staring at me? Tick, tock. Tick, tock. Tick- CRASH A crystalline dagger embedded into the old clock’s crystal pane, stuck perfectly between the minute and hour hand. . . just before the time hit 12. Aech with his right hand outstretched, golden and amber mists, trickling through their fingers like sand before dissipating back into the aether. Perfectly aimed. Perfectly thrown. Perfectly done. He supposed that's what happens when you’ve been alive so long. Practicing endless repetitions. Fighting in countless battles. Then again, she had barely been alive compared to many of her friends. . . Though surely, she’d lived a long life for a halfling. They studied their hand then, glowing orange eyes watching that glittering aura orbit around her fingers, weaving through the air. Watched as the magic traveled through where her ring and pinky finger used to be. . . How funny it was to think back to how she had lost them. Decades ago, before they were even an eminent. . . Must have been in Krugmar, multiple rexes ago... His gaze traveled up further his arm, the beads of orange light that pulsed through just beneath their skin. Illuminating a pathway to the many scars he had collected through the years. Burns along her arms from fighting a water elemental. . . Her magegold tattoos that ran like veins across her collarbones. . . Her two missing legs, of course. . . The stab through her hand. . . a large scar across her back from her first brush with the ferrymen… my, wasn’t that eventful. She recalled that injury, how it had almost been the death of her. Perhaps for a larger descendent, it was one to recover from quickly. But not for she. What a fate that awaited for such a small being, born with a heart of fire. Born to burn, born to fight, born to illuminate. Perhaps that was the day she realized how weak she was. And so began the climb. Training, learning, fighting, everything in between. Until they stood as they did today. Certainly no longer young, but with power thrumming at their fingertips, they had everything they had ever wanted. Money enough for anyone, gold and all that glitters in amounts a dragon would envy, and power. Strength. Magic. And yet. Bored. How infuriating it was, to have all you wanted! Life was meaningless without something to want, something to chase, something to become! To amble about your days with power so great you could challenge a god, power enough to raze cities! And for what? Never would the chance arise to be part of something more. She could feel it in her bones- her time was coming to an end. And there was nothing she could do to stop it. Aech lifted from off their seat, floating through the air towards a nearby mirror. They gave the smallest of smiles, even in such a state of boredom finding amusement in their minor flight. The two atronach legs they had, which allowed them to float about as they did. They had a dire wolf to thank for one, and a siren for the other. So many adventures had she partaken. Adventure. Excitement, discovery, knowledge! That’s what she was missing. In their youth, such was commonplace! Everything was a new experience, there was thrill in everything if you looked in the right places. Pranks to be played, chaos to cause, memories to make. . . He had seen kingdoms rise and fall, perhaps even helped with a few. He had seen enemies die, some by his own hand. He had watched children grow old and die, he had loved, he had lived while many friends had not. But now. . . nothing. Just the clock. Ticking by. . . . Silence. Ah, that's right. They murmur to themselves. The clock is gone. Perhaps. . . it is time that I go too. [!] A portrait of a young Aech- full of mirth and joy. And so they sat before the fireplace. A hummingbird of copper and ruby feathers resting upon the mantle, old as a bird could be. “Are you ready to fly, my jewel? One last time?” They uttered out. A booklet of letters sat within their lap, each small letter handwritten with. . . the closest thing to love a sociopath could feel. She placed the small bundle of letters beneath the bird’s claws, and off it flew to the aviary. . . For clearly, such a small bird could not fly across Almaris alone. She smiled faintly as it flew off, though she was not sad. Rather. . . relieved. She stood from where she sat, and pain suddenly arced its way across her body. A feeling too frequent now. I’ve grown old. Somewhere within her, she knew tonight was the last night. The tiny halfling curled up in their chair by the fire, staring into the flickering flames. He felt his eyes grow heavy, his breathing slow. She wrapped herself tighter in a thick blanket, fighting the chill that threatened to pierce through her body. Dreamily, they thought of all the people they would see again, soon. . . Brian. . . Vesryn. . . Octavia. . . Plume. . . Alucard. . . Frisket. . . Her ex-husband, that would be awkward for certain. . . Countless others, to be sure, that their sleep-addled mind could not remember to iterate. Bah, no matter. I’ll be seeing them all soon. Vaguely they could process someone entering her home. . . Ah, she got my letter. Good. Valindra kneeling beside him, holding Aech in her arms. He smiled, as she held his tiny hands in hers. “Thank you.” He whispered. In and out of consciousness did they float, every now and then being aware of the tears falling onto their body. . . The mana gem that sat embedded between her collarbones began to flicker, as they used a last bit of magic to dry her dear friend’s tears with a breeze of warm air. Magic pulsed through their body, as for one last time Aech enjoyed the power it gave them. Am I selfish? She wondered. To leave so many behind? There are ways to evade death. . . and yet I let it take me with open arms. Do I fight to stay alive? Like I always have? No, no. . . I deserve a rest. His eyes closed.
  22. Hear ye, hear ye, Let it be known that the recent, nefarious actions undertaken by those who shall not be named but whose identities are known of are most grievous and unacceptable. I, Cyris, am most deeply shocked and disappointed in the behavior of those who have resided in our Shire as respectable wee-folk for so long. It is the very essence of our just and free commune to convene moots whenever there arises any opposition to the decisions made by the holders of positions of power, so that they may be discussed and overturned if a majority vote is obtained. Violence and threats shall not be countenanced. I implore those who are responsible to come forward and organize a moot regarding the involvement of mina in the Shire, or else they shall be made answerable to the law, and their cause shall be deemed null and void. We are a civilized society, and our differences shall be resolved in a civil and peaceful manner. The use of terrorism shall not be tolerated, nor shall any negotiations be held with those who seek to put the Shire under the threat of a blaze. Depart now in peace, as you are forgiven, His Majesty, King Cyris Collingwood I, Thain of Hayhollow-By-Water.
