  1. Howdy good people. So recently I made two skins some time ago (the first ones I've made from scratch) and I thought I'd share to see how people liked it. As the title suggests I took inspiration from the Witcher games, the 3rd one specifically. So any fellow fan should appriciate it. If anyone anyone needs the second skin I’d possibly be willing to sell it. For that just contact me. Other than that: enjoy ? P.S: The heads don't perfectly fit the original images, that’s cause I’m using them for my personas. 1. The Scoia'tael elf - The Original Image: - The Skin: 2. 2. House Stafyr Table of Contents Known Living Stafyrs Prelude Line of Hanethor Line of Galtor Line of Sybilla History The Birth of House Stafyr The Rise of Saint Godwein Clash of Brothers The Golden Age of Stafyr Falcons Fall Stafyrian Renaissance The Modern Era Family Tree Heirlooms Lords of Stafyr I - Known Living Stafyrs Prelude Any living Stafyr not mentioned in the document below is urged to contact the patriarch of House Stafyr, his heir or any castellan serving the house in order to adjust the document accordingly. All living Stafyrs can be categorized into the three primary lines of Stafyr. That being the line of Hanethor, Galtor and Sybilla. From these three children of Beorn multiple successor lines can be drawn out. Most notably the successor lines of Hanethor such as Thondorus which Saint Godwein was born into. Now presumed extinct. Other lines is that of the current lords of Stafyr who can trace lineage to the 3rd son of Hanethor, Servakin. Throughout history most lords of Stafyr belonged to the line of Hanethor with exception for a time when the house was primarily lorded by the line of Galtor after the fall of the Imperium Tertius to the death of Eadwulf Stafyr after the Greyspine Rebellion when Kristoff Ludvic Stafyr was granted the title Lord of Stafyr. The infighting between Lord Eadwulf and Lord Kristoff caused a rift in the house where the family of Eadwulf was called the Stafyr-Thurants whilst the family of Kristoff was titled Stafyr-Grauspins. After the disownment of Godwein III. son of Eadwulf the Stafyr-Thurants had gone fully extinct and Stafyr-Grauspin was the only remaining surviving line of this rift, declaring themselves lords of all Stafyr. Line of Hanethor - Lord Alaric Leopold Stafyr, Son of Erich Stafyr ((Pureimp10) Hektor Frederik Stafyr, Son of Alaric Leopold Stafyr ((Nathanbarnett36)) Viktoria Andrea Stafyr, Daughter of Alaric Leopold Stafyr ((TheIchorDruid)) Lady Katherine Marie Ruthern, Née Stafyr, Daughter of Leopold Kristoff Stafyr ((sirenscall_)) Line of Galtor – Symon Stafyr, Son of Ser Gerard II. Stafyr Line of Sybilla – Sir Konrad Arthur Stafyr KM, Son of Cedric II. Stafyr ((AndrewTech)) Georg Ulric Stafyr, Son of Konrad Arthur Stafyr Lady Isabel Josephine Stafyr, Daughter of Konrad Arthur Stafyr ((RaynaStar)) Lady Johanna Milena Amador, Née Stafyr, Daughter of Konrad Arthur Stafyr ((Dovely_) Alberich Stafyr, Son of Albert Stafyr II - History The Birth of House Stafyr, 1250-1360 It is unknown from where exactly Beorn the first known Stafyr was born. However as the language written by later Stafyrs resembles that of old hansetian it is commonly assumed that he was a descendant of a proto-hansetian tribespeople called the Almannir. Almannir were a horse faring people that established small hamlets and wooden villages that could be easily be abandoned and migrated. They had trade relations with what would later be the early modern human kingdoms but mostly kept to themselves and what has been written down could more be interpreted as fables and stories rather then history itself. Most of what is known of the Almannir has been passed on by father to son. *Assumed fresco of Almannir horsemen* It is said in the Book of Tales translated from old Almannir by Isobar Kurben that Beorn had committed a terrible sin by killing his own mother and being forced out of his home stealing all of value from his family such as the crown of Almannir but no other account found other than this states this fact making it very unclear what actually happened. What is known is that he abandoned his family name and adopted the name Stafyr. Beorn had two sons Hanethor and Galtor and a daughter Sybilla who founded the three primary-lines of Stafyr, named after them. The lines were known for the Hanethorians strong sense of honour, Galtorians loyalty to its house and the Sybillan lawfulness and just ways. It can be assumed that Hanethor the First and Galtor fought in Aegis in order to protect their families and to let them move on to the new world and Sybilla has since the journey from Aegis been missing in any known records of Stafyrian history and with their deaths Thondorus son of Hanethor took the reins to usher Stafyr into the Asulonian era. It is noted that the homestead of Rivacheg was founded by the remaining survivors of House Stafyr at the coast of the wastelands of Hanseti, led by Thondorus Stafyr together with other Almannir and Hansetians. After a couple of years, Thondorus passed away due to an illness combined with his growing age and his son Graveth assumed the seat as the head of House Stafyr and was elected by the villagers as master and bailiff of Rivacheg. Graveth's reign continued the peace in Rivacheg and let the family grow again. His three sons, of which the last one was named Hanethor II., brought new hope to the House Stafyr as the sons and daughters of Galtor and Sybilla were nowhere to be seen. Graveth’s oldest son Theor was from early aged groomed to lead the house into the future whilst his other sons Uldorzil and Hanethor II. were raised to be a scholar and warrior as to aid the homestead in the future. Rivacheg attracted plenty of trade and attention from other Hansetic villages spread around the southern wastes of Asulon and its strong wooden supplies were shipped all around the kingdoms of mankind such as Renatus, Salvus and Seventis. The men of House Stafyr got a reputation for being strong craftsmen and skilled lumberjacks a trait and mark that has been passed down in generation after generation. The Rise of Saint Godwein, 1360-1426 Godwein was born as the first grandson of Graveth and showed at a very young age a strong aptitude for learning and hunger for knowledge. Graveth personally took Godwein into his care and made him his pupil. Soon after Godweins sisters birth his mother Ravenna fell ill and shortly perished followed by her husband soon after who with a broken heart died of grief. Nevertheless Godwein and his uncles Uldorzil and Hanethor II. stood strong and kept House Stafyr up together with the now elderly Graveth. Not much else is known of Godwein’s youth. Unfortunately when Godwein was away hunting a band of marauding knights destroyed Rivacheg and killed all villagers and family of Stafyr. Godwein who had been out on a hunting trip came back to find his entire family slaughtered and home burnt down. He’d leave to never look back and after a woodsman had found the body of Graveth in the forests surrounding Rivacheg. He had the godliness in him to track down Godwein and hand him his will and the artifacts of Beorn were recovered by him. Godwein took the odd work around the sprawling kingdoms of man eventually settling himself in Arethor for a while working as a lumberjack for the construction of the new capitol and a humbling friendship began between him and the young Saint Godfrey. *Construction of Arethor* After the construction of Arethor, Godwein travelled to the Adunian settlement of Ildon where he navigated the Adunian politics and was by ducal and imperial decree granted the title of Baron and promised a fief of his own but with the internal infighting that brew during the reign of Artorus Elendil led to the fiefdom never being realized until much later after the Taurus rebellion and the brief ascension of Torrhen Elendil as lord of the Adunians. Godwein led the house for a long time and had two sons with his wife Alesira, Graveth II. and Theor II., During his leadership the family grew in size as Stafyrs from all of Oren started to come back and it was discovered that all lines of Hanethor, Galtor and Sybilla were all flourishing. Some Stafyrs that reunited with the house at the time were people such as the later Lord Edmund, Ser Farley, Emmanuel the Guardian of Stafyr and Lady Leana, wife of the last White Rose, Edmond Brunswick. The house established its first hold in Elysium in the small fortified village of Huntshill overlooking New Arethor, where the life of House Stafyr flourished and the house gained more political influence in the Holy Oren Empire as Godwein was named Lord Privy Seal by the emperor Godfrey and was promised a march under House Silverblade when more permanent lands were settled. *The Barony of Huntshill* During these times House Stafyr participated in many of the diplomatic dealings of the empire and Edmund Stafyr was knighted for his bravery in a skirmish outside New Arethor where he according to reports saved Godwein’s life During the blissful life of the Huntshill Stafyrs the primary heir of the house, Graveth II. the first son of Godwein committed a terrible sin and made a dark elven woman pregnant out of wedlock. Godwein was furious and had Graveth disinherited for his sinful behaviour and due to this Graveth went into a self imposed exile in the citystate of Eyveror. Oren’s influence grew and both Ser Edmund and his brother Farley were sworn to the knightly chapter of the Lion and Farley was personally squired by the later Jonathan of House Black later known as King John of Hanseti. Eyveror was seen as a bastion of sin and ungodly behaviour and when it became known that they were harboring wanted Adunian rebels from the Tarus rebellion Oren declared war on Eyveror and raised all its banners. Godwein who had never been a warrior sent Edmund to lead the Stafyrian retinue and as Eyveror could not resist the onslaught the city was sacked and burnt to the ground. Edmund spent the entire sack looking for his cousin Graveth but he was nowhere to be found. Shortly after the sack Graveth would return to Huntshill and was allowed back as a family member however no longer as the heir as that had now passed on to his brother, Theor II. *Sack of Eyveror* When the island group of Kalos was discovered House Stafyr together with House Valois led by Duchess Chrestienne Valois built a large manor on top of a mountain, overlooking the island claimed by Oren and the house prospered together with the Auverginians and the manor was an impressive landmark overlooking the Orenian settlement and a staple to visit whilst wandering the Kalosian mountains. It was on this island Godweins two sons both in short succession disappeared without notice. It is believed that Graveth still felt to much shame for what he had done and could not raise his half-breed bastards in Oren. It is by many accounts known that Graveth would eventually sire at least ten other bastards throughout his life. Theor would many years later return to the house and explained his long absence to the pressure of being made heir and that he was overwhelmed by the task and did not want it. Leaving it to what he felt was more competent kinsmen. However he would soon after be killed by a boar whilst hunting in Salvus. In Anthos House Stafyr was given the southeastern shores of Oren, the land was named Schattenburg and the house were made vassals of the ducal House Silverblade. Stafyr continued to prosper, Godwein was named Lord Treasurer and Grand Justice by the emperor Saint Godfrey. But one morning Godwein was found dead. Laying on the steps of the throne room of the Shadowcastle. His life ended peacefully with his heart succumbing. After his death people noticed strange events occur after praying in the church of Feldkirch and when his grave was opened it was noticed that he had barely any signs of his death and his shield and axe had not begun to rot. After this was examined by the church Godwein was sanctified and named the patron Saint of honesty, woodworkers, fungi and skin afflictions. Due to the fungi affliction he had been cursed by in the caves of the Mori’quess that was covering half his body. Clash of Brothers, 1426-1435 Saint Godwein’s great nephew Ser Edmund was now made to rule House Stafyr as he was next in the line of succession. Edmund being a very content man in life had no aim to seek glory or power, his main wish was to keep the legacy of Godwein and House Stafyr safe from the growing unrest in Oren. He had for some years been a knight in the Chapter of the Lion and his main duty was to that, fighting the enemies of Oren and protecting the empire and the imperial family. Edmund managed to keep House Stafyr out of most internal conflicts, mainly the Teuton - Blackmont war where House Stafyr stayed neutral, sending no men to fight for either side. Godwein had shortly before his passing arranged so that Edmund was married to the last known living member of House Geminine, Angelika Geminine and with her titleage he was bestowed by her the lordship of her House as well. Thus in theory making it so that House Geminine was merged into House Stafyr. However this merge was brief as male members of Geminine would years later resurface and reclaim the title peacefully. *Edmund holding court in Schattenburg* The death of Godwein had created a purpose for both brothers of Brenton. Edmund and Farley. They both worked diligently to preserve the legacy of Godwein but they both saw it as different ideas. Whilst Edmund as a lord wished to maintain the prominence of the house and its status as a peaceful and loyal house, Farley saw it most important to protect the house from sinfulness and disloyalty as he was appointed Guardian of Stafyr. Farley would often spend times trying to groom the unruly young man Alistier Stafyr who would later serve as the personal squire of Prince Pertinax Horen. Alistier reminded many older members of the house of Graveth II. especially Farley who would do what he saw fit to ensure that such a disgraceful action like that of Graveth didn’t take place once again. During these times Ser Farley’s marriage to the adultress and sinner Kinra Stark was absolved by the church and he began a courtship with Lady Emily of House Baelish after being granted permission to do so by Lord Adorellan Baelish. According to a journal written by Farley he was given permission to this after he made a jest so hilarious that Adorellan could not refuse his request. The everyday life of Stafyr would soon be shattered as Edmund and Farley got into a fight. According to the journals of Edmund the fight began due to Alistier having being beaten by Farley. Edmund had ordered his brother to stop such actions and that it was not his duty to attack kinsmen in order to groom them. Farley argued otherwise and was once more ordered to never lay a hand on a kinsman and if so would be punished. Farley’s reaction was swift as he once more assaulted Alistier and Edmund out of rage ordered his brother’s disownment and banishment. They both rushed outside into the courtyard of Schattenburg and into a cold autumn storm. Whilst they were shouting at each other Farley would charge towards Edmund and unfortunately blinded by rage, Edmund instinctively drew his sword and slashed it upwards as Farley lunged towards him. There on the mud covered grounds of the Schattenburg courtyard it was that Ser Farley Stafyr drew his last breaths before Lord Daniel Baelish who’d witnessed it all plunged his sword into Farley, ending his misery and sending him to the seven skies. *Edmund killing his brother, Farley* Edmund who had in the end always loved his brother would after this lock himself in his study for days. Only allowing his closest family and a few select servants inside. The servants would be seen coming and going with plates of food. They were always full. Edmund would not sleep, eat or rest and many say that even though he was only in his late thirties he would look like he was an aged old man. The exhaustion of this sent him into a heavy fever and he became delirious. According to Edmund’s journals during this fever he had a terrible nightmare whilst sleeping, in his dream he saw Farley surrounded by fire. He saw this a sign from the creator that the sins of Edmund kept Farley in purgatory and that he could not join the seven skies until Edmund had been absolved of his sin. When his fever was gone Edmund departed to the holy lands, to fight in the crusades to redeem himself in the eyes of the creator, leaving his wife, his daughter and his entire family at home whilst he fought for the creator and Oren. Naming Alistier as lord-regent in his absence. With him joined the entire chapter of the Lion now led by his imperial highness Prince Pertinax of Horen and they fought valiantly in orcish lands and Edmund was granted the title of Grand Ser and Knight-Lieutenant of the Chapter of the Lion. A year later after the holy relics had been recovered he would return home to his family, resuming lordship of the house. The house would remain stable for a few years and a son would be born to Lord Edmund and Lady Angelika of House Geminine, they named him Farley after his late brother. House Stafyr would carry on serving the empire under Saint Godfrey and his son Horen V and fought in many battles such as the Sack of Malinor and the astonishing victory at the Battle of the Crossing where the Orenians and high elves stood alone against all other races and crushed them in a swift blow. A display of the true might of Oren. *The Battle of the Crossing* The now Ser Alistier would go on to sire a bastard child. Edmund who was a godly man was furious at his cousin’s adultery and to escape his rage Alistier ran away to hide with House Valois. Edmund assumed this and asked Countess Rose Valois to hand him over to Stafyr but she claimed he was not there. During his stay with Valois, Alistier discovered that Rose Valois was involved in a plot to try and kidnap the daughter to the late Farley and to raise her under Kinra Stark instead of Stafyr. He returned to Schattenburg and told Edmund of this who immediately informed his liege lord Uthor Silverblade. Silverblade ordered all their vassals to raise levies and keep them such until further notice. He also issued a command to the Count of Riven, Daniel Baelish whose fort immediately bordered the Valois manor in Auvergne to construct siege equipment. A ballista was built directly aimed into Rose Valois’s bedroom window and Ser Alexander Valois settled in Schattenburg with the reason of being a claimant against Rose Valois in case of a war. However no war broke out and the conflict ebbed out into nothing. Shortly after the great exodus of Oren, Edmund was named Lord Privy Seal of the faltering empire by the newly crowned Emperor William III. and he was also declared Noble Ser to replace Pertinax Horen as Commander of the Chapter of the Lion. With the new arrangement of knights established by the new Grand Knight Daniel Baelish, Edmund was also given the title of Knight Commander of Renatus. Edmund did however not last long with his new titles. For some time he had been hiding his sickness from family and friends but it had caught up with him. He had been stricken with consumption and was getting worse by the day. His last remaining life he spent in bedrest, saying his farewells to his family until he suddenly passed away. The Golden Age of Stafyr, 1435-1464 Edmund’s son Farley, who was only four years old inherited the lordship and his aunt Leana was named lady regent to rule together with Ser Alistier Stafyr until Farley’s coming of age. Oren was in chaos, the empire collapsed as war ravaged the lands whilst different noble houses grasped for power and land. To protect the house from the wars of man Lady Leana sealed the gates of Schattenburg and the only people allowed entrance was the farmers from Feldkirch and there isn’t any definitive writing what occured between the sealed walls of Stafyr. At sixteen years old Lord Farley II. took over House Stafyr and the house returned from it's self imposed exile and was once again ready to return into the political game that is Oren. Farley quickly rearranged and had his titles adjusted into the common tongue as to not be affiliated with the Hansetic Teutonic order who were considered traitors and from this point Schattenburg and Feldkirch was referred to as Shadowcastle and Fieldchuch. After the brief rule of King Silius Horen, Farley quickly swore his allegiance to House Carrion and the 2nd empire was formed by Saint Siegmund. But the Carrions had many enemies. In an incident with the church, the firstborn son of Lady Leana, named Godwein was lashed by the church without a seemingly just cause. The High-Ecclesiarch of the church was Franz Carrion and this had the young lord Farley angered. He had a meeting arranged to discuss terms with Sophia Horen who was in an open claim against the Carrion hegemony but Walter Stafyr and the bastard of Godwein, Beron Sturm interceded and arranged a meeting with the emperor. There the matter was settled and Stafyr abandoned all ties to Sophia Horen leaving her a landless and weak claimant. Farley who had seen the lies and incompetence of his cousin Godwein asked the emperor to legitimise Beron to ensure that Godwein would not become lord of Stafyr in case of Farley’s early death without a son. Not long after Sophia Horen had laid down her claim the exiled house Tarus, allied with the dwarves and Teutons issued a declaration of war on the Orenian empire and its armies marched towards Shadowcastle. Farley raised his levies and rallied old allies to House Stafyr that had lived in exile since the reign of William the Weak. Such as Amador, Baelish and Pascal all came to aid Stafyr. Together with the armies of Oren the invading rebels, traitors and dwarves were defeated in a tough and gruesome battle. However Shadowcastle was damaged beyond repair and the castle was torn down and in its place a large village was constructed with a wall to act as defenses against any potential invaders. *Siege of Shadowcastle* During the preparations to the battle. Farley had befriended the Lord Marshal Heinrik of Roy and the two had fought side to side during the battle. Not long after, the emperor Siegmund died and instead of a new emperor being elected the empire was reformed into the Holy Kingdom of Oren after an agreement was made with House Winter and Heinrik of Roy was crowned King Heinrik Carrion and under Heinrik the armies of Oren turned their attention south and marched against the dwarven aggressors. Farley was made warden of the south and Lord Privy Seal of the kingdom by King Heinrik. It was also arranged so that his sister Cecilia was swiftly married to the archduke of Herendul his grace Lord Edward Winter and he himself married a cousin to the king, princess Milena Carrion. Aligning the three largest houses of Oren at the time by blood. The now county of Shadowcastle was flourishing and Farley had the houses of Amador and Frost elevated to noble status as barons under him and took in a mercenary company led by the former exiled house of Pascal to assist him in keeping order in return of lodging. Whilst fighting the wars against the dwarves Stafyr would form the rearguard and due to their history of woodworkers they constructed and manned the siege equipment used. During the battle of Thoringrad the Stafyrs broke down all dwarven defenses with great precision and lead Oren into a great victory. For the battle of Indograd, House Stafyr had rallied around four thousand men to fight. A combination of knights, guardsmen and militia House Stafyr made up the second largest military force of Oren during the battle. However this battle ended in a stalemate as the dwarves retreated into a large underground fort and the trench war begun After years of trench warfare an uneasy peace was settled between Oren and its enemies as the draakar Setherien was growing in strength, his cultists spreading havoc around the lands of all mortal races. House Stafyr rallied its men to fight in the northern conflicts and fought hard in the battle of Castle Greywyn. During the battle the army had been divided in two by Setherien with many men trapped north of Grewyn. Setherien destroyed the siege equipment of Stafyr personally and the Stafyrs instead charged. They charged straight through the gates of Greywyn, many men died but the valiant bravery of the Young Lord changed the tide of the battle and the rest of the army charged with them. Shortly after crushing Setherien’s army. It is said that not a single Stafyr soldier who survived in Greywyn left the battle without a scar. *Battle of Greywyn* When the flood of Anthos occured Stafyr settled in a fort by the mountainside called New Huntshill and the house continued to flourish until the Zion wars broke out. In the Zion wars King Heinrik was killed in battle and Franz was declared heir of Oren and was to be crowned king. The same Franz that had in earlier years gotten into a conflict with Stafyr and he was not a forgiving man. For briefly aligning themselves with Sophia Horen, Farley was allowed to retain all his titles, privy council positions but Franz had three fingers on Farley’s left hand cut off in punishment. The Order of Saint Lucien opposed King Franz however due the earlier schism wars that had been between the two. Under the order of Bishop John of Darfey the Decterum were manipulated into murdering their own king and Farley swore fealty to the newly formed Imperium Tertius under Emperor Peter Chivay. During this turbulent times his cousin Godwein denounced the creator in the court of New Huntshill. Furious Farley disowned Godwein from House Stafyr and had him banished from Oren with the promise of death if he ever returned. After seeing Godwein in the capitol just a few weeks later, Farley had his men arrested Godwein and he himself beheaded him on a log outside the city gates. According to the journal of Moris Stafyr, Farley was cold and distant for days after. Farley had been weakened by the death of his friend Heinrik and loss of his fingers and realized if he was to live a full life he could not be lord or he would suffer the same fate as Saint Godwein or his father Lord Edmund. Farley abdicated his titles and designated Symon Stafyr as Lord of Stafyr and Regent until his son Athelstan was of age. Lord Symon Stafyr was not the same man that Farley was. Whilst Farley had been raised his entire life to rule Symon was a shy and awkward man who much more preferred to stand in the back of the room then in the center. However Farley lended as much advise as he could to Symon and Stafyr continued to stand strong as Symon with the establishment of the new capitol settled what would be known as Eastgate. However Roy Carrion, son of the late King Heinrik had been furious with Stafyr for not aligning themselves with the Carrion claimant after the death of Franz and wished for vengeance. In a duel for honour on the isle of Thales, Farley was cut down and killed by the young crow Roy Carrion. However by accounts of the battle it would appear that Farley went into the duel knowing that he would die. That he could not harm the son of his friend. *Dance of the Crow and Faclon* The Falcons Fall, 1464-1521 At the arrival to Athera, Symon settled the coastline of Oren and constructed the village of Werdenberg. There he laid the foundations of some of the largest wheatfields ever seen by man and was jokingly nicknamed “The Bread Count” by his peers due to the fact that Stafyr had enough grain in its storage to supply the entire empire ten times over. The years went on and Stafyr lived quietly in the county of Werdenberg until that of Athelstan son of Farley came of age and was given rule of the county. During Symons rule Stafyr had with the assistance of Amador maintained a strong cavalry force to roam its lands and was considered still a strong house by its numbers but the unstable politics of Oren had left Symons rule tainted with missteps, however in a time where many old noble houses went extinct House Stafyr persevered. Symon was glad to step back and enjoyed a quiet life as a councillor to his former lord’s son until he would many years later die as a content old man married to a woman whom he loved and children that cared for him. Athelstan was in many ways similar to his father, Farley II. He was humble, decisive and a good commander but lacked the ambition and motivation that pushed Farley forward. During the rule of Athelstan he married of plenty of his cousins to other noble houses of higher standings maintaining the strong noble prestige built up by his father but his own idleness and lack of ambition had begun to cost the house prominence. Stafyrs once strong military that had been reformed under Symon and levied by House Amador was whittled down making Werdenberg vulnerable to House Vydra’s rapid expansion. A few years into Athelstan’s rule Werdenberg was without his acceptance absorbed into the realm but also without any defiance. One thing to note is that during Athelstans reign, Stafyr purchased the land of Fursten and there built a fortress named Katzbutg to defend its wheat field. *The Barony of Katzburg* Athelstan himself had early on been betrothed to a young Rovin woman, a match arranged by his close friend Gorn. But the match quickly turned sour. Athelstan supported the failed invasion of Roy Carrion and his betrothed, having her family fight on one side and beloved on the other was to much. She took her own life. The defeat of Roy’s forces and the death of his future wife drove Athelstan to accept vassalisation under Adria. Athelstan shortly after abdicated to the son of Symon, Thomas and vanished into a self imposed exile for the remainder of his life. With the abandonment of Athera and the arrival at Vailor, Thomas established his new fief called Waldstadt in the northern forests of Adria. Shortly after he too abdicated with no heir, leaving the fief and the house under regency for a brief moment before his younger brother Jakob came of age and assumed the lordship. But being a minor lord of Adria during the Dukes’ War there was nothing to be done. He was stripped of the small keep after the surrender of the duchy and the end of the civil war. For the first time in about a century and a half, House Stafyr was unlanded and Jakob died shortly after. *Lord Thomas and Jakob Stafyr* Thomas and Jakob’s reigns were both brief and with the death of Jakob no lord of Stafyr were to be found. Thus with no clear successor many believed that his had been the death of Stafyr and the end of a house stretching from the early beginnings of the Imperial annals causing a interregnum of Stafyr until the ascension of Altaron Stafyr almost thirty years later. Stafyrian Renaissance, 1549-1712 Many noble houses throughout the lands could trace lineage to Stafyr but no trueborn Stafyrs were to be found for many years. Until the son of a distant Galtorian line Altaron made himself known and with his diligence and name established the barony of Arnault under the service of the Archduke of Lorraine. Altaron re-established a competent Stafyr military and had a bustling village. Together with this he was named master of coin of Lorraine and served the archduke diligently for many years. More Stafyr descendants resurfaced from exile and the house was slowly regaining its footing in the politics of man. Altaron was in some ways a mixture of Saint Godwein of Huntshill and Lord Athelstan. He had the diligence and vocabulary of Saint Godwein but lacked ambition and a clear sense of political manoeuvring such as Athelstan. Leaving Altaron as a very humble and content man in life and he ruled as lord of Stafyr for many years as Baron of Arnaut. *Lord Altaron II. Stafyr* But Altarons long reign had him old and with this age came negligence of his barony and duties as master of coin and Altaron was eventually stripped of his titles with the abolition of Lorraine and died as a landless nobleman at the age of seventy. Leaving the title as lord of House Stafyr to his cousin Eadwulf. Eadwulf maneuvered the politics of man much more eloquently than Altaron and quickly gained himself the title of Baron of Thurant and with hostilities brewing after a prince of Staunton had murdered the eight year old count of Joren of House Ruthern. A boy. Stafyr declared allegiance with House Ruthern in the Greyspine Rebellion to reclaim Haense from the Courlandic forces. Stafyr joined with House Barbanov and fought with the armies of Haense against the Courlanders in the Second Battle of the Rothswood, where the Stauntons were humiliated. After the war House Stafyr now a vassal of the Horenian kingdom of Mardon were issued a royal decree for the duchy of Raetia and Stafyr had for the first time in its history risen above the ranks of counts and barons to the title of Duke. Eadwulf begun a military reformation called “The Green Banners Company” to rebuild Stafyrs military from the Golden Age. During these times the sixth empire was declared and Stafyr swore fealty to the new emperor. But at the same time as Eadwulf was rising in ranks, a Hanethorian cousin. The primary line of Stafyr. Called Kristoff Ludvic had risen in ranks within the Kingdom of Haense and had been given the title of Viscount of Grauspin for his service to the King. This created a rift where the Galtorian Stafyrs would under Eadwulf would be called formally the Stafyr-Thurants and the Hanethorians under Kristoff would be called the Stafyr-Grauspins. Both claiming Lordship of all Stafyrs. Someone at this time viciously attack Eadwulf. Slitting his throat but through the sheer luck someone managed to find Eadwulf on the brink of death and brought him to a Cloud Temple Monk that mended his wounds. Leaving a hideous scar along his neck as a reminder. Eadwulf continued to rule Raetia for a few more years but after his assassination attempt he lived in fear and neglected his duties and was stripped of the title of duke. Eventually he peacefully abdicated the Lordship of Stafyr to Kristoff and not long after that he passed away. Kristoff was now made Lord of Stafyr and had a long and peaceful reign under the more common Heartlandic name “Christopher Louis”. One of the agreements made with Eadwulf before his death was that Kristoff would take on Eadwulf’s only son Godwein III. but after his death, the late wife of Eadwulf, Aurelia. Refused to hand over Godwein to the rightful Lord Stafyr and thus he was disowned by order of his lordship and the crown of Haense. Thus mending the Thurant – Grauspin rift, leaving Stafyr-Grauspin as the only true rightful heirs of Stafyr. Kristoff later served under the governments of the Platines Henrik Bihar and Josef Van Alban as ambassador and emissary. He was an avid writer and wrote many treatises on diplomacy and state affairs, the most famous work being Vayrkilar and was an avid critic of the imperial economical systems. He passed away peacefully leaving his lordship and titles to his oldest son Sergei Heinrik Stafyr who for a long time served as Lord of Stafyr and Lord Marshal of Haense. However in a drunken stupor he’d attack his own son Leopold, attempting to murder him. However Leo, being surrounded by loyal Stafyr men was saved by the Hans of Sybilla shooting a crossbow bolt into Sergei. Leopold was made lord of Stafyr after his fathers death and Hans was pardoned as the act was seen as an act of righteous self-defence. Sergei tainting his legacy and being mostly written out of the history books as his son rose to lordship. The Modern Era, 1712-Present Leopold quickly rose through the ranks, establishing the County of Nenzing in the far north once more elevating Stafyr to a committal status. He quickly married Lady Valeria of Baruch whilst his cousin Ser Gerard married the King's sister, Princess Nataya. His diligence in the Haeseni politics quickly granted him the title of Lord Kastellan and assisted the Houses of Vanir and Baruch to establish the counties of Ayr and Vasiland. After the abdication of Konstantin Var Ruthern, Leopold was given the position of Lord Palatine. Together with Marius II of Haense Leopold took part in the Nenzing conspiracy where the lords of Haense and Ves swore fealty to Joseph I, Holy Orenian Emperor after Antonius I, Emperor of Man had dissolved the Empire of Man. During the War of the Two Emperors, House Stafyr fought alongside the armies of Oren in several battles including the Battle of Upper Rodenburg and the Siege of Helena, during the siege the Lord of Stafyr directly commanded the Haeseni men together with Godfric of Alimar. Leopold continued to lead the house through the war becoming a more bitter, blunt and resentful man after seeing his men die. However loyal to their cause he kept fighting. Receiving plenty of scars on his body and losing one eye, Leopold would perhaps be the Stafyr lord in history to have seen the most war and combat. In 1718 the Orenian and Renatian forces would clash once more in what would be known as the Second Battle of Leuven which ended as a Renatian victory after the Orenian army got disorganized and scattered by the Renatians chock tactics. During the battle Leopold received a wound to his side but due to the continued risk of remaining outside of Reza he ordered his men to begin the march north to Nenzing. After about one day and a half the lord collapsed, an infection had gripped his body and after another fourteen hours of bedrest. Leopold died of his wounds. A combination of septic shock and blood loss. His young son Erich was now elevated to lordship with Ser Gerard "The Bear" assuming the mantle of regent until the young boy would come of age. Ser Gerard would go on to distinguish himself as the Lord Justicar of Hanseti-Ruska, implementing his cousin Leopold’s judicial reforms and overhauling the legal system of Haense during his long tenure in the position. During this time, a distant cousin of Lord Leopold’s from the Sybillan line began to distinguish himself, a knight errant of the Kingdom of Haense by the name of Ser Konrad “The Wolfsbane”. A skilled politician and administrator that was mentored by the famed Lord-Palatine and Regent Georg Stanimar, Konrad quickly distinguished himself as the Stafyr representative in the Royal Duma of Haense. After his appointment to the Speakership of the Duma by the Lord-Palatine Lerald Vyronov, Ser Konrad pioneered the institution of a more formalized structure for the Duma and implemented many reforms, shaping the institution into a modernized legislative body. His hard work, determination, and competence caught the eye of King Andrik III of Haense, who summoned him to form a Government in his name as Lord-Palatine and Chancellor of the realm after the resignation of Lord-Palatine Terrence May. Thus, Konrad followed in his cousin Leopold’s footsteps. Overseeing an unprecedented economic boom and leading the Haeseni armies during both the kidnapping of Grand Prince Andrik Petyr Barbanov and the Great Fire of Reza, Ser Konrad would be remembered fondly as a competent bureaucrat and administrator who governed in King Andrik’s name up through the first days of the Ruber War. Together, Ser Gerard and Ser Konrad would go to distinguish the House within the Kingdom of Haense and further bring honor to the Almannir legacy. Upon his coming of age, Lord Erich too began to distinguish himself within the kingdom, becoming both Andrik III of Haense’s Royal Envoy and a cavalry commandant in the Brotherhood of St. Karl. Ser Konrad’s wife, Kamilla of House Baruch, would also go on become the Lady Maer of the Royal City of Reza, working alongside her husband to strengthen the Kingdom’s prosperity. Years would pass, and the Stafyrs would continue to maintain a strong presence in Haeseni politics. Following Lord Erich’s untimely death during the Ruber War, Lord Alaric Stafyr would inherit the House’s lordship with Ser Konrad serving as regent for a short period of time. After a period of retirement, an aging Ser Konrad was also elected to the position of Imperial Senator. Lord Alaric’s wife, the Princess Aleksandra of House Alimar, would also be elected to the position of Lady Maer of the Royal City of Reza. Eventually, King Andrik IV of Haense would request as his final wish that the young Lord Stafyr, alongside his own brother Prince Otto Rupert Barbanov and his cousin Prince Godfric Alimar, lead an expedition into the ancient land of Athera in his name in the hope of recovering a set of ancient Barbanov heirlooms. During the expedition, several Stafyr heirlooms were also recovered by Lord Alaric and Ser Konrad, including the ancient helmet of Saint Godwein, as well as his sword. With the expedition now having returned to the Kingdom of Haense, the young Lord of Stafyr and his wife would continue to make headway in the world of Haeseni politics, becoming as beloved as Leopold, Gerard, and Konrad before them. 3. A Pocket Naumarian-Common Translation for the Adventurous Compiled by Otto Kortrevich Compiler’s Note Naumarian is the language of the Haeseni people and gives a voice to the soul of the North. When I had the opportunity to be taught in school, Common certainly was the major language, however, Naumarian was still taught. These days it is used far less, however, I have run into a growing number of individuals pursuing a stronger relationship with our traditions. Haeseni Literature The Kingdom of Haeseni-Ruska has a full and well-documented history for any who share an equal interest in learning it as they do this language. The greatest resource for compiled Haeseni literature is the Work Directory, which is wonderfully kept up to date by the Brotherhood of Sigismund and the Society of Saint Everard. The index can be found in the Alimar Memorial Library in the Grand City of New Reza, as well as many of the great libraries within the Holy Oranian Empire. As this is a translation guide, you may also be interested in its roots. A great volume of the words is pulled from Karl Kautsky’s A Dictionary and Etymology of the New Marian Language. For those interested in the culture of our kingdom, I highly suggest reading Haeseni Mythologie from Otto the Tarcharman. It is a good long read for sitting and when twisted slightly makes a fantastic story for children. If history is what you are after, the notes on my cousin The Life of Ser Nikolaus Kortrevich, by myself, tell the great story of not only Ser Nikolaus but also a glimpse into the Kortrevich house. For even more history, many of the noble families make an effort to report their efforts and tribulations. Following the Compiler’s note and the brief note on Haeseni literature, the translation guide begins. It makes sure to be highly specific on the grammar formatting and takes similar detail on the different forms of regular and irregular verb conjugations. Continuing on the book outlines widely-used nouns, adjectives, adverbs, and pronouns. A section is dedicated to relationship words, explaining that there are so many because of the cultural emphasis on birth order. Translation Pages The final page of the translator has a circular diagram explaining how the Imperial dates convert to the Haense dates.
  4. Regal is the countenance that overlooks the bustling Chapel of St. Sigismund. Upon the Grand Prince’s shoulders lay a coat of heavy furs, the boy’s boney shoulders drooping with a heavy weight; born both of his adorned attire and the responsibility that looms. He releases a breath -- hands twitching in anxiety -- as he focuses his view unto the entrance of the Holy Chapel. Outside awaits his duty, he must have understood in a grim maturity, a duty that peeked at him from beneath a thin veil of fragile white. The young prince turns his head away and flits his attention over the trail of expectant gazes from the crowd of Haenseti. He nods, satisfied. He nods to his father, looking on with a smile. He contemplates smiling himself, though he settles for a somber stare in a thin-lipped vacancy, his back to the Chapel doors. Indeed, satisfied. As his Lady-to-be enters the chapel, the admirative gasps and hushed praise of grateful subjects are betrayed by an ominous anxiety. He falters when the gasps turn to shrieks of horror. He turns and grips at an empty sheathe, eyes frenzied and rattled in a moment of utter confusion. There is no respite for him to take, no shuddering breath in preparation as he lay his eyes upon her bloody veil in the maws of an accursed thing. He does not see his people dart in panic. He does not hear their wails. He sees only a carnal beast reflected in his beloved’s glassy eyes; a visage that loomed so pridefully violent over his bride’s ravaged corpse, her life sapped by wretched claws sunk deep into her pale, white skin. The young Prince meets the beast’s face with a silent horror; it is unholy and savage, a mutation of a wolf touched by that of the devil, with bloodstained teeth marked by gibs of flesh. “Your Highness, behind! Behind us,” begs his marshal, shoving the young boy behind a line of armored soldiers. “Shields! Shields, up!” His voice dies in his throat as the beast brutalizes the crowd; there is no ringing of swords against metal, naught but unheeded screams and the tearing of flesh by an animal’s claws. He pushes against the soldiers (“I can fight!”, he screams), and they fall away into dust, swords and spears strewn across the ashes. He falters, again, looking down instead to the pools of blood and drifting flesh. He knows what he will see when he raises his head; he has seen its countenance before. The young prince trembles within the bath of Haenseti blood, and he feels the stench of death permeate his nostrils as he raises his head --- There is the beast, he knows. He closes his eyes. He thought it smiled at him. He was right. A hooded figure draws a sharp breath as he forces himself to awaken, his throat tight and heart thundering in adrenaline. His hair is grey and damp with sweat, but clean; he presses a finger to his teeth. There is no blood. Nonetheless, he laughs; it is sharp and cruel, and it comes from his crooked neck, but he laughs. He craved then what he could only have in memory, a blood-lust fueled by dreams. The wretch swings his legs from the bed, dragging a weathered robe from a protruding root, and he smiles. He smiled the Sun’s Smile.

  15. Hi guys, this is my fist post, maybe more will come. This is Darius, a tavernkeeper at Reza in Haense. Iits my first character on Lotc, and it have been quite nice to play in this server, i’m very excited too, so i decided to do a sketchy simple paint just to illustrate my character. im still thinking about doing a post with some of my works and maybe open for commission, but for now i hope you like this one. If you want to meet Darius, stop by the Tub & Tuck inn at Reza to take a drink. Well this is it hahahah, thanks! EDIT Made two more of Darius
  16. Name of Culture: The Altaira (singular Altairi, adjective Altairan.) Introduction to the Culture: This culture is not (consciously) based on any real-world culture. It was mostly made to fulfill certain aesthetic and anthropological preferences of mine. Cultural Stereotypes (I.E. TLDR): Haughty Flatterers, Impious, Head-in-the-clouds, Strict and repetitive, Artistic and poetic, Weaklings, Romanticists, emotional, dithering, addicts History: Many theorize that the Altaira were originally half-elven. While it may have been true once, they are certainly now far removed from such ancestry. Due to their small, isolationist communities, the Altaira have mostly flown under the radar of many nations. Commonly, a larger nation will find an unaccounted for castle full of Altaira. They most often just take the castle without thought to the culture of those inside. Because of this, it is far more common to see Altairan jewelry and treasures than it is to see actual Altairi. The predatations of the nations forced the Altaira long ago into the wildlands, though certain noble clans in civilized areas are descended from Altaira who were assimilated. Because the basic cultural appearance of the Altaira is so dignified (as opposed to certain more boisterous cultures), the process of naturalization and acceptance is far easier for Altaira, at least in places where such things are valued (they do not often find acceptance in dwarf lands for instance). This further dwindles the population of recognizable Altaira. Many speculate this culture is on its last legs, but the acceptance the Altaira have for others joining in their customs gives a certain amount of stability. Society: The basic unit of Altairan society is the Kun, or castle. Altaira do not possess individual houses, but rather everyone in a community is united under the roof of the Kun. The only people in Altairan society who do not live in the kun are the herdsman, who are marginalized but necessary for the food and fibers they provide. Each Kun is essentially an independent city-state, with its own king, called a Karilan or Kurilan. The Altairans mainly depend on wheat, honey, sheep, and fruit for nutrition. They also cultivate a type of grass-like plant fiber which is integral to the makeup of their clothes. Eating as a whole community is common, but smaller meals in one’s personal rooms aren’t stigmatized. Both of these meals are mostly meats and meat-pies or fruit pies, both including many flavorful herbs. They often create creamed honey and fruit candies in various whimsical shapes. They also often delight in odd fruit trifles made with goat cream and liquor, sometimes even Altairan absinthe (see the religion section). While there is certainly a great deal of love shared in a Kun dwelling family, each person is expected to care for the other citizens of the Kun almost as much as he cares for his own family. In the same way, Altairan romance can become dampened by the various pressures and duties to the Kun and to natural law (as we will see later). Because of such deficits, emotion, from joy to melancholy, is highly valued in Altairan society, and those who show their emotions, and experience such emotions in fullness at the proper times, are greatly admired. Another value held by most Altaira, though for quite different reasons, is the interpretation and creation of symbolism. Such things make the Altaira known, when they are indeed known, as unrepentant artists, even when the Altairi in question would be considered quite average in his own Kun. While the Altairan herders ostensibly share these values, they express themselves in quite different ways. The Herdsmen are stereotypically hedonistic (for food and sex more than drugs), and are known as augurs and interpreters of omens. These things further complicate their relationship with the Kun dwellers. Disreputable Kun-dwellers sometimes engage in pastoral trysts, or seek out herdsmen for heterodox fortune-telling practices or interesting ideas for poems and plays. Because of these things, Kun-dwellers’ view of the herdsmen exists in a semi-contradictory state of reverence and contempt. (In Altairan stories, the herdsman is something like a perverted diogenes, making fun of the standard view of the world. Keep in mind that herdsmen almost never appear in plays or dances, only stories) Religion: The Altaira are mainly aministic, revering and ascribing sentience to important natural and artificial structures, such as mountains, rivers, and wells, as well as celestial events like storms and seasons. While most Altaira also give material offerings and prayers, the main bulk of Altairan religious practice is in the form of Ritual Plays, Dances, and Conversations. In each of these rites, the principle actors take on the personages of gods, spirits, and natural phenomena, acting out various parts of the natural order. This has a specific purpose in Altairan culture: maintaining the law of the world. Altaira believe that the elements of nature often disrupt or forget the natural order, so these rites are demonstrations of the way things should be. The Altaira are very syncretistic, and have few problems adopting gods, aenguls, and spirits from other cultures. Since their own religion is very dependent on the locale in which it is practiced, they tend to view other gods as very regional as well, and tend to ascribe them natural aspects, such as understanding Aeriel as a god presiding over a local hill or statue that just happens to be a beloved psychopomp and god of light. They are, however, perplexed slightly by the workings of divine magic, as their religion isn’t so much about the accumulation of power against evil, and the phenomena they revere rarely grant powers. Dreams also feature in Altairan religion, but not in the way they do in other religions. Instead of functioning as revelations, they are seen as another area in which the natural order can be symbolically reinforced. Drugs aren’t heavily stigmatized in Altairan society, but they are heavily frowned upon when taken outside the proper context. The Altairan drug of choice is a type of hullucinatory herb which is often mixed with alcohol, often called Altairan Absinthe or Dreamer’s Wormwood. Flowers tend to represent dreams in Altairan religious thought, each with associated meanings. Certain types of flowers, in certain arrangements, are thought to allow the creation of shared dream-spaces (if this is indeed true, it may be thought of as a culturally linked, very low powered form of cartelepsy, which may persist between uses. If needed, I will draft up a lore submission for it). The conjunctive use of flowers and dream-inducing drugs is the standard for all those overly interested in dreams. The spaces cultivated for such uses are called Lukumu. On the topic of dreams: it is said that some castles are so involved with dreams that they are themselves reflected in dreams. Such places are called Kun Tunianik, or Castles half-dreaming. Some also say that there are Castles entirely held in dreams, spirited there by the machinations of wizards and dreamers. These aren’t so much ghost stories as idle rumors, and some dreamers seek out such places. Language: While most Altaira speak the common tongue, they also possess a ritual language used for religious and magical rites, including Altairan ritual conversations. Note: A is always ah, I is always ee, u is alway oo. If two vowels are next to each other, pronounce them individually (thus, the pronunciation of Altaira is Alta-ira). Sentence structure proceeds Subject-Object-Verb, with adjectives and adverbs following what they modify. General nouns: Atun: The way of things, the natural order Kun: House or Castle Alasi: Spirits and gods Pin: Forest Naka: Hill Nurimu: Mountain Iral: Spring or well Duni: Lake Luka: Meadow or Garden Umulu: Veil Iklin: Robe Iklan:Cloak Tuni: Dream, vision Terms for People: Karil: “Dweller in a castle”, variously translated as prince, noble, or courtier. A general term of respect. Kuril: “Dweller in a castle”, variously translated as princess, lady, or maiden. A general term of respect. Karilan: “Ruler of a castle”, masculine. Sometimes king or chief Kurilan: “Ruler of a castle”, feminine. Sometimes queen Kariliamu/Kuriliamu: Artificially constructed by the Altaira to describe the kings/queens and emperors/empresses of other lands, who rule over many castles Neka: Masculine foreigner or traveler Neku: Feminine foreigner or traveler Adjectives: Iamonu: High or Important Moknin: Steady Anak: Little Anik: Half Particles and Verbs: Ki: this Ara: is, am (singular) Iri: Are (plural) Ni: I, we (indicated by verb declension) Li: You Nesak: not, no Latu: has (i.e. singular) Litu: have (i.e. Plural) Bakma: Destroy (Singular) Bikmi: Destroy (plural) Arpa: Wear (singular) Arpi: Wear (plural) Sample text: A ritual conversation to praise the king and protect against earthquakes Adam: O! Ben Karilan ara Nurimu Ki. Li Latu Kun ki. (Oh, king Ben is the mountain. You have this Castle [in your hands]) Ben: Ni, Nurimu ki, ara moknin. Ni Bakma Nesak Kun Ki. (I, the mountain, am steady. I will not bring ruin to this castle.) Ben: O! Adam Karil ara karil moknin. Ki Ara Atun. (Oh, Prince Adam is a steady courtier. This is the way of things.) Note: the phrase “Ki Ara Atun” (this is the way) is very important in their culture. The standard use is as a close to ritual conversation, it is also a phrase of agreement or acquiescence. Think of it somewhere between “Goodbye”, “C’est la Vie”, and the type of “amen” found in really enthusiastic protestant churches. If someone sings a song that reflects the natural law, an Altairi in the audience might call out “Ki Ara Atun!” while clapping or singing along. If there is a difference of cultures, or some kind of natural mistake, the phrase is also used in a more questioning or dejected manner. However, if someone says something untruthful (that is, something which does not reflect the natural law, like declaring that a sea shall burn in ritual conversation), or if someone refuses to participate in ritual conversation, the phrase “Ki ara nesak atun” (this is not the way) is used to indicate departure from proper order. Think of this one more like a director’s “Cut!”, “No, I said that wrong”, or a jeering insult. Common Traits: The Altaira are a culture, not a race, and so have many disparate traits, but the vast majority of humans in the culture have pale blonde hair and green eyes, and are fair skinned (but again, this does not hold for all). They are also usually very thin and willowy. Because of certain cultural ideals of beauty, these traits can appear in races where they are not very common (i.e. if a dwarf who is integrated into the culture matches more closely the ideals of beauty, their traits get passed down more often). Not much grief is held by people who don’t meet beauty standard, due to a cultural propensity for obscuring the face and body. Behaviour: The Altairan way of life is very ritualized from day to day. For instance, the example of the Altairan language shown above is a ritual conversation, meant to show and embody the atun. These conversations typically consist of three sections: First, an introduction in which the roles of each participant is established, which may take either the form of one participant declaring both roles, both declaring their own, or both declaring the other’s (in the first case, some amount of correction by the passive participant is acceptable); Second, an extended metaphorical dialogue in which the participants attempt to ascertain the dictate of the natural law in the specific circumstance; Thirdly, an optional final step delivering information not conveyed in the dialogue (such as the answer to a question that the interviewee regards as in the natural law but not in accordance with their chosen role), or the execution of certain actions decided upon in the dialogue. Here is now another example in common: Alice: O! I am the Daughter*, seeking to know. Who are you? Adam: Hail, daughter. I am the River-Spring, bringing water. Alice: River-Spring, is it in the way that I might have a drink? Adam: Daughter, the river should not stop the Kuril** from drinking. [The action is carried out]*** *the Daughter or Son is one of a class of generic, person oriented roles. The Person/Natural force dialogue is the most common form of ritual dialogue, since it is always of concern to make certain that natural forces act in a certain way to people. In contrast, Natural Force/Natural Force is more rare, since nobody much cares if snow falls on some distant, uninhabited mountain. **Kuril is here used to establish the river-spring’s relation to all Altaira, not just one. ***Due to the metaphoric nature of the dialogue, what action this is remains context dependent. Some possibilities are: Adam lets Alice drink from the literal water he was carrying, Adam gives Alice some piece of wisdom which is refreshing and necessary, Adam and Alice “fade to black”, Adam gives Alice some alms. Metaphoric Faux Pas: Comparing someone to a dream, as dreams aren’t often under natural order, and are mildly associated with subservience when they are. Instead, compare them to a garden or, if the person is powerful or artistic, to a dreamer. Do not either compare someone to a mask, or make references to a mask one is currently wearing. Instead, treat the person as if they were whatever the mask represents (at least in name only, it’s just polite). Comparing someone to a tool, even one well made, is likewise somewhat rude. The best connotations tools can have is sturdiness, good-making, and diligence. Festivities: The two main festivities, Plays and Dances, bear themselves a resemblance to more formal and communal versions of the Ritual Conversation. Plays, if you can call them that, do not need an audience, and don’t necessarily need a script. They always include masks and at least one narrator (if there are multiple narrators, they function as a kind of greek chorus). The narrator could be synonymous with the master of ceremonies. Generally, experienced actors are required for major roles (I.E. Those that can go most astray from the natural law). In a play, anything goes as long as it is in line with the Atun. Characters often introduce themselves when they appear first on stage whenever there is time to do so. This is because leaving identities up to interpretations is a danger to the natural law. Characters in Altairan plays always act with proper respect (or intentional and proper disrespect) for the same reason. Dances in Altairan community are a bit more visually interesting. Music isn’t necessary beyond at least a drum-beat. The general dance begins with a slow start, called the Moknil, or steady forms. The Altaira engaging with the dance assume various poses, some premeditated, some improvised, symbolizing some piece of the natural order which their character must enact. They switch from pose to pose rapidly on the drum beat, moving around most often in a circular pattern, staying completely still otherwise. The drumbeat becomes faster and faster, seamlessly transitioning into the Tuni, or vision. In this stage, the performers no longer pose, but seem to fly about the stage in their previous patterns, with cloaks and veils billowing about them. The name of this stage of the dance is speed and elegance in equal measure. (for the Moknil, think of the dance aang and sokka did in the episode “the firebending masters”) Another sort of dance, sometimes thought of as a game, is the mock-battle. This activity, which also serves as a surrogate for honor duels, is sort of like skillful rock-paper-scissors fought with wood sticks. The opponents swing their sticks at different heights, attempting to get a knock on the person. A higher height generally beats a lower height, but if an opponent ducks and hits very low than the height is a disadvantage. If the sticks clash, then both players attempt to quickly pull back and hit again. This lasts until one opponent gets a number of hits previously specified. Matches between skilled opponents become quite the spectacle of clacking sticks, since one can predict where an opponent is likely to hit based on where he is swinging. This bit of recreation is quite peculiar in the Altairan Kun. Firstly, it bears little resemblance to real Altairan fighting styles, which eschew slashes for stabs. Because of this, it is widely regarded as very silly, and this is the reason that they are called mock battles and not just stick-fights. However, almost every grown man and woman is rather skilled in it. Even more perplexingly, few children play it. The most common theory is that this practice was imported from elsewhere, and its use in honor duels is much more common and important than outside observers think, leading to its widespread use. Clothing: The standard outfit for domestic life in the Altairan Kun consists of modest underclothes, overlaid with two or three flowing robes and a cloak. This is the minimum requirement for clothing, and most people wear far more (but little care is paid if reason is given for less clothes, and many wear only one shorter robe for more practical activities). Veils of thin cloth are also worn by both men and women. These veils vary from covering only the hair to reaching to the shins. Everything, except the underclothes, is brilliantly dyed, woven, and embroidered, and muted tones are very rare. When clothes aren’t bright colors, they are pure white. For official activities, veils are required, and wooden masks are often worn Military: When The Altairi fight, they wield weapons of ceramic and imported bronze. Their cloaks function as a kind of armor, catching and dulling blades as it tears. They employ a brutal martial style, going for the throat as quickly as possible against armored opponents. They are known for employing very tricky tactics, often causing illusions, both mundane and magical, to confuse and frighten the enemy. There is a famous story where a band of Altaira stretched painted fabric between themselves and each held a lantern pole, giving the appearance of a great army with many link-boys, frightening off the enemy. The veracity of this story is suspect, but gives insight into the sorts of tactics they might use if given the chance. However, when in one-to-one combat, an opponent who experienced the Altairan style before will generally prevail, as the style is very predictable. These opponents are rare due to the rarity of the Altaira in general. (This Culture is still open to suggestions and revisions, particularly in the History and Language sections. If you’d like me to retcon your culture into the history, or to suggest a (non-joke) word or grammatical feature, let me know and I’ll consider adding it. This is my first lore(ish) post, so I hope you like it.)
  17. The provincial arms of Rubern. Name of Settlement: Province of Rubern Peak Times: Any time between 12PM to 10PM (EST) Population Density: The town of Rubern proper consists of a mostly human populace, with much of that human majority comprising of Highlanders, with a small community of Heartlanders and Farfolk. Brief Description: The Province of Rubern was established via a pact forged between Prince Vladrick Barbanov-Alimar and the Black Reiter Company; the latter swearing fealty to Prince Vladrick in exchange for safe harbor. Where they once served as a mercenary company of global repute, they have since become the elite household guard for the Prince of Rubern. Upon the Ruber River, they established themselves upon the ruins of Leuven, decimated in the aftermath of the War of the Two Emperors. Once a lawless and scarce land, the Prince’s retainers have transformed the territory into a land of prosperity, centered around the newly-erected and flourishing settlement of Rubern proper. The Province of Rubern has described to be a land of opportunity, inhabited by free men who share a common value - to strike out on their arm, and make their own fortune through toil and hardwork. The Province encourages all craftsmen, soldiers-for-hire, and wanderers alike to settle upon the Ruber River and set up shop. Furthermore, any and all citizens are welcome to put themselves forward as aldermen, where they may serve as representatives for their respective guilds or communities. This allows the common man a voice in governing body of the Province; the Duma. Together, under the guidance of the Prince and the Duma, the Province optimistically looks forward to the future. 18. THE CAER BANN COMPANY 13th of Godfrey’s Triumph, 1722. MISSION The Caer Bann Company is an organization of disgruntled veterans, cast aside by most men, who still wish to do good before they perish and transcend into the next realm. Clad in Crimson and White and living within the eastern reach of Robertston, men of Caer Bann conduct themselves as free men and sellswords, offering their aid to whoever the Company deems in need, be it a poor peasant, an ally or a monetary contractor. As such, these veterans, with no lord but their commander, Richard de Reden, roam about the country-side and travel city to city in hopes of finding work or use in some way or another. CONTRACTS Security Contracts involving security implies that men of Caer Bann would be acting as peacekeepers for their employer. Be it an escort, the need for extra blades during a high-stress event or simple intimidation, Caer Bann, dependent on the task, shall rally and aid in these endeavours. Additionally, the men of Caer Bann will do its best to aid in the repelling of raids and fight to the death if need be. It should be noted, however, that stupidity is not the same as bravery - should a contract appear to result in certain death, it will be ignored. Prices to be discussed. Offense Men of Caer Bann hold a special ability in their ability to extend cruelty upon its enemies. Though mayhaps not the greatest fighters in the land, they are more competent than nine out of ten guard forces and/or militias. Thus, provided that contracts violate no international treaties, security contracts and/or if a contractor is willing to take full responsibility for the task given to the company, the men of Caer Bann will get into the cuts and do your dirty deed. Prices to be discussed. Construction Being veterans, those in the Caer Bann Company hold the unique ability to quickly establish defenses in a timely manner. Should your fief or people be in need of security upgrades or men to dig trenches, the Caer Bann Company is more than willing to aid in these endeavors should the price warrant the labor. It is noted, however, that this does NOT entail fortress construction. Outpost construction, on the other hand, is possible. Prices to be discussed. RANK STRUCTURE Footman Footmen are the fresh blooded and/or potentially untrustworthy members of the company. Put through a trial period to determine their loyalties and ability to listen to commands and integration, footmen are expected to become trained before potential oathing. The duty of a footman is to become a well-rounded member of the Caer Bann company, so that they might be oathed. Man-At-Arms Men-at-Arms within the Caer Bann company make the bulk of the force and hold its plethora of blades. Filled with recently oathed and fully fledged members, those who don the rank Man-At-Arms receive full contract privileges and the ability to receive a portion of the pay from contract. Additionally, these men will be considered for promotion. The duty of a Man-At-Arms is to simply participate in contracts and aid in their completion. Sergeant* Sergeants within the Caer Bann company are the lowest ranking officers and thereby are the most plentiful. Not made a lieutenant, most likely due to a lack of combat prowess and/or due to their fresh nature within the company, Sergeants wear the normal uniform equipped with pauldrons and tassets. Sergeants are expected to act as the role-models for the lower ranks and display their prowess so that they might be promoted to lieutenant. Lieutenant* Lieutenants within the Caer Bann company are those who’ve mild officer power yet have shown great prowess in combat. Primarily acting as the heavy lifters of the Company, Lieutenants are to act as fall-back commanders should the chain of command falter and thus have authority only in instances of combat. Lieutenants are clad in full Company Steel and are expected to own and break their own steed. Captain Captains within Caer Bann act as the head of Company divisions and are tasked with leading men on most missions. Captains, observable by their full armor and sigils, are the ones most likely to lead their squadrons into the chaos of battle. Duties of Captains include training, recruitment and the execution of contracts. Current Captains, as it stands, consists of Robert Rovin II [Zhukov__] and Sigemaer Wodansson [Cranky_Varangian]. General The General of Caer Bann acts as the martial right-hand of the Governor General and oversees most military matters. Tasked with general recruitment and training, it is expected of the Marshal to ensure that Companymen are disciplined, busy and employed. Duties of the Marshal include recruitment, the seeking of contracts, training and moral reinforcement. The Current Marshal, as it stands, is the honorable Honeycut [Generalstang838]. Governor General The Governor General of Caer Bann acts as both civil and martial administrator of the Company and the lands which the Company owns. The Governor General thusly acts as the de jure head of the Company and has ultimate say in contract acceptance, rejection and military decisions. The Governor General’s duties include ratifying promotions, contracts and maintaining order within Company grounds. The current Governor General, as it stands, is the honorable Richard de Reden [Littlefleeper]. APPLICATION NAME: AGE: GENDER: RACE: [OOC] DISCORD:
  19. “Every tale ends with sadness Flora, no knight’s tales end happily ever after” The night was cool, on the sixteenth of Snow’s Maiden, 1728. The wind howled in the far north, and an old wandering knight patrolled the road, looking for something. That something, was a long awaited battle with a fellow man of honor; a man who’s blood boiled proudly under the right circumstances. These two men, as fate would have it, would meet up as they both traveled opposite directions; on a road less traveled. The first man, an olden knight by the name of Ironwood, and the second, by the name of Gawain Harkness; roughly a century before this meeting their ancestors fought an eternal battle that was left unsettled. These two men, however, had a choice. would they end the feud, or would they leave it unanswered? Ajax Ironwood the third’s tale would be a long and mostly boring tale of a man born from a knight and a noblewoman, in the year of our lord 1666. His upbringing was ended abruptly at the disappearance of his mother and father, leading him to be taken care of by mercenaries. Once he could wield a blade, he trained from that point on to be what he saw his father to be; a strong and gallant knight. At about the age of fifteen, his mercenary band moved to the north of the realm, and took in more orphans. Ajax found himself leading these orphans like a big brother; something he was also neglected of, as prior to his knowledge, his brothers were taken from him due to war. Ten years passed, and Ajax found himself leading the orphans to what was known as the ‘Iron Brigade’. This would be, however, Ajax’s first downfall. The Brigade was seasoned; ready and willing. The soldiers he had known to be brothers, uncles and friends were ready for battle; which they were victorious at. Many victories later, and their first, and final, loss was had. At the command of the ‘Iron Lord’, the brigadiers charged into an enemy shield wall; an outdated formation that was easy to destroy with head on assaults. Despite this, the enemy brigands countered the brigade’s charge, slaughtering half of the brigade in the process. A full retreat was on, but only one man survived; that man bearing the burden of defeat and loss on his shoulders. Not only did he lose his brothers in arms, but he lost a wife, and child. It was unclear to him if they escaped, or had died; and that unknowing would eat away at him for his entire life. Time would test the young man; and he found himself in a knightly troupe; as a squire. Unable to bear the burden of battle; he would do tasks for the assigned knight that seemed unremarkable; such as smiting from dawn to dusk; as well as maintaining the steeds. The young, defeated Ajax would eventually rise to knighthood under proper guidance; however the man who knighted him would soon find himself dead; due to a foolish war between family. Despite many failures and horrid things happening to the young man, he survived countless years until he came home to Avalain. He had not seen the city in almost his entire life; he had family that was adopted by his now deceased older brother, and to what he knew, a lover, in Warwick castle. A knight only did indeed, know how to love another knight. Dame Diana would be the only person Ajax kept dearly in his heart, aside from his niece Flora. All seemed well, until that current family of his started to hate him; Flora and Diana being the only two who remained at his side. This would turn the man’s blade in service to King Pierce, a noble and loving king who was a paragon of true virtue and honesty. He never had much dislike for the king, and would have given his own life for His Majesty. One thing recovered from Ajax’s body was a Curonian pin; it was engraved with the Devereux crest. Ajax kept true to an oath his ancestor’s made; serving until death. This in fact, leads to his death. The duel with Gawain Harkness. Their blade clashed, the two swordsmen fought with honor and skill; despite the one’s age catching up to him. The knight’s blade was damaged, yet in could pierce the finest of plate; and the young noble was all too aware of this. They traded blows, until Gawain drew first blood; going for the left leg of the old knight. Despite the injury, he stood strong and tall, piercing his right arm heavily with a forward lunge; then barrelled his shoulder and blade into Gawain; the attack slashing his eye in a mistaken attempt for a shove. This error; costed one knight his life; as Gawain blindly swung his blade. Ajax attempted to parry it, but the blade he carried was too damaged to hold; causing the noble’s blade to pierce his plate slightly, causing a shift in momentum. With this shift, the blade rips into the old knight; his vision fades as it does.... The knight drops his blade, falling to the ground. He was to croak his last words; which were not of hate, but gladness. The knight thanked his friend, and rival, and asked him to deliver his armour and blade to his son; assuming he had lived. Gawain, despite his injury, carried the knight’s body to Avalain, delivering him to the church there, with a note. The note, was a simple note, asking that GOD and country would remember the soul that was once known, as Ajax. Attached would be a short will, wishing to end the Ironwood noble bloodline from Curonia and revoking all oaths it once carried. ((OOC It was fun experiencing all of that rp; which was all throughout one of my favorite characters of LOTC. For those of you who know me to play Ajax II and III; I did that because I wanted an older experience of when I first joined and boy; did I get that. 20. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=last+goodbye+lotr&view=detail&mid=1D76EA199550E8EDA2C81D76EA199550E8EDA2C8&FORM=VIRE [!] Eric would sit himself atop his bed, humming to himself as he looks out the window. The night would have been full of laughter like curon nights were always, until he heard a sound hitting the window behind him. He turns himself around and notices a dead messenger pigeon with a note attached to its feet. Eric would open the window and take the note from off the bird's foot and what catches his eye first is the official seal of curon on the letter. To Erics surprise inside the note be an official call to arms. Eric would have been sent on a mission Like always Eric would obey his king and begin gathering his armour and supplies for the trip. The next day Eric would set off on horseback and wouldn't be seen for awhile. Days turned into weeks, weeks turned to months, before one day the sound of hooves could be heard on the path leading into curon. It would be the very horse Eric set off on his mission on. But one thing would be different, atop the horse would not be Eric's body, but instead it would be his corpse, laying lifeless atop the animal. The armour Eric wore would have about a dozen holes and slashes. The brave knight that served his kingdom for so many years, and who was loyal for so many wars, was dead…. Usually the nights of curon would usually be filled with noises, laughter coming from the tavern, crickets chirping from the park, the sound of boots hitting the stone paths. But this night was different. The tavern would be silent, the crickets wouldn’t make a noise, the roads would be empty. On Montagne lane stood Eric’s house, a single candle lit on his desk. It too would be silent, the bed where someone once slept, would be empty. On Eric’s desk would be a stack of papers, a journal that was not finished, and never would be. Next to Eric’s journal would be a small leather book, the book would be opened to the first page. “Curon is a bear, a bear that has grown, from a cub struggling to stand up, to a brave and respected boar. This bear stands strong, stronger than everything that attempts to bring it down. It thrives in a world full of different cultures, full of different nations and races trying to survive. “ “I write this in advance for I have no idea when the end is to come. I write this peacefully of my own will. I write this as my little story, for whoever finds this notebook, and for whoever they shall show it to. I came to curon when it was only a tent camp, I watched it grow just like the bear cub. I stood by it with many others and guided it on its path. I fought many battles alongside this bear. I stood by it until my end. . .” “To those I hold dear, I wish for you to not remember how I die or my death itself, I wish for you to remember the times we spent. Times we spent whether it be good or bad. I wish for you to remember me not for what I did in my life, but for who I was and who I became during it. “ [!] The writing next would be written in an unusual style. It seems each letter is tilted to the right. The last sentence would appear to be pressed deep into the notebook’s pages, much darker than the text above. To the steward that finds this book, please show it to the people I knew. Please show it to them so that it may fill them with a slight bit of happiness. Tell them that my job is done and that there will be no goodbyes, because goodbyes mean going away and going away means forgetting. [!] Below the text would depict a sketch of a polar bear cub. (ooc Thank you everyone who helped me with Eric, this was a fun character to play) PS I know I said boar, look up the term for adult bear
  21. If you are interested in playing the mother or grandmother to my character please either reply to this thread or send me a msg in-game (ItsRainingRupees) or on Discord (LSPrimal#0002). Mother Character Profile: Yvvaeta de Savin (nee Varodair): Race: Human Age: 50 Subculture: Adunian Marital Status: Widow Occupation: Glass Craftsman Children: Exelia de Savin Physical Description: A 5’9 woman with a hourglass figure, light-green eyes, pale skin and a above-average muscular build. Her years of being a glass-blower have built her upper-body strength tremendously, though the death of her husband has made her normally youthful appearance somewhat aged and tired. Notes: I am currently working on a skin for her and will edit this post to attach it. However, if you’d like to make your own skin or alter the one I will make that is perfectly fine. Because Yvvaeta is Adunian, she looks a lot younger than a normal 50 year old would. People often mistake her as her own daughter’s sister. Benefits of taking on this role: Besides asking you to attend certain events you will be allowed to go with this character as you please and continue her story. I will provide a room for you in a manor and seek additional housing for you in Athalia (where Yvvaeta grew up and raised Exelia), in addition to a glass shop in which you will profit from in Athalia. (I still need to set these things up.) Access to the Duchy of Vintas, in which Exelia is a Steward, where active RP will be taking place. (Once it’s built soon.) A prominent role in Exelia’s Astronomy Guild. And finally, connection to the noble House de Savin. Grandmother character profile: Amelia Varodair: Race: Human Age: 70 Subculture: Adunian Marital Status: Married to Hartwin Varodair Children: Yvvaeta Varodair Physical Description: A 5’8 woman who has a gentle face and petite facial features, she has worn but bright skin and medium-green eyes. Amelia’s light-brown hair is long and oddly healthy looking for her age. Notes: Here is the link for her skin: https://www.planetminecraft.com/skin/lotc-don-t-use-base-skin-for-character/ (You are allowed to alter this as you like, I didn’t do the greatest job anyways.) Similar to Yvvaeta’s note, Amelia is old but looks like she’s in her 40’s. Benefits of taking on this role: Everything listed in Yvvaeta’s benefit note applies to Amelia as well. I have a player who is going to be playing Amelia’s husband, Hartwin.

  24. Aestian culture. (big thank you to chaotikal for his template) Introduction to the Culture: If you’d like to make a character, and join the tribe, send me a PM on the forums and I’ll be glad to help, and as soon as we get enough people, we will apply for a Tier 1. If you want to see this culture evolve, join us! Aesti culture is mostly based off of Finnic tribes of the Neolithic and Mesolithic periods. The goal is to develop and expand this culture to maybe one day becoming a popular choice among new players. (this post is bound to change so expect an edit so more information could be added about this culture.) (and keep in mind this is a WIP) Aesti is a culture that has it’s roots in the landscapes beyond the mountains, where cartographers didn’t dare venture to, in the northern wastelands of Arcas, no written records, or depictions in manuscrips of the Great Library exist of this presumably new, yet undiscovered culture. History: Aestian culture starts with the chief of Lumi, Kristofer, who leads a small tribe in the desolate winter wasteland with his wife Gwendolyn, which was outcast from her previous tribe, who rejected her for having a more independant attitude. This new culture brings a more freer and less feudal option to new players and old ones who want a tribal experience, with human characters, and the opportunity for people to make history! Language: Aesti, being very similar to Common, has some words of it’s own, a heritage from ancient times: Some examples include: Hei, Tere – Hello. Mitte, Hüva, Head aega – Goodbye, bye. Tänan – Thanks, Thank you. Jah – Yes. Ei – No. Kurat or Raisk (curse word) – Damn, hell. Sina, Sinu – You, Yours. Mulle, Minu – for me, Mine . Hea, Halb – Good, Bad. Head ööd – Good night. Head päeva – Good day. Hästi – Well, good. Poiss – Boy. Tüdruk – Girl. Mees – Man. Naine – Woman. Juht – Chief. Kallis – Dear. (feel free to ask for more.) Common Traits: Aestians don’t have a sparse ethnicity, they’re very pure northerners. A typical Aestian man would be quite tall, with a burly build, blonde, or black hair. His eyes would be shades of light blue, blue or, more rarely, gray or blue-silver. Men: A beard is a standard facial feature of Aestian men, which is a sign of power, fertility and charity. Some older tribesmen have a beard braid. Hairstyles aren’t of much value in Aestian culture, long or short hair for men is common. Again, braids are common on older tribesmen. Women: However, tribeswomen value their hair, keeping it lush and silky. Long hair is a sign of femininity and beauty. Women are to be considered equal due to their natural, and societal responsabilites. It is said that Aestian women can, with enough training, beat a trained man in hand to hand combat. Society: Traditionally, Aestian society is based on a tribal government. It’s lead by a Chief (Juht in Aesti), and at death, the oldest child of the Chief becomes Chief, regardless of the child being a boy or girl. To address a Chief, one would use “Kallis Juht..” or ”Juht..” Warchiefs are frowned upon. Behaviour: Aestians are very secluded people, they’re very wary of strangers, be it from other tribes or nations. They tend to stick with their friends and family, and reach out to others in times of need. They like to keep their conversations concise and clear. Small talk is avoided in public, as it’s considered as a waste of time. Every Aestian is expected to work, due to the harsh conditions and their small numbers. Elders are an exception to this rule, due to their physical (in)capabilites but most importantly the importance of preserving their knowledge. Food: Aestian food is quite basic. It’s composed of tubers such as potatoes or yams wich are either grown in a field or inside of a bag or barrel, due to the land being frozen most of the year. If grown in a field, the potatoes are sown 3 inches (or 8cm) into the ground to keep the potatoes from freezing, and thus dieing. Carrots are also common, due to them being a source of vitamin C, wich is used to cure and prevent scurvy. Pork and fish are the most common meats in Aestian cuisine, along with their smoked variants. Dairy products aren’t very diverse either, butter and milk (which can be fermented to extend shelf life) are most common. Cereals, with the excpetion of winter wheat, aren’t planted or consumed. Festivities: Saunas: At every end of a Saint’s Week, Aestians gather in a room which is heated to very high temperatures thanks to a fire that would be roaring for atleast 2 hours before entering the sauna (~90°C or ~194°F) in which they can discuss important matters, or just relax with friends and family. A common thing to do is to jump in some near freezing-point water or snow after getting out of the sauna. The room is made from wood, and the furniture too. Sometimes water is thrown onto the heating element to create steam. Clothing: For everyday use, most of Aestian clothing would be made of furs from various animals, capes, coats, headwear and boots are generally made from fur. Underwear such as shirts, tunics is either made from wool, or flax, a costly alternative to wool due to the climate Aestians live in. Architecture: Aestian houses are cheap, and fast to build and require little maintenance. Materials like dirt, thatch, wood, stone are very common in the style of Aestian architecture. The roof is generally made from dirt which can freeze and form a permafrost layer, the house is quite short in height. (the typical house is very similar to a Icelandic turf house.) Walls around a camp or settlement can be built out of Stone and Ice. In some cases, dirt mounds are made when other materials aren’t easily accessible. Religion: Animism is the common faith among Aestians, however, some Aestians simply have no faith due to their straightforward lifestyle. Science or rationalism isn’t a notion used by Aestians in the early stages of the culture. Aestians learn through mistakes, and knowledge is passed on through elders. Military: A military of Aestian origin would consist of small raiding parties, avoiding big battles and favoring small engagements. A warspear, a round shield would be the standard issue weapons. Slings are a popular choice for ranged attacks and hunting small game. For the richest warrior, who could afford to wear armor used helmets, metal armor made of chainmail, and lamellar, which consisted of iron plates sewn together. Lower-status Aestian warriors also used layers of quilted cloth, such as linen or wool, to protect the body during battle. Aestian warriors are lead by the Commander, which in war, would shout the orders at them and be in the frontline of the battle. A modern and organized army would defeat an Aestian party pretty easily on foreign soil. The tables turn if Aestians are defending, due to the terrain on which they train which gives them a considerable advantage against the enemy.
