Shavalyoth, Daemon of Lies, Secrets, and Plots [i do not own this art, nor do I know who originally made it. I claim no ownership.] “For long I have watched, waited, listened to you mortals run about, speaking of your crimes against one another. It would be apt to say that I have taken an… interest in your lives. Not the day-to-day basics of which you dull creatures have set yourselves up to be. I am interested in the dark, secret plots you have made to conspire against one another. These are my spheres of power; lies and secrets. It is even unknown to me as to why you mortals decided to bring such things into creation. Perhaps it came from the corruption that brought your peoples to their knees. Perhaps it was inherent in your Creator the whole time. Regardless of this fact, I have dabbled in the secrets and lies of you mortals for as long as there have been mortals. I have perfected the ways of secrecy and silence. Something I have passed onto you mortals, for good or ill I cannot declare. Yet, it has mostly worked in my favor. It has made secrets and lies and plots abundant in your pitiful plane of reality. And each and every last one will be mine, regardless of which you agree to it or not.” - Exert from a cult book describing the first words of the daemon heard by mortals. BASICS: Little is known of Shavalyoth, Lord of Lies. They would be considered a lesser Daemon, as their direct interaction with the world has been for many thousand years, slim to none. However, one thing can be said about this being for certain are that, without a doubt, they are one of the Daemons that are the most interested in the affairs of mortals. It is said to be beyond comprehension of the minds of the lesser creatures that live upon this plane as to the reasoning behind the daemon’s interests. It could be assumed that their interest in the affairs of mortals could be malicious in some respects. What being would willfully take them, and even in this case, proclaim to be the daemon of the more dark parts of mortal life? The answer could be in the most simple of ways. It could be that they are simply bored. Though some would claim that it would be impossible for such a being to ever find boredom, but given that most exposed aenguldaemons have clear goals and even personalities, it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility for this to be such. But regardless of this, they seem to not be amused by acts of chaos or dubious behaviors, insanity is one of the least-loved things for this daemon, and those blessed by him are rendered as sane as possible. Most of the time. In fact, the holy book of this cult claims that the first mortal to ever hear the words of the Lord of Lies was rendered unthinkably sane and logical. Such was the realm of his sanity and logical behavior, that he could readily take the secrets and lies of others and find the truth. Though it is unknown if this is, in fact, the truth. The daemon has not made any remark on this matter, and it is doubtful that it ever will. It also should be noted that such a being doesn't seem to care for cult worship. If at all, it seems to more business arrangement between the two beings in question. The priest would gather as much information (all of which would hopefully be secrets and lies), and give it to their god. What they get in return varies. The most common request was the truth about a subject. Say, for instance, the truth of their lineage, where they were born, etc. Yet what must be known is that this Daemon doesn't magically know EACH secret and lie ever created; it has attempted to build a long line of spies to receive it. Though the knowledge it has accumulated is monumental. RELIGIOUS BACKGROUNDS: Their religious teachings are not as strict as most other aenguldaemon cults’, but there are three basic guidelines: First Command: Know thyself; If you do not know your inner secrets and thoughts, then you are of no use to the Overwatcher. You must know yourself to know others. Without this, your use to our lord is null. Second Command: Secrets and lies are currency; gather all the information of everyone you may be in direct contact with. Be it a lover, your children, a friend – it matters not. What does matter is the gathering of those thoughts that will be of use to the Keeper of Secrets. Third Command: Respect all, understand all; the most difficult step towards our Lord is the acceptance, respect, and understanding of our surroundings. Be clouded not by hatred or disgust, for everything has a place. It is our duty to help our Lord discern what place those parts might keep. The group strives to, at large, keep themselves unknown, hidden. This requires them to not make unnecessary violence towards other beings. This raises interest, something that would possibly bring their daemon’s web of information toppling down. As to how it gathers followers, it seems to be that the being seduces those that feel hopeless, unknowing into the temptation of having knowledge and (to a point) a measure of control over them. Though it is also known to ensnare the ambitious, knowledge-hungry individuals. It is said that it only allows those that it feels to be useful to hear its name, or know of it. Those that do are usually brought into the fold of the cult it has gathered. It is believed that this Daemon has not created an afterlife of any sort, and allows the souls to go where they please. They care not for them. They have expended their use to the Lord. APPEARANCE: With the miniscule amount of evidence as to the appearance of this daemon, what can be said is that they, when in physical form, have no gender whatsoever. Thus the use of gender pronouns is frowned upon in the religion. It is said that it appears as an elven individual with purple skin, purple eyes, and black hair. The face of this physical manifestation is always hidden. Always secret. Though what can be said about the eyes is that they glow with unnatural light, as if it were shedding light upon the secrets of all it saw. It is often cloaked in some mysterious, dark fabric that seems to give off no light, like a void around it. The odd times they had been seen as an animal was in a variety of forms; a rat, a bat, a crow, a hound that was seemingly blind, a snake with pitch black scales and knowing eyes, and even an octopus of a massive size with multiple, sinister eyes. SPECIAL MAGICS: Nothing can be truly said about the magics that this daemon would bestow upon its devote, rather than that it gives them an air of logic about them, rendering most sane (to the extent that is possible). Though the sanity and logical part isn't always certain... sometimes they stay as they were - insane and illogical. Regardless of this, they also seem to be quite charismatic, to the point where they could lie about most things and have it taken as truth. Yet, given that this daemon is kept secret (for the most part), clerics are quite rare, to the point of which that it could be unheard of. It can be said that most have - to varying levels of skill - have been known to use illusion magics. Though this is simply a useful school of magic, not necessarily required. By far the most useful ability for the clerics of the daemon is the ability to speak. Not that speaking, you dingus! The ability to speak to a singular individual without being heard by anyone around them.* They also could make an enchantment that would effect and object that would cause the user/wearer to go silent. But if enchanted on a weapon (which is rare), it would cause the wounded individual to lose their voice - if only for a limited time. But by the time the enchantment had worn off, the deed would have most likely been done. Such is the abilities of the clerics of the Keeper of Secrets. OOC INFORMATION: Like I said, this daemon keeps itself and would rather keep the cult that it has a secret, thus keeping with the theme of lies and secrecy. The daemon (and in extension, the cult), would not attempt what-so-ever to cause upheaval with the world. Those that are a member of the cult and attempt to cause chaos with bringing secrets to light will be punished, possibly executed. If this lore is accepted, Shavalyoth will be added to the wikia as a daemon. All individuals interested in becoming a priest or follower of this daemon must first find a reasoning as to WHY and HOW they might hear of this. You may PM me IG or on the boards if you are interested in joining it. And the choice for your character to become sane/logical is up to you, truly. Just note that their influence over the powers given to them will be lessened if not sane. And members of the cult will be discouraged from killing without reason (so that means to random pvp/murders!). It desires, along with the cult, to be secret. Having unnecessary deaths would be chaotic. The use of They/It/Them in this lore is because this daemon is completely genderless.
