An ultimatum was offered to have it be settled by handing over the dwarves in question or to accept honourable combat on the archway to let valour choose the victor. Otherwise, the Duke would return to the Midlands and choose an escalation of the conflict. Grand Marshal Sigrun Ireheart and former Marshal Vithar Frostbeard marched out of the gates with a force of their own, amassing to be about 2500 dwarven legionnaires to meet them in honourable combat. Both parties fought valiantly but after an exchange of arrowfire and a small skirmish, the dwarves gained Dungrimm’s favour and routed the enemy forces, capturing the Duke of Adria, Markus Sarkozic. After the duke’s capture, he was let go safely under the agreement that all outstanding issues were to be resolved as result of the dwarven valour shown on the battlefield. 4. TWICE CURSED A POV post by the young Lady Viktoria of Stran. Viktoria wondered if she was twice cursed. She never thought much of the first, her family's curse, even as it did tend to affect her day to day life but now.. Now, she stood by her youngest sister as her heart ached and her stomach churned. She explained what wardship was, but did not explain its reasoning. War. The child had wished she could say the war never affected her, but she knew of it as long as she could remember. One of her first memories was herself at the mere age of three, toddling along behind her eldest brother within the refugee camps of Aaun as they chased after a Goat. She beamed and laughed, not knowing any better as threats were made upon her family's livelihood. And so it continued. One moment after another. Her mothers title stripped away, and thus her heirship in turn. She had become simply the Lady Viktoria then, and it took her time to find her bearings. And then the end of the world, or that of the land of the Almaris as she knew it came and a whole new war began. It was different, it took away what she knew as a ‘home’, if you can call a refugee camp home and simply sent her into another refugee camp, one in Savoy. Time passed, and she found herself in a new land and this time, in a true to GODANI home. Vaska. --- Things were looking up, or so it had seemed. She went from place to place, all kept succinctly within the Kingdom of Aaun. Vaska, Minitz, Whitespire. Repeat. But it became her new life and one she came to enjoy. She did not live in a tent but instead had a room. One she could call her own, with paintings decorating the walls, and embroidered pillows of her own making strewn everywhere. A day came, though, in which she visited Whitespire with her eldest brother. Viktoria prattled on, as she often did, about the interview she did for the mayoral candidate just earlier that day. She was excited to be a field reporter for the Aaunic Herald! Istvan listened, and poked fun as siblings often did, as the duo paused by the candidates booth. That excitement soon faded. First a man, then multiple came to them, claiming she had committed a crime! Viktoria had no idea what crime she could have committed, and the men did not wear the armor of any of the places of Aaun. In fact, she did not recognize their armor from anywhere. She tugged on her brother's hand, some anxiety there, as the small girl of thirteen wished to get away. Her heart pounded, frantic and not sure what to expect. They grabbed at her, yanking her from her brother who soon pulled her back and a fight broke loose. It was all such a blur and it all happened so fast. A sharp pain came, having taken something sharp, she couldn’t even be sure what sort of weapon it was; straight to her gut. Viktoria collapsed upon the floor, and she cried for her brother, bony hands pressed over the injury at her waist. The pain was debilitating, and the last thing she could remember was one of her fathers men stepping in front of her prone form, standing before her. The next she’d awoken, everything had hurt and blurry faces were seen before her. Her brother, and her family were not among them. She was in the Minitz clinic. Her brother in the Whitespire clinic. The siblings were separated, unsure if the other were alright. --- It took some time to heal fully. Her movements were careful, and she was not allowed to step foot outside of her home during then. Vaska had become Stran sometime before her injury. A great pride that made her beam, further so when the King so graciously accepted her petitioned gift, as she’d improved in her embroidery. And finally, some time later, she was healed. She didn’t go anywhere without her guard anymore, even if she were with one of her family members and things seemed to be getting back to something better. The bandits, though, they kept coming back. Always causing trouble, and always seemingly running the moment things had gone bad, attempting to entrap those back in their homeland; Adria. And so the day of the royal wedding came, and the Lady Viktoria made way for the basilica with her guard - and soon afterwards the palace. She took note of her dear friend, Leutwin who seemed to be nowhere to be seen after that of the wedding and she went in search of him about the palace as the feast took place. There was no sign of him, the young girl of now fourteen unaware of her friend being tortured by those who sought to take her previously. And so she explored, and she spoke to others, until she came to a standstill within the palace gardens. Her father and the Princess Adeline spoke and a deal was made. She is to be warded. She would move to the palace. She would see her family less and less. Why? War. Viktoria wondered if she was twice cursed.
  5. The Occupation of Redclyff Let it be known that on the eve of the 12th of Snow’s Maiden 130 SA. the forces of the Halflings, Adunians and Norlanders, with the support of a few Adrians and Talarnorians marched forth to the vile child-eaters of Redclyff. Without resistance, the Halfling force and their allies seized their capital. 6. [♪] It was a sunny day in the realm of the Argent Sun. A Holy Knight, named August Jazloviecki-Buckfort was sitting in his old armchair that remembers the golden era of Savoy, while smoking his cigar. The sun was shining on his old, hairy face and the man simply smiled at the distant star. He was old, he sensed that his end would come sooner or later. He puffed his cigar one more time before extinguishing it and standing up “It’s time” he thought to himself before walking back inside the old Triglav Keep. The man put his sword on the clothed table and prayed for a moment. Once he was sure of his intentions he went down to the cellar and took out a barrel of Uruk Guzzoline. “I once cheated death, it’s due time to embrace it” he said to himself before walking out with the said barrel and putting it on his horse. It took several days for the Knight to reach the heartlands that have been like a second home for him ever since his beloved Savoy fell. There was one thought in his head - Dumapalooza. So as he did exactly what he has planned - August approached the gate, and greeted his nephew Aleksander Wilhelm with a smile, as none of his relatives knew of his intentions. He went in carrying the barrel in his bag, after that the Old Knight went for a peaceful walk toward the building, while entering he moved through the crowd to find himself standing near the fireplace that was close to the podium where the candidates for a new Duke of Adria were standing. He hesitated a bit, but after a short prayer he glanced at the gathered Adrians and opened the barrel. The smell was quite distinct, though due to the crowd it didn’t spread quickly. August raised his arms and poured all the content of the barrel over himself. He was certain that his decision was righteous and thus this action will be the best and only possible way to purify his soul. Moments later the elderly man reached into the fireplace and immediately caught on fire. The crowd turned their heads towards the Knight but it was too late. Holy Knight screamed his last words as his body stood in flames… His goal was simple - hit the representatives of House von Draco, enemies of his relatives and of his own. Then the most unexpected of all possible things happened - a poor recruit stepped in to stop the burning Knight. He could not stop therefore he rushed into the boy, causing burn damage to his clothes and skin. He did not succeed, but he tried. His duty was fulfilled and his soul cleansed. The last Argent Legionnaire, last living Savoyard and last Jazloviecki Holy Knight dropped dead as his body burned in agony. August Mikołaj Jazloviecki-Buckfort lived 109 years, now he departed on his last journey, to find eternal peace and finally reconnect with his lost friends and family.
  7. Memories of Lord Aleksander Wilhelm from his time spent in the Adrian captivity. [ ♪ ] It was early evening, I was just enjoying my time in Neu Brandthof as is my custom. Bored with the silence, I decided to take a ride into the forest. Convinced of my safety, I mounted my black horse and rode out through the gate towards the other side of the river. My freedom lasted less than five minutes, as just over the bridge I heard a whistle and an Adrian Greycloak stood next to me with a spear in his hand. Naturally, I stopped my horse - I had no armour on and no sword at my belt. That wasn't good enough for that greedy Adrian dog, who shouted to me if I was one of the Minitzers. My explanations were of no use - I was attacked and forced to defend myself. God will be the judge as this impious brigand attacked a young boy of noble birth that clearly did not mean any harm to him nor his comrades. The loss was certain, for after all what could a fourteen-year-old do against an adult soldier? Defeated, I was tied up and put on a horse. My walk of shame began. I was taken to Velec where, for a long while, my captor could not find anyone to put "this Minitzer spy" in the dungeon. Of course, the local population came to see this "Minitzer spy" that I supposedly was and there were also those righteous people, whom God will save when their time comes, who wanted to free me for it was immoral to hold me captive. In the end what would a young man do, whose only thoughts were of revelry and freedom? - little if I dare to say so myself. Then I was given the honour of looking into the eyes of my grandfather's enemies. Members of House von Draco surrounded me but had no clue of who I was until the time of my questioning came. A kind-hearted soldier, a man called Renata, stood up for me. He did not want to allow them to do me any harm - before and during the interrogation, and I have promised him that he will be in my prayers. A red-haired priest, Father Walter, also came to see what the commotion was. In my eyes he is probably the rightest of all righteous Adrians. He defended me together with Renata and some woman whose name I didn't really hear until the end of my interrogation. Seeing that I knew nothing nor could I be of any use to anyone - some agitated for my release. This state of matters changed when another man of von Draco's line showed up. He was the one they called "Marshal". Even though he looked very scary to me, he treated me kindly - that is what I thought at least. Oh what a mistake that was, thinking that everyone would treat me like a human being, a living and feeling being deserving of at least a measure of respect. I was kept in the rain, at a table in the courtyard during the interrogation. Only when it stopped pouring and I was completely wet, ready for lung disease and certain death, was I taken to the dungeon. My real nightmare has begun. I was promised the safety and presence of Father Walter, this Marshal and unfortunately my pushy captor. I had no other choice but to comply. On my way to Velec, during my interrogation and once I was in the dungeon I kept on praying. Praying to God for my quick release and to be in one piece. There were five people in the dungeon with me - Father Walter, my captor, the Marshal and two mercenaries, from the looks of it one was from the south and the other was from Tetsugawa. The southerner entered the cell with me, which was quite strange, but I considered it a safety measure. Once Marshal left to check on something, things started to get weird - I was gagged and one of those mercenaries knocked Father Walter out before dragging him away. My kidnapper was shocked, I thought he knew how it would end. Then someone came, a woman, and everyone except of the man who was in the cell with me left. I thought that I was safe, but not for long. Two von Draco women appeared at the bars that separated me from them. They kept on insulting me because of my birth. What a dull life a person must have, who pours their aggression over an old family feud onto a young man, bound, soaking wet and with gagged mouth. The anger of her and some other lass of her blood had reached its peak once I did not respond to their insults, but instead prayed to my great grandfathers Venerable Borys Jazloviecki and Venerable Ulrich von Alstreim - true and exemplary Canonists. They were clearly with me. Lady von Draco had no keys to the cell! I laughed in my thoughts but it did not end there as she tried to bash and then lockpick the sturdy iron door. Her last attempt failed and the lock jammed - I was safe, for now. They kept threatening me with death for the next hours, but my faith in God was too strong. I did not listen to their words and threats because I believed in the Lord's defence. When they got tired and left, I fell asleep and woke up in the forest. I was free, truly free. I don't know what happened to Father Walter, to Renata or to other good people who wanted to help me and opposed their superiors. I will pray for you and if God will allow me to repay you for this kindness, I shall do so when this war is over. God be praised and savage Adrians be damned, Vigour in Faith. Through all I prevailed,
  8. The empty Haenseni cells ✚A Dungeon's no Place for a Draco✚ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The sound of steel being drawn by the hundreds exploded in echo throughout the Haenseni church as the Duke of Adria was condemned for many of the same crimes the church itself had accused him of committing. Though amongst the hundreds of brainwashed foreigners gathered for the trial, none of them even gave that a thought. Within moments, a battle erupted inside the holy walls of that church, hundreds of men swarmed the few Adrians that had gathered in hopes of guiding the agreed armistice to peace, and attacked. Among those few Adrians were a handful of the von Draco’s, who valiantly attempted to escort the Duke and a few other fellow Adrians into a building in the square, which conveniently happened to have access to a deep basement. Within those walls the von Dracos managed to evade the Haense rally, but it seemed this was only delaying the inevitable. They fled into the sewers, in an attempt to escape, however.. “This city seems to be all sewage..” Helena said as she and her family traversed blindly, her hushed voice echoing against the walls in the seemingly infinite depths of the sewers, though she was not surprised in the slightest - but quickly the many twists and turns led them all to a dead end, where they hid for hours, praying not to be seen. But their prayers were not heard, a stroke of even greater bad luck had hit. Two unnamed scouts spotted them in their place of hiding, and the fight swiftly resumed with the Draco’s launching a barrage of arrows and crossbow bolts into the bottlenecked entrance. The Dracos eventually advanced from their hiding spot, and fought well and hard. Their steel clashed against the foreign horde, though it was fruitless; they were greatly outnumbered - over one hundred coalition soldiers piled into the sewers pursuing the six Dracos, and eventually it became too crowded - making it impossible for any more maneuvers. They were captured after a lengthy chase, and led to cells one by one. Though the wit and will of the Dracos did not falter, no matter how many times they were questioned. Days passed, time was seemingly moving at an impossibly slow rate. Eventually the familiar sound of a cell door opening made its way into the otherwise quiet chamber. “You, and you. With me” spoke a guard with his face buried behind a mask, a finger lofting to two select few of the Draco party. Reinolt and Helena were called into the interrogation room, where they were met with an unfamiliar, unexpected, but surprisingly friendly face. An unnamed noble who, after some civilized questioning - for some reason wished to help. It seemed Karosgrad was not completely devoid of critical thinkers, even within its walls there were those who still would listen to logic and reason. The two were led to the upper levels of the building and made their escape through a window - balancing upon the walls of the city and perilously traversing the rooftops in the dead of night, eventually they were able to successfully flee the city and free themselves from their shackles, and head home. Upon arriving home however, they found their city under siege by the same men who’d captured them just days prior! All they could do was watch as the great Adrian people fought back against the horde that outnumbered them, though they did not have to watch for long.. The invaders celebrated an early victory, shouting their nonsense unto deaf ears, whilst the Adrian rally was held up in the keep. After a long and strategic hold in said keep, the eager foreigners were swiftly met with ironic justice as the men and women at arms suddenly advanced - the invaders were slaughtered even with greater numbers, and the survivors fled like dogs. The day was won, and it seemed as if the great Adrian people were undefeatable. The Coalition had schemed and conspired to ambush the Duke and these great people of Adria, and had still failed. The captors escaped, the Duke lived, and their rally was squashed. Though one question still plagued Helena’s mind.. What became of her mother, and the rest of her family still held up within the walls of Karosgrad!
  9. The Greatest Days in Adrian History LO unto the Adrians, Guide my hand, dear Muse, for the excitement of the great humor that possesses me may cause my unfiltered words to slip freely from my mind onto the parchment upon which I write! Tonight I speak of the most daring story that shall grace the history of our nation for a thousand generations- a tale of daring escape, dastardly betrayal, and the triumph of the few over the many! The day began in a church and ended in a church. One in Haense and one in Adria. One of near-defeat and one of clear victory. It was by the Pontiff’s promise of protection that our fearless Duke, good Heinrik Sarkozic, humbly ventured to the halls of the Basilica of Karosgrad, where the trial was to be held for his supposed sins. Although a mockery was made of all who hold justice and piety dear, for the presiding court cared not for the veracity of the trials, nor the Pontiff’s own consorting with the Azdrazi, all who were present knew from the start that the verdict would be rendered guilty. What came as a surprise was the Pontiff’s sentence: death for all. Never had such a thing been levied, especially not on holy ground, yet holiness was no concern for Pontian the Puppet, who bayed for the blood of Adrian women and children within the halls of his church. Thus, a plan was hatched among the crafty few of Adria. The hearty men of Adria, though numbering few, resolved to hold off the great tides of Haeseni, Aaunites, and Balianites when the call was made to kill their Duke of Adria. Though they believed they would all fall, they had a hope that their sacrifice would allow their dear Heinrik to escape to Adria and rally his host. As the tide of bloodthirsty berserkers surged forth, the brave few of Adria stepped up and drove forth. The coalition mass bent, giving enough time for the Duke, donned only in rags as he felt was fitting, to burst out the door. Hopping atop a steed prepared by a friendly city dweller, the Duke rode ahead of the chasing army, laughing and singing as he triumphantly vaulted over the walls and off to safety. As he made his great escape, the rest of the Adrians were quickly surrounded. With their valiant stand having fulfilled its purpose, and needing no reason to fight, they promptly surrendered en-masse. Sir Joseph Vasile and the von Draco family were the principal captives, and they were promptly brought to the dank, fetid cells underneath the city. For days they languished, yet over by Adria, battle had commenced… Neither the Duke nor the Coalition had idled in the days following his escape. Sounding the bells upon his return, good Heinrik rallied his forces, and the people of Velec once again took to the streets. Manning the barricades they had taken to over a year ago, the five-thousand defenders of Adria, missing their Marshal and the fierce von Dracos, sat waiting to meet the seven-thousand five-hundred assembled of Haense, Balian, and Aaun. The two armies met within the streets of the great city, and battle ensued once again for the fate of Velec. For days, the two armies bitterly fought, with soldiers from all armies battling street to street, home to home. However, despite their numbers, the civic pride and ferocity of the Adrians won the day. Routed and broken, the army of the coalition was driven from the city. They fled to their three corners of Almaris, tails between their legs, while our proud Duke stood triumphant once again. When faced honestly, might against might, and not a devilish ruse, the people of Adria would always prevail! However, my tale is not yet ended, for we must return to the fates of our prisoners in Karosgrad, not yet hearing of their comrades’ victory back home. As the brutish guards banged at the cell doors, eagerly awaiting the Adrians’ coming execution, a second great scheme was concocted among Sir Joseph, the von Dracos, and many of the friendly guards that lingered about. False chains were put on the prisoners while they were whisked out and put atop horses rode by friendly faces. Before the Haeseni guards, led by the King of Balian himself, could stop the entourage, the reins were whipped and the prisoners were rode away! Not a single one was slain or left to be captive, for all were broken out that eve. And this concludes my story of the greatest days in the history of our fair country. Two daring escapes! A holy man’s betrayal! A great triumph over the armies of three nations! It is a tale that no minstrel nor poet can concoct, and thus it is left to me to write this cautionary tale to those who wish to test the might of a united Adria, or venture to out-wit the people whose minds are clearer than a smooth crystal and sharper than a razor’s edge. It began in a church, and with God’s help ended in a church.
  10. The Battle of Rolly’s Hill Battered, bruised, but never broken, the people of Adria took to the fields of the Lower Petra awaiting the long-promised battle. Victory would come on their terms now, just as it had over a year ago as the king of Aaun’s army stormed their fair Velec, but were driven out by the defenders atop the barricades. Having hidden for the following months since that defeat, the armies of Aaun fearfully awaited the day when they would be told to march out. That day finally came. Despite their boasts of a great army, only five-thousand took the field of battle for Aaun. An even number flocked to the banner of the Duke of Adria, who gallantly walked out with the infantry, ready to win the day or die trying. His trusty Greycloaks and militiamen of Velec, led by Sir Joseph Vasile, stood proudly at his side as they advanced north. Leonid Vilac and Valentin van Aert made up the left and right flank, respectively, where they and their heavy infantry promised to hold the line and never bend nor break. As the Aaunic army emerged from Minitz, they positioned themselves against the River Reden, catching their backs against its banks. A fatal flaw, for they would now have nowhere to flee to. As Darius of Myrine, leading the Duke’s vanguard, screamed for the archers to assume their positions, a great duel of arrows began. Back and forth, the two armies fired. However, the Adrian ranks were spread out, while the Aaunic host was bunched together. Beset by projectiles and losing men by the minute, the order was given to charge into the weakest part of the extended Adrian line. It was a trap. Within moments, hundreds of soldiers dropped their bows and drew their swords, surging forth to meet the Aaunic charge. Believing a thin section of the Adrian line to be breakable, the Aaunic army tried to charge through and run them down, but what they failed to see was that it was held by the men of Blackvale, who held firm and gave enough time for the rest of the Adrian host to arrive and surrounded the mass of the Aaunics. The battle lasted mere minutes. Surrounded and cut off from Minitz and Vienne, the Aaunic soldiers were quickly cut down by the more experienced, determined troops of Adria. The king of Aaun and his principal lords were able to make a breakout and flee back to Minitz across the bridge, which was then destroyed, but that was the only mercy that God showed them that day. The Adrian host, tired from battle and blocked from pursuing, returned home victorious. The spark of liberation had grown into a great bonfire and the tyrants had been swept up in its fervor. AVE ADRIA
  11. The Duke’s Peace Offer Please stop writing missives of how you’re going to fight. Just come out and do it, this is getting boring. Heinrik Sarkozic
  12. The Tale of Two ‘Roches The mounted force of Adria stood at the border of Petra, awaiting the signal from Sir Joseph Helvets of Vasile. Through the young marshal’s network of spies, word had reached him that a meeting would be held between the traitor Sigismond Varoche and the Archduchess of Petra. With this information in hand, the knight quickly rallied a cadre of soldiers of Adria. Among them was the Duke himself, riding out donned in his armor. While the King of Aaun may have been content to lounge behind the white walls of his empty city, the Duke of Adria would ride with his men. For several minutes they waited, and waited, and waited. The order was finally given to dismount, and under moonlight they crept through the quiet, sleeping streets of Valfluer. The host went undetected as the comrades-in-arms made their way through the central keep of the city. There was no doubt, Sir Joseph had told them, that the ongoing discussions were to be held in the council chambers. A room that he happened to have the keys to. Darting their way up the spiraling towers of the castle, the men of Adria sprung their trap! Flooding into the council chambers, they surrounded the Archduchess, her council, and the two brothers: Sigismond and Charles Varoche. As quickly as they had entered, the Adrians were soon out of the keep, leaving the stunned Petrans there to wonder what had just occurred. Racing back to Velec, the Adrian party were greeted by cheers as they brought the two traitors back in chains. To an eager crowd, the two men were given their sentences. Sigismond Varoche, displaying some final gasp of honor, died with dignity, offering a prayer to the Lord and insults to the victors that surrounded him. The Aaunic army, after its stunning defeat when it tried to take Velec nearly a year before, was not to come for his rescue tonight. Final words were said, last letters were written, and the Duke of Adria, triumphant again, raised his blade and brought it down on Sigismond’s neck.
  13. The Adrian Declaration of Independence Copies of the missive would be pinned to notice boards around Almaris. To the good Canonists of the world and the people of Adria, The imperialist ambitions of the Aaunic Crown have set within their heads a maddened frenzy. Seeing enemies in all shadows, they have laid their cruel eyes upon us, the good, fair people of Adria, those who have held the southern border while the King of Aaun has sat without an army. Those who have brought trade and life to the kingdom while the streets of the capital remain empty. Those who have invigorated a spirit of Dumacracy and popular government while the central crown seeks to lord over the vassals that keep it afloat. We say no more. Adria has no designs to support the ambitions of the Aaunic King. We simply wish to keep to our own lives, tend to our own crops, and allow our own city to prosper. We wish to leave the world alone and have the world leave us alone, but it is the King of Aaun that wishes to use our blood and toil to expand his realm. He and his council have hardly laid eyes on our prosperous city of Velec, yet from it they desire the plunder that we had already given the kingdom as a whole. With this document, we formally secede from the Kingdom of Aaun so that we may be allowed to rule ourselves, with our customs and traditions unmolested by a Crown that does not care for Adria and its people. We will govern ourselves so that we may be allowed to continue our peaceful growth and prosperity. We have already bested them once in battle as they attempted to storm our city. Another time, as we marched upon the walls of Minitz, they cowered and hid. Our enemy fears us because they have no love or loyalty from their own. Unlike the Alstions, who sought at every turn to use the Sinners’ War as a springboard to launch their ambitions for the Imperial Crown of Philip III, we seek no empire. Unlike the Alstions, who provoked conflict with Haense on numerous occasions, especially during the reign of King Karl III, we have no quarrel with the northmen. Unlike the Alstions, who covet our wealth and strength because of their lack of it, we now build our future with our own hands. Unlike the Alstions, who attempted to plot with rogue agents within Adria to turn the city of Velec over to them, we stand with the people of Adria in defense of our livelihoods. Let it be known that we seek no war with the kingdom and simply request that we be released peacefully from our oaths of vassalage. However, should the King of Aaun desire to march on Adria and burn it, then we will make to the walls of his capital and unseat him. Those who join our ranks will be justly rewarded, while those who remain neutral will go unharmed by our armies. Come what must, We shall see the storm through
  14. THE GREYCLOAK WATCH; THE O’ROURKE REFORMS Written on the 7th of Sigismund’s End, 1912. Ratified and Approved by the Greycloak Administration on the 18th of Tobias’ Bounty, 1913 The Sigil of the Duchy of Adria I. The Restructuring of Ranks Marshal Designated by the Duke of Adria, this position holds supreme authority over the Adrian Armed Forces and personally commands the Greycloak Watch. The Marshal is responsible for the promotion of soldiers and the general overseeing of the watch. Sergeant Sergeants serve as commanding officers of the watch. They’re appointed by the Marshal and oversee different respective areas of the watch known as offices. As of these reforms, there are three established offices: the Office of Information and Logistics, the Office of Recruitment and Training, and the Office of Fitness and Health. Shieldbearer Being a Shieldbearer is the highest honor an Adrian soldier can be afforded before being promoted to an officer position. Shieldbearers are often the strongest warriors of the watch and are commonly equipped with heavy armor to serve as shock infantry in combat situations. Guardsman Guardsman is the first rank Adrian soldiers can be promoted to. Typically, Initiates are promoted to this rank one to two saints week following their enlistment. While performing as a Guardsman, soldiers are allowed to assist their superior officers with recruitment and training of Initiates. Initiate Previously named Recruit, Initiate has taken the place of the base rank all enlisted men are assigned when they enter active duty. During their time as an Initiate, soldiers are typically taught the fundamentals of serving in the watch and are expected to attend all, if not, most trainings hosted by their superior officers. Reservists While they don’t participate in training or receive the benefits an enlisted man would, Reservists play a crucial role in the Adrian military. They form the backbone of the military and are only called into action during times of national or international conflict. While performing active service, Reservists are promoted to the rank of Initiate are expected to preform the daily routines an enlisted men would. II. Benefits of Joining Wages Each soldier is paid saints weekly based on their rank. To qualify for pay each soldier is expected to make their presence known to a superior office (Sergeant or Above) during the Saint’s Week. Attendance is documented. Shieldbearer - 15 Guardsman - 10 Initiate - 5 Lower Tax Rates Each soldier is afforded a half-off tax price on ONE of their properties that reside within the confines of the Free City of Velec. Tax cuts are non-stackable, meaning if two soldiers live together, they can not apply both of their tax rates together and achieve a seventy-five percent reduced price. All soldiers need to contact a steward about applying their tax discounts. Healthcare In cooperation with the Society of St. Catherine's Medical Institute, all enlisted men are provided with free healthcare to treat their wounds and alignments whether they occur as a result of their duty or a result of their off-time. Equipment Every enlisted member of the watch is provided with standard-grade military supplies which include but are not limited to a full set of chain armor, a longsword, a shield, a bow, and arrows. If an enlisted man's supplies are destroyed in battle, they will be replenished. III. Formalities Unlike the Imperial and Haeseni armies of old, the Greycloak Watch places a strong emphasis on brotherhood over uniformity. As such, soldiers are not expected to address their superiors or peers by their ranks or through the use of salutes. Instead, enlisted men are encouraged to address those as Sir or Ma’am or by their noble station if applicable. Additionally, instead of saluting soldiers are encouraged to display an informal greeting such as a slight bob of their head when greeting a superior officer. IV. Training Just as with the social reforms of formalities, the Greycloak Watch training program provides a similar break in social norms. As the average Adrian is taught combative skills from birth, the watch’s training program seeks to reinforce and build upon those skills. All training falls into three distinct categories; Field Training, Combative Training, and Passive Training. Field Training Field Training is the primary training exercise employed by the watch. It consists of on-hand experience where soldiers face real-world combat situations, such as down wild beasts or rogue bandits. An example of Field Training would be the Adrian Bandit Campaign. Combative Training Combative Training consists of honing a soldier's melee and ranged skills against other soldiers. All training of this nature takes place within the confines of Velec and is often trained in the forms of wargames such as Capture the Flag or Infected Tag. Passive Training Passive Training is the most infrequent of the three training exercises. It consists primarily of supportive skills that will aid soldiers on and off the battlefield. Typical skills that are taught in the Passive Training course include first-aid, fletching, blacksmithing, and equestrian care-taking. V. Medals As members of the Greycloak Watch continue to prove their mettle on and off the battlefield, the Greycloak administration has recognized the need to award the sacrifices our soldiers make. Every saints month, soldiers will be decorated with medals that recognize their loyalties and sacrifices to the Duchy. The list of the following medals has been approved by the Office of Information and Logistics for manufacturing and distribution. The Bronze Eagle Embroidered with the dual eagle of Adria, this is awarded to those that partake in at least five skirmishes, three battles, or a siege. This medal distinguishes the superior combative skills displayed by a soldier. It is granted to an individual upon their completion of an aforementioned feat. The Silver Eagle Embroidered with the dual eagle of Adria, this is awarded to those that partake in at least nine skirmishes, five battles, or two sieges. The Golden Eagle Embroidered with the dual eagle of Adria, this is awarded to those that partake in at least fifteen skirmishes, seven battles, or four sieges. 15. A CALL TO SMITHS OF THE REALMS 21 of Harren's Folly, 1911 In all four corners of the known world, there are posters speedily hung by lads in frayed burlap pants and tabards that bear a midnight eagle on quartered fields of red and black. As you approach the tattered parchment, you realize it beseeches the most skilled tradesmen, specifically smiths, to the Adrian lands of Velec. With closer inspection, you read the following: (Friday, February 17th @ 5:00 PM EST) @CharmingCavalierThanks for the amazing graphic and post!
  16. ARMY OF THE TRIDENT, THE WATCH OF ADRIA His Grace’s Grand Army of the Realm of Adria, the Greycloaks of the Karlsfork “Men of Virtue, Soldiers of Fortune” “The horn sounded a third time, and suddenly I knew I would live, and I was muttering soft prayers as the ground shuddered under the boots and shouts of the charging men coming from our rear. For the Greycloaks, at last, had come.” - Journal of a Coalition Soldier, Unknown ON THE WATCH After seeing the merit of a standing guardforce during his tenure in the Atheran capital of Petrus, Duke Hugues var Victor of House Sarkozic commissioned a retinue of watchmen and light infantry as to keep the peace of his ducal seat, Brelus. These humble wardens sooned earned the moniker ‘greycloaks’ for their sweeping steely capes and their honesty in regards to its grey histories; neither one rife with great victories nor great defeats. For this, the Adrian Guard does not parade itself as a bastion of chivalry but instead a crucible of men, rendering steel from dross. Armsmen of the Watch consist of a sizeable portion of Adrian foot in times of war. They are trained as infantry to provide both mass and missile support to Adria’s armies. However, in peace, whilst other militaries squabble in noble politik or delude themselves in mercenary work, the Army keeps discipline through servicing the Novellen County. Whether manning gates, minding crooks, or maiming monsters, the Greycloaks fill the role of local sheriffs to insure the Duke’s peace is upheld. In times of peace, the Armsmen of the Watch maintain His Grace’s realm, building up their swelling numbers, and pass on martial knowledge to the next age of warriors and lords. Ones who have proven themselves to GOD and to Adria are granted the premier lands on the Trident, luscious farms to feed swelling Adrian families and titles to embolden and empower the worthy warriors of Adria. ON HIERARCHY “Above all, the slothful and sinful detest change while the ambitious and diligent revel in it.” - The Book of Saints, Unknown The Adrian Watch maintains the hierarchy set forth by the Vibian Doctrine, a code of military logistics created by the former Imperial Marshal Vibius de Sola and revised later by Lord Paul Sarkozic to apply to the reformed Oreni Legion during the Schismatic Wars of 1490. Armsmen are supplied with feared Adriatic steel and dressed with the infamous grey cloaks that strike terror into His Grace's foes. INITIATE: The new-bloods, those who have yet to earn the privilege to wear the iconic greycloak. Initiates train for weeks on end, drilled by the Disciplinarians and scolded by their superiors until they attain the rank of Armsman. Initiates are granted no pay and receive last-pickings in armaments and armor. SPECIALIZED RANKS DISCIPLINARIANS: Appointed from amongst those men of the rank of Serjeant or higher, the Disciplinarians aid the Brigadier in his drilling of the Greycloaks, and run training sessions in his absence. The Disciplinarians are experienced soldiers who dedicate their peace-time to the maintenance of the combat-readiness of His Grace’s Armsmen and the readying of the Initiates for promotion.
