  1. Excerpt from Djiazecko, Island Continent (Jiah-ZET-sko) Creation of the Continent It began some time before men, elves, dwed, or orc roamed the Mortal Realms. When the Moon broke free from our world, the earthen masses kicked up with it soared around us in the empty above for decades, maybe even centuries. Eventually, all that rock and dirt and silt, not to mention precious materials like aurum, silver, copper, and various kinds of gemstones, had to come back down - our laws of gravity demand it of all things physical. The uprooted masses of earth had churned above our skies, though, and large chunks of orbital debris returned to our side of this coin. Artist's interpretation of Djiazecko from high above, viewing at an angle from the south The old pieces of our world made themselves a new home in the middle of the large ocean far south of the isles of Axios, falling together over the course of a few years into one spot. Though great tidal waves crashed away from this place in the ocean, the result was fantastic. A great island was created from three enormous meteors; the first to fall laid the foundation of the island under the sea. The second settled as the lump of rock that would eventually form the Great Teeth to the north(known to most as the Mei'ral Mountain Range). Finally, the third, and smallest, fell on the southern tip of the newly formed island and, like its northern brother, formed mountains of its own. The difference was, the southern mountains were shallower, and were thus named by the later settlers, 'the Cidoh Highlands' - in reality, they were deserts suspended on rising plateaus. Culture and Religion Inerith'Khan claimed he saw visions in his slumber. He said to everyone that he came across about them. According to the 'Ker prophet, he was being contacted to spread the word: there are gods as old as the bones of the earth, he preached, and they war over our world day and night. The dominant religion in Djiazecko is, to this day, Araikism, a religion that puts three main gods and countless demigods as its main focus. Followers believe that the world we live on is the shell of a hostile multi-dimensional entity, named Djia, hell-bent on destroying the material worlds to be free from its prison. However, two other gods act to keep this event at bay: Luta, the being responsible for throwing meteors at Djia that continue to build the shell around him, and Araik, the creator of life, the ocean, the sky, and all things not in Luta's domain. The name 'Djiazecko' means 'Djia's Wound' in their tongue. Appropriate, because they view the island to be made of the three largest meteors to ever fall on the world, and in the heart of the mountains, the volcano Phinozecko, meaning 'phoenix-wound' because of the almost yearly lava burps the volcano makes. This volcano is, in the majority's beliefs, the only place in all the world where Djia can influence the surface of the world above. Luckily, the hot lava, the blood of the demigod Phino, keeps Djia from rising out of the hole in his shell. As a result, the symbol of the continent and its people is a great phoenix, committing suicide every year or so in a bright flash and a lava burp. Over the ages, Phinozecko has violently erupted twice - both mark the end and beginnings of different ages* in their calendar. (* read further for more information) Holy depiction of Phino, sacrificing himself once of many, countless times Beginning to Settle The first people to set foot on Djiazecko were some of the first Mali'ker, joined by some of a pale-skinned, blue-eyed race of men - brothers and sisters to the ancestors of today's highlanders. When the boats arrived, man and elf went their separate ways. The Mali'ker, forsaking their ancestry and old, heinous religion, adopted a new lifestyle, with a new religion-society headed by the prophet Inerith'Khan, and traveled to the flatter regions of the continent. Some went further still, settling in the deserts. They named themselves 'the Qua-ohra', meaning 'plain-walkers' in the mixed language of the men and mali, which they had all adopted to further differentiate from Mali'ker culture. Meanwhile, the race of men, having accepted Inerith'Khan as their prophet but denying him as their ruler, stayed in the northern mountains, sculpting great castles and keeps into the Great Teeth of Djia. They named themselves 'the Bractava', meaning 'peak-dwellers' in their tongue. Inerith'Khan was infuriated upon rejection by his once-comrades, the Bractava, and proclaimed them to be servants of Djia. Despite this, the mountain men openly accepted their former comrades, hoping to make reconciliations. No attempt was ever successful. Inerith'Khan in his holy paint, artist's depiction End of the First Age Tensions were high between the two cultures. To the south, the tribal Mali'ker cursed the name of their northern comrades. Still, there were some of the Qua-ohra who knew that the Bractava were just men and women and children, no different from anyone down south save for their appearance and buildings. While the Qua-ohra dwelled in tent and teepee, lean-to and hut, the Bractava carved great stone keeps into the slopes of the mountains they called home. One such castle, home to the Lord Mafek in his day, artist's depiction Some of the Qua-ohra were not content to live in huts and tents on a prairie, so they banded together and traveled north. Inerith'Khan named these elves 'the Tratolo', meaning 'traitor-heretics' in their language. The Tratolo found their old friends after some weeks of travel, and they were welcomed eagerly and with open arms. These elves lived with the human men and women, integrating smoothly into their homes. It was a surprise to find that these people worshiped the same gods and demigods, in the same way as their brothers and sisters down south. Things in the cold north went well, while the south was driven to revolt under Inerith'Khan's cruelty to the families of those who had left. Some escaped before the slaughter, and fled north to find their kin and deliver the grave news. Upon hearing about their old prophet's turn into evil, the Bractava pulled a council together and decided what to do about it. The general consensus was war with the Qua-ohra, or all who were loyal to Inerith'Khan, and so it was that the feuding between the two peoples reached its all-time high. War parties were sent from each side of the continent, most meeting and battling it out at the foothills near the southern edge of the mountains. Some made it further in, but the tribes excelled in wartime. Inerith'Khan himself captured an entire war party from the north. He found a treasure in it, too: the woman who would be his wife, although she didn't want it. Inerith'Khan forced this woman from the north to be his concubine. Eventually, she was pregnant, and she gave him one son before dying in childbirth. This first of Inerith'Khan's children was a mixed-breed, half-blood abomination in their eyes, and was cast out. Around this time, another war party was advancing rapidly towards the warlord-prophet's hub, his beloved Aladiexa, named for his mother back home. They picked up this lost child and recognized him as a mixed breed, but they took him in and cared for him. One man was dispatched to return home with the child, the first of many younglings to be rescued from their abusive leader. This boy's name was Maive. An adult Maive, a clear mix of man and dark elf It was around this time of year that Phinozecko erupted violently, signalling the end of the first age just as everything changed. Men and women of either race copulated and produced mixed children, either ignorant of unafraid of the ancient curses that marred their mortal beauty. In a few generations, more elf blood had mixed into the northern population than ever before. Nearly half of the men and women in the mountains were of mixed lineage, either a quarter elf, half elf, three quarters elf, or somewhere in between. The Bractava were happy, and they were winning the war against Inerith'Khan. The prophet's own people stood against him or left for the west and east ends of the islands, settling into small towns along the bays. These 'ker mostly continued the tradition of tribal living, but with larger mud houses that stood year-round. They seeded great fields and produced a great number of crops, and they allied themselves with the Bractava to the north. Inerith'Khan, with his few followers remaining in the south, tried to denounce any who were disloyal as just more Tratolo, but the larger elven communities, still pure in their heritage, named him The Tratolo - Inerith'Khan was The Traitor-Heretic he had accused so many of being. With the might of two peoples against him, Inerith'Khan was overrun and captured. Elves and men moved into the south again, retaining the nomadic tribal lifestyle of tent and tepee, though they did not mix their blood there. The warlord-prophet was imprisoned in a cold cell in a prison on the highest peak, and there he rotted until illness or starvation claimed him. The Beginning of the Second Age Since that second eruption marking the second age, the people of Djiazecko prospered happily with one another. There were brief feuds, and short wars with islanders to the east and west, but the people and the land were, and are to this day, blessed with prosperity. At present time, it's been almost 200 years since the beginning of the second age. Wildlife on Djiazecko Far removed from the rest of the world(save for some islands here and there), Djiazecko developed some strange but familiar wildlife. The northern tooth-walker, infant and adult In the north, animals dwelling in the mountains were often exposed to coal deposits above ground. Animals born with black spots in their fur could more easily hide among the coal from the great hawks the patrolled the skies. Over time, northern animals became known for their strange black markings, usually accompanied by white ora dull gray. To the south, animals developed more patterns. This was no accident - in his time on the island, before his oppressive rule, Inerith'Khan purposefully bred many wild animals in pens to be striped, spotted, and all kinds of beautiful. It was his only real contribution, save for the knowledge of the gods and demigods the people worship. A desert jackal, raised in captivity The oceans around Djiazecko were home to some strange creatures, as well. Sharks, similar to those seen around other continents, swarmed the island in a great number, drawn by a migration of salmon, who were in turn drawn by the curious minerals that made up the ocean floor around the island. A hagtooth shark, in the process of being butchered and prepared for food. (OOC) Inspiration, Picture Credit, Everything Else Thank you for reading this! I have to say that I was super excited when I saw the post detailing other parts of the world, and I so supremely wanted to tack my own creation up there with those great pieces of lore. So, here it is! The language of the people on the island is heavily inspired by Polish, but only in pronunciations and vaguely in word structure. The culture of the people is heavily inspired by that of the aboriginal folk of Australia. The island-continent itself is loosely based on Australia, too. The painting of the island was made by Martyisnothere. The phoenix was made by Elsie Randall. The pictures used as a reference for Inerith'Khan, Maive, and the mountain castle were posted anonymously. The picture of the mountain goat was made by blackpassion777. The picture of the jackal was posted anonymously. And the shark is a screenshot from Dishonored. Thanks again, and I hope you enjoyed the read! PS: did you catch the jojo reference? ;)
