La Flor de Hyspia Issued on 13th of Maria’s Peace, 132 D.R. The flowers in the arid lands of Hyspia are as varied and beautiful as the people within, due in no small part to the adverse growing conditions. While Hyspia has a dry climate and loose sands in place of fertile soil, it is also located on the coast of a bountiful river; creating a uniquely harsh climate for flowers to seed and make roots. However, once they’ve grown accustomed to these desert lands, they thrive and grow to great heights. Much like the people, who have endured much hardship and grief, these unique challenges shape the flora of Hyspia, creating beautifully unique specimens able to be found in every garden. A previous post has been made on the Flowers of Hyspia- please support it! Flowers of Hyspia Agave There are many cactus and succulent plants in the desert, as nature has developed a number of ways to survive the harsh heat. One that stands out is the Agave, a rosette with large, succulent leaves that requires very little water. Its roots have developed to catch rainwater, condensation, and morning dew to survive. But the most interesting thing about Agave is that it can be used to produce an alternative to sugar, as well as create alcoholic beverages. Desert Primrose Desert Primrose is characterized by its large yellow or white flowers, and its wide-spreading hairy, pale silvery green leaves. These flowers will bloom in spring after heavy winter rains, coloring the desert sands like vibrant tissue paper. After the plant dies, its stems and leaves will curl up like a cage, though it’s quite the hardy plant. Able to survive in any kind of soil and is extremely drought-resistant, which also happens to make it a bit of a nuisance. Don’t plant too much, or it’ll overtake your garden! Apache Plume The Apache Plume is a showy flowering plant that starts as small, roselike white flowers with yellow insides. However, after this initial flower dies off, it re-blooms as a lavender-like flower with long, feathery pink petals with white fuzz. A tall, shrub-like plant, it grows in large clusters and is invaluable for erosion control, especially in the looser sands of the desert. Its bark is known to be white or light gray and often peels, while its leaves are brighter green and a bit hairy, curling under at the edges. It can grow as tall as an elf and flowers in the spring. Iblees’ Claw Iblees’ Claw is an interesting one, it blooms in the summer with trumpet-like pink or pale lavender, exotic-looking flowers. Its bright green leaves are surprisingly soft and covered with fuzz, and when its seed pods are young, they can be picked and eaten like fruit! In fact, some believe these seed pods have anti-inflammatory properties and could be used in medicine. The mature seed pods are where the flower gets its name- as it has a long, curved “claw” that gets caught in fur or on the clothes of a passerby, thus spreading the seed. Desert Mariposa Lily This perennial is a beautiful bright orange, red, or yellow flowering plant that produces several slender-stemmed flowers in a small cluster. Typically on the shorter side, only reaching a bit over a foot tall on average, this flower starts off with a waxy leaf base that withers after the flowers bloom. Its bold colors stand out from the sands, creating a lovely flower enjoyable by all. This beauty is quite rare and is typically found in rockier settings: such as the desert mountains. Anacacho Orchid Tree This rare tree is quite a sight to behold. Only found in the higher elevations of the desert mountains, in the spring its delicate leaves, resembling butterfly wings, will split and produce orchid-like flowers of white or pink. It prefers well-drained soil but is winter-hardy and doesn’t require much water. A smaller tree, only growing up to 12 feet in most cases, it’s quite beautiful once you’ve coaxed it into growing well. Prickly Pear The prickly pear cactus is a humble plant, but a wondrous one. While you’ve no doubt come across this cactus traversing the dunes, you’ve likely not known about how extraordinary it truly is. This cactus produces beautiful, vibrant pink or yellow flowers. When these flowers wilt, they produce fruit in their place- which is where the cactus gets its name from. These fruits can be eaten raw, or juiced to avoid eating the hard, unpleasant seeds. Feel free to pick a few next time you’re in town, just make sure to singe the little hairs in the fruits or handle them with tongs, as the little spiny hairs hurt to touch. Hyspian Moss Hyspian Moss can often be found clinging to orange trees in the orchard or any other type of tall structure that will get it closer to sunlight. While not technically a moss, instead falling into the bromeliad family, it appears as a silvery green moss and sports bright pink flowers on it. It’s also been referred to as “Abuelo’s beard” due to looking like a scraggly, long beard in shape. And if you’re worried about the moss harming the trees– fret not. It merely clings to them for structural support; it will not harm them in any way. Firecracker Vine Personally cultivated by Princess Valencia, these beautiful vines can be found growing along the walls of La Dorada. They love to climb high in the summer to reach as much sunlight as possible and sprout beautiful red, yellow, and white flowers from which they get their name. It’s also known for blooming from early spring well into late summer, as it quite enjoys the Hyspian heat. If you visit Hyspia, you’re sure to see its vibrant colors. These flowers are as diverse and beautiful as the land and climate that shaped them, much like the people of the desert. Whether you’ve history deep-rooted in the desert, or find yourself moving there for a better future, you’ve no doubt found something that connects you to it. Where others see a wasteland of sand, we see the golden shine of sun glinting off the dunes, and this is reflected in the unique flora such a land produces; and the strong, wonderful people it raises. I hope you’ve learned something, and can come to appreciate even the most common of flowers next time you take a stroll. HER ROYAL HIGHNESS, Valencia Belen, Princess-Royal of Hyspia, Duchess of La Dorada, and Countess of Rosario SENORA, Kerina Mondblume, The Flower Princess of Hyspia

An old portrait of Renilde Helena and a small Helene-Olympe, frolicking through the gardens of Courteis Hale, circa Atstana de Regne Petrère 114 9th of Harren’s Folley, Atstana de Regne Petrère 126 Freyde from Courteis Hale in the Province of Petra! I, Helene-Olympe of the Petra, come with advice and insight for individuals who intend to appear at my coming-of-age get-together later this year. For those of us that wish to keep our conversations ever more private at large social gatherings, I come to you with a quick and simple guide to the Flyeur Tongua (Floral Language). The first thing one must realize is that not only are the flowers themselves a message, but also the manner in which the flowers are displayed and presented to the possible suitor, friend, or foe. - If you present the flowers with your right hand, it is an affirmative ‘yes’ to whatever question might be looming between the pair, but a left-handed handoff is a definite ‘no’. - If flowers are presented upside down, they are to be believed to mean the very opposite of the flower’s original message. Ribbons are also important in meaning!: - A ribbon with a bow tied onto the left means that the message portrayed is symbolic of the giver. - A ribbon with a bow tied onto the right means that the sentiment portrayed is symbolic of the receiver. And as if it weren’t obvious, a wilted flower or bouquet is a rather brash statement! It is to symbolize hatred towards the receiver. Now, a quick guide to some of the most popular flowers and their meaning to prepare for your next outing in the rip-roaring wilderness we call society! Ie Ald Reinya's Neras Hortu (The Old Queen’s Little Garden) Since the construction of Courteis Hale, Grandmama and I have spent a good portion of our mornings and evenings nurturing this garden, from bud to blossom, much like the terms that my Grandmama uses to describe her upbringing of myself. On the evening of my debut jamboree, we have chosen to share the beauty of our garden with you, our guests, where you may pick the exotic flowers of ie Ald Reinya’s Nera Hortu, and gift them to another – or keep them for yourself! There is no judgment with the temptation of a garden so vast. Baby’s Breath: Everlasting Love Belladonna: Silence Bluebell: Humility Cactus: Ardent Love Carnation: Fascination -Red Carnation: Deep Love, My Heart Aches -White Carnation: Innocence, Pure and Sweet Love -Pink Carnation: I Will Never Forget You -Yellow Carnation: Disdain, Rejection -Green Carnation: (Male) Same-Sex Attraction Chrysanthemum -Red Chrysanthemum: I love you -Yellow Chrysanthemum: Slighted Love -White Chrysanthemum: Truth Daffodil: Regard Dahlia: Elegance and Dignity Daisy: Innocence Forget-Me-Not: Please Don’t Forget Me Gardenia: Secret Love Hibiscus: Delicate Beauty Hyacinth: Constancy Lavender: Distrust Rose: Love Red Rose: I Love You Pink Rose: Happiness Yellow Rose: Jealousy White Rose: Innocence Sunflower: Dwarf: Adoration Tall: Haughtiness Tulip: Declaration of Love My grandmother and I are looking forward to sharing this part of our family’s heritage and enthrallment regarding nature with our fellow Heartlanders, and we most earnestly hope to see you at my coming-of-age celebration. Most sincerely, Lady Helene-Olympe Noelle of the Petra, Courtesan of the Paradisian Court Her Majesty, Queen-Emeritus Renilde Helena of the Petra, Courtesan of the Paradisian Court

A Wilting Flower In a desolate forest, two malevolent witches concocted a sinister plan to capture the next unsuspecting traveler as a display of their capabilities. Under the moonless sky, the Harian heir reanimated a pile of bones with her dark magic, the Southeron rolled her eyes - for her sister was reveling in her near useless predicament. Down the winding road strolled a jovial Elven figure, adorned in a cascade of pastel pink flowers and intricate nature motifs. The wicked witches exchanged knowing glances, sinister smirks playing on their faces. Their skeletal thrall abruptly halted the Druid in his tracks, prompting a startled gasp. As the Druid turned to assess the unexpected interruption, his gaze fell upon the Southeron—a cunning enchantress who timed her actions with meticulous precision. With an artful flick of her wrist, she hurled a crystalline sphere in his direction, its trajectory dancing through the air with an eerie grace. “Darkul'veegati.” A thunderous crash reverberated as shards of glass shattered, releasing an ominous cloud of thick smoke that swiftly enveloped the Druid. Sinister laughter echoed through the air, amplifying the disorienting chaos. Desperately, he swatted at the air, attempting to disperse the suffocating haze. In the midst of the obscured scene, an unexpected projectile hurtled through the air—a massive rock cutting a sinister arc before colliding with the back of the Druid's skull. The ominous laughter persisted as the two malevolent women closed in, the smoke gradually dissipating to unveil his unconscious form sprawled in the dusty aftermath. The skeletal minion grasped his ankles and they were off, leaving behind a single pink flower . Amidst the concealed confines of their secluded hut in a putrid bog, the two witches erupted in gleeful howls. The play of candle flames cast flickering shadows that danced across the walls, amplifying the sinister ambiance. Regaining consciousness, the Druid adorned in flowers found himself entwined by ominous chains, fastening him to a vertical wooden board. The blackened shackles restricted his limbs, rendering him captive to the witches' malevolent design. With a disturbing satisfaction, the two women revealed in their egregious accomplishment, their elation evident in the wicked pride that glinted in their eyes. “Patuk… You’re awake!” The protective veil of the Aspects failed to shield him from the witches' unrelenting cruelty. With malevolence in their hearts, they cast twisted spells, extracting pleas for mercy that echoed from the depths of the druid's being. Each tormented incantation chipped away at his strength, yet his resolve remained unbroken. Frustration etched across the Southeron's face, she abruptly ceased her incantations and shifted her gaze to a potted herb resting on the windowsill. A devilish smirk played upon her lips as she carefully placed it on the table near her sister. The druid's eyes widened in anxious anticipation, terrified by the night unfolding before him. The desert-dwelling sister extended her hand towards the plant, its vibrant green now caught between her digits. A dense black smog began to seep from her palm, gradually enveloping the innocent flora. The captive thrashed and jerked, his senses assaulted by the plant's anguished cries, each resonating as if the inflicted pain were his own. Amidst the witches' delighted cackles, a subtle force stirred within the prisoner. Tapping into the desperation of the moment, he violently squirmed in a desperate attempt to break free. Feebly resisting the witches' malevolence, his anguished cries echoed through the air, sending whispers of rebellion that rustled through the leaves, an ode to nature's silent resistance.

VE BLAUWMS I HANSETI-RUSKA, VOLUME TWO Va Birodeo Herzenav ag Edlervik, This document is a continuation of VE BLAUWMS I HANSETI-RUSKA, VOLUME ONE. Please read the first volume before the following. FLOWERS Ve Daffodil This flower is most commonly found in shades of white, yellow, or a mixture of the two. However, they can be spotted in red, pink or orange. Signifying rebirth, new beginnings, beauty, admiration, truth, and honesty, these flowers are perfect for gifting. One should be wary of pairing them with other flowers that may have other meanings (see first volume), for then the humble daffodil becomes a token of death and vanity. Ve Crocus Symbolizing rebirth, romantic devotion and joy, the crocus comes in a variety of different colors. Often found in shades of lavender, pale pink or white, these flowers only bloom when spring is near. These flowers make perfect gifts, not having any of the pesky double meanings that can easily trick the ignorant and ill prepared. Ve Cyclamen Blooming in white, pink, lavender and red, the cyclamen symbolizes devotion, empathy, and sincerity of the heart. Perfect for a loved one, the cyclamen is one of the easier flowers to grow. It is planted as bulbs, giving them the perfect heartiness to survive in the climate of Hanseti-Ruska. Ve Kaffir Lily Often growing in red, white, orange and yellow, kaffir lilies are signs of purity and commitment. These flowers are perfect to use in cathedrals, basilicas and churches. Using them in religious ceremonies, such as weddings and baptisms, is said to impart good luck on the attendees. Ve Phlox Symbolizing unity of souls, love, sweet dreams and proposal, phlox is the perfect flower to give to your potential spouse. This flower comes in white, purple, blue, red and pink, making it a popular flower to use in weddings. Ve Andromeda Blooming in pink, white and deep red, the andromeda is a harbinger of spring, only blooming when the weather just starts to turn. As such, this flower carries meanings of rebirth and new beginnings, perfect for a gift to someone one wishes to make amends with. Ve Iris This species of iris only blooms in periwinkle, a mixture between blue and purple. Traditionally symbolizing valor, wisdom and faith, this flower is perfect as a gift for any soldier either going to or returning from war. This marks the end of VE BLAUWMS I HANSETI-RUSKA, thank you for reading. SIGNED, Her Royal Highness, Prinzenas Klara Elizaveta, Duchess of Baranya

VE BLAUWMS I HANSETI-RUSKA, VOLUME ONE Va Birodeo Herzenav ag Edlervik, The following document contains the different types of flowers within Hanseti-Ruska that hold importance to the culture of the kingdom. To be used at the people’s discretion, these blooms can be used for bouquets or Hauchmetvas Wreaths that one might wish to bestow a special meaning to. FLOWERS Ve Camellia Traditionally found in hues of white, red or pink, the camellia is one of the flowers that can bloom in Hanseti-Ruska’s harsh climate. Notoriously hard to grow, the camellia can only be found in select regions of the kingdom unless they are grown within greenhouses. Whilst white camellias symbolize adoration for someone well-liked, pink and red camellias display a longing for someone who is missed. Ve Snowdrop The snowdrop is commonly meant to symbolize purity, innocence, sympathy, rebirth and hope, this purely white flower is perfect as a gift for a young woman. The people of Hanseti-Ruska should be aware, be they lay person or nobility, that some snowdrops tend to be larger with a slight green hue. It should be noted that if the slightly green snowdrops are gifted to someone, the intent behind the gift is to subtly call into question all the qualities a snowdrop usually embodies, implying that the receiver has none of those qualities, or even the opposite of them. Ve Lenten Rose The lenten rose, like the snowdrop, is another flower that carries hidden meanings. Blooming in red, purple, yellow, green, blue, lavender and pink, they are often said to symbolize hope. That said, one should never gift a green lenten rose to anyone they hold interest in. The green color of the flower blends into the delicate stems, indicating the gifter has not thought of the receiver in any capacity other than in passing. Ve Holly Bush Holly is often used to portray fertility and long life. Often, those who cannot afford proper medical care bathe their infants in water that has recently been boiled with holly and allowed to cool. It is whispered to protect the children from harm, as a good luck charm. Ve Jasmine The fragrant white flowers of jasmine are often used to make perfumes, though the meaning of the blooms are wonderful all on their own. Often given with the meaning of love attached to them, jasmine also symbolizes beauty, good luck, appreciation and purity. However, one must beware when gifting these flowers. If paired with a snowdrop, especially a green snowdrop, the combination signifies promiscuity on the part of the receiver. It can be counted as a great insult. Ve Witch Hazel It is whispered, perhaps heretically so, that witch hazel has the uncanny power to divine the future or to reveal the truth. Perhaps rightly so, witch hazel holds a horrible reputation. Although useful in some medical instances, it should never be gifted to those you hold in high esteem. It can be used to indicate the gifter believes the receiver is lying, either in general or more specifically. It is seen as uncouth to gift the plant to even one’s enemies. Ve Aconite This stark purple bloom often signifies misanthropy, caution, and death. The plant is incredibly poisonous, causing pain in the stomach, vomiting and nausea if ingested. One should be especially careful when handling it, and it is the height of disgrace to gift aconite to a living person. On the other hand, this flower is one of the best to use in funeral processions. Volume Two of VE BLAUWMS I HANSETI-RUSKA is soon to follow. SIGNED, Her Royal Highness, Prinzenas Klara Elizaveta, Duchess of Baranya

A old man with a blue tunic and black vest stands in front of a stall, reading over some plans. Nothing special, nothing out of the ordinary. But behind his green and white stall, towers several gigantic flowers, some the size of small houses. The elderly man lowers his papers, giving you a smile, his right eye heavily scarred. "Welcome to the Spring Carnival, for the Festival of Winter has just passed, and we celebrate the Aspects return to Spring, when the snow thaws and our flowers blossom into roses and tulips, allium and daisies." "We just arrived a scant elven week ago, and my party is busy setting up the stalls and fairs! We're looking to open on the 5th next elven month, but we so do need shopkeepers. A festival wouldn't be a festival, without some fairy floss and pie, wouldn't it?" He chuckles, before nailing a piece of parchment on the side of his stand. As you leave the man to his own devices, you take one last look at the towering wooden contraption. It looks oddly familiar, like that ride from the Festival of the Sun in Abresi, when Horen was still Emperor. Shaking that feeling of dejavu, you continue on your merry way.
