  1. “The Ways to Learn Magic and Possible Changes to Seeking Masters.” By: Eldorain (sethsj) The Summarized Lore Behind Hoktmat Politics and Magic from my Point-of view: The sorcerous hierarchy in Hohkmat provides an intricate roadmap for individuals navigating the magical society. The journey begins with the determination of one's sorcerous path, emphasizing the significance of a powerful retinue in achieving a position of influence. The retinue, composed of attendants such as Sanfi, Familiars & Exotics, and Aspirants, plays a crucial role in showcasing one's power and authority. Attendants serve diverse functions, from mercenaries to exotic creatures, contributing to a mage's overall influence. The progression through sorcerer ranks, including Novice, Journeyman, and Adept, reflects an individual's proficiency in magical arts. Apprenticeship is highlighted as a pivotal step, where aspirants align themselves with a mage to eventually become heirs to a magical lineage. The system of magical true lineage underscores the importance of the apprentice-Master bond, akin to a blood relation in other societies. The text also introduces the Masters of the Arcane, including Masters and Sages, overseen by the Council of Masters, which adds a layer of recognition for those who have reached the pinnacle of magical mastery. The forum delves into special orders, introducing Viziers and Lord/Lady Magisters as mages with exceptional magical prowess and political influence. The highest authority, the Grand Magister, leads Hohkmat and is judged not only by individual magical power but also by their ability to unify magi, promote talent, and handle magical threats to society. The text concludes by emphasizing the importance of retinues, political acumen, and magical proficiency for those aspiring to challenge existing leaders or claim significant positions within the magical hierarchy. Overall, the guide provides a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies of magical progression and political dynamics in Hohkmat. The Summary of the Great Paradox, Political Power, and Aristocracy. The City-States of Hohkmat emerge as a fascinating realm with a rich magical tapestry and a distinct societal structure. Guided by the Three Mysteries—The Great Paradox, The Eternal Pursuit, and The Sorcerer's Path—Hohkmat's sorcerers navigate a complex world where magic, power, and the pursuit of knowledge intertwine. The Great Paradox encapsulates the dual nature of sorcery, emphasizing the balance between chaos and control, while The Eternal Pursuit delves into the acquisition and acknowledgment of power, shaping a society where the meek may rise and the content may fall. The Sorcerous Path, the mystery of the future, empowers individuals to ascend from slaves to kings through magical mastery. In the governance of the City-States, a Feudal Mageocratic Oligarchy takes shape. Lord-Magisters, the most powerful sorcerers, lead noble Mage-Lords in fealty to the Grand Magister, who wields absolute authority over the realm. The Ziggurats, majestic structures housing the central government, symbolize the core of power. The Grand Magister, titled Sorcerer-King, holds sway over the Chamber of Stars, a bureaucratic force executing the nation's will. The dynamic Lord-Magisters, with their power bases and magical prowess, constitute the Chamber of Lord-Magisters. In this aristocracy, apprenticeship and magical lineage play a pivotal role, distinguishing noble houses and shaping succession. The autonomy granted to Lord-Magisters is balanced by their allegiance to the Grand Magister, whose charisma and coordination skills are crucial for effective governance. The intricate dance between power, politics, and magical mastery defines the unique and captivating world of the City-States of Hohkmat. The New Added Idea to Learn Magic: The City-States of Hohkmat unfold as a captivating realm where sorcery, societal hierarchies, and magical mysteries shape the landscape. The Three Mysteries—The Great Paradox, The Eternal Pursuit, and The Sorcerer's Path—guide sorcerers in navigating the delicate balance of chaos and control, pursuit of power, and the empowering journey from apprentice to mastery. A Feudal Mageocratic Oligarchy, led by the Grand Magister and the Chamber of Stars, governs the City-States, with Lord-Magisters holding significant autonomy. For aspiring mages, the path to magical mastery is intricate and challenging. Masters, the seasoned sorcerers, are selective in accepting apprentices, and those seeking to learn magic often find themselves struggling to secure a mentor. The tradition of apprenticeship, viewed as a sacred bond akin to blood relations, creates a barrier for newcomers. Self-taught individuals can only progress to a certain rank without formal acceptance into a magical house. To prove their worth, aspiring mages must independently master magical arts and showcase their skills during yearly exams, a crucial event where they demonstrate their learning to potential Masters. The struggle for acceptance into a magical house is marked by the need for self-motivation and rigorous training. Those who manage to reach a certain proficiency independently face the challenge of convincing a Master of their capabilities. The yearly exams become a make-or-break moment, where aspirants lay bare their magical prowess and understanding of the Three Mysteries. Only by impressing a Master can they hope to be accepted into a noble house, joining the ranks of Lord-Magisters in the City-States of Hohkmat. This rigorous system ensures that only the most dedicated and skilled individuals ascend the ranks of magical society, contributing to the dynamic and competitive nature of Hohkmat's magical hierarchy. “I serviet, I erit officii.” (OOC) In Hohkmat, if you're itching to be a magic whiz, you grab these cool elemental magic books from the library or cough up some coin at the city "tax" place, where a city shop could be setup. 2. People of Aevos, farmers and philosophers alike, I come before you as a humble servant, with the void as my tool. I write this message today in hopes that it finds you well, in order to ask for your patience. I am a very busy man and I have been for many centuries now, but it is my dedication and commitment to my craft and people that continue to beckon me forth to havens of knowledge such as Hohkmat, despite my lack of presence in many cases. It is my intention to nurture a small sect of our reality within my own district, to that of a beacon of light for all who would wish their reality malleable. . . To all that would wish to sculpt the realm in their image. A place where creativity seeps from the very walls of the establishment, the inspiration so real it bursts forth into reality in the form of magical flora and fauna. This is the reality I wish to procure within my district, but it is not possible without your assistance. No matter the strength of any singular mage, it is unity that creates true greatness, standing side by side with someone like minded and trusting, knowing if the worst were to occur, they would be by your side standing with you against the dark. This is the strength I require from you all, this is the environment I wish to nurture. . . But I can only do it with your help. Assist me in ushering in this age of greatness with the void as our tool and your names shall be written in the history books, immortalized forever as those who walked the path uncharted, leading the way for future generations to flourish, enriched by our accomplishments. Allow me time and I shall give you greatness Lord Magister of Hohkmat and Eternal Servant to the Realm
  3. Hi! Strange request, I know. BUT I am looking for a necromancer/dark arts caster to organize a plot/roleplay to curse my character so I can continue to write/roleplay him the way I originally intended. After talking to one of the story and lore team, I now know that the initial written plan won't work. So the next best thing, I need a necromancer to curse me. I'm happy to go over character details and plot here in PMs, whatever you need. Thanks! Edit: Thanks for the offers of help and friendly chatter! My original vision isn't entirely feasible within the lore of LOTC, which is totally fine. So I'm gonna talk to some peeps and see what we can do and see where it goes.

In space, the Colonial Navy has been sent into a full rout, forced to abandon the void above the former Colonial capital of Nahki. As the banners of Heaven itself march upon the system, much of the remaining Colonial government flees north into more secure space - leaving the planet’s garrison to hold the world alone. News from the former Colonies suggests that the Atuans have made great progress, having accepted the surrender of several of the largest colonial formations on the planet. The last of Nahki’s resistance is centered around the expansive mega-city of Mo’an-tal, where the remaining Colonial armies have dug in heavily. BLESSED IS THE LINE OF THE EMPEROR RUR-VAI ===----<>----=== THE COMING OF AN HEIR “Do not delay, Admiral, for we have little time to lose.” [The Starcast Throne, in the Imperial Observatory.] From the furthest reaches of civilized space comes a message which slowly but surely filters through to every remaining psykic in the galaxy, “An heir proclaims himself.” The man in question is the Lord Taera, a matriarchal second cousin of the late Emperor Rän-ji. Stationed in the Outer Rim during the Civil War, Taera’s fleets were unable to reach Loyalist lines before Erasmis’ invasion had already penetrated to the core. Since then, they have been wedged between their two foes, only barely scrounging by. With this announcement is a call to aid directed to the Loyalist south, and a plea to the Republic requesting safe passage south - how the Republic will respond to such a request remains to be seen. ===----<>----=== THE PIRATE KING “Let them despair!” [The destruction of the ERTCV Sifter against Aokigahara’s fleet] Chaos continues to engulf the galaxy, and the illustrious Pirate King runs forever rampant among the Eastern Galaxy’s trade routes. 10,421 proves to be an eventful year for Aokigahara’s fleet, though, as the Horseman, Aokigahara’s flagship aswell as its supporting vessels fall upon an ERTC Treasure Fleet returning from the Far Rim. Unknowingly having walked into a pirate ambush, the ERTC escorts were quickly picked apart and destroyed, with the primary escort, ERTCV Sifter, being destroyed in the opening stages of the battle. The entire contents of the ERTC convoy has apparently since been destroyed or otherwise lost to the pirates. Aokigahara’s marauding continues to burn east through Loyalist space. ===----<>----=== GATHERING CLOUDS “500 credits per shipment? What do the Barons need 400 credits for! 300 credits is unbelievable! The Westerners don’t have the gall to ask for 200 credits for fuel..” [The Republic Senate] As another set of terms comes to an end, the clouds of the Republican Senate begin to gather as a host of interests prepare to compete for the trio of newly vacant positions: Tanu Kavan, Kavan Te, and Kavan He-ai and upset the long established rule of the hugely popular Grand Admiral Pepe. While the various factions of the Senate return to their constant scheming, trouble brews on the Republic’s horizon.. The Oil Barons continue to hold the Republic at their mercy through their near total domination of the Outer Rim’s fuel reserves, many within the Senate cry for a response. Indeed, the idea would be attractive to many more if the Republic’s finances were not almost completely sustained by ERTC and Universal loans, huge partners of the Oil Barons. Further still, reports filter in from the border of Admiral Akamu’s efforts to refurbish and salvage Civil War naval vessels en masse, a development which has many of the provincial governors on edge. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ "Ran-ji lies dead. Man is scattered. The Empire burns. Those who remain shall burn with it.."
  5. TELUMKINESIS AND ARMIGERS - THE SOUL OF THE SWORD Lore Overview For long the dance between a swordsman and his blade has been described as a very personal act. The blade, acting as an extension of one's body like a limb has been taught fore-long, however there is more truth to this sentiment then the Descendants had thought. A caster who’s blade flies through the air, capable of swordplay alongside the one who wields them is called an Armiger, “one who bears arms”, while the magic that they wield is called Blade Manipulation or Telumkinesis. OOC; Telumkinesis must be taught to someone by a player with a valid TA. It takes up 2 spell slots to learn. Image courtesy of Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com.au/pin/340092209343393863/ The Armiger and their Vessel; How it works Those who have a true understanding of an object control the power of a Vessel. Unlike conventional weapons or objects these arms and things move through the world at the Armiger’s whim. The way Vessels work is that when imbued with a large amount of mana by an Armiger, the object gains its own mana pool. As every user of mana has a unique Aura, this mana pool shares this unique signature and can only be connected by its creator. The Vessel will float around essentially “following” its Armiger if not physically holstered, until a consistent flow of mana is sent into the Vessels mana pool allowing the Armiger to control it at will. To learn this is the study of Telumkinesis. There are two types of Vessels, Combative Vessels and Mundane Vessels. Combative Vessels are used in combat, taking the form of varying types of weaponry. Mundane Vessels however are everyday-objects, and can range from a miners lamp and pickaxe to a seamstress’ sewing needle and measuring tape. Due to the straining nature of both keeping consistent connection to a Vessel and fighting, it’s impossible to connect to multiple combat Vessels whilst one can connect to up to two Mundane Vessels. A Vessel can take on any appearance, however will always (Unless hidden with a cloaking spell) show the effect of the Armiger’s Aura. For information about Mana Aura’s, see https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/199959-✓-the-aura-of-mana/ The Origin of Telumkinesis The birth of Telumkinesis begun with two conscripted brothers, a Housemage and a knight. The Housemage wasn’t a fighter, however had spent so many days at war that he became more familiar with a blade than the rhythmic sound of a sweeping broom. The Housemage lost his brother, overwhelmed with the regret of being unable to fulfill a promise made during the gentle respite of camp between battles. the soldier held his comrade's blade close weeping at the thought of what calm, homey pleasantries they would never experience again. Imaging his confidant, grin on their face as they first master how to manipulate a mop into doing a task the soldier unintentionally imbued the fallen brothers blade with a mana pool creating the first Combative Vessel. It’s believed by those who’d studied the history of the Telumkenetic art that the soldiers familiarity of Housemagery greatly aided the discovery of this magic, as it similarly contains the ability to move objects through mana on a lesser level. Those familiar with the history will sometimes refer to Combative Vessels as Fallen Brothers, although this is lesser known terminology, only aware by those who’d study the arts history thoroughly. Image courtesy of Pinterest https://www.pinterest.com.au/pin/187462403228691100/ Mana Burnout A consistent flow between Vessel and Armiger makes Telumkinesis highly mana intensive, and will cause intense strain during use for the Armiger. To keep a reasonable amount of energy during Vessel usage, Telumkinesis causes extreme narcolepsy in everyday life. This comes with various obstacles; Armigers will experience the following symptoms when outside of combat as a result of their lethargic nature once they reach Tier 2. Image courtesy of Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com.au/pin/437975132493690858/ Purpose During our time on LoTC many of us have dreamed of roleplaying with flying magic swords alongside one another. It’s been a conversation I’ve had many times with many people, and the demands for such a magic undeniably exist. However it’s well known to be a very difficult thing to balance and implement fairly. Therefore, many of us have been working together to try our hand once more at putting together a fair lore that can offer something new to one's roleplay experience. We hope that with the broader scope of what can become a “Vessel” will allow more flying doctor-strange cloaks and charmed musicians to join the fray, and with tighter and clearer redlines we bring a balanced enhancement and flavor to CRP martial combat. Skill Tiers [!] Telumkinesis takes up 2 Spell slots. The following is the mechanics of Telumkinesis. Tier 1 [ Tier 1 lasts for 2 years IRP, or 2 IRL weeks. ] A connecting Armiger cannot yet craft, fight, or wield any Vessels of any kind. During this stage, they will spend their time connecting with their inner mana. Teaching Tip 1st - 2nd year of study. The student must be taught how to connect an object to their personal mana pool. This must be done in a calm environment, where the student can concentrate without fear of distraction. 1 IRP lesson should take place during this time. Tier 2 [ Tier 2 lasts for 3 years IRP, or 3 IRL weeks ] The Armiger is now capable of learning how to imbue their first Vessel. They are capable of connecting 1 Combat Vessel, and 1 Mundane Vessel. Spells Teaching Tip 3rd - 5th year of study. The student can now confidently summon their Aura, and imbue a pulse of their mana into an object. Now, the student will begin learning how to sustain that connection through the object and their personal mana pool. They can do this by directing a constant flow of their mana into an object, and manipulating it in various ways. For example the student could flow mana into a small toy, causing it to dance back and forth. ~ 2 IRP lessons should take place during this time. Tier 3 [ Tier 3 lasts for 4 years IRP, or 4 IRL weeks ] The Armiger has begun to show confidence with the use of their Vessel, whether it be in combat or for mundane use. They are capable of connecting 1 Combat Vessel, and 2 Mundane Vessels. Spells Teaching Tip 5th - 8th year of study. Now that the student is comfortable with Vessel combat, they may consider now moving their focus from martial art to the mundane, and learn how to use two Mundane Vessels at one time. This is very tiring, and will cause extreme lethargicness after training. ~ 2 IRP lessons should take place during this time. Tier 4 [ Tier 4 lasts for 6 years IRP, or 6 IRL weeks. ] The Armiger has become impressively skilled in both Combat and Mundane Vessel usage. They are capable of connecting 1 Combat Vessel, and 3 Mundane Vessels. Spells Teaching Tip 8th - 13th year of study The Armiger now understands the inner workings of Blade Manipulation magic, and must simply practice honing their skills to gain proficiency. ~ 3 IRP lessons should take place during this time. Tier 5 The Armiger is a spectacle to behold, skilled in both Combat and Mundane Vessels. Redlines Redlines - Crafting Vessels Redlines - Combat Vessels Redlines - Mundane Vessels Changelog N/A Credit - My thanks goes out to the following Crines, RinIsSalty, Imstuckinhell, Hylofear, Xocolataphobia and Basicdoctor for their feedback, thoughts and having fun in general thinking up how to make a balanced, cool feeling combat magic with me in the initial version of the lore. The special thanks goes to Charbi who made the icon and Armiger title artwork, and to Unduibatily who gave a lot of insightful advice to myself and Americansimp on what mindset we should adopt in writing magic lore. And a final, grandiose thanks towards Americansimp and Qizu who had also written a very similar concept lore. The two of them created this rewrite alongside me with a lot of feedback from brainstorming from our past experience in attempting this lore, and the Loremag feedback we'd received. -
  6. (CA Race Grouping D – Magic Endgame) Origin/Background/Culture Dresdrasil, The Deity of The Depths; Meant to stay hidden forever beneath the waves. When parts and pieces were discovered, they tainted and corrupted the man that found them, twisting his mind and soul beyond recognition. Causing them to crave Dresdrasil’s remains; any scrap, piece, of influence or power left behind after death. With this power, the first Tidesages used brine; lifeforce and darkwater to wreak whatever havoc they would have wished. However, alongside the corruption of the natural order, and exposure to significant usage of brine; the Tidesages slowly began to further warp than what they had already become unrecognizable from. Their mortal forms, distorted further, experimentation began upon extended effects of significant exposure to brine. Amorphous amalgams of eyes, teeth and warped screaming as the first Tidesages were sacrificed to see Brine’s horrible effects upon the mortal form. After practice and perfection with many failures, a stable half-breed, born of the unholy abyss and the perfection of the four brothers; incomplete and impure. The Drowned of Tidesages are revered as dedicated, forever to Thallassos and the bidding of their fellow Tidesages. Finding themselves immunized to the faults of the mortal form in exposure of the abyss, Drowned have difficulty blending back in to their previous lives, for their sacrifice made to other Tidesages. Physical Description Drowned typically retain the features of their previous race, however taking on a few different modifications. Always, Drowned are on the shorter end of average height for their race- precisely maybe two or three inches above the minimum. Their strength is unimpaired, typically varying person to person; however not being able to become above the peak of their original race. A Drowned’s skin drains of natural colour, typically staying within shades of white to black, rarely a deep sea green or blue. The skin aswell moistens and becomes reminiscent of a soft and squishy membrane, which oozes water some when pressure is applied. The Drowned will have gills appear on their neck and/or ribs, either deep rake-like slits or something like fluttery external gills. Aswell a Drowned may have parts of their body, the limbs most specifically, take on chitin or scalid appearance which provide marginal natural armour and defense. A Drowned’s hair would become thick and wavy, however dirtied and almost moist as it would stick and cling to surfaces, and would be slimy to the touch. Their eyes would vary from absolute-black to a glowing yellow, or even a pale and milky white with no visible pupil or iris. Their teeth and nails would harden significantly, similar to iron in their durability and strength but taking on an almost fibrous appearance. Drowned are susceptible to damage as they were in their normal form, however their blood taking on an inky colour and a consistency similar to gelatin, which would coagulate rather easily. Aswell, prolonged periods of dry exposure would damage and crack all features of a Drowned, likely significantly painful and exhausting. Sudden magical flame or heat would bear no effect on a Drowned however, but mundane or natural flame and raised heat would render them uncomfortable; but not particularly weak. Mental Description Mindset A Drowned would have their mindset twist from mortal desires and they would often be sat almost awaiting a purpose. Drowned often make a purpose for themselves, or follow the goals and intuition of other Tidesages in order to gain true focus and understanding. A Drowned is often plagued with thoughts they cannot perceive or understand. Mental State Deep sounds of typically extremely low pitches constantly torment the mind of The Drowned, ranging between 20-60Hz constantly giving a vibrating sensation to the ears of a low sound that was everpresent. Sometimes it was louder and more violent, typically when a Drowned was in danger; this would provide significant mental wear for the first few weeks after their drowning as they accustom to the new sound. Often this may terrify even dedicated Tidesages as the unknown now directly calls to them, and the sounds of the abyss are foretold right to them; subjectively and objectively completely inable to understand such whatsoever. Alongside such, the initial experience of drowning in brine is incredibly exhausting and painful, and would take wear as the user near-experiences death and transformation at a rapid rate, likely giving them a feeling of incompleteness and emptiness as they narrowly avoid death. A Drowned would feel sympathetic to a point with another Drowned, and especially toward Philios; almost viewing them on a brotherly scale and level, which is reciprocated by them in minutely human ways. Below are examples of sounds that may be heard by a Drowned at a frequent. Abilities Gills (Passive) Description: Granted by necessity, transformation of the body during drowning allows for gills on the sides of the neck and the serratus anterior. These gills intake both water and air; a signature of a Drowned’s halfbred makeup. Mechanics: A Drowned has gills upon their neck, and optionally the sides of their chest which function to breathe air and water. Redlines - A Drowned’s previous lungs continue to function, however only in the case of air. - A Drowned wearing clothes is not suffocated as they can continue manual ventilation through their nose or mouth. - A Drowned’s gills can intake and process air Eyes of The Abyss (Passive) Description: Requiring vision within dark caves and murky depths, a Drowned is able to see in such conditions similar to their aquatic bretheren. Mechanics: A Drowned has bioluminescent eyes that can range from dim to fiercely bright, and is able to see perfectly clear in darkness, underwater or not. Aswell, a Drowned becomes immune to particulate coming before one’s eye. Redlines - If the darkness is magically induced, Eyes of The Abyss does not see through such. - Eyes of The Abyss does not replace eyes lost or damaged. Skin of The Lurker (Passive) Description: Required by a Philios or any creature of the Abyss to return to their home, they need immunity to the changes in pressurization. This makes a Drowned’s skin clammy and moist, their blood cold. Mechanics: A Drowned’s skin may become chitinous or scalid in some parts, and would render them immune to changes in barometric pressure or minorly cold temperature. Their blood would become cold, and their skin reflecting the temperature of the environment around them. Redlines - Magically induced coldness would still have effect on a Drowned. - Land Temperatures breaching below freezing (0C or 32F) or above extremely hot (38C or 100F) would take a rapidly exhaustive effect upon a Drowned, requiring them to artificially heat or cool themselves. Weapons of The Lady (Active, Noncombat and Combat) Description: Requiring natural defense, on the whim of a Drowned they may calcify and extend their fibrous nails, teeth, and skin to fight. Similar to a Philios, they would have impaired function because of such. Mechanics: After one emote of transformation, A Drowned would have the nails of their extremities, teeth, and skin harden to enhance combat capability. Their teeth and nails would have the internal strength of iron, and would extend a maximum of six inches. Their skin would toughen, but by no means as strong as any armour. Redlines - A Drowned with Weapons of The Lady would be impaired as expected by their enhanced capability- unable to wield weaponry or speak properly. - Weapons of The Lady enhanced weaponry is considered ‘iron’ in durability and strength. - Weapons of The Lady enhanced skin is considered ‘tough skin’, not necessarily equating to the strength of any armour. Call of The Siren (Active) Description: As a way to lure prey, a Drowned would sing harmonically to capture an unsuspecting and curious victim which mirrors tales of old. Mechanics: A Drowned may sing and enchant those surrounding to entice them to come closer or to lure them in, in an incredibly harmonic and angelic voice which was pleasant for all to hear. Redlines - Call of The Siren overlaps Weapons of The Lady, allowing one to speak perfectly clear. - Call of The Siren does not magically ‘charm’ those nearby forcefully, merely encouraging. Lament of The Deep (Passive) Description: Bearing such striking and incredible similarity to a Philios anatomically, a Drowned would take on the burden of a previous Poiema, or a new one, and bear the conscious of a Philios within their mind. Mechanics: By connecting by touch to a Philios, one would be able to store their conscious within themselves; bearing it as a second mind and thought that spoke to them, and witnessed what they had. If the Philios they bore conscious to were to die, they may be able to transfer their consciousness back into a new Philios to keep previous connection and memory. Redlines - If The Drowned were to die, so too would the saved conscious of The Philios. - One would not be able to telepathically send information, and a Philios would be able to witness it’s own death through the eyes of The Drowned - The Drowned may not swap consciousness with a Philios. General Red lines/Restrictions - A Drowned is obviously incompatible with any other CA. - A Drowned would continue to stay a Drowned if they were to drop or be purged from Thallassos. - A Drowned is sterile and could not reproduce in any capacity. - A Drowned does not gain any benefit from Poiemas. - A Drowned may still utilize any magic which they could previously get as a Tidesage with a corrupted soul. - A Drowned cannot have their affliction purged, cured, or removed magically or medically. - A Drowned is considered by all purposes coldblooded, and considered a descendant with a corrupted soul. - A Philios would never by any circumstance bring harm or inconvenience to a drowned. - A Drowned may wear clothes and armour just as before. Purpose (OOC) Drowned are a cool and critical minor-endgame to Thallassos that make an interesting addition to the lore and the server, while not wildly different than someone normal to be unrecognizable- they are a representation of the corruption of the magic, and the minor boons granted by such which make an interesting way to take the lore. Unlike a more advanced form, a Drowned is almost an entirely aesthetic representation of a Thallassos experienced and using the magic; taking aspects of The Philios they command and other Abyssal life. 7. Thallassos, Corrupted of The Abyss Background/Origin The seas lapped at the shores of the cove, a bar of lightly coloured sand shone in the sun as the winds blew and the seas swayed. No seagulls sang and no fish fed upon the riches of the murky water just beyond the shore. Thick and vile purple ichor tinged the seas a murky deep colour as a mere tendril of Dresdrasil stained the sands in a blackened colour as life seemed sucked from the surrounding area- a harrowing sight to an otherwise untouched and peaceful land. Left to rot and decompose the surrounding sea bore a strong stench of salt and brine as the water brewed to a more brackish and muddy composition, the area was desecrated of natural life and being. The area continued to devolve and became more and more stagnant and vile with time, a perpetual storm becoming localized over the once simple beach. Heavy winds carried the stench and spread the taint that the tendril brought with it’s unholy landing, and the area further corrupted and defiled as the storm grew thicker, with perpetually smog-coloured clouds looming over the area like a curse. One day as the monsoon continued heavily and the winds blew strong, carrying foul air, travellers approached. Three, clad in coats and clothes of brown, with little more to them than walking sticks and small bags. “Cullen, is this it, what we have been looking for?” Asked a man of dim but fiery hair, almost frightened to the sight, a quivering voice behind. “It is.” He replied, firmly- a natural born leader with his stout confidence and bravery. “We will remove this aberration from our beautiful home.” He continued, approaching. “Through flame, salt and gold I cast you away from harming our village further.” He said lowly, a voice of hate as he approached. “Cullen, we don’t know what this thing is. We have to wait, what if it’s.. I don’t know, alive!” Called the man who was originally silent, cautious and careful of the god’s remnants that lay before him. “Vile creature.” Cullen said simply, spraying salt against the skin of the tendril- to no avail, or affect. “I cast you away, to the sea of whence you came.” he repeated, anger clouding his voice once more, his expression hard and irritated. He brought out a bag, pouring some of its contents as flakes of gold sprinkled away on the stormy winds as the rest fell to his hand. He threw it with little effect to the tendril, as the winds picked up and blew such back into him. “Gah, ******* thing! I said leave, beast!” He shouted desperately and filled with rage, withdrawing a dagger meant to gut sea life that would inhabit nearby. “Leave this place!” he shouted as he ran forth and went to drive his mere knife into the tendril- it tensing up rapidly, a spurt of vile purple ichor spraying toward his face, lingering as it hissed and burned him. Fear grew upon him like a weed, as he fruitlessly continued to drive his blade into the dead god’s remains. As he wore out and his companions watched on in horror, the tendril seized and gave sounds of bones-cracking and pressured water flowing quickly, as it coiled and grabbed him- Cullen completely enveloped and disappeared, within its grasp. The red-headed boy screamed in fervent horror, nearly tripping as the wind which had continued to gain favor nearly blew him over- both wordlessly panicked, sprinting toward whence they came. Days came and nights passed and the coiled tendril remained the same. Each of them was the same as the last, as the storm saw no end. On the sixth day, came the cautious man- seeming almost intrigued and curious, of the tendril he saw still coiled at a distance. With caution he approached, an almost curiosity to his unnaturally violet irises. Stepping cautiously over the stones that lined the beach and onto the darkened and coarse sands, an unwavering stare toward the tendril which consumed his friend, he had noticed this time it was different. The winds did not pick up nor did the monsoon which pelted at his cloak. “C-cullen. I.. I wanted to .. to say..” “Caller.” Replied a voice, impossibly loud and echoing off the surrounding area, a slightly feminine tone to it. He searched frantically for any source of the voice, but it was impossible to tell directionally- almost as if it spoke to him, in his mind. His lip trembled and his words stumbled, as he froze in fear. The tendril slowly uncoiled, revealing Cullen- drenched and lithe, coming to kneel in the sands- completely quiet, and still. The cautious man watched on in abhorrent horror, his body shaking in paralyzing fear and the biting cold that the wind brought. Cullen with struggle, brought himself to a stand, his cloak tangled and wrapped entirely around his head- drenched, and darkened. He said something, muffled and quiet, behind his mask. “Closer.” The mind of the cautious man sung to himself, in a voice that was almost his own. “Closer.” It repeated, unceasingly. With an agonizing terror that constantly followed every step, he inched closer to his seemingly living friend. “C..Cullen..?” He muttered, sputtered, and fumbled out as his eyes lacked focus, constantly scanning over what shouldn’t be there. “Friend. I have so much to tell you.” Magic Explanation Thallassos is a three slot deific-darkmagic hybrid, falling under either classification. Thallassos is deific in the sense not necessarily of a patron or connection to deific being, but rather using mortal remains of a fallen deity in connection and to power the magic. Thallassos is dark in the sense that it corrupts and wears on the user for trying to make intangible power theirs, though how the user uses the magic is up to them, and may not inherently be dark, evil, or “bad”. Thallassos is taught and learned by interaction with a teacher of the art already connected, and involves connection by melding one’s mortality with the remains of Dresdrasil. Overall, the magic is incompatible with any other deific magic, and requires a basic soul to use, and post-connection would render one’s soul Corrupted. Alongside that, the user would require a body producing blood to do such.(Excluding things such as Animati, Izkuuthi, Sorvians, Golems, Azdrazi, Etc.) Corruption Through time a Tidesage is corrupted and manipulated by the powers they wish to wield, no matter the intent. This may be amplified, or may seek detriment by actions taken in roleplay. Tier 0 At Tier 0 the initial infestation upon the body and mind takes toll, with an initial rejection from the body. Almost like a drug, senses may be amplified, and users may hallucinate auditorily and visually, and have delusions of grandeur as a sense of accomplishment and power overwhelms their system. At Tier 0, a user has no brine within them as transformation starts. Tier 1 At Tier 1 the body begins to normalize and the effects take a less prominent effect. The user becomes more stable and normal, almost as if recovering from their previous state. However, their thoughts may drift to darker and less pleasurable things, feeding to more carnal and simplistic desires of basic emotion. At Tier 1, a user has the potential to use three units of brine. Tier 2 At Tier 2 the body begins to take wear, weakening the user just some- as if a bit malnourished with lessened stamina, a tiredness overcoming their day-to-day life. Their darker thoughts would become more normalized, and controlled. At Tier 2, a user has the potential to use six units of brine. Tier 3 At Tier 3 the body continues to degrade, the strength of the user following the stamina- though still to not the degree of a voidal mage, just not holding standard as it did before. Bleeding would become more perfuse and clotting more difficult as their blood watered down. Their thoughts would continue to drift to a more dark and primal state, subtle and passively beginning to pursue their wants through convenient means. At Tier 3, a user has the potential to use nine units of brine. Tier 4 At Tier 4 the body ceases degradation, starting to become acclimated to the new infestation of soul and body. The body would passively have a minor burning sensation, as blood became impossible to clot as it continued to lose viscosity- smelling of salt, rather than iron. There would be less of a want to eat, drink, and perform bodily necessities, while breathing would slow along with heartbeat. They would begin to pursue their thoughts impulsively, though not actively. At Tier 4, a user has the potential to use twelve units of brine. Tier 5 At Tier 5 the body would continue the course it did at staying weak and tired, with all bodily needs and functions ceasing entirely. The heart of the mage would cease to beat, and blood completely converted to brine that slowly flowed through the veins. Far more impulsively, and near actively, a mage would pursue whatever their desire was to an obsessive degree, taking precedent of whatever they wished over any others- almost as if possessed. Their skin would pale or darken, and would become either dry or in similar moisture to a membrane. At Tier 5, a user has the potential to use fifteen units of brine. Philios A Philios is a creature descended from The Abyss below the waves, having in some form been a part of deific influence and creation. They vary greatly from one another, typically keeping distinctly within a few features. While unnatural in any environment but their home, they may be summoned by Tidesages as a permanent (until death) companion that mostly inhibits their ability to cast Thalassos magic, save for certain aiding spells. A Philios can be up to nine feet tall, with the strength of an olog and the slow speed to mirror such. They bear natural weapons such as claws, teeth, tentacles, and natural spines that vary in number or general presence. A Philios is as easy to slay as any other creature, made of flesh and blood, however holding a fortuitous stamina and an immunity to flame. A Philios is actually capable of higher intelligence, holding in some lesser form an ability to speak, with difficulty granted from their otherworldly biology. They can understand names and remember and recall faces and minor memories though to no significant extent. Redlines - A Philios must be kept to a “Basic” degree. A Clawed monster with a drilled shell for an arm and jagged teeth, a large and horrifying biped with finned arms and an angler-like appendage upon it’s head and dozens of sharp and oversized teeth. This must be well described, and kept basic- no “Rapid Regeneration” or “Steam Blast” that some aquatic creatures may carry. For simplicity, weaponry is limited to tooth, claw, tentacle, and spines that do not shoot from the body. - All things the Philios has must be described upon the signed item. Anything undescribed may not be used in combat or out of combat. - A Philios (As described) is limited to nine feet tall, with Olog strength and generally “slow” speed. They possess an intelligence capable of memory and are as damageable as any other creature, with iron, claws, and so on- only carrying immunity to flame. - A Tidesage commanding a Philios may not cast spells unless suffixed with the “Tidecommand” addition. The Tidesage may cast again a full narrative day after the Philios is killed. - When a Philios is killed, the Tidesage is profoundly exhausted, incapable of fighting. - A Tidesage may only have and command one Philios at a time, requiring a new ritual whenever their original is killed. Details of Commanding a Philios and that extent are listed in the “Tidecommand” spell. Brine and Manipulation Brine Manipulation is regarding different aspects of using brine- a course for the basis of Thallassos. In effect most spells use or begin from brine, and as such mastery of the usage of brine is required for success within the magic. As time goes on, the tidesage would begin producing small amounts of brine within them, though by no noticeably-different means. Brine is a vaguely-warm liquid with a more viscous, almost gelatinous consistency. While in conjuration from a caster, it would glow in shades from brown, to dark blue, to teal, and ultimately to purple- staying within a range of similar colours. These typically depend on the caster, and their connection to the magic. Brine eats away at lifeforce and organic matter, primarily feeding off of the blood of the caster’s supplement. These are separated into ‘Units’. A caster has a limited amount of potential-brine before eventually succumbing to exhaustion and requiring a full-day to recharge. Spells For all matter of reference, if a spell is references as requiring a certain number of emotes, it casts on the final emote. Example, if a spell specifies requiring 1 emote connection and 2 emotes additionally, the third total emote is when the spell would cast. Tidecommand Spells Rituals Calling of Corruption This ritual requires two tidesages, of tier 3 and above to gather a small body of water (typically a pond) at minimum 4x4 and 10x10 at its greatest. The mages involved would kneel upon opposite ends (As symmetrical as possible), and rest their hands upon the skin of the water and would begin to funnel brine into the liquid. Slowly a purple or brown fume would tinge the water and stain it’s colour, slowly killing all life within. The water would afterward be corrupted, prepared for whatever ritual or dark art that may be needed for it lay ahead. A pool will always remain corrupted, unable to host life, be drinkable, or purified. If performed on a paladin chancery, it would begin to fumigate and bellow a gaseous purple light and fume as the waters turned from gold to a brown or purple colour. Manipulating the exposed power of Xan, it would amplify rituals greatly (Listed below.) Unlike a ordinary pool of water, should a Chancery oncemore have paladin blood spilled within it, it is purified and cleansed. Requirements: 8 Total units of Brine, two tidesages of tier 3 and above, a 4x4-10x10 pool of water. Mechanics: Pool (Or Chancery) is corrupted, allowing for rituals to take place within it. Redlines - Pool corruption counts as a lore area, and requires ST signage. - If there was no water within a paladin chancery, such would begin to flow down from it’s focal point and replace the lightwell below. - Drinking from a corrupted pool would render someone extremely sick as if afflicted by the stomach flu and would pass in a couple of days. - Sitting within a pool would not kill someone, but would eat away and drain at them. Calling of The Siren Description: This ritual begins the process of corruption, a connection to Dresdrasil’s remnant power, from teacher to student. Requirements: 1 total unit of brine, 1 tidesage of tier 4 and above, a corrupted pool, and a willing subject. Mechanics: By exposing a prospect-tidesage to Dresdrasil’s remnants and Brine, they may begin the corruption and imbuement processes that are required to begin to fathom and practice Thalassos. Redlines - This ritual only can connect one student at a time - This ritual is required for the creation of the MA - The Tier 4+ Tidesage must possess a TA to perform this ritual. - The created MA would begin at Tier 0. Calling of The Depths Description: This ritual requires three tidesages of tier 3 and above to gather surrounding a corrupted body of water. A pact as old as time, the Binding tidesage seeks a companion or guardian to guard them in a way they cannot. Effectively becoming non-casters themselves, they would control and bind themselves to a minion of their creation. Requirements: 14 total units of brine, 3 tidesages of tier 3 and above, a corrupted pool, and an ST signed item representing the presence of the Philios (Creation). Mechanics: The Binded tidesage takes on responsibility of commanding a Philios by it’s direct creation, gaining an ability to use Tidecommand as a spell. They can no longer cast other spells until the death of the Philios. The Philios can be up to nine feet tall, with the strength of an olog and the slow speed to mirror it, alongside having natural weapons such as claws and teeth. The look of a Philios is entirely up to the user for Aesthetic choice described on the signed item. A Philios is as easy to slay as any other normal creature save for immunity to flame, and may only follow commands as described by the tidesage. They may be given names to understand and follow after. Redlines - This Ritual only summons one Philios, for whoever is the first to extend a hand to it when it surfaces from the pool. Calling of Abyssal Home Description: A place to call home is needed for any Tidesage, and spreading the influence of Dresdrasil and her spawn is necessary to the survival and spread of their ilk. By summoning a obelisk of Dresdrasil’s own creation from the abyss, they may effectively taint the land surrounding them, effectively allowing for the spawn of Dresdrasil’s creatures. Requirements: 16 total units of brine, 3 Tidesages of Tier 3 and above, a corrupted pool, and ST Oversight and Signage of wherever placed. Mechanics: After summoning an Abyssal Obelisk, the Obelisk (Nine feet in height, represented with Sea Lantern or Dark Prismarine blocks) would slowly begin to taint a nearby area, at maximum in a 50x50 square around it as the focal point. This area would begin to harbour unnatural sea-life, heavily mutated, deformed, and aggressive- including an unbound Philios, which would attack any and all but Tidesages who enter the area. The Obelisk would give a salty-burning sensation to skinned touch, but could be broken with effort of blunt tools and strength. Redlines - This area may act and counts as an event site. - The Obelisk must be placed on a shoreline, in the open air, and may only be concealed by natural fauna if such exists. - The Aforementioned shoreline must be that of a lake or ocean, a pond being far too small. - The Obelisk is about as strong as stone, and weighs upwards of a 2,000 pounds- requiring a Golem, Animati, or contraptions to move and lift. - The Obelisk, if placed within a 50 block reach of a city, must have RO permission to be placed. - Once an Obelisk is destroyed, the taint would be removed and all life would after time return to normal. Calling of The Watery Grave Description: Tidesages still fall prey to mortal desire, fallacy, and failure. In the case of mortals manipulating the powers of a dead god, By locking this person away, kept from drowning due to the boons granted by their practice, a Tidesage may be sealed away beneath the waves by a group of others. Requirements: 18 total units of brine, at least 3 Tidesages of tier 3 and above, a corrupted pool, a semi-sealed vessel (With ventilation for water to flow in freely), a Tidesage of tier 3 and above (To perform upon) Mechanics: A subject tidesage of tier 3 and above would be restrained and put into a vessel with ventilation to allow free flow of water, and locked away beneath the waves. Their vessel would not move, and would be in one place- a Corrupted pool. Redlines - A Non-Tidesage or a Tidesage of tier 2 and below may not be locked away, as they would merely drown and respawn to CT. - This acts as a soft PK, unless the magic is dropped and the character drowns, allowing for respawn. - The site of a Watery Grave must be in a corrupted pool, and such is marked with an ST-Locked sign signifying it’s validity. - Someone may be freed from a watery grave by those on the outside at any time, though the Tidesage locked within would likely be greatly malnourished and withered, taking some time to fully physically recover. Mental stability from potentially being locked away a great time may never return, depending on the roleplayer. Calling of The Lady Description: By inheriting traits and power further from Dresdrasil, one would slowly begin conversion to a half-breed, something inbetween mortal and immortal; their original form deeply corrupted and destroyed, by overwhelming one and drowning them in brine, they may begin to slowly convert into a Drowned. Requirements: 20 total units of brine, 1 Tidesage of Tier 4 and above, 2 Tidesages of tier 3 and above, a Corrupted Pool, and a willing subject. Mechanics: By collectively using brine to drown one in a corrupted pool by causing it to overflow with such, they may transform a Tidesage of Tier 4 and above into a Drowned. Redlines - This spell does not have an empowered version. Calling of The Siren [Empowered] Description: With the vulnerability of Xan’s influence ebbing over onto the mortal plane, corrupted with the influence of Dresdrasil’s remnants, a prospect-tidesage may accelerate with a much quicker, although painful version of transformation. Requirements: 1 total unit of brine, 1 tidesage of tier 4 and above, a corrupted chancery, a willing subject Mechanics: By connecting a student through a corrupted chancery, they begin a significantly more painful and violent transformation process; skipping through Tier 0 in a few moments, and unto tier 1 directly. Redlines - This ritual only affects one subject at a time - This ritual would be reflected upon the MA, stating the student starts at Tier 1 - This ritual is exceptionally tolling on the subject, exhausting them for at least twenty four hours. Calling of The Depths [Empowered] Description: Calling upon the vulnerability of Xan, power corrupted and volatile, a Tidesage may use a corrupted chancery to summon an abnormally intelligent or powerful creature, though upon the chancery’s purification or destruction, it would instantly be banished. Requirements: 18 total units of brine, 3 tidesages of tier 3 and above, a corrupted chancery, and an MArt Submission + St Signed item representing the presence of the Philios (Creation). Mechanics: The Philios created is granted significant creative and mechanical freedom with the MArt, so long as it is accepted by the story team. Should the Chancery be purified, the Philios would instantly begin turning to brine upon the ground it stood upon. Redlines - A Philios created from a chancery must be made with an MArt. - Should the chancery be purified, the Philios is instantly unusable in combat and would begin to drain. - A Philios summoned from a chancery may not have Tidecommand spells cast upon it. Calling of Abyssal Home [Empowered] Description: By manipulating the power once holding The Wardens of Xan together and in place to defend the Chancery, a Tidesage may summon an Abyssal Obelisk, twisted by the melding of power and allowing for a mimic like effect, though the Obelisk would take up the focal point of The Chancery. Requirements: 18 total units of brine, 3 Tidesages of Tier 3 and above, a corrupted Chancery, and ST Oversight and Signage of wherever placed. Mechanics: Summoning an Abyssal Obelisk from the depths, it would sit in the focal point of The Chancery and would be immovable from it’s site. Aswell, two unbound Philios of normal level would spawn and defend the site, unable to move from it’s general location. If engaged in combat, The Obelisk would activate and would glow a deep blue colour. For each ten emotes performed by The Philios’s, another would spawn from The Chancery to defend it’s powered site. The Obelisk would be considered as strong as steel and immune to flame, and would require profound strength or effort from tools or magic to break. If the Obelisk is under threat, a Philios will stop whatever they were previously doing to defend it. Redlines - Philios spawned from a Chancery would carry the normal attributes of Philios, not being upon or able of being upon an MArt level. - Philios will stop whatever they are doing, no matter the importance, to defend the chancery. This does not apply to bound Philios. - An unbound Philios will not leave the general “Area” or “Building” of their chancery to attack others. They may be commanded by any Tidesage in the area, taking upon the order first given to them. - Unbound Philios may be played by ET, or present Tidesages, if possible as spread out as possible. - Commanding an Unbound Philios does not impair ones abilities to cast, as if commanding a bound Philios. - Commanding an Unbound Philios without having a Bound Philios does not grant the ability to access the “Tidecommand” suffixed spells. Calling of The Watery Grave [Empowered] Description: Using the vulnerability of Xan’s power, one may use a corrupted chancery to banish a Tidesage forever into beyond, irretrievably. Requirements: 30 total units of Brine, 2 Tidesages of Tier 5, and 2 or more Tidesages of Tier 3 and above, alongside a corrupted chancery. The Subject must be a Tidesage of Tier 3 and above. Requires ST oversight and enforcement. Mechanics: A subjected Tidesage is locked within a vessel which allowed for some ventilation of air or waterflow, is pushed within a corrupted chancery. Due to the power residually existing from the chancery, a portal would open, and the subjected Tidesage would be locked away into the beyond, effectively acting as a hard PK. Redlines A Subject to this ritual must be a Tidesage of tier 3 and above. The Subject of this ritual, once commenced, may not be retrieved physically or spiritually, or communed with spiritually. The Subject of this ritual is under the effects of a hard-pk, and may not be revived through monks, dropping of the magic (including dropping the magic within 24 hrs of the ritual), or any deific interference. Enchantments Using different aspects of the abyss below, a Tidesage may imbue their effects within an item known as a Poiema which grants undrowned Tidesages and Mortals minor attributes of what they can perform or do. With brine and technique, a Tidesage can easily perform this task. Taking three emotes in total, each enchantment would take one unit of brine per emote. This process is freeform, and emotes are left to user creativity when crafting Poiemas. Brining Object Effect: Imbuing this upon an object would give a light draining effect to whatever it may touch. It may dry skin and remove hair of where applied in the case of an equippable item (Such as a ring or helm). The item Brining was imbued upon would give a visual effect of being waterlogged, tarnished, and rusted. Enchantment Effect: If used in the creation of, or on an exposed or healing wound, such would have the effect of causing intense searing pain and minor muscle spasms. Gilling Object Effect: Imbuing this enchantment upon an object would mimic the effect of having gills, effectively allowing someone to breathe underwater. Enchantment Effect: Gilling must be imbued upon something that is worn upon the user to give effect, such as a ring or mask. When worn upon a user both in and not in effect, varying amounts of small three-inch cuts would be upon the neck of the user. Eyes of The Abyss Object Effect: Imbuing this enchantment upon an object would grant a subtle and light glow upon it’s physical manifestation, worn or not. Enchantment Effect: When equipped the eyes of the user would give off a faint bioluminescent glow, the colour of yellow, black, or white taking over their entire eye- along with blue or purple marks reminiscent of scales that were placed along the users eyes. While equipped, the user would have vision as good as if it were normal when underwater or dark places, immune to particulate blocking vision within their eyes aswell. If the darkness however were to be magical or blindness induced, then they would affect the wearer as normal. Skin of The Lurker Object Effect: Imbuing this enchantment upon an object would cause it to harden and calcify, the surface from end to end becoming scale-like in nature, underneath a white membrane that retained the hardness of the previous material. Enchantment Effect: When equipped, the user would gain scales or chitin that covered them in various places, though by no significant degree. These scales would take on dark colours, primarily blacks and blues. When in a cold environment, or put under intense barometric pressure, the user would find themselves unaffected and rather normal. However, ones blood would begin to run cold- and they would be clammy, and the temperature of the surrounding environment to the touch. Weapons of The Lady Object Effect: Imbuing this enchantment upon an object would cause it to ossify and become made of bone, retaining a similar hardness given the thickness of the object. Enchantment Effect: Once equipped, the user would gain natural weapons of claws and teeth of abnormal size and shape. Jagged and many, potentially long and almost fibrous teeth, alongside an additional 3 or 4 inches of hardened bone on the fingertips, sharpened to claws. However, due to the unwieldy sizes and shapes of both, the fingertips would render any armor fitted or weapons in hand unwieldable, and teeth would limit speech to become impaired as if there was some blockage within the mouth. These changes to the body occur over a couple of minutes at no pain to the user, however they may not be equipped in combat. Call of The Siren Object Effect: Imbuing this enchantment upon an object would cause it to shimmer and reflect as if created of water, though merely aesthetic to the actual piece. Enchantment Effect: When equipped, the user’s voice would become harmonic and angelic, irresistibly drawing and enchanting, unnaturally so. Lament of The Deep Object Effect: Imbuing this enchantment upon an object would cause it to become brittle and tinge a deep sea-green colour, with a ever-consistent slime to it. Enchantment Effect: This item can bind the conscious of an Abyssal creature such as a Philios, which effectively keeps its mind split to two. Once a Philios is given touch to the item, they may store their being within such as a “Backup” effectively. Shoulda Philios die and another be summoned, they may come in contact with a Lamented item and have their conscious restored to when the initial contact was made, having no recollection of their death most certainly. Should the Philios be living or dead, one may communicate with such forever in their mind through the item while equipped. Should the original creator of the item find a new Philios to bind to, the Philios’ conscious which inhabited the original item is nulled, and forever gone. Enchantment Redlines - Muscle spasms caused by a Brining enchant are minor, and would by no means forcefully induce someone to move in a way they would not normally. - Gilling-gills would act as a secondary vector to intake air into the lungs, should the mouth and nose be blocked. The same does not go in the same for the nose and mouth to intake water in place of gills. - Magically caused blindness or darkness would not be visible through eyes of the abyss. - Eyes of the abyss does not replace or function for lost or nonfunctioning eyes. - Skin of the lurker does not function as natural armour, and magically caused coldness or below-zero temperatures would take wear on the user - Weapons of the lady have the hardness of bone and rock, not able to penetrate thick steel and could break upon it. One cannot wield weapons or speak fully properly with the bodily changes given. They aswell could not speak properly- this being overlapped by the Call of The Siren enchantment. - The Call of The Siren enchantment does not “charm” nearby people magically, merely allowing for the player to allure and charm those around them naturally. - One may not metagame information (Or send information at all) through telepathy of an item made of Lament of The Deep - Should an item be destroyed with the Lament of The Deep enchantment, so too would the saved conscious of The Philios. General Red Lines -Thallassos is incompatible with deific magics. -Thallassos is categorized under both Deific and Dark magics. If for any extensive purpose it needs further classification, it is simply under “Deific”. -Thallassos does not get their power from any form of patron or diety directly, not being affected by anything which may cause disconnection. -A Tidesage would violently react to a paladin’s purging as it would cause great distress and pain. -Line of sight is required for all Thallassos spells, including one’s Philios. A Philios however, may go behind cover to continue attacking something or performing an action. -A Tidesage may make use of a casting implement or focus. -A Tidesage is still effected by voidal poisoning and similar effects. -A Tidesage may not use brine or convert brine from their environment to replenish, use, or fill ones own brine reserve from. -A Tidesage converts their blood into brine during casting, causing it to be spent when performing a spell. This does not inhibit their way of life or functioning abnormally besides what is described within Corruption. -A Tidesage’s strength, endurance, or stamina is not inhibited, it is limited at the very maximum to the strength of one’s race; gaining no benefit from increases in any of the previous categories, magically, herbally, and so on. Tier Progression Tier 0 - Tier 0 lasts 1 week. - No abilities, spells, rituals, or brine count. A change and metamorphosis of the psyche begins. Tier 1 - Tier 1 lasts 1 week. Purpose (OOC) Originally writing this lore, I got a good bit into it before someone had alerted me that Thallassos used to be a magic; I was merely writing a magic which fit into an aesthetic I liked. Taking some work from Perrin and an old write from Frott and Zarsies, I was able to put together a piece of lore which I believe has a very good aesthetic which varies and allows for a lot of opportunity and roleplay between Tidesages and communities. I believe this is something that any type of mage may want to get into and services an interest of culty, eldritch, dark-water esque roleplay which currently is in no niche upon the server. With proper cultivation and roleplay, I believe this magic could flourish into something memorable and fun for multiple communities. Citation Spoiler A grand and sincere thanks to; Zidoax, for resources on similar aesthetics (Such as The Shadow over Innsmouth), and encouragement Archipelago, for looking over for spelling errors and ideas upon aesthetics, alongside encouragement All my friends, for being my friends, their encouragement and answering any dumb questions I may have asked Perrin, for his old Thallassos lore, though I personally have never met or known about the person I thank them for the resources they granted Zarsies and Frott, for encouragement and inspiration of their Augury write
  8. Revenants, the Assassins of Ichor Lore A newly discovered ritual using the forbidden Dark Arts of Blood Magic, Mysticism, Naztherak, and/or Dark Shamanism has awoken a new breed of creatures; a new form of rebirth. By using Blood Magic and various runes to symbolize life and to create a new physical husk, Mysticism to handle and anchor a Ghost into this mortal coil, and Dark Shamanism and Naztherak for their work with the spirit Kor and power of corrupted souls they can place a Ghost back into a physical form. Revenants are a twisted and demented recreation of their former selves. Although they hold great resemblance to their old selves and retain the memories of their lives before, they are twisted and horrific. These creatures are brought back with a vengeance and are weapons to the sorcerers that made them. These creatures, although possessing a sense of freewill, are brought back with a purpose - the haunting image of a feared figure or a loved one returning to physical form with the purpose of bloodshed. These creatures have a blackish and grey muted corpse like appearance with various cracks covering their skins that glow red with genus, specifically in the places that they suffered physical harm in their living time. Their hair is always black and wisp like with its movements like plumes of smoke and their voices appear like shattered and distorted mirrors of their old sound - changing in tones and oftentimes speaking entirely in Al’ahrn-Durngo. When these creatures are inflicted with physical damage they will simply have their grey skin flaking away into the air with a soft red mist following into seemingly nothing. Due to the nature of their creation, a haunting image of the dead, these creatures find themselves unable to hide their face either due to vanity or the means to strike fear into the hearts of those who dare go against them. Physiology Revenants are beings, forged from blood and bound to the soul. Their bodies are forged from pure blood magic and their souls bound by a mystic. While there is a connection between their bodies and soul, it is much more loose than one would be with a normal descendant. This allows them to have a higher pain tolerance, so while they still feel some pain, they do not feel as much and they are able to continue performing their action without much hindrance. They can lose limbs, ligaments, and legs and will not stop until their objective is completed unless they receive a fatal blow to the head, their heart is destroyed, or they are decapitated. While a revenant can lose limbs and arms without caring much, this still affects their ability to fight or move effectively. Say they lost a leg, they would continue to do their work, but would probably stumble and could only move on one leg, severely hindering their speed and effectiveness in combat. Along with this, Revenants possess the strength of a human male at peak physical condition, allowing them to wield a majority of weapons fairly well. REDLINES Revenants may lose limbs and ligaments without much care and can take a hit much better than most descendants can, as they are essentially a ghost within a forced husk. While Revenants can wield most weapons without much care, this does not mean they are masters in using that weapon, they are only able to lift and wield their weaponry at the level they had prior to life or if taught. Any form of headshot or heart shot would be a kill for the Revenant, meaning they can take damage to most of their bodies with little to no drawbacks besides the obvious ones like losing a limb. Abilities Revenants, although suffering the loss of their abilities they had in life, are no walk in the park for those who may encounter them. Much like a Rogue Blood Mage, these creatures have increased agility, dexterity, balance, and reflexes. Alongside this these creatures are granted with a form of “immortality” in the sense that they will never again parish from old age or disease. Marrow: Iron Revenants have the ability similar to Beserker Blood Mages which allows them to forge weapons from genus. However, unlike a Beserker, a Revenant has the ability to simply forge these weapons within their hands from the genus already flowing within them, the genus used to create them. The weapons can vary depending on the Revenant, but can be anything from a simple sword to an arrow which may be launched. The difference from the Iron Marrow to its original is that these creatures cannot forge large masses such as shields or armor with their genus. The only requirement is that the craft must have a sharp point or edge. REDLINES: A Revenant may not create shields, walls, or any physical obstacle using this ability, only edged weapons and projectiles. Launches projectiles may not fly further than five blocks without the assistance of other magic. Projectiles and weapons varying in size may cost different amounts of genus. For example; forming a simple projectile or arrow from genus would take half a unit while creating a sword or axe would take up a full one. Projectiles cannot be formed larger than one foot in length and six inches in diameter. Weapons can be up to three feet in length maximum. All projectiles take up to three emotes, one to draw genus, one to form, and one to fire. Projectiles may rotate around the player for up to two extra emotes before requiring them to fire or disintegrate. They cannot deflect attacks when they are being held onto and disintegrate once they fire past five blocks or pierce their target successfully. All weapons take up three as well, one to draw genus, two to form and have the same hardness as ferrum. They disintegrate once they are dropped or are no longer within the hands of the Revenant. Marrow: Sanguine Sigh The Sanguine Sigh is a taxing and costly ability used often times in desperate measures by the Revenants to finish off their opponents. The Sanguine Sigh allows for the Revenant to create a red haze of genus in the air out from their form in all directions which causes anyone inside this mist have a red glaze causing them only to see in shades of red, but the fog itself is not impenetrable. When inside the fog anyone who is not the Revenant that cast the spell will begin to hear their heart beating violently and loudly in their chest - causing them to lose the sense of sound to anything else around them, but of course leaving the mist would stop this illusion and return those affected back to their normal hearing. REDLINES: The mist may be breathed three blocks away from the Revenant, and having a radius of five blocks. Anyone who enters the fog would hear the sound of their heart pumping in their ear and the only way to deafen it is to either leave the fog or anyone with a rune of silence. Anyone in the mist also gets an anxious feeling and can put them on edge, as well as give a slight boost of adrenaline. The mist may be blown away with enough time and effort. When inside the fog, your vision is glazed over with a sort of red tint. This ability requires three units of genus to perform. REDLINES There must be one of each mage type in the ritual, one person cannot count for two of the four required Dark Arts. There must be a Blood Mage, a Mystic who knows both Handling and Anchoring, a Naztherak, and/or a Dark Shaman. Revenants can ONLY be made from Poltergeists with accepted CAs. Revenants cannot veil their faces in any fashion. Revenants do not need to carry totems to use their Rogue-like enhanced abilities, but must have the necessary amount of genus required. Revenants cannot learn any other forms of magic but may wield enchanted weapons as long as it is not holy. Revenants are able to be bound by any methods from the four Dark Arts used to create them, allowing for Revenants to be stolen (this does not require consent from the Revenant nor the original creators) The ritual to create Revenants must be taught specifically in roleplay. Revenants are affected by any magic or weaponry that are meant to harm undead or unnatural creatures. Revenants lose all abilities they had prior to becoming a Revenant, including those of being a Ghost and any magics they had prior to death (if any). Revenant Marrows cannot be learned by normal Blood Mages. Revenant cannot be recreated after death, it is one and done. Revenants get six units of genus to perform abilities with, but cannot have their genus collected after death. Upon death the Revenants would flake away into the air in a torrent of flakes of grey and faint red mist, only their soul remaining unless destroyed by holy magic or a shaman. Every 48 hours they can regenerate back to the six units of genus they usually have. Final Notes The purpose of this Blood Magic addition is to bring together different communities for the sake of ritualistic RP that Blood Magic was commonly known for, but however seems to be lacking in as of late. This also offers fun storylines for Ghosts and those who knew the Ghost characters in life, but does not give the same feel as a Lich or other undead creature as these would not be the types of creatures you would play on a day to day basis, similar to inferis or other Dart Art CAs, and would simply be brought back for storyline purposes - the haunting image of your loved one coming back with a vengeance. Please try your best to leave some sort of constructive criticism so that I may use it as feedback to see how the community feels about this specific lore piece and how I should take it moving forward. All opinions and comments are valid and I appreciate all feedback. -Luv Lore and Concept by: Luv Co-Author: pundimonium Suggestions by: Deer__, Jlyoko, HeeroZero, and Starfelt
  9. I looked up at the darkened sky, the stars twinkling faintly. Midnight, I thought to myself, Where is she? As I looked around, I spotted a figure on the rocks, wondering if it was my fiance. I started walking towards it, hoping I was right. Then I heard it. Faintly at first, but an eerie song carried through the air, reaching me and sending chills down my spine. I walked forwards, not even noticing that I was moving towards the creature. Its song started drawing me towards it, and as I got closer, I realized my mistake. But by then it was too late. I examined the creature, its elegant features being quite terrifying up close. Once I was close enough, it hit me to the ground with its powerful tail, then dove into the water and swam further out, using its beautiful song to drag me to my demise... *** Sirens are born of watery deaths, and depending on your appearance beforehand, the changes you may go through while becoming one may vary. The features of these creatures are similar to those of elves while they're on land. They're fairly tall with pointed ears. However, a defining characteristic of these creatures is that of their dark hair and dark eyes. To become a siren, one must find a 'bottomless pool' of water. Once there, you drop an item made of aurum into the water as a sacrifice. You then dive into the water without any armor or weapons. Two beautiful sirens will rush towards you and end your mortal life. From there, your character will undergo some changes, they will grow taller and their ears will become more pointed, but while in the water, their legs will change, becoming powerful tails, their fingers almost turning to claws, their eyes will become an inky black, and they won't need to breathe while in the water, allowing them to stay beneath the water for as long as they desire. After they're turned to sirens for the first time, they can go back onto land, although it will take 30 Elven Minutes to go back to their 'human form.' However, when they wish to return to the water, it takes 5 Elven Minutes to become a siren once more.
  10. -=- Dryads -=- Lore Revision Written by ExoticRoleplay -=- Origins -=- Dryads are an ancient species of arboreal creatures who have resided within nature for as long as time has been recorded. Once upon a time, they were considered to be entities of legend, capable of great magical power. Though as their population waxes and wanes in sync with some unknown cycle of the natural world, more and more have come to emerge from the wilds, allowing themselves to be known to those who they deem worthy. Others may choose to permanently reside within their forested homes, far away from the watchful eye of the Descendents. They are aloof, and detached from modern society, acting as watchful guardians over the places they consider to be a piece of their natural domain. -=- The Blossoming -=- No true consensus has ever been reached about how Dryads have been made in present day, or even thousands of years ago. Many believe it is a process that comes naturally embedded within the minds of female Wood Elves, and others of more religious belief may interpret it as a blessing granted by the Earth-Mother Cerridwen. The prior is more commonly believed, but both concepts revolve around an innate connection to nature. The process of becoming a Dryad may begin at the age of five, or eight-hundred. Some women may never feel it at all. To some it can be interpreted as a faint desire to abandon the life they have, to live among the trees as was intended for their people- Away from the strife of war and oppressive governments. For an unfortunate few others, it can be a sort of dream-like geas, where they are mindlessly driven from their homes and into the wilderness, functioning upon their instinct alone to guide them to freedom. It is because of this that young children, or even mothers may one day disappear, never to be seen from again by their family. After leaving home, the prospective Dryad will travel far into the wilds, going beyond the sight of any man-made construction and immersing herself completely within the canopies of the surrounding forests, or rolling hills and mesas. During this process it is very common for the woman to abandon her clothing and personal effects, donning herself in paints, ichors, and plants derived from the soils and plants of her surroundings- After which, she will fall into a comatose state, in which they will wander… Before laying down among the roots of a tree or bush which they are compatible with. There they will remain, their bodies soon overtaken and disappearing beneath the twisted roots, as if being embraced by the earth itself. After being absorbed within the roots of the tree, a thick, magically-infused sap will leech outward and layer over their body, solidifying near instantaneously into a ‘pod’ of solid amber. Here they will be sustained, requiring no form of food or water as they are essentially placed into stasis. This is the first step of a transformation, one which may take anywhere from a week, to a year to complete. The tree during this process will be indiscernible from any other, aside from a difference in vibrancy. Additionally, once this happens, the branches and roots of the tree will refuse to do so much as budge by the hand of a Druid, as the natural bond between them forfeits instead to the Dryad. -=- Dryad Physiology -=- Once emerging from their ‘stasis’, the Dryad may not even appear to be the same person that they once were in the form of their Descendent selves. Their body and soul will have now become one with nature, leading them to develop (ironically) unnatural traits that are similar to those of the plant they bound themselves with, adhering even to the seasons. These changes may be subtle, or they may be defining of the Dryad as a whole. Their skin may become textured or colored similarly to the bark of their tree, with rough patches along the spine and the outsides of their limbs. Or, skin that is fibrous and green. Many Dryads will choose to remain wearing clothing- Though there are some ‘purists’ who will choose to make clothing out of sections of their plant that they manage to harvest- Or those that choose not to wear clothing at all, if their natural biology conceals enough to make them appear modest. For example, a Dryad which binds themselves to a sapling, unless they are a child, may become three to four feet tall. If one binds themselves to a berry or fruit tree, they may sprout flowers that become those respective fruits. Their spit may become sap, and they may cry nectar- And they may even be host to the same insects as their tree, like butterflies. On another hand, they can always embody other natural aspects, such as sprouting antlers or horns of wood, and deer-like legs comprised of flexible wood and bark. Dryads truly are a versatile race of people, though it all depends on the nature of what plants they bind themselves to. In addition to the physical alterations that they receive from their transformation, Dryads will also change mentally. In doing so, they may become more aloof and carefree. In fact, almost every Dryad is impartial and pacifistic- Unless it comes to protecting their lands, of course. There are some Dryads who will be entirely untrusting of any person other than members of their own race, and will hide their distaste for the other races behind a facade of airheadedness, to make themselves seem less of a threat… Then again, there are some Dryads who are just as dimwitted as any normal person. So they do truly vary. A Dryad will instinctively know how to return to her tree, as her soul is tethered to it. She feels as it feels- The changes in the soil, such as drought. When the tree is struck by an axe, it will feel similarly to being stabbed to the Dryad, regardless of how far she may be from it. If the plant is destroyed, then it shall wither away rapidly- Leaving the seed permanently buried beneath the earth until the Dryad is able to retrieve it once again. Additionally, fellow Dryads will consider one another as blood-siblings, more so than their real siblings. -0- Bonsai Dryads -o- There are only three known circumstances in which a Dryad will be reborn as what has been affectionately referred two as a ‘bonsai’. Named after the Farlander tradition of pruning a plant’s roots and branches to prevent growth, these Dryads tend most often to be connected to host plants which they purposely stunt the growth of. Pruning one’s plant is considered to be a horrifically painful process, as the Dryad feels all of what their plant feels- So it would essentially equate to feeling as if one’s own fingers were being severed with each clip of their roots. The only way to go through this process purposely without inflicting pain is for one to either reshape the roots using their own control over the plant, or to explicitly ask it not to take in nutrients- Thus, causing it to remain in a smaller state. This is most often considered a selfish process, as it does not allow the plant to truly grow. The only exception to this, is if one was a child prior to transformation, or a fully-grown Dryad binds themselves to an immature plant- Causing them to revert into a smaller form of about 3’-4’. Bonsai Dryads are viewed by other Dryads as the sort of ‘beloved little sisters’, but to others they can be seen as a nuisance, due to their immaturity and rambunctious nature. As the plant ages, so will the Dryad, going through the natural cycle of their life before coming fully grown. This can only be reverted if they reattune to a smaller plant. -=- Connection to Nature -=- There is a countless number of plants that Dryads can originate from, though typically it is limited to those which can be classified as trees or bushes. Sometimes they may be as mundane as a juniper bush, or as massive as a redwood tree. Though it is usually always something that grows at least to the height of over three feet, not length (like vines). There may be circumstances in which a Dryad may link to a tree of magical nature, which creates a breed all of its own. This is typically not the case however, as the bond is only compatible with natural plants, unless they are formed with some sort of Druidic magic. The abilities of a Dryad are similar to those of a Druid, however they are focused with the intent of communicating and coexisting within nature, rather than restoring it. When in range of their tree or plant, they are able to commune with it- And control it, in a way similar to the Druids, gaining the ability to bend its branches and roots as if they were extensions of themselves. In this regard, it is better to think of their bonded plant as another, sentient person. As anything that it is ‘made’ to do, by proxy, will be through asking permission to do so- Like how some Dryads may request their trees to dig out a section beneath their roots for living space. They can not do anything that is physically unreasonable though, such as turning massive branches ninety degrees- As this will obviously harm almost any tree. However, they can increase the rate in which the blooming of fruits and flowers on their plant happens, though it requires an almost meditative focus. In fact, this is how many Dryads tend to sustain their diet- Though, they still do retain normal dietary preferences aside from this. When a Dryad is killed, they may be subject to simply ‘regrowing’ at the base of their plant, with a lack of memory of what occurred leading up to their death, as one expects. They may also do such a thing known as ‘Melding’, in which they sink through the surface of their tree where allowed, and remain hidden away. -=- The Amber Seed -=- After completing their transformation, the amber which surrounded the Dryad during the process of their change soaks back into the surrounding soil, save for a singular piece which can only be seen from beneath the roots of the tree- Embedded in the underside of the trunk similarly to the mouth of an octopus, amid the tendril-like roots. This ovular piece of amber is typically the size of a large apple- And incredibly dense. It is lost upon anybody what its true intention is- As they are coveted by the Dryads. Not even the close relatives of the former Elf would be allowed near it, without facing some sort of forcible removal from the area. It isn’t even entirely certain what the object is to the Dryad themselves. Referred to as an Amber Seed by those who are unassociated to the Dryads, this hefty, glowing gem is usually centered with decorative markings, or filled with mixtures of sprigs, seeds, or fruits. It will refuse to leave where it lies by the hand of anybody other than the Dryad which owns it- And is indestructible by any normal means. There is only two circumstances in which the Seed will require moving, and those are when a Dryad unattunes themselves from nature, or when the Dryad much relocate to a safer region, in the case of natural disaster or any form of colonization of the region, if she can not fight it off herself. When a Dryad removes the Seed from her tree, it will begin to wither and die. Though in the case of relocation, this is more-so a momentary goodbye, as within her hands she holds the only thing that can restore her bond to nature. A Dryad may travel several days or weeks before settling on a perfect location- During which she will be inseparable from her Seed, literally and metaphorically. It will remain embedded into the center of their breast, unable to be removed unless one were to kill them. At which point, it would simply crumble into a mundane, glass-like dust along with the rest of her body- Causing her to awaken among the wilds once again, with no memory of what had occurred. At the end of her travels, the Dryad may find a place to plant her Seed once more, at which point her beloved plant will begin to sprout once again. Unlike the countless years beforehand which it took to grow, a tree or bush may regrow to its original size in a matter of a month- Much to the shock of the surrounding wildlife. There does however exist an exception to this. In the circumstance that a Dryad is unable to find a suitable placement for her Seed, she may embed it among the roots of another plant along with herself, going through another cycle of rebirth in which she adopts the features of her new host. At some point, the Dryad’s original plant may grow too old, at which point it will begin to die- Regardless of the intervention of magic or healing. At which point the Dryad will have to find another plant. -=- Reversion to Elfism -=- There may be a point in which the Dryad can no longer maintain their connection to their tree- by their own choice or otherwise. When this occurs, the Dryad can retrieve their Amber Seed. After a couple of weeks of not having replanted their seed, the Dryad’s features will begin to be stripped from them. Each morning they wake up, they will find more sections of their bark-like skin having been replaced with flesh. Leaves may become hair once again, and after a certain point- Their Seed will finally release itself from the chest of the Dryad, glowing dim. By now, the plant they had been bound previously will have disintegrated to nothingness. Each day that passes however, they will grow fonder of their tree, and desire be around it- An instinct that would require being ignored if one were to truly wish to release themselves from the responsibilities of being a Dryad- Which isn’t common, but may happen if one truly desires to return to their former lives- Which they typically hold no obligation to do. The Amber Seed at this point will have been considered to be inactive. Many former Dryads choose to wear it as an adornment, or hide it away in a chest- As they feel an undying fondness to have it around them or in their hands, as one would treat a child. After a certain point the Seed will reawaken, glowing as brightly as it once did. Only then can it be replanted for the Dryad to resume their bond, unless they genuinely repent to the Aspects beforehand. The realm is a place of strife however. And surprisingly, an inability to replant is actually the least likely reason that many Dryads are disconnected from nature. Just like any other mortal race, Dryads are capable of contracting curses and parasites- Though they can not become undead. If a Dryad happens to be touched by a Fjarriauga Mother, or a Shade Father, the respective curses will root themselves in the body and soul of the Dryad just as any other person. Their bodies will react much more violently to the corruption however, and they may become physically ill, more than what is predicted for the process of transformation. If one were to become a Shade, their tree will begin to rot and turn black- Similarly to the parts of their body which once embodied their tree. If one becomes a Frost Witch, their tree will begin to freeze over, as if going through a black winter. The leaves gracing their tree will fall, and their skin will become brittle. If the normal processes for curing are not sought out, they will eventually succumb and become these cursed entities. They will lose their attunement to nature- And in doing so, their soul will feel shattered, as if a piece of them had been irrevocably torn away, their Amber Seed will simply dissolve into ash. -=- Redlines -=- -0- The Transformation Process -o- -0- Dryad Appearance and Physiology -o- -0- Dryad Mentality -o-
  11. Birth of the Orison Ritual Site of the first Guardian Grotto, a harrowing, yet beautiful reminder of the death of a druid. “And she appeared before them, those troubled minds, and the air was alive with sound of nature. She gave them a reassuring smile, reaching a hand out, as if to offer help. All was well.” It is a well known truth among druii and those that study the aspects or their faith, that devout druids who die ascend to the realm of the fae, to serve out their days as Soulbound Servants and Guardian Spirits. In the realm of fae, these spirits of passed druids are revered by all as wise men and oracles. Creatures of the fae flock from every corner of the realm to hear their words of wisdom. In the realm of fae, they are considered demigods, chosen of the aspects themselves. (The Fae Realm) In death, these sages reflect the souls of what they were in life. For those that sought the taste of battle in defense of the balance, they may find themselves as a spirit of fury, blessing those of the Twilight Bound. A gentler druid, a healer perhaps, may find themselves as a mending spirit of the Dayward Way. All these such spirits are revered amongst the fae creatures of the world. For those most dedicated servants of the aspects, there exists a special opportunity in life, during the most unlikeliest of times. That is, to become a Guardian Spirit capable of traversing betwixt the eternal forest and the mortal realm. These most devout servants may find themselves visited by one of these spirits to be taught the highly secretive ritual. With this knowledge, they are given the secret that they need to become one of them, to be given the ability in the afterlife to make the journey and return as a Guardian Spirit of the Descendents. However, this ritual may only be done on the brink of death. In their last moments, a druid may send out a final plea, one last wish to stay on Æos, on this place that they’ve so desperately tried to protect through their whole lives. And then, they must perform the ritual. The Discovery She saw blood everywhere. It stained the grasses around her with a deep crimson hue, glinting in the sunlight. And she looked to the side, seeing a bloodied bone knife cast aside, lying among the leaves a few feet away. And then it shot through her, an agonizing pain in her abdomen and she cried out. She looked down, and in her arms was her heart; a crying babe, wrapped in a green shawl. And her eyes slowly shut, fluttering desperately to try and stay awake as she faded into the cold embrace of death. Awaiti sat up in her bed, drenched with sweat. She rested a hand against her stomach, flat as it always was. The woman turned, pushing up out of the bed to stand, staggering over to a mirror in the room. She gripped the sides of the table, looking into her reflection with a silent, but bewildered expression. Her amber eyes stared right back at her, betraying only fear. But that was all. There was no blood, no screaming, no crying babe to hold. It left her unsettled, and compelled her to grab her cloak. And with that, she swiftly exited the room. The flames in the brazier of the shrine always shone the brightest at night, casting light in every which direction, onto the grass, onto the statues of the aspects, and now onto Awaiti, who was kneeling before it, bowed deeply in prayer. “Sweet mother, sweet mother, send your blessing unto me… preserve me…” “Father, father please. Have mercy on your faithful servant…” She pleaded like this for hours and hours, until the first rays of daybreak split the air, casting shadows of the leaves on the shrine. And on and on she pleaded, tears staining her weary face. “I don’t want to go! Not yet!” And her eyes were filled with light as she keeled over, blacking out against the cold morning ground. What followed barely made sense to her, flashes of white and green light, the crying of a babe. Visions of light took shape as fae energies and her dream came back to her. She was suddenly on the ground again, covered in blood. She was screaming, crying out in agony. And once more, her eyes began to flutter off to the cold and gentle dark. “Breathe, child,” She heard a gentle voice call to her. “Let go,” said a strong voice. And she shut her eyes for but a moment. And then opened them with white light coursing through. In an instant, the place around her was filled with a brilliant flash of fae light, all erupting from Awaiti. Flowers sprung up, creating brilliant displays of red and blue and purple. Trees sprouted almost instantly, tearing up the earth. But all was silent for Awaiti. She could hear no voices, feel no life. Life itself had all but left her battered form. Instead, it was in the world around her. And she drifted off. Her eyes shut once again, and Awaiti, just as she had in her dream, passed on from this world. But then, she was truly alive. There was warmth, and it was good. Awaiti looked down at her own mortal form, and smiled, knowing that all would be well for her child. They would live, and go on. Her eyes flung open, and she was back on the cold, hard ground. Awaiti stirred, knowing now what she had to do. And so she stood, going home to her bed to await that fateful day. The Orison Ritual Druids look on as a hierophant passes on, the air lighting up with fae mists as the energies ripple through, causing flowers and other life to spring up! circa 1650, colorized “Mother, mother please… father, look down on me… I want to be brave... I don’t want to die!” The ritual itself was used a great many years ago, in ages long forgotten, as a secret technique used amongst some of the most powerful and wise druids, in order to continue passing on their knowledge and guiding their people even after their own death. Since, it has fallen from minds, into myth, and then into legend, and then forgotten entirely. It has only resurfaced recently, discovered by Sister Awaiti Aureon, who saw glimpses of the ritual during a vision of her own death. Flashes of light, blasts of pure fae energy that rippled through nature, allowing life to flourish in its wake. These visions stayed with her throughout her whole life. What Awaiti saw was her own body expelling all of its druidic energies in one single moment. This act kills the druid immediately, but the blast of fae energy allows anyone in the vicinity to feel the effects of a fae ring for the day. The very wave of energy that is expelled from the druid has a similar effect to a fae ring, allowing those around them to hear the countless voices of nature for the rest of the day. It would emblazon druidic runes onto the stones around them, growing large trees and bushes almost instantly in the now hallowed land. A circle of flowers would sprung up all around in a spiral, creating a Guardian Fae Ring around the druid’s lifeless corpse. The wave of fae energy carries part of the druid’s very soul with it, tethering it to the land of the living. This created an anchor to Æos, allowing the traversal between these two interlinked planes. Such is the path that all those druii who wish to return to the mortal plane must follow. They must seek out a guardian spirit and learn the secrets of this most sacred ritual Guides and Redlines Requires a TA in Control and Communism to teach the Ritual, as well as being the aforementioned Guardian Spirit. In order to teach the Orison Ritual, an existing Guardian Spirit must show their student the ritual through Greensight. Attempting the ritual in any capacity is a PK. Requires a MA to perform the ritual. Attempting the ritual is a PK, no matter the outcome. Once you die, you’re dead, spirit or not. Guardian Fae Rings Fae rings have always been notoriously awe inspiring and potentially dangerous, for they create links between our realm and the Eternal Forests of the Fae. Normally though, these Fae Rings only allow lesser creatures of the realm to traverse the planes under the light of the full moon. They have the additional effect of imbuing descendants, whether they be human, dwed, or elf, the sudden ability to hear thoughts, instincts, and raw emotions of the flora and fauna around the ring, giving an experience of attunement to the unattuned. This can be very disorienting for those that are unfamiliar with the raw orchestra of nature. These fae rings have only ever been created through the magic of the aspects themselves, being naturally occuring phenomena in the world. But, with the Orison Ritual, we find the first instances of a druid themselves creating these rings through their own powerful druidic energies. During the Orison Ritual, a massive explosion of fae energy is released directly into the land around a druid’s body. Many things are birthed from this influx of energy, including the powerful Guardian Fae Rings. These large spirals of flowers cover the entire area that the blast touched, hallowing the ground that they lay upon. Over this entire area, the effect of a normal fae ring is given, nature filling the ears of those who stand within the living spire. These rings act as normal fae rings, with a few exceptions. Normally, a Fae ring allows only lesser beasts of the Eternal forest to pass through it on a full moon. However, given the druid’s final sacrifice, it allows Guardian Spirits to pass through the realm of the fae into that of the living. Guardian Fae Rings have the unique ability to be created by the living as well as the dead. However, this process is extremely dangerous, and must be preserved for times of great need. By transcending to the eternal forest, a group of three druids can seek out any such guardian spirit and re-tether their soul to the earth. By doing this, the guardian spirit channels their own energies through the bodies of the three druids, transforming the fae ring into a guardian fae ring. This allows for the creation of new guardian fae rings from normal fae rings. It is important to note that Spirits are not tied to any one ring. Instead, over time, these rings begin to create an interconnected network of points that the spirit may visit. Usually these rings are placed around groves, or other places of pilgrimage for those that follow the ways of the aspects. These points serve as the anchors for spirits in the realm, creating holy sites around the world. As stated, guardians are tethered to these Guardian Fae Rings, tying them to that one particular site until they are able to move to a different ring. Guardian Spirits are only able to go so far outside of the ring before they dissipate, the bonds holding them to the world too weak and too far to hold them in any significant way. If such occurs, they find themselves drawn back to the Eternal Forests, unable to plant themselves on the world. They must stay there for a time as their spirit regenerates and recollects in order to return to the world of the living. Guides and Redlines Powerful druids can perform the ritual successfully and be taught it. In order to be able to become a Guardian Spirit on the mortal plane, you must conduct the Orison Ritual. The Druid must first pray, opening a connection with the aspects themselves. Basically grabbing the aspects attention. After such, a druid must expel all of their fae energies in a sometimes violent blast, depending on the age of the druid and their power. This can potentially hurt those around them if the druid is very old and very powerful. The blast caused by the druid causes a surge of life in every direction, causing plants and life to spring up where possible. It can grow trees in an instant, moss to grow on rocks in runic shapes. These runic shapes reflect parts of the druid. Only the Guardian Spirit that created them knows their meaning. The blast also creates a Guardian Fae Ring, a variation of a normal fae ring, a large spiral of flowers, leading to a circle in the middle. This is the exact spot where the druid died. A Guardian Fae ring is what allows a Guardian Spirit to travel between the realm of fae and the mortal plane. Guardian Spirits are tethered to these rings, unable to walk very far away from them without being called back to the Eternal Forest. This radius usually encompasses the size of a grove, or small settlement. Guardian Spirits may only make the journey through Guardian Fae Rings during a full moon (Once every elven day). However, it should be clarified that they may remain the realm of the living after the full moon has passed. In order to perform the ritual, a currently existing Guardian Spirit must teach you it, or have someone who already knows the ritual pass the knowledge to you. This follows suit for druids to create guardian fae rings. In order to create another Guardian Fae Ring, you require a living druid that knows the ritual. Being different from normal fae rings, it is possible to have both a Guardian fae ring and a normal fae ring at the same time. To transform a fae ring into a guardian fae ring, you require three druids who know the transcendence feat. By doing this, it allows the druids to find the spirit in the fae realm and allow them to push their energy through their own bodies into the ring. This creation acts in the same way as the normal creation would, with all of the effects. Must be a druid, and currently be Tier five in both Communion and Control at the time of death. Druids cannot be pulled back from the Eternal Forest after an Elven Month, as the Eternal Forest’s call is far too strong to ignore. Such is the nature of the Fae Realm. In order to be brought back from the Eternal Forest, you must have PK’ed entirely first. It is only allowed for fully PKed druids. A Druid must be able to pray before they die, and build up the energy to release it all. Any sort of instantaneous death would prevent them from doing such, and keep them from tethering their soul. This ritual can only be done while on the brink of death. Druids who commit suicide cannot do the ritual. Any druid blocked by Strength of the Abyss or other Fi magic would not be able to complete this ritual. The blast from the ritual is not enough to kill in any case. Only potentially knock back people. If the druid’s focus is thrown off during the ritual, it ends the ritual and they are unable to continue, missing their window. In order for druids to create a guardian fae ring, they need to gather more than 3 druids to pool their energy together to create this explosion. Without more than three, the combined strain would kill the druids involved. Even with more than two, the process is extremely taxing on the body. The Orison ritual requires the unaltered soul of a druid to be in their body in order to perform this ritual. Druids with altered souls, or those who have placed their souls in other vessels cannot perform the final ritual to become Guardian Spirits. This does not apply to the creation of Guardian Fae Rings. As the natural energies release, the spirit of the animal would release as well. It remains with the guardian as part of it or depart to the aspects realm. This allows shapeshifters to complete the ritual. Guardian Spirits cannot walk outside a certain distance from their Guardian rings. In doing so, they would be demanifested, and sent back to the eternal forest until they can return. (300 blocks) Iconoclast magic would demanifest a Guardian Spirit The Spirits A Guardian Spirit watches over the forest with a careful eye, taking after their original elven form. “Go, my faithful dedicant, into the mountain! There you will find a spiral of flowers… sit in it. Call out to her, to that devout spirit. She will guide you on this task. Now go!” With their spirit tethered to both the eternal forest and the mortal plane, the Druid would wake in the Forest, awaiting that next full moon, for that bridge to open between the realms. When the full moon flies, they may find themselves on a trek across a great birch bridge that stretches far into the cosmos, into the mortal realms, allowing them to awaken inside of the center of the Guardian Fae Ring in a brilliant display of light, standing in the grove created by their own death. This is the journey that all Guardian Spirits will take, should they partake in the Ritual of Orison. Upon their awakening, spirits are met by themselves, by their new spiritual figures. At first, they appear as themselves, given a transparent glow that reflects their own druidic energies. As time goes on, these spirits realize that they can shift their appearance to some degree, to make them look as they did at any point in their life. Through this, they can remove scars, and blemishes upon that figure, or tattoos that covered their skin, appearing truly as a servant of nature, without other worldly attachment. In their journey to the spirit realm, spirits find they may change into a host of different animals, accompanied by that similar transparency and glow that other Guardian Spirits give off. However, with an additional affect. Due to the spirit’s time in the fae realm, the essence of the eternal forest has rubbed off onto their animals’ giving them fae-like attributes. The spirit is just that. A spirit. They cannot touch or interact with the world. They will never again feel the embrace of a loved one, nor the wind on their cheek. They are dead, lost to the world. Incorporeal beings that merely exist as a passer of knowledge, a wielder of the torch of druidic power. Even at their strongest, standing within the fae ring, they are unable to lay a finger on the world of the living. It is the primary mission of all Guardian Spirits to pass down their own knowledge of the balance, and to guide the druids of the world towards a heightened understanding of what their duty is, and how they might attain it. They serve as powerful guides to all that follow the path of the aspects. To dedicants, they serve to inform and teach. To Druii, they seek to offer their different perspective on the world and how it may function. And above all, to Archdruii, they serve as powerful advisors in the face of great adversity. But they are just that. Guides, advisers, wise-men. Vessels of knowledge that lasted longer than they should have. They are unable to use the powers that they had throughout their lives as druii, save but shapeshifting, but they still retain their ancient knowledge of the arts. In times of great need, these spirits are able to pass on their understanding and power into the druii of the world in several ways, detailed a bit later. In addition to this, Spirits are also given a few smaller tools that they would use in pursuit of guiding dedicants, druids, and archdruii alike, without impacting the world on a physical level. Spirits are far more corruptible than our mortal forms. Aurum weapons that affect the spectral beings of the world would affect them just as a normal blade would, cutting away at their energies. Blight that would normally sap away at the strength of a descendent would eat doubly so at the Spirit Guardian, gnawing away at the very being of the guardian, until it is so weak that they are corrupted wholly. And perhaps the most dangerous among them all, are those that carry with them the strength of the abyss. To be touched by this ability is to be scattered, cut off from the world. Upon touch, the spirit is sent back to the realm of the fae, to recuperate once more. Such is a very effective weapon against them, capable of sending them away in an instant. Blight may even corrupt a Guardian Spirit more than it normally would. The spirit is more fragile than the body, and to those who are exposed to it for a long time, it may have devastating effects to their soul. Through time, they’re physically corrupted, and the soul is damaged, leaving their spirit broken. The blight addles their mind, casting a shadow of the ancient spirit. They become destructive, a draoi spirit. Their gifts turn dark, allowing them to grant darkened boons on their followers, on those dark druids that would destroy. As they continue down this path, these spirits are corrupted physically. They may be split open, or tainted visually, their souls torn asunder by the use of these dark boons. These now Draoi spirits haunt the realm, causing chaos and sowing discord throughout the land by empowering the dark druids, until they’re put out of their own misery, and banished from the land by the very druids they were sworn to guide. Banishment is a difficult process, though not impossible. It is a technique used by druids to sever a Guardian Spirit’s connection to the mortal realm, and works similarly to the unattunement ritual. A group of three druids must corner the Spirit, connecting with them via powersharing. After this, there are multiple ways that the druids could deal with the spirit. Potentially, the spirit has been feeding dedicants or other druii misinformation, misguiding them from the path of the Druidism. Or perhaps these spirits have views too extreme for the order, and must be cast out. Both of these are valid reasons to banish a druid from the mortal plane. Or perhaps a spirit has become fully corrupted by blight, making them violent Draoi Spirits. This is another reason to banish a spirit. Or even by request of the Spirit themselves that believe their mission to be done. Banishment is the act of releasing the spirit’s tether to the realm of the mortals, recalling them back to the eternal forest to live out their days there. This action can be reversed, in the same way that a guardian fae ring can be remade. The ritual is one in the same. Guides and Redlines Newly made Guardian Spirits always begin in the realm of the fae. In order to start roleplaying, players must wait until a full moon, or one out of character day in roleplay to re-enter the mortal plane. In order to enter and leave the mortal plane, a Guardian Spirit must do so through a Guardian Fae Ring during a full moon. All Guardian Spirits take on a glow reflecting the color of their fae energy in life. Guardian Spirits take the shape of themselves when they return, appearing unaltered by injury or bodily art. In addition, Spirits may change how they look in order to reflect themselves at different points in their life, to reflect and show how they themselves have changed. Removing injury or changing which point in life they appear as is entirely optional. Due to their time in the fae realm, spirits are capable of morphing into a different host of animals, with the addition effect of fae attributes. The addition of Fae attributes applies also to normal Spirits Guardian Spirits are completely incorporeal, and cannot touch or physically interact with anything in the mortal realm. They are ghosts, in that sense. They will never be able to feel the world of the living, at least physically. Guardian Spirits retain none of their ability to perform druidic arts that they had learned in life, save shapeshifting. However, they retain all of their knowledge in the arts, and still fondly recall the feelings of using their abilities. They instead gain a few other abilities to assist in their primary mission of guiding the descendents, and granting boons of the aspects. Guardian Spirits with a TA in any given druidic magic still keep the TA, but cannot perform the magic themselves, truly being a guide more than anything. Guardian Spirits can no longer perform control, communion, thulean druidism, blight healing, or herblore. Guardian Spirits can no longer teach unattunement, attunement, or shapeshifting. Golden Weaponry affects the spirits as a normal weapon would to a person. Blight corrupts the very soul of the spirit, being far more vulnerable to the effects of the blight. This causes Guardian Spirits to become Spirit Draoi, lashing out violently with all they have to corrupt and damage the world. This, however, can only be done through their existing gifts and receive none for becoming a spirit draoi. Upon their next ‘death’, spirit draoi are permanently killed. Players accept this on making a Spirit Guardian. Upon touch, Strength of the Abyss immediately sends guardian spirits back to the realm of the fae in order to remanifest. This action is extremely disorienting for the spirit, and takes a long time for them to return and gather themselves together. This takes one year in game (One week out of character) Guardian Spirits are able to be banished by the druids of the realm through the banishment ritual. However, they can be brought back through the creation of a guardian fae ring for them. The Mission Guardian Spirits under the full moon, 1650 “I am one with the Balance.” In life, it is the path of druids to protect the balance, to safeguard nature. To protect the wilds and those that live amongst them. When these druii die, they ascend to the eternal forest, to serve as soulbound spirits, wardens and wisemen of the fae realm. These spirits are revered as wise demi-gods next to the aspects, spirits holding immense knowledge. Creatures of the Fae come from near and far in the realm, from the Twilight Bound to the Dayward way. For those Soulbound Servants that return to the realm of the living, their duties must continue. Guardian Spirits are to act as guides, figures of wisdom amongst the druids of Atlas, and all other places to come. They walk amongst the order as highly revered teachers, and advisors, opening their wisdom to all that would seek it. This is their eternal duty, to serve and guide, no more, no less. Very rarely do these druids directly intervene in anything, choosing instead to give their assistance when asked, or to offer a boon from the aspects for dire situations. In some cases, they can even take up teaching positions within the order. Blessings of the Aspects A druid completes a task with the oversight of the Guardian Spirit, 1650 Guardian Spirits tend not to intervene in worldly affairs. Without the ability to hold a sword, or travel far beyond their guardian fae rings, they take up a more guiding role. Their time spent in the realm of the fae shows now though, and Guardian Spirits find that they have a few lesser abilities that they didn’t have before. These can be very straining for the spirit to perform, and only one may be used per day, that they might serve the spirit in guiding others. Greensight Guardian Spirits have the ability to reach out to the attuned minds, able to incur visions of the past, things that the Guardian themselves have seen, or even things that the subject has seen. This ability only works on a willing subject, when they allow the guardian into their thoughts. These visions can be as vivid or as vague as the guardian wills it. This can be used to suggest certain courses of action, or to show lessons that they themselves have learned. This only affects attuned druids and those affected by fae rings. Oversight Guardian Spirits bind themselves to a druid for a time, seeing what they see, hearing what they hear, allowing them into their thoughts. This must be entirely willed on the part of the druid and the guardian. During this time, the druid is marked with a green fae symbol upon the forehead, showing that they are a vessel of the spirit. This lasts until the subject no longer wills it, or the spirit leaves the body of another. Guardian Powersharing As was their ability in life, Guardian Spirits retain their ability to control and manipulate the natural energies of the fae, in order to pass them onto another druid. This greatly enhances the natural ability of the druid far beyond their own potential, exactly like how a normal powersharing is done from a living druid.. However, due to the fact that the Guardian Spirits consist of their own Fae Energies, powersharing dissipates them over time. After they've finished, they return to the Eternal Forest to replenish their being. Guides and Redlines All Blessings of the Aspects can only be performed once per day, while their energies replenish. Any attempt to perform a second blessing in one day will result in a failed attempt. During Greensight, both the druid and the guardian enter a catatonic state while experiencing the visions, they are completely vulnerable to attack until the guardian ends the vision or it ends. Greensight uses previously existing memories from either the Druid or the Guardian Spirit. This applies even to memories that have been lost. Can be used to revive memories. Guardians can manipulate memories to look as vague or vivid as they wish. They may also alter the vision to a limited degree, in order to show alternative choices, or make symbolistic changes. Druids and guardians can experience pain from the vision that may actually linger after the vision ends. This is all psychosomatic. The Ritual of Orison is taught through Greensight memory of the Guardian’s own death. Oversight is the ability for a spirit to bind themselves to a druid’s body, connecting the two. The Guardian Spirit and the druid’s senses are linked, and they can experience the sights, sounds, smells, feelings, tastes, and thoughts. This works vice versa as well, the druid being able to experience those of the guardian as well. In addition, this links their emotions, to a degree. Should the druid grow angry, the guardian may feel a surge of anger or so on. Druids experiencing oversight are marked with a fae symbol over the forehead, glowing with the color of the spirit’s energy. Guardian Powersharing works exactly like normal Powersharing, but after they are done, they dissipate to the Eternal Forest for an Elven Day. Feel free also to roleplay discomfort when powersharing, as you're sacrificing your own lifeforce to fuel another druid. A druid does these at will, they cannot be forced into it, nor can they force them upon others. A Guardian Spirit can only use one blessing per day Greensight must be completely willed on both ends. A Guardian cannot be let into the mind of another without it being opened for them. Guardians cannot cause physical injury through Greensight Visions. This does not apply to psychosomatic illness. As soon as a Druid does not want to be shown a vision, it ends. Closing off the path renders the ability ended. Guardian Spirits cannot be demanifested during oversight. Guardian Spirits cannot use other druidic blessings during oversight Guardian Spirits cannot interact with others outside of the druid they are bound to. Once clerical magic is used on the body of one being affected by oversight, the spirit is pushed out, ending the ability. If a druid does not want to be bound to a guardian spirit any longer, they are disconnected. This applies vice-versa. Guardian Powersharing shares the same redlines as regular powersharing. ((As all things, feedback is appreciated so that I can really make this lore enjoyable for everyone! Shoutout to Leowarrior14, Delmodan, ThatGuy_777, and Gladuous for giving me ideas and letting me talk to them about this!))
