  1. Pages are torn and scattered together, full of unintelligible scribbles and unfinished phrases Notes on Project Date: Unknown I FINALLY DID IT! Well, sort of... At first I tried following Silth's advice, and went looking for an evil ghost to slay, but unfortulatley i'm not a strong enough lutamancer and not experienced enough to try. I travelled looking for an alchemist that could have sold one, but with no avail... So I went fishing. Sorry readers, I'm so exausted I forgot to explain myself: for my project I need a way to see through objects, and my current method does not produce a clear enough image of the separated layers, so i asked for some guidance and Silth suggested to use ectoplams, i guess because ghost are pretty much see-through, so by using it I would have also made my target object see-through. My few years of fishing now brought me to discover various different fishes, crustaceans and other sea critters that share a similar see-through ability, that can make them camouflage in plain sight in the deep sea. I considered using land animals, but frogs (glass frogs to be exact) are only amphibian and cannot stay underwater for very long, and obviously butterflies (the glasswing butterfly type) cannot survive in water. So, as I was writing, I went fishing, and tried to use a lot of different species, including but not limited to jellifishes (those stingy sea moppers..), glass squids, baby octopuses, cleaner shrimps. But in the end, there was one creature to do the job: the barreleye fish, the only one that surprisingly had a reaction to the separation of layers. it turn out his eyes are the key, as they are "inside" their head, like a closed transparent helmet, and when the immobilised fish eyes met the ray of light, it scattered through the prism, and projected sort-of-clear images. they are a little wobbly as if they are underwater and seen from outside the surface, but otherwise the borders are clean and the image is barely colored (notes on accentuating the color? may be needed for medical application). I spent months fishing without stopping and testing the fish, I need to sleep, and a shower, and...[the notes there stop, as the pen trail goes wild on the pages, along with some signs of drooling and sleeping on the page.]
  2. these are extract from notes of Fagh's current project. The pages look soaked and a bit transparent Notes on Project 6th of The Amber Cold SA 163 My experiments on my project are reaching a dead end. Silth recommended me to start working alone on this project, and it's been very stimulating so far: I want to create a tool, or something, that lets others see inside of a living body without cutting it up. The basic theory I have for now about it is this: if I need to see through something, I might have to imagine it like made of glass, or transparent like a ghost. The problem is, how to manifest that transparency? I did some more simple experiment with inanimate objects: If I have, for example, an rough and sanded piece of glass (that cannot be seen through), and I put it in water, then it becomes see-through, but normal water for normal living beings won't work. I investigated the usage of water to separate and dissect, and found for example that a ray of bright light (i mixed blue red and green fire to achieve a white light) that passes through a prism full of water becomes divided into all the spectrum of colors seeable by uruks and descendants. The next step after this discovery, is changing that beam of life with a normal inanimate object, and that prism with something more complex to separate each layer of the object. Now, the problem is that the objest is indeed separated, but just by its colors, and not its substance and structural composition. I'd also need in the future to make it more portable and compact, compared to the entire dark room i need to use for now. I need to share these results with my teacher and ask him for some guidance. A small sketch of the usual objects used in the purified water jar as a footnote, there's written in a small font: Note: Some herbs to use to hallucinate? Viable?
  3. Temporary Remedy (T2, common) Alchemist’s notes: A concoction that may be drunk or injected, intended to slow down the body’s reaction time in order to pause the spread of disease, poison, or allergic reaction. Designed with the soul purpose of stabilizing a patient until they are able to be transported to a hospital or healer, it is of little help during a fight. Recipe: Base: Aqua Vitae Water: Freezing x3 Slowness x2 Impediment x1 Curtailment x1 Effects: When ingested, the mixture causes a chilling sensation to ripple through the body. Within two emotes if drunk (1 emote if injected), the potion would fully take effect, causing a multitude of things. Blood flow would be slowed, in order to prevent poisons from spreading quickly. Upon entering the blood, the symbols would seek and latch onto toxins and pathogens, temporarily halting the effects. This stalling lasts for 10 emotes following activation, or two narrative hours. However, this ‘cure’ is not without drawbacks. After the initial ‘cooling’ sensation, one would begin to feel tired and sluggish. Dodging or parrying attacks would become much more difficult, as well as halving their usual movement. Attempted attacks would also be rendered near useless. Cannot be used more than once an IRL day. (See redlines for more details) Accompanying this fatigue would be a sensation of pins and needles all across the body, further making it improbable to take part in combat. Numbing Mist (T2, common) Alchemist notes: Oho, my toes are tingly. . . Hehehehe. . . Recipe: Base: Diddyfunkle Oil Reduction x2 Silence x1 Chaos x1 Add the signs of reduction and silence to the diddyfunkle oil, mixing steadily until brought to a boil. Add chaos, then capture the occurring steam within a bottle. Effects: Upon inhaling the steam, the person in question would start to feel light all over- as if they were floating. They would find themselves a bit giddy, possibly finding the most mundane things hilarious. Alongside this giddiness would be a numb sensation all across the body and mind, causing any pain inflicted by medical means dulled, ticklish at most. Deeper surgeries or more extreme incisions/amputations may cause true pain, but in the drug-addled state this is only found to be mildly annoying, funny even. This effect is easy to fight off, the patient needing to be willing and somewhat calm for it to work. Due to the mental effects of the drug, it is not uncommon for folks to use it in recreational means. However, frequent use will result in addiction. Addicts are prone to having injuries about themselves without knowing, as they are usually numb. They are also prone to being unable to take things seriously. Laughing Gas (T2, rare) Alchemist’s note: A concentrated version of the numbing mist, it serves as a hilarious crowd control option. Recipe: Base: Diddyfunkle Oil Reduction x4 Silence x2 Aether: Chaos x2 By doubling the amount of each symbol used, and utilizing Aether: Chaos instead of mundane chaos, one may create a combative version of this brew. This concentrated concoction may only be utilized in its gaseous form. Upon its container being opened or broken, the mist within it would expand in a near invisible cloud of up to a 3 by 3 cube. All those caught within its range would be subject to all mental effects and some physical effects, unless utilizing adequate preventative measures. The mental effects would remain more or less the same. Though feelings of anger and hostility are eased, they are not erased. They may only be eased within logical reason. (Ex, if someone under the influence of such is attacked, they are more than able to get angry and retaliate. The same applies to those currently being attacked. At most, they may attack back as if it was all a joke. This is up to the player affected.) The physical effects are somewhat decreased, as those affected are not hindered in their ability to move around or fight. If anything, it proved to be a boon for those under its effects, as they would not be able to feel pain. That being said, it is a double edged sword. For example, potentially having little to no fear in a fight, but also the potential to not even notice severe bleeding. All effects last for three emotes upon breathing in the gas. On the fourth emote, those under its influence would be able to spend an emote to shake off the effects. (Ie, if the character seeks to fight it, they may successfully do so on the fourth emote.) Spectral Skin (T3, Common) Alchemist’s notes: A concoction created to make it easier for doctors to assess internal damage! Recipe: Base: Bone marrow (any animal) Light x1 Separation x2 Clarity x3 Bring bone marrow/lard to a boil, and add light symbols. Allow the mixture to cool completely, before adding in the separation and clarity symbols. Gently stir until fully dissolved. At this point, the mixture should have taken a milky-white color. Optionally, this tincture may be mixed with Beeswax to create a topical cream. Effects: If utilizing bone marrow, the resulting brew would be akin to a serum, allowing it to be injected on the sight of the break. Within the next two emotes, the surrounding skin and flesh would take on a translucent state, all flesh, veins, tendons etc becoming see through. This by no means is invisibility. If utilizing lard as the base, the resulting concoction would have the texture of a lotion or paste. This version of the brew would allow for an easier application, though not as potent. Topical skin would become translucent, but the flesh and muscle beneath would not. That being said, it served as a useful tool when examining for damaged tendons, muscles, or simply to demonstrate to medical students the anatomy of flesh without having to resort to dissection. It would also allow for internal damage or bleeding to be seen. (Ex, applying to the torso or stomach could allow for seeing if there is any damage present to internal organs.) Special thanks to @Moonish_Imp, @Lockages, and @esotericas for their advice! And thank you to @Greehnfor the joke that ended up inspiring this entire thing. Changelog: Specified that Spectral skin may only be used on flesh, and may not be used to expose/reveal genetalia. Laughing gas range reduced to 3x3 square. Specified learning and ST signage

  5. Basic Treatment For Dummies Book II: Fractures Fractures, a painful yet common injury among all descendants. These can happen due to too much force being put on your bones, or bending them in an unnatural and painful way. There are many different types of fractures, I will name just three of them; There are non-displaced transverse and displaced transverse fractures, a compound fracture and a comminuted fracture. So how do you treat them? You don’t, the doctor does. But you can splint it and make sure it is immobilized. Section I: Transverse A transverse fracture is when the break is at a right angle to the long plane of a bone. This most often happens due to strong force right upon the long axis of a bone. So how do you treat this? If the fracture is non-displaced it will heal on its own with just a splint. You should still go to a doctor so they can check and make sure it is indeed a non-displaced fracture. If it is displaced, the bone will need to carefully be guided back to its place. If you are not a licenced medic I would not try to put it back in place on your own. You’ll make that fracture worse and give more work to the doctors that are there to fix you. Instead just make a splint and find a doctor. So how do you make a splint? Step 1: Find something rigid such as sticks or a board. Step 2: Align the sticks or the board along the broken body part. Step 3: Use bandages or cloth to tie them to the broken body part in a secure way so that the arm or leg cannot be moved. Step 4: To make it more secure if it is an arm, tie the body part up to the chest with bandages or cloth so there is less chance of movement. Step 5: Get yourself to a clinic or a hospital. Section II: Compound A compound fracture is when the bone is sticking out of the skin and causes an open wound with bleeding. This is the most dangerous of the fractures and hardest to treat, usually ending up in amputation due to the severity of the injuries this often causes. However, the body part can be saved if the wound itself is not too severe. So what do you do if you have gotten yourself a compound wound? Follow these simple steps; Step 1: Stop the bleeding by putting force on the wound with a clean cloth or bandage. Step 2: If you have tippen’s root herb on you, grind it up into a salve and put on the wound. Step 3: Try and immobilize the body part using a splint. Step 4: DO NOT TRY AND PUSH THE BONE BACK INSIDE, JUST DON’T TOUCH IT! Step 5: Get your arse to the doctor and hope for the best as they fix you. Step 6: You are allowed to cry. Section III: Comminuted A comminuted fracture is often due to the crushing of the bone, causing the bone to splinter. This has become a very common injury on soldiers in Hanseti-Ruska due to the troll attacks. Like the compound fracture it will require surgery, but is much easier to treat than the compound one and does not need amputation unless the bone has splintered up to the point of no salvation. So what do you do? Make a splint and drag your arse to a hospital or a clinic. Written by: HRH Prinzenas Katerina Ceciliya Barbanov, Assistant to the Surgeon General of Haense
  6. Overview: Acupuncture is an ancient medical practice originating from the Far East, passed down by the Li-Ren’s great ancestors. It requires solid knowledge of the flow of ‘qi’ or energy in the body, usually alongside the nervous system in channels called ‘meridians’. By inserting sterilised silver needles into particular channels, one can redirect nervous sensations or hormonal imbalances within the body. It is important to note however, that acupuncture itself cannot completely treat any ailments, it is best to accompany it with dietary or lifestyle changes. Tools: To administer acupuncture, one must have a set of thin, silver needles. Similar to sewing needles, the point must be strong but exceedingly thin, with a sturdy but light wooden end to enable easy insertion into the body such that the patient will not feel much sensation. The needles must be silver as silver is a metal that can draw out impurities or poisons within the body. One must cleanse and sterilise the needles regularly, whether through flame or through strong alcohol. Sanitation is crucial to practice as substances from previous treatments may still linger on the needles if not tended to properly. Channels: There are 14 main channels in the body that dominate energy flow and the nervous system. Each channel has a major point which can be triggered to treat certain ailments, as seen in the following below: Large Intestine Channel: Hegu This point is located on the back side of the hand between the thumb and first finger. The primary use of this point is to relieve pain and treat inflammatory and feverish diseases. Pressing upon it is particularly known to help with headaches. Lung Channel: Lieque This point is located above the wrist on the inside of the arm. It is used to treat several disorders of the upper body, including respiratory disorders, sore throat, facial paralysis and wrist conditions. Stomach Channel: Zusanli This point is located on the front of the leg, just below the knee. It is helpful for digestive disorders. Research shows that using this point results in positive effects in treating anemia, immune deficiency, indigestion and diarrhea. Spleen Channel: Sanyinjiao This point is located on the inner side of the leg just above the ankle. It is well known for treating hormonal disorders (such as irregular menstruation) and other disorders dealing with reproduction and general genital health. Gallbladder Channel: Fengchi This point is located at the base of the skull where it joins the neck in back. It is used in the treatment of acute disorders, such as the common cold, influenza, headache, neck pain and fever. In addition, it lowers blood pressure. Liver Channel: Taichong The point is located on the top of the foot, between the first and second toes. It is used to balance emotional energy, helps regulate menstruation, to reduce high blood pressure and cholesterol. Pericardium Channel: Neiguan This point is located on the inner arm, just above the wrist. This channel is useful for cardiac disorders, such as heart palpitation and chest pains. It is also useful for nausea, vomiting, spasms and convulsions. Heart Channel: Shenmen This point is located on the outer side of the wrist. It is used in the treatment of a variety of mental disorders, such as insomnia, agitation and fatigue. Urinary Bladder Channel: Weizhong This point is located at the back of the knee. It is utilized in the treatment of back pain, hip impairment, muscular cramps, leg pain, and abdominal pain. Kidney Channel: Taixi This point is located just behind the inner ankle. It is used for disorders in several areas of the body, including sore throat, deafness, dizziness, lower back pain and can help or hinder bedroom activities. Triple Burner Channel: Waiguan This point on the channel is located on the outer side of the arm, above the wrist. It is mainly used in treatment of disorders along the pathway of this meridian, that is, of the fingers, hand, arms, neck, ears, cheek, and top of the head. Small Intestine Channel: Houxi This point is located on the side of the hand, below the little finger. It is used for treating general stiffness, seizures, night sweats and fevers. Governing Vessel: Baihui This point is located at the top of the head. It is traditionally applied in the treatment for headache, vertigo, ringing in the ears and nasal obstruction. It is best used in accompaniment with the Kidney Channel. Theory / Capabilities: Before administering acupuncture, always clean your patient’s body by wiping them down, whether through rice alcohol or water. When inserting the needles into the patient’s points, one must take extra care not to insert directly upon the nerve endings as doing so would block energy and nerve transmission into said areas. Instead, when promoting sensation or hormonal surge in the general area, insert the needle a little towards the outside of the body from the point, as this will stimulate the flow of ‘energy’ towards the desired treatment area. Treatment Examples: [!] The following only intend to act as examples of treatment. Not all the herbs listed in the prescriptions exist rply but it’s just an example for people to get a better understanding of how treatment would work. Treatment of a Common Cold: - Get the patient to suck on a slice of raw ginger whilst you administer acupuncture. - Warm up the room so that the patient will break out into sweat. - Cleanse the body. - Insert needles into the Large Intestinal, Lung Channel, Gallbladder, and the Governing Channel. - Leave the needles in for around 15 minutes before taking them out. - Prescribe the patient ginger, ginseng, honey and kumquat tea and encourage drinking the concoction every day until their cold gets better. Make sure that the patient is also adequately warm throughout this process. Treatment of Headache: - Cleanse the patient’s body. - Begin inserting the acupuncture needles into the Governing, Large Intestine, Gallbladder, and Heart Channels. - Leave needles in until the patient begins to feel less tension/stiffness in the area before taking them out. - Prescribe patient with a mild, diluted Frostvine salve along the area of pain for external application and some rejuvenating Mandragora tea for consumption. Treatment of Respiratory Diseases: - Air out the room first and free it from any lingering dust. - Cleanse the patient’s body. - Begin inserting acupuncture needles into the Lung, Pericardium, Heart, and Governing Channels. - Leave needles in for 15 minutes before taking them out. - As this is a long-lasting lifestyle disease, encourage the patient to come for routine acupuncture treatments. The patient should also maintain a clean house free of dust at all times and keep a light diet and avoid oily, fatty foods as well as excessive indulging in red meats. Treatment of Menstrual pains and irregularities: - Warm up the room so that the patient is comfortably warm, but not sweating. - Cleanse the patient’s body. - Begin inserting acupuncture needles into the Urinary, Kidney, Liver, and Spleen Channels. - Leave the acupuncture needles in before beginning to massage the patient’s pained areas with a heated ceramic ball, careful not to burn the patient. - Finish the massage and take out the needles after an hour’s time. - Prescribe the patient with a herbal concoction of Mandragora, Desert Berry, ginseng, ginger, and pomegranate. Inform the patient to keep their body warm at all times during the menstrual period, and eat red meat, in particular pig’s liver cooked in rice wine and ginger. - Encourage the patient to attend regular acupuncture and massage sessions until the irregularities ease. [!] Well performed treatment over a prolonged period can help women recover from miscarriages within reasonable bounds. Treatment of Indigestion/ Food poisoning / ingested poisons: - Cleanse the patient’s body and ready a nearby pot for the patient to vomit into. - Feed the patient ground and boiled Goblin’s Ivy with Alabaster Leaf, then induce them into vomiting. - Once the patient has vomited out all the contents, insert needles into the Pericardium, Stomach and Kidney channels. - Wait until any poisonous substances have been drawn out by the silver. If no poison was ingested, leave the needles in until the patient feels the nausea subside. - Prescribe the patient with Mandragora tea afterwards and encourage them to adhere to a lighter diet, refraining from oily, fatty foods as well as excessive wine. REDLINES: Acupuncture itself CANNOT heal any ailments, it has to be used in tandem with other treatments, such as herbal remedies or lifestyle changes. Acupuncture is NOT a miracle cure and often needs repeated treatments in order for successful treatment. Acupuncture can only enhance or take away nervous sensation or balance out hormones slightly in targetted areas each session. You can damage someone’s nerves on purpose with acupuncture but it has to be done over time and the damage has to be gauged by a roll to prevent powergaming (esp. in the case of nervous breakdown). PURPOSE (OOCLY): I’m surprised acupuncture hasn’t been done in an official capacity but I just thought adding acupuncture to LotC would make medical rp much more interesting. So far medical rp is a one-off rp experience but with acupuncture you can have repeat or regular patients, try combining western and eastern medical practices back from medieval ages, and facilitate a more engaging rp experience – because who doesn’t like getting needles stuck into them? Overall I think it’s too interesting a concept to pass up on and I’m sure many other medical rpers would enjoy adding acupuncture to their repertoire.

  8. *Within the Human Kingdoms and near the Roads by the Cloud Temple there can be found a few small posters that contain the following information.* The Brotherhood of the Red Cross The Short History of Our Order The Order began in Anthos when a young Lord by the name of William Darkstar was knighted under the Holy Order of the Red Dragon. He then proceeded to help defend the capital against insurgents and rebels. However he watched as the Knights proceeded to cause injury and death, yet would do nothing to help those who were left dying in the streets. While he would not challenge the Imperial Crown nor his own Order he still felt his duty as a Knight to help those who sorely needed his aide. During this time there were a few doctors spread about the land, many of whom were alchemists and persecuted by the Imperial Crown for 'heretical practices'. He met with them privately giving them protection for their time and knowledge. In the years to come he had obtained a balance of swordplay, alchemic, medical, and tactical knowledge. He became a battlefield medic, and just in time. During this time creatures began to invade the Empire, and sickness plagued much of the land. He and others would bring sick and wounded into the Church in order to help them through their sickness and injury and perhaps even fix and cure a few of them. He then began to take on a few apprentices. While he did this he took the Red Cross for his personal sigil and traveled around as a Medic Knight. However he was but one man, and had few followers. He became very poor, and lost much of his prestige as a lord and knight. Deciding that he needed time alone he left to lands unknown, but gave his apprentice, by name of Renart, the challenge to bring together what he could not. Brother Renart traveled the land of Anthos hoping to find other like minded men, in order to create a Brotherhood of Man that would spend time to help better their fellow man through health and service. The Three Branches There are three branches within the order led by the Magni Magistri or the Grand Master. The paths of the Vestis, Ensis, and the Tincturam. Currently there are few members, and therefore the Three Branches are suspended, currently all membership is watched over by the Magni and Brother Renart until the Order is fully alive. They are searching for men with the skills in the art of Medicine, Protection, and Alchemy in order to create a true brotherhood to serve Man. Current Socio-Politico-Religious Information While this is a Brotherhood of Holy Monks and Knights, this brotherhood takes men from all walks of life as long as they swear to uphold the ideals of serving and protecting their fellow men. They serve God and in that serve this truth, but they treat all religions with respect. They deny no race nor creed, but they mainly serve within the Human Kingdoms. For Those Who Wish to Join Those wishing to join may send a letter to the Tavern in Abresi near the fountains to contact Brother Renart and the Magni Magister. Please include your race, year of birth and current age, talents within the areas of Combat, Alchemy, Medicine, and Healing Magics, any other talents such as cooking, farming, or blacksmithing, where you live if you have a home, and any other allegiances or titles you may have. Most of this is for the future of the growth of the Brotherhood and some of it is for documentation purposes. It is my sincerest hope that any unaffiliated doctors, medics, alchemists, and even Knights please do consider the brotherhood for the sake of your fellow man. Remember Knowledge is power and power should be used to help your fellow man, not to harm it. -Brother Renart
