Everyday, the nun beseeches salvation for humankind. I hear the scoff of the hardened soldier; I have borne my scars of war, but I tell you, no battlefield will test yine strength like that of the monastic life. Come to us, brave warrior, so that you might walk the path of our Lord and achieve union with Almighty GOD. Come too, ye politician! Who have allowed temporal decay to consume you; it is not too late for salvation. Come, ye priests! Who serve well, yet wish to serve GOD twice-fold. The Hieromonk in you is destined to be born. DUTIES The Abbey, and it's Monasti, serve to fulfil a number of functions beyond the individual, spiritual, obligations of the monastics. These functions primarily serve to aid the wider faithful, as well as the Holy Mother Church, and of course the State. Some such duties, not exclusively, are: (i) Communal prayer on behalf of individuals, families, or nations of the faithful: the monastics will muster together to perform rituals of prayer, beseeching the intercession of Almighty GOD, His Prophets or Saints, on behalf of the faithful. The Monasti can prayer for the safe passing of a loved one, the success of an Emperor in matters of righteous war, the safety of a Canonist peoples undergoing foreign persecution, or another matter deemed appropriate for such a holy ceremony. This act of faith is not exclusive to Emperors and Dukes however, as the Monasti will perform such rites even for the lowliest of peasants. (ii) Acts of charity, inkeeping with Blessed Seraphim's institution of monastic-giving: the monastics will provide the poor and wretched with a place to stay, bread and food, or teachings in the way of Canonism. These acts are not the sole duty of Monastics, but a secondary function, and as such the regular occurrence of this charity will be limited to the discretion of individual monasti and their Abbot. (iii) Missionary work: the Monasti will travel to foreign lands in search of converts to the blessed faith of Canonism. Often risking life and limb for such ventures, the Monasti should fear not death, for they are dead to the world. (iv) Negotiating the release of Canonist hostages held by heathens and heretics: the Monasti will intercede on behalf of Canonists who have fallen prey to heathen or heretical hostage-takers, acting as the middle-men for the safe return of the faithful from barbarous hands. 4. Abbey of Veracruz The Abbey of Veracruz is a monastic establishment dedicated to the Creator and the Church of the Canon. It is led by the Abbot Humbert de Bar. The monks must take the vows of celibacy, poverty and temperance. Often monks will travel to collect donations and distribute alms alike, as well as preach along the roads. Inside the abbey they will write books, pray, chant and hold mass. It is open the general public for visiting and residing at temporarily. If one is interested contact Abbot Humbert. History of the Abbey The abbey started as an idea by several pilgrims upon arriving to Athera. The pilgrims quickly rushed to a location they referred to as the spot to construct the abbey at. They were led by Thibaut the Pious and Humbert de Bar. Construction quickly began but was slowed down when the foreign workers that were working on it, moved on to different lands across Athera. Due to slowed construction the pilgrims began abandoning the idea. Humbert de Bar, abbot of the abbey declared that they move to Adunia in an effort to revitalize the effort. This didn’t work as Adunia became abandoned. Humbert de Bar retired, until the Stafyrs from Werdenburg reconstructed the Abbey at the same site. Soon the High Pontiff gave the abbey back to Humbert, jumpstarting the effort to create the first monastery on Athera. Hierarchy Abbot - The Abbot is the leader of the abbey, serving the High Pontiff directly. He leads the monks in mass. The Abbot selects the monks from among the acolytes, giving sermons during supper and delegating the monks jobs. Prior - The Claustral Prior is the second-in-command of the abbey. He oversees the everyday living inside the monastery, responsible for the internal and daily affairs of the abbey. Monks - The monks comprise the majority of the inhabitants of the abbey. To become one, an acolyte must attend mass and be deemed ready before taking the vows. Monks are expected to follow their vows and fulfill their duty as monks. This includes travelling, collecting donations and distributing alms as well as writing books, praying and holding mass when necessary. Also they must worship the Creator and follow the Church of the Canon. Acolytes - Acolytes are new recruits interested in being monks or maybe even diocesan clergy. They are still learning how to properly live a monastic life and the values of being a member of the clergy. When the abbot deems them ready they will take the vows and become a monk. Location and Recruitment The Abbey is located very close to Werdenberg. It is fully constructed but just needs to be renovated ((and properly claimed)). At this moment there are only a couple monks, but we are looking for up to ten only at this time. Just contact Humbert if you’d like to become one. ((Feel free to pm me on the forums if you don’t notice haribo2805 to be online. I would like to interview you IG if possible so keep that in mind. ))

"Spike," "Stegg," "Jenny," "Beasty," "Star," and "Flamer." <You get brownie points if you get the 5 reference names.> History Growing up, Samuel Stelmor was not one of the more physically active children, he preferred studying over outdoor games. He always wrote reports for the elders on subjects they would teach him about. The elders loved Samuel, because he was one of the few children that cared about the knowledge they presented to them. He was always respectful to anyone older than him, and was always caring for those younger than him. He was truly the kindest heart in the town. After reaching the age where he had to move out of the home, he decided to continue his studies. He was constantly thinking about his payments due on the house he was staying in. He often thought about running out of money, which he got from a hard job of cleaning. With all the stress on his mind, he had given way, being a rebel of a citizen. After realizing his wrongdoings, he turned to meditation and relaxation, so that he wouldn't let himself become like that again. The stress soon was gone. After not too long, one of his close friends that moved had become sick. He only knew this because her family sent him a mail-bird. He ventured off so that he could be with her when she passed, but luckily, she overcame the sickness about four days later. While venturing back home, Samuel came across a great storm. He had to sit and wait for the storm to pass, which was only about a day and a half. Once he had reached his home, it was abandoned. There were some buildings that were demolished, and they looked like they were demolished on purpose, he assumed that the townsfolk had moved. He checked many mailboxes, finding no signs of where they had moved to. Sadly, he never reunited with them. Samuel, with nowhere to live, headed out through the woods, he came across a beach with giant crabs, and looked to his left, finding a large stone road. He quickly ventured to THE Stone Road, heading towards the Cloud Temple. He had been here a few times, at least he remembered it from when he was a child. He actually followed the religion of the Cloud Temple after being there for a while. He went on to spend many years there, appreciating the monks' great work. After a while, he had reached his 170th birthday. After three more years, he decided that he would apply to become a Monk of the Cloud Temple. He greatly hoped that he would accept him, for he would love to have the responsibility of helping others. He also applied for the position so that he could read more about the religion, and help spread knowledge. After all, Monk's job is to be wise and helpful. Artwork
  6. *Within the Human Kingdoms and near the Roads by the Cloud Temple there can be found a few small posters that contain the following information.* The Brotherhood of the Red Cross The Short History of Our Order The Order began in Anthos when a young Lord by the name of William Darkstar was knighted under the Holy Order of the Red Dragon. He then proceeded to help defend the capital against insurgents and rebels. However he watched as the Knights proceeded to cause injury and death, yet would do nothing to help those who were left dying in the streets. While he would not challenge the Imperial Crown nor his own Order he still felt his duty as a Knight to help those who sorely needed his aide. During this time there were a few doctors spread about the land, many of whom were alchemists and persecuted by the Imperial Crown for 'heretical practices'. He met with them privately giving them protection for their time and knowledge. In the years to come he had obtained a balance of swordplay, alchemic, medical, and tactical knowledge. He became a battlefield medic, and just in time. During this time creatures began to invade the Empire, and sickness plagued much of the land. He and others would bring sick and wounded into the Church in order to help them through their sickness and injury and perhaps even fix and cure a few of them. He then began to take on a few apprentices. While he did this he took the Red Cross for his personal sigil and traveled around as a Medic Knight. However he was but one man, and had few followers. He became very poor, and lost much of his prestige as a lord and knight. Deciding that he needed time alone he left to lands unknown, but gave his apprentice, by name of Renart, the challenge to bring together what he could not. Brother Renart traveled the land of Anthos hoping to find other like minded men, in order to create a Brotherhood of Man that would spend time to help better their fellow man through health and service. The Three Branches There are three branches within the order led by the Magni Magistri or the Grand Master. The paths of the Vestis, Ensis, and the Tincturam. Currently there are few members, and therefore the Three Branches are suspended, currently all membership is watched over by the Magni and Brother Renart until the Order is fully alive. They are searching for men with the skills in the art of Medicine, Protection, and Alchemy in order to create a true brotherhood to serve Man. Current Socio-Politico-Religious Information While this is a Brotherhood of Holy Monks and Knights, this brotherhood takes men from all walks of life as long as they swear to uphold the ideals of serving and protecting their fellow men. They serve God and in that serve this truth, but they treat all religions with respect. They deny no race nor creed, but they mainly serve within the Human Kingdoms. For Those Who Wish to Join Those wishing to join may send a letter to the Tavern in Abresi near the fountains to contact Brother Renart and the Magni Magister. Please include your race, year of birth and current age, talents within the areas of Combat, Alchemy, Medicine, and Healing Magics, any other talents such as cooking, farming, or blacksmithing, where you live if you have a home, and any other allegiances or titles you may have. Most of this is for the future of the growth of the Brotherhood and some of it is for documentation purposes. It is my sincerest hope that any unaffiliated doctors, medics, alchemists, and even Knights please do consider the brotherhood for the sake of your fellow man. Remember Knowledge is power and power should be used to help your fellow man, not to harm it. -Brother Renart
