The Black Company of Pruessen “The land of Vander is a place of extremes, only a black hand of steel can tame it, can crush it.” Lucien III, outside of Al-Wakrah with his assembled Black and White Sepulchers, 1542. The Onyx Chronicle The Black Company of Pruessen draws its origins to machinations created by the flamenist Lucien III, prior to the Emperor John Frederick’s involvement in the land of heresy that was called Vandoria. The Pontiff wished to bestow upon the land an order, based in a fortress on the Visian Frontier, which actively went out in inquisition-like fashion and put down pockets of heresy that had sprung up in the state. However, his plans were eradicated when the Empire backed the First Qalasheen Spring which would install a Pro-Canonist monarch in Vandoria. The ideals of the Black Company remained strong in the Johannian Court which resided in the great fortress keep of the former Rovins. Priestly folk, such as the late Boiendl of Felsen, and even military-minded folk such as the King John Godfrey, would keep alive the notion that a right-wing, pro-Monarch, pro-Canonist regime must be installed and maintained. However, progress towards such was vastly outweighed when the Secularist Movement gained traction in the King’s Court. In the wake of the Secularist Rise, the right-wing was beaten back into the underworkings of the Noble Estate. Liberalism and religious freedom dominated the minds of many Lords of the Vander, and the conservative ideals of religious unity and monarchism declined. In the coming decades, the King Godfrey knelt to his higher brother, Holy Orenian Emperor By-Divine-Right John Sigismund, and the Kingdom of Vandoria was ceded into the Orenian Empire. It then became the Principality of Vandoria. With this move, Godfrey also abdicated his seat to his son, called Prince Leopold, who had to regain control over the Liberalist Faction which had taken a strong root in his father’s reign. It seemed good for Leopold, who had created a Lord Paramountcy headed by one of the strongest Liberals, who still remained loyal to the Royal Estate, named Neero Sarr, until the Vailorian Assembly of Axis Powers rose and a Second Qalasheen Insurrection occurred, spearheaded by the Kharadeens, Silverblades, and their Liberal Allies. Leopold in response sought to amass an army to destroy the Qalasheen threat.With the loans of the Burgher Estate, Leopold now employs a vast collection of mercenaries in an attempt to secure the Principality from the rebels. The Black Code The Black Company is founded upon the principles of conservatism and pro-Principality. Though their current purpose is to secure Ard Ghorrock from the Qalasheen, the memory of a Horen prince ruling over a united Vandoria is still fresh in mind. They enforce Canonism and its tenets, as well as the basic supremacy of the Johannian Bloodline and the race of Man. Their mission, their founding principle, is to crush the Second Qalasheen Insurrection, its associated Heresies, and its ideals of Religious Freedom, of Liberalism. He under Payment Contract in the Company: Shall not endorse religious freedom. Shall not endorse democracy, nor Liberal Ideals as a whole. Shall not endorse the heresies of Qalasheen. Shall obey, without hesitation nor concern, the orders of their superiors. Shall not in any way shape or form question the authority of their superiors. Shall not in any way shape or form defy the authority of their superiors. Shall not in any way shape or form hold moral qualms about the acts performed to ensure the overarching goal of the Company is completed. The Black Crag, Ard Ghorrock The Bastion of Johannian Power in the South, Ard Ghorrock has been an everlasting symbol of the dominance of Conservatism in the South. At first erected as the seat of power for a Lucienist Revival, the Crag has seen many shifts in its ownership. Now, finally in the hands of a Johannian Monarch, the Crag rests upon a bloodied and tumultuous history. Beneath the spires and curtain walls lies an intricate maze of hallways and dungeons, of armories and sleeping quarters. Every stone of this castle has tasted the blood of Man and Elf alike. Behind the immense walls and above the towering mountains, the Black Company has based itself under the flowing banner of Horen. Here, the Black Company finds its seat of power and draws upon the castle for protection, armament, and housing. In a case of invasion, the Black Company will act from their seat of power called the Black Crag. The citadel overlooks a vast, rough terrain in the Black Mountains which peak above the vastly different climates of Vandoria. The wilds surrounding Ard Ghorrock are untamed and dangerous, with equally untamed savages of the hills. Alongside these hostile tribes, sit a collection of feudalities under the Prince’s sphere of influence. The Black Company is charged with the defense, and in extreme cases the subjugation, of these Crownlands. The Company and Payment Unlike other military structures of the Realm, the Prince employs an array of paid soldiery in the form of mercenaries, draftees, and sellswords as well as sworn soldiers, such as knights and bannermen already pledged to his or hes nation’s feudal system. Each soldier is delegated into his own division, yet all hoist the great Black Banner and Onyx Dragon in battle. The Captain Risen by the hand of the Prince and approved upon by the Assembly of Serjeants, the Captain has taken charge of the entirety of the Black Company and is the delegate of the Company’s will to the Prince, and vice-versa. He often is the best fighter, or most tactical, perhaps he has proven himself a charismatic leader or has won his way with his gilded finger. The Serjeants (Payment varies) Those who command their own Lance. The Serjeants have entered into the company’s service either with a band of their own or having proven themselves as capable and dedicated leaders to the cause. These men have the ability to bear their own standard, yet are expected in battle to follow the Captain’s Will and hoist the black above all. Distinguished serjeants who lead large lances will receive larger stipends and land to house their lances. They receive a 400 minas minimum stipend every Saint’s Week for the lance, (Varies based on size and other factors) are responsible for organizing payment and properly organizing the purchase of lance’s equipment. Actual payment for the lance’s services varies from lance to lance. Man-at-Arms (Payment left to Serjeants) The Man-at-Arms are equipped with a suit of armor, both for cavalry and for their excursions on foot. Each is delegated into a commanding Serjeant’s Lance, who will see that they are horsed and trained for combat in the field of battle. The Man-at-Arms receives regular pay, distributed by their Serjeants. The Man-at-Arms can rise from Footmen at the request of their own, or of a superior. Footmen (200 Minas Each Saint’s Month, Varies Based on Service) Individual mercenaries, sell-swords, draftees, etc. The Footmen are those infantry who’ve not been recruited by a Serjeant into their own band nor entered within a band of its own. They often are the newest, less experienced members but others are veteran, lone wolf mercenaries. They receive half a Saint’s month salary up front. The Condottieri System The Condottieri System is one not seen in the Modern Realm of Man. Tracing its tradition to merchant cities and republics who sook not to levy their own citizens to war, the Condottieri utilizes professional soldiery in opposition The Prince, in an effort to levy a mass of fighting men in a minimum amount of time, offers benefits to commanders with three or more men. He enlists the commander as a Serjeant, who will receive representation in the Assembly of Serjeants, and the Serjeant is granted his own Lance, a squad of mounted soldiers at his command. The Assembly of Serjeants, comprised of each Lance’s commander, has the ability to, in the case of the Captain’s resignation, death, or deposition by the Prince, convene and elect a candidate for the Prince to approve or vice-versa. The Condottieri System also comprises over individual mercenaries. If a group of mercenaries, each hired individually, are deemed worthy enough or request to be grouped together as a Lance, one will be appointed as Serjeant. Individual mercenaries can rise to Serjeant via election, influence, service… or other means.   2. The Order of Mubarizuns A family crest adorned with the an angled crescent moon and star. Purpose Called upon by the Sultan to protect the Children of Allah and the Jewel of the Sultanate, the Mubarizun are the champions of the City of Al-Wakhrah. They stand as role models for the citizens and must be willing to risk their lives for the greater good. The Mubarizun offers those with bravery and skill to put their skills to a noble cause albeit strength alone is not necessarily required to be oathed. While individual strength is important, the Mubarizun push themselves to learn as much as they can - whether that be in the realms of politics, culture, language, or science. While off duty, a guard of the Mubarizun might be in Al-Wakhrah library studying or enjoying a smoke at the ****** lounge among comrades and citizens. The Mubarizun follows a strict code once oathed. Virtues of the Qalasheen To protect the citizen of Khalestine from interior and exterior threats. To protect the Sultan, Allah’s appointed leader for the Qalasheen. To protect and share knowledge gathered for the benefit of the Qalasheen. To show no fear when facing a foe. To respect those in command. To know restraint when dealing with the foolish. To take personal responsibility for any wrong doings. To present one’s self in the best way possible. To pursue knowledge into old age. To know humility. To avoid the gossip of prideful men. Joining The Order of the Mubarizun All willing and able are allowed to apply for joining The Order of the Mubarizun. when you have joined The Order of the Mubarizuns, you will become a citizen of The Sultanate of Khalestine. If you already are a citizen of the Sultanate of Khalestine and you do not believe in the righteous faith, you will be exempted from the foreign tax, when you join The Order of the Mubarizuns. The High Command Sultan The Nation Leader of The Sultanate of Khalestine. The Sultan holds divine right to the ruling of Khalestine and has absolute power over everything within the Sultanate. The Sultan is the one that chooses the direction of the military. His soldiers will offer their loyalty and respect towards him. His involvement is generally indirect, however, and is typically handled by his Amir. Amir An Amir is appointed by the Sultan to run the military as the Marshal. The Amir is responsible for running the military and retinues, protecting the city and civilians, protecting the Sultan, and ensuring order is kept within the land holdings. The Amir also advises the Sultan on matters of war and conflict. An Amir may hold trial against an person if accused of a crime. If the accused is foreign and of important value to another nation, the Sultan or a Steward from The Office of The Munavin will hold the trial. Low Command Naqib (Captain) A Naqib is a senior officer with many years of experience within The Order of Mubarizuns and chosen for his amazing prowess in combat and leadership. Appointed by the Amir to command a large group of muharib and jundi during military expeditions. Many are often given the tasks of recruiter and drill master. Raqib (Overseer) A Raqib is a Muharib who not only showed skills in battle, but, also skills in leadership. He will be trained in the arts of leadership by a Naqib or by the Amir self. A Raqib will test it’s leadership skills as a leader of a squad of the Mubarizuns. They are also the main recruiters of the order. Sub-Rankings Mwahtemed (Quartermaster) The Mwahtemed is an title given to those who show capability of doing such jobs as making sure the other soldiers are equipped enough to do their tasks. Specializing in the organization of arms, ranging from weaponry to armor, the task of the Mwahtemed is to assure that their fellow soldiers are equipped. Muhandis (Engineer) The Muhandis specializes in the use of military siege weaponry, such as siege crossbows, battering rams, catapults, and trebuchets. Jarraah (Surgeon) The Jarraah is the lifeline of the military by making sure the injured and wounded do not die with the use of advanced medical knowledge, vital to the job. Mutadarrib (Trainee) The Mutadarrib is an oathed recruit, they will be taught all the professions, however they will eventually specialize on one subject. The Enlisted Muharib The Muharib are the most devoted and steadfast soldiers of the main force. The men are experienced with fighting battles and are the well-disciplined fighting elites. Jundi The Jundi is the vast majority of the Mubarizuns force. They are the footmen and militiamen who serve as the primary protectors of the Sultanate and the bulk of the battlefield during war. Alwafid The Alwafid are the new unoathed recruits of the Mubarizuns and are required to be oathed by the oathing standards set. If the Alwafid is not oathed, they may not receive any additional ranking. Alwafid who are looking to work around the foreign tax must wait to be oathed. Payment & Rewards The Khalestine military uses an honour system. A soldier will be paid accordingly to the duties he fulfills.   3. The Marbrand Militia Founded by Jory Marbrand, 1548. The Marbrand Militia is a militaristic assembly of those whom wish to fight proudly for the realm of Vandoria, and the house of Marbrand. Built upon the virtuous values of courage, loyalty, and honor it encourages those of any ethnicity or race to register for the militia. ~ This newly founded military association is heavily affiliated with the kingdom of Vandoria, and is sworn devotedly to serve and protect the realm. All soldiers of the Marbrand Militia will be offered a place within the kingdom and the current patriarch of House Marbrand will possibly chance you with a home within the holdings of the house. ~ All persons over the age of fourteen are permitted to join the Marbrand Militia, them being either female or male. Minors below the age of fourteen may still associate themselves with the noble house, as pages and students of the current soldiers. ~ The militia's base of operations is found in the holdings of House Marbrand, the lordship of Marbrand and the riverkeep of Marford. Any member who desires to fight valorously for the realm and the house of Marbrand may contact either Jory Marbrand, Sigjira Marbrand, or a soldier found with the tabard upon their visage. ~ Marbrand Divisions The Marbrand Militia is separated into four distinct divisions to cater to the skills and abilities of certain figures. This procedure is used to accurately train, command and organize those with diverse capabilities and strengths. ~ 1st Division - Elite The 1st Division is a department of the militia that holds the most highly trained soldiers of the entire association. There are only seven or so soldiers that would be found within the 1st Division, and is extremely awarding to be placed among such strong and competent warriors. ~ 2nd Division - Competent The 2nd Division is a department of the militia that holds competent soldiers that train diligently and loyally. They are held in high regard by their peers and are trusted with errands and duties that may been seen difficult by others. It is quite awarding still, to be placed within this division. ~ 3rd Division - Sound The 3rd Division is a department of the militia that holds soldiers that have passed the examinations and assessments of their commanders, and are ready to fight and serve loyally. The standard requirement of the entire association, without this division, there would be no standing platform to steady the entire build. ~ 4th Division - Miscellaneous The 4th Division is a department that is seen foreign to most. Figures of foreign crafts, such as engineering, construction, agricultural, and of course the arcane arts can be founded here. Those that are found within this division are still required to fight and protect the kingdom and their liege, Lord Marbrand, yet specialize in their chosen craft. ~ Commanders & Authority The commanders and those in charge of the Marbrand Militia are to be held in high regard of the soldiers, and treated with curt respect. Those that fail to hold such respect for those in power will be punished and disciplined.   4. At the crack of dawn, a young Qalasheen girl waves her handkerchief from the edge of Al-Wakhrah’s docks. A sad farewell with a feeling of longing - already wanting her father to come back home. The fleet was almost out of sight, vanishing in the thick mist that blanketed the horizon. A group of men and women gathered into the captain’s quarters of the HMS Temp Thersist. The Oberdiktator sits at his desk, looking to those among him. To his left, the Caliph Faiz Kharadeen of Al-Wakhrah. To his right, Marshal Richard Revlis of The Horde of Dunamis. Across from him are some of the men and women of Hallowvale. “Gentlemen…-.” The Oberdiktator nods to everyone in attendance. “I do not call myself a conqueror. I do, however, call myself someone not to **** with!” The Oberdiktator slams his balled fist upon the desk. “My patience has been tried for too long. I restrained myself when these degenerates dared lay hand upon my business affiliates. I warned them to never disrespect the laws of our land again. And what do I get for showing patience? ****. They literally reached out and gave me a handful of their pagan ****. And what do they expect me to do with their ****? Stand there and hold it like some sort of yoctogram? SOME HECTOPASCAL? Nae, I will toss it back into their faces and put them down like the disobedient dogs they are.” “Frederick, listen.” Caliph Faiz Kharadeen speaks softly in a calm voice. “The Red Brothers are enemies of the Reich. They’re enemies to us all. While I do not condone wanton killing, Allah favors us for our cause is just. Here, come outside.” The Caliph leads the way outside as the Oberdiktator and others follow. As the fleet of ships continued on, they come towards a massive battleship with red sails emerging from the mist. Of eastern work, the ship’s grandeur was unparalleled to other naval vessels in Vailor. Though perhaps it was a bit eccentric and flamboyant in style. “What the ****…?” The Oberdiktator gawks at the ship with his voice trailing off. “Here it is, Frederick. I once served your grandfather Voron loyally. And now I give this gift to the Reich.” The Caliph smiles to the Oberdiktator, happy with his shocked reaction. “What do we call it?” He ***** an eyebrow up, looking to the Caliph. “HMS Beltran's mutinium, also known as HMS Make it Reich. It reminds me of a slantie who once served your grandfather. Perhaps one day, you will find a comrade who will display loyalty equivalent to that man.” The Oberdiktator breaks out into a smile as he pats the Caliph on the back. Others from all across the fleet gazed upon the battleship and broke out into their own individual chants representing where they were from. For the first time since the Ducal War, the men and women of what was once only Khalestine were united. Karakatua, Sutica, Al-Wakhrah, Blackwater Bay, and Hallowvale. All other faction chants were drowned out as one chant emerged victorious, unifying the people. “FIDAI FIDAI FIDAI FIDAI - FREE THE CAMELS!” The suns breaks through the mist, lighting the fleet’s way to Norland. ______________________________________________________________________ For the wanton disrespect for the laws of Vandoria and Her vassals including but not limited to attacking men and women of the military and civilians, attempted assassinations on various nobles, property damage while attempting to break and enter closed off places, attempting to incite traitorous behavior within Vandoria and her lands, attacking allies and business partners, banditing on Vandoria’s roads and marching their armies through Vandorian land, the Königreich of Vandoria has decided to purge the “Norlandese” and the Red Brothers. Having been warned several times about their trespasses in Vandoria and disrespect towards the sovereignty of Vandoria, the Oberdiktator is left we no other option but to seek retribution in order to protect his people. With permission from the Grand Kingdom of Urguan to sail around their western coast and move north to strike Norland as well as permission to dock Königreich of Vandoria declares war on Norland. ______________________________________________________________________ WARCLAIM DETAILS TYPE OF BATTLE: Beach Landing (Skirmish) TIME: Sunday the 3rd of January, 10 PM GMT, 5 PM EST, 2 PM PST (Proposed) ATTACKERS: The Königreich of Vandoria DEFENDERS: Norland and the band known as “The Red Brothers” LOCATION: This is Vandoria’s path. Given permission by the Dwarven Clan Grandaxe, Vandoria’s ships will dock at the first rectangle, and then move south. They will then head east to assault Norland. This will be the skirmish location. (Proposed). TERMS OF VICTORY: VICTORY FOR ATTACKERS- If all defending forces are killed or routed. VICTORY FOR DEFENDERS- If all attacking forces are killed or routed. REWARDS: Vandoria victory: Ability to conquest and lay siege to Norland’s port city as seen in the picture. A siege camp outside of Norland’s city will be established. Norland victory: The area will be non-war claimable for a month. RULES: -No status switching. -No golden apples. -No altering of terrain or construction of new fortifications after this WC is posted. -All LOTC rules.
