Woe to the Imperial Guard, whose duty lies forgotten, left to rot beneath their noses.

On the 10th of the Deep Cold, 2034, I had returned to Alba on another patrol, still searching for the darkspawn that had slipped through earlier that day. That is when I saw it, a skeleton, dressed in black robes, walking the streets like it belonged there. I was not alone. I was accompanied by heathen dwarves who, to their credit, helped bring down the abomination. At that point, I believed surely that would be the end of it. There could be no possible way a third interaction with darkspawn would occur in the same day.

I was wrong.

Later, while conducting a test on another dwarf, he passed the examination. However, when his person was searched… it was like opening a gate to hell itself. The dwarf was discovered to be a Lich, possibly even an Arch-Lich. As he attempted to flee, black smoke erupted from the ground beneath him. We charged after the Lich. We pleaded for the Empire’s guard force to assist.

And yet... they did nothing.

They seemed far too occupied with their own conversations at the tavern, gossiping, laughing, unmoved. It is a disgrace to turn your back on your fellow man, to allow darkspawn to breed and spread unchecked through the streets of Alba. I have not seen such shameful inaction since the days of Haense. The Lich was eventually brought down. But not before I lost my eye. And perhaps that wound would not have been necessary, if the guards had done their job.

I now call upon the Lord Marshal to right this wrong. Let discipline be returned to the soldiers of man, before their complacency invites our destruction. This day was not a victory. Yes, three darkspawn were uncovered in Alba, by yours truly, because the guards are useless and do not test. They do not watch, nor do they not ask questions. And so the burden falls to those who still fear GOD. But more damning than any undead is this: the truth is that the Imperial Guard force no longer cares for the safety or protection of its people.

What has happened to man? He has grown fat. Lazy. Blind.

Justice will be had. Whether by my hand… or by the hand of GOD.

To His Imperial Majesty, and to the Empire of Man,

I write to you with humility in my heart and the weight of reflection upon my shoulders. I offer this missive as a formal apology for my recent outburst concerning the state of the Imperial Guard in Alba. My words were spoken with conviction, but not with the restraint or respect that your throne is rightly owed.

I do not take back my concern, but I do regret the manner in which it was expressed. In the heat of battle, having faced three darkspawn in a single day and suffering the loss of my left eye, my emotions overwhelmed my discipline. Still, I recognize that duty to GOD does not excuse disregard for proper order. I should have brought my concerns through the appropriate chain of command. For that, I offer my sincerest apologies.

Though I cannot pledge myself to the Imperial military, as my vows as a monk and Chaptermaster bind me to the Church and the Order of the Grail of Saint Lucien, I do offer my continued service in the classroom. I have spent a lifetime hunting darkspawn, heretics, and the cursed. I know what to look for. And I am willing to share this knowledge freely for the safety of the realm and the glory of GOD and Man.

If it please Your Majesty, I am prepared to advise any Imperial officer or garrison on how to detect, test, and confront the threats that fester in shadow.

May GOD watch over your reign and strengthen the Empire of Man.

To the faithful and watchful across the Empire,

On the 8th of the Deep Cold, 2034, whilst on Patrol in Alba, I encountered a most foul occurrence, one that I now bring to your attention with great urgency.

As I patrolled the streets, I was seized by the stench of rot, the worst I have whiffed in many years. Following the odor, I came upon a halfling, grotesque in scent and manner. When I began to question it about its condition, the being grew increasingly erratic, and evasive.

Upon further interrogation, it attempted to flee. I pursued, cornered it, and once more declared my intention to inspect its nature. And once again, it fled. But this time, it cried aloud:

"Truffles is just Truffles!"

Let it be known - I do not believe Truffles is just Truffles.

It is my firm belief that this halfling is a ghoul in disguise.

If you come upon this being, do not engage in dialogue. Do not show pity. The only mercy to be offered is a swift death, followed by fire. Burn the creature, and scatter its ashes to the wind, that it may not rise again to plague our world.

The light of GOD reveals all abominations. Let not this one walk among us unchallenged.

To all who are concerned, be you a guard sworn to protect your people, or a citizen faithful to GOD.

It is your duty, delivered unto you by the LORD Himself, to protect your fellow men from the corruption that festers in the shadows. This duty is not one you may cast aside. If you truly wish to serve your country or your Creator, then hear me well:

Do not make deals with the wicked. Do not reason with the damned.

If you spot one among you, undead, heretic, cursed child, or otherwise corrupted, it is your duty to act. They are not to be protected or studied, but cleansed. They are not our brothers. They are our test.

If you do not yet know how to identify a darkspawn, then seek me out. I will instruct you. But even without guidance, you have your GOD-given senses. Most undead cannot mask the stench of decay. Even if they bathe in perfume and soap, the foulness of death will cling to them like a second skin.

I have received reports from all corners of Canondom, that these abominations are walking freely in our cities, whispering into ears, hiding behind false names. This cannot be allowed to continue.

You, people of GOD, must know the signs. You must know the response.

Cleanse them. With blade, or with flame.

For if you do nothing, then you have already failed in the eyes of the LORD.

Brothers and faithful alike,

On the 17th of the Amber Cold of  2034, troubling news had reached my ears. I had received word that one of our own, Brother Vinton, known also by the moniker the 'Maidenless One', had been arrested by the virtuous Imperial Guard. After swift inquiry, it was revealed that Vinton sought to construct a levy with the intention to “break my legs,” as was stated in the report.

This act of treachery brought shame not only upon his own name, but upon the very rank and mantle he bore within the Order of the Grail. It is with sorrow that I declare: Vinton’s mind had been corrupted. Corrupted and twisted by the influence of devils, Cursed born, for their kind has long preyed upon the minds of the weak.

We have lost him. Lost him to their games, their whispers, their heresies.

Thus, by Canon Law and the authority vested in me as Chaptermaster of the Order of the Grail of Saint Lucien, Brother Vinton was swiftly and rightfully executed.

Let this stand as a warning to all: place your trust only in the LORD, for He alone is the light. Should you lose sight of it, should you stray even a step from the path... you will fall into shadow. And in shadow, Iblees waits.

Walk in the light, or be consumed by the flame.

Covenant and the Rod

"Let the house be built on covenant, not comfort—its walls set by the Father’s hand, its flame kept by fear of God, not fear of man."

Today, in many cities, we witness a tangible decay of the family structure—a sharp departure from the principles that have upheld families, city-states, and even civilizations since time immemorial. Some may question why the family unit was designed the way it was, or why we should continue to uphold what they deem an outmoded tradition.

But the answer lies in the origin of our very being. The All-Knowing, created us in His image—an image He carried in His ever-creative heart. We are a reflection of Him, and of the deep love He holds for us. He created us Man and Woman. When they come together in union, when they raise a child, they take on the sacred duty of mirroring the Heavenly Father. Man becomes an earthly father, a living ambassador of the Father who reigns beyond the skies.

We are commanded to love fully, to live with tenderness embedded in our thoughts, hearts, and actions. But tell me—what is tender about fornication? What is loving about abandoning a woman and child, shirking the burden of accountability? There is no courage in sowing life and fleeing from it. Woe to those who exalt their own desires above duty, who trade virtue for self-worship, and in doing so, spiritually neuter themselves.

A man’s God-given purpose is duty. He was created to serve. His heart must remain fixed on the Most Merciful; his will bound to God's will. If he moves in grace, he will surely live in peace.

Only a father can rightly instill discipline in his children, because he stands as the household’s authority—a representative of divine order. He does not fear justice. He does not shrink from the weight of punishment, for he understands it not as cruelty, but as the act of tempering a child’s will so it may conform to God’s, and so the child may fulfill their responsibilities on this earth.

The unruly nature of a child—especially a young boy—inevitably clashes with the soft, nurturing love of the mother. She is the caregiver, the balm. But in her boundless care lies a tendency to shield, to soften. Without the balance of paternal firmness, the child risks being untrained. The father is the axis of the family’s order—the fire that tempers the metal of the child’s will. To discipline is not to destroy, but to mold. An undisciplined soul grows like a vine without a trellis—twisting in on itself, reaching for shadows, bearing bitter fruit. But the father’s hand, strong yet loving, directs it toward the light.

He punishes not in wrath, but in reverence. He understands that indulging youthful impulse is planting the seeds of ruin. So he guides with principle, corrects with purpose, and leads with the strength of one who has tasted hardship and chosen virtue. In Of Smoke and Sacrifice, we read: “If a sibling strays... it is the father... who guides the lost back to the fold.” The household must be governed like a sanctuary, and the father is its high servant—not living for comfort, but for sacrifice. Discipline, then, becomes the altar where love and duty meet. It is not merely correction—it is covenant.

And what of honor? If a child is to respect their elders, they must first see their father as unwavering—not permissive, not weak, but firm in principle. A house without paternal correction is like a citadel with open gates—into it march pride, rebellion, and decay. 

The father does not demand obedience for his own sake, but because he represents a higher order. To defy him is not merely to break a household rule—it is to rebel against the very structure that binds together the family, the city, and the soul.

The hearth must be stoked with righteousness. Let the father fuel it not with indulgence, but with integrity. Let his hand be strong, his heart soft. For a shepherd who will not strike the wolf invites the slaughter of his flock.

Issued on the 19th of The First Seed, 2027

Let it be known to all the faithful and just:

On the 19th of The First Seed, 2027, I, Brother Vincenzo, Chaptermaster of the Order of the Grail of Saint Lucien, was summoned to Reinmar by Bishop Josefina upon the sighting of a cursed-child. I made haste and arrived in Reinmar, where I found said devil. A grotesque thing bearing fish-like features. I was met by a number of concerned citizens, including children and a nun, who testified that the devil-spawn had threatened them, warning them to lock their doors. Such intimidation is seen as spiritual terrorism, an open threat upon the peace of Canondom.

A guard of Reinmar by the name of Valentin stepped forth and declared that justice should be carried out by the hands of the Host. I agreed. However, just before righteous judgment could be fulfilled, Rudolf von Weisenstein intervened and obstructed the execution. This delay allowed the devil time to flee.

Though the devil was later recaptured, Rudolf continued to kvetch and undermine the Church’s judgment, speaking in defense of the devil. When asked to accompany us to the cells to wait for Cardinal Nerium, he gave the appearance of cooperation, only to once again cause issue, instructing the devil to run. The devil escaped, and Rudolf drew steel upon Brother Vinton, initiating a duel. Though the combat was halted by command, Rudolf once again chose cowardice, fleeing the scene and evading the justice he had already delayed.

In flight, Rudolf von Weisenstein has only confirmed his guilt, sedition, and contempt toward the ecclesiastical authority of the Holy Mother Church.

Therefore, we call upon the faithful across Canondom:

To apprehend Rudolf von Weisenstein and deliver him ALIVE to the custody of the Order of the Grail of Saint Lucien, to face a proper trial under the Ecclesiastical Court.

A reward of 200 minas shall be granted upon his safe delivery.

May this closing bring peace to those who have long awaited the end of this affair.

A Thesis on Temperance

-An Order of the Grail squire praying-

With the flock of Canon coming to peace once and for all, I see this thesis as necessary for reflection, knowledge, and faith. I reflect on these past years of unfortunate war and how the flock can learn from this and how many question the Lord God and his most holy ambassadors of the Curia, not just from the former Horenic Covenant but also from those who pledge their ties to the Pontifically realm. I recite the first Canticle of Temperance: 

“ 1. Lo and Attend, for I am the Lord God, and I am in the foremost part of Heaven.”

 To this, I say, why question the will of our Lord, and why question our most Holy ambassadors of the Curia. 

“ 2. Though the spring flower withers and the fruit of the tree falls to the ground, my word lasts into the eve of the world, and the fruit of virtue cannot rot.” 

This line reflects much of the state of our realm now, the spring flower representing the ways of old, the fruit of the tree being those of the faith whom lost their ways failing and falling from the good graces of our lord, and those who stay faithful and true loyaltys to the lord god shall not fall like those who lost faith.  

“ 5. And as I made for you the worldly pleasures, so have I made the pleasure of the spirit, and love of the husband and wife.”

This line should be greatly taken by the former people of the Covenant, for the Lord God granted your former rulers the divine right of their station and the people their spirits, who were they to question God and his Holy representatives to fall to the Sin of Greed and forsake what God created and granted them. Such is referenced in lines 7 - 8

“ 7. For I have given to you the pleasures of the world and they shall comfort you in the theater of virtue, 8. You shall take them carefully and shall not become a creature of worldly indulgence as the beast of the earth.”

Take these words to mind, open thy heart to our lord and his holy representatives, fall not into temptation, let thy soul learn Temperance and be good to thy neighbour and family.

Estevot resided in the druidic Vale of Naevelhen, where false rites are practiced, and no Canonist temple stands—placing his soul, and that of his family, in danger.

Disobeyed orders from the Auditor during the devil-spawn decree, refusing to execute those marked for death. Furthermore, he has misused his military authority to protect abominations such as Devil-Spawn, and the Kharajyr. Further obstructing the justice of the Church.

Violation of the Covenant of Purity
By defending unnatural beings and aiding the impure, Estevot has broken the Covenant sworn by Prophet Owyn, promoting impurity among the Sons of Horen.

Let it be known to all Canonist faithful that Estevot Heymor is a danger to the Church, a betrayer of oaths, and a defender of heresy. He must be brought to justice. Turn him in to Chaptermaster Vincenzo of the Order of the Grail of Saint Lucien and receive 500 minas in reward.

With war outstanding and its presence seared into the public consciousness—into our very souls and minds—it is all too easy to become distracted. To see the world only in tinges of darkness, to paint it in bleak strokes, and to overlook the seeds of goodness that bloom amidst the ruin.

Yet even in the deepest night, light persists, piercing through a twisted perception. It is in these times, above all, that we must hold our heads high. Regardless of circumstance or happenings, we must press forward, unwavering, and continue to spread the wondrous message of the Most Merciful.

Earlier, I was given the express privilege of welcoming another into the flock—a lost soul, one bound to the tribal customs of the desert, ensnared by the brash and abrasive nature that often dooms it. Alongside a fellow brother and preacher of the Canonist faith, I ventured deep into the heart of the harshlands, into the stronghold of the Horde of Many Tribes, where we spread the message of the Most Merciful, acting in tenderhearted faith.

But it is in such wicked places that the faithful must act. With unwavering devotion to the faith and a singular focus on its divine interests, we must extend an olive branch to the lost—those who wander this world blind to the light, their hearts hardened by ignorance.

A child—one still closest to the heart of GOD, untainted by the corruption of this world—stood among them. An Uruk, no less. And yet, this young one listened. He spoke of his uncleanliness, of how the world had dimmed his appreciation for something greater. Against the tide of his culture, he yearned for renewal. It was only right that we offer him baptism, that he might cast away the stains of his past and profess his soul anew in the faith of Canon.

Good Tidings, Brothers and Sisters,

Upon my secluded meditation atop Lemon Hill, where solitude and prayer meet the sky and ear of THE MOST MERCIFUL, I was met with the most peculiar of interruptions. A disturbance—but not of ill intent.

An unfamiliar face approached me, a new initiate into the Order of the Grail—one whom I had never before laid eyes upon. Yet, the moment our gazes met, something deep within my soul stirred. Rejoice! My spirit urged, and how right it was. For I bring forth good news—a divine omen.

This peculiar man, a wanderer drawn to the faith, recounted a tale of remarkable providence. After the destruction of his village,  when all hope seemed lost, he was delivered from despair by none other than an Aengul of the Most Merciful. He described a radiant maiden, clad in golden robes, glowing like the dawn, who came to him in a dream. She instructed him to flee, to seek sanctuary in Lemon Hill, and above all—to heed GOD’s calling and embrace the flock.

But lo, the wonders of this day did not end there. Nay, not even half a citrus hour later, while still engaged in discourse with this newfound messenger of the faith, we were interrupted yet again. This time, by a being unlike any other. It was refreshing for my spirit to see. A construct of earth and stone—one many would call unfeeling, incapable of higher thought—approached with a question upon its lips and longing in its heart. It wished to know more of the True Faith.

And as we spoke at measure, I witnessed yet another miracle. This great being, knelt before the cleansing flame. It lofted its burdens to the fire, whispering a prayer unto GOD’s ear. Yet another sheep drawn into the flock.

Two came to GOD this day. One of flesh, one of stone, yet both were drawn by His divine hand. If even the unlikeliest of souls—the lost and the lifeless—can be moved by His grace, how can we, as His faithful, ever falter? GOD calls not only the righteous, but the wayward. He does not seek only the strong, but the broken. He does not ask for perfection—He asks for faith. And so, I tell you: If a stranger crosses your path, do not cast him aside. If an unbeliever asks of your faith, do not silence your tongue. For the Holy Light does not only shine in the grand cathedrals, nor upon the brows of kings, but in the smallest acts of mercy, in the whispered prayers of the searching, and in the humble flames of Lemon Hill.

For we are many, yet we are one. We walk under GOD, and His plan reigns supreme.

Blessed be GOD’s name. By His grace alone—under divine protection—the forces of the Canonist faithful endure, for no enemy may stand against the will of the Most High.

Today, we bear witness to the power of faith, yet also the tragic cost of division. An orc, blameless in his devotion, sought only to walk in GOD’s light and stand beside the Holy Mother Church. In an act of goodwill, he entered Haense, a land that should have been one of sanctuary. Yet, rather than being met with the hospitality befitting a servant of the faith, he was met with the zest of evil, agents of Iblees. The gates shut behind him, locking him within the city walls—not as a guest, but as a prisoner. The zeal of mortal men, twisted by fear and worldly division, had led them astray.

Yet, GOD’s mercy triumphs over the folly of men. By His divine will, the orc was delivered from his captors, spared from the unjust hand that sought to bind him. What greater proof do we need that GOD reigns supreme? That no earthly force, no misguided ruler nor petty faction, can hope to overpower His will?

It is clear that the lines of war have been drawn not only upon maps but upon the hearts of men. Invisible barriers have risen—not between good and evil, but between brother and brother, between believer and believer. If a man, faithful and true, cannot step beyond a gate without fear of chains, then we must ask ourselves: have we strayed so far from GOD’s path that we no longer recognize our own kin? 

This is not a battle of us versus them—it is GOD’s will versus the unbeliever. Families splinter, alliances crumble, and every day, Iblees laughs at our weakness. But we must not falter. If we truly model ourselves after the Most Merciful, then how can we fail to grant our fellow faithful the same mercy? If a man cannot walk freely in the lands of the faithful, then what hope remains for the world?

Let this be a lesson, not just for today, but for all the days to come. No man of GOD shall be left behind.

Brother George Halcourt stepped off his horse as he arrived at his destination. His ambition brought him here, at the top of Mount Tylos, or so he thought. The place was wrong, a mountain top more south of his desired destination, but the intention was right and true: to reflect on the meaning of the word mercy. And so he sat himself down, cross legged, eyes closed.

A squire’s thesis: Mercy

Introduction

When I was sent on a pilgrimage to Mount Tylos to reflect on the word Mercy, I embarked on a journey that proved to be both physically and spiritually transformative. The path to the mountaintop was not just a physical ascent but a metaphorical one, leading me to explore the depths of mercy in ways I hadn't anticipated. In the quiet solitude of the mountain, I found myself contemplating this powerful and elusive concept from multiple perspectives.

In this exploration, I will first examine how the concept of mercy is commonly used. Next, I will reflect on the ancient Holy scrolls. Finally, I will share my own reflections on mercy—what I have come to believe it truly means, how it challenges us, and how it has the potential to transform not only individual lives but entire societies. 

Common use

In everyday life, the word "mercy" is often invoked to express compassion, forgiveness, or leniency in situations where justice or strict adherence to rules might otherwise prevail. People use mercy to soften the consequences of a mistake, whether in personal relationships, fights, or societal interactions. For instance, a parent may show mercy by forgiving a child's misbehavior instead of enforcing a punishment, while on the battlefield, a Knight might demonstrate mercy by offering a second chance, life, to another soldier who lost the fight.. Additionally, mercy is used in social contexts to call for understanding and tolerance. When someone requests mercy, they are often seeking empathy or a reprieve from harsh judgement. In these daily scenarios, mercy is closely linked to human kindness and the desire to balance fairness with compassion, providing space for growth, learning, and reconciliation.

Mercy in the Scrolls
In The Scroll of the Virtue, mercy is intricately tied to the practice of various virtues, though not explicitly mentioned. The text emphasizes qualities like charity, patience, and humility, which inherently involve acts of mercy. For instance, in the Canticle of Charity, the Lord commands, "You shall give your fellows the abundance of the spirit, which is My Word," encouraging the faithful to show mercy by sharing spiritual wealth with others. Likewise, the Canticle of Patience calls for enduring hardship without "raising a hand in wrath, nor in envy," suggesting that mercy is not only about forgiveness but also about patience and restraint in the face of suffering. The Canticle of Humility further implies mercy by advising, "You shall not judge your own virtue, be it great or small, for all fall short of Me," underscoring the importance of humility and the recognition that all are in need of divine mercy.

My definition
In my personal view, mercy can be understood as a complex and paradoxical gift. On one hand, it is an act of grace, a benevolent offering of compassion or forgiveness when it is not deserved. However, this very act implies something deeper: the gift of mercy often comes from a place of having the power to take or condemn. In this way, mercy is not merely an unearned favor but also a relinquishment of something once desired—whether it be punishment, retribution, or even control. The very essence of mercy lies in its ability to transform a decision to harm into one of kindness or leniency. It is, therefore, a gift not only in its bestowal but also in its reversal of intent. When we extend mercy, we are choosing not to take what we once believed was rightfully ours, offering instead something of greater moral value—a reprieve, an opportunity for redemption.

Brothers and Sisters, In these times of great division—when senseless death surrounds us and cries of horror fill the air—it is more important than ever to remember the good. The Light of the Creator is always with us, shining even in the darkest moments.

It is easy to grow disheartened, to focus only on the evil that plagues our world. But true strength lies in recognizing that both hot and cold winds fuel the storm. In much the same way, today, a miracle has been revealed. Idols have been shattered, and the spirit of GOD has triumphed.

After the trials of battle—after a crushing defeat delivered to our foes—the Canonist forces and the Order of the Grail stand victorious. Yet, amid the ruins of conflict, something greater has emerged. A captured enemy, once counted among our foes, has willingly sought the mercy of the Church—and more importantly, of GOD.

An elf, once lost, pleaded for baptism, yearning to correct the error of her ways. With encouragement and guidance, she has embraced the faith, and I am overjoyed to announce another soul welcomed into the flock.

 It is easy to dehumanize "the other side," to paint the enemy in a single shade. But it takes a strong and GODLY heart to recognize the flaws within us all. If we granted one another just a bit more grace, if we stifled our words for even a moment to see the soul behind the blade, perhaps we would witness more conversions.

We must not drive the lost into Iblees’ clutches. Instead, we must treat all as the Most Merciful would wish us to—with wisdom, patience, and love.

So to you Sons of Malin, who have fallen to other faiths, I admonish: GOD is in all creation, and divinity comes not from the verdure nor the beasts of this world, but are breathed into them by Him. And GOD is with all holy things, be they of glade or village. 

From Saint Owyn’s Epistle to the Elves, verses 16 to 17.

Regarding Malin

That the founder of the priesthood wrote an epistle to the Tribes of Malin which has been preserved through the ages as a part of the Canon of the faith suggests with no doubt that there is a plan for elves within the eternal providence of the Almighty GOD as members of the faith. This was known even to the ancient Kaedreni who are known today for their reputed infamy among elves, for Saint Peter Chivay famously made allies with elves who kept themselves righteous. He had kept instead as primary enemy to the Rose not the entirety of the tribes of Malin but rather those who shrouded themselves in darkness and hatred, called then the ‘Edgies’. This was known also to Godfrey who appointed elves even to the priesthood, and ruled over many within his great empire.

Therefore it is not the elves nor their natural inclinations which are to be considered abhorrent before the True Faith, but rather the perversion of their purpose which is warned of within the Scroll of Spirit; that the nature of verdure and beasts is exalted by them as the highest order, and all that serves that order may be considered good. 

We can observe by our own eyes the danger, whereas much like the corruption of the void there are druids who have the very magic twisting them into monstrous versions of themselves and call it ‘nature’ for it is like a beast. Just as there is nothing of true nature about the werewolf, there is nothing natural to any extreme act of the Fae. That corruption may disguise itself by feather or leaf does not mean it is any less abhorrent to twist the natural shape of creatures, especially GOD’s sapient peoples.

Horen in the Gardens

The Order of the Holy Grail of Saint Lucien has been active in the region of Nevaehlen for some years. There, they have engaged many elves, and stowed terror of their wrath. Certainly some behavior was in excess of the Virtue of Horen, which has been corrected with instruction and reprimand. But this activity has not been fruitless, for whilst conducting their patrols and tests, they had encountered thralls of Iblees. Most notably was one encounter where an elf who refused a test had turned out to be a foul sorcerer of undead, and their companion (who was struck in the fighting, but was spared by Banneret Godefroy d’Amaury) claimed that the sorcerer were a known enemy, but was being investigated. We would advise against letting in necromancers into your homes, even if you wish to learn of them.

It was in this context that a young child of a grailman and citizen of the Holy States, Elis Amélie d’Amaury had been speaking to a holy sister within the Pontifical States. Encouraged by counsel of the sister that “many of these elves, dwarves and even orcs may be righteous” Elis wished to see for herself, so she slipped out of the Pontifical States and spoke to an elf on a bridge outside Nevaehlen.

“How come you do not love GOD?” asked the young girl, and she was met with rebuke. Those friends of elves may begin to sympathize with the elf who felt agitated. Had not many of her race and creed been trouble to the elves? Surely one could claim it is justified, or at the very least understandable. Yet the elf did not merely rise to anger, but screamed and shouted at the child to leave the land, that they were not welcome. This may be a less defensible position, but what follows is egregious. When the child in frustration shouted back a childish insult, the elf sought to throw a spear, gravely injuring the child’s arm and nearly executing a killing attack.

It is in this context that this missive is written; for the instruction of both the ordermen of the grail and the elves of Nevaehlen. The former must master the Virtue of Horen and gain victory over temptations of wanton violence to instead make glory for GOD by purposeful crusade. The latter must learn to fear their own EVIL, for they have grown complacent if one of their number complacent blasphemed and struck a child.

The leaders of Nevaehlen were warned, by both the Order of the Holy Grail and the Seneschal of the Temple; yet never a reply was heard until last Saint’s Eve, and only because they had been reminded. Their time was extended greatly, and operations withheld; but no attempt to rectify the attack on the faithful child nor restore trust for over two years after hefty warnings. Therefore, the Temple orders the Grail to no longer stay their hand, but to strike with precision…

The Way of Heaven is not paved through success, but restraint. It is easy to cleave any man who would stand in your way. It is wiser to know when to swing.

Proverb from the Elder Danzen.

Therefore in accordance with the Canon Law doctrine of Just War, in commemoration of the Kaedreni traditions of Saints Peter Chivay, Thomas Chivay, and Adrian Sarkozy; and in prayerful reverence to the namesake inspiration of the firm hand of the church, Saint Lucien; SHALL the Order of the Holy Grail of Saint Lucien be deployed against Nevaehlen for the following goals:

I. To achieve justice against the attacker of the child Elis d’Amaury, wrongfully stricken with intent to kill.

II. To purify Nevaehlen of any common occurrence of evil, striking terror in the hearts of all enslaved to Iblees who may linger near there.

III. To enfranchise the rightful worship of the Creator, that the inhabitants rightfully fear to blaspheme and fear the wrongful worship of the idols of the Wild Faith as gods.

IV. To investigate Nevaehlen’s population for demonry and build a registry, to aid in further hunts of those enthralled to Iblees or his servants.

V. To rebuke all druids who may wrongfully attribute power to themselves, to nature, or to the aspects; for all power is that of the Creator.

Pursuant to these goals and not in violence excess to them, the Order of the Grail is instructed to abide by the following rules of engagement as a code that they do not fall victim to the excessive violence common in acts of war.

I. None shall be maimed nor slain unless they have specifically provoked a provision of this code. Punishment of beating shall not be administered by one orderman, and not in excess of three strikes per instance. Any executions are to be purges with remains burned with holy water and salt scattered atop.

II. Those who blaspheme or otherwise insult the dignity of the Creator shall be beaten, and insistent egregious insult to the Creator shall be met with summary execution. 

III. The Aspects and Mani shall not be worshipped, called to for intervention, or addressed as ‘gods’ without punishment of beating, but it is not the scope of this Rebuke to totally abolish all reference of the Aspects nor Mani within Nevaehlen.

IV. Those who outright insult and deny the legitimacy of the priesthood of the True Faith may be punished by beating, though not executed. One must not try to goad them into insult, nor punish them for refusing to convert (for none may convert by sword ‘less it be False Faith).

V. Those who refuse to accept testing or interview shall be compelled to by force, and punished by beating. Any triggering of the test shall obviously call for purging.

Lucien’s Rebuke shall be called to an immediate halt once the tribe of Nevaehlen has conceded surrender, and committed to terms to establish trust that it may be left alone without insult to the Creator nor his temple. The Violence shall only escalate if necessary by actions of Nevaehlen, for the goal remains the taming of the Wild, not its desolation.

A Letter from the Editor to the Elves…

I write these orders not in my office as King of the Adunians (for Numendil has no part in this, rather it is the charge of the Order of the Grail), but as Seneschal to the Temple, for the SINGULAR Creator is ALMIGHTY but also MOST MERCIFUL. These orders are virtuous, and the grailmen shall uphold them rightly. My counsel has been sought before, and ignored until a late hour. I shall give it again; simply make it right. Your leaders told me in private that nothing is wrong in the Vale, that worship is not meant for Mani nor Aspects, that the criminal was not known, and his deeds deemed abhorrent to your ears. Then what is there to fear? Why was there delay? Now the Grailmen are mustered, and they shall not be told to stop until there is major action to attend the situation. I lament that a new leader be given such a trial, but I pray that you may come through it edified, and in accord with the true Lord of all realms; GOD.

To all faithful Canonists, noble warriors, and defenders of righteousness, 

The Order of the Grail of Saint Lucien calls upon the brave and devoted to join our ranks in the cause of Saint Owyn’s Flaming Sword, the purification of all that is wicked and enthralled to Iblees for the glory of GOD. 

It is our duty to restore the sanctifying flame granted by GOD as lord of all realms, greater than any king or prince. Principalities and Powers seek to steal the lands and enthrall them to wicked causes and lesser spirits, be it IDOLATRY or plain DEVIL-WORSHIP; through the grace and strength granted by GOD, the Order of the Grail shall carry the Temple’s holy banner and drive it deep into the heart of all lands.

The Vale lies under the shadow of the corruption of nature, praising all that is unnatural among the verdure and beasts as the princes of nature. This is not the Mani’s right to rule, nor their power to shape, but instead the dominion of GOD. We shall restore the FEAR of GOD into the faithful of Malin once more.

Those who hear this calling and wish to take up arms for this just cause are urged to make their way to Ard’Karden, at the Holy See, where you may find Holy Ser Vincenzo. To the Faithful of Canondom,

Their dutiful endeavour was rewarded, for it was on this day that Brother Cassian spied a most curious figure. Hunched over and cloaked in darkness, the entity shifted through the alleyways like a fiend in the night, though it seemed as if it had yet to detect either of the Grailmen.

As they say, the wicked flee when none pursue, but the righteous are as bold as lions.

And so it was that our three lions strode forth, drew their blades, and confronted the creature with a measured caution. The Chaptermaster ordered it to turn, and so it did, revealing a most DEMONIC visage. Its skin was as red as hellfire, and its head was crowned with the horns of an infernal beast. The pair had initially suspected their quarry to be curseborn, but now they knew it to be something far worse.

Azdrazi.

At this point in time, Holy Ser Talbott was situated at the gates of the city, having been stalled by a misunderstanding within New Valdev’s customs office. Nevertheless, upon hearing the Chaptermaster announce the presence of the creature with a shout, the gates were raised, and Holy Ser Talbott galloped towards the scene.

As the incoming rider approached the Azdrazi from behind, the creature went to its knees, apparently knowing that it stood no chance against the combined might of GOD’s men. While the others moved to secure their target, the insightful Brother Leofred took a step back and began to scan the area for the possibility of co-conspirators lurking about.

But though the creature had appeared to submit, it had more nefarious intentions. Positioned at its rear, Holy Ser Talbott saw a glint in the darkness.

The Azdrazi was drawing a knife!

Before Holy Ser Talbott could even utter a word of warning, the ever-perceptive Brother Cassian moved first. He must have seen the subtle shift in the creature’s posture, for he plunged the tip of his blade straight through its throat. The Azradzi’s tongue lolled and its eyes rolled back in its head, making it appear as through its cranium had been smitten by GOD Himself. Then, Brother Cassian withdrew his blade, sending a spurting shower of red across the cobblestones before the Azdrazi slumped down to the ground.

Dead.

Marshal of the Order of the Grail

Date: 16th of Sun’s Smile, 2010

To the Faithful of Canondom,

While on patrol, we men of the Order of the Grail of Saint Lucien stumbled upon a deep opening into the earth, an ominous and foreboding passage. We ventured into its depths, only to discover three figures: an elf of Haense and a knight accompanied by his squire from Numendil. 

Upon questioning, they stated their business within the cave was spurred by the elf’s claim of having seen multiple shrines within the cavern system. Thus, united as one force under GOD, we delved deeper into the dark recesses of the cave.

The first shrine we encountered bore no markings of its allegiance. While thinking of methods to destroy it, the knight and squire departed to retrieve bolt cutters from Numendil, claiming there was a large gate deeper within the system. Choosing to remain as one, we held off on destroying the shrine, vowing to return for it at a later time. 

Guided by the elf, we pressed forward and reached a waterlogged segment of the cavern. The passage forced us to abandon our plated armor for safety, and by the grace of GOD, none drowned, though there were moments of peril. Emerging on the other side, we found the second shrine, boldly inscribed with the name of the accursed Azdromoth. Without hesitation, both the Order of the Grail and the Numendain brought it to ruin.

Continuing forward, we arrived at the large gate that the Numendain had spoken of. Despite our best efforts, we were unable to breach it. Undeterred, we scouted other paths, eventually parting ways with the Numendain and finding the correct passage. This led us to a vast chamber, surrounded by water and a ruined bridge. In the center stood yet another pillar-like shrine. With picks and hammers, we brought it crashing down, into the water below.

To those who worship false idols: know this. Your shrines will not remain hidden. They will be uncovered and destroyed, for there is no greater than GOD Himself. His light shines far and wide, piercing the darkest corners of this world.

This is your final warning. Renounce your false ideologies and embrace the true faith, for only by His light may your soul find salvation. Should you remain steadfast in your heresy, your fate will be eternal damnation in the Nether.

A Thesis on the Importance of Charity

An Introduction

On the roadside, I observe a beggar - a man without name or fortune, his spirit seemingly broken, and his demeanor unwelcoming. He is, to many, an uncomfortable sight. Unlike most of our community who work diligently in the fields or, like Ser Delbert, tend to the bees, this man appears to offer nothing. Some might argue he is a weight upon us, draining our resources without contributing. Why would we honor such a wretch with charity? 

To answer this question, we must look to the Scroll of Virtue, given to Horen by God. I, Brother Renwick, will guide you on the answers I found in this reading.

The Virtue of Charity

To understand the importance of charity, we must look to God, the Almighty Creator, who has graced us with the Earth and its countless gifts. he states: "I am the lord God without peer; my abundance is the holy abundance, My wealth the virtuous wealth, and all the blessings of the Virtue shall fall before the righteous who share it." (Virtue 1:11) This profound declaration reveals that God is the ultimate embodiment of charity, and as His followers, we are called to reflect His goodness in our lives. By extending our hands to those in need, we not only uplift them but also elevate our own spirits, becoming better individuals in the process. Through our acts of charity, we invite blessings upon ourselves and nurture a spirit of generosity that enriches both our lives and those around us. Thus, embracing charity is not just a duty but a divine opportunity for growth and fulfillment.

Our charity should encompass more than just material gifts like alms or money; it should also embody the richness of the spirit. "And so I have placed into your hearts the blessings of abundance: the virtuous wealth of the spirit. And as I have given to you this blessing of My Word, you shall also give unto your fellows." "For I have placed into your heart a wealth of virtue, and I have created for you a garden of abundance. And you shall give your fellows the abundance of spirit, which is my Word. For the abundance of the spirit is never divided, but multiplied." (Virtue 1:7-9) As children of God, we are not meant to hoard the treasures of our spirit or our faith. We must give freely to others without expecting anything in return. In doing so, we only strengthen our own spirit.

The ultimate act of piety is to forfeit one's ego and act in complete accordance with God. By stepping aside from our own desires and ambitions, we open ourselves to serve a greater good, embodying the virtues that God exemplifies, and in this state of selflessness, we can fully embrace our roles as the righteous and the charitable. For it  is in this relinquishment of the ego that we find clarity, as our actions become guided by compassion and a genuine desire to uplift others. We discover the profound joy of serving others and being part of a greater tapestry, woven by divine love. This, then, is the ultimate act of piety.

Closing Remarks

As we have learned from the Scroll of Virtue, it is our duty to be charitable because God exemplifies charity, and we are called to act in alignment with His nature. God has endowed us with abundance -  both in the gifts of this world and in our spirits. Just as we have received, we are meant to share with others. May this message reach those who need it most. Live in charity, live in virtue. God bless.

Date: 18th of The Grand Harvest, 2010

To all who seek truth and light,

Today, we, the men of the Order of the Grail of Saint Lucien, returned from our long patrol. Along our journey, we came across an ancient lair, one that seemed to hark back to the times when the sun was veiled by the Hand of Horen. A small crack in the mountain led us to an ancient crypt or altar, forsaken and decayed with time. Yet, despite its desolation, the air hung thick with an unnatural unease.

I commanded Initiate Leofred and Brother Cassian to descend into the woods below and gather wood. Upon their return, Holy Ser Raullin and Holy Ser Talbott set to work rekindling the long-extinguished candles, their flames illuminating the dark recesses of the lair. Light returned to the forsaken space, casting shadows that danced in retreat from GOD’s cleansing glow.

Meanwhile, Brother Gamu and Brother Henri shaped the gathered logs into the symbol of the Lorraine Cross. Brother Renwick etched warnings into a nearby stone, a message to all who might dare to desecrate these lands again.

When the cross was complete, we worked together as one, raising it high above their unholy altar. The symbol of GOD’s glory now stands where evil once festered, declaring that this ground is no longer theirs to corrupt.

Let this stand as a warning to all who tread the path of darkness: no lair of wickedness is beyond the reach of GOD’s light. The faithful will find you. We will hunt you down, purify the ground you claim, and bring GOD’s justice to even the deepest abyss.

To All Faithful and Wayward Alike,

We, the men of the Order of the Grail of Saint Lucien, were riding through the blessed lands of the Papal States, our purpose steadfast as we carried out our duties. Upon reaching the lands of Ravenmire, our vigilance was rewarded, or perhaps tested, for it was there that we found the Daemon-Lich known as Zarvoth. The foul creature crept among the lands, surely in search of its next victim, its malevolence palpable even from a distance.

Recognizing the foe, we prepared for battle, for such evil could not be allowed to fester in the lands consecrated to GOD. United in faith and purpose, the brothers of the Order; Brother Henri, Brother Laurens, Holy Ser Raullin, Holy Ser Godefroy, and myself, Holy Ser Vincenzo, formed our ranks.

The battle was fierce, yet, against the combined might of our brotherhood, the Daemon-Lich faltered. Each of us fought with courage and conviction, our blows guided by the grace of GOD. As the struggle reached its end, it was Brother Laurens, wielding his spear with precision, who delivered the final blow, piercing Zarvoth’s heart and casting the abomination back into the void from which it came.

Let this victory serve as both a warning and a testament. To those who consort with the Lord of Deceit, to those who prey upon the innocent and faithful: there is no place for you in this world. GOD’s light shines ever-bright, and His justice is swift and unwavering.

To the faithful, let this be a reminder of the strength we hold when united in His name. Together, we shall continue to defend His flock, to purge the land of darkness, and to ensure that His will is done. The Order of the Grail of Saint Lucien stands ever-vigilant, ever-faithful, and ever-ready to bring His justice to the wicked.
