The Government of Redclyf

Government

Redclyf is a Duchy, and is therefore ruled by the Duke of Redclyf. The Duke rules with the help of the Small Council, inspired by both the councils of the Kingdom of Norland and the Principality of Savoy. The Council will have twelve places, all referred to as Aesir. Five of those slots will be given to Advising Aesirs for a specific set specialty to advise on. The other six spots will be granted to promising fighters or military commanders who have proved their worth to the Duke and to Redclyf as a whole, known as the Valor Aesirs. They will function as a “Duke’s Guard,” or just an elite host. The last spot will be given to the champion of the Duke who will be tasked with their protection, and will be referred to as Shield of the Duke.

The Small Council positions are:

• Aesir of Aesirs - Second hand to the Duke, leads the other Aesirs.

• Aesir of Peace - Head advisor of diplomacy and politics, both internal and external

• Aesir of War - Head advisor of the military and military operations

• Aesir of Coin - Head advisor regarding finance, taxes, trade, and managing affairs within the town

• Aesir of Whispers - Head advisor of key information and intelligence.

• Aesir of Protection - The Dukes appointed champion, Shield of the Duke.

• Valor Aesirs - Six slots to be given to promising commanders and fighters.

Inheritance

As the title Duke of Redclyf is feudal in nature, the succession of the title will be primogeniture with the eldest son of the count receiving the title. If the eldest son dies or is not eligible, it shall go to the next son down the line, and so on and so on. If there is no eligible son to inherit the throne, then there will be an election within the clan to decide who will be the next Duke of Redclyf.

Vassals

Vassals who prove loyal to the Duke can be granted land within the Duchy of Redclyf. They will be expected to swear an oath of loyalty to the standing Duke and all of their successors. If they have men loyal to them they will additionally be expected to raise them as levy to fight when the Duke calls. All land-owning vassals of the Duke will be referred to as Hersirs, and they are eligible and most likely will be serving within the small council as an Aesir.

PREFACE

Since the dawn of this nation in the time of my late grandfather, Olivier Renault, the Savoyard people have seen many a sunrise emerge over the barren horizon of the southern sands. Yet even the desert can not always be bathed in sunlight, as hot and unyielding as its presence may seem. For the past century, Savoy has made a name for itself. Stories were woven and lives were shared, but for the past several years, it has been made evident that such joyful times are no longer upon us. It is as they say: all good things must one day come to an end.

However, my priority since my inheritance of the crown has always been the Savoyard people, and such will remain until the very final moments of its existence. The families who once served my grandfather continued on to serve my father, brother, and myself throughout crisis and turmoil. The loyalty of the good men of Savoy will not be forgotten, and the debt of their unwavering service will be repaid to the best of one woman’s ability. It is my vow that these great houses will not be left without purchase following Savoy’s dissolution.

This is my final decree as the last Sovereign of Savoy.

THE FUTURE OF SAVOY

I. THE CROWN

The crown of the Principality of Savoy will no longer be able to be borne by any man nor woman, in physicality or name. 

II. THE PRINCIPALITY

The title of the Principality of Savoy will no longer exist and cannot be held by any man nor woman.

III. THE INHERITANCE

All individuals who bear Ashford blood will no longer hold any claim to the Principality of Savoy title, as it will hereby cease to exist. Any so-called claimant will be seen as illegitimate and fraudulent. 

III. THE LAND

The lands that belonged to the Principality of Savoy and its vassals will return to nature and God Himself, aside from those few fiefs that choose to remain independent upon the land.

THE SUBJECTS OF SAVOY

I. THE MARGRAVIATE OF LVINSK

The Noble House of Jazloviecki and the people of Lvinsk will be granted land within the Kingdom of Oren as agreed to by King Frederick I. 

II. THE DAELISH ISLES

The Daelish people will be granted their independence to develop Daeland as a settlement of its own, separate from any nation.

III. THE LANDGRAVIATE OF ALSTREIM

The Noble House of Alstreim and the people of Merryweather and Alstreim will be granted land within the Kingdom of Oren as agreed to by King Frederick I.

IV. THE COUNTY OF FREIMARK

The title of the County of Freimark will be granted to Prince Johann Barclay, to be inherited by his heirs.

V. THE HEXER CREED

The Hexer creed will be freed from any previous contract with the Principality of Savoy to continue their practice separate from any nation. Their granted lands will become independent and securely their own.

VI. ALL OTHER LANDED VASSALS OF THE PRINCIPALITY OF SAVOY

All other landed communities will be granted their independence to pursue a future in whichever method they may desire.

As the more or less absent winter of the southern masses concludes and the Ashford Sun ensures more warmth to our territories we rejoice in celebration. Considering men and women commemorate with Savoyard traditions the Crown itself indulges in such. Therefore we pronounce the impending month of carousal that is Tobias’ Bounty, symbolising our own attainment as those blessed by Saint Lucien of Ulmsbottom. Consequently subjects and allies shall be sated with wines of utmost quality dating to San Luciano's years of production, and the one who prevails over all as the unbeatable champion of such revelry will be afforded respect and the highest regards by the Princess of Savoy. Furthermore refreshments of remote origins and high delicacy shall be provided as no wealth will be spared for the occasion. Let none abstain from the happening for it is a truly affair which cements the Savoyards as brothers and sisters in culture and custom.

A stale, oppressive heat lifted from the desert as the scorching sun over Savoy became cradled by the horizon and sunk to the land's relief. The night was unusually still; after baking all day the buzz and scuttle of life did not surface and tense quiet blanketed the hills. The great sand worm was dormant, the dancing vultures of yesteryear's gory rain hid, Fort Myrine slept, and the sprawl of Niseep was long dead. From the uneasy night came a breeze sweeping over the savanna whose cool brush jostled the sun-bleached tufts of grass, the first rustle in hours.

Overnight to some but in mere minutes to any lingering night owls a storm coalesced. The dim sky rumbled as black and heavy clouds crashed together and began their sweep south. The clap of thunder heralded a fine mist on the winds followed by a drizzle. Droplets became a spritz which became a rain which became a deluge. The stars were blotted out as the stormfront eclipsed all and sent its charge of whipping gales flanked by wave after wave of heavy rain. The savanna was blessed in this once-a-year drink but the sands had not felt such a gift in an age. The roiling darkness surged on and consumed the south where it wept unrelentingly and softened dunes, elicited mudslides, and compacted the earth in a slurry of silt, sand, and soil. The sudden monsoon was worthy of a hot and humid coastline, not this barren stretch of desert, yet it crackled and wept all the same.

With a crescendo in sky-splitting thunder and whipping winds did the storm settle in the short hours before the dawn. The gushing heavens tempered into a fair rain. The thrashing gales became a sweet summer breeze. The bleak clouds matured into a dreary yet charming gray. The earth drank deep of the waters.

Then, miraculously, it happened. In a slow and steady march the sands split as thin blades of grass wormed their way up to greet the sky and grew in seconds. Inch by inch, leap by leap, a subtle verdant glow from underneath the land itself sparkled on the dew of newborn foliage as grass and shrubs crawled across the previously wretched, baked, blasted landscape. The savanna crept its way south and filled in the lifeless gap. Decrepit and brutal, the sands could only shrink back in defeat as the grassland thrived.

Invitations

As the Savoyard people settle back into the realm once more, the people of Drusco invite their friends across Almaris to join them for an evening of valor and glory in the typical Savoyard fashion. Refreshments and energy abound, a jousting and brawling tournament will take place within the walls of Fort Myrine. All are welcome as we celebrate this glorious day following the conclusion of the war. May peace grace these lands for many years to come.

Myrinian Jousting

    To start off this grand tourney, all attendees will be invited to spectate or participate in a grand jousting spectacle within Fort Myrine. It is recommended that participants bring their own horses and lances, though spares will be provided when necessary. This tourney will be conducted in a typical bracket style with strict elimination. It is important to note that Myrinian Jousting is a unique sport. It is different from classic jousting, where competitors have free range of the entire arena throughout each individual round until one is ultimately dismounted. This competition is one of bravery, strength, and finesse, in which only the most talented man or woman will come out on top. May the finest win.

Hand-to-Hand Dueling

    Following the conclusion of the jousting tourney, attendees will be invited to partake in yet another competition of strength and finesse. This time, they are welcome to indulge in the art of brawling. It will be the perfect opportunity for a few inexperienced fighters to try their hand in the ring, and for those of higher experience to uphold their reputation. Bets are also welcomed, for the fun and suspense of the event. We do wish everyone, he who partakes or invests, the very best of luck.

A rare pleasantry occurs only once in a lifetime when 2 people, born of status and wealth, are arranged into marriage by politics, but find within eachother a lifelong connection… a flourishing love. After nearly a decade of courtship, Adalrich Barclay of the County of Freimark, and Helena Bishop, firstborn daughter of Ser Erwin Bishop, have began the process of eternal union in the eyes of God and man.

Wedding Festivities

Ceremony: The 2 of godani’s children listed above will be joined in holy matrimony at the lvinsk chapel in full sight of man and our creator who presides over all.
 

Joust: After the hopefully quick ceremony, attendees are to gather at the margraviate’s jousting grounds, where any and all knights or soldiery of renown will be allowed to make hate in throwing one-another off of their steed. The winner of this bracket tournament will meet with a prize pool of 100 mina.
 

Fisticuffs with the Groom: 

Of the crowds in attendance, a lucky (or not so lucky) man will be selected at semi-random to partake in a bout of fisticuffs with the groom. In 3 rounds, the 2 will display their pugilist prowess to all, and the winner of such a showcase will be awarded a prize of 200 mina from the Bride’s family.

Drinking competition with the Bride: 

Any of those with a strong constitution may, if they so choose, battle a group of contestants, including the Bride, in a feat of alcohol consumption. Be careful however, Helena has on previous occasion, bested King Sigismund III of Haense in such a game. IF, however, one is able to out-drink the lady-to-be, all winning participants will split a prize of 120 mina.

Guards will be present to ensure the safety of the bride and groom, as well as the Pontiff and all guests. 

The Joust

    Following the conclusion of the wedding ceremony, all attendees will be invited to spectate or participate in a grand jousting tourney within Fort Myrine. It was a night, illuminated by moonlight- she would pace towards Niseep, yearning to set her eyes upon Lucien. The Count de Bar had welcomed her, as the Ashford Prince was yet to appear. They curtly chatted, but upon her elder brother's entrance the Princess jumped from her seat in excitement- mimicking the expression of a dog upon seeing its human parent. Her red-hair flew as she progressed towards the other de Savoie figure, lots of questions were directed at him. Some answered and others not- via Carolina’s proposal they embarked on a walk. Words were exchanged, as they wandered. The duo had disappeared from the glance of the Count of Lvinsk and Niseep. A quarter of an hour had passed, then bisection of such, later an hour- perchance even hours. They returned back, donning weary expressions and watery eyes. Something had changed for the Heiress, she was enlightened- embracing the Ashford Sun, as her guide. Their whispers echoed throughout the desert mere moments ago, yet now silence ruled over the area. “I shall not fail you- fratello.” She murmured to Lucien, as he ascended the stairs and retired for rest. In hopes of seeking achievement of personal ambition and sense of completement, she had betrayed her home. Yet- she realised now, there’s no sod, but Savoy. The Princess perceived her mistakes- seeking to overcome such. Behind her were left the Simonists, whom she envisioned continuation. “Addio- Orenia.” She remarked, whilst doing some last arrangements in Orenia. She was a foreigner there- and Savoy called for her. So she jumped onto her steed, accompanied by few men and set towards the Ashford-blessed lands. She was bound to assist her nation. For her, there was no greater than the Savoyards. “Guide me, grandfather.” Her voice called the skies, awaiting no answer- but wisdom. The man she looked up to was gone, but Carolina knew he was with her. The de Savoie descended graciously from her horse on the ground, briskly scanning her surroundings as she had returned to Savoy- swearing that she shall abide there till the end of her mortal experience. The Princess planned to restore Savoy to its greatness, yet once the remaining Councilors had gathered her plans were struck down by proposal- them seeking to enthrone Remus de Bar or Renata de Savoie. She felt betrayed- she felt as if her birthright was stolen, and for what? For she had resided in Orenia and successfully had the Senate under her control. They did not understand her dream- nor vision. It was all the plan of her younger sister, and the knock-off oracle of Niseep. How could she stay obedient? She didn’t. Upon adjourning the meeting, she contacted mercenaries. Carolina planned to commit sin, by ordering the death of Renata. It was all going great- until the moment came. As the raiders barged into the succeeding meeting, the Savoyard tried to play it off. Yet, her red-haired sibling struck her soul with one glance. The battle began, subseqeuntly most of her enemies laid on the ground. One did not fall, the Prince of Savoy. He stood and dispatched all swordsmen, then he assisted his countrymen. As such was done- Renata gazed at Carolina, she accused her of this. The older sister was doomed- her prestige and honour lost, the things she most cared for. In light of such, there was no going back and she challenged her younger sibling to duel. To her surprise, Lucien stepped in as Champion of Renata. She knew it was over, but at least she would have died as Savoyard. One who never knelt, one who maintained such values of ambitiousness and honour, one who never surrendered. As her brother struck her, she endured- endured, and then fell to the ground, collapsing. “Plunge your blade, brother.” She uttered. “Be a true Savoyard.” Her complexion grew into a smile. Carolina proceeded to shift a palm onto her heart. “Do it- Lucien!” The sword dived into her body, blood leaking out of her. Yet- her lasts were heard by many. “AVE SAVOY, AVE DE SAVOIE!” The princess’s dying gaze directed at her brother, eyes leisurely closing. She settled on the ground, lifeless as her livid hues shut.

Henry, my son,

The day of my eleventh birthday was when I first stepped upon the shores of Almaris, disembarking from our Lorelei to marvel at the sight of what today is San Luciano. The inner workings of fate which were made familiar to me soon taught me that it was no mere coincidence that I shared my day of birth, the day of my arrival, with the birthday of my late great-uncle. What I knew of him made it evident to me, in time, that we were very much alike in feeling out of place in this realm. 

He was born in a world of knightly chivalry, honor and loyalty, yet also a time of brutal simplicity, and as these values faded through his life in the inevitable, complex march of progress, he fought bitterly throughout the decades to see such familiarity restored at any price. I, on the other hand, was raised isolated from the modern world in Fausten, and tales and vivid illustrations of this bygone age of heroes and knights kept me company and captivated my attention. 

I had already been robbed of the presence of my poor brother, whose saintly guidance once I outgrew the age of his eternal innocence gave me little relief, and within years of my arrival I was mercilessly thrust into a foreign world which clashed greatly with what I had believed of it. Beset by usurpers of legacies, whose lingering influence tore at those very few who kept me afloat and hopeful: my sister, your mother, my friends and electors, my worldview was ultimately staked on the pursuit of restoring an old bind of loyalty which I had secretly shared with my great-uncle. That torch raised high, which illuminates his marble likeness before our Castle, fueled the eternal flame of this belief.

You will know which banner I will raise upon this Saint’s Eve, hours after our talk, and where I will have met my demise along with my comrades when you find this letter. I am sorry that I could not look you in the eye and be earnest with you before we parted. I do not regret that I will have died for my Emperor: I once said that the least a man can hope for is to choose how to meet his death. God will judge my divided loyalties, understand in His all-knowing gaze why I made this decision, and, I hope, still find me worthy of joining those I had lost in His halls. 

I will understand if you disagree and spurn my decision, as is your right now that you are a man of your own. Though many will infer it, you alone will truly know where I had gone, and what you wish to think of it is a choice that now falls upon you entirely. Hate me in your grief and distress, if you will, and choose to harbor no illusions that my death was worthy and heroic; but know that I loved you and your siblings, and that I believed my sacrifice would free you from being forced to follow in my step. Our past should for you be no more than one of those heroic tales: spend your future going forward. You are more worthy of our charge, the Alstreim name, than I would have ever been.

The waves of the oceans shatter upon the coasts of Savoy and call for the men to attend to them. So, in the month of Godfrey’s Triumph all of the citizenry is welcomed onto the shores in front of San Luciano, where picnics shall be held and those wishing may compete in boat racing. To the most talented sailor, a monetary prize of 150 minae shall be given.

The so patiently awaited wedding of our monarch and future consort is bound to finally happen in the Sun’s Smile in this year, no wealth shall be spared for this occasion as the Princely Household prepares an extravagant ceremony and even more beaming ball afterwards.

To commemorate the recent triumph, we proclaim the ‘Tourney of Blade and Steel’ which is to take place in the grandiose Colosseum of San Luciano. All are invited to witness the spectacle and the gallant are encouraged to participate. Those who prevail over the other contestants shall be greatly honoured. Guests are required to wear garb of the deserts.

T I M E T A B L E

The Opening

Once all are gathered and comfortably seated onto the Colosseum, the host shall briskly commence the event. Firstly, the names of those competing will be called, subsequently announcing the order of the duels. Secondly, the Prince of Savoy shall personally address those fighting and deliver a short speech. Finally, the host shall proclaim the first duel and begin the tournament. 

The Battling

All shall be geared, if one does not bring his own armour and sword such shall be provided, but it is advisory to fetch your own and don the heraldry of your house. The duels shall take place in orderly fashion and conclude once only one man has been left undefeated.

The Finale

As the duels conclude, the host shall summon the victor, who shall receive the honorary title ‘Champion of Peremont’ and reward of two hundred and fifty minae, then the second place shall receive hundred and fifty minae and third place shall receive hundred minae. The closing of the event shall be announced, before which congratulations shall be extended to those participating.

We shall look into the past, remembering their duty to the crown, and celebrate their lives. Savoyards and guests are asked to wear flowers on their garb or in their hair. A small prayer will be given.

The city has now been freed from the strains of power, as the lands of Savoy have come into a time of peace. Prince Lucien I, Prince of Savoy shall be giving a speech in the tavern. With peace now settling on these lands, Prince Lucien I will take all denizens down to the shores of Savoy, where they will send off lanterns, making a wish and telling only one other person of what they wish. Prince Lucien I shall make his wish public, along with Lady Stefaniya vas Ruthern.

What am I? - nothing, without being an Ashford.

Perchance, I was wrong - I was.

Thoughts about the recent events circulated the exiled princess’s mind, she couldn’t sleep or rest. Her future was dark, she was scared of loneliness. She knew that GOD was merciful, she knew that salvation can be found through him.

The de Savoie jumped on her horse, without much hesitation. She was never a person to consider greatly, at least till now. The cold and fierce winds of the north blew her pale face, petite hands grasping onto the animal’s leashes. 

She uttered lowly, no pride in her. “Papa Fiodor..” Subsequently dropping onto the ground, tears erupting from her eyes. The juvenile faced the Vicar of God, who was a mentor to her years ago. Carolina seeked counsel and guidance, and she found such in Tylos II.

“I hereby repent to GOD for the sins and crimes committed by me, I promise to be virtuous and seek the path of holiness from now on. I shall work on my harsh personality and retract any false accusations made towards Sir Ulrich Lothar von Alstreim and the Reinmaren of Savoy, respectively pleading for their forgiveness.”

“I hereby affirm Lucien Aurele Ashford de Savoie as the rightful Prince of Savoy and sovereign of the Savoyards, respectively I support any of his actions from now on and place full trust in his Regent and Council.”

“I hereby denounce the actions of Vasileia Basrid and promise to not support any vile attempts made by her against the Crown of Savoy.”

WHEREAS by Malevolent will my sister has been led astray, and her quill found paper ‘neath the writs of my betrayers; Let none be mistaken by my intentions herein. I am a GOD-fearing man, and one that takes the bonds of blood with the utmost in filial piety. For my siblings, I would cross the world and face daemonica; yet it has been made abundantly clear that at least one bears no such feelings in return. To you, sister, I give this last mercy in light of your past kindness and our shared blood, though your betrayal was by far the most injurious.

Hear ye and let it be know that this day, the Ninth of Owyn’s Flame, 1858, for her crimes against family and nation of sedition, subterfuge, and malevolence otherwise, and until such time as she comes peaceful and kind, repentant before the eyes of GOD, seeking Our forgiveness;

For her betrayal of family, Carolina Luisa Ashford de Savoie shall be stripped of Our shared name, and shall henceforth be afforded none of the rights nor privileges of Our House; by tradition she shall be known as Carolina Luisa Ashes.

For her betrayal of state, Carolina Luisa Ashes may no longer style herself a Princess of Our fair nation, and she is to be granted no hospitality within Our lands.

The address of the Lady Regent

Chaos and bloodshed have rang true through the Savoyard people and tainted her legacy, tainted the legacy of those that she has stewarded and guided for generations. It is hope and the light that remains present within the true Savoyards; to honor what is right and what is just. These perilous times of our people and dissent that has been sowed has not gone unnoticed from the blood that has been shed on the Ashford throne. It is one’s merit that Princess Catherine Johanna made certain as a cause for promotion within the realm, to sponsor the standing one has in court based on their abilities and not only blood. She continuously pushed for growth and cultivation of the splendor and culture that the people of the Principality of Savoy have to offer. 

This shall ring true for the government which lords over the people, during the chaos and turmoil there were few that were loyal and stood steadfast against the traitors of Olivier’s will. The legacy of the Ashford throne has been made into that has been tainted in blood of those beloved by our people. The truth is to be unveiled and no treachery has been made against the Savoyard people or the poor manipulated Lucien. Blood of not only our leaders, but our people have been spilt by those who swore fealty to Prince Olivier II and the late Prince Olivier I and have now turned their backs against such for power. The truths of this situation are as established;

I. The Princess of Savoy, Catherine Johanna was butchered by those who support Prince Lucien.

II. The changing of regency, dissolution of the council, ignoring the will set in place by Prince Olivier Laurene Ashford de Savoie and Princess Catherine Johanna for the leadership of the Principality of Savoy.

III. The regency of Savoy has always been to ensure the crown’s will is upheld, that Lucien has had a chance to prove themselves as leaders for Savoy. Count of Peremont, Lucien Auréle has always been supported to ensure he had a strong foundation to reign, however such has been subterfuged by vipers within the court.

IV. The detainment of children, de Savoie blood, and everyday citizens while breaking neutrality is unethical, unnecessary, and unlawful. The attacking of baptized canonists has spilt unnecessary blood for the sake of the false-regency to gain power by using Prince Lucien as a puppet and murder of Vasileia's body double is acts that go against the values of those that are Savoyard.

We must not tarnish that which the Princess of Savoy has perished for- to unite humanity in the absence of others. There is a place in Savoy for all that follow the virtuous path and the Holy Scrolls; for Savoia is for the Savoyards. The majority of the Ashford de Savoie lines have come to this agreement alongside the peers and those that have supported Savoy throughout the years.  The time is upon us to put aside what differences there may be and improve upon the realm which we have been tasked with stewarding as the peers. We must lead by example, and not by a force of hand.

THE REGENCY, TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, DECLARES:

In the pursuit of stability and immediate cessation of ongoing civil strife within our borders; to bring about a government of the realm; in recognising the potential for further escalation by fugitives of the law:

The position of Chancellor and Vicechancellor will be abolished;

A committee will oversee all matters of governing Savoy until further notice;

The peerage will be assembled into a council;

Martial law will be established throughout the territories of Savoy;

Certain foreign visitors may be subject to screening.

ORDER I OF THE REGENCY:

A Committee of Four will supersede the Council of State, which is suspended until further notice, and will make up the following:

The peerage is summoned to San Luciano and will carry out the orders of Prince Lucien as the Council of Lords until dismissed. The Lords will advise and inform the Committee of Four on matters of government and intelligence.

The military will immediately assume responsibility over any and all fortifications within Savoy and may be given temporary quarters in any uninhabited buildings that officers should desire. Likewise, military tribunals will handle all cases of law except those authorised by the regent.

By order of the Committee some foreign visitors may be subject to screening by the military on entry to the Principality and the City of San Luciano. This excludes those citizens permitted unfettered entry via treaty.

The fugitive Vasileia Basrid is hereby stripped of her position as Chancellor of Savoy, and it alongside the position of Vicechancellor is dissolved immediately. 

On behalf of the Crown we reiterate that all citizens who come across Vasileia Basrid must apprehend her. We further declare that any who house Vasileia Basrid will be assumed to have frustrated the course of justice and face arrest.

We have reason to believe that the child Olivier Guy is being held hostage by the fleeing Vasileia Basrid and her followers in conditions we can only assume are degrading and unfit for one so young. We call upon any who may know of his whereabouts to contact the military immediately.

T I M E T A B L E

The Bets

To begin the splendid evening, all are welcomed to partake in the array of colours, culture and stalls of what marks the celebration of Lucien I’s reign. Many different activities will be on offer at said festival. If one wishes to acquire a stall for the festivity, it shall be a sum of 25 minas. All money made from said stalls can be kept. An array of different alcoholic beverages will be handed out during and after the festival to keep citizens hydrated and excitable. Citizens should keep mina handy incase of any products from stalls that may catch their eye.

 Drinking Contest

Think you are able to hold your liquor down? This contest is a test to see who can drink the most without passing out and or throwing up. All who would like to participate are given an alcoholic beverage which they are to down. The victor will win a sum of 100 mina.

Refreshments

This occasion will be decked with an array of dazzling light dishes all handed out by the indefatigable servants of Savoy on grand silver platters. Indulge yourself in the utterly delectable dishes such as roasted duck - in finger food form - accompanied by jellies and custard stained with sandalwood and all different kinds of palatable flavouring. Certain liquid refreshments will also be on offer before, during, and after the event. No expenses will be spared for this celebration!

A horn sounded out through the Daelish Isles, a time for a decision has finally come for Daeland and her people. A decision that befalls upon the recent kinslaying, political strife, and treason within the Principality of Savoy. Such a decision goes as follows; 

I. Daeland defends the Principality as a whole, not one side or the other. While internal conflicts continue to arise we will stand as the defenders of the realm against foreign entities. Whilst the Prince and the Chancellor continue to fight for power, the Principality is vulnerable to the outside world, therefore we must stand as a shield to their intrusion.
 

II.  Daeland will refrain from any and all military conflict within the city-state of San Luciano, and will refrain from partaking in sides that would lead to further kinslaying within the Principality.
 

III. Daeland does not recognize one ruler or the other, for the politics of the principality are out of our grasp, and have never, and will never be a purpose as to why Daeland remains a vassal to the Principality. We are defenders, warriors, and merchants, not politicians.
 

IV. The Daeland shall henceforth, as it has always done, accept any and all citizens and foreigners alike seeking asylum from any conflict should it arise and act as a beacon of neutrality throughout this turbulent time.

V. The Lord Mariners shall act as privy council to both sides upon request and offers itself as a neutral territory for the duration of the dispute, should meetings between both parties be established, the Isles shall remain as a peaceful sanctum in which discussions and agreements might be held without fear of attack or assassination for either party.

VI. Daeland maintains its friendly status with both Her Excellency and His Highness and their respective parties during this time and expects attitudes and friendships to endure as usual.

VII. Daeland shall remain under the conditions set by Olivier II and maintain them until an official head of state is solidified. Should any legislature or the sort be placed upon the Daelish up until the reunification of Savoy’s peoples, it shall be looked at as ‘Pending’ and taken into consideration for future endeavors of the Daelish populace until it is officially solidified by the final governing body of Savoy.

Savoy has been thrust into a fit of delirium upon our former Prince's disappearance, with hands from all sides reaching forth to lay claim to the crown. If there is to be a governor of our lands, it is the will of His Serene Highness, Lucien I, to name the regent of his own accord. 

As such, our benevolent Prince hereby states and declares His Excellency Ulrich Lothar of House Alstreim as the Regent of Savoy, with immediate effect. 

I.  His Excellency, Ulrich Lothar is elevated to Regent of Savoy posthaste. It is in him that the ability to act as Sovereign of Savoy, is granted, alongside His Serene Highness, Prince Lucien I, until he is of age to rule. 

II. His Excellency, Regent of Savoy, Ulrich Lothar, shall henceforth bear the distinction of  Lord Regent of Savoy. It is at his behest that he may distribute the proper distinctions and rulings, assisting in the ascension of age upon Prince Lucien I’s reign, in which the regency shall be in effect for two years. 

III. His Excellency, Regent of Savoy, Ulrich Lothar, establishes a regency council that will henceforth include His Excellency, Lord Commander Borys Jazloviecki, along with the Bishop of San Luciano, Cardinal Markos. 

IV. It is the will of the Crown that His Excellency, Regent of Savoy, Ulrich Lothar, and the regency council, may act unimpeded by the peerage and government and will operate the Principality of Savoy as he deems necessary until Lucien I comes of age.

V. The former regency council is hereby immediately dissolved, alongside all of their jurisdiction over Savoy. The only true regent, and regency council, are those declared in this missive.

WE COUNCILLORS OF SAVOY PAST AND PRESENT,

A number of us having served three generations of Ashford Princes; being of sound mind and conscience; having been privy to discussions of the realm for many years; having worked tirelessly in pursuit of the Savoyard State:

Do recognise the inviolable right to succession of Olivier II Laurene’s firstborn son Lucien;

Do declare our support for Lucien I as Prince of Savoy;

And must with grief condemn the destabilising actions of Vasileia Basrid, Chancellor of Savoy.

That we, having written the laws of Savoy, the constitution of the realm, and the Winter Regency, declare that Vasileia Basrid has corrupted their meanings and intentions.

That we, having written the Lex Savoia, declare that the Crown of Savoy is not beholden to those laws, and so Vasileia Basrid has misused clauses of succession reserved for citizens of the realm.

We can only assume that Vasileia Basrid may have had further guarantees of support outside the ranks of those loyal to Prince Lucien.

We can only assume that Vasileia Basrid meant harm to the Prince and his retinue by tampering with fortifications and denying them access to the safety of the city, palace, and barracks.

We can only assume that Vasileia Basrid has overstepped her authority as Chancellor. Whilst many of our number have always supported the Ashford Crown in times of instability, she is alone in choosing not to.

We have reason to believe that Vasileia Basrid would have taken these actions to suit an ambitious agenda to usurp the Ashford Crown by placing the poor infant Olivier Guy, the younger brother of our Prince Lucien, on the throne and ruling through him.

And so being of sound mind and conscience we levy the charge of treason against Vasileia Basrid for attempting to undermine the rightful succession of Lucien I; attempting sabotage on Savoy’s fortifications; attempting subterfuge to aid those who would seek harm to the Prince; plotting to use force to determine the succession of the Crown.

Being of sound mind and conscience we call upon all loyal servants of the Savoyard State to refuse quarter, shelter, and any manner of support to Vasileia Basrid and her followers. Any citizen should apprehend her so that she may face judgement by her peers in a court of justice.

THE SONS OF SAINT TYLOS

For many centuries since tribal times, the Reinmaren military and equestrian tradition has evolved and proven itself. Likewise, so has the Barclay Dynasty built itself upon the column of War since its founding by Baron Wilheim, ever since proving its efficiency in commanding armies and soldiers.

Two distinguished Barclays led the first Barclay militia during the dynasty’s beginnings: Wilheim Barclay, whose descendants continued leading the Haeseni armies as marshals, generals and soldiers. On Wilheim’s side was his cousin, Saint Tylos Barclay, with whom he founded the first Landser Corps, and whose sons descended a line of piousness and service to GOD and his Church. The two Barclay commandants, with aid from the House of Jazloviecki as lieutenants and soldiers within the Landsers, were able to grow the order into a formidable and loyal force, serving as bannermen of House Barclay and Haense during the War of Two Emperors.

Since those days, the two lineages of the Barclay titans have separated, and that of Saint Tylos found itself residing in the South, now being Counts in the Principality of Savoy. Despite the trials of time, the Dynasty, as taught by tradition, has stayed true to its roots, be these the roots of the peasant humbleness, or those of familiar relations and reinforcement of traditions.

Thus, shall the army of the Sons of Saint Tylos be founded by decree of Ernst Barclay, descendant of Saint Tylos and Count von Freimark, with the assistance of Borys Jazloviecki as Hauptmann von Freimark.

THE STORY OF SAINT TYLOS

While this virtuous man’s early years may have been unremarkable, it was the battle which consumed his lifetime that would truly cause word of his virtue to reach the ears of the masses. A man who came from common birth, as the War of Two Emperors sparked alight, so too did a passion to join spark in his soul soon after. Unlike his comrades in his lack of battle experience, St. Tylos would nevertheless pledge himself under the banner of Emperor Joseph I and begin fighting against the Pertinaxi-Horen dynasty. With little else but the armor and horse he had spent the entirety of his savings on, Tylos rode out to join together with the Emperor’s forces in order to face the enemy. Victory after victory marked the early years of the war for Tylos and the Josephite armies, and he found himself befriending many men he fought beside, like the future Lord Protector Adrian de Sarkozy. However, soon enough, the might of the Josephite army and St. Tylos himself would be put to the test.

At the Siege of Helena, the Pertinaxi forces won an immense victory and the Orenian forces a great defeat. It was here that the side of Joseph I would be weakened, as nations like Curon and Ves deserted the side of the Emperor. With this, as the Pertinaxi armies tore through the lands of Joseph I, St. Tylos and a small group of friends and soldiers dedicated themselves to an effort of guerilla warfare. While this would be unsuccessful in its greater goal due to them being greatly outnumbered, their self-sacrifice (as the majority of them died in this effort) allowed the citizens of Reza to evacuate before the Renatian forces attacked. In its vulnerable position, undefended by a wall, the troops took to the construction of an outer wall, yet the necessary supplies were not available for them to complete the erecting of this wall. Here, Tylos’s most significant miracle manifested. Before sleeping, the saint laid his cloak over a small pile of bricks. Yet, after a night devoted to prayer for the city’s defense, the soldiers awoke to an immense stock of stone--just enough to complete the wall in time.

This very wall would cause the Renatian forces to sue for peace, at which time Haense became a vassal of the Renatian Emperor. Departing from Arcas, Tylos dedicated himself once more to another army, this time Ludvig VII’s in Kalden. Though once again, his side would eventually lose, Tylos’s heroic actions were innumerable. After the war’s conclusion, and a lifetime of combat, Tylos gave up the sword and shield and instead dedicated himself to traveling the countryside, preaching to the masses, and helping the recovery efforts after the war. He soon passed after decades of this most virtuous work and after these years of the knowledge of his work traveling the countryside along with him, the Kaldenic people would claim miracles by the intercession of Tylos and soon this word reached his homeland. Here, he would be known as St. Tylos of Kalden, and his most virtuous deeds of self-sacrifice and protection continue to inspire generations; during the height of the Inferi invasion, his apparition miraculously manifested in New Reza, riding through the town on a white stallion. Therefore, the Synod has affirmed his canonization and encourages the veneration of St. Tylos’s noble example of God’s virtue: self-sacrifice in protection of others.

PURPOSE

As descendants of the Landser Corps, so will the Sons of Saint Tylos serve as bannermen of House Barclay. They shall serve as levies of Count Ernst Barclay and his descendants, with GOD in their hearts, so as to protect the County of Freimark and the House of Barclay. The ranks of the Sons of Saint Tylos are filled in with abled soldiers, all willing to fight for their country and for GOD. It is filled with pious men and women, all honorable, and all true to their words. To be a Son of Saint Tylos, aside being a levy, means that you are part of something bigger than yourself, something that fights for the living and breathing heart of Freimark, and the faith in GOD. Those who have sworn to be trusted Sons of Saint Tylos, may only relinquish their oath upon an amount of service years, upon which they are rewarded as true soldiers of House Barclay, and strong warriors of Freimark.
 

THE TENETS OF THE BLACK CROSS

Written by Count Ernst Barclay von Freimark, the following tenets were decided upon readaptions of old Reinmaren and Barclay tenets. All Sons of Saint Tylos shall keep the Tenets of the Black Cross at heart, so that they may be pure and incorruptible, so that they may have purpose and morals of steel.

I: Serve only your Liege and GOTT, may you swear to no other man.
 

II: Hold your faith, and if so required, be prepared to enter the Seven Skies for it.
 

III: Uphold your Schwur and honour, for it is the man’s word that makes him.
 

IV: Flee not in the wake of struggle, for he who flees and betrays his brother was born a traitor.
 

V: Fight for those who cannot fight for themselves, be the sword protecting GOD’s men.

VI: Respect your steed as if it was your own embodiment. The true Reinmaren values his stallion.
 

VII: Do not look down on your fellow man, for everyone is equal in the eyes of GOD.

VIII: Fight alongside your fellow soldiers as you would with your own brother, for they indeed are your siblings-at-arms.
 

IX: Be brave, yet do not throw your life away for naught.
 

X: Be humble at heart, and show obedience to your generals. Disobedience brings naught but ruin.

TRADITIONS

Siblings-at-Arms
Upon the emergence of the Barclay Marshalship tradition a century ago, Sir Wilheim and Duke Erwin Barclay introduced and reinforced one of the most important aspects upon which they built the armies under their command, this was brotherhood. The bonding of soldiers is not like that of mere workers, for a soldier fights for a cause, and a soldier puts their life on the line. The good soldier is one that can be trusted, and one who knows that he can trust his fellow soldiers shall excel in times of struggle. As continued throughout the Barclay Marshalship, the Sons of Saint Tylos shall also uphold the tradition of bonding within their ranks. All bannermen are Sons of Saint Tylos, and thus brothers in both arms and GOD, thus they ought to know to trust one another and fight alongside one another. They are to be brothers in both arms and spirit.

Equestrian Tradition 
Emphasising and upholding the already-set traditions of the Reinmaren, the Sons of Saint Tylos shall similarly put value into their horses and their equestrian prowess. All those trained to be part of the army shall also be trained to adapt to the skill of horse riding and fighting on the saddle to an intermediate level. The best of these horse riders shall be held to higher esteem, and shall join the ranks of the Kavaliers.
 

The Pilgrimage of Saint Tylos
Following the example of a more recent tradition found amongst the members of House Barclay, the Pilgrimage of Saint Tylos shall also be held by the Sons of Saint Tylos. The long march shall be held every few years or about once a decade, and the travel route shall be decided during its planning phases. During the pilgrimage, those who shall join ought to adorn black clothing, so as to signify their walk of humbleness in the presence of GOD, and a minimum of four Holy Locations  such as churches, monasteries or cathedrals must be visited. During such pilgrimages, as was a large one held by Duke Erich Barclay, a practice emerged where those who met the pilgrims of Saint Tylos were invited to join along, so as to praise GOD all together. Such practice shall also be held within the Pilgrimages of the Sons of Saint Tylos.
 

The Feast of the Tribe
Derived from the old Reinmaren das Fest des Stammes, or the Feast of the Tribe, it is a rekindled tradition in which the soldiers are gathered by their liege every few years in order to have a collective feast of revelry. The men feast on goats bred in their own land, as was the tradition derived from the chieftain Galim, descendant of the great Chief Hosha. The goat was used as the chieftains own signifying animal, where he wore a helmet adorning the imagery of a goat. As per the tradition, the goats on which the Sons of Saint Tylos shall feast will be slaughtered by them, for he who wishes to feast must first work their share.
 

Der Schwur
Translated from Waldenian, the Schwur means the 'Word of Honor' in the Reinmaren context.  The concept is based upon faithfulness toward one's word in the form of loyalty or as an allegiance guarantee. The Schwur contains mores toward obligations to the family and, a friend, and the army, the demand to have internal commitment, loyalty and solidarity when conducting oneself with others and secrecy in relation to outsiders. All Sons of Saint Tylos shall hold their Schwur, and be true to their word, which they shall hold sacred.

Der Kommandant des Schwarzen Kreuzes / The Commander of the Black Cross

The title of the Commander of the Black Cross shall be held by the Barclay in charge of the army. All the Sons of Saint Tylos answer to the Commander, who delegates work between them, overseeing training and infrastructure as well as delegating work between officers. The Commander of the Black Cross shall be a title held by the Count von Freimark himself, who shall pass it to his heir, so that the young may follow the footsteps of the old, and thus gain their own experience in leading an army.

The Hauptmann is the right hand man of the Commander, and is appointed by him. He shall ensure the appointment and recruitment of Lieutenants within the bannermen. The Hauptmann leads in battle if all the companies are participating, doing so upon the request or the absence of the Kommandant.
 

Der Leutnant / The Lieutenant

The Leutnant is the last officer rank within the Landsers, being entrusted with a company of their own with about five Bannermen. The Leutnant answers only to the Hauptmann and the Kommandant, and also gives them advice. They lead in battle if they have their own company is involved, however, upon the presence of the Hauptmann, their role may be changed depending on the battle. The Leutnants are in charge of leading day-to-day training, making the soldiers battle-ready. For a Landser to become a Leutnant, they have to show interest and initiation for such, they shall hold trainings, and aid the army during their trial phase.

With its name derived from the original Barclay Landsers, the Landsers of the Sons of Saint Tylos are the distinguished warriors and soldiers between their brothers. All bannermen should aspire to emulate the image of the Landser. The Landser has served the realm and the Barclay family well, and as a result is in line for promotion to be a Hauptmann. The Landser is in the frontline as a deadly soldier with might. Although it is not a requirement for all Landsers, those of the rank may act as officers and leaders of the Bannermen, granted they wish to do so, adding more utility to the rank.

The bannerman is the backbone of the Sons of Saint Tylos , being an oathed soldier for GOD, Realm and the Barclays. All Bannermen are expected to have some degree of experience within the army, as well as some battle experience. They pour their body and their soul into their craft, and are proven members of the community. Only after having shown dedication and presence within the army may a Novitiate be elevated to the rank of the Bannerman through taking the Oath of Saint Tylos

The Novitiates is the essential backbone of the Sons of Saint Tylos, for it makes up the initiates, the fresh faces who will achieve and rise through the ranks. The Novitiates are men yet to be oathed, thus they train daily, attend battles within companies under the watchful eye of the commanders.
 

SPECIALIZED RANKS

Trumpeter / Trompeter

The Trompeter is the representative of his army, carrying a brass trumpet to the battle. The Trompeter is responsible for announcing the entrance and exit of a particular company, playing the company’s selected anthem. It is chosen among particularly talented bannermen, to represent their comrades.

Medisch / Medic
The Medisch is an essential for any company within the Corps. Being a trained physician, the medisch ensures that the wounded comrades are taken care of, with their wounds dressed and their illnesses tended. The medisch also does the sideline job of ensuring all the basic physical needs of their comrades are met, such as nourishment and water and shelter.
 

Schmied / Smith
The Schmied of the army serves as the backbone of the forging of the military equipment. They are in charge of forging arms and armour for the army, and they are paid and rewarded accordingly. More than one Schmied can be part of the army, however he in charge of the subdivision is called the Meisterschmied von Freimark.
 

Kavalier / Cavalier

Carrying out the equestrian tradition initiated in the first Landser company and the beginnings of House Barclay, so will the Sons of Saint Tylos put heavy importance on the establishment of a good cavalry force. Those horsemen of the army shall be dubbed Kavalier, and he in charge of them all shall be named the Masterkavalier von Freimark.

Kaplan / Chaplain

Assigned as a direct representative of the church within the bannermen, the Chaplain is a priest, enlisted as a Son of Saint Tylos or not, whose aim is to further increase the relation of the bannermen with the church. They serve as spiritual guides, leaders in collective prayer and during the pilgrimages, and also as catechists for the Novitiates who are yet to convert to Canonism.

THE OATH OF SAINT TYLOS

Any man wishing to bear the title as a Son of Saint Tylos must swear an oath in a ceremony, in the presence of a Lieutenant or above, within sight of the Barclay blade, the Black Cross, a banner of Freimark, and a Lorraine cross.

MEDALS AND HONOURS

The Black Cross
Awarded to those who have shown distinguished service to the levy, for exceptional leadership in the yoke of the enemy, and sacrifice in the process of achieving goals.

Saint Tylos’ Cross
Awarded to those who have shown extended diligence in their service, just as Saint Tylos had shown. The recipient would have poured their life and soul into the preservation of the Tenets of the Black Cross, for being bestowed upon Saint Tylos’s Cross requires such.
 

Blessed Nicolas’ Cross
Awarded to soldiers who have shown dedication to GOD and faith, the Cross of Blessed Nicolas is given in honor of Holy Sir Nicolas Barclay, who laid down his life in service of GOD and church during the massacre of Saint Heinrik. As such, those Sons of Saint Tylos who have shown utmost dedication to aiding the faith shall be awarded the Cross of Blessed Nicolas.
 

Landser Cross of Honour
For those who have sustained injuries in the field of battle serving for their Count and Prince, The Landser Cross of Honour is awarded.
 

Erwinian Medal
Awarded to those soldiers who have greatly aided the recruitment drive and the bringing of new novitiates to the army. The Erwinian Medal is named so in honor of Marshal Erwin Barclay, who during his tenure showed excellence in military recruitment and retention of soldiers.
 

Medal of Sir Wilheim
Named after the founder of House Barclay, the Medal of Sir Wilheim is awarded to those who have shown outstanding service and skill as horse riders, and the best of those awarded this medal are named Meisterkavalier von Freimark, Master cavalier of Freimark. The medal portrays a cavalier on his horse with his sword raised.
 

The Brandtian Hammer
Awarded to those who have served the army by providing arms, armour and other military equipment. It is named after the first and renowned Barclay smith, Ser Brandt, who during his life forged many a sword, axe and mace for warriors and armies.
 

The Reinmaren Ribbon
Awarded to those who have adapted the Reinmaren culture during their time of service, and aided its cultural expansion.
 

The Barclay Ribbon
Awarded to those soldiers who have served the House of Barclay exceptionally well. Be it through different types of extensive aiding, saving a Barclay noble’s life, or any other sort of dedication shown towards the House specifically, these soldiers are rewarded the Barclay Ribbon, and dubbed great allies of House Barclay.

THE RATIONAL AGREEMENT

3rd of Owyn’s Flame, 1857

I - The Ferrymen and the Principality of Savoy formally enter a pact of non-aggression. The pact will last for a duration of ten years. After the expiration of this pact, a renewal may be negotiated.

II - Signing parties refrain from participating in any conflicts that put them at odds with one another.

III - The Ferrymen do promise to not impede or harass residents of the Principality of Savoy, and members of the Ferrymen are protected while in the Principality of Savoy’s territories so long as they act within the laws of the respective realm.

IV - The Ferrymen recognises Prince Lucien I as rightful ruler of the Principality of Savoy. 

V - The Ferrymen will receive a tax exempt location to sell their wares within the city of San Luciano.
