Mission of the Institution

The Princes’ Institution, so named for the good Princes Edward and Cecily of Alba, standeth as a beacon of learning and virtue within the Archduchy of Alba, devoted to the framing of the minds and spirits of all youth, as well of noble blood as of the commoner sort. With due reverence to the ancient customs and wisdom of the Empire, we endeavor to fashion learned hearts and constant minds, that they may increase in knowledge, honor, and service. By diligent study and comely conference, we prepare this next generation to maintain the laws, the faith, and the glory of our Realm, assuring the prosperity and concord of our people for as long as sun and moon endure.

The Academic System

This Institution useth the free disposition and inquisitive spirits of her students, to set forth the power and price of the written word, and of that knowledge which thereby is offered. The students must find the might within themselves to bring their learning to completion, so that they may purchase for themselves a brighter fortune.

Such students as hail from the Archduchy of Alba must complete two terms in all ere they may graduate from the Institution. Each term containeth two years, or two Saint-weeks, so students must abide at the Princes’ Institution the full space of  four years at the least, before they may receive their diploma. Moreover they must complete such assignments and tasks as are given to them according to their desired degree, whereof more ample detail is given hereafter in this missive. Together with the required assignments, every student must attend at the least one elective lecture in every term. If any student desireth a higher degree, but still awaiteth the approval of their Bachelor’s degree, they may send a special request for the hastening thereof unto the Headmaster or Master-Scholar, by letter or by personal attendance.

Enrollment at the Institution shall cost the family not above 25 mina for each child. This sum shall not go to line the purses of those that are entrusted with the charge thereof, but shall be employed to buy supplies, books, and other provisions such as the examiners or students shall need.

Graduation

Graduation from the Princes’ Institution is both an academic step and a mark of singular achievement. The scholars are tried by their daily bearing in study and exercise, as well as by the examinations enjoined them at the end of their course. To be held fit for graduation, every student is bound to accomplish the tasks and assignments set down by the Headmaster or the Examiners. These trials may be in writing or in bodily exercise, according to the courses wherein the student hath been trained. The last and full assessment of each student must be allowed and sealed either by the Headmaster or by the said Examiners.

There are three degrees in all: Bachelor, Licentiate, and Master. Every student may propose unto themselves which degree they desire to attain. Whoso is minded to a higher degree must seek to be taken as apprentice or ward unto some present Master in that faculty which they affect. For example, if one desireth to be created Master of Diplomacy, one must address oneself unto a Master of Diplomacy, and pray to be received as their apprentice or ward.

Bachelors- Students must complete the basic personal study and reflection assignment given to them by the institution and attend at least one elective lecture per term.

Licentiate- Once the students Bachelor degree is complete and if they wish to obtain a higher level they must complete another assignment dependent on their track. These degree assignments focus on public application, leadership and the responsibility of the student. This degree is not limited 

Masters- Once the students Bachelor and Licentiate degree are completed and if they wish to move onto a Master’s degree they must be sponsored by a recognized Master in their field, OR an advisor approved by the Headmaster or Master-Scholar. They must complete a task given to them by their sponsor that contributed to the wellbeing of the Institution, Realm or Faith.

History

This foundational course inviteth the students to search and unfold the history of their own house and kin. History is not only a study of things past, but a contemplation of how the past fashions our future; it is what defineth us, and that which little by little doth work to change us.

Theology

Theology is the study of GOD, of his Saints, of divinity, and of religious beliefs. It searcheth into the state of Nature, and into the manner of GOD’s dealing with the world.

Courtly Etiquette

A study of seemly conduct in noble halls, teaching the refined use of manners, polished speech, and the arts of attire and social grace, suited for attendance in the Imperial Court.

Diplomacy

This course beareth upon the art of statesmanship and the delicate craft of negotiation. The scholars shall study the fashions of courtly intercourse, the framing of treaties, and the practice of embassage both in times of peace and war. By word and wit, they shall learn to serve the Crown and country with discernment and grace.

Electives

While the courses aforeset shall lay the ground-work of this Institution, visiting lecturers are earnestly encouraged and welcomed to host and invite the students to be instructed in a variety of lessons, whether it be in the art of dance, in the laws and craft of writing, the creativity of art, or in the knowledge of the dark things that lurk within this world.

Every course hath its different objectives to be met before it may be completed, whether it is that certain reading must be perused and the findings thereof submitted to the examiners in writing, or that a physical examination must be undertaken. No student may pass their desired class before these objectives have been thoroughly performed.

Patrons of the Princes’ Institution

Patrons are households and families, who, by their liberal gifts toward the charges of the students’ education, and by the hosting of feasts and meetings in their honor, do cherish and uphold the youth of this Institution.

The Headmaster / Headmistress

The Headmaster or Headmistress is the overseer of the Institution, whose charge it is to direct the studious course thereof, to maintain discipline, and to have a vigilant regard unto the welfare and progress of all scholars and servitors within the same. In all matters touching the course of study, the ancient custom, and the outward carriage of the persons there trained, they bear the chief authority, and are to express in every decree and commandment the very spirit and virtues of the Archduchy.

The Examiners

The Examiners are the aides of the helm of the Institution, charged with the guiding of the young souls that have found their way into our walls. They have authority to allow lectures, and to hold and confirm such examinations as are desired by the students. It likewise appertaineth to them to keep a register of courses accomplished, and of the several courses and progress of the students.

The Guest Lecturers

Guest lecturers are those who desire to impart their knowledge and experience in any faculty, and of their kindness communicate these unto the students. They are not burdened with any continual charge of the Institution, but are received as welcome guests, so oft as their leisure serveth them.

The Alban Scholastic Fraternity

Though they be not bound in name unto the Institution, those that are of the scholastic fraternity, in honor, do help to frame and order the virtues and offerings thereof. And although fuller declaration of this fellowship may be read in another missive, it may be briefly be said, that it is a company of well-ordered and advanced scholars, endowed with several privileges and charges of their own, who bear true fidelity to the House of Alstion, and to the pursuit of higher knowledge.

Kaba Halcourt sat at the small table tucked within the school’s back courtyard, a quiet corner she had grown fond of in recent years. “This is no small burden,” she said at last, her voice soft but measured. “To care for a place so newly born. It is like a flower just beginning to bloom, beautiful, fragile, and there are always those who would pluck its petals for themselves, or crush it beneath careless feet.” She paused, her gaze lowering to the tabletop. Age had thinned the command once carried in her voice during her years in the Prince’s Army. These days she moved through the halls like a ghost of ink and parchment and constant work.

At last, she lifted her eyes to the young man seated across from her, Olivier Lucien d’Artois, cousin to her late husband. “I will not surrender it lightly,” she continued, tapping one finger against the folded missive between them. “Even in retirement, I will watch. I will ensure the ideals of this Institution remain unbent, its standards unbroken.” Her finger stilled. “Once this letter is sent… there is no undoing it.” She searched his face. “Are you certain you wish to bear this charge?” Silence answered her, and slowly, Kaba smiled. “Very well.” She slid the missive across the table toward him. “You may see it posted.”

She leaned back in her chair, releasing a quiet, breathless laugh one that quickly turned into a cough she pressed her hand against her lips to still. “I am,” she remarked with a pause, “officially retired.”

I, Kaba Halcourt, have come to a season in my life wherein I can no longer grant this Institution the full measure of time, strength, and vigilance it so rightly deserves. I offer my deepest gratitude to all who have walked this road beside me, from our professors and patrons to our students, whose faith and labor have shaped these early years. It is my earnest hope that you will extend the same trust you once placed in me to my cousin, Lord Olivier d’Artois.

There are few souls I would entrust wholly with this school. Yet, as the Prince’s Institution still stands in its youth, its systems imperfect and its foundations yet settling, I believe Lord Olivier possesses both the patience and resolve required to guide it forward. I am confident he will tend to its growth with care, restore order where it is needed, and fortify its ideals, never bending them to convenience nor to the will of another. This decision has not been made lightly. It has been weighed with care and discussed at length among those whose counsel I hold dear. I step aside not in abandonment, but in faith.

May this Institution continue to flourish long after my watch has ended.

The Commencement of the Second Trimester

Let it be known throughout the halls of learning and the lands beyond, that the Second Trimester of the Prince’s Institution shall soon commence on the upcoming Horen’s Calling

To begin this new season of study and enlightenment, all scholars, both those newly admitted and those returning to their courses are hereby summoned to the opening festival which is to be held upon the first day of the second trimester, within the grounds of our newly built campus in the Archduchy of Alba.

This gathering, hosted by the Head Girl and Institutions staff, shall serve not only as welcome and introduction, but as a celebration of the pursuit of wisdom. Attendees shall have the opportunity to,

Imperial Academic Calendar
Styled after many of the former academic institutions, the imperial academic system is the official conduct of this institution. It embodies centuries of tradition, discipline, and scholarly prowess. This system will uphold all students and professors to the highest standards of the educated imperial mind.

The Academic Calendar
This institution operates on a multi-semester system. Each semester being three saints’ weeks. There are three total semesters within one academic year; this cycle repeats until notice from the administration.
Currently the administration is open to students coming together under the instruction of a professor to organize events for the academic calendar.

Graduation
Graduation at the Prince’s Institution is both an academic milestone and a mark of personal achievement. Students are assessed through a combination of class participation and the final semester exam, which is why consistent attendance and note-taking are strongly encouraged, as professors are not required to provide written materials. To qualify for graduation, a student must complete a minimum of nine classes, typically over three semesters with a full course load. In addition to coursework, students may be required to write a thesis or partake in a final exam at the teacher's discretion, these final exams are meant to demonstrate their depth of understanding and scholarly growth. At the end of each academic year, all qualifying students participate in a joint graduation ceremony, where they receive a certificate of achievement. The head boy and head girl of the campus are also tasked with making speeches at said graduation.

This gathering shall serve as a fine occasion for students to make the acquaintance of their peers, to speak with their current or future professors and view the recent works of their talented peers in the art classes, whose labors shall proudly be displayed for all to admire. Tables shall be well-laid with refreshments and snacks while everyone takes a moment to relax, make friends or converse about the term so far.

Professors of the Prince’s Institution are compensated in recognition of their time, scholarship, and services to the academic body. Compensation is distributed at the end of each trimester by either the Headmistress or Secretary

Base Payment:
All professors listed on the staff roster shall receive 20 mina per trimester for serving as an active member of faculty.

Class Hosting Bonus:
Professors who host the required two or more classes per trimester with enrolled students will receive an additional 30 mina, bringing the total to 50 mina per trimester.
 

Conditions for Payment:

• Professors must meet the class hosting requirement (2 classes per trimester) to receive full payment.
• Professors who fail to host the required classes forfeit the bonus and may forfeit their base payment at the discretion of the Headmistress.
• To receive payment, professors must submit a report to the Secretary or Headmistress including:
  • Number of classes hosted
  • Number of students in attendance
  • Whether students met their attendance requirements or not

To uphold the standards of the Institution, all professors are expected to:

• Host a minimum of two classes per trimester for enrolled students.
• Submit attendance records to the Headmistress or Secretary.
• Maintain communication with the administration regarding their class content and schedule.
• Provide advance notice if they are unable to fulfill their duties during a trimester.

It is recommended (but not required) that professors share their lesson plans with the Headmistress and Secretary ahead of time for coordination and quality assurance.

Professional and Personal Relationships between Professors:

As educators and mentors within our community, professors are to be examples for the students, and are naturally held to high standards of conduct both in and outside the classroom. While we recognize that interpersonal conflicts may occasionally arise between professors, it is essential that any personal disputes, drama, or interpersonal conflicts between professors remain entirely outside of school affairs. Our mission is, first and foremost, to foster a safe and focused environment for students. All staff are expected to prioritize student experience and learning above personal matters. Any behavior that may detract from this mission, especially if it spills into classroom environments, faculty meetings or public schools settings, may result in an administrative review or disciplinary action.

Tuition for Children of Faculty:

As per the updated tuition policy and our commitment to supporting our educators and their families, professor's children are entitled to a reduced fee of 4 minae per core class and 2 minae per elective, allowing for a well-rounded academic experience. This policy ensures that the valuable contributions of our professors are not gone unseen and also eases the financial burdens on their families. Please do not hesitate to reach out to our office with any questions or concerns regarding course planning or financial issues.

If any member of the Institution’s staff be it a professor, guest lecturer, secretary, or headmistress fails to fulfill their responsibilities without notice or explanation, a meeting of dismissal may be called.

Dismissal Process:

• Any active staff member may request a dismissal meeting.
• A case will be presented before their peers.
• A vote will be held; a majority decision is required to proceed with removal.

We understand that everyone has responsibilities and lives beyond the game. The Prince’s Institution is meant to be a fun and rewarding experience. If you’re ever unable to host your classes or fulfill a role, please just communicate with the Headmistress or Secretary. We’re more than happy to work with you.

Dismissal should only be considered when a repeated pattern of absence or unresponsiveness occurs without notice.

Students of the Prince’s Institution are held to high standards of conduct, academic effort, and personal presentation. The following guidelines are set forth to foster an atmosphere of learning, respect and honorable behavior within the walls of academia.

Students shall treat all professors, staff and fellow pupils with respect and courtesy regardless of station or age. Students shall address their professors with respect regardless of station. Disruptive, rude or dishonorable behavior shall not be tolerated within the classroom or upon the ground of the Institution. No weapons may be carried unless given express permission for a relevant course (e.g. Chivalry)

Tuition for students is as such, 10 mina per core class and 5 mina per elective class. Tuition is due during the first year of each trimester. Payments can be made at the Institution, more details to come about where to pay. If tuition is not paid by the first week the students will be reached out to by the Headmistress or Secretary, failure to pay tuition may result in dismissal from class rosters.

Students are required to attend a minimum of one class per subject enrolled in to pass. If a professor requires an exam or thesis to be done students must complete those as well. If a student is unable to meet the attendance requirement they may seek an audience with their professor to discuss alternative options. Some professors may not require attendance to pass a class.

All students must maintain a neat and modest appearance. Uniforms are required to be worn while attending class unless given permission by the professors for classes (e.g. Etiquette, Chivalry). Uniforms may be required during special events or ceremonies.

Students found in violation of these rules may receive warnings, detention, suspension from classes or removal from the Institution, depending on the gravity of the offense. Continued misconduct may result in a formal review before the Headmistress.

Styled after many of the former academic institutions, the imperial academic system is the official conduct of this institution. It embodies centuries of tradition, discipline, and scholarly prowess. This system will uphold all students and professors to the highest standards of the educated imperial mind.

The Academic Calendar
This institution operates on a multi-semester system. Each semester being three saints’ weeks. There are three total semesters within one academic year; this cycle repeats until notice from the administration.
Currently the administration is open to students coming together under the instruction of a professor to organize events for the academic calendar.

Graduation
Graduation at the Prince’s Institution is both an academic milestone and a mark of personal achievement. Students are assessed through a combination of class participation and the final semester exam, which is why consistent attendance and note-taking are strongly encouraged, as professors are not required to provide written materials. To qualify for graduation, a student must complete a minimum of nine classes, typically over three semesters with a full course load. In addition to coursework, students may be required to write a thesis or partake in a final exam at the teacher's discretion, these final exams are meant to demonstrate their depth of understanding and scholarly growth. At the end of each academic year, all qualifying students participate in a joint graduation ceremony, where they receive a certificate of achievement. The head boy and head girl of the campus are also tasked with making speeches at said graduation.

Each class, when active, is divided into two sections to accommodate differing age groups: a lower division for students aged 5 to 10, and an upper division for those aged 11 to 21, ensuring age-appropriate instruction and peer learning.

Patrons of the Prince’s Institution
Patrons are households or families who honor and support the students of the institution through generous donations to fund student’s educations and by hosting events held in their celebration. Honored patrons are limited to five houses each trimester, this is to encourage the continuous support of education. Donations can be made at any time.

Those who desire to partake in the teachings of this Institution, yet find themselves hindered by the cost of certain classes or courses, may humbly seek aid. Such petitions for financial relief may be brought forth to the Headmaster/Headmistress, either through written letter or by requesting a private audience.

For organizational reasons late enrollment will not be allowed besides special circumstances may they appear, students may enroll any trimester during the academic year.
