t was upon the 13th of Tobias’s Bounty within the year of 2043, within the chambers of the Princeps Court, that hardship and hope twisted as one. For many hours, the Princeps Consort endured a harrowing labor. The months of strain and worry that had shadowed her pregnancy and each moment of the birth carried fear that both mother and child might be lost. 

At last, after a night of trial, the cries they had longed for did not come with strength, but with only the faintest whimper. A daughter had been delivered into this world small, pale, and frail. Though she lived, the room was filled with uneasy silence rather than celebration. In the weeks that followed, her condition remained uncertain. It was only after a month of careful observation, when her breaths grew steadier and her color returned little by little.

IN THE EARLY DAYS of the Ivöri migration, legend has it that an Ivöri Prince cast the last wheel of goat cheese down the slope of Altwegg hill after a rather harsh winter. It is said that the Prince acted upon his urges to test his men. The first knight to reach the bottom was then declared the Knight of the Wheel by the Prince.

The ancient festivity has since taken on multiple purposes, such as for recreation, however, the original meaning of the race still resides, nested deep inside the wheel of cheese. It symbolizes the Ivöri people’s resilience to overcoming challenges presented by God himself.

The Princely House of Keen invites both native Ivörian’s and foreigners to partake in this age-old tradition, the winner will receive a cash prize of 100 mina and the title Lord or Lady of the Wheel.

FORMAT

Prior to the start of the competition, a wheel of goat cheese will be prepared by Ivörian cheesemakers. A designated Cheese Master will be assigned with dragging the cheese up the hill. 

Before the cheese is released, contestants will line up behind a white, chalk line, which marks the starting point.

Once all the contestants are lined up, the cheesemaster will yell: “One, two, three – CHEESE!”

The cheese will then be released, upon which contestants will hurl and throw themselves after the cheese. The first one to cross the red chalk line will be declared the Lord or Lady of the Wheel.

Greetings fellow Ivori!

It has come to my undivided attention that Ivoria is without a Minister of Potato affairs. I humbly petition for this nonexistant role to be created and bestowed upon ME, the one and ONLY, LORD Peregrine John ALTWEGG. Why should you, my fellow Ivori compatriot, sign this petition you may ask? Because I will ensure that the Ivori people will never go without an abudance of Potatoes EVER again. pronounced, PO-TAY-TOES. Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a STEW! So I hope you can understand this absolute necessity of a food, they can grow practically ANYWHERE in mass number, which is VERY convienent considering that we the Ivori are settled on a Mountain, where not much can grow.

O’ FAITHFUL OF GOD,

THERE IS A SEASON FOR ALL THINGS, AND UPON US IS THE SEASON OF REDEMPTION. As witnessed in the days of Ex. Godfrey, the Lord GOD’s faithful have triumphed over the deceit of the foul Iblees. Just as Reynard of Renatus witnessed the bounty of the Lord, you too may come to enjoy his bountiful provisions during this time of upheaval. We call upon the faithful of the Lord GOD to join by our side, within the valleys of Mount Vindicta, to seek penance for one's SINS against GOD and his Kingdom. All that are willing to turn from their wicked ways and seek refuge amongst the Ivöri are welcome to partake in GOD’s plan for our people.

The Ivöri have suffered persecution by the servants of Iblees for many generations. Most recently we have suffered at the hands of the anathema who sought to destroy all that we are. They wished to pillage our city and erect false idols in the name of their lords upon our mountains. Lies, slander, and railing accusations were made against the character of our people and my Father, Atticus Keen. Many of the Ivöri suffered at the hands of these fiends and even died for our Lord GOD’s name. Despite this persecution, through the grace of the Lord GOD, we have thrived to the point where we may in turn offer GOD’s treasures back to the flock of the faithful. It is the responsibility of the faithful to answer GOD’s plan to aid the prodigals in their return to the faith.

No matter your descent, the only requirement to take refuge within our community is that you place GOD and his word first within your life. All else will fall into place. The Ivöri offer many things such as food, shelter, and a place to grow within your faith. You may be persecuted by those that you leave behind, those that cling to the dead ways of Iblees, but do know that you may have life abundantly amongst the Lord GOD’s faithful.

We not only seek out individuals to join the Ivöri, but we extend our hands towards families who wish to leave behind the toil & tribulations of the past. Homes and opportunities to work will be presented to all that come to the Ivöri. For the merchant, shops and stalls are readily available for you to procure your wares to the faithful. For those interested in lordship, land agreements & leases may be acquired to fulfill your needs. Within our cheese vaults the faithful will be able to produce their own cheese based on the refined culinary skills of the Ivöri.

Let not fear or anxiety cast doubt upon your search for the Lord GOD and let us assist you as you turn from the wickedness of the west. IRONY. There is no better word.

When we settled on Mount Vindicta, as a people seeking homeland, the world order created myth and  resistance. Remember when they created stories of us, painted us as evil and accepted any rumor as truth. When the cabals of the enemy colluded to destroy and root our spirit, we were seen antagonist. 

IRONY. They said that these Pontifical States would only turn into ruin, that we would be rooted out, tossed and turned, thrown into the dust and left to die with the Church of God. They paraded in their palaces and forts, in their tea rooms and balls, on the imminent downfall of the High Priest’s temporal authority. Recall when their perceptions even made way to Gottenthal, infecting the minds of our young who knew only prosperity and peace, making them question even that which they had not witnessed themselves.

IRONY. I ask all Ivöri to look amongst themselves, and question: what names will be remembered for years to come? Who paints the new world order, and who does not? Faceless and ashamed they will be when it is not them. Faceless and ashamed they will be when they realize their judgements precipitated their destruction. Faceless and ashamed they will be when they realize that amidst the mercy of God their culture is at loss and their people will soon disappear from under them.

IRONY. The Holy League will prevail, the King of Idunia will prevail, and the allies that believed will too prevail. Faceless and ashamed they will forever be, as Mount Vindicta establishes itself continuously a stronghold of the faith, as the legacy of the House of Keen remains a stalwart defender of the Faith.

O’ KEENSMEN,

IN ANY OTHER TIME, THIS NEVER WOULD HAVE BEEN. The Ivöri entered Tel Hochmacht, the christened Vindicta, as a gift to its people. From profane Earth we forged something Holy. With God at our side, we have prevailed. When the Petrans, Haeseni, Reinmarens struck upon our soil to sow chaos, we prevailed. In the end, as they face decimation or capitulation, we remain servants of the True Faith, the Holiest King of Kings.

I restored a homeland for my people. I guided, nurtured, and prepared them for a stationary world, and in our earliest months, faced a microcosm of bureaucracy, worldly affairs, and spiritual court battles. Yet, we were made for war. We did not arrive to live solely in peace, nor to become idle stewards of comfort. The role of Princeps must be distinguished as an example to its people, and advance before others in defying stagnant qualities and instead embrace the Lord God. Thus, as I prepare to rally against Iblees, I must rally as a warrior, a soldier, and foremost an acolyte of the Lord GOD.

Thus, I announce the abdication of my role as Princeps, to be invested upon my son, Henrik Aurelius of the House of Keen, over the next two saint years. During this period, I pass unto him all of the titles of our House, as well as the Divine Mandate graced upon us. The House of Keen’s lifeblood will never settle until it has satisfied its service to the Lord God.

May His Royal Highness, Henrik Keen, prevail as the greatest Princeps of our time, a steward of the Ivöri people, present and old.

LO’ for GOD’s good grace,

It is declared that the 13th of Harren’s Folly, announced that Sunnhild Alstion-Enswerp has been BLESSED by GOD and through our lords shepard, Father Keen, restored of her hearing that was taken from birth. Sunnhild has endured and been rewarded through trial and tribulation for her virtue. 

Amongst the Tavern of Elizabeth, under the Duchy of Alba did many men of Ivori convene, Sunnhild, along with her aunt Arya Elizabeth spoke to family and enjoyed the company of those around. Amidst the bustling of the full tavern, with several gathered. Father Keen hollered in the ears of the deaf girl questioning her capability of hearing. A hand pressed to her forehead and the Father began to pray—a wish to affirm something with the lord. 

His words reached GOD, so by divine will, it was deemed her hearing returned. Father Keen collapsed after such a miracle and was quickly tended to. The young girl declared the loudness of the environment. With the revelation, the Ivori return to the mountain atop GOD’s blessed land to recover.

A Premier Ivöri Altwegg Tradition

REJOICE!

The Altwegg Hill Cheese Chase is said to have originated in the late days of centuries old Ivöri migration. Legend holds that after a harsh winter, when food was scarce, an Ivöri princeps cast the last wheel of mountain cheese down the steep slope of one Altwegg Hill to test his men.

"Only the one who endures the fall and rises again is worthy," he declared. The first knight to reach the bottom, bruised but triumphant, was named the first Knight of the Wheel, inspiring a tradition that has endured for centuries.

The event now symbolizes the Ivöri people’s resilience and invites both natives and outsiders to test their might against GOD’s natural hills.

Format

Upon the start of the competition, a designated Cheese Master prepares the heavy cheese wheel at the top of the hill.

Participants line up behind a white chalk line, marking the starting point.

The Cheese Master then declares:

“ONE, TWO, THREE—CHEESE!”

With that, the wheel is released down the hill, and the participants hurl themselves after it—tumbling, rolling, and leaping in their pursuit. The first to capture the cheese at the bottom is declared the victor, earning the title of Knight of the Wheel until the next competition is held.

Three years ago I was presented with a trial by GOD. The fingers of my right hand were torn from my body, viciously, by the evil SIN of the undead. I was distraught, ashamed, and utterly saddened by my loss of digits. This was the start of my very first trial.

I know myself. I am not patient by any means, for it is a flaw of my being, as well as a childish ailment. Immediately, I searched for solutions and cures to my problem, but after discussion with Atticus Keen, and GOD, I was informed that this was, in truth, a TRIAL, one I must brave through with the Virtue of Patience. I was offered metal fingers by ELVES, and replacements by NORNS… temptations, all placed in my way to truly test my will and my Faith.. I graciously turned them down.

For years I had lived without the use of my mitt, yet I stayed true, and a vassal of goodness. I spent hours making wooden Lorraines to offer as alms. Many times I even forgot about my hand. I paid it little mind, for after these years, I realized I had put my full faith unto GOD, that I would be rewarded for my trial, eventually, someday. 

However, not everyday was easy. Some days I grew frustrated, annoyed, and sad, that simple tasks were made harder, and longer, for I only had one hand to complete them. The trial was burdensome. But my Faith stayed true.

Then, as the sun set ‘pon the beautiful wedding of Arya Aliston and Ser Meili Altwegg, was I blessed by GOD.

“BY GOD!!! IT IS AN AENGUL!” Cried Ser Arkel Wulf Vanfer Tor from his seat in the pew!

The Bishop Alaric paused amidst his officiating, peering up at the rafters of Temple Gottenthal. “What the?!”

The aforementioned couple who stood, hand in hand at the altar looked to the skies.

I stared up in wonder. Amazement- and for once.. Silence.

“HARK!” Boomed the Angel! The Church, the ceremony, fell deadly quiet.

“MATRIMONY… The ritual of Horen and Julia…” Spake the Angel, softly so, but his words echoed the halls of the sacred temple. He carried a glowing spear.

I had never seen something so beautiful.

“In the name of the LORD do I provide benediction upon this union, and too do I grace the proper Canonists of GOD!” And then, the Angel swept the air, his bright spear above us!

My hand. The wretched thing I had once been ashamed of, but patient as I had been. I was blessed.

My hand was bright. I looked down to it, to see that my fingers over the white hills of my knuckles were starting to regrow! I stared in utter mystification, shock, overcome by the MIRACLE of GOD! Marked by the Grace of the Heavens, ivory dancing around each digit, flesh and bone reforming what had been lost.

Awe, and wonder. My voice drew whispers, my jaw fell agape. It was wonderful. It was the most beautiful thing in the world.

“My fingers!- My fingers are back!” I remember exclaiming aloud, wanting the world to know of my blessing!

The Angel then rose to the rafters, in a blinding light! And then…

It was gone.

My patience had been rewarded by GOD, seen by Him. It was breathtaking. I had touched the Heavens and the arcane, and never will I forget such an incredible, extraordinary encounter.

I pen this to share my story, my experience of a MIRACLE, for which I shall ever be grateful.

In the year of our Lord 2009

“Like a fairytale from a storybook.” Arya resonated with Meili, her voice a soft murmur. She turned to the knight, the pair standing side by side. 

Such a bond, born not in the safety of courtly halls but amidst the chaos of uncertainty and battle; having met on the brink of siege, it was Meili who stood steadfast at Arya’s side. It was him who aided her in recovering her Niece, him who taught her to bridge the gap and understand words that eluded her, and him who guided her down the path she took. A partnership born from resolve blossoming into something more.

To the curious, their camaraderie seemed unusually close, their gazes lingering longer than formality allowed. Whispers accumulated around them. It was Arya, she who did not belong, who saw in the ever-dutiful knight a steadfastness that matched her own. And Meili, a man who’d only ever known comradery and war, discovered a tenderness and courage he admired so dearly in Arya. Amid everything still, the two remained silent in their growing affection.

“So we shall create something new, together. To build what will be undeniably and verifiably ours.” Meili held her hands in his own, smiles shared between the two.

The wedding shall take place in the Holy Church of Gottenthal, home of the Ivorian people. Reduced to this sorry, sorry state, the tribes of Horen fell to the sin Ibliz cursed upon them. They neglected the virtues in the cold; they fell to gluttony, greed, avarice, sloth.

And so, a humble priest, an ancestor of the House Keen that so devoutly leads your tribe now—one Saint Helveticus Keen, Father Keen—journeyed among the mountain passes of Ivoria. He went from village to village with a grand staff of the Septalogue: the seven holy virtues Horen was told to spread among his tribe.

So, Father Keen traveled from village to village, and he saw their hearths dark and the villages obfuscated in a shrouded, shadowy gloom. 'Where are your fires?' Father Keen asked. The villagers lamented then, that they had grown selfish, hoarded what little they had. In doing so, in retreating to their houses, secluding themselves from each other, the scattered Ivöri across our continent destroyed what little community they had in winter!

So, Father Keen gathered the people of this village, and of nine more for a total of ten, and he lit there ten fires. Ten pyres. He taught that each pyre represented one of the Sefirot—the ten virtues, ten fashions in which the Holy Spirit does reach the mortal plane. He taught of regality, of wisdom, of understanding, of loving-kindness, strength-judgment, beauty, eternity, splendor, foundation, and order. This is how the Lord delivers His infinite self unto our world.

And so, he gathered the villagers, and he did this, and he said unto them: 'My people, sons and daughters of Ivoria: when these flames burn brightly within you,' he said, 'your homes, your hearts, and your hearths will never grow cold.' Over the night, did the pilgrim, missionary Father Keen share his rations with every one of the ten villages, encouraging them to do the same. One by one, then, they came forward, offering what little they could. As the flames grew brighter, sparks flying in the night, so too did the bonds between the Ivöri.

By the morning, Father Keen had rendered the village alive with laughter, and renewed their spirit. It is in remembrance of Father Keen that we do then celebrate Keenmas, and we light ten candles in recognition of his pyres and the Sefirot. Keenmas is a time of joy and reflection! Should your pyre, your candle, falter and fall unlit, you will reflect. So send your sons, send your daughters, send your children to light, and inspire unto them virtue, as Father Keen did unto the Ivöri so long ago.

The Lord works in mysterious ways. I have heard whispers, for one, that He has kept Father Keen on this plane, to continue his purpose of virtue-remembrance. To give, and gift the fruit of virtue, which is unyielding, to all those who light candles for him. But, should he not come, it is you—no, us! All of us, who must give.

It is the light of Father Keenmas that can guide us through the harshest of winters, and so. I hope it will guide you all this winter.”

The Ghouls Who Struck

The snow had yet to hit the mountains of Gottenthal, cold winds thrashed still, and the Ivori people talked and enjoyed themselves on such a fine day of hearth and festivities. Amidst such, two Ghouls snuck through their lines of defense, managing themselves into GOD’s domain. With crossbows drawn, the violence commenced from the balcony of the Church in an attempt to assassinate Princeps Atticus Keen. Korporal Dovan pushed his Liege Lord out of harm's way. Sharp and pointed, the arrows flew through the air and landed in vain attempt. With GOD protecting, their strikes hit no one.

Recently anointed, Grand Minister Sigismund rushed to protect the town and its people. He sent a few men up to the top and the rest with bows to scatter and begin a counter draw. Korporal Dovan and Oberleutant Arkel Wulf scaled the stairs as quickly as they could; Sigismund held the defense and valiantly protected the city while the brave soldiers engaged.

Such evil met an ill fate. One was doomed to die by Korporal Dovan’s killing blow and the other escaped, leaving to warn about the strength of the Ivori army. Such incident has reported no casualties

A quiet evening:

Charles Reye was taking a stroll along the Ivöri mountainside, as the sound of yelling and the thundering of a horse echoed through the streets. He quickly rushed toward the sound, finding a beaten and bloodied Princeps struggling to keep his footing, as a citizen ushered him into the clinic. He quickly followed after them, finding an agitated Lord Lamention attempt to mend the damage done to the Keen’s gut.

1. A panicked relief effort

As Lamention gathered supplies, Charles rinsed his hands, grabbed some clean cloth, and attempted to wipe up the abundance of blood that had gathered on Princeps Atticus Keen’s clothes. Assessing the wound with what little skill he had, Reye gritted his teeth noting that the stomach had been completely ruptured, seemingly by a spearhead. Asking Delbert (the man who had brought Keen home) what happened, he was told about the Lord’s misadventures with the chancellor of Petra.

The assault had left Atticus harmed, almost to a point beyond care by the inexperienced Reye and undersupplied Lamention. The Ritterherr ushered Charles away, taking command of the healing, just as Julia, a ward of House Keen, happened upon the clinic. As Charles moved to comfort the young girl, a light, bright as the sun, briefly blinded him, followed by an intense heat upon his nape. He turned around, seeing the St. Messenger Archangel Raguel, winged and bright, stand over the pale Keen. He barely managed to utter a single word, as the heavenly creature spoke to the Princeps.

2.  A holy visitor

The rest of that evening was a blur for young Reye, the only moments he remembered being the Angel warning Atticus that it was his last chance, before mending his wounds. Atticus screamed in pain, a fire gathered around the wound in his gut. Then, just as suddenly as it had appeared, the pain wore off and Charles could see the relief poured over Princep Atticus Keen’s person, akin to a river washing away the day’s dirt and grime.

The Angel spoke a few more words, then disappeared in an awesome fireball. Reye, still too stunned to speak, only leaned against a table, taking his head into his bloodied hands. With the rest of the room reacting with similar disbelief, Charles found himself laughing maniacally, seemingly a subconscious response. He chuckled, thinking of his parents who were not so lucky as the Princeps. He laughed for his Knight Master and all the people he himself had hurt, for there was no Angel to stop him.

After this, the still blood soaked young man returned to his mountainside stroll, looking up at the moon as it illuminated his home’s cold cliffs. Only a single word came to mind: “F***.”

As he returned to his house to wash off, Reye felt an alarming and disturbing peace rush over his body.

Below, we walk you step by step in creating and playing your Ivöri character.

Who are the Ivori?

The Ivöri are a culture inspired by the real-life Swiss, with influences from the Auvergnians (French), Illations (Italians), and Waldenians (Germans), blending into a rich, multi-ethnic society. Despite their diverse backgrounds, the Ivöri share a strong religious foundation, with Canonism at the heart of their beliefs. They are monotheistic, with a deep conviction that God is central to all aspects of life. 

Ivoria is said to trace back to Alaric Keen, a mercenary commander who led a mercenary company called The Ivory Company in a battle against a Lich that had corrupted and deceived his people. After vanquishing the Lich, he established the Ivöri Creed, a set of principles designed to protect his people from corruption and deceit. Over time, the Ivöri people dispersed, adopting various cultural identities. They reemerged at different points in history, leaving their mark on the world. Today, the Ivöri are a mix of these influences, with some retaining stronger connections to their ancestral cultures than others. This explains why you might encounter someone named Luigi alongside another named Dietrich.

Ivoria is governed as a Principate under the Holy Pontifical States, with a ruling Princeps and their family. According to Ivöri tradition, the Princeps title always passes through the House of Keen, with the current ruler being Princeps Atticus Keen.

I. First, let’s choose a name.

Ivöri first names often have a melodic or strong feel. (You can pick anything from irl swiss tradition. Here is a good generator that does it for you https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/swiss-names.php)

• Giovanni, Vittoria, Luigi.
• Alaric, Klara, Friedrich.

Ivöri Name Examples:

II. What is your history? What do you believe?

There are many gaps where you can bring back your Ivöri heritage. Most people can simply claim heritage to the original continent of the Ivöri before they arrive in Athera, and say they were there the whole time. However, it is also possible to just say your character’s ancestors had married in with some of the diaspora over the time. 

The Ivöri are a deeply monotheistic and God-fearing society, strongly opposed to most forms of magic. They hold a purist identity, believing that simple, straightforward things are inherently right and true. 

III. How do you look?

Reach out to us (via discord or in game) as we have a lot of FTU skins we can offer. 

The Ivöri are strictly human, though there are some interesting deviations.

Hair: Ivöri hair is usually dark—ranging from deep brown to black—but lighter shades like blond are also seen due to the mix of influences.

Eyes: Eye colors vary, but dark eyes (brown, hazel) are most typical. Some Ivöri may have lighter eye colors, such as blue or green, depending on their lineage.

Skin Tone: Ivöri skin tones range from fair to olive.

Ivöri everyday clothing is built for ruggedness. They wear woolen tunics, leather pants, and sturdy boots, made for the alpine terrain. During the winter, furs and coats lined with thick wool are most common.

IV. What is your role?

Ivöri society is strictly hierarchical, with social classes descending from the patricians to the knights, then to the warrior class, and finally to the working class.

Your character's trade is up to you, but most Ivöri men are expected to be involved in combat. While some may pursue other trades, many Ivöri balance both roles, like a knight who also works as a cheesemaker. All Ivöri men enlist in the Ivory Company, Ivöri central military force.

Ivöri women, on the other hand, are often focused on homemaking and preserving Ivöri culture. They typically organize events, festivals, and cultural activities. Additionally, they play key roles as stewards and governors of the realm, ensuring Ivöri society remains orderly and intact. However, some women do decide to become combatants, so don’t feel limited in your choices. 

V. Resources to Consider

Potential roles and employment:

• The Ivory Company (military, potential for Knighthood)
• The Wunderbar (tavern)
• The Venetian Courts (bards, performers, event runners)
• The Temple/Monastery of St. Lucien (priests, nuns, monks)
• The Academy of Blessed Valentina (work as a teacher)
• Government (Aspire to government, both appointed/elected)
• Medicine (be a medic)
• You can also work as a steward, an alchemist, a bureaucrat, etc. There is something for everyone!

Housing in Gottenthal:

• Ivoria offers many different housing options, ranging from cheaper bachelor homes to larger family estates. Soldiers receive a free, tax free room in our towers. We also have an orphanage, and offer affordable rooms for a short stay in our inn.

Survival tips:

• Undead/darkspawn are closely roaming, and are usually very dangerous. Try to avoid them until you get stronger! 
• Outside of town, people will try to kill and rob you on the roads. Avoid strangers when you’re alone, and don’t wander with all of your valuables on you. 
• Ask for help! We all have a varied range of experience and knowledge, so please feel free to ask questions in our discord. If you feel overwhelmed or don’t know where to go next, we are always here to help. 
• Take roleplay seriously, but make sure you’re still having fun.

“Your Grace,” The priest began, raising his silver laurel, “This young girl is an orphan, forsaken to wander these streets.”

“And what do you ask of me, Father?” Atticus Keen inquired, his gaze softening as it fell upon the girl.

“She must be baptized, cared for. To leave one of His flock abandoned is a grievous sin…” Father John implored.

“A home and a proper name,” Holy Ser Vincenzo interjected. “Julia, in honor of St. Julia of Paradisus.”

Atticus Keen peered through the tavern where he and his men had taken refuge from a nearing storm. These lands were far from the familiar alpine peaks of Mount Vindicta. Yet, New Valdev, that Haeseni city, served its purpose.

“Take her,” he spoke to his company.“An orphan shall not remain forsaken among His flock. Julia she shall be.”

The group gathered as they pressed toward the exit. They had barely taken a few steps toward the gate when a sudden whoosh cut through the still air like a blade.

“Halt!” Atticus commanded, raising a hand sharply. Instinctively, he reached for his scabbard and unsheathed his blade, his gaze sweeping the surroundings. The group among him followed, eyes shooting unto every terrace in search for that eerie presence. Then, through the swirling mists above, it appeared.

The ground quaked and the gate shuddered. Looming high overhead, a massive, shadowy creature dove through the skies—a dark and towering form that sent gusts of wind ripping through the crowd. Its powerful wings clapped forward with a deafening thunder, scattering snow from the rooftops of the northern city and drenching the gathering in its midst.

The creature's roar shattered the uneasy silence—a guttural, bone-rattling sound that reverberated through every cobbled street and stone wall. The crowd shook with fear, even the boldest soldiers trembling. Mothers clutched their children, while fathers surged forward, determined to defend their own. The streets groaned under the weight of unease, the city's harmony fractured. A gathering formed—blades unsheathed, bows drawn taut. Whatever danger loomed, it would not go unanswered. The Ivori, sharp-eyed and steadfast, scanned the crowd. Among them, no native command of the threatened land could be found, yet Ivori, Norns, Petrans, Numendaiin, and travelers from far-flung realms stood united against the encroaching peril. At the least, a rider went off with the young Julia. She would be safe and home.

“STAY, O' IVOR!” Atticus Keen commanded the Ivori party, who made up the bulk of the defenders. Noticing then, that a larger crowd had grown, the Princeps stood forward. “We shall not abandon New Valdev, a city of the Canonist flock, in its time of need. Follow mine command!” 

“What… is that?” yelled one, for the Lord Vindacus to reply, “A wyvern!”

The group gathered near the city's edge as the wyvern above swung toward the castle. The Princeps gave the order: "RANGERS, READY.”

Rulf raised his arbalest, drawing it into aim. The Holy Ser followed suit, while others stood uncertain and fearful. The wyvern circled the castle ominously, but with another deafening whoosh, it disappeared into the sky. 

“It has flown west,” Atticus Keen declared to the party. "We will follow its trail and ensure its presence does not linger. These creatures are foreign to these lands, and we shall not suffer them to remain. We will see where it leads.”

“LO, IVOR! BEHIND, THOUGH SLOW AND STEADY. WE RIDE!”

Ser Arkel, Knight of Ivor, began forth, leading a prayer. "LORD, WE GATHER TO SLAY THE BEAST KNOWN AS A 'WYVERN', THIS DAY SHALL BE MARKED AS A DAY OF JOY, FOR WHEN THIS BEAST FALLS, YOU SHALL BE  GLORIFIED. MEN, WOMEN AND CHILDREN SHALL RETELL THIS DAY AS ONE OF GLORY TO YOU AND NOT TO MEN. LET THIS BE A TEST OF OUR ZEAL SO THAT WE MAY BE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT YOU LORD GOD, LET IT, LET IT BE A LESSON OF YOUR GLORY! AMEN!"

"AMEN," resounded the crowd, and off they rode, a force numbering twenty. Into the depths of the Haeseni lands, through the cold spheres that quaked the souls of the traveling agents. A flying creature would be a difficult find, though it flew west, and could swing back. The Princeps led the group around the city westward, over bridges, until they neared the sacred valleys and woods that the creature had wasted. 

It were the winds they watched, those whispers of the wyvern's path that only masters of hunt could discern. Trees bent unnaturally, their bouts trembling and recoiling from the dark winds of the beast. Scattered trails told of its passing, piles of dust and dirt wavered from the usual flatlands. Though novel, the group slowed their tracks to a bridge, where, across, they made out a bundle of travelers resting along a caravan. Among them, two painted dwarves cowering in fear. 

The group pushed forward, to find a group left to ruin and death, killed by some greater force. Some trekked forth to analyze the bodies, others offering last rites to those who were slain, though most reined their horses behind the two survivors. 

Those survivors, two well kept dwarves, stared forward to Atticus Keen, “Do you lead this rally? Name's would be good to start."

“I am Atticus Keen, Princeps of Ivoria,” he offered them, "A people sworn to that which defeats this wretch. Among us are all good men and women. Honest people.”

“I am Karl, this is Thorfin. We are researchers,” Karl, one of the dwarves, began, his words followed by a flurry of questions and answers. Finally, he revealed, “You're going to die, and it's not the Wyvern that'll do it, not in those woods. Those woods…” Their voices trembled. “They hold more than wyverns. The beasts there are not natural. A bear, twice its size. A wolf, thrice as fierce. You won't survive out there.”

The Princeps met their warnings with an equal gaze.  

“We are humanity–unbroken and eternal. Knights and watchmen, of Alaric and Vander. As Horen cast down Iblees, so shall we face whatever lies in those woods.”

20th of Sigismund's End in the Year of Our Lord 2005

'Tis been too long since a towering temple was dedicated to St. Lucien, shepherded by firm believers in his name and values. By God’s Grace did one of grandeur rise anew in the saved lands of Tel Hochmacht. Thus, on the usual Ivori night of prayer that we hold cyclically in his devotion, we call upon all to bear witness to the consecration of this monument—crafted of sacred stone and bound with holy purpose. 

We call for a night of belief, a unity of souls to renew both faith and future. Amidst the clamor of life's daily toils, prayer is excused and forgotten. It is our duty to carry the flame forward, and squash such evil convention when it arises. Together, may our actions renew the soul of GOD’s word in the lands and raise our voices towards the Almighty as one.

And, my brethren, it is under no other king, no other duke, count, viscount, marquis, baron, that we can find our redemption, but that of the laurel of Horen. The line of Kohen was one denied its true originator and prophet, Harren Horenson, that has now reclaimed its purpose.

It is crucial, brethren, that we do not conflate our purpose with our right. 

It is our purpose to serve as the firstborn, as sons of Spirit, as prophesied by the Exalted Godfrey, for the third Son of Spirit will be Harren’s ilk, but it is our right to redeem ourselves. It is our right to shed off the shackles that which force us to our eternal durance of shame.

When the True Faith conquered Tel Hochmacht from the taints of corruption, the land was stripped of its grace, desecrated by the hand of Iblees. Thus, when the Ivori arrived, they brought light—like a matchstick yearning for flame, the land crying out and begging for GOD’s presence.

Designed by the legendary Lord Vindacus, Architect of Ivor, and driven by fathers and mothers desperate to shield their children, the Ivori marched to Mount Vindicta. Their hearts were set on a divine promise, a homeland decreed by Horenic Determinism—a sanctuary for their people, untouched by worldly corruption.

The Ivori labored.

They chopped until the trees no longer stood, their axes biting deep into the ancient oaks.

They cleared the alps, chasing deer through frost and shadow.

They toiled…

Finally, they built—a city carved from the wilderness, shaped by faith and forged in the pursuit of the heavens.

Shelters and sanctuaries where love and faith would thrive. In these walls, the hearth burns warmly, and children grow strong, nourished by the light of GOD. Every sunset and sunrise is marked with prayers and meals, a rhythm of life carved into the heart of their settlement.

Foreword and History:

The storied legacy of the Ivory Company traces its origins back to the lofty peaks of Athera, where it was founded by the venerable Alaric Keen as a mercenary band. In an age when the Apostolic Kingdom held firm and the defenders of St. Lucien's way stood watch, the Ivory Company emerged as a bastion of faith and justice, offering aid in fighting off the daemons and witches that haunted their peaks.

Through centuries of change, the Ivory Company has remained a central force among the Ivöri people, grounded in the creed and traditions laid down by its founder. While it no longer serves as a mercenary company, its role as the fighting and defending force for Ivöria endures. Within a multi-caste structure of Ivöri society, the Ivory Company brings together some of the most renowned fighting forces of the Ivöri people, forming an army prepared to act when called upon.

The Knights of Ivor command the highest respect among the Ivöri people. Established by Lord Vincent Keen at the outset of his exodus, the Knights were envisioned as the guiding force for their community. Determined to preserve the distinct culture of the Ivöri and prevent it from being absorbed or diluted, Vincent formed an order committed to upholding Alaric's Creed. 

As such, the Knights of Ivor are held to the highest standards of the creed and are expected to exemplify its principles in every action and word. Such values include:

II. The Princeps Levy

The Princeps Levy scales Mount Vindicta

Beneath the Knights, the levy stands as a disciplined and dependable force, composed of men carefully selected for their skill and potential. Among its ranks, the Princeps Levy occupies a distinguished role. Furthermore, any within the levy are groomed for Knighthood, though their path is not set in stone. Working alongside the Knights while maintaining their own independent responsibilities, they guard envoys, secure events, and, most critically, serve as the primary defenders of the House of Keen. When battle strikes, they are ready.

III. The Jonesguard

STALWART DEFENDERS OF THE HOME

The Jonesguard serves a distinct and specialized role, focusing on the protection and oversight of Ivöri settlements and known areas of their people. Often referred to as a local guardforce, it upholds laws, customs, and the integrity of the community. Unlike the Knights and Levy, the Jonesguard is more ceremonial in nature, presenting itself as a symbol of the people's spirit. Despite this, it is often entrusted with unique missions and has gained acclaim for its adeptness in navigating the woods, forests, and jungles of Aevos and previous lands. Named after the esteemed House of Jones, a respected family among the Ivöri, the Jonesguard carries a legacy of honor and service.

Foreword

It hath long been known that the House of Keen art a people of GOD, favored and chosen in His boundless grace. From the days of their forebear, who many moons past was graced with visions divine, hath their path been illuminated. It was these sacred visions that brought unto them the might and majesty of a Grand Duchy, and with it, the strength to smite the vile darkspawn during the hallowed witch hunts of Aesterwald. In this same holy light, borne upon the bloodline of greatness—the blood of exalted champions of the Canon—we do now declare a revelation most profound: mine own son, the Lord Matthias Keen of Ivoria, hath been blessed by the Almighty with a Divine Vision.

This vision, as commanded by the High Priest of the Holy Mother Church and his venerable Curia, hath been faithfully transcribed by the Scribes of Keen. It is hereby set forth to be examined and studied in the days to come, that the fullness of its sacred meaning may be revealed, as GOD's will is made manifest through the passage of time.

A recounting of the vision

Sat within a room in the grandeur of Mount Vindicta, seat of Ivoria, the Lord Matthias Keen did see a darkness surrounding him. Yet, as swiftly as the shadow fell, it was pierced by the radiant Light of the Seven Heavens, a brilliance unmatched and holy. Within his mind’s eye, there appeared a sprawling city, brimming with joy and populated by virtuous souls. Encircling the city, a vast field of white roses stretched to the horizon, each bloom fairer than the last. In this moment, the young Matthias Keen felt a divine ease wash over him—an ease that was swiftly disturbed by a gnawing unease at the nape of his neck.

He turned, and behold, a monstrous black cloud descended upon Mount Vindicta, eclipsing the Sun and casting the city into a dreadful darkness. This foul cloud bore a thousand crimson eyes, each gaze piercing to the very soul and filling all who beheld them with dread. The great Beast within the cloud summoned forth an army of despair, its soldiers forged in the flames of Hell, flames that devoured the field of white roses and advanced mercilessly upon the city. As the horde swept forward, it spared none, striking down men, women, and children with indiscriminate cruelty. The Lord Keen, in his vision, could only bear witness, powerless to intervene.

But from the highest peak of Ivoria, there came a beacon of unyielding light. Its source: a Great Knight, clad in armor of burnished gold, gleaming with the brilliance of Heaven itself. In one hand, the Knight bore a golden crozier, and in the other, a mighty longsword with a crossguard shaped as a radiant golden cross. This holy figure descended from the mountaintop, bringing forth the might of the Divine against the forces of Hell. He struck down the infernal host with righteous fury until at last, he stood before the Beast itself, its thousand eyes fixed upon him.

A great and terrible duel commenced. The Knight and the Devil clashed, their battle enduring what seemed to Matthias an eternity. At last, the Knight struck a grievous blow, and with it, the Sun’s light broke through, dispelling the darkness and vanquishing the Beast. Yet, this victory came not without sacrifice, for as the Knight laid low his foe, he too surrendered his final breath.

Then, as if by the hand of Providence, a century passed in but an instant. Matthias beheld a new city, grander and more glorious than the first, rising upon the purified land. The field of white roses had returned, its beauty restored, covering the scars of the battle. At the city's heart, there grew a great white Tree, sprung forth from the very ground where the Knight had fallen—a symbol of his ultimate sacrifice and the Divine grace that followed. Once more, Matthias was overcome by a holy tranquility, as if the Creator Himself had set this vision before him.

And lo, the room returned to its mortal state. The young Matthias Keen found himself gasping for air, trembling with the weight of what he had seen. With haste, he rose from his bed and ran to his parents, determined to relay the sacred vision entrusted to him. Together, they quickly sought an audience with the High Priest of the Church of the Canon, that he might discern the divine message within this holy vision and guide them in its significance.

HEARKEN O FAITHFUL,

Long hath the path of exile wound before us, a well-trodden road for we who name ourselves Ivöri. We are a people bound by creed forged in days beyond memory, borne aloft by the breath of ancient promises spoken when the world was yet young. Through lands both strange and barren, through tempests of fortune and misfortune as bleak as night, we have carried this flame–that we are bound to no soil save that which the Almighty Himself hath promised us in His word and sealed in prophecy. Strangers have we been, yet never lost, for that familiar pilgrimage in the fires of affliction. Thus was it in the eons past when we first arrived to a homeland, and thus is it still. A people quiet, yet resolute, figures cast in shadow, yet pursued in the light of God.

Our rites have girded us as iron; in the high passes, our songs have risen like the mountain mist, a yodel of yearning unto the heavens. At our firesides we gathered in long nights, breaking bread in fondue as the fruits of our labor. We have moved bound as steel by our forebears’ customs, by the echoes of prayers that reach beyond time. For it was written in the scrolls that the path of those chosen by the Almighty is wrought in trial, that we are as metals within the earth, shaped by the blows of hardship, formed to endure and to rise.
