Based in Viru, the Ruffled Feathers Adventuring Guild offers opportunities for adventurers of all skill and equipment levels to prove their mettle, gather new and better equipment, form bonds with like minded adventurers and, most importantly, put their skills to use keeping the world safe from those who would threaten innocent lives.

How does it work?

The guild has five ranks in total, with promotion based upon the successful completion of bounties and missions. Upon promotion to a new rank, the guild offers the adventurer a special piece of custom gear of their choice to signify their rank and to reward active participation.

Ranks

Rank 1 - Ignition

This is the rank that all new recruits to the Guild begin at, regardless of experience or skill level. Like the phoenix on our crest, everything starts from the smallest spark of a flame. Members are granted access to all Guild facilities in the hall, including barracks, workshop and alchemy lab. - Promotion to the next rank occurs after the successful completion of two bounties or missions.

Rank 2 - Cinder

At this rank, Guild members receive their first piece of custom gear, denoting them as full and trusted members of our family of adventurers. - Promotion to the next rank occurs after the successful completion of three bounties or missions after achieving the previous rank.

Rank 3 - Flare

The flame has risen from a small ignition, to a cinder and now to a full-scale fire. At this rank, Guild members receive their second piece of custom gear. - Promotion to the next rank occurs after the successful completion of four bounties or missions after achieving the previous rank.

Rank 4 - Inferno

The roaring inferno is the penultimate rank of the Guild, and is awarded only to those who fully dedicate themselves to the pursuit of justice and glory. At this rank, Guild members receive their third piece of custom gear. - Promotion to the next and final rank occurs after the successful completion of five bounties or missions after achieving the previous rank.

Rank 5 - Conflagration

The highest rank within the Guild! Achieving this rank shows that one is the pinnacle of the adventuring spirit, having poured significant amounts of blood, sweat and tears into perfecting their craft and putting their lives on the line for others time and time again. Achieving this rank will mean members receive their fourth and final piece of custom gear.

[287SA, 24th of the First Seed]

The beautiful new city of Viru has been completed, pending some minor teething pains in the form of the still being carved statues. A wave of new faces, tourism and residences has flooded Viru's streets as many look forwards to the future.

The handing over of power, and the titling of Lord Basilio was unfortunately delayed, however, due to the attack of multiple darkspawn associated with the 'Meat Circus'. Intending to taunt the citizens for the death of one of their own, after a prior engagement - The Meat Circus was instead decimated. With three of their own being dismantled in a decisive return strike led by Viru's Guard Captain Darona Navino, Lord Ardeu D'Artagnan and concerned citizens.

Following this development, House Mendoza has stepped forwards in order to ensure that the city is safer than ever, ensuring that multiple medicinal kits can be found throughout - in addition to heavy aurum weaponry that may be used to combat the undead menace!

Multiple new bounties have been made available upon the board of the Ruffled Feathers guild, from the tracking of the Wyvern that have made themselves a dangerous nuisance across the continent, to the hunting of the Meat Circus, an illusive group of darkspawn that have made themselves prevalent within Idunia as of recent years. 

The Guild has focused their efforts on starting anew and expanding, as Viru turns over a new leaf of its own. With a far larger guildhall, a memorial wall has been erected to pay respects to the fallen guild members who were lost before their time and gave their lives in service to descendent kind. As you may have heard, we have been hard at work recently, and though it wasn’t publicly announced, many of you know why. We have constructed a new, larger city, for us to move into! Our builders have been hard at work, and many people have donated a lot of mina to make it happen. Those who have, know who they are, and have our eternal gratitude. These builders and donors will have first pick of the new housing, as will our court, and council members. As of writing this missive, the following court positions need filled:

In saying such, the following announcement is also to be made.

Darona Navino (DBird2) has been promoted to Capitan. We are more than pleased to welcome her to the council, and have faith in her ability to lead La Guardia, and keep Virú safe. With her promotion, we are pleased to also announce that active guards of Virú will now receive a ten mina per year salary. Our guard force deserves a show of appreciation for keeping Virú safe, and we intend to recruit for La Guardia very soon. Interested citizens should send a letter to our new Capitan.

In addition to all of this exciting news, we will be holding an auction in the coming days, where you may name a street for our new city! This auction will be available to Virú residents only, and is subject to approval. The funds accrued will go directly to covering taxes, so that all residents may enjoy two years of tax exemption.

Look forward to that, tavern nights, and a festival all in the coming Saint’s week. A time to spend with friends and family, and to enjoy this joyous occasion. We cannot wait to start this new chapter with our wonderful community, and to watch it grow and prosper in this wonderful city.

A FESTIVAL FOR ALL

Rimaykullayki, and welcome all. We, the Council of Virú, invite you to celebrate the season of Spring with us. We celebrate this season of renewal, and give thanks to the Hatun-Kuntur, for our fertile fields and plentiful harvests. The Hatun-Kuntur, or the High Condor in common, is the god of the Tawantinsuyin people. The savior of our people during the Pachakuteq, the Sun in our sky. We give thanks for the land and its harvest, and we give thanks to the Hatun-Kuntur. But you need not believe in the Hatun-Kuntur to join us for this festival. The land is something we all share and should be thankful for, and spring is a time to be celebrated by all, not just Tawantinsuyins.

EVENTS

To celebrate this season, we have composed an all day affair of multiple events, to be structured as follows:

Opening Ceremony: [4 PM EST]

Basilio Quyllur Pachakutiq will introduce the event and give a small speech about its inspiration. From the people of Virú, to the season and the Sun, to the very structures Virúvians call home. Every piece has its place in the puzzle.

Stone Carving Competition: [4:30 EST]

Contestants will be given a block of stone (ranging in size) to carve anything they’d like from it! (Within reason. Anything inappropriate and you will be escorted out of the city. There will be children at this event.) Masonry is a large part of most Virúvian structures and heritage– but it’s also a great creative outlet!

Spring Ball and Banquet: [~5:30 EST]

To end the evening, guests will be escorted to the ball room, where a banquet will be prepared and the dance floor cleared. Those of musically inclined talent are encouraged to showcase such, and the stage will be open. Eat, dance, and enjoy the lovely spring time air!

Times are subject to change depending on when previous events end.

Guests are encouraged to wear floral patterns and bright colors for the season. We hope to see you there!

 🌷Pedroqa sutiymi Raymi Harlous Bishop, and with a little help from my Ama and papa, I want to invite you all to our Flower Festival! 🌷

We are going to fill the space with many, many flower, bright ones, soft ones, tall ones, and tiny ones too. Some are special to my family, and some are just really pretty, but all of them are meant to be shared and enjoyed together.  You can walk through the gardens, look at all the colors, and even make little flower crowns or bouquets to take with you (but please be gentle with them!).

There will be fun things to do like games, music, and small activities for everyone. We might have a little contest for the prettiest flower arrangement, and I really want to see what everyone makes! There will also be treats to share, and places to sit and talk and laugh with friends and family.

My ama also says flowers are a way people celebrate life and remember what is important, and my papa says they remind us to take care of the world around us. I just think they’re really nice and make people smile.

Everyone is welcome: friends, families, and anyone who wants to spend a happy day together. I hope you come and walk with us, share stories, and make something beautiful.

For many generations the darkened denizens of Iblees and his acolytes have brought ruin and heartache to the lands. We stand against this darkness, and though we are a city of many peoples, we rally under a shared belief; a shared dream. That our children may freely run and play, without looking over their shoulders. That our roads may be safe to walk on, that our beloved men and women in the guard may come home safe. A CALL TO THE HEART

Within these times, as conflict is strung high and all eyes are set upon honing their crafts of war, family, and country. As war rages on, festivities often take a back seat. Virú wishes to ensure such does not remain the norm, and to bring color and merriment once more into daily life, does Virú invite the social season.

Your title, your status, your riches, let them not burden your ties, come freed from the shackles of mundanity and remember; all are equal in the social season.
 

This social season's theme? COLOR
Come in any dress and robe that shines with brilliant colors, perhaps even with a meaning.
After all, does color catch the eye!

THE EVES

This festive will span across three saints days,
the schedule is as follows.

FRIDAY | DAY ONE | 03.13.
Upon the first eve, Virú shall invite its esteemed guests within the grand ballroom - where exotic cuisine from Tawatinsuyin and Hyspian cultures will be served, those with sensitive palettes shall be offered more tame flavors, as guests are called upon to introduce themselves.
Within the eve, the ballroom shall be cleared. For what is a brilliant night without music and laughter. A ball shall take place, a more freeform experience for those to mingle at their will as the night concludes.

SATURDAY | DAY TWO | 03.14.

Upon the second eve, Virú welcomes your return within the town square. Banquets await, with an arrangement of tables, our guests are encouraged to mingle with one another under the strict guidance of limited time, to open your heart to the embers of chance, as see if a flame ignites. Following the feast, the gathering of chairs and music shall be offered, for a challenge of finesse and cunning to be the final one sitting amongst your peers. Thus the eve shall conclude with a race, with trickery afoot. two legs entwined by rope shall bring a pair to union, shall you stumble or stride?
 

SUNDAY | DAY THREE | 03.15.

Upon the third eve, Virú shall host yet another grand ball, the final of its season. Within the ballroom, guests shall connect to those of their fancy. As the flame guides your heart, so too shall your connections last. The eve will conclude with another race, one for those most brave who wish to conquer Pedro, House Salazar’s Steed. Within the streets of Virú a bull run shall commence! The winner shall be offered a grand gift to give the one they most admire.

When Two Stars Unite

A journey that started so many years ago, when two children, still so distant from the world of adults, saw each other for the first time and exchanged simple greetings.

In the midst of all the recent happenings that affect descendants around the continent, the House Salazar has not had the chance to make any announcements; of which, there are many.

Unfortunately, the first two announcements are not of a happy nature. It is our responsibility to sadly report the deaths of two beloved members of the House. Mauricio Salazar, and Aled Salazar, have passed away. 

The House asks for the time and peace needed to grieve these two individuals. Mauricio, a cousin, a father, and a friend. And Aled, a husband, and a father.

In addition, the House wishes to address a controversy that has spread, the rumors that the House is led by Vampyres. These rumors are demonstrably false and have led to much pain for those in the house; especially with the passing of Mauricio, who can no longer defend himself from these accusations. As no proper evidence has been presented to the house, at this time, of Mauricio ever being involved with Vampyres, it is requested that his memory and death be respected. That he may be mourned for the man he was, and no longer subjected to this controversy. The rest of the House is willing to submit to darkspawn testing at the earliest convenience to put this investigation to rest.

An announcement will be sent to family and friends at a later date, containing details for a funeral, for both of these fine men. It is requested that mourning colors be worn.

The third and final announcement is one that was a long time coming, and is indeed overdue. One that we are overjoyed to make. The House is proud to announce the new Head of the Household, Lord Alfonso Tomas Salazar. A man who has grown to be compassionate, brave, and strong as a bull. A man who has the skills, leadership, and loyalty needed to lead this family. For it is in the wake of tragedy, that one’s true colors show. And Lord Alfonso has shown to be ready.

Thus concludes the announcements the House has to make.

The Abdication of the Paramount

This is not a missive I would have hoped to post this soon, but it’s one that I must post for both my own good, and the good of Virú. Due to a multitude of issues I have come across personally, I must step down from the podium that had been gifted to me by my Tia. In my stead, I leave the post of Paramount to Sloane Kunya Pachakutiq, my Pani. May she lead well, and lead Virú to brighter futures.

House Mendoza is a newly created house, formed from two families with a long and rich history.

The two families that make up House Mendoza are de Trastamara and Fontesar, both with family members happy to care for and teach any new children or individuals who join the family. The culture of the house is based on Hyspian and Virúvian traditions that have been established over time within both families.

Dedication – While some nobles may see work as beneath them, Mendoza does what must be done and works diligently in whatever field they pursue. 

Humility – Even as Mendoza rises through the ranks in Viru and Idunia, it remains important for every family member to stay humble toward those less fortunate, honoring our own upbringing and difficult history.

Family – Family is the most crucial pillar of House Mendoza. As the world moves around us, there is always someone who has your back—and that is family. Cooperation between the families lies at the root of everything we do.

The Trastamara family was formed through the marriage of Maravilla and Fontesar. Its history can best be summarized as that of a farming family achieving greatness through hard work. Even many years later, farming and husbandry remain important parts of life.

The culture draws much inspiration from post-colonial Argentine traditions.

We currently hold the positions of Treasurer and Director of Courts within the Court and Council of Viru, and we are also a recognized peerage family.

[!] Within the early hours of a bright day, does a letter arrive within the Aviary for the royal Family. Fine folded parchment was sealed with a dark crimson and violet swirling wax stamp, that portrayed two heraldic wolves, around them a serpent curling.

With most humble regards, to the Crown, the Royal Court and the Guard,

We, De la Casa Mendoza, write this letter not only in hopes of aiding the war and ensuring victory, by an ever steady supply of armor and arms. But as a wish to further grow and foster the Kingdom, even past this tumultuous time, in the face of what else might stand to oppose. 

What will be supplied, surely is but often used for blades and plate, ferrum and deamonsteel, metals that still need to be shaped by smiths of skill, but with it the leather to trim and fashion their straps. No part of valuable resource is to be wasted, so along with leather, rations shall be delivered to feed any hungry soul.

The creation of trebuchets and cannons are past us, our family may aid further, by partaking within the battles, we are no inventors of heavy machinery - but let it be said, that there is still material sent along to create the needed gears and ammunition.

Many words have been spilled in ink over the aiding for the war, yet there was word on the future,
on growth. Along we send material, mundane may one think, but often greatest need for festivals, such as wool, flowers and pottery of all kinds. 

Along do we hope to further host events such as balls and nights with varying kinds of games, to enrich the lands with whimsy that is so dearly lost within these times.

As the days pass and generations succeed one another, families often drift apart, and the ties that once bound them begin to loosen. This is true of most things—relationships, friendships, and love—for if those involved do not continually nurture them, they begin to fade. Over many years, this is how the two lines of de Trastamara and Fontesar grew distant. Once they had been one family, living together, cherishing and supporting one another. Yet with the passing of time, that closeness waned, and eventually those who had kept the bond alive began to part ways.

Thus began an age of distance. Both families worked independently and stood proudly beneath Viru’s banner, and yet something was missing. That feeling grew quietly over time until, one day, it was answered. On that day, Melisanda de Trastamara walked across Viru’s square, glancing about, when she suddenly spotted her aunt Catalina Brawn-Fontesar with her children—a young boy, Thalanir, and his sister, Yarelis. She approached them, and in speaking together, a long-empty space was filled. It was the feeling of familiarity that only family can bring.

The day was spent playing and reconnecting, and when Melisanda returned home, a new thought had taken root in her mind. The two lines should once more be united, working together to secure a bright and promising future for them both. And so the work began—the creation of a new house, one that would hold both families together. Thus marked the founding of La Casa Mendoza.

With the house established and both families reunited, they stepped once more before the court of Viru, seeking recognition as a peerage family, committed to ensuring Viru’s future remains bright. May Mendoza strives always to do what is necessary to uphold and protect Viru in all its ways, even to the very end. And in return, may Viru grant House Mendoza a home and a future.

Now, as this chapter draws to a close, it is only fitting that we celebrate what has come to pass. House Mendoza invites all peoples of Idunia, the Empire, and Viru to a grand ball in honor of its founding.

Come forth, clad in the colors of your houses, in your finest attire and most splendid gowns. May they shine beneath the golden lights of the ballroom. Let us celebrate the future and the strength of family. what it means to have those you trust, those you may rely upon and laugh with.

The final Destiny. 

The tavern had long since quieted to a low murmur by the time Mauricio allowed himself to sit.

Candlelight flickered against the wood-paneled walls, casting warm gold across scarred tables and half empty mugs. Laughter lingered in distant corners, softened by drink and late hour weariness. The smell of spiced wine and smoke clung to the air.

He sat apart from the others, not in isolation, never quite that but in the way commanders do when they carry too much to fully join the noise.

A dark glass rested in his hand, untouched for several moments before he finally lifted it. The whiskey caught the candlelight like blood beneath flame. He rolled it slowly between his fingers, watching the surface shift.

Outside the window, the moon hung full and pale as his gaze drifted to it often.

Silver light spilled through the glass panes and brushed across his features, softening the severity of them. In that light, he looked less like a Knight and more like something older, something that remembered centuries instead of years.

He took a slow drink. The tavern door opened briefly, a rush of cold air slipping inside before fading again, he did not turn. He had felt colder winds.

His thoughts were not on war. Not fully.

They were on legacy. In his family’s traditions  the weight of honor carried from lands far across the sea. On oaths spoken beneath cathedral arches and desert skies. On the meaning of standing when others could not.

He traced the rim of the glass with his thumb. The moonlight brightened as a cloud passed. There was a stillness in him tonight, not peace, no, not quite that, but acceptance. As if something inevitable had already been decided.

He whispered softly, just loud enough for himself "Hoy es el día."

The word lingered in the air finishing the drink in one steady motion. And kept watching the moon.

When the tavern had emptied enough to no longer require his presence, Mauricio rose without ceremony.

He set a few coins upon the counter, then reached for his hat where it rested beside the bottles. The brim was worn, shaped by habit and years. He turned it once in his hands before placing it upon his head, shadow falling over his eyes.

Outside, the night greeted him in full.

His bull waited where he had left it, massive and steady, breath curling faintly in the cool air. Mauricio mounted without a word, the leather saddle creaking softly beneath his weight. The city gates loomed ahead, torches flickering gold against stone.

He did not look back. The hooves struck the road in slow, deliberate rhythm as they left the city behind.
Stone gave way to dirt. Dirt to grass, the walls faded into silhouette. The moon rode high above him.

Silver light spilled across his poncho, catching the deep folds of fabric and tracing along the edge of steel beneath. For a fleeting second, when he lifted his face to the sky, the starlight caught his eyes red glinting faintly like embers before dimming again beneath the brim of his hat.

The forest line approached, dark and patient.

As he passed beneath its edge, the sounds changed. Wind through leaves. Distant night birds. The steady exhale of the bull.

Then. . . A second rhythm, subtle and measured. It was not the wind.

Mauricio did not turn immediately. He let the sound repeat. Once, twice, letting it follow him.

He eased the bull to a stop in a small clearing where moonlight pierced through the canopy in pale shafts. The world felt suspended there, quiet, waiting. He knew he was far enough now. Far enough from the city, far enough from witnesses.

His gloved hand rested briefly along the pommel of his saddle, the time had come, slowly, he turned his head.

The stars reflected across the faint gleam of his armor beneath the poncho. The clearing seemed to hold its breath. For the briefest moment, the red in his eyes surfaced again  not anger, not hunger but certainty.

He did not reach for his weapon, simply poking into the dark. "Ya es hora." And waited for the figure to step forward. The trees shifted first, not loudly just enough.

Mauricio’s eyes adjusted without effort. Where the night was thick and shapeless to mortal sight, he saw movement between trunks. The outline of steel. The pale flash of a blade being repositioned. The breath of horses held back in shadow.

Not one. Several, the bull beneath him exhaled low, sensing it too.

From the dark edge of the clearing, a horse stepped forward, hooves pressing softly into fallen leaves. Its rider dismounted before the animal had fully stilled.

The leader walked into the moonlight with unhurried confidence, boots heavy against the forest floor. His face was partly shadowed, but Mauricio saw clearly the scar at the jawline, the tired eyes of a man who had killed before and would again.

The others remained in the treeline, watching. The leader stopped a few paces away.

He gave Mauricio a small, almost amused smile. "Well now…Capitáin, isn’t it?"

Mauricio did not move nor responded.

The leader tilted his head slightly. "Didn’t expect to find you riding alone at this hour. No escort. No banners."
He glanced at the bull. "Interesting choice of mount."

Mauricio 's voice was calm. "La noche no me preocupa."

The bandit chuckled. "No. I suppose it wouldn't."

He shifted his weight, resting a hand on the pommel of his sword.

“Funny thing about reputations. They say you’re hard to kill. Say you’ve walked away from worse than this.”

Mauricio’s red eyes glinted faintly as a cloud drifted from the moon.

"They say many things, but are you willing to find out if it is true or not?"

The leader studied him a moment longer then slowly raised one hand.

The subtle tension in the trees tightened.

Steel adjusted. Bows steadied.

But the leader waved them back with a lazy flick of his fingers.

"I’ll take this one." A murmur of protest from the shadows.

He didn’t look at them. "I said I’ve got him!" The forest quieted again.

He stepped closer into full moonlight now, boots crossing into the pale clearing. Close enough to see the faint reflection of starlight across Mauricio’s poncho. Close enough to notice, just for a second, the unnatural gleam in his eyes.

The leader’s smile thinned.

"So tell me, Capitáin. What brings a man like you this far from his walls?"

Mauricio held his gaze. Still mounted, unmoving. "All men must face their destiny." The wind stirred between them.

The leader’s fingers tightened slightly at his sword hilt. "And is that what this is?"

Mauricio slowly slid one boot from the stirrup. The bull shifted beneath him as he dismounted with deliberate calm, boots touching earth.

The clearing seemed smaller now. "Eso depende de ti."



The clearing held its breath.
 

The leader studied Mauricio more carefully now that they stood on equal ground. Moonlight carved sharp lines across both men, one draped in poncho and quiet authority, the other in road-worn leather and earned suspicion.

"You don’t look afraid." the leader said softly.

Mauricio removed his gloves slowly, finger by finger. "Fear is for those who doubt it."

A faint ripple of unease passed through the men in the treeline. They could not see what their leader saw, the way Mauricio’s eyes reflected light like an animal’s… or something older.

The leader exhaled through his nose."I’ve killed knights before."

Mauricio tilted his head slightly. "Yo también."

The wind shifted. For a moment, neither moved.

Then. . . 

Steel whispered free from its sheath. The leader drew first lunging at him, fast and direct, testing.

Mauricio stepped aside with unnatural precision. The blade passed so close it sliced the edge of his poncho, fabric drifting to the ground. He did not counterattack.

He was measuring. The leader turned sharply, striking again but heavier this time.

Mauricio caught the blade with his forearm guard. Sparks flashed. The impact echoed through the clearing.

From the treeline, tension spiked.

"Boss!"

"Stay back!" the leader barked.

Mauricio moved then, not with fury but with control.

He disarmed the man in three motions, twist, step, strike! The sword spun into the dirt several feet away. In one fluid shift, Mauricio had him by the collar, forearm across his throat, strength unmistakable.

He could end it now. The leader’s pulse thundered against Mauricio’s grip.

Mauricio leaned close, voice low enough that only he could hear. "Listen carefully."

The man struggled slightly, then stilled. "Tonight you win."

Confusion flickered across the leader’s face. Mauricio’s eyes glowed faintly in the dark. "The city needs a Capitáin who can fall. It needs to believe I am mortal."

The leader’s breathing faltered. "You’re mad!"

Mauricio’s grip tightened just enough to remind him who held power.

"No!" A pause "Estoy cansado de este acto."

Behind them, one of the bandits shifted. Mauricio’s head tilted slightly, he could hear the heartbeat of each man in the trees. Smell their sweat, their fear.

He released the leader abruptly and stepped back.

And did something unexpected. He lowered his guard.

The leader stared at him. "What are you doing?"

Mauricio spread his arms slightly, open stance. "Making it convincing."

The bandit leader hesitated, this was wrong, every instinct screamed it was wrong.

But pride… reputation… the chance to be the man who defeated the Capitaín…

Slowly, he retrieved his sword. Mauricio did not move, the blade pierced through his side, clean and deliberate.

His body jerked  not from pain, but calculation. He allowed himself to fall to one knee. Blood, dark and thick, spilled onto the forest floor.

The treeline erupted in shocked murmurs. The leader pulled the blade free, stunned by how easily it had entered.

Mauricio looked up at him. Even wounded… there was no fear.

Only something ancient. He leaned in for one final time.

"When you tell this story. Say I fought like a monster!" A faint smile touched his lips."And that I bled like a man."

His strength faded and visibly as he collapsed onto his side.

The moonlight caught his red eyes one last time dimming.

Silence. . . The bandits slowly emerged from the trees, staring in disbelief.

Their leader stood over the fallen Commander, chest rising fast.

He had won! He had actually won!

But as the men began to gather, and one reached down to check the body. A wind moved through the clearing, cold and heavy.

The horses began to panic."Boss!"

The leader turned. Mauricio’s body was still there. Then. It wasn’t.

Only blood remained dark against the earth and hoofprints leading nowhere.
Far above, clouds drifted across the moon. And somewhere deeper in the forest…Something moved.
 

After the blade had struck and the performance had been made convincing. The bandits withdrew with hurried breath and trembling pride.

They believed the story already.
When the forest reclaimed its stillness, he rose again.

Slowly. The wound had sealed enough for him to stand, though blood still darkened the soil. His hand pressed briefly against his side not from weakness, but from habit. The moon watched in patient silence as he walked deeper into the trees.

Far enough that even vampire sight could no longer see the clearing through the density of trunks and gathering mist, there, beside an ancient oak, he paused. From within his poncho, he withdrew folded parchment  already written. He had prepared them before leaving the tavern. The ink was steady, deliberate. No rushed strokes. No trembling lines.

Letters to those he loved.

To comrades who had stood at his side!
To a family whose traditions still lived in his bones!
To one or two who would understand more than the rest!

He did not weep but he allowed himself a long breath as he reread a final line beneath the moonlight. He folded them carefully and slid them into the leather pouch fastened to his bull’s saddle.

The great animal stood waiting, calm as ever, dark eyes reflecting starlight.

Mauricio rested his forehead briefly against the bull’s."Vuelve a casa, Pedro."

The bull exhaled softly, as if understanding. With a gentle turn, he sent him back toward the road, toward the city gates, carrying the letters that would confirm what the forest would soon whisper.

A fallen Capitáin! A heroic defeat! A monster slain!

The mist thickened as It rolled low across the forest floor, curling around tree roots and swallowing moonlight in pale veils. Mauricio stepped backward into it, poncho blending with shadow, red eyes dimming beneath the brim of his hat.

For one final second, the stars caught against the faint steel at his side.

Then, nothing.

No hoofprints, no sound, no lingering silhouette between the trees, only fog.

And the legend of a Capitaín who fought like a monster and bled like a man.

Virúvians are not one distinct ethnicity, but are rather made up of several groups coming together under one banner. They are a people born of strife and struggle, refugees uniting under the protection of Idunia to forge a brighter future. The founding group was composed of Hyspian refugees, abandoned by their monarchs upon the conclusion of the Coalition War. New leaders, of old Hyspia and foreign lands, rose to guide these people. The cultures hybridized and turned away from the treacherous legacy of Hyspia, and these Virúvians embarked on a new path under the high Kingdom of Idunians. Their formative years were filled with strain, danger littering each day, yet such adversity only made these unique people one of strength. Through steady service to the Idunian crown, they eventually formed the High Lordship of Virú, and continue to prosper to this day.

The Many Cultures of Virú

The Tawantinsuyin: The Panaka of Pachakutiq heralded this culture by way of their founder, Apu Kay Kusikancha Leomonte, when he first sailed to Aevos. The Tawantinsuyin are a proud folk who follow a strict dogma. They do not lie, they do not wallow in lethargy, they remain steady in the face of adversity, and refrain from the imbibement of alcohol. The Tawantinsuyin are a bellicose people, numbering fierce warriors, skilled physicians, and diligent leaders. Though the Pachakutiq family was the main group of Tawantinsuyin for a while, new families are making the journey to Azuras and solidifying the culture in Virú. 

The Hypsians: Though Virú turned its back on Hyspia, many of its people are of Hyspian descent, including some former Hyspian noble families. Hyspians do not have strict cultural norms, but rather encompass a large group of people who speak in a familiar tongue. These vibrant folk tend to be more artistically and socially minded, though they do produce their own fierce warriors and brilliant scholars.

Others: Virú is open to people of all different ways of life, and is proud to carry on that tradition. People from all over Azuras are welcome and encouraged to carry on their traditions in their own manner, while still upholding the Virúvian pillars.

CULTURAL PILLARS 

Though Virú welcomes all people, it is founded on five pillars which every citizen must respect. 

Family

Familial loyalty and respect is one of the founding values of Virú. Loyalty to one’s elders, parents, and to the head of their family is paramount. Bringing shame and discord to one’s family is always a punishable offence, as is abandoning it. Virú has a very strong wardship culture, with many children spending years living with other families. Childcare is communal, though the final authority on the upbringing of children lies with their parents and the head of the family. 

Growth

The constant betterment of oneself. Stagnation and laziness should be avoided at all cost, and people should hone themselves like a blade against a wet stone. All Virúvian citizens are expected to be active members of the community, and try to better themselves. Children are placed in apprenticeships and wardships early on, so that they may learn a trade and hone their skills.

Nature

Nature - One should strive to live in harmony with nature, to protect and shape it so it might then provide for us. Plants and animals should be respected and treated with care as they provide for us. Virú’s architects take great care to master the environment around their cities, and make sure to introduce nature back into the city. Gardens are present on most roofs, trees are carefully upheld to produce fruit, and terrace farms adorn the cliffs and walls of the city. 

Community

A community is only as strong as its weakest link. Resources and knowledge should be shared, and neighbours should always offer a helping hand, a free meal, or a wise lesson. Blatant arrogance or aggression towards other members of the community is not tolerated. Strength is shown by the ability to help and protect others. Noble families are only elevated when they have shown themselves to contribute to the community, and are then held to a high standard to keep helping those around them.

Pride

Not the selfish pride one has in oneself, but rather pride in the collective lands and culture. Virúvians celebrate the different cultures its people come from, treat every craft with the utmost care, and ensure they always present their best selves to the world. Though this can be misused to justify arrogance and judgment of other cultures, a true Virúvians pride shines through their actions and achievements.  

VIRÚVIAN LIFE AND CULTURE

The Faith of Virú

The Virúvian ruling class are known to be profound followers of the True Faith; however, thanks to the protection of Idunia, there is a clause for freedom of religion for all who reside within good faith in Virú. The people of Virú are seen to be of a spiritual inclination, focusing on the study of saints, the Tawantinsuyin bringing forth a concept that there are two parts of what makes one whole in our reality, physical and metaphysical.

The study of saints is a common practice, though Virú tends to favour three. Saint Francisco, the patron saint of Hyspians; Saint Amyas, the patron saint of medicine; and Saint Julia, the patron saint of motherhood.

The Warriors of Virú

Virú’s culture of personal excellence leads to the formation of formidable warriors. Whether it be by blade or by magic, battle prowess is encouraged from a young age. The community is heavily encouraged to join the guard, as there is no greater honour than defending one’s  community. Lessons on self-defense are held regularly - mandatory for children- to ensure everyone is able to defend themselves in battles large and small. 

Children are trained more than to hone their blade, but also their demeanour and temper - a warrior's strength comes from more than their prowess but also their dignity. 

Within Virú one would commonly see spars or duels as frequent entertainment. Both as a refinement of one's craft, and as a method of settling disputes. This tradition of resolving conflict with violence can lead Virúvians to come off as aggressive or belligerent, especially when combined with Tawatinsuyin's honesty.

The Healers of Virú

Virú holds itself to a high medical standard. Children are taught first aid in school, and adults are encouraged to learn medicine. Free lessons are regularly held, and there is a strict training regimen for doctors. First aid and field surgery are taught in simulated battles to ensure medics can work in the most dire of situations. Emphasis is placed on resourcefulness, a wide understanding of afflictions and maladies, and rigorous adherence to medical standards.

Though most born and raised Virúvians know combat medicine, surgeons train for years under physicians. To call oneself a physician in Virú, one must have complete knowledge of anatomy, herbalism, alchemy, illnesses- as well as a basic understanding of the effects of curses and healing magics. 

Health of the body and soul is at the forefront of medical philosophy. There is great emphasis on hygienic work and patient environments. Careful care is given to keep patients well cared for, and to aid them after the fact. Architecture is designed to aid the injured, sick and old, incorporating lifts and slopes to provide ample accommodation for those in wheelchairs or crutches. Medicine is always free for everyone, and citizens regularly donate herbs and remedies to Saint Amyas.

Love in Virú

Courting varies wildly between couples, depending on their respective cultures, positions, and if the couple is old enough to marry. Either party may ask to court the other, offering a pearl to their love. One may court as many partners as they wish, though they may be wary of playing with the hearts of those from more protective families. 

During the courtship process, the families of both parties will meet and discuss expectations. When one marries a Virúvian, one marries their family. Marriage contracts are usually elaborate things approved by both families, and can take years to finalize. 

A common tradition among families is the fighting of the prospect. This is usually done when someone is taking on the family name, and can result in multiple duels, though never to the death. It is important to note that to get married in Virú, one must be 18, and members of peerage families must get approval from the head of their house. Failure to do so will result in legal consequences. 

After approval has been given by both families, the engagement is finalized with the weaving of the chumpis. These intricate belts made of alpaca wool are woven to represent both families. Each strand is dyed, spun  and woven with care and intention. The offering of the belt is finalized with a blessing ceremony, usually done by an elder in the community. 

Weddings often take multiple days, with separate events held for traditional ceremonies, church weddings, and receptions. 

The Fashion of Virú

Virúvian fashion blends the practical with the beautiful. The wealth of one’s wardrobe is demonstrated with expensive dyes, careful embroidery, and ornate jewelry and armor. Weaving and smithing are the two most prized crafts in Virú, with families often developing their unique style for both.

The intricacy of garments comes in the fabric itself or the drape, rather than the cut of the garment. Simple dresses and tunics are draped and belted with care, and armor is adorned with scarves and ponchos. Most clothes are made of vibrantly dyed wool and cotton, as well as ornate leather and metal. 

Ornamentation is especially prized, with weapons being shown off as much as jewelry. Feathers, beads, tassels and gems are all incorporated, though the gold remains the dominant decoration for most. 

Hair is one of the few areas with a distinction between masculine and feminine styles. Men tend to wear their hair longer, though short styles are often seen, as well as partially shorn heads. Women, however, do not cut their hair. They only do so during times of deep mourning, such as the death of their husbands. Both genders frequently sport ornate braids, decorated with beads or ribbons. 

Mourning in Virú

Like with most aspects of life, mourning is done communally. Family and friends come together, and the life of the deceased is celebrated. They are honoured with memorials called offrendas, placed in homes and in communal areas. The deceased is represented by paintings or drawings of them, and items that mattered to them in life. It is a way to keep those who have passed close to the community.

Virú is not one for extravagant funerals. The corpse of the deceased is carefully prepared by trained individuals, and laid out for visitors to say goodbye. Religious customs are followed for most, though Tawantinsuyins do not burn their dead. The bodies are instead preserved in salt, gold and herbs, and kept in sanctified crypts.

In mourning, normally vibrant clothing is dulled to black, brown, yellow, and cream palettes with much simpler and unadorned clothing. Some may veil their face, and this is the only time when Tawantinsuyin women will cut their hair.

By decree and warm invitation of Alfonso Tomas Salazar, the High Lordship of Virú shall hold a Valentine’s celebration imbued with elements of fate, chance, and mutual intent.

The celebration shall be open to all who seek new connections and to all who have already formed connections. 

Those who wish to participate in the paired games and matchmaking must send a sealed letter. The letter will contain all necessary information for meaningful pairing. Established pairs may send one letter together if they wish to be paired together. 

The afternoon shall commence with a series of mutual challenges and diversions to foster cooperation and connection, such as:

• Paired Hide & Seek to test cooperation throughout the city of Virú.

• The Couples’ Quiz, a lighthearted test of intuition and familiarity.

• A Grand Scavenger Hunt, sending couples out into the city in pursuit of clues and tokens.

• Other games and chance-based entertainment options will be available during the festival.

For couples seeking a deeper form of insight, a special tarot card reader will be made available for a short time. Individual readings will be available for ten mina, while couples’ readings will be available for fifteen mina. This service will not be available for the entire festival.

The games will come to a halt for a short interlude of a Saints’ hour or two. This is a time for couples, new or old, to walk, talk, and get acquainted at their own pace.

As night falls, Viru will be replaced by candlelight and sophistication for a Valentine Night Ball. This will be accompanied by a live performance by Landskar

Throughout the day, merchants and artisans are invited to sell their wares. There is a special invitation for Valentine-themed items such as flowers, candies, letters, charms, and keepsakes.

This is a festival of first meetings and familiar hands. Fate will bring couples together for a day of games and tests or reaffirm the bonds that have endured.

It is with great regret that Virú watches the departure of Rodrigo Tupaq Amaru Leomonte, but myself, my council and my court wish him well. We honour his wishes, and as such the Leomontes- other than Tupaq Amaru and his son- are reforging themselves as the noble Panaka of Pachakutiq.

With his departure, Lady Gloria Taqui Pachakutiq will now take over as head of the Panaka of Pachakutiq. 

Let it be known that Rodrigo Tupaq Amaru Leomonte is from this day stripped of all Virúvian titles and offices, and removed from the line of inheritance of Lady Anacleta Paqar Pachakutiq née Leomonte, and Lord Antonio Olivar De Pelear. To the citizens of Virú, our allies, companions, and honored guests,

It is in this age, characterized by strife, ambiguity, and war, that House Salazar and House Trastámara invite you to The Winter Star Ball. It will take place within the halls of Virú. We do not invite you to this event in ignorance of what is transpiring. We invite you in defiance of despair.

Winter has fallen upon the land, harsh and unrelenting. But even in these times, the soul needs to be nurtured. Tonight can remind the people of Viru that the land lives on; its people still come together to dance and to laughter. Morale, like fire, needs to be fed in order for it not to dwindle.

This is in honor and celebration of the people of Virú and all who stand beside us in alliance and amistad.

 ✴ An Evening Light in the Middle of Winter ✴

The Winter Star Ball will be a night of music and dance and fellowship in the glow of candlelight and starlight. Though the world outside our walls is beset by troubles of all kinds, inside the ballroom there will be room for laughter, conversation and shared relief.

Guests are encouraged to participate as they will, to dance, to speak out, or simply to bask in the beauty of fellow companionship. Let the evening pass at a more relaxed speed, tranquilamente, that spirits might lift and hearts might find some respite. Even if only for one night.

Additionally, guests are requested to don their finest wintertime attire, with whites, silvers, light blues, soft grays, and deep midnight blues being encouraged. Cloaks and accessories such as furs with a frosty or starlight theme are also warmly welcomed.

As this event aims to promote unity and comfort, all participants are kindly requested to display respect, courtesy, and consideration for the other people surrounding them.

All Viruvian citizens are welcome. As well as the allies of Virú. The noble-born, the common man. The traders and religious. The military. The foreign visitors. All are welcome in our halls. No one needs to wonder if they are included. It is for all. A communal inhalation of warmth from a frigid period.
