Two figures stood beneath the translucent light of an aurora rippling across the night sky like a banner caught in wind. They stood on the precipice of a glacial outcropping that stood over the entrance into Khron'Hundmar and adjacent to the modest village of Brigwindosdur. A man, appearing twice as old as the woman opposite him, rested a relaxed palm on the other's shoulder and they stood there in that half-embrace and half-distancing motion with the men speaking audibly.

"You ask of me the authority to lead our tribe as if you are half-expecting me to spit out a retort. I have no retort to give, but rather a sigh of relief," Brennus conceded. The woman looked up to him, her painted face failing to hide her astonishment.

"Lurana hal'Cingedoz, this authority has no crown to covet nor kingdom to encompass with my heart like a dragon hoarding gold. We are a small folk, an honest folk, a folk few and far between and whose wandering makes it hard to corral us and the wonders we conjure are the treasures of our eyes as opposed to the mundane life of the larger kingdoms whereby the tracts of vast lands are the only things worth coveting."

Lurana looked past Brennus as if her mind's eye conjured image upon the very leather laid against his shoulder.

"Lurana, I am but Bardnemetoi. Honored Bard, my leadership only being that I picked up where my father Gaisorix left off when he died in the dread city of Kivdrona. I prefer marking our runestones with animated engravings rather than counting coin or herding people. If you have the mind for it, the will for it, the desire for it; I will gladly give up my being Rix of the tribe - of being leader. I shall aid you in the ways that has most defined me, but will gladly call you my leader."

Brennus embraced Lurana like a father would a daughter. The two stood awhile longer upon the outcropping as the snow picked up. The new chieftess had been chosen and her first decisions would be to send word to all Cingedoz to return home. The tribe lives, the tribe survives, and now a new leader seeks for the tribe to thrive.

The small encampment of Brigwindosdur bustled alive day and night, men and women gathered beneath hearths and around fires, as if a goodly host converged. The tribe shared news and armaments as the whole cleaved away into smaller parties, dispatched in different directions to the tune of a blaring carnyx warhorn carrying over the steadily lower hills spread out from the great mountain and Dwedmar colony of Khron'Hundmar. Conversation between Dwedmar and Cingedoz indicate the issuance of The Outlandish Hunts; calls for Cingedoz men and women to investigate particularly disturbing reports of eldritch, evil, or otherwise disconcerting monsters or matters afflicting those across the mainland continent.

The actions of Bodbmakos Aingidnemetoi (also Tarvurovekoi) beginning a new cycle on the Epochgyre for heroic deeds has resulted in the establishment of Cingedoz presence in certain locations such as Celia'nor and Petra. Brennus Bardnemetoi facilitated the opening of shops in the West and the East (in Valfleur specifically) to secure revenues to further outfit and repair the tribe's armor and barding during their quests. These shops also serve as a means to gather information on the beasts and ill-meant kind they seek and hunt.

THE VILLAGE OF THE WHITE HILL

BRIGWINDOSDUR DI CINGEDOZ

Sprækjom for "The Village of the White Hill of the Cingedoz"

A humble hamlet set upon a snowy plateau overlooking the cavernous entrance to the Dwedmar Undercity of Khron'Hundmar. The hamlet, or what has been established so far, consists of a runestone circle on one of the planes of the plateau and a small encampment tucked in a grotto opening before a glacier. The Cingedoz have managed to salvage copious amounts of timber from a palisade from an earlier camp in the area and used that to reinforce and redirect the battlements on the southern flank of the village. A traditional Cingedoz fixture, a watchtower with a karnyx warhorn fixed like the snout of an elepant, is fortified on one of the edges of the canyon pass one would need to traverse through to reach Khron'Hundmar.

One of the most prestigious of features to the Cingedoz currently is the Dayrucawr or the Giant Gate. A pair of great wooden doors thick and banded with iron and decorated with a series of reliefs and metalwork and woodcrafts fixed to different surfaces of the entryway. The stylistic manner in which many of the reliefs are composed show the intelligent and creative energies of the Cingedoz. Some reliefs, from a far look like scenes, but prove intricate up close as these scenes are composed of letters and runes written together with little margin between each. A series of banners, indicative of the traditional Cingedoz color and heraldry, are strung along the top ridges of the gate.

Once one passes the Dayrucawr, they will find a narrow and precarious path along one of the faces of the canyon leading one up to the plateau on which the Village of the White Hill sits. Again, a series of sunken reliefs in ice and stone stare at your side profile as you climb up or down the narrow thoroughfare. Some even claim that a few of the reliefs appear to move, as if animated in some magickal manner, when they walk past. The Cingedoz build for need and the first need is defense with the lower priority needs now being met.

Wooden protractors and all fashions of quills and inkpots littered the grotto floor where a miniature dolmen made table stood. The dolmen sheltered crumpled pieces of parchment save for one, one stretched out and delicately decorated, marked, and written on laid on the surface of the stone. The parchment, articulately fashioned into a map, has a small legend and scale drawn on the bottom-right corner reading Map of the Northern Span. The map conveyed a fascinating insight into the crystallization of both the Cingedoz language known as Sprækjom and to the growing cartography skill found developing between members of the tribe.

The language of the Cingedoz is one that does not resist synthesis, rather some words from Elvellyn, Rathonian, Vistulian, and other languages are adopted either as cognates or morphed. Still then, some words originally to Sprækjom are morphed to better be pronounced especially as more and more people adopt the tradition and may not have the Highlander tongue able to pristinely sound out what can be a relatively difficult language to speak. The word cairn, introduced as a funerary tomb tradition by Morag hal'Cingedoz, becomes carn. The first of the carns is beneath the lone castle of Bjornfjall south of Brigwindosdur where the Cingedoz discovered an unsettling cave system with victims lynched from the caps of great mushrooms.

Other geographical or civilizational nouns have changed over time. Dur, the Cingedoz word for village, becomes Dor - in the case of the ruined village of the Old Svarlings, Dor Ainaklis, this name translates as 'ruined village'. For those settlements no longer occupied, but not showing sign of ruin or siege, the Cingedoz word Lend or 'empty' is used. Lend is simplified as Len and is usually followed by the name of the old settlement - such as the case of Len Varhelm which is the abandoned capitol of the Kingdom of Norland. The term Mor, though its superlative Moiran means 'sea', is used on maps to indicate large bodies of water such as the case of Mor Allrhrim or 'Sea filled with Ice'.

As the Cingedoz tribe expands their travels, their trade routes, and their scouting; the map of the Northern Span takes on finer definition or wider scope.  More locations would be amended to the map or new maps would be drafted. The curiosity of the Cingedoz leads them to many nooks, niches, and no-wheres which others may overlook.

Dear Brennus,

Haló, I know it’s been a long time and we haven’t talked much but I want you to know that I am happy and safe. I’ve landed myself a place to stay in Corwinsburg and have befriended a lot of the family too.

I decided to wear clothes that fit their group and it seems to have worked, though I’ve kept my traditional warpaint as a symbol of our culture. I’ve also picked up politics and at a time like this (especially the part where Aaun is now a kingdom) I consider it a useful skill.

The family allows me to go with them to meetings and votes and such and I’ve learnt a lot about this part of Almaris. It’s really interesting once you get into it but I suppose that’s in the eye of the perceiver.

Do you know they are all fancy here? They talk in posh accents and drink pure whiskey (that they made!) It was a shock to the system when I first arrived, but I quickly got used to it, they are all polite so it’s easy to bare. When I was given a room, I offered to help work around the keep but they denied me! They said I’m a guest and a guest deserve more than being a worker, I wonder how a person can be so polite, but they’ve offered me nothing but kindness.

"We met with Lord Darek and agreed,

To protect the land over the Dwedmar town-beneath-the-hills

Lord Darek Irongrinder hosted the High Elder Gabriel Pasciak "Law-Keeper" & Brennus hal'Cingedoz in the last months of the year 95 of the Second Age in the depths of Khron'Hundmar with a small party of Dwedmar and Vistulians in hopes of building amity between both parties. The Vistulians, having been driven from their ancestral home on the Isles in Old Savoy by a devastating rot that wrecked havoc on their infrastructure and stock, migrated to the far north in mainland Almaris. The clan elder Brennus, representing the Cingedoz tribe, continued dialogue with Lord Darek and the Rhunlord Norli Starbreaker and eventually came to an agreement which would see the village Brigwindosdur (Common trans. 'Village of the White Hill') emerge upon the snowy plateaus overlooking the cavern entrance to Khron'Hundmar. The Cingedoz tribe settled upon the planes of the plateau with the other Vistulians close at hand in nearby Alisgrad and both groups frequenting each other.

Brennus promised Lord Darek to cooperate in raising battlements and outer fortifications above ground and pledged his tribe to common defense and aid in labor to the Dwedmar in return for his tribe's settling. The Cingedoz, having an affinity for trade, claimed this opportunity as a means to benefit from the rich craftsmanship of the Dwedmar and the trade that flowed through the canyon pass. Cathubodua hal'Tulach seized opportunity to sit with Norli and other Dwedmar smiths to refine her family's penchant for metalworking while other Cingedoz continued the habitual want for adventure including Bodbmakos and Guinevere who now resides in Corwinsburg. The Epochgyre, the mythic cycle of time, seems to turn towards that period of time where the tribe regathers.

Many Cingedoz have returned such as Cormack hal'Cingedoz and the Tulach family. A company of adventurers have tied their fortunes to the village, led by the Elvellyn Morag. Even strangers stranger than Orcs and gnomes, such as the Kharajyr, have expressed desire to adopt the Cingedoz tradition. The recent construction of the Dayrucawr, the Great Gate, and southeastern fortifications show activity and a will to cooperate across the people. Merchants have sent for stalls to be opened in the illustrious Elvellyn city of Celia'nor. The fortune of the tribe, though initially disturbed by the fall of the Vistulian Isles, seemed to turn for the better. The good fortune started with the Dwedmar Lord Darek's agreement and the tribe continues to build good relations with the pioneers at Khron'Hundmar.

Origins and Overview:

Through the ages, the Tulach Family has always been one of honor and warfare; although, they expressed it differently than their brethren of Störheim . Basically, their methods of fighting and war are through crafting instruments and hunting powerful beasts to use as food and trophies for their homes and people. Their weapons are rarely used in battle unless truly needed as they dwell away from civilization or conflict.

As a result of their ancestry, their ways differ; Halfdan the first is a Störheim Beserkr of a tribe that upheld some part of the waldenian culture, a warrior taught the ways of war from an early age. A ruthless individual, he showed no mercy to anyone until his battalion stormed a village whose culture was that of the Cingedoz; there he met Caoimhe , a smith, and Saironemetoi. Through her astuteness and craft, she eventually defeated Halfdan. As a result, Halfdan was exposed to the world in a new light in his taste of defeat; but, Regardless of his loss the village was overcome by his people, and when the moment of truth came where he needed to execute all the prisoners and Caoimhe. He rejected this endeavor, and as a result, was banished with the prisoners and Caoimhe into the forest of Störheim among the wilderness. Needless to say, the duo grew closer and together would form a new household and town atop a hill away from everyone: The Tulach, The Ones Of The Hill and The Frondeurs of the forest. Heroes of old that are known in tales throughout the world as vigilantes that guide the lost into the RIGHT path, while those who try to disrupt the balance of the hill awaken the might of a mountain.

Various Cultural Points:

The culture bears a mixture of Waldenian and Cinged’s ways. Often those within this clan may have a Waldenian name and a Cinged surname, or vice versa. None of them are pure of blood and are renegades. Through the ages of Störheim, the clan of Tulach began to accept even the elven kind into their midst and families even if their presence is quite rare. Hence, the appearance of these people varies according to their builds and stature, even if most of them are tall and strong as a result of their excessive hunting and working, others of smaller and thinner physiques remain guarding the towns and homes. Despite this, most have dark-blue tattoos made out of wood to reproduce these tattoos through natural means wherein cover most of their bodies and icy-blue eyes and hair of red/orange, or raven color. Of course; it varies from family to family but these last features are the main ones of the Exalted Of Ormsliki.  

Nonetheless, they waste no time to indulge themselves and wear many accessories like bracelets, necklaces and most of all; the torcs that are one of the symbols for their freedom. But, these aforementioned accessories are often personal creations and it is considered an insult to wear someone else's creation unless permission is granted and its value is shown. Although clothing varies according to a family's preference, the aforementioned topic concerns the Cinged's style the most. It is rare to see a Tulach dressed entirely like a Waldenian.

Names: Ackilinda, Adalfrao, Adalfrit, Caozperht, Coazmar, Cotafrit, Cotahilt,  Bodica , Caratacus , Veleda, Branwyn , Elyn , Morrigan , Ariovistus , Odoacer , Arminius etc…

Surnames: Arbeid, Appelhof, Breitbarth, Geiszler, Holzknecht, Caolaisdean, Deòireach, Stiùbhartach, Tulach, Roideach etc…

Language: It always depends on one’s family but it’s between the Waldenian and THE SPRÆKJOM.

Marriage: The ways of love work in simple ways. There’s no chain of control like promising someone a marriage in order to make a stronger one’s noble family. Even In love, the tulach upholds freedom. However, It is tradition that two beloved ones give each other their own handwork for It would be an object that’ll live through their entire life.

These objects must always be made of Aurum carved with the imaginary of each other’s life. A tale told onto an item.

Runestones: The runestones’ concept follows the one of the cinged but their style and reason why to build them may change depending on one’s way to follow the spirits whilst the families who follow more the tradition of waldenian prefer to  draw runes and their achievements on tomes.

The Tulach people, through each age of Störhei, have developed their own pantheon of spirits but their worshiping is different for they uphold achievements before anything; their way of preaching belief is similar to those of the spirits for whom they use the old ways of the Maðrvindr(Shamans). This pantheon and the three great spirits within are the symbols and main Characteristic of the Tulachs: 

1. Strength.

2. Knowledge.

3. Freedom.

However, how these gods and concepts are worshiped, seen, or treated, depends from family to family. Ancient ways have been forgotten as old concepts that have been dug into the ground for unknown reasons. Perhaps to hide the truth of something or hide one’s family secrets. The main gods that are yet alive regardless of their history are:

Cathán, The Mangled Sapient[Strength]:

Cathàn, known as the spirit of strength is said to be a former mortal who sought redemption after being crippled in a gruesome war. It represents the past-self of the Tulach on how wicked they were and how they want to change their ways for the better- to uphold honor and strength in their wake. Cathàn’s appearance changes depending on one’s family; some see him as a Crestless lion, some as a wingless crimson dragon, but his most famous appearance is of a crippled elderly man. To worship him, followers must never forget their past; they must always build small structures of runes that tell a story of how one's sin was resolved; additionally, they should preach that their family's health should always remain high as well as providing food and protection for their family members. Performing an unhonorable act is never a good idea either as the spirit of Cathàn is seen as a punisher of a horrible nature.

Domains: Anger, Strength, Honor, Hunting, Family, Blood, Pride, Fire.

Symbols: Weapons, Muscles, Skulls, Crimson-Colored things, Bones, Chains.

Torann, The Chained Erudite[Knowledge]:

Time-eaten tales speak of Torann - the Spirit of Knowledge. These legends tell of an Eartheater able to summon lesser spirits of storm to the realm, who broke the land and the men that dwelt therein. Fierce was the battle Cathàn brought upon Torann, and it was long; but in the end, Torann was overcome. Although he was wounded by Cathàn; the aforementioned warrior sought to give into the mindless beast that Torann was mercy, and offered him chance for redemption; a blessing of intelligence which through the ages, changed both Torann’s mind and body for he was capable to control more of his wild-side to spread knowledge amongst all. Its appearance and mutations have been speculated to be draconic with bird-like features like a phoenix to some extent or likeness of a lizard  but all patch him to be always chained to avoid his thunderous-wild nature to come out ever again. It represents the beast that lives within each of Tulach’s hearts  and how self-control can bestow untold knowledge. The way of worshiping this lizard being is to build each structure of rune when knowledge of utmost importance is found or when a high-deed of self-control is proclaimed under a grand storm. Furthermore, he invites his followers to spread the conquered knowledge amidst their family and protect it forevermore.

Symbols: Scales, Books, Runes, Chains, The Rain, Libraries, Worms and Dragons.

Áine, The Perdurable Manumitter[Freedom]

Last but not least it’s Áine, the only spirit that seems to be flawless in each story spread throughout this culture. She is known to have almost defeated Cathán in combat when the aforementioned warrior-spirit was most wild; and while she is more frail than the other gods, her mystical powers and connection with the spirit world are far greater. She is a heroine, the one who gives life and air to those in need. As of now, she keeps a distance from other spirits and will only interact with them if her assistance is truly needed or if they require her advice on important matters. She isseen as either a dragonic being crafted from natural elements or a lanky or  feminine figure from ocean power and wind elegance. She is the representation of the Tulach’s isolation and especially their free spirits; she is the true meaning of Freedom and her type of worshiping is rather broad for a follower must always do what they want regardless of the rules but this freedom should not be abused. This way has brought doom to many families, for self-control was rarely found in them.

Symbols: Mothers, Forges, Hills, Forests, Shields, Accessories, Walls, Shine objects.

Magic And Creatures:

The Tulach’s see the world and its creatures/magic in a spiritual manner, especially those on the Cinged, while those of the Waldenian maintain a degree of zealousness, trying to stay away from it so they do not lose sight of their mortal existence and hunt down those who would abuse such gifts, they act like templars and executioner for their people. These views do vary according to the family, but the most common belief among their kin is that everything comes from the spirits regardless of their true origin; and most of the time, these spirits are portrayed as dragons, which is why the main pantheon frequently portrays them as the same. For example, the void can be seen as an astral serpentine being under the domain of Torann, its form is infinite, and it imparts knowledge of conjuring elements unto the righteous chosen. Despite this, it does not mean that they worship dragons since they use the powers they gain to kill mighty creatures such as giants or dragon themselves. They are mostly seen as a power to seize and bend and use it against the creatures of the wild that would endanger the balance of creatione but a sign of respect remains there nonetheless for a dragon is always a being of sheer force.

Garunilekogh(Mysticism): The art of manipulating ectoplasm is used by those that call themselves Wiccyrd (mage) among the Tulach. they claimed to have been blessed by a ghostly dragon under the domains of Torann. These Wiccyrd were quite important in the third era of Störheim as one of the heads of the clan harbored many ghosts, giving them a new chance to live and redeem himselfuntil something drove him mad to the point that he became a ghost himself, beginning to cause only mischief throughout the culture. Henceforth, this art was soon to be held as taboo, thus It has been dug into the ground, forgotten, for only a vague memory of it remains. Ghosts and such are from time to time respected as ancestors that are on the mortal plain seeking to complete something or protect their own people from an oncoming disaster.

Harvandaud (Necromancy): There are many tales involving this art and none of them are good. The method by which it was acquired is unknown, almost as if those who sought to hide its existence were tormented by it, trying to ensure that it would remain hidden. It is rumored that one of the first Tulach planned to make his entire people immortals or slave undead in order to get revenge on the Störheim warriors. As a result, all creatures associated with this art must be slain as soon as possible to prevent their corruption from spreading. It is unknown whether any other Tulach will follow the path of this unknown Tulach or If some already exists.

Valmir’Taliyna(Blood magic):  This art came in the last era when a group of sage elves joined the ranks of the Tulach. Their presence created many conflicts since they claimed their power derived from the Cathán himself for they were the messiahs that may have guided the Tulach into the perfect path of being a crafter. Albeit, what they can really do was obscured to those not worthy due to this aforementioned internal conflict; thus, they are only known to be blessed ones that can heal the wounded or chosen warriors of the spirits. All the creatures connected to it like the lesser vampires or greater vampires, are considered sinners that have gone far into the art, abusing their gift and being cursed to the point their humanity is forever gone but they are (most of the time) not killed on sight. They are imprisoned in cells of aurum filled with onions to render their curse and torment ever-ending.

Catuwiccyrd(Scionism): The Wicce(Magic) is indeed like a blessing. This art has survived through all ages and is still practiced to some extent. Among the gifts of the chained spirits, it is one of the most common and accepted. Despite this, the first gift is regarded as an initial attempt to test the mental endurance of a Tulach as their physical strength is drained, so they are encouraged to find their lost strength and keep fighting until they become Catuwiccyrds; battle mages, and the strongest ones of the chained spirit’s blessed ranks. In this case, the word 'scion' or how to become one is also unknown to this family, as is the other voidal archetype. It is assumed that all creatures spawned by the void have been sent by Torann to test the gifted one's abilities.

Drwdae(Druidism): The art of Drwdae is another of the forbidden arts. It is said to be an attempt of Áine's freedom to create a gift like the ones of her brethren spirits but her chaotic nature made those tied to this art and anything related to it madly. A mere attempt to recreate perfection that ended up being a plague that almost destroyed the whole culture of the Tulach, or at least... It is as it is said to each family and child who inquire about the Drwdae. 

Sceaðadēofol(Dragonborn): The Sceaðadēofols are the peak of the peak. They are the emblem of the Tulach; those who have seized the power of the wild creatures and spirits into their palm to be reborn into a stronger form. They are often the leaders of each family to uphold the three characteristics of each Tulach for they bear the strength of  Cathán, The Wisdom of Torann, and the compassion  of Áine; their ascension is regarded as rare and only a few could accomplish it by completing a mighty feat that no one could've done while never betraying the codes of honor of the Tulach’s, one of them is known as Ormslíki, the son of Halfdan. However, draconic creatures  that cause needless destruction to avoid creation to flourish are considered taboo while other draconic beasts are seen as servants of the spirits or are held with utmost respect regardless of the conflict due to their strength and powers.
