I have failed, friends and brothers, fellows and sisters. In taking up this post as Grandmaster of the Holy Order of Saint Nicolas the Martyr, I promised GOD, High Pontiff Tylos II, and myself that I would work to eliminate the excesses of prior Orders. I would teach these new knights and fellows the way of sackcloth and penance. I would teach them that the light of GOD was more beautiful than any temptation of Darkness.

I have failed.

It is now my grave responsibility to correct these failings and render judgment on the failings of me and my brothers. Therefore, with firm reliance on divine providence, I now place into edict the following orders.

Holy Sir August, having refused to undergo the oaths required of a knight of Saint Nicolas, having refused to relinquish name and title in the service to GOD, and having been accused and found guilty of breaking the Aurum Code of Saint Nicolas, is hereby cast out from the Holy Order of Saint Nicolas the Martyr. His titles of Manus Dexstra and Equester-Lectorem are stripped from him. He is to no longer bear the title of Holy Sir or wear the colors and armor of the Order. Know this, August Jazloviecki, the only reason your life is not forfeit from breaking the Aurum Code is that you never swore oaths under it. @Mykei

Brother Jean, having been discovered shirking his duties in the dispute in Acre and having been accused and found guilty of breaking the Aurum Code of Saint Nicolas, is hereby cast out from the Holy Order of Saint Nicolas the Martyr. Though still allowed to be and bound by his oaths as a medicant monk, he is banished from the House of the Nicolites and no longer considered a brother of that monastic house. @Jentos

Holy Sir Alfred, Equestor-Venator of the Knights of the Martyr, having shown great strength of arms and character, is hereby granted the title of Manus Dextra. He will be the Commander of the Legion of Light, the right hand of the Grandmaster, and his designated successor. Finally, in penance of my failings, I hereby step down as Grandmaster of the Holy Order of Saint Nicolas the Martyr, take off my armor, return the ashes of Saint Nicolas the Martyr to the Order and the Aurum Shield of Saint Nicolas, and put back on sackcloth. I enter into the House of the Nicolites and will swear oaths as a monk, living out the remainder of my life in prayer and worship of the Creator of all things. The Manus Dextra will succeed me as Grandmaster.

The following orders to the officers of the Holy Order of Saint Nicolas the Martyr are placed into immediate effect.

To His Excellency, the Manus Dextra, Holy Sir August, you are to lead the Legion of Light into the Kingdom of Oren and establish a camp near Vienne. Send scouts to the towns and manors of the kingdom in case of attacks, so that the Legion can be mobilized to assist in the defense of the Faithful during this war. You are not to initiate any offensive action, but to defend only against attacks against the Faithful. 

To His Excellency, the Equestor-Venator, Holy Sir Alfred, you are not to deviate from your current mission and you may request any assistance from knights in your preliminary inquiries.

To Her Eminence, the Prioress Emeritus of the House of the Nicolites, Matriarch Katerina, I request that you send a contingent of the Nicolites to deploy a field hospital in the Legion of Light camp in Oren to prepare for military and civilian casualties. 

To His Highness, the Fidei Defensor, Karl III of Haense, I urge you to reconsider this fight against the territory of Oren. The Dwarves' fight against the Orcs may be just due to the slights against them, but there is no more need to assault the Silver Isle and its Canonist defenders in order to drive out any Azdrazi. I implore you to, instead, loan out some members of the Brotherhood to act as auxiliaries in the Legion of Light and come with us as we investigate and purge any Azdrazi from the land, as we are allowed peacefully to by the rulers of that land. I will leave the Knights of the Martyr within the Holy See to defend the Faithful from any raids made due to this war. @GMRO

To His Highness, Frederick I of Oren, I humbly request your permission for a temporary camp to be established in your lands to hold a field hospital and baggage train of the Legion of Light, so that they may assist you in the defense of the Faithful. Additionally, I implore you to restrain your forces from any offensive raids against your Canonist brothers in Oren. I am charged with the defense of all faithful and do not wish to split the Legion's strength in half by needing further security in the Holy See. My knights alone should do against any raids from the orcs in those lands. @Lionhz

The Faith Militant of the Church of the Canon, currently organized through the Holy Order of Saint Nicolas the Martyr, is hereby called up to serve in battle against the servants of the Archdrakaar that dwell in the lands of the Horde. Know we well, the soldiers of GOD, that the Archdrakaar's minions, known as Azdrazi, have long perverted the faithful among the Sons of Horen to worship the draconic creature, pledging and tying themselves to it against the Laws of the Canon. Know, too, we that Church of the Canon has declared an Inquisition against the followers of Azdromoth in the Declaration of Inquisition, issued on the 18th of Horen's Calling, 1834. The declaration recognizes a need to secure the sanctity and safety for all Canonists, and the Faith Militant has a duty to the protection and safe-keeping of the Canonist faithful, especially against the creatures of darkness and flame.

The Order is ordered to mobilize and protect those faithful that will be fighting the Azdrazi, inasmuch as is needed to defend their souls and lives, but are cautioned against battles for pride or temporal gain, nor shall they participate for the transfer of land. The Order is not a sword of Canonist states, but a shield against the Darkness. If such a transfer of lands is inevitable, the Order urges the Canonist Princes involved in this conflict to bring more lands into the realm of the Canon, not the realms of the the followers of the Brathmordakin, for the Order remembers the Sons of Urguan once shouting for joy towards the Archdrakaar in the lands currently in conflict. Additionally, the House of the Nicolites will be ordered to act as healers and missionaries in those acquired lands so that the faith may grow.

Ride now and ride well, my Fellows and my Brothers. May you shine as GOD's light, brought to all the dark places of this world. May you be prepared to defend that light when the evil or ignorant strike against it.

WHAT IS THE FAITH MILITANT?

For every organization on LOTC, there must be people prepared to defend it. Nations have their armies. Guilds have their warriors. Noble houses have their retinues. The Canonist Church has the Faith Militant. There is a long tradition of peaceful priests being protected by stalwart knights. However, the Faith Militant is more than simply bodyguards. They have a roleplay niche all their own, separate and distinct from other militaries and house guards. 

The Church of the Canon is the faith held by the majority of human characters on the server. They worship the Creator, whom they call God, and devote themselves to the study of the four divine scrolls, written by the four Exalted, humans with an especially close relationship with God. The Faith Militant of the Canonist Church can be any number of militant monastic or knightly orders that are approved of by the High Pontiff of the Church. The current leadership of the Church of the Canon has decided on a singular order, encompassing both a militant monastic group, an army of faithful soldiers, and a cadre of knights. This is the Order of Saint Nicolas the Martyr.

ROLEPLAY PURPOSE

Defenders of the Faith

The Faith Militant are the Defenders of the Faith. This makes them the personal guard to all priests, monks, and various clerical members of the Church of the Canon. However, it also extends far beyond that, for the Faith Militant are the defenders of the faithful entire. Wherever there are faithful Canonists under threat of attack by heathens, heretics, the excommunicated, or even the misguided zealot, there will be a member of the Faith Militant there to protect them. It was in this role that the Faith Militant was first founded in this world.

The original knightly order for the Church, the Order of the Black Sepulchres, was founded when pagan humans were raiding and killing the faithful throughout the realm. After being soundly defeated by the barbarians who worshiped hedonistic gods, the nine remaining members of the original Faith Militant came together to form this order, swearing to each other.

“There is not halt, there is not stop,

we cannot hinder and resign.

We must pay a debt for our slain brothers,

we Band of Nine.”

The Faith Militant can often go and defend the faithful when politics and treaties would prevent others from doing so. If a new convert in a heathen nation is being hunted for being an apostate of the heathen faith, soldiers of Canonist nations may be reluctant to help the convert for fear of breaking treaties or being the start of a war between nations. The Faith Militant cares not about these things. As they operate purely from the authority of the Church which largely stays neutral in politics, they would be able to assist without care for political reprisal.

Enforcers of Canon Law

The Faith Militant is also in charge of enforcing Canon Law among the Canonist realms. Canon Law, more formally known as the Codex of Ecclesiastical Laws of the Church of the Canon, are the rules that members of the faith are expected to follow.

Those that break these rules may be investigated by the Auditor of the Tribunal and his inquisitors. However, it is the Faith Militant that is in charge of bringing those who have broken Canon Law to trial, either willingly or by force. Canon Law is not generally about temporal punishment, but about bringing the impenitent to confession so that they become truly faithful again. That said, for exceptional crimes or exceptionally violent offenders, the Faith Militant must do what it can to protect the rest of the faithful from the offender. In the most extreme cases, that can and does include burning the heretic at the stake.

Seekers of Lost Relics

The Faith Militant are the seekers of lost relics. Due to the end of the old continents, pillaging by foreign invaders and thieves, and former unscrupulous clergymen, many of the ancient relics are no longer in the church’s possession. As holy warriors, it is the duty of the Faith Militant to venture into dark places and strange lands to find these lost relics. These missions can take multiple forms, but they take their cues from popular fiction such as National Treasure, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and finding Pieces of Eden in the Assassin’s Creed series of games.

Purgers of the Ibleespawn

The Faith Militant seeks out to destroy the Ibleespawn. These creatures of darkness corrupt the earth and the people in them. It is the duty of the knights of God to purge them from the lands and send them back to Iblees and the Void. They seek out the Heralds, Azdrazi, and dragonspawn. They purge the undead, the Xionites, and the Ibleespawn. They quest against the vampires and those irreparably corrupted by Voidal magics. The Faith Militant will find many unlikely bedfellows in this quest, often pairing up with organizations outside of the Canonist faith in order to take down these threats to the whole of the realm.

ROLEPLAY NICHES

The Legion of Light

The Legion of Light is the army of laymen that are part of the Faith Militant. They are the Order of Saint Nicolas’ men-at-arms from which knights of the Order are eventually recruited. These men swear the oath of office, known as the Oratio Fidelis, in front of their brethren and serve for terms of seven years. Exceptional members of the legion will be inducted as armigers, or officers, of the legion. These armigers will eventually pass through the five rings of trials to show their dedication and skill. Of those who pass, the most dedicated and pious will be selected to complete a knightly quest for induction as Knights of the Martyr.

The Legion of Light is the perfect place where you begin in the Faith Militant. Many will never choose to progress from here, as the requirements of the knights and monastics proves too great a burden for them. This allows players to have a temporary home in the Faith Militant, never swearing lifetime oaths, only seven OOC week oaths. Those exceptional armigers may be selected to carry the banner of the Faith Militant into battle or bear the Grandmaster’s shield or sword.

The House of Nicolites

For the remarkably pious members of the Faith Militant who see service in the Order as an extension of their service to the church, the House of Nicolites may be the ideal choice. These militant monks and nuns became part of the Faith Militant because they believe that it is their duty as monastics to protect the church and the faithful over other peaceful, scholastic pursuits. The Nicolites are also the healers of the Order, many of which operate in field hospitals during the battles the Order participates in.

The House of Nicolites is the ideal place for those who wish to participate in the Faith Militant while being more than simply laity. These monks and nuns swear lifetime oaths and are ordained into the church. They have duties separate from that of the rest of the laity in the Faith Militant, and often form their own abbeys and monasteries, led by an abbot. 

The Knights of the Martyr

The Knights of the Martyr are the leaders of the Faith Militant, steadfast defenders of the faithful. They swear lifetime oaths to the order and are forced to give up their name, titles, and claims in order to eliminate all other distractions and obligations in their life. Many take on names of martyrs or saints in history as given names, while taking a Flexio surname as a sort of epithet or sobriquet.

The process to become a knight is very detailed. The candidate, upon completing their knightly quest, must live a year in poverty and prayer, dressed only in sackcloth. At the end of the year, he is given ablution, anointed in holy oil by members of the priesthood, and draped in the black cloths of the Order. They are often bestowed a relic of the order to personally protect.

There are many positions of leadership among the knights of the Faith Militant. Each member of the Faith Militant’s leadership takes on a specific mantle of duty, whether it be the destruction of unholy creatures, the protection of the clergy, the training of the armsmen and armigers, the retrieval of lost relics, or leadership of the Legion of Light. At the head of the Faith Militant is the Grandmaster.

SECTION II - HISTORY

"May Your light be brought to all the dark places of this world, and may I be prepared to defend that light when the evil or ignorant strike against it."

The Holy Order of Knighthood that would eventually become the Order of Saint Nicolas was established within the Holy See of Vuillermoz in 1730 FA as the Palatine Guard Order of All-Saints. The Order was first led by Saint Harald Vuiller, who set forth the creeds which the Order follows today: the defense of the Church, the defense of the clergy, and the defense of Canon Law.

Upon the passing of Saint Harald into the Seven Skies in 1761, the Order was turned over to his son, Johan Vuiller. The next few decades of the Order’s existence was mired in politics. The Vuillers attempted to establish the Holy See as the hereditary seat of their house, with the regency over the Order as their hereditary title. Border disagreements with the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska led to the dissolution of the Order’s home in Vuillermoz and a new home found in the Holy Palatinate of Aquila.

Upon the election of Owyn III, an attempt was made to cleanse the order of these political elements. The House of Vuiller was stripped of their hereditary leadership of the Order, allowed to retain the title of Knight-Regent Emeritus, and the Order was reformed as the Supreme Order of Exalted Owyn. It would no longer be tied to House or Land, but be the protectors of the Faithful as a whole. However, this was not to be. After the Diet of Karosgrad where key leaders of the Order were martyred defending the assembled clergy, the Order devolved into a group of men using the Order to gain temporal respect as Holy Sers. These men forsook their oaths to the Church, choosing instead to follow excommunicated Canonist Princes and gain glory in temporal wars.

The Order of Saint Nicolas was formed in 1868 by High Pontiff Tylos II, Holy Sir Edwin and Holy Sir August after the dissolution of the Supreme Order of Exalted Owyn. The Order absorbed the already established monastic Order of Blessed Nicolas. This holy order of knighthood is patronized by Saint Nicolas the Martyr, patron saint of armorers, loyalists, and Canon Law. In the spirit of Saint Nicolas, the Order swears loyalty to the Church alone, acting as soldiers of GOD in a Legion of Light. Though outnumbered by the forces of darkness, they know that GOD’s power is absolute, and they can weather any foe that threatens the Holy Mother Church.

SECTION III - COAT OF ARMS

The Coat of Arms of the Order of Saint Nicolas is a Lorraine Cross Argent. The top bar of which represents the Seven Skies, whilst the one below represents that which is temporal. The warcry of the Order takes after the old one of Saint Nicolas himself, which is 'Pro Deo, Pro Canon!'

SECTION IV - ARMATURE

Arms and armor for members of the Order of Saint Nicolas the Martyr will be provided by the office of the Seneschal.

SECTION V - MEMBERSHIP

The Order of Saint Nicolas is organized with three separate branches under a singular high command. The first branch is the Legion of Light, laymen tasked with protecting the Faithful in times of need. The second branch is the Knights of the Martyr, sworn Faithful unto death with guarding the Faithful, the Holy Mother Church, and the Law of the Canon. The last branch is the Monastic House of Nicolites, martial monks and nuns that have sworn to always protect the clergy and the High Pontiff with their life. To qualify for membership in the Order, prospective applicants must: 

• Have attained the age of majority;

• Have been baptized as a Canonist and practiced the faith devoutly for at least one year;

• Not have any public notoriety or cause for doubt of their character;

• Forsake all other oaths of service and loyalty, and;

• Be able to swear either lifetime oaths or a seven year term of service, known as a Septannum.

SECTION VI - HIERARCHY AND STRUCTURE

THE LEGION OF LIGHT

AUXILIARY - The reservists of the Order of Saint Nicolas. They do not swear vows, but make a promise of obedience. Auxiliaries may discharge their promise at any time. Auxiliary is an appropriate rank for layman advisors and tradesmen, particularly those providing part-time medical or construction services. Auxiliaries can hold no position of leadership in the Order of Saint Nicolas. Auxiliary is the only rank appropriate for Canonist priests, who are forbidden from drawing the blood of other Canonists.

ARMSMAN - The soldiers of the Legion of Light and oathed under the Oratio Fidelis. These soldiers are oathed to the Holy Mother Church for a septannum of service. These are usually younger men who cannot commit to an active lifetime of service in the field, but who are willing to aid the Holy Mother Church where she may need it. Armsmen refer to each other with the title of “Fellow.”

ARMIGER - The officers of the Legion of Light, it is the Armiger who leads in and out of battle, the final stop of all enlisted before entering the fold of becoming a Knight of the Martyr.

THE ARMIGER OF THE BANNER - The Armiger of the Banner is the honorary Armiger who is given the Banner of the Martyr, a high honor within the Order of Saint Nicolas the Martyr.

THE SHIELD-BEARER - Bearer of the Grandmaster’s Shield, this Armiger serves as a primary bodyguard and protector to the Order’s elite.

THE SWORD-BEARER - Bearer of the Grandmaster’s Sword, this Armiger serves as the Grandmaster’s champion in duels of single combat.

THE NICOLITES

NOVICE - Apprentice monks and nuns. They are under the care of the Abbot or Abbess and spend their time learning the ways of the order and its duties. Given they have taken no vows, they do not wear any particular uniform or emblem and are addressed by their given name.

MONASTIC - Monks and nuns are the backbone of the learned institutions of the Church. The monks and nuns will be learning combat training and The Holy Scrolls. They are to also practice their hand at medicine to heal those in need and their fellow brothers and sisters after a fight. They are required to wear their uniform and emblem at all times. They are to be addressed as 'Brother' if monks and ‘Sister’ if nuns.

PRIOR - The Prior, or Prioress if female, who is approved by the High Pontiff is a title given to the head of a Nicolite Order’s monastery. Priors are master theologians who train both priests, monks and nuns in ways of secular and clerical intellectual traditions. The Prior is responsible for training all new monks and teaching them combat training, medicine and botany.

GRAND PRIOR  - The Head Priest of the Nicolites and the appointed priest of the Church to the Order of Saint Nicolas. He is the senior advisor to the Grandmaster. It is the Grand Prior’s primary task to ensure that the Order never strays from the precepts of the Canon, keeping their eyes always fixed towards GOD and His will.

THE KNIGHTS OF THE MARTYR

KNIGHT OF THE MARTYR - A Knight of the Martyr is truly a fearless knight, and secure on every side, for his soul is protected by the armor of faith, just as his body is protected by the armor of steel. He is thus doubly-armed, and need fear neither demons nor men. Selected only by the High Pontiff, certain Armigers may be elevated to the rank of knight. They take lifetime oaths to the Holy Mother Church. A knight of the Order of Saint Nicolas is entitled to the title “Holy Ser” or “Holy Dame” as appropriate to their gender. The rank of Knight is permanent until death or discharge from the Order through Canon Law.

EQUESTER-VENATOR - Knight of the hunt. It is he who is responsible for searching the realm for unholy monstrosities and creatures. The Equester-Venator will then command the Knights of the Martyr to quell these creatures.

EQUESTER-MURUS - Knight of the wall. It is he who secures the protection of the clergy at public events and commands the Knights of the Martyr when security is needed. The Equester-Murus is also charged with organizing the advancement of engineering within the order.

EQUESTER-LECTOREM - Knight of the text. It is he who garners knowledge of the realm and arranges the training of Armigers (In addition to the Armiger’s respective Knight) in terms of combat, jousting and the Holy Scrolls.

EQUESTER-ARTIFICIUM - Knight of the artifact. It is he who is charged with organizing the retrieval of any lost holy relic.

MASTER OF THE LEGION | MANUS DEXTRA - Commander of the Legion of Light. It is he who manages the new and old armsmen who serve as the bulk of the Order of Saint Nicolas. Alongside this, he also has the duty of managing the stores and maintaining the Order through its day-to-day trials. The right hand man of the Grandmaster.

GRANDMASTER - The mandated representative of the Pontifex Maximus, who wields executive authority over all matters pertaining to the Order of Saint Nicolas until established otherwise by the Pontifex Maximus. Ex officio, he has authority over the Knights of the Martyr, the Legion of Light, the Nicolite Order and all laymen sworn in service to the Church. The Grandmaster has been granted the titles of “His Reverend Excellency the Grandmaster of the Order of Saint Nicolas, Custodian of the Faith & the Aurum Shield of Saint Nicolas.” The Grandmaster will appoint the position of Manus Dextra. It is the Manus Dextra who will be right hand man of the Grandmaster and will succeed him. 

SECTION VII - JURISDICTION

The Order of Saint Nicolas is a Holy Order of Knighthood, created and maintained under the authority of and under the ultimate command of the High Pontiff, as set out in the Codex of Ecclesiatical Laws of the Church of the Canon, Book II, Title IV, Chapter 1.

In all cases, the Order of Saint Nicolas acts as bodyguards of the priesthood and defenders of the laity. They act under the authority of the Grandmaster in all matters military and act under the authority of the Pontifical Auditor in the enforcement of Canon Law and investigations therein.

Their duties are three-fold; acting foremost as the shield of the clergy, the monastic, and faithful; acting as the Legion of Light against the darkness, seeking the shadow of evil wherever it dwells, and defeating the monster, the vampire, the drakaar, the Ibleespawn, and other beings of darkness; and acting as enforcers of Canon Law, seeking out the unpenitent faithful and bringing them back into communion with the Holy Mother Church.

SECTION VIII - THE ORATIO FIDELIS

Upon each Septannum of Service, soldiers within the Legion of Light must swear the Oratio Fidelis in front of the Master of the Legion and their brothers:

It is we who stand as guardians of the High Pontiff.

It is we who shall protect the Creator's faithful from evil, whenever possible.

It is we who hunt all worshippers of evil and practitioners of darkness.

It is we who keep watch in the lands of God, and uphold peace and order.

It is we who shall be the Vanguard of any Holy Crusades.

It is we who shall carry out the sentences of those convicted of crimes against the Faith and the Holy See.

It is we who shall train the citizen militia in times of need.

It is we who share, with tolerance and understanding, the word of the Lord.

It is we who maintain a powerful and unwavering faith in the Creator and His word.

It is we who shall seek to embody Horen's Virtue and Owyn's Spirit.

It is we who strive to deliver upon the faithful the embodiments of Godfrey's Gospel and Siegmund's Auspices.

It is we who obey, without question, the hierarchy of the Order, and the High Pontiff.

It is we who shall embrace our fellow soldiers as Brothers, and treat them as such.

It is we who know that to violate the Aurum Code is to be condemned to death.

If I should falter in my course, send me never to the skies above.

If I should succeed, bestow unto me His blessings, forevermore.

For, now I march into a valley through which there is no path.

And the stones cascade behind me, to seal my retreat.

Though in this valley, I find my Brothers;

Now I am named Guardian of His Flock.

SECTION IX - TESTS OF HOLY KNIGHTHOOD

To be chosen for Holy Knighthood by the High Pontiff is no easy endeavor, the Armiger in question having to endure multiple trials meant to test their mental and physical capabilities. The first set of trials being in the form of their Armiger Rings.

After each trial and when the squire's Knight has decided they are of ample proficiency they will be rewarded with a ring. Only when an Armiger has received three of these rings will they be seen as capable enough to move on to their Knightly Quest.

The rings are as follows:

• St. Peter of Gaekrin’s Ring (Swordsmanship)

• St. Daniel of Al’Khazar’s Ring (Education of the Holy Scrolls)

• St. Edmond of Lachsin’s Ring (Horsemanship)

• St. Evaristus of Paridisus’ Ring (Hunting)

• St. Thomas of Ager’s Ring (Smithing)

After this, the Armiger will move on to his Knightly Quest. This is what the Armiger was trained for, and as such it is the final step to Holy Knighthood. It is a dangerous task that will test the Armiger’s mind and heart. Typically, the Armiger’s knight will choose a personalized quest, but some known quests given to Armigers are as follows:

THE TEST OF HOREN - To speak the Creator's Will is to have a Tongue of Fire, the tongue which breaks all barriers of language and communication through His Power. The candidate must convert a heathen, one who has not had the joy to hear the Canon, and bring him fully into the fold of our community.

THE TEST OF OWYN - The Creator’s Wrath brings fear and awe across the plains of existence, in every heart and mind of every being which has walked and thought. Through discipline and faith, one may acquire the Creator’s Blessing in the art of combat, to spar and wield the weapons of His Divine Will. The candidate must defeat a heretic, heathen, darkspawn, or Ibleespawn in battle.

THE TEST OF GOD - The Vicar of God is the chief priest, representative of His Divine Will. Through his words mark the words of God Himself, and so the tasks delivered by him are also Divine in nature and spirit. The candidate must accomplish a task given him by His Holiness.

SECTION X - OATH OF HOLY KNIGHTHOOD

Armigers in the Legion of Light who have exhibited exceptional dedication or bravery may be recommended by the Grandmaster to the High Pontiff for elevation to Holy Knighthood. After a year of prayer and fasting while wearing sackcloth, the candidate’s former life and name is symbolically shed and he is reborn as a Holy Knight of GOD. At the end of the year, he is given ablution, anointed in holy oil by members of the priesthood, and draped in the black cloths of the Order. He, then, recites the following oath while kneeling in front of the High Pontiff.

High Pontiff: “Here comes now, before GOD, a candidate for Holy Knighthood, anointed by holy oil. Lo now does his Vicar ask the Custodian of the Faith. Is this man worthy of this position?”

Grandmaster: “He is worthy.”

High Pontiff: “Who is this man before me?”

The Grandmaster states the name of the candidate.

High Pontiff: “Lo now witness this. In front of GOD and His Vicar, [name of candidate] is dead, his time on this earth complete. A new man standeth before the Laurel, cleansed of sin, name, and title, merely a humble servant of GOD. Does this humble servant swear to never falter, to obey and guard the laws of GOD, who is the one true creator?”

Candidate: “He so swears.”

High Pontiff: “Servant of GOD, speak now your oaths in front of GOD.”

Candidate: “This humble servant of GOD vows to be the sword of the Church of the Canon, shield to Priesthood of GOD, and bulwark of the Faithful. He vows to fight for them when they cannot protect themselves. He vows to resist the temptations of Iblees and to strike down those who have fallen under his dark rule and other creatures of darkness. He vows to be fair and just, defending beggar and bishop alike.”

High Pontiff: “Who is this man before me?”

The Grandmaster states the new name of the knight.

High Pontiff: “Then, rise, [name of knight], and join your brothers, taking the urn of [name of saint]. You are a Knight of the Martyr, forever changed and consecrated to GOD, sworn to the Most High and His Holy Mother Church from this breath until your last.”

Edwin de Sarkozy sat on the streets of Karosgrad. For the past thirty years, he claimed no home except the humble abode of his tent and whatever shelter he could acquire. He lofted up the bowl of soup clasped within his hands, bringing it forth to his mouth. Then, Edwin thought back to his youth.

The sound of lance shattering against shield and a horse’s whinny reverberated in his thoughts. The Supreme Order of Exalted Owyn, of which he was a part of, had enough knights to hold their own tourneys. St. Edmond’s Beauclair, a fort he had designed, was warm and filled with sunshine.They were happy, then. Content with their profession of spilling blood to protect the innocent and holy.

 If only he had known. 

Rain pelted him back to the present. A lowly crier announced that year’s bull, and the old knight was handed a paper. His singular eye scanned the paper, noticing then he had been named Apostolic General of the church. It was a position he had long yearned for in his youth, though now he took it out of necessity. Still, it pleased him, and he bore a smile upon his face. 

“So, you’ll fail them again?” He knew that voice. Vukosav Radomavic was his squire, his closest friend. That was before he turned vampyr and unholy. Edwin shot to his feet and around to peer at the voice, only to notice nothing. A trick of the mind, perhaps. His thoughts drifted back to the Beauclair.

Holy Sir Vukosav’s horse came to a halt, the knight’s black sword raised in the air in victory. Applause from the crowds, and a bow from Edwin, whom had been thrown by the lance. “Finally got your aim down, then?” Called Edwin with a laugh to Vukosav. 

“I learned from the best! Perhaps I’ll teach you a thing or two now?” replied he with a smile, and reared his steed. Edwin returned to his seat next to Apostolic General Armand de Rennes, whom was once his mentor. “Strange how quick they learn. One moment you’re showing them how to properly strap on their armor, the next they’re the adoration of the crowd. He was a good squire, and he’ll be a better knight.”

The old knight put down the paper, the crier still announcing the news in the background. He looked to his sword, which lay by his side in the rain. It glinted with Aurum, its pommel fashioned into a cross. An aged sigh came from his scarred lips, and Edwin’s head hung as the memories returned. 

“The bastard, how could he? I took him off the streets. I fed him, armored him. I taught the man how to swing a damned sword.” Edwin paced, face filled with rage. He pivoted to the Lector. “And you have proof of this? Proof Vukosav is this unholy? Proof he drinks the blood of the innocent and rides with a dark cohort against the clergy?” The Lector supplied the documents. Edwin sat, bringing his hands to his face. “Leave me.”

The door slammed shut and the knight was left with his thoughts alone. He looked to his saddlebag, and it was not long before he rode away from the order with the moon on his back. He fled. 

And now he had returned. The shadow of the Basilica sheltered him from the rain. Beside him now was Holy Sir August ‘The Just’. Edwin took his hand and rose to his feet. “I’m done running. Come, brother, we have a wrong to right.” The two aged knights marched for the Basilica, and not long thereafter several doves emerged from such, carrying a letter to the realms:

“To the Holy Knights of the Supreme Order of Exalted Owyn

It’s been many years since St. Edmond’s Beauclair. Since our jousts and battles with the devils. I write to you today not because of my own aspirations, but out of necessity. I have failed this order. In it’s time of need, I fled from my own creation. The remaining knights either joined Vukosav’s cohorts or devoted themselves to their own secular ambitions. Our order only survived by the efforts of Holy Sir August and Apostolic General Faux Amati with her brave compatriots, including the Sainted Nicholas.

 I ask you to look at the state of the lands. Canonist brothers bludgeon each other and the innocent are caught in the fray. It is a danger for the clergy to travel, and strangely a greater danger for them to stay put behind walls. It does not have to be so. I write to you, men of the lance and steed, answer His Holiness Tylos II’s bull. Return to the Holy See and join your past compatriots to protect the church and all that is holy. Return and reclaim your place in the Seven Skies, for all that is just and holy.

Investigational Report of the Order of Blessed Nicolas

on the 6th of Sigismund's End, 1862

The blessings of the Lord GOD be upon the Dicastery for Canon Law, their servant shepherds, and His Holiness, Tylos II.

Please find attached the findings of the investigation of the Order of Blessed Nicolas into the desecration of holy sites within the Diocese of Albarosa. It is the duty of a cleric to inquire personally should he believe that a breach of canon law has occurred. Those investigating were careful not to taint the reputation of the faithful, always inquiring in their investigations about the ownership of the shrine and never mentioning its desecration. The Order submits this report to receive consultation with at least two judges as to whether the matter requires the attention of an ecclesiastical court. Thank you, and GOD bless.

Findings of Fact:

1. In the year of our Lord 1855, an abbey in the diocese of Albarosa, upon the removal of locks barring entry to the place which were placed by the Vuiller family, was renamed to the Abbey at the Crossroads and was kept up by Sister Silence of the Order of Blessed Nicolas.
2. Adjacent to the abbey was a building once run by Sir Jarad Munnel Vuillerian known as the Destiny's Crossroads Tavern and Inn. This same tavern was, in the year of our Lord 1852, the location where a blessed event took place, when soldiers on both sides of the Tripartite War laid down their arms to spend Tuvmas together in peace and fellowship.
3. In the year of our Lord 1856, the Abbey at the Crossroads and the adjacent building was given to the church for the purposes of conversion into a monastery and domicile for the monks of a new order of monks to be formed by Father Jeremy of Sedan. The Church exercised temporal authority over that land.
4. In the year of our Lord 1858, the first floor of the adjacent building was consecrated as holy ground and was bestowed the name of the Shrine of the Wartime Truce, in memory of the Tuvmas truce. Furthermore, the Grave of the Soldiers of Broken Truces was placed just outside the shrine.
5. The church, through Sister Silence, maintained the Abbey and the Shrine, guarding securely the offerings given by pilgrims at the shrine through the Siege of Haverlock and the city's subsequent destruction by infernal forces.
6. In the year of our Lord 1862, Sister Silence left the Abbey for a period of several months to take a pilgrimage to the lands near the diocese of Pocitinata Maika, where she evangelized and meditated.
7. Upon returning to the Abbey after her pilgrimage that same year, she discovered that the Shrine of the Wartime Truce had been desecrated and the Grave of the Soldiers of Broken Truces defaced. In its place, the Shrine had been remade into the Destiny's Crossroads Tavern and Inn.
8. Upon alerting the church to this desecration, the Order of Blessed Nicolas embarked on an investigation of this desecration.
9. At no time was the shrine deconsecrated in order to turn it over for profane use.
10. The Abbey at the Crossroads was found to have not been molested.
11. Upon investigation of the tax offices in New Providence, the "Crossroad Abbey" and the "Crossroads Tavern" were for rent to interested parties at the price of fifty marks per year each.
12. Sister Silence questioned the City Clerk, Sir Jarad Munnel Vuillerian about the ownership of the "Crossroads Tavern." Sir Jarad said that he knew nothing about it.
13. Less than a month after being questioned, Sir Jarad Munnel Vuillerian posted a notice announcing the grand reopening of the Destiny's Crossroads Tavern and Inn.
14. In this notice, Sir Jarad Munnel Vuillerian confessed to the desecration of the shrine, stating that "Destiny Crossroads Tavern and Inn was quickly restored by Sir Jarad Munel with his Orenian banners holding strong."
15. In this notice, Sir Jarad made claim that the "dwarves turned the abbey into a shrine for their pagan gods."

Notes upon Canon Law:

1. Shrines are sacred places of pilgrimage for the faithful, made holy ground through the Rite of Consecration for the purpose of advancing virtuous living.
2. No iniquity should be perpetrated in sacred places.
3. A holy land is a region over which the Church through the High Pontiff possesses temporal authority, which is consecrated for a holy purpose.
4. Only a High Pontiff may deconsecrate holy lands to cede them or relegate them to profane use.
5. A person who steals from the Church has committed a crime against Virtue.
6. A person who sells a sacred place, or the use thereof, has committed a crime against Ecclesiastical Authority.
7. A person who obstructs the justice of the Church has committed a crime against Ecclesiastical Authority.

Observational Report of the Order of Blessed Nicolas

on the 4th of Harren's Folly, 1862

The blessings of the Lord GOD be upon the flock of Albarosa, their servant shepherds, and His Holiness, Tylos II.

Sister Silence, upon returning from a pilgrimage to the southern lands, discovered that the Shrine of the Wartime Truce in Lower Petra had been desecrated by members of the Orenian nobility and turned into a tavern. Further, the Tomb of the Soldiers of Broken Truces had been defaced and desecrated as well. It is the Order's belief that this grave irreverence of sacred places is a crime against Virtue. The Order will undertake an investigation to determine which specific individuals have committed these acts. A report on our findings will be filed with the Auditor of the Tribunal.

Aid & Relief Report of the Order of Blessed Nicolas

on the 1st of Godfrey's Triumph, 1861

The blessings of the Lord GOD be upon the flock of Albarosa, their servant shepherds, and His Holiness, Tylos II.

The Order of Blessed Nicolas set out in the month of Owyn's Flame, 1861, to bury the dead at the Battle at the Crossroads, clean and till the earth, and give proper burials and blessings to the dead. His Imperial Highness, who is the caretaker of these lands, demanded that we only bury and give proper rites to the Canonist dead found upon the battlefield, tossing all pagan and non-human descendants from the cliffs of Lower Petra. While the Order found the command detestable, we attempted to comply. An exhaustive search of open dwarven, elven, and orcish records was conducted to find baptismal rolls for those who may have lost their lives in Lower Petra. Alas, due to apparent clerical error, none could be found. Therefore, in an effort to ensure that no Canonist was mistakenly denied a proper burial, all bodies recovered from the battlefield were buried and given the proper sacrament.

Though it took the better part of a month, the Order of Blessed Nicolas is proud to say that the land around the Abbey at the Crossroads and the Shrine to the Wartime Truce has been cleared of the memories of the battle held there. Fresh grass has been sown and flowers planted. Additionally, the dead at the battle have been laid to rest in the new Cemetery of the Fallen at the Crossroads on the road leading to Redenford. Alas, it appears that the tree at the crossroads may be forever stained by blood, an eternal memorial to the dead.

Observational Report of the Order of Blessed Nicolas

on the 1st of Owyn's Flame, 1860

The blessings of the Lord GOD be upon the flock of Providentia, their servant shepherds, and His Holiness, Tylos II.

Sister Silence, upon taking respite within the Basilica of the Argentate Star on the above date, did find signs placed on the exterior and interior of the church by a certain 'HH,' who makes claim to being the coadjutor of the Church. It is her understanding that there is no clergy member by that name. Given that the church's welcome sign has been continuously defaced over the past few months by schismatics renaming the basilica after 'Exalted' Darfey, she can only assume that said 'HH' is either a member of the schismatics, considers himself a self-appointed priest against Canon Law, or has been appointed by the Anathemata. The doors to the upper floors of the basilica were barred by padlocks left by this 'HH,' but Sister Silence gained entry anyway in order to assess any damage done. Thankfully, this barring of church doors appears to have been caught before any major vandalism occurred. Still, Sister Silence found more locked doors in the upper levels of the basilica that were most likely done by this 'HH.'

1. Priests in other Dioceses be reassigned to Providentia
2. The Order of Blessed Nicolas to keep watch over the Basilica of the Argentate Star to prevent vandalism of church lands
3. Deacons or Acolytes of Providentia to do an inventory of all items within the cathedral

After Action Report of the Order of Blessed Nicolas

on the 16th of Owyn's Flame, 1858

Sister Silence was enroute from Savoy to Oren, when she came upon a group of armored men and ISA soldiers with weapons drawn against a helpless old woman just outside Sedan. The sister intervened to protect the old woman, whereas combat ensued, the woman was killed by one of the armored men. The armored man's compatriots then left in the direction of Havelock where it is Sister Silence's understanding that they burned down the cathedral there. 

It is Sister Silence's belief that the man was Sir Jarad Vuillerian. An investigation should be able to be completed to confirm this. This is most concerning as Sir Jarad, part of a party that burned down a cathedral, was set to be inducted into the Order of the Black Sepulchre.

Observational Report of the Order of Blessed Nicolas

on the 4th of Horen's Calling, 1857

The blessings of the Lord GOD be upon the flock of Providentia, their servant shepherds, and His Holiness, Tylos II.

Sister Silence, upon taking respite within the Basilica of the Argentate Star on the above date, did make contact with the Lord Mayor of New Providence, along with two more gentlemen, rooting through the chests and barrels within the cathedral. When confronted, the Lord Mayor protested that he was allowed to do so as this was "his place" and that it was okay as "he was a Canonist." Sister Silence observed the individuals for the remainder of their stay within the cathedral without confrontation, although they quickly vacated the area.

1. Cardinal Providentia to put doors on the larder.
2. Deacons or Acolytes of Providentia to do an inventory of all items within the cathedral

One. You either vow yourself to the service of GOD and His Holiness for the Order commands that you should owe no oaths to anyone except GOD and His Holiness. 

Two. Upon entering an army of a Canonist country and making a vow to a liege who is not GOD or His Holiness; you shall be stripped from your title as a Holy Sir or Esquire - For you have decided to turn your back upon your brothers and sisters and your armor and all the rings that you have obtained shall be taken into custody by the Supreme Order of Exalted Owyn and you will be restricted from joining the Order again; unless His Holiness insists upon your return.

We pray to GOD that you; servants and protectors of the flock and clergy shall take this ultimatum into consideration for you are now being granted the time to remove yourself from the army that you have joined or the consequences mentioned shall be active at once.

I. INTRODUCTION

The Most Supreme and Holy Order of Exalted Owyn is looking for recruits to join the ranks of the army of our Holy Mother Church. Those who are willing to join must devote themselves to the Church and serve the clergy in the years to come. We are soldiers of GOD and we will be responsible for the safety of our clergy and its flock; This is why we need you, faithful Canonists to join our ranks. And so; once you are recruited you shall be a warrior of GOD and the Church only.

II. MEMBERSHIP

The documents of the Supreme Order state that the new recruits must be upholding the following conditions on becoming a soldier to the Supreme Order, and should those conditions describe you then you are free to become apart of the Supreme Order:

• Have attained the age of 14;

• Have been baptized as a Canonist and practiced the faith devoutly for at least one year;

• Not have any public notoriety or cause for doubt of their character;

• Not owe oaths of service which would override their service to the Church;

• Be able to swear either lifetime oaths or a seven year term of service, known as a Septannum.

III. THE OATH

Once you have done all your training as a recruit; you are to be sent on a final-quest to prove yourself to the Supreme Order and its Commanders; His Holiness, The Apostolic-General, The Equestor-Imperators and the Armigers. The oath goes as following;

“I vow to never falter, to obey and guard the laws of GOD, who is the one true Creator.

I vow to be the sword and shield of the Church of the Canon and her faithful, to fight for them when they cannot protect themselves.

I vow to resist the temptations of Iblees and strike down those who have fallen under his dark rule."

With the response of His Holiness being;

“Then rise, [Name], and join your brothers as Holy Sir/Dame [Name and Epithet]. 

You are a Equestor of the Supreme Order of Exalted Owyn and the Church of the Canon, sworn to protect the people of the Canonist faith.

A MISSION FOR THE FAITHFUL CANONISTS

Dear brothers and sisters in arms,

I have witnessed a vile crime being done within the Providence Basilica. A dwarf has been desacrating an altar and as I wanted to escort him he held a bomb; we can not let such crime go unpunished. Which is why we have his Holiness's permission to capture this man if the Imperial State Army has not already. 

For that I would like to inform all the Canonist nations that the man must be captured at once for he must face Canonist trial. The dwarf has injured me and was threatening to blow up the Providence Basilica with the Cardinal Providentia and faithful Canonists being present. The criminal goes by the name Keorn, if that sounds familiar to some; this is the man that MUST be found before it is too late.

Once you find this man; try to capture him - if force is being used by the criminal, try to finish him but be careful while doing so. One the criminal is captured; bring him to your dungeons so he may be escorted to the Holy See for a Canonist Trial and if need be a trial done by the Empire.

May GOD grant you all strength and courage in this endeavor.

This is my story on how I got from being a squire, to a Holy Sir; my struggles in my training and how I succeeded in my final quest. The story of how a eighteen year old boy became a Holy Sir in the Most Holy and Supreme Order of Exalted Owyn.
 

✠ THE SQUIRE DAYS ✠

I, Philip Hughes de Rosius; remember it as if it was yesterday. I sent my letter to the Holy Mother Church to become a Squire to the Most Supreme and Holy Order of Exalted Owyn. It was during the Social Season that I got to hear of me being accepted into the Order; and I was quite surprised. I went to Dobrov for my first Squire training; a duel it was - while having Holy Sir August Jazloviecki as my trainer and Knight during a duel against a fellow Squire; I was the victorious one.

It took up to five years of training to get to my final-quest; I obtained four of the five rings that were necessary to do so; which were Swordsmanship, Horsemanship, Blacksmith, and Education on the Scrolls. But first I had to write a thesis as tasked by Holy Sir August Jazloviecki. The years were long; but GOD gave me my strength to hold on to the tasks that had to be done. The motivation for my final quest was GOD, my wife Elaine and my newborn daughter Genevieve de Rosius; I simply could not allow it to let them down if I had failed on my final quest. Before my final quest; I had spent a few days of training with Holy Sir August in preparation of my final quest.

And so I arrived with Holy Sir August in the lands where a strange creature had been seen. I was riding off on my own as Holy Sir August told me to discover what this creature was; and so I did. A peasant came to me  and told me that there was a monster that had killed his wife; and so I followed the peasant into the mountains and we discovered a strange creature. It was a creature with the head and wings of a bird but the claws of a beast; I charged at it and started to fight against this monstrous being; and so the harpy clawed my right arm and right leg, but I did not give up.

I swung my blade at the harpy it’s body and head, until it would finally give up. And so it did; The harpy fell down and a large screech would have been heard from the mountains. The harpy was suffering from utter pain, and I decapitated it; showing it a quick mercy. I bound the head to my horse to drag it to the location where I had to show it as proof of my kill; and so I did. Then, the final quest was concluded and I had to wait for me to be knighted by His Holiness High Pontiff Everard VI. 

✠ THE KNIGHTING ✠

As word got to the High Pontiff; a time and date for the knighting was made. A few of House de Rosius and my distant relatives came to attend. As I was nervously waiting for the High Pontiff to arrive; I started to do a prayer for  him and me family to remain as faithful as they are now. Then His Holiness had arrived; and so he told me to kneel to knight me.

His Holiness then told me to recite the oath; and so I did: 

“I vow to never falter, to obey and guard the laws of GOD, who is the one true Creator.

I vow to be the sword and shield of the Church of the Canon and her faithful, to fight for them when they cannot protect themselves.

I vow to resist the temptations of Iblees and strike down those who have fallen under his dark rule.”

When I had recited it, His Holiness High Pontiff Everard VI told me; 

“Then rise, Philip, and join your brothers as Holy Sir Philip the Kind, and be as loving to all as our God is. Vy are an Equestor of the Supreme Order of Exalted Owyn and the Church of Canon, sworn to protect the people of the Canonist faith. Vy shall be fair and just, defending the innocent no matter their rank: Beggar and bishop alike.”

And so I became a Holy Sir and Equestor of the Church, it was GOD and my faith that has inspired me to reach such. For it is GOD that we defend for and for GOD who we fight. This was my story; on my journey from a Squire to a Holy Sir and Equestor of GOD and the Church.

TREATISE ON THE MYSTERIOUS BLESSED MAURICIO OF AZOG

“An orcish champion who by popular legend is said to have entered the pits of Hell itself, and did battle successfully with the forces of Iblees.” This is the reason why Mauricio of Azog was beatified. Yet the Church speaks nothing else upon the orcish warrior, the only info we have being this, and later on the church even simplifying his accomplishments more changing it from doing battle “with the forces of Iblees” to “many of the Enemy’s servants” An orc blessed, one which supposedly walked through the gates of hell to fight the forces of Iblees head on, is quite unique yet it as if such a story of a orc is kept silent, hidden in plain sight. Information cannot be clearly gained about the story of this orc, or the legacy he left behind. I am not in a position, nor have the knowledge to say whether or not this is the intention of the Church. However, I deem it fit to have such a story shrouded no more.

Through the use of old records, letters, decrees, and many other documents found in libraries throughout Almaris. I have been able to compile a rather basic, and in truth not in depth overview of Blessed Mauricio of Azog’s life and feats from public information.

The beginning of his life is shrouded in darkness. Nothing is known of his upbringing or even when his early adult years began. One can assume however due to other sources that Blessed Mauricio of Azog was originally raised within Urguan, a unique upbringing as such for an orc, automatically hinting at perhaps the tolerance Mauricio of Azog may have later on his life.

The time between then and his first years within the United Aegis Coalition (U.A.C) are shrouded behind a lack of records. What we do know is that Mauricio of Azog, perhaps either lived with Kal'Urguan, or visited the capital city of the Dwarves. For there is where Mauricio of Azog would be recruited into the United Aegis Coalition.

During his time in the U.A.C it was nothing but hardship, a most notable occasion being where himself and a group of his fellow soldiers were tasked with infiltrating an undead keep. This would prove to be unsuccessful, resulting in many of these soldiers dying, and many of those who survived deserting the U.A.C all together.

When the failed rebranding of the U.A.C to the Followers of Aeriel occurred, Mauricio left due to his view upon what the U.A.C had become, bringing along with him gold and diamonds he stole from the vault of the Followers of Aeriel, granting him enough funds to purchase himself a residence within Al'Khazar. His time within the capital of Oren is like his upbringing unrecorded, according to other accounts seemingly not being anything of note.

Undead continued to ravage the lands however, many fleeing because of it. However, Mauricio remained where he was until he was invited to join the Teutonic Order led by Gaius Marius. Once joining the Teutonic Order, Mauricio received backlash due to his race, many within the order disapproving of him due to Mauricio of Azog being an orc.

The Teutonic Order compared to that of the U.A.C was vastly different for Mauricio. Because of this, the orc began to question what his true home and place was within the world. Receiving permission to take a leave of absence, he traveled to the home of the orcs, Krugmar. Here he saw what he supposedly described as primitive savagery. Disapproving of the actions and beliefs of the nation of Krugmar. Unable to accept the belief that all orcs acted in such a way he ventured on to try and find orcs more similar to him.

Whether by luck or by the will of God, he stumbled upon that of his brother, Urik Azog, a man who he had been separated from since his time in the U.A.C. His brother brought him back to Fort Azog, the home of the Orc Clan of Azog. There the clan chief took a liking to him, and offered to adopt him into the Azog Clan. Obviously the Blessed would accept the offer, taking on the name Maur Azog.

He assisted the clan through the practice of engineering creating defenses that allowed themselves to even fend off attacks from the likes of the Dwarven Military. Along with this he also helped in making of the laws of Clan Azog, which ironically enough were simple and seemingly of orcish nature. The singular law stating “Azog Shall Never Kill Azog”

He spent some time with that of his newly found family and clan, yet eventually he would be called back by the Teutonic Order. Almost as soon as he returned he would be ‘shipped out’, but rather ‘shipped down’, down to the Nether. He was chosen as one of the few who would represent the nations of Aegis against Iblees. The group proceeding fast, yet infighting quickly began with the chosen of Renatus, striking against the chosen of their rival nation Hanseti, Mauricio being one of these chosen of Hanseti. A chosen of Renatus would be killed by one of the Hanseti. Yet the conflict ceased as more undead began to attack them. The Hanseti would be separated from the main group, eventually returning to find that all chosen of the Elven, and Orc nations gone. Yet prior to the life of one of their own being lost to save the other two. 

When the Hanseti returned to the main group, now within the citadel in which they were tasked with destroying, only the dwarves, Renatus, and Hanseti remained. The Renatus chosen, accused the Hanseti of striking first, the dwarves however ignored it and wished for them to focus upon the task at hand. The dwarves would continue on first, yet as soon as they did the doorway which they entered would collapse leaving the dwarves separated from the rest.

With the dwarves gone, the chosen of Renatus struck upon the Hanseti once more, the only two of them remaining being Maur Azog and a fellow orc. The fighting was brutal, filled with hatred from either side against the other, due to long lasting rivalries, leaving both sides to forget about why they were in the Nether. Eventually the fighting ended with only Blessed Mauricio of Azog standing. Walking towards a cliff where he had seen his fellow orc fall, he saw this orc grasping onto the cliff, with a chosen of Renatus wrapped around his legs. With a few final words reminding Blessed Mauricio of Azog of why they were done here, he bid him farewell, and then let go. Thus, bringing both the last chosen of Renatus and himself to their deaths. Now only Mauricio of Azog and the dwarves remained with the chance of defeating the forces of Ibless.

Mauricio along with the dwarves fought against undead conjurers, travelling farther down and deeper into the citadel. Through their efforts the citadel had began to collapse, the mission was a success. The dwarves quickly began to escape, but Blessed Mauricio of Azog, could no longer move on. He was filled with grief and yet also accomplishment. He had completed the mission, and yet he had lost his fellow Hanseti. He lay prepared to die, yet by the will of God, he was given more time. He was brought back to Aegis, tended by members of the Teutonic Order, and lived his remaining years amongst his family, Clan Azog. In 1698, upon the 16th of Horen’s Calling. The Azogs would be given badges in which he served and were rewarded during and after his service in the Teutonic Order. The orc left behind something for his Clan to be proud of, that made them more than just another mere band of war loving orcs.

Mauricio of Azog would receive more accomplishments too, rather than just being one of the chosen to go to the Nether. Such accomplishments being; first orc OrdenMarshall and Hochmeister of the Teutonic Order, first orc to obtain a land title in Hanseti, led the exodus of Sariants from the rule of Hochmeister Black. Along with to my knowledge being the only, or at least one of the only few Blessed who were a part of the orcish race.

I encourage others to delve deeper into the story of Mauricio of Azog, along with other Blessed and the likes. For these stories are ones which somehow remain shrouded began fog, even when such stories hold great relevance as to why we stand where we are today, and why we stand the way we are standing today.

In the loss of our great apostolic-general, our once great order has not crumbled - but merely fallen to silence in our fight against those who stray from the benevolent arms of God. However, a shining light in the darkness has stood before us - one Holy Sir August. Through his recent letter, he has organised a training and meeting for those ready to rise up.

The Holy Order of Exalted Owyn is an order to be cherished - to bring hope to the citizens of Oren, and all nations who partake in the worship of Cannonism.

Becoming a Holy Knight is not far from your grasp. If you have interest in joining the great order, the time has come. The Holy knights of the church will no longer stand idly by as heathens walk our lands. We will no longer sit in the shadows as the darkness of  despair fall in.

The order will shine bright again.

So, great citizens of GOD, I urge you to stand up in support, and rise your beacons of hope high in the sky

On the 2nd of Horen’s Calling, in the 1842nd Year of Our Lord, did His Reverend Excellency the Apostolic General, Holy Sir Armand-Philippe Talraen de Rennes, leave the mortal coil. Now free of the burdens of his earthly illness, his immortal soul liberated to in the Seven Skies join the holy protectors of his lineage - Saint Edmond, Saint Alexander, and Blessed Aran - the Apostolic General did pass away peacefully in his office, at the age of fifty-eight and after forty-two years of storied service in defense of the faithful flock of the Holy Mother Church.

Survived and mourned by his sister, Lucienne, his spouse, Sigmunda Agnessa, their two children, Tristan Victor and Renna Anastasia, and a multitude of noble cousins in Savoy and Elysium, the final wish of His Reverend Excellency remains that his brothers in arms, Equestors and Armigers of the Supreme Order of Exalted Owyn, lead the procession to escort him to his final resting place in Beauterre; whereas the Knight-Captain, Holy Dame Helena, is entrusted by his last will with the task of entombing his heart within the Talraen Mausoleum, by Touron in Agathor.

Swordsmanship; a very essential thing for those who wish to become the combatants for GOD and to guard those who spread his word. One must become educated on this part of becoming a part of the Order. For the protection of the Canonist flock is the utmost important for the perseverance of our faith.

The important aspects of swordsmanship for a Squire of the Order are;

Your faith,

“Lo and attend, for I am the Lord GOD, and I am in the foremost part of heaven. Though the spring flower withers and the fruit of the tree falls to the ground, My Word lasts into the eve of the world, and the fruit of virtue cannot rot.” - 3. Canticle of Temperance, 1-2

Your perseverance, 

“And I am the Lord GOD without peer, and My trials are the holy trials, and My cure is the virtuous cure, and all the reliefs of the Virtue are open to the righteous forbearer.” - Canticle of Patience 10.

And the will to protect the Canonist people, 

And if need be; take the risk of meeting your demise while doing so.  For one of the most Holy Order must be able to sacrifice his life to save another; even in the most dangerous times. For it is GOD that provides you with the blessing of knowing how to handle a sword to protect others. 

For some, swordsmanship is a GOD-gifted skill. But most do still have to train themselves in order to become the best. As you wield your sword; know that there are important people watching you from the Seven Skies; for they are your motivation to become a swordsman; those people are; The Almighty One GOD, his Angels and those who are with them right now. With GOD on your side and together with your skill as a swordsman; you shall succeed in protecting those who you love; your Canonist Brothers and Sisters and His Holiness, High Pontiff Everard VI.

✠ A Treatise On Loyalty ✠

"My integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for you."

There becomes many a thought when true loyalty is brought into question. Too often superficial acts of comradery, fellowship, and self-serving interactions between peoples is portrayed as true loyalty. However true loyalty comes from self-sacrifice; The willingness to part from one's own self and reach out to another during life's many challenges without the expectation of reward but to glorify GOD.

One who honors GOD and acts to serve him, and accepts the faith of his Regal Supremacy; With the holiest and most absolute trait of humility above all else should, by the will of The Almighty endow the sentiment of loyalty upon themselves. Additionally, as is expected by one of knighthood: To follow their code of honor, and to seek nothing before honor. These many ideals have become apparent to me throughout my journey, and thus such aforementioned sentiments of loyalty I realize upon my own self. By the grace and will of our Lord GOD I shall pursue that which he has placed unto my path.

From the southern reaches comes to our hallowed ground of Beauterre word of rebellion. Witches and apostates consort with the non-human to usurp the God-given throne and mandate of the Sutican monarch. My brothers and sisters, the Deceiver abhors unity among Man; and already in defiance of his unholy creed do the Canonist Princes of the Realm wage war by the righteous side of the Cerulean Watch. 

Brothers and sisters, to give into sloth and inaction is to fall short of His virtue. It is an affront to all that is holy for our blades to linger idle while the wicked defile the lands of Blessed Pius and Aran. No longer shall our Order suffer these miscreants blaspheming the Word and denying the divine right.

By the authority vested in me as Apostle-General and the Custodian of the Faith, I do command that the Beauterre garrison reinforce the Canonist allies of the Sutican monarch at the Rhein at once, and alongside them raise our blades in defense of the faithful flock. All brethren of the Order, be they Holy Knights or Armigers, are hereby temporarily relieved of their quests and duties to aid the Canonist Kingdom of Sutica in the southern struggle.
