History

Never the biggest, brightest, or oldest, the Cloverwood family was born when it’s founder, a man known only as Mr. Cloverwood, was estranged from his family. After this estrangement he found himself quick to marry a Proper Halfling woman who lived on her family’s farm. Ms. Cloverwood was a skilled farmer, harvesting their goods and allowing Mr. Cloverwood to turn it into a variety of drinks, jams, soaps, and so on. They were a formidable pair, and were sickeningly in love. Together they have numerous children. Said children adopted the humble life of their parents and continued to aid them on the family farm.

Unbeknownst to the family, Mr. Cloverwood had a secret. Once a year he travelled into the village to trade the family’s wares. This, however, was a front. When he visited the village, he was secretly meeting with a woman known as “Ms. Tippens”. Their affair was long lasting, and resulted in a son. Ms. Tippens fledged shortly after her son’s birth, leaving him with Mr. Cloverwood.

Mr. Cloverwood claimed the child to be his ‘sister's son’ and was adopted into the family. Life was peaceful for over a decade, before the truth was revealed when Ms. Tippens stood on their doorstep demanding food. Mrs. Cloverwood immediately demanded her husband leave, and began the proceedings of divorce.

Unfortunately, this turned messy. Every day was met with shouting, demanding their children take sides, and items being destroyed or thrown at each other. 

Fed up, the eldest of the bunch, Maple Cloverwood, took their siblings and began to make the move to the village.

Appearance

Cloverwoods tend to have tanned to dark skin, with the exception of those descended from Ms. Tippens who have fair skin. Most of the family have dark reddish-brown eyes and ginger or brownish hair. As a rule, most of the family have the build of farmers and craftsmen. Bulky (for a Halfling, anyway). Heights of the Cloverwoods range between 2’3-3ft, with some going above or beneath depending on the Halfling.

History

Greta Goodbarrel, the first of the Goodbarrels to return to Brandybrook, is descended from two very different but very large and illustrious halfling families: the Goodbarrels and the Greenfoots. 

The Greenfoots trace their lineage over the past century to Greta’s maternal great grandfather, Alberic Greenfoot, who founded the isolated village of Norbury deep within the well guarded lands of the Holy Orenian Empire upon his arrival in Arcas in 1705. Largely isolated from the rest of their kin, the Greenfoots have dwelt almost exclusively in Norbury, with Greta being one of the few of their line to leave that village.

The Goodbarrels are a family much older than the Greenfoots, and though they trace their lineage back to Dunshire in Atlas, it is very likely that there were even older generations of Goodbarrels in Axios. Frequent migrants and travelers, the Goodbarrels were only intermittently present in Brandybrook prior to Greta’s arrival, and have been largely dispersed throughout Arcas. Nevertheless, they have had much more contact with their kin than the Greenfoots have. Caramella, the mother of Thain Micah O’Connell of Brandybrook, was a Goodbarrel.

Culture and Traditions

The Greenfoots, hailing from Norbury, follow a very distinct and unusual variation of halfling traditions. Though the village of Norbury was founded by Alberic Greenfoot with the intention of acting as a safe haven for propers in the face of an increasingly improper halfling society, it soon fell under the sway of its Orenian protectors. The result was a halfling culture that, despite following all the regular halfling traditions such as using shovels and shunning mina, also came to adopt the patriarchal customs and refined speech of humans, interacting with and frequently befriending them while viewing all other bigguns with immense suspicion. Nevertheless, the Greenfoots have proven to be particularly creative thinkers; those who can read have made excellent authors and poets, and even those who cannot read have shown great talent in carving, painting, and music. The Greenfoots are also renowned for their impeccable manners and enchanting charisma.

The Goodbarrels, being well travelled, are far more diverse in their traditions. Though most Goodbarrels adhere to halfling “properness”, a notable improper few have been known to use swords and trade in mina. Goodbarrels often interact with and befriend elves and tend to mistrust humans, but are overall more friendly to bigguns than most halflings are. Though Goodbarrels have had many professions ranging from burglary, to caravanning, to druidism, to scholarship; their most famous talent and tradition is winemaking; at least one Goodbarrel of each generation has had a vineyard at some point in their life. Whether it be from books or in streetsmarts, the Goodbarrels have been noted to be remarkably intelligent, and have also proven to have a natural talent for stealth. Though they tend to be fairly introverted, Goodbarrels are known for their witty humor.

Shared among most Greenfoots is a dislike for dwarves; a people considered by them to be brutish, violent, and greedy. The family also has a great fear and hatred of orcs, whom they consider to be monsters, as well as a dismissive attitude toward beast folk such as Kha and Wonks, whom they view as house pets rather than people.
 

Religion

The Greenfoots, having been so heavily influenced by the Orenians, follow a bizarre faith best described as Knoxo-Canonism, which equivocates Knox with the God of the Canonist faith. They are strict in their adherence to this religion; which resulted in the remarkably Orenian social attitudes that caused Greta to leave Norbury in search of adventure and freedom.

The Goodbarrels, being more well travelled and diverse in their traditions, do not all follow the same religion. Though the vast majority of them worship Knox, many have also followed the Aspects or Arugula.

Appearance

The Greenfoots are of average height for a halfling, ranging between 2’9” and 2’11”. Greenfoots are notable for having curly red hair and round faces and tend to be plump and studier than other halflings. Eye colors range from blue to green to brown and heterochromia is fairly common. The most distinct feature of a Greenfoot is having rosy cheeks; it is said that Greenfoots blush frequently in response to flattery or embarrassment.

The Goodbarrels tend to be taller and more fair-skinned than other halflings, ranging from about 2’10” to 3’3” in height. Though a few have had varying shades of red and blonde hair, most have been brown haired. Goodbarrels also tend to be lighter, quieter, and faster than other halflings. The most distinct feature of a Goodbarrel is having large bright blue eyes.

The Otterbowls are a very new family, coming into existence around the same time as the descendents made it to Almaris. 

- Culture and Tradition -

    The Otterbowls have a great pride in their family and tend to yell “Otterbowl!”, especially if it’s silent. The Otterbowls also tend to wear glasses, even if they don’t need them. When they come across writing, they’re prone to read said writing aloud. The family craft is mail carrying, and they tend to drop stuff off in the mailboxes of other halflings even if they didn’t ask for it. Many Otterbowls also enjoy wood crafting.

    Once an Otterbowl reaches about 33 years old, they are sent off into the ocean at night with a board and a paddle without any clothes on and are to return in the morning.

    The Otterbowls tend to aspire for a position in government and therefore try to be as helpful as possible and will go out of their way to do so. 

- Appearance -

    The Otterbowls tend to have darker shades of hair such as black and brown. Their eyes tend to be brown and green. Due to their mail carrying, they tend to be skinnier than other halflings. Each Otterbowl has a mole under their left foot. As said before, most Otterbowls wear glasses, even if they don’t necessarily need them. The Otterbowls have some of the smallest halflings, the first Otterbowl being around 2 feet and four inches.

The Peregrin Family

    One of the oldest Halfling families, the Peregrins, were founded by Kenwise and Lobelia Peregrin in the realm of Anthos. The two halflings were completely devoted to properness, raising their only child, Andwise Peregrin, up to be religiously devoted to proper ideals.  The family lived together in happiness for some time before tragedy struck; Kenwise and Lobelia went missing as the people of the time raced from the land towards the safety of Athera, where Andwise spent time recovering from his losses. With the help of Fumble Willowbottom, Andwise became one of the land’s finest tinkers, wasting the time away in his laboratory working on all sorts of odds and ins.
    Andwise spent this time in relative peace, keeping to himself while he honed his skills before once again being forced to migrate to the new realm of Vailor, where his life, and the family really began to take off.  There, working with Larry Shortoak, he worked himself up from the position of deputy sheriff, to sheriff, and before long he was elected Thane (also known as simply the mayor during this time).  His reign was hotly contested; some thought his devotion to properness was admirable as he took extreme measures to keep the race in check, while others thought these measures were too much.  Either way, he helped run the community for some time, helping found and run the town of Willow Hollow, where he met a lovely halfling named Berylla Boffins. The two were soon wed, though this did not last long. After about a month into the marriage Berylla gave birth to quadruplets. Her body gave out under the strain and she died in childbirth, leaving Andwise with three newborns as well as one stillborn child.
    Andwise brought the children up to the best of his abilities with the help of Larry Shortoak, the children’s uncle figure. They were raised to be as piously devoted to properness and Knox as Andwise, a trait that still runs in the family to this day.  The family lived in happiness for a while; however, as Andwise lost his position as the Thane of the halflings the family soon began to believe the race was instilling too much trust in the likes of Bigguns.  More and more halflings seemed to disparage the traditions that had held the group together for so long and this frustration came to a climax at the death of their father.  Upon Andwise’s death one of the children Mirabelle split off from the community, running away into the wilds to try to stay loyal to what she deemed as ‘proper.’ Andwise’s only son, Rupert, fell out of the traditions and became increasingly improper after the death of their father much to his sisters’ dismay. The third child, Milly, stayed in hopes of reintegrating these ideals into Halfling culture.  Milly soon became an elder in the town of Reedsborough. She devoted years of her life to managing the upkeep of Reedsborough, including the town’s orphanage. This, too, was not to last and she soon joined her sister’s burrow in the wild, the two cultivating a garden and family largely separate from the rest of the community. 
    Little was known as to what happened to the family during this time period, and still is.  The Peregrines, and a select number of halflings from the local orphanage, all but disappeared from the worlds of both the bigguns and the Halflings’ until centuries and worlds later, when their descendants slowly began to trickle into the halfling settlements once more.

The Peregrins are avid believers in the importance of halfling tradition and proper teachings, being known to sometimes go too far in their pursuit for achieving it.  However, this is driven by love and care for the protection of  Halflings as a race and their belief that they hold a special place in the world. There is very little else they take seriously, unless you consider drinking and tinkering.  Many of the family members fall into what could only be described as chaotic good, being wild little creatures who love to party and make others happy, very rarely missing out on the opportunity to partake in shogging or pumpkin raids. Andwise had been a very gifted shogger himself, bringing many titles home to the Peregrin family. 
Though they are generally a kind family they do harbor a strong distrust of bigguns and outsiders in general. Milly, for example, had been assaulted by a high-elf when she was very young in an act of pure malice, the biggun going so far as to break her arm. This memory of Bigguns has stayed with the family ever since, being passed down as a scary story throughout the generations. However, they are also a very curious family, having a streak of mad scientists who have exploded the family burrow on more than one occasion.  Andwise instilled his love for tinkering in his children and this tradition has been passed down loyally from parent to child ever since.

Peregrins also have raised and used Housemartins as their bird of choice for generations.  The small size of them making them preferable for the small size of the wee-folk.

The Peregrins are also a very pious family, worshipping Knox as the one true god of the Halflings and rebuking anyone who may say otherwise.  They have been devoted to him since his discovery and try to spread his ideals wherever they go.

The Peregrins are small, even for Halfling standards, rarely reaching over 2’10.  The family also has an affinity for green and brown shades, those colors being the most prevalent in Peregrin wardrobes. While tinkering, however, many Peregrins can be found wearing shades of gray or black, as to avoid oil stains on neat white clothing. Many Peregrins can also be found sporting a pair of the patent  Peregrin protective goggles (PPPG) used in their various experiments and inventions. They may also tend to be on the paler side, spending much time inside working on their various creations. This may not stand true for every Peregrin, depending on their tendency to wander the family gardens or partake in outdoor shogging tournaments.

A large number Peregrins sport a head full of curly orange hair, much like Andwise, but some may be born with blonde or light brown locks due to Berylla’s bloodline. Dark hair colors are very uncommon within this family, but are not entirely unheard of, as the family has been known to take in lone halflings. As for eye color, due to being from a long unfettered line of halfling blood, the Peregrins are more prone to heterochromia than most. More often than not,  Peregrin children are born with one eye blue and one eye green.

The Peregrins are very famous for their recipe for a fine lamb dinner that is often adorned with gravy or pineapples, depending on the season.

They are also known for making their famous Peregrin Lemonade which is occasionally spiked with alcohol, but not always.

Finally they are known for baking a rare dish of mashed potatoes that is mixed with a top secret alchemical ingredient and then topped with a thin layer of bacon pieces.

The Mowoods are one of the newest halfling families to begin their journey to become a large dynasty, filled with rich history and bright futures. 

Cultures and traditions

The Mowoods are a blank slate for traditions and cultures. Though they follow most general halfling traditions such as not wearing shoes, they are also eager to have their own. One of which has been brimming is their use of house magery. Something both Theodore and Bassett Mowood have been learning and possibly wish to pass onto their children and all future generations to come.

Another tradition of such is their pure disgust for orcs. This is due to past events which have occurred by the hands of the ruthless green beasts. The two main stories to be told is Theodore's encounter when he envisioned an attack on his life by them which ultimately came true when a group of orcs ravaged him. And the other being that of lies and deceit. When Ul’ga, a person Bassett would call a friend. Made promises she didn’t keep. Lying to him on multiple occasions and then disappearing on him at a time when he felt most separated from everyone. However despite this there is no specific hatred towards Goblins, who some Mowoods find to be quite a refreshing change from the big, dumb, green Ologs and Orcs.

Religion

The Mowoods also have a taste for a religion. Mostly sticking with their avid beliefs in Knox who both Bass and Theo have spoken to on multiple occasions. (OOC: despite him not being the true one). 

To cement their trust in their god. Some Mowoods choose to pray to Knox to aid them in their training in house magery. Sometimes burning small trinkets and others simply praying. 

However as well as their strict religion to Knox, some members of the family also choose to be a loyal servant to the religion of the Aspects. Along with druidism as a whole. Stemming from the very first Mowood druid: Theodore Mowood.

Appearance

Although Bassett and Theodore were unable to conceive a child due to the barrier of gender. There is a running theme in appearance due to one of their children being Bear Mowood, who was niece to Theodore prior to being adopted.

That being brown hair and blue/green eyes. However there is usually a mixture due to all of their adopted children having different eye colours, hair colours and form. 

Heirlooms and recipes

Knoxs’ Lantern - A golden lantern with stained white glass. Inside is a mystic purple flame. It has the ability to sometimes aid the holder with their questions. This specific heirloom was given to Bass & Theo on their wedding day by Knox

Mowood Mushroom Soup - A rare meal which is often made for Sunday lunch. The Mowood mushroom stew is a silky soup with soft cut mushrooms. This is also often given to family members who are sick with a cold.

The Applefoots are one of the newest families of halflings, having been formed by a merger between the Applebrook and Withfoot families when Madeline Applebrook and Harold Withfoot got married (becoming Madeline Applefoot and Harold Applefoot respectively) . The Applefoot family has provided the halflings with great leadership figures from the moment it was created, and it is claimed that the village can never go wrong with an Applefoot in charge, although that claim is still debated. 

~The Applefoot Culture and Tradition~

The Applefoots are a simple folk, following all the cultural traditions of the halflings such as not wearing shoes, not using weapons, and not using minas (Mostly). On top of this, Applefoots usually drink to excess whenever possible, and are not ones to back down from a shogging match.

From the Applebrook side of the family comes a deep love of orcharding, farming, brewing, and cooking, and from the Withfoot side of the family comes a love of chopping trees, smoking, and eating. With all of these tendencies, the Applefoots are both the ultimate producers of farm goods and the ultimate consumers. Due to this, it is rare to see an Applefoot without food in their hands.

~The Look of the Applefoot~

With a smidge of Dwarven genes coming from Harold Withfoot, the Applefoots stand a bit taller than most other halflings. In weight, however, the Applefoots are slightly less than the average, since the Applebrooks were well known for being slim around the waist. Their eyes are usually blue to blueish green, and their hair is either red or reddish brown. This is assuming that they aren’t a Druid like Harold is, and thus do not have a tree as their body.

~Applefoot Religion~

As for Religion, the Applefoots are a varied bunch. Harold Applefoot, the father of the Applefoot family, is a well-known Druid and worshipper of the Aspects, whereas his wife was a devout Knoxist for all her life. Daisy Applefoot worships the Harvest Spirits and Knox, whereas her sisters and brother are all Knoxists as well. There is no one religion of the Applefoots, and it's likely it will remain that way for centuries.

~Family Recipes~

Since all the old Applebrook and Withfoot recipes have been passed down to the Applefoot family, the Applefoots have a wide variety of foods and boozes to choose from. Here are a few

Applebrook Porter: a booze produced with a secret ingredient that only the Applefoots know. It tastes deep and rich, and is very alcoholic.

Withfoot Cider: an all around good cider to drink, produced from only the finest apples and a few other ingredients that are also heavily guarded secrets of the Applefoot family.

The Applefoot Haggis: Produced by Madeline Applefoot, this haggis was a true masterpiece and can only be made by some of the top chefs in the world. While its recipe is not a secret, it is said that only an Applefoot can produce the haggis the way it was meant to be made.

Pipes & Pipeweed: From the Withfoot side of the family came a vast knowledge of pipes and pipeweed. The majority of the halflings' pipeweed comes from the Applefoots, and the Applefoots also make most of the pipes they are smoked in.

Bunny Beer: A lovely beer that combines the taste of carrots and melons with the sweetness and darkness of sugar and hops. Named “Bunny Beer” due to the carrots and the hop content.

~Family Heirlooms~

The Applefoots have few heirlooms to their name, sadly. The few that they do have are shrouded in mystery, dirt, or both. These Heirlooms await the day that they are discovered once more.

Madeline's Cherry-wood Pipe: Said to be the best pipe ever made, this cherry-wood pipe produced the best smoke-rings, smoke-squares, and smoke-ovals ever seen. When Madeline died, her pipe was lost, presumably dropped into somewhere around the village of Dunshire, where it waits to be uncovered to this day.

Rumor has it that Harold Applefoot has recently found the infamous Cherry-wood Pipe, although such rumors are not confirmed

The Arcane Pumpkin: This Pumpkin was plucked straight out of the depths of the darkest, coldest, and perilous place in Axios by the ex-Elder Gerald. When Gerald died, the Pumpkin technically should've passed on to his close friend and associate, Merridolph Applebrook, who technically is a part of the Applefoot family ever since the two were merged. Since Merridolph Applebrook is dead and the Pumpkin was stolen, the Arcane Pumpkin's location is completely unknown. It may never be found again, but if it is, it would change halfling life forever.

The Gardner family are a people who keep to themselves, plain and simple. The Gardner farm sleeps deep in the trees, and they’re content to keep

to themselves, thank you very much. Years ago, Isalie left the farm! Wanting to go on some ‘adventure’ and to ‘find herself’, whatever

that means. Us Gardner’s would rather keep to our fields and never see another soul. Hopefully, no more of us Gardner’s stray like that Isalie!

The Family's Culture and Tradition

Gardner’s are farmers, plain and simple. We till the fields, we trade with travelers (only to get them to leave us alone!).

A very important tradition for us Gardner’s is our name. Whenever a Gardner gets married, their partner must take the Gardner name.

We are also revered bee keepers, cultivating all sorts of delectable honey! It is one of our finer points of trade.

Gardner’s are quite tall, since our great great gram was a dwarf. The tallest stands at 3’4. We have tanned skin, some would argue

from our dwarvish blood, but we also work in the sun on a daily basis. Gardner’s have blue or green eyes, and our 

hair is more often than not a golden color.

The Goldworthy Family

A newer family, the first known Goldworthy was a halfling named Fonzo. Until recently, those of Goldworthy blood were situated scattered around the Arcasian jungle and wildlands. They now reside among fellow weefolk in Brandybrook, and their extended family (the O’Connells). Despite being isolated for quite some time they still uphold halfling tradition.

Name Meaning

Their name ‘Goldworthy’ comes from their hair. ‘Gold’ in reference to the colour and ‘worthy’ meaning valuable. The family hold high value in their curly blonde locks and rarely cut it.

Goldworthy Appearance

Goldworthys have darker skin than most halflings, probably due to far back dwarven lineage. A rather distinctive trait they have is blonde hair of a straw-gold colour. A Goldworthy has brown, hazel or green eyes. Their height ranges between 2’8” and 2’10”, making them a bit shorter than their O’Connell cousins.

H i s t o r y

Unlike most families of the weefolk who are able to trace their lineage back to the first hill-dwellers in the shires of yore, the Ambertoes emerged within the lands of the Halflings as displaced creatures in the year 1503.  

While no doubt similar in appearance to their shirefolk cousins, the lore of the Ambertoe family places their origins outside of the typical Halfling gene pool with regard to purity. The collective offspring of multigenerational marriages between those of Harrentine lineage living with atypical achondroplasia and Halflings, the Ambertoes- with their abnormally short stature (even for Halflings), pointy ears, and lengthy beards- lack much more than just the customs and cultural background of most shirefolk. 

Because of their late arrival to the rolling hills of the shire, family members were left to carve out their own way of life literally and physically. Instead of typical burrows that shire-dwellers had crafted for generations, the Ambertoes, recent emigre from northern human villages, chose to scrap together narrow timber-lacking tunnels instead of the typical burrows.

Their strange lodgings aside,  Ambertoe kinsmen gained much disapproval from their kin due to their indifference to the custom of not wearing shoes. After a series of incidents which landed the Ambertoes in the mercies of the sheriffs of various villages and caused them to be labeled “Improper” on many occasions, heaps of members of the Ambertoe clan (or by this time: ethnic tribe) chose to depart from the shire.

A great exodus between the years 1540 and 1543 landed many Ambertoes within the territories of the now dual monarchies of Haenseti-Ruska. While there, many chose to retreat to the luscious forests surrounding Karlsberg while a known few dwelled within the more developed residential areas of Karlsberg and Carnatia.

Because of their atypical appearance, even to the eyes of the peasant Jorenites, Ambertoes received a number of forms of addresses and characterizations. The name which stuck most to the group and is still echoed by both Ambertoe members and Haense folk till this day is “Haeseni Gnomes.” Because of their short and traumatic run-in with other weefolk in the early half of the sixteenth century, Ambertoe have made it a point to distance themselves from their shire-dwelling kin and now reject the label of Halfling favoring Gnome.

A p p e a r a n c e

Ambertoe members share many common traits making them comically identical to most observers. Physically, Ambertoes often have unkempt brown hair and beards, light eyes, and thick pointy ears.

Along with their physical bodily appearance, an Ambertoe would never be caught living or dead without a pointed or floppy hat. Such hats are often employed to cover their oddly shaped ears from onlookers, some going so far as to pull their hats just below their eyebrows. Common colors include red, green, and lavender.

T r a i t s

Often characterized as dim-witted or foolish, the Haeseni Gnomes are a cheerful bunch for the most part always looking to brighten the spirits of those they meet. Moody folk, it is not uncommon for an Ambertoe to undergo fits of laughter and tearful sorrow in short patches of time due to environmental factors.

The Ambertoe accent is much akin to that of a Halfling combined with a deep Northerner tongue. It is not unheard of for an Ambertoe to have to repeat themselves to an outsider several times while attempting to get their point across, sometimes this becomes challenging as they have a proclivity for the creation of new expressions.

R e l i g i o n

Ambertoes are united in their belief in a singular Creator. Unlike most Halflings who incorporated Knoxism and Billy Bob worship into their daily routines, Ambertoes were never too keen on these practices for the most part. Many Haense emigre Ambertoes came to adopt Ruskan Rite Canonism after being proselytized by the wayward Elder Vladimir. Till this day, most Gnomes continue to hold to these tenants without being overly zealous.

The Pebblejaw Family

Origins

Established in 1698 by Edward Pebblejaw and Mary Smallfoot, Edward claimed to be a descendant of a prominent Halfling woman at the time. He and his wife, Mary, would soon hop around from village to village, making a ruckus and getting drunk. Soon, Edward and Mary would lose all their funds, finally deciding to settle down in a village called Wheatville, a small Halfling village away from the main road of Atlas. Soon, the halfling couple would have three kids. Matthew Pebblejaw, born in 1711, Andre Pebblejaw, born in 1713, and Anna Pebblejaw-Underbrow, born in 1715. Anna and Matthew bearing their own kids.

Physical Appearance

Most Pebblejaws have tanned skin with dark brown hair, often with an odd colour of yellow or orange eyes, some even having both! They are no taller than 2’9”. They often wear farmers clothes, patches and stitches all through-out.

Morals

Every young babe gets a stern teaching of Brandybrook laws and that of the Pebblejaw’s own moral code. This has some very normal codes, like don’t steal and don’t attack another, with some very off the wall teachings too, such as forbidding learning Druid Magic and Golemancy without proper approval from the current most oldest person in the family. They are as follows.

1. Respect everyone.
2. Treat those the way you want to be treated.
3. Do not learn Druid Magic or Golemancy without proper approval.
4. Do not wear shoes.
5. Do not lock doors.
6. Share food.
7. Drink with your family.
8. Treat the sick.
9. Help the old.
10. Don’t talk to banished halflings.

Religion

Much like most halflings, the Pebblejaw family believes in that of Knox, the Pumpkin lord, although they worship things such as family and honesty more.

The O’Connell Family

The O’Connell bloodline can be furthest traced back to Pedderee O’Connell, a half-human half-halfling who married Rufus Rorimac Strongfoot. Together they ran a small, remote tavern and started their own family. They have blood relations to other halfling families, the Goldworthys and Goodbarrels.

O’Connell Appearance

Most of O’Connell blood are of taller stature. They have curly hair that ranges anywhere from blonde to auburn to brown. They a generally pale, though a certain branch of the family has brown skin. Heterochromia is a common trait.

Religion

O’Connell’s are devout Knoxists, following the prophet ‘Lord Knox’. There have been instances of Arugula worship, however most are infact fearful of the Squidlord- even believing it to be evil.

-Origin-

The sackville family originated when Sean Sackville, a previous nameless halfling was banished from Brandybrook for acting improper. Accused of the crime of wearing shoes and locking doors.

He moved to Sutica thereafter where he married an Elizabeth Fooltoe, another halfling banished for the same reasons as Sean. they got a son, Elijah Sackville. 

Elijah was annoyed at his parents for having what he deemed as ruining his life. he decided to rebel against his parentage and lived to become as proper as he could. He would eventually father three children. Miles, Camilia og Esmerelda.

-Physical Appearance-

The Sackvilles are quite small, Seldom reaching taller than 3 ft. tall. They are often seen with curly red or golden-blonde hair and are quite famed for their lush foot hair. Blue eyes are a common trait amongst this family of wee-folk. 

On-top of all this they also care to look presentable, making sure their clothing is looking proper.

For some unknown reason the Sackvilles are unable to grow any facial hair aside from sideburns. 
 

-Combat Stye-

As good proper halflings the Sackvilles aren’t fond of violence, and will try to avoid combat if possible. Though in case the need arises for combat a sackville is usually carrying around a tool which can be used, like a pan, shovel, or hammer. 

-Attitude-

The Sackvilles relish in the joy of living, never taking anything too badly. They’re always up for a good chat and generally a joy to be around. They love to take part in social gatherings like a drinking party, a fishing turney or a good game of shogging.

As their symbol the Sackvilles have a stylized copper colored dandelion with 4 leaves sprouting out from its base. Contained inside a white rhombe with a black outline.

~The Driftwood Family!~

The Driftwood family is a newer family within Brandybrook, for it initially consisted of none but Deek Driftwood, and expanded from there with his recent marriage to Pervinca. The Driftwoods are a family of fisher halflings who supply Brandybrook with a never ending supply of fresh fish, ensuring that the halflings never run low on meat! On top of their frequent fishing, the Driftwoods are known for their skill in sailing, for they manage the Spicy Shrimp ship and thus the entire navy of Brandybrook!

~Driftwood Culture & Traditions~

In order to be considered a full adult within the Driftwood family, a lil’un must catch a fish larger than they are without help from others. This is not too much of any issue for most Driftwoods, for fish around Brandybrook that are larger than the average halfling are quite common.  Another important tradition for the Driftwood family is marriage. Driftwood children are expected to get married soon after becoming an adult, with pre-marital relations discouraged. This is in stark contrast with the rest of the halflings, who have grown more loose on marriage in recent times.

Finally, a good Driftwood must never chop down a tree. That task is to be done by other halflings, for the Driftwoods are halflings of the sea, not of the forest.

~Driftwood Appearance~

Driftwoods are usually on the shorter end of the halfling race, rarely taller than 2’10’’. Their hair ranges from blonde to black, and their eyes are usually some shade of blue. Their feet are much hairier than other halflings, often times covered in as much hair as their heads!

~Driftwood Religion~

The Driftwoods are devout followers of Arugula, the Squid Lord. They believe that the worship of Arugula will grant them a larger catch and safety from the dangers of the sea, and thus they are known to build shrines in Arugula’s honor. While Knoxism, aspectism, and other religions do exist within the Driftwood family, they are less common than usual.

~Family Recipes~

Driftwood Salmon is a dish that cannot be beat! The recipe is a closely guarded secret by the Driftwood family, but it’s speculated that it involves some amount of foreign lemons and (obviously) salmon

On top of this, the Driftwoods acquired the recipe for Swammie Booze from Rollo Applefoot (probably by stealing it). While the booze is funky and bizarre, the Driftwoods seem to like it for some reason.

The Pennywhistle Branch of the Puddlefoot Family

The Puddlefoot family is a family of halflings that has lived quietly and unnoticed for centuries amongst the other Descendants. The family got its name in 1243 on Aegis based on a nickname given to Bungo, son of Pipper, a halfling who built his burrow too close to a lake and had frequent floods in his foyer. Fredegar Puddlefoot, Bungo’s son, was the first of his family to bear the name Puddlefoot, the first of his family to bear the name Fredegar (which became a popular name in the family), and the only of his family to make the trip from Aegis to Asulon.

In Anthos, Fredegar Puddlefoot, the third of his name in four generations and great grandson of the original Fredegar, settled his family by a pond that they named Pennywhistle Pond after getting into an argument with the other halflings. From this point on, the family line splits and the descendants of those who settled with Fredegar became known as the Pennywhistle Puddlefoots.

Culture & Traditions

The Pennywhistle Puddlefoots have been mostly farmers, living a simple life away from the hustle and bustle of halfling town life. They take great care of the fields and animals under their care. As many of them never leave home and travel, they tend to be simpler when naming local landmarks close to them, as there is little need to differentiate between The Wood and other woods when you only know the one. Therefore, many directions given by a Pennywhistle Puddlefoot can be rather nonsensical to someone not of their family line. “See, ma Da was Tolman Puddlefoot and he lived over the Long Hill under the Trellised Pines and beyond the Bird Bog…”

Family history is exceptionally important to a Pennywhistle Puddlefoot, and items passed down by elder relations hold almost a sacred place in their households. Given the time, a Pennywhistle Puddlefoot is likely to tell you everything about their family back their full (currently) nine generations. “Why, this booster seat tha’ ‘elps me set in them biggun chairs was given ta me by Hoskin Bracegirdle. ‘E was my grandmother’s uncle, on my father’s side. Now Uncle Hoskin could put back an entire ‘og in one settin’, they say, and…”

Typical Appearance

Sandy, ginger, and blond hair is the most common amongst the Pennywhistle Puddlefoots. They tend to be around average height and have a higher rate of heterochromia than other halflings. Pennywhistle Puddlefoots often have larger hands than other halflings and its rumored that they may have had vestigial webbing between their hands in earlier generations due to their tendency to live near water. Such a thing hasn’t been seen in recent memory and it has passed into legend and fireside tall tales.

Religious Beliefs

Most members of the family do not devote any time to worshipping the traditional halfling deities or the deities of other races. While they acknowledge their existence, family history, traditions, simple living, and hospitality take on the importance of religion in their lives. It is not unusual for a Pennywhistle Puddlefoot, upon a stranger knocking on their door, to invite them inside and be three cups of tea into their conversation before finding out their name, and well into dinner by the time they get around to asking why the stranger had stopped by.

Pennywhistle Pumpkin Pie, lovingly made with the finest nutmeg and cloves and the freshest pumpkins, has been an important recipe for the Puddlefoot family for the last four generations.

The Cottonhill Family

The Cottonhill's family lineage spans back well before the charter journey from Axios; however, the Cottonhills have always been terrible record keepers--preferring rather to live in the present. Therefore, precise records of their origins are impossible. Fortunately, Mirabell Cottonhill (formerly of the Barleyoats before marriage) began keeping records in her recipe books once they settled in Atlas.  Mirabell married Aldagrim Cottonhill upon settling in Fernswood. After the loss ot two children during childbirth--while living in Fernswood--Mirabell and Aldagrim relocated (along with the other Halflings) to Dunshire, where the Cottonhills have remained ever since.

The Family's Culture and Tradition

The Cottonhills have always been a bumbly bunch. Goofy at heart, all of the Cottonhills have valued joy, generosity, and kindness above all. If there is time for a laugh, time for a good chuckle, or time to pause and enjoy the moment, the Cottonhills have relished it. Expert singers and master drinkers, the Cottonhills have always prided their ability to drink Bigguns' under the table, as well as their ability to write lines of verse. Both Darcy Cottonhill and his father, Andywise Cottonhill were poets (as well as fishermen--the tradition of Cottonhill men). Like most Halflings, the Cottonhills are by no means fighters. They're a peaceful bunch. Though, like raccoons, they've been known to get rather defensive when cornered. And don't let their family's short, plump statures fool you! They're quick on their bare feet and nimble as foxes.

Cottonhill Family Appearance

All of the Cottonhills never pass up a meal. Breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, lunch, anytime worth eating is a time you'll find good company among the Cottonhills. For this reason, many of the Cottonhills are rather chubby. Though it has long been a matter of fact among Halflings that Mirabell Cottonhill was one of the most beautiful Halflings in Dunshire (arguably, of course!). Most all of the Cottonhills are redheaded, an uncommon characteristic that could hint to Dwarven genes in their ancestry. Though (again, due to terrible record keeping) it's impossible to know for certain. One thing is sure: all of the Cottonhills are short. And by-in-large, their eyes are hazel, though some exceptions have been noted, for example, Darcy.

Religion

Due to their history as fishermen, the Cottonhills have chosen (most often) to worship Squidlord Arugula. However, Darcy Cottonhill, in defiance of his father, chooses to worship Knox & Squidlord Arugula. The price, of course, being that he is often cursed with catching shoes and sticks--more often that catfish and lakefish. Though Darcy has yet to take note of the correlation between his lack of devotion to Squidlord Arugula and his fishing success (or lack thereof).

Mirabell "Gran" Cottonhill's Biscuits n' Jam recipe:

Perhaps one of the most notable biscuits and jam recipes in Dunshire, this recipe dates by generations. Notable for their flakiness and moist suppleness, "Gran's" biscuits are something of a delicacy among the Cottonhills and among Dunshire.

Aldagrim Cottonhill's blessed fishing rod: 

As legend has it, Aldagrim met Squidlord Arugula who blessed his rod with the gift of luck. Consequently, Aldagrim is one of only a few residents of Dunshire to have been know to catch (and subsequently release) the Great White Squid from Dunshire lake. Aldagrim passed down his lucky rod to Andywise, who subsequently passed the rod down to Darcy--who now (due to his half-invested faith) only benefits from half the rod's luck.

Mirabell "Gran" Cottonhill's lucky ring:

Given to her by Aldagrim upon their relocation to Dunshire, "Gran's" ring was caught by Aldagrim from the depths of Dunshire lake. It's unknown exactly where the ring came from, or who the previous owner was; however, it has proven quite lucky. Darcy has won many a shogging match from wearing "Gran's" fortunate ring.

The Shortoak Family had a rather odd beginning. One quite fit for the life of a Halfling as it involves a bet between two very cheeky friends. Larry and Andwise were best of friends even from their first meeting back in the village of Goodborough, luckily for the pair they both knew how to rustle each other’s jimmy’s and knew when each could be beaten, especially when they put wagers on the line.

As we go back to the story of the Shortoak beginnings, one must first know the initial bet and what was at stake. Andwise bet his most famous trusty shogging shovel that was cared for and had a magical ability to be quicker than any other, or so they said. And Larry had nothing of importance, not at the time anyway but he liked to gamble so he put a wager of betting his last name to something Andwise found amusing at the time, shortoak.

Obviously, the pair needed a competition, something where a winner would clearly be decided, so they opted to drink until one fell off their chair onto the floor. It started off with human ale, then to vodka, then to Larry’s famous Shortoak stout only to be followed with both hobbits falling to the floor at the same time, Larry making contact first. Thus, Larry and his family became the Shortoak’s.

They tend to abide by three simple to follow rules:

1 - Listen to your Elders, they make the rules for a reason.

2 - Never steal from another Halfling, there is a storage burrow for a reason.

3 - If you take from another Halfling, leave something in return.

:: Culture and Tradition ::

Shortoak’s tend to have a large appetite, often eating multiple meals throughout the day. Larry believes that if more bigguns valued food and song above power and gold, it would be a merrier and peaceful realm.

Another culture trait they have, not unique to the Shortoak’s is their ability to talk their way out of many situations, due to their often mischievous actions. However, often this is used due to getting themselves out of situations they had previously caused issues starting.

Though their traditions stick similar to their fellow neighbours some of the Shortoak family enjoy artistic ways of life such as poetry, songs and drawings.

:: Appearance ::

The Shortoak’s often have the same colour eyes, yet it is still not uncommon to find one with different colours due to it being common for other halflings. Their complexion is often one of a light tan due to their time spent in the sun. Their hair colour can vary from a bright red to a dark brown with it being rare to see a ginger colour. The Shortoak’s are some of the shorter of their kin. Apart from their short visage, the family hold no real unique appearance.

The Shortoak’s way of life do not hold any sort of religion in high regards other than some following Druidism and/or the old Harvest gods during the harvest months, though it is noted that the family are fully aware of the existence of Aenguls and Daemons in the realm, even appreciating the efforts done by some to their kin.

:: Notable Family Recipe ::

The most notable recipe from the Shortoak’s is a Mutton Mince Pie.

To make this meal, first one needs to gather the ingredients prior to cooking, never bought, but farmed by the cook and prepared shortly after collecting. A hint of nutmeg and salt adds to the taste, creating their unique take on the pie.

They also have a brew known as Shortoak stout first created by Larry, no one knows the exact ingredients other than him but he has let slip it is made with the same main products as all other stouts.

A Brief History

Featherfoot Halflings were first recorded as living among the earliest communities of single-burrow hills. As early Halfling communities grew during the 8th century, surnames were required to identify with - where previously only forenames were used. A Halfling by the name of Floryn founded the house of Featherfoot and all his descendants followed with that surname. In modern history, Faldo Featherfoot rose to prominence in the latter days of Aegis, and went on to be an influential figure in Halfling traditions and folklore.

Faldo (/fol-do/) Featherfoot (1269 - Present day)

Grandson of Fyllyp Featherfoot and son of Fredegar of Dunwood. Faldo fled Dunwood with his childhood friend and travelling companion, Tibb Fairfield, as the Undead invasion fought victory after victory throughout Aegis. In his travels Faldo met with many powerful people, such as King Syrio of Alras, King Algrim of Kal’Urguan, as well as several Elven princes on whose boat he and Tibb stowed away on for the journey to Asulon.

There, he was invited by Petyr Brandybuck to settle in his new village called Branborough in The Vale. As Petyr grew too frail to manage the village, Faldo and Tibb became Village Elders and brought prosperity to The Vale - their festivals becoming the stuff of legend throughout Asulon. Faldo then went on to construct the village of Lenfarthing in Anthos, and was a Village Elder there until his disappearance. Faldo returns to Halfling villages momentarily and then disappears just as quickly - the purpose of these disappearances is not commonly known. During this time, Faldo was the author of the second volume of A History of Halflings, continuing the legacy set by Petyr. Among the Halfling community Faldo is renowned for his exceptional old age and longevity, a characteristic he puts down to drinking Petyr’s Branborough Buzz brew alongside ten square meals a day.

Fyllyp (/fɪlɪp/) Featherfoot (1014 - 1172)

Son of Fytzroy Featherfoot and Belladonna Sandydowns, Fyllyp was the first Halfling to be in possession of the now-legendary Halfling relic of Halfbite - a magical shortbow. Population pressures drove the Featherfoot family away from the early communities of Halflings with the Sandydowns and Fairfield families. Fyllyp was the village Bounder, and came upon the bow in protecting the boundaries of the village from mysterious shadowed creatures - a terrifying omen as Aegis was invaded by these Undead creatures just decades later.

Floryn (/flɒr-rɪn/) Featherfoot (652 - 748)

The founding male of the Featherfoot family, Floryn was a tankard-maker of high renown. It is through his craft that it is believed Floryn played a crucial role in the development of the famous tavern culture of the Halflings. In ancient Halfling folklore, Floryn is said to have been visited by The Wandering Wizard who, impressed by the crafting traditions and peaceful ways of the small folk, blessed a tankard with magical properties - a tankard which never ran out. Floryn died mysteriously in the year 748.

A typical Featherfoot

Featherfoots were so called, in the days of Floryn, for being light on their feet and due to the goose feather commonly worn behind the ear - which distinguishes one as a Featherfoot. Featherfoots are affected with heterochromia - one green eye and one blue. They have dark hair and tanned skin, being of average height and build. Featherfoots share a sense of adventure with the Brandybucks, as well as a fierce attitude towards upholding the culture and traditions of old. Featherfoots are capable farmers and expert burrowers, but as a result of their family prominence they are often looked to in providing leadership roles in the villages of their birth.

Religion

During the age of Asulon, Faldo was responsible for the creation of a new worship among Halflings dedicated to ‘The Pumpkin Lord’. This was always approached with some scepticism, though often proved useful to scare bigguns. Faldo also claimed to have personally known Squidlord Arugula, who some Halflings choose to worship. The Featherfoots, like most Halflings, forgot or disbelieved in the creation stories and Aenguls and Daemons of old. Instead they adopted the quasi-religious outlook on life shared by Halflings that revolved around the things they held dear; harvest and food, companionship, nature, and peace. They share a common belief that, if a halfling betrayed his tight-knit community, that the harvest and the tranquillity of life would be lost.

A magical shortbow famous among early Halfling communities for slaying Undead invaders. Wielded by Fyllyp Featherfoot. Last seen on display in the Drunken Sheep Inn in Branborough.

The Tankard of Terror ~

A cursed, magical tankard responsible for the deaths of several Halflings. Those who survived it would turn mad. Cast into the Atlas Volcanoes by Hobbs Burrows, Faldo’s adopted son, who died with it.

The Len Stone ~

A commemorative stone recovered from the ruins of Lenfarthing. Displayed in every subsequent Halfling village to remember those lost in the massacre.

Early history

The Shortstraws started off as a family with an identity crisis. Their founder, Gary Shortstraw lived in the vale in a time where the small population had to work together to do everything, Gary farmed, was the town drunk, and helped out one of the Elders' sons when he decided he wanted to dress like a rabbit. Gary found himself a "Goo' enough 'obbit ladeh" to have some children with, her name was Daisy Shortstraw and she died after the birth of Gary's third son, Toto Shortstraw.

Magic

Gary got the news one day of a spooky scary abandoned hobbit hole at the top of the mountain protecting the vale in Anthos the day he was given a job as deputy of the vale. After he took some time to celebrate with some ale Gary traveled to the top of the mountain to go into the hole. When he got in there he found some books on the art of  Earth magic left behind by a great wizard and a member of the Yir'sari. Gary began to read these books in this spooky hobbit hole, he closed the hole off to the public and spent many years reading while patrolling the village, and drinking with his good friend, and most famous local drunk Posco. After a night of drinking, Gary went back to the abandoned hobbit hole and stumbled into one of the bookshelves and a door opened which lead to a large tower where the great wizard once lived. The books he found allowed him to study more on the history of earth magic and grow his power even more. 

Legacy of law

th' pancakes law" A law which prohibited halflings from wasting all of the wheat on making too many pancakes so they could be better cooks, an achievement Shortstraws still talk about to this day.

The Applebrook Family

The Applebrooks are a peculiar family. The features these redheaded fishermen, writers, musicians, farmers, and brewers bear are rare in Halfling culture. Few may ever see a redheaded Halfling, but if they do, it’s an Applebrook. This Family takes pride in its music, its specialized brews, and their knowledge.

Traditions

Although generally a carefree family when it comes to the careers of their children, Applebrooks often will push their children in certain directions. For one, they hope that their children will become fishermen, writers, musicians, farmers, or brewers in the future, depending on the Halfling. Applebrook clothing is typically green, and consists of vests and trousers for the males and simple laced dresses for the females. Applebrooks are also known to wear hats, a favorite among them the Paddy Cap! Applebrooks are also trained to shog from a young age, and play these 3 (or more) instruments: The Flute, The Mandolin, and the Fiddle. Some Applebrooks branch out to other instruments, and they have their very own style of Halfling music.

Applebrook Porter

The Applebrook Family has a secret recipe for Porter. For the most part it is standard Porter, essentially darker beer with more malt. However, they have a secret ingredient that gives it a better taste and a stronger kick. Only Applebrook brewers are aware of this ingredient, and will not share it with anyone- not even other Applebrooks if they aren’t brewers.

Appearance

Applebrook Halflings have a rare trait, uncommon in many other Halflings: Red hair. Although most of the time it is copper or rust colored, it is rare to see a brunette Applebrook (although they do exist). Some theorize that this is where the name comes from, due to their hair being the color of red delicious apples! Applebrooks are thinner than many Halflings, although still have very pudgy faces and sometimes are a little soft around the belly. Their hair is curly, oftentimes quite unkempt and messy! Their skin is pale, sometimes bearing freckles. Applebrooks are typically shorter than other Halflings, but not incredibly short. They usually range from about 2’8 to the standard 3 feet.

The beginnings of the Tucketbrook family are rather peculiar, as most things concerning these small-folk tend to be. The family began with the arrival of a round, pudgy fellow by the name of Lobo. There was nothing particularly exemplary about this halfling, except for perhaps his ability to detect the scent of a cake from several miles away. Or so he said, though judging by his size, most often assumed it to be true. Indeed, the only other thing this small man was known for was his many fears. It was perhaps most unusual, then, that Lobo would be remembered most of all for his position as the first Sheriff of Lenfarthing. Whether or not he actually did anything as a Sheriff is a question I leave to the historians. (Note. He did nothing.)

Anyway - I digress. Lobo, having travelleled from Branborough in lands long lost, began to make a name for himself in the new community of smallfolk, among the gentle hills and golden wheats of Lenfarthing. Forming a friendship with the leader of Lenfarthing, Faldo the LenMaster, Lobo took up residence in a burrow of great splendor named 'The Tucketbrook' of Tucketbrook Lane. Many a green eye turned to Lobo, for The Tucketbrook was home to the grandest, largest hot-tub in all of Lenfarthing. It was said Lobo would spend an entire days kipping in the tub at a time. Perhaps these tales are false, but if I know my father, I expect they are true. Lobo came to love the lazy days spent in the Tucketbrook so much, that it was said he even adopted the name! Or - maybe the Tucketbrook was named after him. Another question for the historians! The Tucketbrook was rivaled only by the burrows of Faldo Featherfoot and Tibb Fairfield. Together, these three halflings would guide Lenfarthing to a place of fond memory for many smallfolk such as myself. From the festivals of Lenfest, to the frequent games of Shogging, many a fun time was had. I should note - Faldo was rumoured to have performed the greatest Herbwallop Hop ever witnessed by halflings! Sidenote: A Herbwallop Hop is the act of jumping from your log, to your opponents, for any untrained players of this game!

Now, before I lose myself in the many stories of Shogging, I ought to explain how I came to be! While Lenfarthing was, for the most part, a calm place because of the ever watchful eye of Sheriff Lobo  by nature, there was an event that brought chaos to the peaceful folk there. The arrival of a halfling woman. Her beauty was legend, and many compared her beauty to the sight of a golden pint of ale. No small claim, I assure you. Faldo, Tibb and Lobo all fought for her attention. Many shovels were broken in fights to prove themselves, many trees felled to make the logs for more competitive games of shogging, and many a bump and bruise gained by the three halflings throughout the process. All three scrambled to find the greatest gift, the most valuable offering to her, to surely win her heart! Lobo - the chubby, lazy halfling least expected to win her heart, pulled a stunner. He produced a shovel as gold as the wheat surrounding my burrow - a shovel as gold as the morning sun! Knocking on the door to her burrow, Lobo triumphantly presented what could undoubtedly be the greatest gift a halfling could produce. Faldo and Tibb could only watch in despair as Lobo, having been hiding the shovel behind his back, revealed his gift for the lady. As she took the shovel with glee, Lobo was confident he had proven triumphant, and the battle to go down in the folklore of all halflings for years to come was won!

As it turned out, she was a greedy bugger. Snatching the shovel and slamming the door, the three halflings found all of their advances rejected. Reconciling, the three halflings made a solemn vow never to compare the beauty of a lady to that of a fresh ale. Despite the heartbreak felt by all three, life continued on, and peace returned to Lenfarthing. Then Lobo met my mother, some time later!

The Tucketbrook family has a history of being involved as Sheriffs or Deputies within the halfling communities. It is a shame then, that more often than not every member of the Tucketbrook family can be scared silly at the slightest of things. Perhaps it is this paranoia that drives them to be involved the 'solving' of mysteries plaguing the lives of halflings (e.g: Why is there one less cake? Well - it must be a hilltroll burrowed underneath the ground that comes up at night to steal the cakes!) 

The Tucketbrooks are relatively independent fellows and have a great dislike for being told what to do. This, in turn, lends itself to the exceptionally stubborn attitude of any Tucketbrook. If they are right - they are right. Or at least, that is what they would have those around them believe.

The Tucketbrook family is, perhaps oddly having been involved in the creation of the legend known as 'Lord Knox', less religious than many other halfling families. The Tucketbrooks will never miss an opportunity, however, to recount the tale of the Pumpkin Lord making his first appearance to Lobo, Faldo and Tibb in Lenfarthing. It is likely they are simply too lazy, or too forgetful, to commit to regular worship.

Yet despite their propensity to be forgetful, stubborn, scared and proud fellows, the Tucketbrooks have a great warmth surrounding them. Their sense of humour and willingness to get involved in a joke ensures there is never a dull moment around a Tucketbrook, be it for the better or worse.

It cannot be said that the Tucketbrooks have a defining trait of appearance beyond their dark hair. A relatively new family in the grand scheme of things, any such traits have simply not yet had the time to develop. Some may be fat - others slimmer, as is the case with Lobo and Fosco respectively.

The Proudfoot Family

The origins of the Proudfoot are a bit blurry since the Fringe. All it is known from them tracks as far back as Bongo the II, the eldest member, can recall. The father of Bongo the II, Bongo the I, had two children with another Halfling and one with a human, Maria Ascuasciati. Later on, Maria abandoned Bongo and took their half human son with her spliting the family apart. However, the family reunited when Mungo, motherless and abandoned by father, decided to leave Gimblewood and seek for adventures.

These adventure brought Mungo to unite with the lost Human half of his family and settleing in several locations like the western coast of Athera, a castle next to Orc lands, a house in the Caliphate and have owned several farms in WoodElven lands, the Caliphate, the northern mesa of Athera and the Valkyrian farms.

But now the family has split apart once again and the only one known to be still alive is Mungo, who has decided to return to the Halfling village.

The Applebrook family originated long ago in a far away village that is now a ghost-town. The original members were Meril and Bando Applebrook, a couple who's family worked as farmers and writers. After 2 or 3 generations, the village was abandoned due to an orc attack. 4 Applebrooks prevailed, Teyala, Rango, Donga, and Polwise. The family was forced to migrate to a small village in the north, who's population were all fishers due to the nearby river. Due to this, there was no opportunity for the family of farmers, and the family were forced to adapt. After Teyala, Rango, Donga, and Polwise all found families, everyone's families began to find their own occupations. Teyala, who's children took her name, became a writer as well as a farmer. Rango became a fisherman, and his family were taught to be skilled fishermen. Donga did the same thing as Teyala, but her family were more orientated toward farming than writing. Polwise died of the Plague. Those 3 branches of the family, after a few generations, became the Applebrooks you know today!

The Applebrooks are always happy and helpful, and tend to dress to impress! The family pride themselves on being good farmers and fishers, in addition to being well educated and creative. It is common for Applebrooks to partake in strange sports and methods of entertainment including juggling geese, shogging, and playing obscure card games. Applebrooks, unlike a lot of halflings, will partake in travel and adventures just for the thrill. Applebrooks are always raised to help out everyone. This family has been known to write stories and songs, and throw delightful parties!

Appearance

The Applebrook family have varying appearance, however it is incredibly common to have mismatched eyes. The most common eye colors are hazel and sky blue. The Applebrook family tend not to allow very much facial hair, save for glorious sideburns that are incredibly common. They have many different hair colors, though typically they either have black, dark brown, or auburn hair. They are usually shortish for halflings, never exceeding the 3 ft average but also never being under 2'8. Their skin is typically pale, as they tend to wear more covering clothes and spend time indoors writing and reading. They are typically slim for halflings, but not muscular. Their hair is typically curly or wavy, always being unkempt and messy.

The Bundle Family

A Family descended from father Dodo Bundle and mother Dora Goldilocks. The family has been fading away ever since the separation of Dodo and Goldilocks back in the isles of Vailor. The family insists in helping the community and staying close, thats why they are mostly not married. The Bundle's are Happy folks looking always for challenges and always look forward for meeting new people, They also are fair merchants trading with many other halfling and sometimes Bigguns, they are merely tall for Halflings , and most of them would have a big mustache, their hair color is somewhat brownish or blond, they are Around 2'8 , but can grow bigger.

Beware Bigguns They are Masters of the shovel

The first known Peregrins were Kenwise and Lobelia Peregrin, who lived in the the time of Thales. Then, on a rainy day, Lobelia gave birth to the couple’s first child, Andwise Peregrin. Kenwise, Andwise’s father, was very paranoid that the village was losing its sense of being ‘Proper,’ so he stole Andwise away to the woods and raised him to be as proper as he could imagine, that is, until Kenwise lost his ways and was asking Andwise to do all needed tasks that were important for the two’s survival. Andwise eventually ran from his father and stumbled into the city of Tuv Aviv as The Descendants were boarding their great ships to make their way to the realm of Athera, where Andwise met and was further raised by Fumble Willowbottom in the halfling village of Gimblewood. Andwise learned to be a great thinker, in his youth, and had a childish crush on a girl named Mirabelle, the honey druid. Andwise lived throughout the times of Athera and learned basic manners and how to farm, until The Descendants moved to Vailor. In Vailor, Andwise turned 33, the age of maturity, and was given the job of Jr. Deputy by Sheriff Richard {insert name,} where Andwise carried out many public spankings and busted many people for having locked chests. At some point, Andwise met an odd halfling named Bobo, who looked almost exactly like him, except he has odd facial hair. It was deduced that Andwise was not the only child of Lobelia and Kenwise. Quickly after Andwise and Bobo met, Fumble announced there would be an election for the next mayor of the village of Goodborough. Andwise was ecstatic and was ready to run, for he had great enthusiasm. Although, when Bobo tried to cheat the system in favor of Andwise, the vote was declared null and Bobo quickly hanged himself in shame. It was not until the oppressive skygods waged war on the village of Goodborough was Andwise made Thane (also known as mayor) of the halflings. Andwise began doing his duties to the best of his abilities and was eventually promoted to Deputy so that he could act out the law without needing to ask the Sheriff, the position was eventually taken over by Larry Neyas and the two quickly became best friends. Andwise had moved the halflings to live near the Wood Elf nation of Laurehlin where he led the construction of the village of Willow Hollow. A decade or so passed and Andwise met a ravishing halfling lady, named Berylla Boffins, and they quickly fell in love. The two were suddenly surprised at the discovery of Berylla’s pregnancy and were quick to become engaged, soon to be happily wedded at the Cloud Temple. A month or so into their beatific marriage, Berylla went into labor, soon giving birth to Mirabelle Peregrin, Rupert Peregrin, Milly Peregrin and a stillborn child. Berylla died in the process of childbirth, never to return home to her family. Today, the Peregrin family lives happily in the village of Willow Hollow.

The Peregrins are very famous for their recipe for a fine lamb dinner that is often adorned with gravy or pineapples, depending on the season.

They are also known for making their famous Peregrin Lemonade which is occasionally spiked with alcohol, but not always.

Finally they are known for baking a rare dish of mashed potatoes that is mixed with a top secret alchemical ingredient and then topped with a thin layer of bacon pieces.
