With the halls of Nicolosi complete and the household ready to host the ton of Alba, we’d like to continue our festivities within Villa Nicolosi by celebrating the eighteenth nameday of Lady Federica di Rosavena and Master Angelo di Spinasacra, two strong, well-educated members of the Rosaveni who shall continue on this journey of life as adults henceforth.

The Diciottesimo is the Illatian term we use for the eighteenth birthday, marking the passage into adulthood. For generations, this traditional celebration has been observed as a joyous occasion, honoring those raised in the virtues of family and faith, those who grow like the blooming roses of the spring.

We invite you all to join us at Villa Nicolosi to honor these two young, esteemed members of society, holding them in your prayers as they walk this next part of their lives.

Opening Recital

After the arrival and greeting of those guests who have chosen to attend at Villa Nicolosi, Lady Federica shall lead the celebrations with a performance on the harp. The Lady Federica shall perform from a small selection of Illatian compositions and brief motifs to spark the energy within the Hall before the next activity.

Pit Fighting Tournament

As the recital comes to a close, those who remain will make way to the local tourney grounds and within the Alban pit, soldiers will compete for a grand prize consisting of custom weaponry, mina, and special Illatian wares. All are free to compete; the ledger of competitors shall be finalized at the start of the tournament.

–

With the new Rosavena estate, Villa Nicolosi, so too do new ways for the household to pay its due shares within Alba. For many generations, the Illatian Houses: Montelliano, Visconti, Varoche, and Rosavena have shared a passion for wine that few heritages can match. With this passion for wine and the many ways one can enjoy it, and with our new home, we have acquired trees and gardens to cultivate our own beverages. In the years that have passed, many members of the house have created specialty wines - so now we hope with joyous music, illatian appetizers, and a cause to celebrate, you all may join us for wine tasting and festivities.

 The Year of our Lord, 2082

We do wish thee health, and for those in tender service to the archduchy, respect and honour.

With the intent clear, so do we bid thee to join us as a member of our goodly party, so that I am accompanied upon an excursion to one of Alba’s most mystifying locations: Cecily’s Mirror. Our devotions so often pray for collective friendship amongst us lordlings and ladylings. It is our hope that we may transcend beyond titles, colours and banners to continue to know each other with friendly fondness. May the many dear friendships we hath created, continue to flourish. Thus, once more, do we invite thee to share in a meeting of simple joys, where friendships may burgeon; this time amidst the beauty and bewildering gifts of nature.

Found away from the frequented Southward King’s Road, just East of St. Godwinsburg’s walls, sheltered among quiet woodland, is Cecily's Mirror. A pool of crystal clear water, its purity renowned throughout the Archduchy. Long has it been kept as a place of good peace and fine tranquility. And so, hence it is a site often visited by wanderers, dreamers and the curious. 

Most wondrous of all are: the tall tales that speak of the mistress of the pond, one Lady Lureline, said to be the nymph who dwells there, as a protector. Though said to have only been seen by a fortunate few, her mythic status is the subject of many tales told throughout Alba, by commoner and noble alike. Some speak of her radiant presence, a glowing azure womanly figure, others of speak of the stewardship she brings to the surrounding groves, yet more, of the blessings said to be brought by drinking from the waters when in the midst of her magical presence.

For the pleasure of all the attendants we shall meet at Godwinsburg’s gates then descend unto Cecily’s Mirror, where we shall commit the traditions told of the nymph-Lady Lureline. May we enjoy the folkloric legends of the Albans, whilst, always, seeking to make friendship among us.

TOKENS FOR LADY LURELINE [5PM EST]

Upon arriving at the Mirror, all attendants shall be invited to present a small token unto Mistress Lureline. Flowers, ribbons, poems, glass beads and other crafts. Gifts of sentimental meaning are warmly encouraged. These offerings shall be laid by the water’s side, a mark of goodwill toward the Lady of the Mirror. Though none can promise her appearance, perhaps our kindly presence, and gifts of kindness shall delight the nymph, and she might emerge to be beholden.

DRINKING OF THE WATERS [6PM EST]

Following the giving of tokens, and a possible appearance from Lureline, those gathered shall draw vials from the waters of Cecily's Mirror. Once, all have gathered their share, they shall drink together beside the pool. And the effects shall be observed, for friendship cannot be fostered without a clear conscience.

Thereafter, the party shall remain near the pond, and will be at leisure to chatter or venture about the surrounding grounds, and most paramount: enjoy the fellowship of their peers.

So do we invite thee, noble daughters and lordlings of Alba and the Empire, to join us once more in the name of friendship and goodest spirit. Bring with thee an offering worthy of a Lady of the Mirror. Whether the fairy graces us with her presence may depend on the gifts we offer her. So, let the day be remembered for the friendships renewed and the memories we made. 

May thy journey be pleasant, thy company cheerful, and thy heart ever light until we meet beside the waters of Cecily's Mirror.

 

By the powers invested in us by the Archducal Crown of Alba, by decree of his Lordship, Jean Halcourt, Fourth Mayor of Saint Godwinsburg, let the Guild Letter Patent of the Dame Kaba Players' Guild of Saint Godwinsburg state: 

Formation

A theatre company and players’ guild known henceforth and, until decreed otherwise, as the Dame Kaba Players' Guild of Saint Godwinsburg shall be formed, or, in shortened name, the Dame Kaba Players Guild. Henceforth in this missive, it shall be referred to as the Guild. The Guild shall be in the patronage of the City of Saint Godwinsburg and the Office of its Mayor, starting immediately upon its establishment. 

Privileges

The Guild shall have the exclusive rights to use the theatre found in the Borough of Leever, including the right to allow other guilds and companies the temporary use of it, and to charge a small fee for such. This exclusive right does not extend to the Office of the Mayor of Saint Godwinsburg, or the Crown of Alba, both of which may use the theatre as they see fit. The Guild shall hold the right to host events at the theatre. The Guild shall hold the right to charge small fees or request donations upon the showing of anything at the aforementioned theatre. The Guild shall hold the right to hire and fire players, in accordance with the initial regulations of recruitment, as later established by this decree. The Guild shall hold the right to appoint a Director, in accordance with the initial regulations of recruitment, as later established by this decree. who shall oversee players and events.

Obligations

The Guild shall be held responsible to hold semi-regular events at the theatre. The Guild shall be responsible for the usage of any funds raised through donations, both at the theatre or at other times, or through fee, to be used only for the betterment of the Guild and its theatre. The Guild shall be responsible to keep the position of Director occupied at all times, with absence only for the period of searching.

Patronage

There shall be two permanent patrons of the Guild. These shall be, firstly, the Office of the Mayor of Saint Godwinsburg, occupied as of now by Lord Mayor Jean Halcourt. Secondly, the person of Her Highness, the Duchess of Furnestock, Lady Diane of Beaufort. While the Office of the Mayor of Saint Godwinsburg shall change hands throughout the years, to Lady Diane of Beaufort patronage of the Guild is granted to as a person, not a title, and for lifelong time. 

Patrons have the right to, in consensus, appoint and dismiss the Director and Members of the Guild. Furthermore, they have the right to, in consensus, terminate any specific event organised by the Guild which they do find to be in poor moral or cultural tastes. Finally, the Office of the Mayor of Saint Godwinsburg, as the patent-granting office, has the right to issue new patents for the Guild, after seeking advice of Her Ladyship, Diane of Beaufort.

Hark! Be ye virtuous of action, lively in spirit, and witty by words? The Dame Kaba Players' Guild of Saint Godwinsburg is looking for members of the most talented degree. Three membership roles are open for recruitment. These are the roles of one (1) Guild Director, of an unnumbered amount of Guild Members, and of three (3) Writers. All three of these membership roles are to be players, expected to participate in the goings on at the theatre, alongside their other duties. 

The requirements to join follow:

One must be at least six-and-teen (16) years of age.

One must be of the good Tribes of Descendantdom, being Horen, Malin, and Krug. 

One must be of good virtue, without any record of great sin lacking penance. If one is publicly professing a faith, it must be either Canonism, True Faith, or the Rashidun Faith.

It is with heavy heart that the House of Helvets does announce the tragic passing of ADRIAN ALEXANDER HELVETS, Baron of Owynsburg and Master of Myre Hall, after nearly a decade of fevered illness.

A capable statesman and former Speaker of the House of Lords, the Baron of Owynsburg was tragically struck down in his prime by an illness believed to have been acquired abroad during one of his many business ventures in the trade of livestock. He has long suffered from this affliction, so we can only pray that GOD has finally allowed him the hard-earned peace that has evaded him for many years. He has been laid to rest  privately by his lady wife and his leal household and beside his late son Lord Foltest outside the walls of Owynsburg.

Herein is the succession to the Barony of Owynsburg likewise affirmed to pass into the hands of LADY DOROTHEA MAGDALENA HELVETS, who has reached her age of majority. She shall now take up all titles and properties held by her father, as is her birthright. 

The Baroness-Dowager shall maintain her title by virtue of her widowhood, and maintain a chamber within Myre Hall to be used at her leisure.

The House of Helvets asks for the offering of prayers on behalf of the late lord’s soul, during this period of mourning, and asks for condolences to be given to the Baroness of Owynsburg as she undertakes this newfound burden of peerage.

We ask that you protect all those who pass onto these lands and enter the Rosavena Hall, and continue to push our House to strive for closeness to you, so we may know continuous joy for generations to come; so that we may see the continuous cycle of those scholars, politicians, doctors, clergymen, and creatives who render themselves servants to you.

PEOPLE OF AZURAS. . .

For some time now, the House Rosavena has lacked the proper space to host more than a simple tea within our manor home. Yet, those we find ourselves in service to have smiled kindly upon our house, and so the new halls of Villa Nicolosi have at last been constructed and brought into a reality beyond mere blueprints - this new home of ours built in a fashion common to we Illatians; a space to welcome many guests.

Therefore, with the joyous manner of House Rosavena, all those who find themselves within the Imperium of Azuras shall be welcomed upon our new estate to celebrate and enjoy that which we have worked so tirelessly to earn beneath the banners of our gracious Archduke.

We shall first be joined together in faith as we bless the estate. Thereafter, we shall make our way through the home for a grand tour before returning to Rosavena Hall, where guests shall be accompanied by music of both Illatian and Alban fashion. At the same time, refreshments and pastries are offered, and those who dare to dance may take the floor.

After the arrival and greeting of those guests who have chosen to attend at Villa Nicolosi, a prayer shall be offered and the home blessed by Reverend Father Florian ( @traurigcamper ). An occasion for the people of Alba and the Imperium to gather together in faith, and to ask that God keep the household beneath His grace and protection.

A Painting of Kaba Halcourt smelling the flowers that grew in the shared gardens between her familys home and the Halcourt Estate

At 23 summers young, a woman by the name of Kaba Monspire found herself stepping foot into what was then known simply as the Duchy of Alba. Summoned by a missive she found during her travels, she met face to face with the Lord Commander, seeking to join the Prince's Army. Having left her family, she had nowhere else to go and was tired of a life on the road, so she decided to stay. During this time, she steadily worked her way up the ranks to Sergeant. She also fell for a fellow soldier in the army and was welcomed with open arms by the Halcourt family, who, even though she had a lower status, did not see her as a lesser person.

After participating in a stage play herself, she found great joy in writing them, spending any time she could outside of the military in writing these plays and hosting them on the stage. Her joy in the arts caught the eyes of a few, and after some time she was offered a position she felt unworthy for, taking on the position of Headmistress of the Princes Institution, an offer from the Rosavena family. Having been through the Salvos and Haense war, as well as the devastating loss of her husband after only seven short years of marriage, she agreed, hoping it would come with a calmer, more steady life. This wish did not last, as keeping a continuous roster of students and instructors was far harder than any battle she had been in, but she had always been a stubborn woman.

As the continent she loved fell to ruin, she boarded the boats that took her to Azuras. After the long journey, her body continued to grow weaker with age and her mind wearier. Every day she'd enter the halls, her eyes cast onto the statue in the foyer with "Dame Kaba Halcourt" inscribed below, and it gave her strength, wishing to live up to the title that was bestowed upon her. This strength did not last long, and she knew that when the next generation of students flooded the halls, she could not keep up with her duties. And so she paid her fare on a small ship and traveled somewhere new. Finding a small cottage on the shore, Kaba remained there for many more years, spending her days watching the water and her evenings writing anything that came to mind. Stationed so far away came with a price news often reached her far too late. It nearly broke her to hear the news of her dear friends' passing, and by the time news of her grandchildren's birth had reached her, she was far too weak to travel.

Kaba Halcourt was found resting eternally in God's embrace by a traveling merchant in the year 2080. The tables were filled with old books and half-written works. A painting of the woman at a much younger age hung on the wall, next to a painting of herself and her late husband. Left on the bedside table was a letter addressed to her youngest daughter, Octavia Halcourt.

Forgive your mother, for I did not give you the life you deserved. When you married into the Rhoswald family, I knew you would be cared for, for their familial bond is stronger than most forged steel. I leave you with nothing of worth, but know your father and I are so proud of you, and I am forever sorry that I did not get to meet your children.

\It is with much pleasure that these summons are set forth. For, as many of thee will know, although castle life may be comfortable, the nonage of the young persons reared therein, can become predictably stodgy. Despite the many courtly and kindly subjects who offer us their precious time, yet still, it is easy to pass the days wanting in companions of similar age and station. Thus, by this noble assembly, to which thou art all invited to attend, we many gentle sons and daughters of the mighty houses, can come together to make friendships and keep the goodly concord of all the realms of Man.

Let it be known that no child can flourish in solitude, nor can any person go without the kindness of friendship. Indeed, friendships founded in youth, tempered by sports or courtly activities, are made for life. The courtesy of the company of one's own peers is where our virtue is sharpened, our wit created and, most importantly, where our greatest joy is found. For the pleasure of all the attendants we shall gather the ladies and lordlings at several events throughout the course of the gathering. Always, with the aim of creating strong bonds of kindly friendship.

LADYLIKE PRESENTATION OF DRESSES [4PM EST]

The young ladies of the Empire shall gather within Castle Glasgon to present their finest gowns before their fellow gentleladies. Each ensemble shall be judged upon elegance, tailoring, and originality. The most admired presentation shall receive a prize of 100 minae alongside the distinction of being named the Lady Radiant.

CRAFTING OF FAVOURS [5PM EST]

Prior to the sparring contest, that will be held later in the eve, the young ladies shall convene to craft delicate favours of ribbon, cloth and embroidery for the participant of their choosing. These tokens shall be presented before the tourney begins, offering luck and inspiration upon the field.

LORDLY SPARRING CONTEST [6PM EST]

Everyone will gather at the Alban tourney grounds, brawl pits, where young lords of the Empire shall brawl by fist and training sword. The young ladies will offer their favours unto their favoured combatant, to offer them luck. The winner of the contest will receive a prize of 150 minae, along with bragging rights and the prestige of claiming the silver ribbon of the Laureled Scion.

So we beseech thee, all pleasant lordlings, to come with thy goodness and splendour, and attend us in Alba for this celebration of youth and happiness. We invite thee hither, but do  request that all noble children wishing to attend, bring a keeper, protector or ward-master, so that nay child be without an adult person to keep them well and occupied, should they so need.

The question arises: where should we settle after so many years in exodus? To answer this, we look to ancestral ties. Nearly eight hundred years ago, our forebearers from our parent house owed an oath of fealty to none but themselves. After searching through countless documents, this is the oldest oath we ever swore to any liege. 

Hence, we seek to honor this ancient bond and restore our connection to our independence. Thus, we aim to settle in the Republic of Salvo, and to reclaim our mixed heritage: 1/4 Savoyard; 1/4 Auvergnian; 1/4 Idunian; 1/4 Mali'aheral. In doing so, it is our hope to serve not just the House af Brasca, but the Republic as a whole, in our traditional role as scriveners, administrators, and bureaucrats.

It is a pleasure to announce that before GOD, gathered friends and family, within the hallowed sanctum of The Cathedral of Fifty Skulls, beneath its vaulted ceilings that echo with the prayers of generations, the two souls, Lord Marcel Benoît Devereux and Meredith Erzsebet de Senna shall be joined in holy matrimony on the upcoming year, 2080 of The Age of Mankind.

In this joining, there is found not only the promise of companionship, but love and endurance as the strengthening of both bonds. The office of His Serene Highness’ Chancellery doth announce the commencement of a period of mayoral elections. This Year of Our Lord, two-thousand and seventy-nine, elections are hence called into effect.

Prospective candidates shall have until next Horen’s Calling to deliver a letter to the Lady Chancellor expressing their intention of candidacy. Once nominations are complete, candidates shall be given a period of time to campaign and will be invited to attend a debate to be questioned by the citizens of Saint Godwinsburg. Thereafter, a ballot box, for voting, shall be constructed in Prince’s Square, at the heart of the city, and residents may begin casting their ballots.

The requirements for candidacy are listed hence

1. The Candidate must be of at least ten and eight years of age.
2. The Candidate must be a permanent resident of the City of Saint Godwinsburg.
3. The Candidate must not be a title-bearer or noble peer of the realm.
4. The Candidate must profess and adhere to the Faith of the Canon.

The requirements to vote in the mayoral election are listed hence

1. All voters must be of at least ten and eight years of age.
2. All voters must be a permanent resident of the City of Saint Godwinsburg.
3. All voters must not have any outstanding unpaid tax-obligations or criminal charges within the Empire of Man or the Archduchy of Alba. 

The election period shall extend till next year, two-thousand and eighty, and upon the last day of Sun’s Smile the ballots received shall be collected, counted and confirmed, wherein a public declaration shall be made announcing the victor and new Mayor of Saint Godwinsburg. Well wishes unto thee, each and all hopeful candidates.

It is with good tidings that the Barony of Owynsburg invites all of the Realm to celebrate the enduring and bountiful spring with the House of Helvets.

Surrounding Myre Hall and within the humble village of Owynsburg, the to-be Baroness of Owynsburg shall host the Festival of Flowers.

The Festival of Flowers shall take place across the months of Godfrey’s Triumph and Aurelian’s Glory.

For the first month, the fields around Owynsburg shall be home to a grand market fair, where merchants from all across Azuras shall be invited to sell goods pertaining to their deeds and cultures.

The market shall remain open for the entire duration of the festival.

Upon the second month, willing participants shall gather in the Cathedral of Fifty Skulls, where a public prayer shall be held for the brave soldiers who shall join the High Pontiff’s crusade against the Black Church, foul Darkspawn, and Worshippers of Iblees. Following the prayer, all shall return to Owynsburg, where a community crafts event shall be held, so that favours and good luck charms can be made for loved ones and soldiers. 

Following the community crafts, once the sun has set, all shall gather in the gardens of Owynsburg, for the gardeners have predicted that an exotic flower will be in full bloom for the first time in over fifty years.

Everyone is invited to witness this thrice in a lifetime opportunity and gather in the gardens of Owynsburg. If you are unable to bring a mask or perfume, some will be provided! (It is greatly advised.)

Politics is the goodly domain of a lord, and the study of a lord-to-be, such as I. Upon the death of our late Emperor, Hadrian I, Conqueror of Azuras, I have been compelled to write of politics. Now, the horrific passing of the Lord of Dover, who was murdered by peasant brigands and their Salvian allies, does trouble me so. These great men knew the good practice of politics. In their memories, I write.

Who am I? I, dear reader, am Jean Guillèm Halcourt. We are lord-Heir d’Artois. Yet, in the company of friends, I am known as Jean. So, to you, reader, I am Jean. For there is no practice of politics here. Only the study of politics rests upon these pages. 

Herein, I have proposed my definitions of the familiar terms of political philosophy. These terms are known and well discussed, but seldom defined. If I am to write of politics, and such I intend to do often and in depth, then there must be a basis for such. These definitions serve as such. I hope you, dear reader, might find them of use, as I do.

I. What is Politics?

To write of politics is to write of the ordering of relations. These relations, as are all relations, are formed of power and sorted in hierarchy. Power and hierarchy are divinely ordained to flow in one predictable, natural, and recurring pattern. I hope to expand upon such in later writings. Well and good politics are those which order relations in well (well being working and efficient) and good (good, of course, being virtuous and in line with God and nature) ways. Well and good politics will always guide us to peace and prosperity. Poor and evil politics, being the pure opposite of well and good politics, shall always lead us astray, to war, famine, and, if not ceased, anarchy. So, if you read me tell of politics, know that I speak of hierarchy and the occupation of maintaining hierarchy.

What, then, is the practice of politics? The maintenance of hierarchy, as I wrote before. Lo, but what does such mean? One speaks of good and poor politics, what does such mean? Hark, the lord and the Salvian, practice politics, but one is good, and the other is poor. The lord maintains hierarchy, writing laws and taxing those below the lordly stature. The lord gives taxes to those above him. This strengthens the bonds of servitude and obligation, which through, hierarchy is maintained. The Salvian seeks to spread the work of politics amongst all the classes, be they noble, burgher, or serf. Such power, sovereignty, and authority are diluted like watered red wine and weaken hierarchy.  

One might ask: are the animals and beasts of the world practitioners of politics? Let us say I agree that there is hierarchy between animals and beasts. Let us say I agree that the wolf is naturally above the rabbit, as is true for the Emperor above the lord. This, I believe, is a statement not without issue, but I shall give it to you. Does the rabbit give itself willingly to the wolf? Does the wolf protect the rabbit? Nae. Even if there are politics between animals and beasts, they remain unpracticed and thus unworthy of study.

II. What is Sovereignty? 

Sovereignty is the power to control, of which all states have to some degree. States shall be described in the next section. Sovereignty is the right to enact laws and organize politics beneath a state. It is the right to raise troops and levy taxes. Sovereignty is a state’s right to itself, in a sense. Clearly, this is hierarchical, as all good things must be. A lord is sovereign over his vassals, and those vassals over their vassals. The state is always sovereign to those under it, but need not be entirely sovereign, for no state is sovereign under God. Thus, sovereignty is something which a state can partake in more or less of. The mechanisms whereby sovereignty is attained and squandered are for another time and another essay, dear reader.

III. What is the State?

The state, whereby I mean the mechanism through which hierarchy is maintained and sorted, is, by clear rationale, the preeminent item of politics. The state is the combination of sovereignty and practiced politics. A state can exist in many forms, and look remarkably different age to age. Some are good in their politics, such as the kingdom or archduchy. Some are poor, such as the republic or nomadom. Let us examine some states. 

The kingdom is a state of monarchy. This state practices politics in good ways. A king or queen, or other such titled ruler, doth rule over subjects in the monarchy by decree and fair force. The stability of rulership is maintained by hereditary or other procedures of, nearly always, dynastic succession. The nature of succession of the state is of little concern to hierarchy, however. What concerns hierarchy is the authority of the ruler. In a kingdom, the ruler shall rule absolutely over those under, and be ruled absolutely over by those above, God and beneath Him, I do hope, an Emperor. Such maintains hierarchy. 

The republic is the Salvian’s state. This state practices politics in poor ways. The Salvian’s forms his state to seek thus-called equality. The republic has councils of elected officials who vote on laws and decrees. Such is as if a hundred mayors were elected to decide the fate of a state. In the republic, politics and sovereignty are spoken of as if to be distributed among the masses. However, such is an impossibility. As I wrote of previously, hierarchy is broken under this state.

Perhaps at a later time I shall write of more and different types of states, if I feel compelled. However, this is a well point to start and, until later, leave the definition of the state at.

IV. What is an Empire?

Empires are one regular topic of discussion amongst educated and virtuous folk. The Empire is the roof under which the good theatre of Human politics is performed. The theatre can perform without a roof, certainly, but the players would find themselves subject to the elements. Empires are a form of state with these characteristics: A united Humanity, an Imperial Crownland, different laws and statutes abound, and a frontier. I shall elaborate on each.

One united Humanity is key to an Empire. At the Imperial peak, all Humans are subject to the Empire or a subject of the Empire, and, thus, the Empire. An Empire should have absolute political sovereignty over Humanity. This is not to say, however, that an Empire needs to have all human states and the like under it. This is the ideal of an Empire, set by Exalted Horen, in that of his Holiest City, and to be emulated by all emperors after him. 

An Imperial Crownland is a regular feature of an Empire. This is where the Imperial government sits. Often Heartlander in ethnicity, though need not be, this land is typically fertile, urban, and vibrantly cultured. Ideals about the Empire, its culture, and its policies are pushed out from the heartlands throughout the Empire.

Within and beyond the Crownland, many states sit subject to the Empire. These states often have different, though typically not conflicting, thus more often than not, additional, laws and statutes from the Imperial government. Such is sovereignty. Exempli gratia: My good State, the Archduchy of Alba, has codes of knightly conduct dictating matters of knighthood. These codes sit outside of the Imperial sphere and within the sphere of Alban sovereignty over its subjects. 

At last, one reaches the periphery of the Empire. Here nature grows wild and untamed, and the land is often unsuited for agriculture besides the agrestal kind. Often, these lands are very hot or cold, with fierce seasons. Beyond such, Heathenry Tribes doth dwell.

So I conclude this short essay with this: Pursue the study of good politics, my friends. The practice of politics might be the realm of lords and ladies, kings and queens, and emperors and empresses alone, but the study of politics is for all. As I have explained in this treatise, the goal of politics is the maintenance of good hierarchy. Policy Update

Notice Regarding Changes to Printing & Publishing Policies

Due to the recent misuse of our open-door policy for the printing facilities, we have decided to revise our policies regarding printing, publishing, and the use of our press.

Until now, our doors were open to all citizens of the realm. We have always believed in the importance of honest and principled expression, and thus allowed anyone to print books, papers, pamphlets, posters, and more using the press located in our cellar. This open policy extended especially to the adjacent school, giving students the opportunity to print their work and publish their studies.

We are aware that we are among the very few—if not the only—printing establishments in the Crownlands. For this reason, we chose not to restrict access, placing our trust in the citizens not to misuse these resources for improper purposes.

However, this policy must now change due to a breach of that trust, specifically the printing and distribution of the “Lady Truthfull” pamphlets. We strongly condemn these publications, as they lack any journalistic integrity and appear to be motivated solely by personal grievance and agenda.

As a result, the printing press will no longer be open for unrestricted public use. We will continue to offer free printing services to citizens, but only by appointment.

Those wishing to print papers, books, pamphlets, or other materials may request an appointment by leaving a letter in the bookstore mailbox or by contacting us via raven. The use of the printing press will remain free of charge.

We sincerely apologize for this change in policy, but the current circumstances make it necessary. We warmly invite you to continue visiting our bookstore. In the coming weeks, we plan to expand our collection with returning classics as well as new titles being published for the first time.

THE CLASH OF FAIRMARKET

Issued by the Knight Commander

On the 8th of Sigismund’s End, 2076

To the Citizenry of our fair Archduchy,

In the fields surrounding Saint Godwinsburg, a cry of distress was called up and into the night. A band of so-called peasants, led by the infamous Dirk, had seen fit to prey upon the leal gentry of our realm. In an effort to pursue darker deeds, they had seemed willing to even do harm to a youth of Alba, unarmed and defenseless in the face of such villainy.

In their diligence, a contingent of the Black Banner of Alstion heeded the sound of alarm, though did find themselves nearly overwhelmed by the sheer ferocity with which those lowborn mercenaries met them amidst those stalks of grain. The clangor of castleforged steel rang loudly, with those men-at-arms being met with blades of equal craft to their own. It had seemed all might turn to ruin…

Until the roar of a horn did sound, hailing from the southwest Daelwood upon the symphony of thundering hooves. Mounted upon blackened steed, Sir Rickard sat upright in his saddle, longsword lofted eagerly. At his back, a ready company of Ostlunders galloped just behind. In synchronicity, another warhorn did sound from the gates of the city, where the Knight Commander Sir Everett did sally out with his fellow shields and squires. Among those guards of both common and noble birth, it was Inku Vierto who proved the most spirited in his pursuit, whilst Dirk himself was apprehended singlehandedly by a most unexpected combatant - a hobbit called Wilibald Proudbottom.

In a great collision of horseflesh and spurs, those rebellious insurgents were swiftly cut down by the leal soldiers of Alba, to the rejoicing of those commonfolk so distressed by that earlier incursion. It was a decisive victory, made especially fortuitous by the capture of both Dirk and several of his fellow leaders. A great roar went up through the defending company, as those prisoners were escorted within the high walls of Castle Glasgon.

As the Knight Commander and Lady Chancellor both stood before those kneeling brigands, Dirk did spit at Sir Everett’s feet. He made demand for a duel, to the death, as trial for both he and his companions. To forego a formal trial was their wish, and so Sir Everett did grant them their final desire.

One after the other, each peasant leader was afforded freshened steel and armor from the forge of Spencer Tower. So too were they taken to the castle yard, to do battle with the Knight Commander himself. Each man, with a curse upon his lips and prayer to GOD for mercy upon their souls, did fall to the longsword of the noble night. Their desired justice had been done, proving their guilt before the watchful eyes of the Alban people.

Let the rout of these foes serve as both a reminder and a warning. To those who seek to sow turmoil and distrust between the commonfolk and nobility of Alba,  you shall find no purchase here. We stand strong in the face of any enemy, beneath the banner of our Imperium and our Archduchy.
