A sickness has taken root in Rittersburg and afflicted many of its inhabitants - it is with great regret that I announce myself amongst them. Though I remain steadfast in spirit, I must, for a time, withdraw from the full exercise of Imperial duty to see to my recovery and the restoration of my strength.

Therefore, by this writ, I establish a temporary Regency over the Imperial Crown. My Archchancellor, Ezra de Senna ( @FireAGN ), and my Justiciar, Joan Mariana Horen ( fat@trinn), are hereby entrusted as Co-Regents to govern the Empire in my stead until such time as I return to good health. They shall exercise the authority of the Crown in all necessary matters, ensuring the faithful execution of my will throughout the realm.

Let all subjects of the Empire recognize their authority accordingly and render them due obedience. The Imperial Regency shall take full effect upon the promulgation of this missive.

IMPERIAL DECREE | On Vassal Conflict

The Lord Praetor is the head of internal warfare within the Imperium. His task is to maintain stability within the imperium by resolving disputes and settling grudges.

☩ -VASSAL WARS:

All vassals partaking in inter-vassal warfare should go to the Lord Praetor for any grievances or petitions on matters of warfare, to then be brought to the attention of the Emperor if it is deemed worth his time.

Furthermore, it is expected of the vassals in question to bring their grudges before the Landsraad, so they might be settled without further need of involvement from the Lord Praetor

✷ Just Cause

Conflict within the imperium is not allowed unless the cause is just, and this impartial basis is only for the Emperor to decide. This will take into account the balance of probability and whether a war, in earnest, requires battle. Usually, it is for the Emperor to attempt to stop any wars amongst his vassals, but if no other resolution has been identified besides war, then it may be allowed. Wars may occur for numerous reasons, including honor-bound conflict, ancestral history, family scorn, conflict abetted by soldiers, or conflict due to nobility's disrespect. There are endless causes for war.

✷ War Goals

A war goal is the primary aim of the war. Usually, this is discussed by the Emperor himself, and in the end, it will be for the Emperor to decide. At the same time, it is the Emperor's role to offer a better goal. At the conclusion of the war, it is for the Emperor to ensure that the winning side has been met with the terms of agreement, and should the vassal not agree with the specified terms upon their loss, this is considered a direct act of treason against the Emperor himself and will be met by force and punishment. A war goal can be as simple as a written apology from the losing side, the execution of a perpetrator, or other terms decided on by the Emperor.

✷ Imperial Permission

War requires the Emperor’s seal and signature, and without it, vassals are unable to partake. The direct medium in order to partake in a war must be deemed acceptable by the Emperor himself. If the conflict is between the vassals of other crown vassals, it is for the crown vassal to attempt to mediate. If the crown vassal is unable to mediate the conflict between his own vassals, or with the vassals of another crown vassal, both crown vassals must speak directly to the Emperor, who will then allow and send out an excerpt of war commitments. The word of the Emperor is final on matters of war, and this cannot be appealed.

In addition, subvassals must first attain full permission from their liege lord before approaching the Lord-Praetor.

✷ War Alliances

The imperium will never allow or justify external alliances or mercenary support in vassal disputes. An extremely quick growth of levymen in a vassal pre-war, will be investigated by the Emperor to exclude any foul play.

✷ War Impost

In the Holy Imperium, the role of the Emperor is to be the highest temporal authority, with a landmass as vast as the whole continent; his duties are bound up with numerous issues. The matter of war is a concern of vanity and is never a good ordeal, and so, it is for the warring party to offer (as a gift of courtesy) the Emperor a donation worth the war goal. It is for the vassal to offer and tread carefully, as the value of the Emperor’s time could be taken as an insult. The war impost will be discussed by the Lord Praetor and the Emperor, and set on a case-by-case basis.

On top of this, vassals must pay a fee of 10-mina per war-eligible combatant, multiplying each tile their path passes through on their way to the targeted vassal.

✷ On Foul Magic

If any party is found to consort with foul magic, and evidence is brought forward to support such a claim, the Emperor may seek a punishment befitting of the crime.

OOC: If a party is caught hacking, the war may be conceded in the opposing vassal’s favour.

The Maleficarum rot encroaches evermore into our Holy Imperium, seeking to unleash the machinations of their horrid abyss upon our people. Reikenor and its ungodly thralls have grown bolder in their attempts to taint our divine mandate - reports have reached my office of an assault soon upon Ildon. This blight has been allowed to fester in the shadows unchecked for far too long.

I shall not mince words, nor waste time.

The Empire shall pursue the total, unforgiving eradication of all Maleficar from our continent.

To the Mother Church, our forces are wholly pledged: the Black Church and Black Sepulchre shall cease to exist, alongside its tainted filth.

To all Maleficar. Cower in darkness all you want. Flee to the very ends of the world. It matters not, the fires shall find you regardless. Our Father of Flame demands a heavy tithe and it shall be paid.

To Ildon, you do not stand alone. We march.

In a continent entire were those wayward pieces torn asunder in petty lordlings and claimants, but it is no longer so. Bowed before that Throne are all things living and unliving, and so too shall those Horenic titles of auld; the true restoration initiated by Tiberias the First is made finalized, and the Dragonsblood flows again in the Dynasty of Dynasties. That which is unclaimed, and belongs rightfully to the Imperator Imperatorum, are returned to his signature per this document serving as Notary. To stand above a Holy Orenian Emperor, even if a continuation of that Prophetic title.

THE FALL OF URGUAN

A stone beard hung from the trembling walls of the Grand Kingdom; its mountain burrowed deep, ballistas armed each level of their clad stone walls, and numerous defences, such as raised palisades and traps were constructed to halt the imperial advance. The Empire arrived at their doorstep, only a few feet away from the river-crossing, and began their construction.

As men and women prepared the siege camp, cutting upon the nature for logs to construct rudimentary walls, and a small bridge over the canal, they also feasted and cheered within their tents at the joyous prospect of concluding this wall. Through time, the dwarf-orc coalition had been cut down, and soon enough, beyond those walls, only 5,200 soldiers awaited the defence of Kal’Baraz, the capital city of the Kingdom of Urguan.

Beyond those walls, the siege-camp festered with the might of the Empire, combined rightfully by the forces of those within it: the High Kingdom of Idunia, the Kingdom of Norland, the Shugonate of Kurai-Kuni and the Holy Protectorate of Malin (Caurost).

Within the largest encampment, four figures lounged within and planned the siege-works. Upon the seat of the square table, the Emperor, Hadrian I, headed the goals; to his side, the High King Tar-Zôrzagar assisted in the calculations. The Shugo Honda and Prince Galahad stared out towards the plan; the Kurai-Kuni forces were assembled to assist with the trebuchets, their main focal point being towards the sturdiest portion of the mountain. As they went inwards, alongside the assistance of wooden supports, a plan was made–to tunnel through their innumerable defences. The King Haraldr was charged with the spreading of disseminated information to the enemy, such as fall plans or otherwise, something he perfected -- a big sway to the changes of the Urguan's course of action.

In charge of the main forces lay one of Hadrian’s chosen; a boy – or just a squire – who he saw in him great potential and commandeering strength: Robert Montalt-Rovin.

The canons were aimed towards the ballistas, all armed in sections: the Count of Valmont, Sir Antonius Helane, took to the right; behind him, the lead of the Iron Guard of Angrenost, Ser Boromir Mithrenion, joined from behind. Directly next to him stood Kusi Amaru, further joined by Therin of Petra and squire Soren. A wandering knight, Ser Otis, took stern to the leftmost canons with the aid of soldiers of Valwyck, alongside the Duke of Lorraine, Sir Lothar d’Amaury and his retinue of soldiers. In the centre, a halfling by the name of Arthur Littlewood took control of the central aimed canon, its haft pointed towards the upper ballistas; Jarad Mah’nel, Horace and even His Holiness, Caius II the High Pontiff partook and assisted in the management and use of canons.

All the trebuchets were handpicked and assigned by a mixture of both imperial-and-shugonate forces. The head of these trebuchets stood the Shugo Honda himself joined by Hirano Jiro, the next trebuchets were armed in order of: Kato Ena, Ugokoyama Wasabi, and then followed by the imperials, Dame Noiye, Sir Corswain, and then Dame Johanna whose assistance was gathered by both the Emperor himself and his favoured son, Prince Titus of the House Horen. To the left, the other trebuchets were armed by further kurai-kuni forces, namely: Seiryu Taigen, Hirano Tamaki and Hirano Haruhi.

The preparations were set in motion. With a small sway of his hand, something ruminated from the furthest hill–a horse, curated of stone, was hurled forth marred by the banners of the conjoined Empire.

With the horse's arrival, the horn-bearer Halrik van Aert boomed through the held relic; a dragon’s roar ushered out towards the gates of Urguan, and so, the battle began.

FIRE!

In coordination, the canons all fired at once; imperial forces found themselves scattered by harsh-pelting ballista shots from the first volley of dwedmar artillery, but fortunately, the canons made swift work–they ripped through the ballistas, pounding them akin to drums, and causing their immediate collapse. A scarce handful stood within the ballistas holding, poorly-manned; the High King of Idunia created the perfect breach.

A flag was hurled up, and with the initiation provided, Robert Montalt-Rovin peeled the ladders onto the walls, climbing head-first into dwarven-orcish line. Swiftly, the top-and-bottom half of the outer mountain walls were occupied, and the little scraggly units of dwed-and-urukim were put to rest.

The Emperor raised his hand, initiating the trebuchet volley; they worked in perfect sequence, starting from the front, and then ending at the rear. The trebuchets pounded into the mountain, and with the assistance and command of the Shugo Honda, supports were raised into the curated tunnel. Deeper and deeper into the mountain the trebuchets went, as imperial forces continued their small skirmishes outside of the city gate; soon enough, dwed forces pulled back into their internal gates.

Robert Montalt-Rovin pulled the forces out of the hole; with the combined effort of both the canon-crew and trebuchet-crew, eventually, after restless nights, a breach was made.

All forces combined stepped forth, and hurled themselves through the sog-wetten cave stretch. Pounding small rams through the doors, and clambering over makeshift walls with ladders, the Empire and Coalition forces met.

Silence perturbed the room.

With a furious roar, both sides clashed, and blood spilled across the capital’s courtyard. It squelched across the marble; some dwarves, noticeably, fell into their own traps, and were hounded by the imperials. During this clash, the Grand King of Urguan was nowhere to be found, hiding behind one of the ballistas on the exterior walls – his men and women fighting valiantly outside his very throne-room.

It became evident, the dwindling Urguani and Horde forces were left battered. By the end of the month, a scarce 200 dwarves were able to escape from their city.

Smoke wafted out from the tunnel breached into the mountain.

A dragon rested within.

The banners of Urguan fell, cluttering against the road.

Soon enough, they were replaced by the Empire’s crest.

URGUAN HAS FALLEN

The Grand Kingdom is no more.

THE DISSOLUTION OF THE HORDE

On the 8th of the Sun's Smile, 646 AA (277 S.A) , the surrender of the Horde of Many Tribes has been ratified, with the terms considered below.

✠ ARTICLE I | Dissolution

The Horde of Many Tribes will be dissolved as a sovereign realm, and will cease to exist as a nation. It will no longer be considered a political entity within the continent of Azuras, and will be removed from any map or charter that recognises it as such. All vassals of the Horde will henceforth be dissolved.

The title of Rex will be dissolved and will be held by no uruk. Any other political title hosted by the urukim will be dissolved.

✠ ARTICLE II | Departure

The Horde of Many Tribes will depart all of their current existing lands. They will be granted one saint’s week to move all existing items and objects from their capital city, which will then be left to be turned into ruins. All vassals of the Horde, now dissolved, will be given one saint's week to move.

All land left vacant will be considered ownership of the Empire and can never be resettled by the orcs.

✠ ARTICLE III | Re-emergence

The Horde of Many Tribes will make no attempts to re-emerge as a sovereign entity, and any uruk that attempts to create a nation or settlement, which includes: a large village or city for the orcish-populace must first gain approval from the Emperor.

An attempt to create a new orcish settlement without express approval will be deemed a breach of these conditions.

✠ ARTICLE IV | Integration

The Urukim will make no attempts to, in the future (should article 3 apply) integrate human vassals into their settlement.

An attempt to integrate humans within orcs will be considered a breach of these conditions.

✠ ARTICLE V | Stability

The Urukim will be allowed to construct yurts or tents on the roadside in order to live or sleep within. Should any realm hold no law against the urukim, they are allowed to facilitate or purchase property in those realms. The urukim can only settle tents either: in the wilderness, or in places where the owner of said realm has provided express approval.

Tents and yurts can not be used to house a make-shift city or village, as this would require acceptance as per article 3.

✠ ARTICLE VI | Pardon

The Urukim will be officially pardoned for their crimes within the war, and will no longer be considered kill on sight unlike their dwarven forebears. The Urukim will be granted a level of protection from persecution due to the reasons of this war, but the actions of the urukim individually must be accounted for themselves. Urukim will not be barred from entering realms or nations unless their laws explicitly deem it so. Any realm that infringe on urukim rights must choose peaceful means before violence.

The Urukim may enter the imperial city for the purposes of trade, but cannot purchase a property within the city. The Urukim will hold the same class as those of the elves, but may never employ or partake in any imperial institution.

Any urukim considered affiliated with any bandit or renegade groups, such as Salvo or otherwise exist, they shall be killed on sight.

With this notice, the Horde is hereby considered dissolved.

Azuras is conquered.

The maleficar – or other creatures of the dark – have been known to spur their influence since the dark ages of the infantile world. Feasting upon the bones of our men, draping themselves in the same flesh as our own, they integrate into society.

Fortunately for us, the beasts and monsters do not seem to be endowed with greater intellect, as they seem rabble to being caught before even our short lives are expended. They will make themselves blatantly known, creating great black sepulchres of cruel hurdling stones, or place large skulls at the front of their doorstep – not the brightest, especially when some name themselves the ‘Witch King’ or otherwise.

It came to a surprise when I had found out that my loyal knight, Sir Corswain, battled one of these fiends himself; a bloodsucking fraud, the most egregious vampyr that haunts our society, their sharp canines suckling on the ichor of our children. Yet who was this dastardly mosquito, this leech? It was none other than Ghislain de Anjou, the Baron of Cleves, a peer of my own court, who was promptly culled by the hands of Sir Corswain.

I admit it openly – a mistake was made. How did this beast come into our ranks, the greater nobility of this Empire? Truly, I am uncertain.

To correct this mistake, all men, women, and children of the House de Anjou will be killed on sight. Any who attempt to defend their name will be killed on sight. With the obvious compromise comes the next obvious removal of their peerage, with the title of Baron of Cleves destroyed in full.

All those affiliated with the House de Anjou will be captured and thoroughly tested. If questions are failed, the knights have been professed the right to execute them.

As a prerequisite to the current standing, all noble lords are required to attend a test. This can be arranged as required, but must be conducted as soon as possible.

Let it be known, the mistake falls on the crown, and too, does the correction fall on the crown. No risks can be taken.

Nevertheless, I shall hope to see all of us at Cerulia.

With the numerous proposals sent to my council to see the Morifolk eradicated, and the long contentious debates to follow their rights and entitlements, I have opted to write this statement to make standard the known facts of their existence within our most Holy Imperium.

Although it is known that those of the spider-ilk had once conquered our lands, killed our people, and razed our settlements within the continent of Almaris, and for this, they should be punished gravely–it simply cannot be allowed.

I cannot justify breaking a deal sworn to the mutual benefit of the Imperium.With a vast exchange in knowledge, gifts of abundant resources, and even soldiers from the clans of the Morifolk after discussion with their Queen, soldiers who fight with us in our war against the urukim and dwed, it is for the benefit of both parties to not slaughter each other on the mainland or in the underworld.

However, I will speak plainly to all: the appearance of the Morifolk sickens me; their disgusting chitin; the vast mandibles escaping their mouth; the dotted adjustment of their eyes. For this reason, I cannot justify the actions taken by my vassal.

If my vassals deem the Morifolk to be anathema, such as those of Norland, then that is their jurisdiction – the crimes in Almaris cannot be forgiven, but in truth, I care little to lament on a history I was not present to see. I will not stop my vassals from enforcing their local legislature to ban and kill Morifolk.

Beyond this, the Morifolk are safe to tread the roads of the Empire without issue, and to enter the sanctimony of our imperial city. Yet you enter knowing that you have no rights, nor any entitlements. The law is not bound to you; if you shall be slain by a vengeful man who forsakes you within the city, he has committed no crime. My guardsmen will not act against you, but they shall not protect you either. You may not purchase housing, but may purchase stalls to trade as per our mutual agreement. The Morifolk who are granted the Emperor’s writ may find themselves protected and thus in bounds with our law, but this is unlikely to ever happen barring that of your Queen.

The Morifolk will be barred from ever gaining territory within the crownlands, and further to this, cannot be granted any titles. The Morifolk cannot hold any position or station within an institution bearing the Emperor’s seal. Any Morifolk who attempts to raise themselves to the same status, if not higher, than a Man shall be executed on sight. Any Morifolk who attempts to remind Man of the events of Almaris shall be executed on sight.

If the Morifolk seek to find peace upon the land, you must do so earnestly knowing that the Empire has claimed this continent. Your safety has been ensured by your Queen–it will cease to exist should your Queen decide to break our agreement.

I encourage scholarly exchange and trade between our people, but I cannot encourage disrespect. It has taken every follicle on my head to not kill any non-human, so take this as a blessing. Know well that you must use this time to garner any respect you can from the populace; if our deal is broken, you will be put to the blade.

The peace from (core) Empire comes from a roleplay event agreement with the Mori. Further to this, the Mori have just become a playable CA and I believe it would be quite unfun and unfortunate if they were KOS everywhere before they were even provided the opportunity to roleplay. It would restrict them heavily especially if it was declared by the Empire.

This is obviously subject to change based on RP (i.e. if Mori start doing dumb shi) but yeah. Good larps.

A FATHER'S BURDEN

ʜᴀᴅʀɪᴀɴ’ꜱ ᴍɪɴᴅ ᴅɪᴅ ɴᴏᴛ ꜱᴇᴇᴍ ᴛᴏ ꜰᴜɴᴄᴛɪᴏɴ ʟɪᴋᴇ ᴍᴏꜱᴛ ᴍᴇɴ – this had become apparent in the more recent years as Emperor, but there was something odd about him, even to the imperial family. Whereas his father stood as a warlord, and Hadrian’s brothers often mirrored the strength of the last Emperor, it was not the same for Hadrian. The man did not hold the same martial strength, nor the brutal cunning of a warlord – in truth, despite most dispositions, he did not enjoy painting his own hand in blood. Yet, he often saw death as an artistic poise; in his mind, the strongest warlord was one who did not need to lift the blade himself.

As his family grew up to become warriors and fighters, Hadrian drifted into an administrative role; he came to enjoy poetry, art, and also, the offices of the imperial state. There was something about the legislature of the Empire that enraptured him, and he spent his days lounging within his bedside reading and drafting proposals for his father. Blood was shed in the years of Tiberias’s reign, and soon enough, he came to enjoy watching it spill out from those who became useless adherents to humanity’s rise.

There came a time when Hadrian would be forced to marry–this in itself was a dire event to the depository of humanity for two simple reasons: the imperial lineage would continue, but at the same time, who would have the courage to marry the future ‘mad’ Emperor? Elizabeth of Balamena would be the unfortunate soul claimed as a victim to this man, and she bore him five children.

Rumours spread intermittently that Hadrian was a heartless tyrant, and that he would not come to love his own family. Despite some lingering truth to these scandals, as his marriage was loveless, Hadrian cherished his children and loved them verily, but he could not display it the same as most men, for he was unlike any man.

Each of his children inherited something from him – an heirloom. Marcus had yet to inherit his, for he would bear the mace. Titus would go on to inherit Cloudbreaker. To Pontia, he would give only a ring once worn by his mother. To Livia, he offered the same feathered-quill he would use often in his youth. And to Martinus, he would give him a small signet ring of a bull, the only of its kind, the design so vast and complicated that it was unique beyond doubt unless one had studied it. Never before would it be seen, yet only in the hand of Martinus. At the time, Martinus was only but a child, and so wore the signet ring as a necklace.

ᴍᴀʀᴄᴜꜱ, the eldest of his children, came to burden the great inheritance of the world. Hadrian knew that his first-born would have to follow the steps of his own father, and walk the martial path to ensure the Emperor would always be a strong ruler. Marcus spent most of his youth learning the administrative roles and duties of the Imperator from Hadrian, and then another bulk training the sword from the best knights in the realm. Hadrian only held guilt for having to pass on such a burdensome role onto his son, for he himself did not wish to inherit the Empire in the first place, but understood its importance.

ᴛɪᴛᴜꜱ, the second son, was given much more freedom. Hadrian envied his children for their freedom, barring that of Marcus. The young Crown Prince longed for his son, Titus, to take on a similar interest as himself – arts, poetry, theatre and administration. Unfortunately, ***us lacked the equipoise in admin-and-sword, and seemed much more suited to the blade. Hadrian spent most of his years tending to his second son; it was spoken frequently within the courts that Titus was his most favoured son, albeit, it was hardly shown in his cruel actions. Hadrian did see Titus as his most favored, and attempted to prevent him from walking down the knight’s path in the years to follow.

ᴘᴏɴᴛɪᴀ, his daughter, was sheltered by the gown of her mother. Hadrian saw Pontia to be a perfect vision of his wife, and knew she did not require much guidance to grow up to be kind and loved.

It was then that the twins came into discussion, that of ʟɪᴠɪᴀ and ᴍᴀʀᴛɪɴᴜꜱ.

ʟɪᴠɪᴀ seemed to mirror Hadrian almost perfectly, and some would go far as to say she was even more flawless. She was lithe-of-frame, soft handed, but sharp-tongued and brilliant minded. The Crown Prince saw her the same as a genius, she held a dangerous curvature in the early imperial courts even at her young age, and there was something ruthless about her. Martinus, however? Livia overshadowed him.

Hadrian spent his time with Livia the most, and held little interaction with the other twin. Yes, it was so–whereas Titus may have been his favorite son, Livia would be his favored child. Yet Hadrian feared himself, and as sickness overtook him, and the stress of the Imperator undercut his body, madness started to seep through – he did not wish for his daughter to be like him, he wanted to encapsulate her kindness. In the near future, her banishment would come to surprise many. They did not know, however, that in his mind, Hadrian still saw Livia as his most loved child.

Where was ᴍᴀʀᴛɪɴᴜꜱ during this time? He spent most of his years with his brothers and younger sister, alongside that of Livia and their mother – but each time, Hadrian would pick up Livia into a warm embrace and carry her off, hoping to spend time with her. She held Hadrian’s favor, and with the waning passage of time, Martinus found himself isolated; his attention turned to his brothers, yet Martinus was too young to understand, nor old enough to remember what it meant to be lonely.

ʜᴀᴅʀɪᴀɴ ᴘʀᴏᴠᴇᴅ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ꜰᴀᴠᴏᴜʀɪᴛᴇꜱ ᴇxɪꜱᴛᴇᴅ.

ᴀꜱ ᴛʜᴇ ᴄᴀʀʀɪᴀɢᴇ ꜱᴛʀᴜᴛ ᴀᴄʀᴏꜱꜱ ᴛʜᴇ ᴄʀᴏᴏᴋᴇᴅ ʙʀɪᴅɢᴇ, the Crown Prince Hadrian sat within the confines of a plush pillow, holding a bejewelled anthology of poems gifted to him by his late mother. The stallions woughed in frustration as they tugged the cart forth. A splintering crevice of water gushed through the worn-stumps of the bridge, as the fast-flowing river gushed deep below.

The banner of the House of Horen swayed within the air, and a retinue of imperial dragon knights rode on each corner to ensure the protection of the Emperor-to-be. Within the carriage sat two of his children, Livia, and that of Martinus.

Livia peered around innocently in her youth, as her head lay upon the lap of the crown prince.

“Hm” Hadrian flipped the page of his book; he did not prevent his daughter’s rest upon his lap, but showed little affection otherwise.

Martinus peaked out from the carriage, peering down cautiously at the river. The fishes blubbered and leapt outwards. As much the same as his twin-sister, he could not understand the purpose of the trip; after all, he was only two, and could barely see past the rim of the carriage.

The young princess leapt up from her father’s lap and waddled out to the corner of the carriage, viewing past the shoulder of Martinus.

Martinus turned his head mindlessly, and the two started to giggle away.

The wheels of the carriage struck one of the divots within the bridge, causing all those within to jolt. Hadrian included, and his features twisted with venom, clearly frustrated despite it being the fault of nobody. A knight trot forth, and offered hasteful words. “It would be best for us to move with haste, Your Imperial Highness. This bridge was an unwise path,” he spoke through the visor.

“If the bridge collapses, the coachman will be executed,” Hadrian concluded simply, and held on firmly to the side of the wood.

As the carriage jolted alive, Livia fell backwards, and her head nearly slipped upon the wooden-surface. Hadrian’s hand swept downright, and he yanked both of his children up onto his lap, ensuring they did not fall – even a small injury could lead to an early death for such young children.

Martinus simply saw the bumpy trip of the carriage to be another game in his mind, if he could even rationalise thought. He simply laughed, and knew little else.

Hadrian ’s eyes drifted between the pair, but his annoyance overcame any sort of joy he held for the moment. Soon enough, the carriage reeled to the end of the bridge, however, even the Crown Prince could tell something was off.

The bridge shook violently, it quaked for far too long. Horses neighed furiously, and the imperial dragon knights continued forth towards the carriage. “Your Imperial Highness, the bridge is likely to collapse. Climb onto our horse,” Sir Sirius’s gauntlet held outwards.

“. . .” Hadrian swung the side-door of the carriage open, and accepted the gauntleted hand, clambering onto the grand-knight’s steed. As the horse bellowed furiously, the bridge started to shudder; all could tell it would collapse.

“Your Imperial Highness, it is about to break!” The imperial dragon knight roared–the other retinue surged forth, rushing to the end, and the heavy carriage continued to pull.

The Crown Prince leant forth, and immediately grasped somebody from the carriage … – for between his two children, be it Livia, or Martinus, he chose to rescue Livia first.

With a small yank, the princess was pulled forth, and settled hastily between the knight and Hadrian on horse-back. Her innocent eyes drifted towards the carriage, and her eyes started to break into a waterfall of tears.

Martinus waddled forth, in an attempt to go towards his father and sister. He could not understand the perplexity of the situation.

“Your Highness, we have to go,” The imperial dragon knight snapped the reins of the horse, and it surged forth.

Martinus watched as the horse rushed away from the carriage, and decided to simply sit back down upon the wooden carriage, slapping the surface of the floor. The young prince cried; not out of fear of the bridge, but for being left alone without his father and his sister.

Hadrian’s eyes broadened violently as he watched the dragon-knight force the horse onwards. There was an audible protest, “My son is still in the carri–”

BOOM–the supports of the bridge tore violently, and as the horse drifted across the dirt-bank at the end, the wooden stabs of the bridge started to collapse. Plank after plank, from north to south, it broke; with it, the carriage fell, and the river gulfed it akin to a gaping maw. Martinus was claimed by the same rivers, drifting away to the unknown.

Hadrian violently yanked his daughter closer, and collapsed his arms around her in a warm embrace. The Crown Prince stood in silence; if his eyes were ever teeming with life, they started to fade.

There was something about this that was uncanny.

ᴡᴀꜱ ʜᴇ ʙᴇɪɴɢ ᴘᴜɴɪꜱʜᴇᴅ ʙʏ ᴛʜᴇ ʟᴏʀᴅ ɢᴏᴅ?

This pivotal moment marked the early offset of his madness.

ᴀɴ ᴇᴠᴇɴᴛ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ᴄʜᴀɴɢᴇᴅ ᴛʜᴇ ᴄᴏᴜʀꜱᴇ ᴏꜰ ʜᴀᴅʀɪᴀɴ’ꜱ ʟɪꜰᴇ; it was spoken that the Crown Prince grew mad, and sent his knights to search each end of the river-bank, but they could find nothing. The carriage was located far out into the shores of Balian’s riverside, close to reaching the open ocean. Martinus was not located; there were no clothes, nor the signet ring that his son had claimed.

Martinus was never spoken about again. Hadrian did not forget, he could not – he had chosen his beloved daughter over his other son, and this tore him to greater madness. He started to rationalise the causes of this great upset. He convinced himself that the choice he made in picking Livia was right, for she was his favored child, and that he could – in truth – bear another son akin to Martinus, but not another daughter the same as Livia.

He knew his train of thought was wrong, it was cruel, but there was no other way that the mad Emperor could live with this.Even as he toiled upon his throne, bored by the whispers of his court, Hadrian recalled the moment vividly.

Even as his blade spurned through the throats of elves, Hadrian remembered his son drifting away into the endless abyss.

Even as he climbed the battlements of the Urguani fortress, Hadrian’s eyes bloodied with the river of his son’s demise.

By this maddened march he could truly claim the might of his Empire, and through the blood of many could the sins and lamentations of his life be washed away, so that he could enter his personal hell to come with a semblance of completeness.

Amidst that march, amidst that frenzy of strategy and conquest, that pain which had gripped him could at times dampen, replaced by the glory of each act. Living proof of greatness it was that the world bent to its knees even for himself, just as it had for those that came before.

He did not escape grief, but it was a moment of triumph where that was upended. Onward Hadrian marched, victorious within those dwarven lands, whence a flash of an unthinkable face among the endless hordes of those Men about caught the corner of his eye.

His head swiveled. A mere peasant on the road - not even a soldier of his host. Soon he vanished into the crowd.

Knights enwreathed in black soon abandoned their posts, and dragons stalked that endless crowd that is called Man. Martinus was not found, and even the trusted of Hadrian began to further doubt his sanity. But, for Hadrian that search could not cease, so convinced of the thing he had held before his eyes.

Thus a prerogative was added to the fleeting race in its quest to subjugate the world. That lost son of Horen must be found at all costs. This was the one mistake Hadrian must see right.

The words of your surrender have spurned deep into the chambers of my imperial courtiers, it has spread akin to crashing waves – when I received the letter, it seemed almost foolish. I did not think that Peter would offer his surrender; I have decided to waste my time in returning a response. It lies below.

As the master of Man, I must acknowledge that all men should rise and fall within the confines of the Empire, including yourselves. Although you have lowered yourself to the same prospects of the urukim, I still offer you this simple term. If you shall agree, respond swiftly, or no further option will be left outside of an eternal hunt for each house and name listed within your charter. You should know that I have already compiled said list of houses within your renege institution, so do not take this threat as a falsity. Comply to the following:

☩ The Belethian Federation will be dissolved and will never rise again. A publication will state their full surrender to the Empire of Man and acknowledge their crimes against humanity. This publication must be written by the backstabber known formally as Peter Rovare. This publication must be made for all to see.

☩ All houses of the Belethian Federation will submit a public apology to humanity for their crimes. They must acknowledge the dissolution of any title or nobility and return to the Empire as common-men. Any houses attempting to defect to the High Kingdom of Idunia to escape consequence, after warning caution to them, will be executed. The Patriarch or Matriarch of said houses must submit this apology.

☩ Peter ‘the Backstabber’ Rovare will submit himself to the Imperial Crownlands for execution. He is not to be killed until apprehended and publicly made an example of by the Imperial Order of the Red Dragon. Any who attempt to safeguard Peter Rovare will be executed alongside him.

It is an unfortunate reality that is the penchant of Man and it often manifests in arterials of hubris and egoism–an ironic statement, for I hold myself in high regard.

Whilst Man is at the precipice of continental domination, you have proven once again to be deluded in your judgement. It is the role of the Vicar to guide the flock of our most holy Lord GOD, yet time and time again, you have turned blindly to the ill-begotten shepherds that marr your pious institution.

The role of Vicar and the role of Emperor should be of a mutual balance – you deal with the priests, and I deal with humanity as a whole. Whereas I strive to make Man see their potential on the living world, it is your goal to ensure their lives are bereft of the influence of Iblees, and to save their souls into the Seven Skies. You have failed in your duty.

At one pivotal moment in history, your church held the key to this harmonious mandate – the ability to will Man. My father sacrificed his childhood and his land, allowing it to be governed by your shepherds because he found himself entrusting those closest to virtue. When victory came, the bareness of the Church lay outwards, you pulled away the barbery of your sceptres and the vestments of your liturgy to prove you had no intentions to see humanity unified.

If you thought it was easy to push around my father, who himself is a great man of respect, you must have lost your mind if you believed I would kneel to the raucous antics of a half-man.

I thought I made the instruction to His Holiness abundantly clear:

Garner a faith that proliferates virtue and righteousness.
Avoid consequences of my loyal vassals in times of war.
Ensure unity, as was our original mission.

Your disdain for Sigismund gained you nothing; continuously, your shepherds found themselves prodding the side of my men, and thus myself. I offered communication, and you responded only with your belittled self-esteem.

Owynists were persecuted for hundreds of years, but why is the path of revenge to mirror this persecution? We lived by the True Flame and were granted mercy by our Canonist forebearers, who privy us to the rights of priesthood and marriage, but you would deny it for those who attempt to live peacefully beneath my banner. They bleed for humanity more than your faithful shepherds, and they fight for Man. Yet your extent lay not just beyond the grasp of the Jorenic, but you then started to hurl at my other vassals of the finer faith.

As you continue to cause issues for myself, you then weep the cry of succor and hope that this insights some great conflict of civil-war; for what effort? To regain a mutile of influence? You have overestimated your image and relations with others.

I do not think any of my vassals will stand on your side.

I do not think my friends in Idunia will either.

That is not by my word or law, but their own accord. They can speak rightly on this themselves, or refute this.

I admit to beating your priests–they deserved it, you know they did, but your ego does not allow you to agree because ‘you want to be the ones to punish them’ as some little show of force.

Father Anselm? Yes, he was killed under my orders. In truth, I did not kill him for any pious reason barring disunity. I was also not fond of the tongue he used against Argelion and his son, including the way he spat out towards them and insulted their tribes. He acted bereft of the grace of GOD, spitting out towards good men and women who aim to assist us in furthering our goals in mutual existence as friends and comrades.

When first we came to the dwarven lands, your walls and gates could not save you; at every turn of the winding paths of Kal’Baraz, one could find the corpses of dwed and ork kind littered, so many of whom had attempted to flee upon sighting the bold Imperial charge. In our second engagement, the outcome was less plain. The plentiful additions to your defences made it more difficult for our forces to penetrate your gates, and I bore witness to the fabled dwarven engineering, with traps of redstone intended to catch our soldiers unawares in their bouts of boredom.

They did not work, in fact I believe they worked against you, but I commend the effort nonetheless. It did not change the fact though, that even with such battlements, so many of your men had perished. Our host returned to Rittersburg with far more gained than what had been lost, our greatest expense being time. And it does not change the fact that our siege engines will render all this effort futile, as it will for the orkish capital too. The walls you find such faith in shall fall, and you with them. This is destined.

But until that day, you may find contention with such a notion. You may think it mere conjecture, grounded in the brazen hubris so very typical of mankind, bar your Belethian Paramount of the Blood of course. The sons of Krug and Urguan could never and will never be defeated by humanity, standing ever defiant against Imperialist expansion. One may look at the histories and think they substantiate this, surely it must bear credence.

Hear me plainly:

I invite your forces to meet with us in the open field, with no tunnels to disappear into and no ramparts to lean upon. Let all bear witness to whether you are more than just the fortresses you hide behind. We shall bring no more in number than you - one may even posit our own side being outnumbered. Benches groaned under crowded knights and soldiers, tankards brimming and clashing in raucous rhythm, the air thick with rowdy song - some tuneful, most slurred - and the tang of spilled ale. Armor piled against walls like shed skins, the groomsmen donned their wedding finery amid gales of laughter. At the heart, The Crown Prince Marcus Tiberias reigned atop a table, bottle raised high, his jeers and cheers shattering the night. Hours of revelry heralded the true feast: a dwarven rally at dawn. The merry host spurred out still singing, half-drunk, wholly eager, to greet their "foes" - one hundred Imperials matched by a dwarven line of equal steel. Elated, these men were able to find a dancing partner. And so they did, lining up opposite each other before at last, the Bachelor’s Party was underway.

At first, one might have thought the alcohol to have taken its toll on the Imperials. A few soldiers had tripped over their feet, some driven off their horses by heavy heads. Prince Johannes led and corralled the fighting force alongside his nephew, the aforementioned and celebrated Crown Prince, returning the men to their senses as they picked up their weapons and regrouped in the forest to hold their ground. The dwed cavalry had attempted to catch the enemy young heir of Blackvale unawares, riding him down as he marched back to the forest. Prince Willem van Aert was not one to yield so readily; as the galloping hooves drew closer, the Lodenlander planted his feet firmly into the ground. He weaved a lance, then another, his pike bringing down the third cavalryman. The merry host lay down arrow fire, covering the van Aert as he at last rejoined them. They held by those trees of gold leaves, as both forces prepared for the final engagement.

Down the path, the dwed host approached in formation, clattering their swords against the shields as they marched with haste. Not long after, the skirmish began, a test of dwarven steel against the Imperial counterpart. Misha, the leal elf, was first into the fray, charging headfirst into the enemy lines. He found himself at odds with three dwed at once, yet their swords faltered at the sight of his fury. The dwarves pressed their advantage, bringing more and more against this lone elf, almost bringing down the rampaging menace, until the Prince of Blackvale broke through. Just as Misha before him, Martius van Aert brought his axe down upon the skulls of their shorter foe, sending them scurrying one by one. Just behind, the Turtle Knight, Sir Frederick Euler, rained down a hail of arrows; combined with his javelin, the strong arm of the Adrian made porcupines of the dwarvish infantry.

The enemy cavalry took a detour up the mountainside, admiring the horizon before joining the fight. They were first met by the Grand Knight’s squire, Corswain, who lanced the mountain-detoured cavalry, then harried footmen; Prince Johannes swept through with his shortsword, piercing the brittle dwarves plate as their blood lay splattered across the winding cobble path. Their numbers dwindled, and their resolve had shattered. The Crown Prince and Sir Ghetsis Mareno were the final nail in the coffin. The Myrnish knight cut down the entire regiment of Irehearts with his longsword, an unrelenting and unforgiving menace to any foe that had dared cross him. Five charged him at once; none would live to tell the tale. Prince Marcus dismounted what cavalry remained, rendering them dazed and confused as they attempted to retreat. He ran them down, as he did the infantrymen that remained.

The party was over.

Often it is spoken, by much of your own word, that the cycle of an Empire is broken by the hands of dwarven might. Perhaps, in truth, this is a curse that befalls men; it ensures a neutrality in the winds of the world, a fair balance amongst the populace.

Yet today, I can speak it confidently: the curse is broken. The cycle is doomed not to repeat. It is quite unfortunate that we had once grown as token friends; to the king who gifted me an armour of his own crafting, and in return, we spoke fondly. Though, you made a silly and rapacious judgement melded by the hands of ignorant advisors.

Dwarven hubris can only go a long way, you see. I made it fair for you, did I not? I even invited you with a time and location for my raid, but still, you did not attend. You fell to our imperial strength, and let me burn the fields of Cerulia as it stood without their king; is a lord not to protect their vassal?

Instead, you hid behind gates in your capital-throne – it did not even take much to hold your line, combined of both urukim and dwarves. For the most part, the knights of Idunia, the samurai of Kurai-Kuni, and a small fleeting number of imperial knights comprised by the stalwart leader of Sir Arn Honeywine & Calias II – the man you seek dead – had ensured your people could not even leave past the gates. Vander and Sir Frederick Euler held the line and order throughout all of this.

With each movement, you flinched.

With each word, you bawled.

And when we tore through your gates and spread your blood across the floorboards, all you could do was cry heartlessly at the screams of your dead. And what now? Write your posts, ‘oh, how could you fight alongside Hadrian the Mad! He shall kill all! He is evil!’ or ‘The Empire is evil! Vassals of the Empire, raise your arms in uprising!’.

Hear this: men have been united, they are stronger, and soon, this continent shall stand together as one.

I only offer this one branch of peace to the dwarves: send me a letter, and we may discuss surrender. I will be fair and honest, for it was not us who aggressed upon you, but it was you who aggressed upon us. If not, we shall ensure your end alongside the urukim; there will be no protectorate, all will be razed. Consider your options well.

The bravery of our men shall not end here: you shall see steel from the Idunian knights, you shall hear the roars of the Kurai-Kui samurais, and the axes of Norland shall bludgeon your scalps. The elves of Caurost will be swift, and each throat will be cut, laid bloody.

War is not yet over.

. . . that His Imperial Majesty has thus decreed, in accordance to the steadfast loyalty of the Qalasheen peoples in service to the Crown and the Order of the Red Dragon, that the peoples of the faith of Imam al-Rashidun shall be afforded certain legal dispensations as detailed in the document herein.

This historic decision comes after much prayer and consideration from the Emperor of Man, and shall serve as general and generic secular prescriptions. The faith of the Qalasheen is now under official recognition from the Imperial Crown; discriminatory actions against the Qalasheen peoples shall be met with force, as they are to be henceforth considered under Imperial protection. The same force will apply to any citizen of the Empire, be they a common-man or a noble.

✷ FIRSTLY, practitioners of Imam al-Rashidun shall be permitted to practice their faith in public spaces without fear of discrimination, without interrupting sacred ceremonies or sacraments being performed by the Mother Church.

✷ SECONDLY, practitioners of Imam al-Rashidun shall be permitted to sell cultural artifacts or cultural paraphernalia in public markets.

✷ THIRDLY, shrines or places or worship shall only be permitted to be raised on Qalasheen property and territory, but prayers may be performed publicly barring Churches. Prayer is allowed in Imperial Institutions (i.e. the Palace, the Rathaus, etc.) with express approval from the Emperor. A singular Masjid will be allowed within the city, but this must be a property already conformed by the Qalasheen, purchased and taxed appropriately.

✷ FOURTHLY, conversion for those baptized in the True Faith, the Imperial Peerage or the Imperial Family is strictly forbidden. Those sworn to vassal oaths to His Majesty found converting shall incur execution as per the rules on oathbreak and treason.

✷ FIFTHLY, one male member of age of each recognized house of the Imam al-Rashidun faith must serve either the Imperial Guard or civilian Imperial Institutions for these rights to remain in effect.

✷ SIXTHLY, those of the Imam al-Rashidun are permitted to marry any citizen of the Empire (barring non-humans), but they are under no obligation to take up the faith. Those of the Imam al-Rashidun cannot marry into sworn peerage without express permission from the Emperor. If permitted, those of sworn peerage are still forbidden from conversion to the faith.

IN ADDITION, the body of the Imam al-Rashidun and the Qalasheen peoples (that is, the group and not specific individuals) must not defect from the Imperial Crownlands or plot treason against the Crown, at risk of these rights being revoked.

However, misdeeds of the individual may reflect upon the entire group, and the Qalasheen peoples are highly recommended to deal with internal matters swiftly, and hope to remain out of the Crown’s intervention.

In my youth, it was my hope to walk down a warrior’s path – much like my father, Tiberias, who had conquered the world with a ruthless fist, I aspired to raise my sword in heroics. Unfortunately, GOD laid before me a solitary path: to work in the offices, to conduct administration, and to be inept at the blade.

Yet as my brothers could protect themselves, I grew fond of the knights; they were my shields, and would eventually become my own. I treated them as my own kin; if any issue was brought to me, I would stand to protect them. Whereas some of my peerage lounge fruitlessly in their castles, I took counsel from those who partitioned their life to serve me everyday.

Sir Redgar and Sir Khaleed were no exception. I recall Redgar being a simple, humble man, even through his amorous affairs with the demon-ilk; he seemed loyal to a fault. As he was captured by the urukim, I had my Empire sally out in full to aid in his rescue. The price of this? To desert.

Khaleed joined alongside those other brothers of the Imam al-Rashidun – faced by hefty discrimination and scrutiny from others, their loyalty proved unmatched. It was only as of recently that I had – and still plan on after this missive – to send out a new edict officializing the freedom of their faith, and the protection of their tribes after long discussions with their people. The price of this? To desert.

Men who were raised from no status, brought under my banners, raised to greatness, provided every honor and gesture of kindness – your response, to turn your back on me. You could have asked for anything–I spoke to you as my own people, and if you had woes to speak, it could have been made clear and evident.

Hear this well. I will hunt you down ruthlessly. I will claim every prize that was offered, and every single moment of joy that brought you grace. It is my earnest request that you hide amongst the urukim, for if I find anyone harboring you, I shall show no mercy.

However, if you come before me, speak your apologies, and explain the reasons for your departure, I will grant you mercy. If you fear that your attendance will lead to death, know that your death is inevitable should you fail to arrive. This is your opportunity to live. IMPERIAL DECREE | A Discussion on Society - Our Women

Deftly spoken in the Rosemoor Convention, the rights and privileges of women have been ill-discussed during the disfractured contention of humanity’s realms. With kingdoms that spawned their own earnest belief on male primogeniture, electoral suffrage and infringement of the courts to upstow etiquette and lady-like mannerisms.

I have often taken to history; my father believed that women would find themselves hindered in roles of societal leadership. His opinions were not brought by a lack of poise or a crude desire for an imbalance in societal roles, but, in truth, from the general disposition earned by women who led during their reign – and they let down their fellow ladies.

Yet as much as I found myself of the same opinion, the Empire of Man has proven otherwise; when both men and women are granted equal opportunity, they can, and sometimes with more success than the other, prove themselves to be useful assets to the Imperium. Some even find themselves at the heart of the Imperium, serving important roles as my mouth and ears in my privy council.

Let it be so then; all ladies of the Empire are invited to the imperial palace in the capital city of Rittersberg to discuss on equal footing, and to engage in an educative debate regarding women inheritance, their rights and payments in the courts, their freedom in the institutions, and the bludgeoning cultural differences of ladies in court in comparison to those of men.

I understand that this discussion may spawn a fiery vigour and passion, but please attempt to be constructive – though, in truth, I also enjoy heated arguments. For both noble-lady and commoner, this court will host you as an equal, and your voice will be heard all the same.

Though for as much as I advocate for this, a lack of recourse in courtly etiquette will find a woman’s head spindled by a rope, cast high and hung from my poles to sway the winds as a flag – with equal rights, comes the equal threat of death.

At the conclusion of the debate, a new bill will be voted to pass. It will be written alongside the Archchancellor depending on the course of discussion.

ON MINE ACCESS & THE LONELY MOUNTAIN ACT

. . . as per the agreements between our land, all mine access shall be removed from the dwarves of Urguan – the mutual access of our mines will not be shared. It has been noted that 16 dwarves were added to the mines connecting the Crownlands, Idunia, Norland, Iryalen and Caurost. Their keys have since been revoked.

As it was signed by the name of my father, and the signatories mentioned, the patent The Lonely Mountain Act shall hereby be annulled for the following reasons:

Barring those of Kurai-Kuni, all signatories now fall under the Empire of Man, and so their powers and legislature changes within our imperial system.
The signature written upon the treatise is by the name of my father, and does not translate unto the new Emperor.
The identity of the Cerulian goes against article two, term three: on the banishment and forbiddance of the Celia’noreans. Gathered witnesses have stated many citizens identify as: Lurinites, Celia’noreans, and Haelun’orian.

The following signatories are no longer required to abide by the Lonely Mountain Act, as by the will of their Emperor:

The Imperial Crownlands
The High Kingdom of Idunia
The High Kingdom of Norland
The Holy Protectorate of Malin (Caurost)
The Imperial Province of Iryalen

Those of Kurai-Kuni are fine to continue upholding this treaty should they wish. The Horde will not exist in a few years to come.

Our defensive alliance with the Grand Kingdom of Urguan and the master dwarves remains in effect, for the peace and friendship between our kingdoms.

An ambassador may be sent to discuss the re-establishment of the Lonely Mountain Act and mine-access. You are not required to do this.
