What it is

Blood magic is an occult sorcery which relies on genus, an esoteric energy that lies within blood, innate to greater souls or beings of the supernatural which goes unnoticed by the typical descendant. Alongside the use of archaic runes, blood mages may conduct rituals with various purposes, from simple ensorcellments of items to conjuring devastating calamities.

As genus is fleeting and only present within the fresh blood of soul-having creatures, it loses its potency quickly and as such the blood of the living nourishes a ritual better.

Awakening & the toll on the body

Blood magic is learned through awakening, which is achieved by touching a blood shard, an ancient relic containing information and the soul of a silit Archon. This experience heightens the individual's awareness of their bodily functions, allowing them to sense and manipulate the genus within blood. Once awakened they can begin their studies under the guidance of a teacher.

Awakening brings noticeable physical and mental changes. Due to frequent bloodletting mages suffer acute stress on the heart and veins which ultimately reduces their life expectancy to 2 IRL years max and can only be avoided by achieving immortality or giving up the dark art. Similarly blood mages are more susceptible to thanhic poisoning and azhl anemia, while bloodborne diseases cling tightly to them and require twice as strong remedies.

Rituals

Rituals require units of genus in order to succeed, and the more blood mages with higher tiers that participate, the higher the chance for a successful rite. Different creatures may hold more units of genus within their blood than the average mortal. Should the ritual fail, depending on the type, the mages must either self-RP the consequences or inform the ST actor overseeing it.

- Genus is held in the blood of soul-having creatures (sentient life), and not animals. Blood loses its genus within 3 OOC hours.

- Awakening to blood magic can only be done to individuals with genus-having blood. As such entities that cannot use blood magic are animals, golems, animii, atronachs, sorvians, liches, darkstalkers, ghosts, gravens, wights, eidola and striga.

- Frost witches, epiphytes, tree lords and corcituri ignore the physical effects of blood magic.

- Due to the toll blood magic takes on one’s mind and body, their lifespan is capped at 2 IRL years max after awakening and can only be avoided if the mage achieves immortality or gives up blood magic entirely.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

Depending on the nature of a ritual, a blood mage may call upon the power of runes to enchant objects, conjure creatures or various other effects.

Elemental rituals are the base of blood magic rites. An object or being may be enchanted with the literal and conceptual meaning of an elemental rune, which may in turn have a mechanical or aesthetic effect. As such, the elemental runes (fire, water, air, earth, metal, lighting, dark, light) will bring different results depending on the ritual. Whilst ensorcellment of flesh imbues the individual with traits associated to the rune chosen, an object will manifest the element in question - a water ensorcellment may make a person capricious or prone to confusion, whilst an object may be combined with another to transform at the wielder’s will through blood activation.

Summoning rituals entail the conjuring of an entity or object to the ritual site or even opening a rift through which the mages may pass into other dimensions. Summoning rituals are among the most dangerous rites and may have hazardous outcomes even when successful.

Creation rituals include Invent, a ritual which produces an object or creature of the mages' design (created through an MArt) and may be influenced by other magics. Quiet is another Creation ritual through which a blood mage may muffle the sound or outright silence all noise within an area.

Force rituals span a wide variety due to their different intentions and varied runes. A weapon enchanted with gilding will amplify the carnage and gore of combat, drawing an unnatural amount of blood. Call Calamity invokes devastating cataclysms upon structures or landscapes. Spiritspell will sustain a spell and turn it constant. Engorge will temporarily rid the blood mage of their magics in exchange for their original physical strength. Seal is a more advanced version of scabbing through which heavy injuries of the wounded may be mended.

Bloodbending is the art of manipulating blood itself. Augmentation strips a unit of genus to boost the power of a mage up to tier 5. Hemorrhaging is primarily used for intimidation and inflicts inconsequential bleeding on nearby individuals. Scabbing is used for sealing small cuts or cleaning up bloodstains. Siphoning is a transfusion of blood often used to stabilise a wounded ally. Tearing, the peak of bloodbending, is used to execute already heavily wounded victims wherein the caster has complete control over their body and the goriness of the execution is up to the blood mage.

- Tearing requires OOC consent from the victim and does not necessitate a PK.

"Cease your grousing, child." Solyi hisses to the elfess idly standing at her side, and gestures to a sword splayed amidst the crimson-stained troughs. "The ritual has been successful; you've got the blade you wished for. What more could you want?"

Alrani plods over to the ritual circle to retrieve the weapon and moves aside, looming over her mother's shoulder as she grumbles to herself.

Solyi's gnarled hand splays open atop the canals and her fingers sweep along the esoteric markings previously illustrated in her blood. With her touch, the various runes inked before the duo begin to fritter away.

[!] The bloodied circle gradually dissipates, rent into a sputter of scarlet mist - the once gory display now erased without a trace. "Come, we've wasted enough time here." the goblin duly speaks, urging Alrani to follow in tow.

Solyi trails about the ritual site, dimly lit by naught but a candle's flame. Hands tucked into her peignoir and gaze affixed onto her daughter, "Alrani." she beckons, "What of your studies, child? The runic lexicon - have you fully familiarised yourself with it?"

Alrani wordlessly agrees, crouched beside the circle carved within the floorboards.

"Then I'm in need of your aid." the goblin saunters over and lowers herself before the crimson-stained ring as well. She draws a clawed fingernail along her open palm, promptly giving way to an ooze of blood from the slit. "For another ritual, that is."

Alrani shifts aside for a better gander at her mother. "Another? Which one is it?" she queries with an aloft brow.

"Da, child. The Quiet rite…" Solyi smears the blackened parquet with a trickle of her blood, painting the flooring in various symbols. "The circle will be empowered with a rune of silence, mortality, power and binding in conjunction, should you wish to rid the room of sound." she elaborates on as she inks the aforementioned runes within the bounds of the ritual circle.

“You recognise them, do you not?” she gestures to the symbols splotched at the centre of the bloodied troughs. “Next time I will have you illustrate them.”

Alrani dutifully complies, albeit a tad hesitant at the thought. “Da, I recognise them.”

"The Quiet ritual," she pauses to exert a sigh as her runic depicting comes to an end; "you may use if you wish to muffle all noise within the area, or outright extinguish it all - depending on the amount of power runes used."

"Lastly, the silence..." the goblin rises to her feet and wipes her bloodied palm on her thin vestments. "To maintain, it requires a rune of life."

"Placed alongside the others?" the elfess quips whilst she offers a mere nod, assessing the information given.

"Not necessarily, my dear Rani. You may place it anywhere within the area, as long as it is not completely concealed." Solyi thus concludes her explanation and her lips twist to the likeness of a rare smile. "Go fetch your sister, we require three mages for this one."

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

I will explain both OOCly and ICly so such situations can be avoided. Should powergaming still occur whether under or outside my supervision, I will guide them and do my best to point out their mistakes and correct any problematic behaviour. If they prove to be disagreeable and continue to intentionally powergame, I will have to cut our studies short and allow staff to step in for further punishment if needed.

For the sake of her family's well-being, Augustina kept a brave face, yet the news of her beloved friend's passing had struck her like no other. The late Baroness had been the very reason Augustina had a family of her own, and it was Ileana that stuck by the painter's side when she had no one else to turn to.

She peered at her son, her beautiful Leo, soundly sleeping on the couch. She turned to Fabian thereafter, and upon meeting his gaze, Augustina quietly wept.

After stumbling upon the missive during her travels, a masked goblin would heave a loud, exasperated sigh. "...Mi can nub leave lat alone for one zkahin' zecond." grumbled the epiphyte whilst ripping off the poster, before stomping off into the distance.

Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature:

Every once in a blue moon, a fae seed or spore slips through a fae ring, entering the mortal realm; said fae plant draws people in by "calling out" to them.
Descendants who are lured to the fae plant fall asleep next to it, their body being engulfed in a cocoon. Inside, their anatomy is reconstructed into plant matter, which means the Epiphyte is more susceptible to cuts, bruising and slashes. Once they awake, the descendant's appearance remains nearly identical, besides resembling their fae plant in one way or another.
Epiphytes bear a very strong connection with their fae plant, so strong that one's state will affect the other. If one feels pain, so does the other. This bond is so tight that an Epiphyte can communicate with their fae plant much like a druid can communicate with plants. Their fae plant is of utmost priority, and so an Epiphyte protects it and nurtures it like their own child, at times meaning they would even risk their own lives for the safety of their plant.
An epiphyte goes through many cycles of rebirth, spanning from 25 to 100 years, up until the end of their lifespan. Towards the end of a cycle, they begin to wither, and upon passing away, an infant Epiphyte emerges from the corpse. Throughout every rebirth, shifts in personality or appearance can occur, though whether the amount of changes is slight or severe is up to the player.

Redlines
- Epiphytes cannot have offspring, the only "children" they can have are their fae plant.
- A new fae seed may be created once every map change, or if their fae plant dies.
- Epiphytes cannot learn void magic.
- They react poorly to blight; they are driven mad by it and will attack on sight.
- Their fae plant cannot inform the Epiphyte of their death.
- All curses carry over upon transformation and rebirth.

If this construct or creature has some form of aesthetic choice, can you describe how they look? 

Epiphytes resemble the fae plant that transformed them. Whether it be hair with similar texture or colour to leaves, or a slight shift in skin colour, or even flowers growing out of one's limbs, the appearance of the Epiphyte is entirely up to the player.
