Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature:

The Ghoul is a necrotic undead raised by a necromancer, and functions very simply in comparison to the other undead wrought by necromancers. 

Ghouls are foetid and shambling creatures, locked into perpetual existence as a skeletal and decayed form. They exude a foul and noisome odor, their curse manifesting in bizarre and loathsome manners, always belying their true nature however they might attempt to conceal it. Ghouls are possessed of many of the weaknesses known of undead, such as aurum, a weak skull, and flame. They are limited to the strength of a human.

Ghouls lack the ability to learn magics of any variety, including feats. They are merely undead, not afforded any special abilities by their malefic creators. 

Beyond the physical form of a rotted away corpse, the mind is also twisted upon reanimation as a Ghoul. 

The mental state of a Ghoul is a pitiful one, while they do not lack their basest emotions, they are overcome with the nature of their necromantic existence. They are susceptible to becoming deranged, and lack the same humanity and morality of their living years. Should their patron necromancer be dead for over 1 OOC week, they may break free of their chains to them. 

A Ghoul is created by a Tier [4] necromancer, who upon using the Rite of Summoning gives unlife to the corpse. 

Should a Ghoul be slain, they will remain screaming in the necromancer's mind until they are given flesh and bone once more. This is done via the Rite of Return, which breathes the Ghoul into a new body. However, the Ghoul must remove all items upon death, and the Ghoul must spend at least 30 minutes dead unless an Archlich is the one to bring them back.

In conclusion, the Ghoul is a wretched being. They are simple, wallowing, and weak creatures brought to a facsimile of life by dark magics.

Jonah is a skeletal figure, dressed in rags from his last days of humanity. He isn't too distinct from the archetypical Ghoul.

Shadows crept along the grimy, foot-torn paving as that elf-thing wept in the corner of an alley. Silence took hold of the night for a brief moment. Then, the nauseating sound of tendons separating, of sinew being stretched to its limit, ripped and tugged at every which way at full force, however weak that force was. 

Blood caked his hands, but he saw it not. For he saw nothing now. Nothing, save them. The figures of rapacious neophytes draped in red and grey still haunted and tormented his vision. Still berating him, still kicking and biting and scraping and hurting him. 

The elf-thing set his eyes to his side, he didn't need them anymore. Bloody tears streamed down his face from his sockets. He fell back onto to the cobblestones and sat there, lying supine in quiet agony. The feeling of the warm, life-bearing fluid across his hands and face, paired with the tears and dirt from the last several weeks, it was unbearable. Hands clasped, and empty prayer fell on deaf ears. Just as before, God would not hear him. 

The world just seemed to slip away, he fell away from his body, as if being lowered into a grave.

There was naught but darkness now. 

Then, there was It.

It fell on his chest.

It took mount of him.

It gazed into his soul.

It pulled the wool over his eyes.

And he was revived.

He quickly sat up, breathing laboriously, sweat, blood, and dirt, remained as an ever present sensation on his skin.

He looked down at his hands as if waking from a dream, then to his right and saw his eyes. He didn't need them anymore.

He felt the cut tips of his ears, brushing aside his hoary hair. He didn't need them anymore.

He thought of his past prayers and renounced them, he didn't need God anymore.

All of this pain, all of this loneliness. It was his. He didn't need anything anymore.

A Wolf's Prayer

A cool night's breeze languidly swept through the cathedral as he entered. 

The young neophyte gingerly dipped his leprous hands into the cold water of the holy basin, before retracting them and signing the Lorraine over his chest.

He walked around the empty chapel, finding a seat in the frontmost pew, sitting down on the creaking wood. The wind began to howl as it assaulted the steeple, and the bell resounded lightly, being buffeted about.

That leper bowed his head lightly, clasped his hands together and whispered lightly, no louder than the wind outside.

"Be still mein soul, let nicht zhe demons of zhis vorld hold mich down. Hilf mir on mein pazh zu salvation, und let mich be given mein vone human desire."

He paused, letting the marauding wind once more fill the cathedral with noise.

"For Ich vill surpass all in mein endeavors, for mein rivals vill fall. Let zhis ailment nicht be mein bane, und let mich use zhis opportunity zu gain zhe experience Ich need."

Once again, he signed the Lorraine before he stood.

"Heil zu jou, Red Prince of zhis vorld."

The leper left the cathedral and vanished into the night, a fire burning deep in his soul for liberty.
