What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Alchemy

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Alchemy, in simplest terms, is the art of creating potions, salves, and other concoctions of the sort. The alchemical process begins with the harvesting of reagents, done usually through mundane methods in roleplay (or mechanically, in the form of botany nodes). It continues with the extractions of Symbols from each reagent, the methods for which differ with each Sign (Signs being elements like Fire and Earth, though also with the additions of such things as Aether.) Symbols are what is used for what is called the Mixing process - what most would think of when told of 'Alchemy'. That being combining ingredients - in this case symbols, to achieve a desired effect through recipes. Alchemists of different tiers have access to different creations, usually scaling in usefulness and potency with tier. There are a total of three tiers:

    - The first, during which an alchemist is grasping the basics of the art, over the course of the first two OOC weeks of their learning. During that period, the alchemist will begin to learn to identify reagents and symbols, and the basics of the material alphabet. They can make only tier one concoctions, and even then will struggle to do so on their own.

    - The second, from the alchemist's third OOC week onward, where one would be considered a Journeyman. A tier two alchemist has access to tier two recipes, on top of the ones a tier one does. Having learned and memorised more of the reagents, processes, and the material alphabet, the alchemist is able to make potions with a lot greater ease than before, overall becoming a lot more independent from notes and teachers.

    - After eight OOC weeks total of study, an alchemist will be considered as one who has mastered the craft, having reached the third tier. At this stage, an alchemist will be able to utilise all recipes they've learned in roleplay, seeing as there are no tiers or recipes higher than three. They are able to perform most alchemical processes and tasks from memory, the material alphabet serving almost as a second language.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

There are several branches of alchemy, outside of the most common, mundane one. In most cases, they are bridges between alchemy and different magics (Liquid essense, for example, obtained through voidal magic is the only way to create for example Auric Oil). That is not always the case, though. Sometimes, instead of actual magics, it links to occult practices like infernal alchemy. I have no irp knowledge of any of the above mentioned branches, meaning my OOC knowledge is also limited.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

I will give on example of an extraction emote, and one mixing emote.

    Extraction (In this case Fire):
[Only requires one emote] Oliver Raven plucked from a small leather pouch the tusk of an Orc, setting it down onto a wood cutting board. Setting the pouch aside, he held a heavy
knife in its stead, beginning to repeatedly run over the item in a shredding item, until all that remained of it was a fine dust, spread in a layer across the board. From a shelf above, he
grabbed for a flint, striking it once against the steel - enough for a bundle of sparks to catch the powderised tusk ablaze. For a while, he watched the flames scorch the dust, until it
became ash. The ash now contained the symbols he desired, to be sorted into neat piles of their own for the potionmaking.

Mixing (In this case of a Blasting Potion):

[First emote] Oliver Raven cleared the workspace - any unnecessary powders or utensils sweeped aside so as not to disturb the process. For this one in particular, the base would be
simply enough that of water, of which he had plenty on standby. Taking the nearest bottle of that liquid, he'd empty a decent amount into a cauldron, suspended over a small flame.
He'd wait for it to reach a low boil, a state necessary for the first step. He took one of the piles, that one containing three measures of Mundane: Strength, lifting them with a sheet of
paper, sliding it into the water. To help it dissolve quicker, he used a wooden spoon, stirring the concoction in an idle manner.

[Second emote] [!] And now, setting aside the spoon, he waited. Keeping watch of the cauldron as he leaned against the wall, until he saw it boil over. Preparing for when that ended,
he readied three measures of Mundane: Rage, also on a similar piece of paper. The water went calm once more, all that was to boil over having done so. Now was the next step - the
addition of the Mundane: Rage he held. Even more carefully than the one before, he moreso assisted it to gently drop into the water on its own than pouring it into it. Now leaving it
alone - allowing the heat to dissolve the symbols, he lifted a separate paper, now holding two measures of Fire: Chaos, which he dropped into the mixture.

[Third emote] Oliver Raven took a deep breath in, and out, knowing of what is to come next. His left arm drifted towards a shield on the table, which he held up between himself and
the cauldron as his right was to perform the last step. A single measure of Mundane: Instability, contained within a small glass vial for convenience. He positioned it over the cauldron,
as he lowered his head to be covered by the shield. Bracing himself for the potential impact, he tipped the vial, retracting his arm behind the shield would he even have enough time.
[In the case of Blasting Potions in particular, the alchemist must roll out of 20 upon the completion of this step. A roll lower than 5 (1, 2, 3, 4) will result in an explosion. This would likely
cause shrapnel to fly everywhere, and may cause wounds but will never be fatal to the alchemist. For the purpose of this application, I will proceed with the emotes as if the roll
    succeeded.]

[Forth emote] Oliver Raven held himself braced, as he counted down from ten to zero. Nothing. Finally, he allowed himself a sigh of relief, as he once more set down the shield.
Standing back up to what was now a Blasting Potion, he took a previously prepared bottle, scooping the concoction inside before sealing it.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

[l will use the same example as above. The hypothetical student in this case will be called Alex.]
Oliver Raven plucked from a small leather pouch the tusk of an Orc, setting it down onto a wood cutting board. He waited a moment, giving Alex a glare as if expecting a response.
Alex replied, seeing the motion. "Orc tusk?"
Oliver Raven bobbed his head in approval. "Aye." Lifting the knife, he began shredding it at a much more casual pace, making time to educate his student about the extraction. "What
    Sign is it?"

Alex replied in turn, watching Oliver perform the extraction. "Probably Fire."
Oliver Raven continued chopping the tusk, its form slowly becoming more powder-like. "Good. Remember the symbols maybe?"
Alex soured his expression, realising he only vaguely did. "4 Rage.. 4 Strength. All I can recall."
Oliver Raven: "Not quite. 4 Rage, 3 Stength, 3 Vigour, 2 Poison. You'll get there, don't worry." He corrected, then reasurred Alex, setting down the knife. All that remained of the tusk
was now resembling sawdust in texture. "Got a flint?" He asked, stepping briefly aside as he intended for his student to perform the next step on his own.
Alex quickly shuffled through his pockets, until finally he'd fish out the object. "Just light it?" He assured himself, preparing to strike the two together.
Oliver Raven nodded once more. "Go ahead."
Alex did as his teacher asked of him, striking the two together.
[!] The pulverized orc tusk would combust, flames engulfing it until a more ash-like substance remained. At that point, Oliver asked of Alex. "See any of the symbols?"
Alex put away the flint and steel, once again focusing on the now burnt reagent. "I can see Poison.." He remarked, sorting away a small portion of the powder, which he recognized as
    poison.
"I think that's the Vigour.." He muttered loudly once again, partially correctly sorting away a different portion of the powder, though with a fair share of other symbols, as well
    as simply symbol-less ash.

"Not bad for your second year." He said in approval, seeing Alex' performance. "You got the Poison right." He said, moving to clean up the pile of Vigour. "That's all Vigour now. I don't expect you to sort symbols flawlessly after a year." He reassured Alex, once again moving to a different portion, sorting the Strength and Rage into two more piles. "Strength,
    and Rage."
He said, pointing at them in the order he listed them. "See the difference?"
Alex squinted at the two piles. "I do!. I think." He said uncertainly.
"You'll get used to it." Giving Alex a conclusive pat on the back, he stuffed away the symbols into what looked like glass jars. "You did good. I'll show you Aether and Earth next time.''

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

During teaching, I would explain the mistake they made, and work with them to avoid the same mistake again. That is what teaching is about, after all - learning not to make mistakes.
If I heard of them powergaming once the teaching was completed, I'd contact them about it OOCly, tell them what they did wrong, and make them give me an example of the way they'd properly do what they did wrong. Redlines are easy to misread or misunderstand, or sometimes powergaming is simply an honest mistake, for example due to forgetting something. I would inform them that if it were to happen again, they'd be at risk of getting their FA revoked, and either make them apologise to the 'victim', (of powergaming) or apologise in their name. If they were to repeat the same mistake, even after I've told them what they're doing wrong, I'd contact the Story Team about a revoking of their application.

  6. A sorrow sigh escaped the Bastion's stables, following the bird's arrival. Out of the many deaths he had seen, not one felt as close as the one of his cousin.
"Who knew Ravens dropped like flies. . ."
The ensign spoke a simple phrase. To himself, he raised a glass of whatever alcohol he had.

"Hope the Seven Skies treat you well."

  7. Oliver Crowly followed behind his brother, having nearly completed reading the childish fit, that some sad individual had decided to share with others, burst out laughing at Aleksi's comment. Having taken a moment to calm himself down, he chased down Aleksi, only to add, a wide grin still upon his face.

"You know, I would have said something, but I see no need to do so anymore."
